joint family
In India, the land of culture and unity, culture and unity are wellmanifested in the structure of
society, indeed in the smaller unit of a society i.e. family. A family is a set of human beings related
to each other in a non professional manner, giving rise to a concrete cohesion within the family.
Love, care, and affection are the most prominent human values, which are responsible for
maintaining these bonds of relationships withina family. Typically, a nuclear family may be
conceived as a unit consisting of acouple, children, and grandparents, and pets. In India however,
there exists a special kind of family structure that really is quite vivid in the way it manages to

Summary of the books of the Old Testament Books
Leviticus
The genre of this book is law and it was written by Moses, although it is believed that Joshua
reported on his death. The key themes include God s covenant with Israel, instructions on the early
Israelite religion, instructions on the sacrificial system, holiness, cleanliness and the priesthood.

king top rule them.
Proverbs
The genre of this book is wisdom. Written mostly by King Solomon, the book of Proverbs is
filled with short statements of wisdom and ethics. The key themes are the fear of the Lord,
understanding, and seeking wisdom. Proverbs advises against prostitution and countersigning
notes. It councils people to save for the future, work hard, trust in the Lord, be patient, and
accept criticism. There are no major events in this book. It is filled with expressions and phrases
to guide people in their everyday lives. Proverbs teaches us that the fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom . It teaches the young to follow the teachings of their parents and to always
look to the Lord for all things and he will make your paths straight . Overall, Proverbs contains
practical instructions for our lives in the ways of the Lord, and warns us of the pitfalls of straying
from theses basic truths.

Benefits Of The File Sharing Technology
The technology in nineteenth century is referred to the practical arts used to create physical
products everything from wagon to steam engine. But in twentieth century the word was expanded
to include everything involved in satisfying human material wants. In this we can see the concepts
and significance of the technology, how the technology emerged, what is the internal process of
technology, and classification of technology. For this term project I would like to talk about the file
sharingtechnology. There are many advantages of the file sharing technology, when compare to
the past years it provides many services like cloud and internet services that we can use in terms of
our work, and make it easier for the studies.
CONCEPT DEFINITION OF TECHNOLOGY:
Technology is a Greek word where techno means systematic skill needed to make something.
Technology means discussion or knowledge of something. With various definitions technology it
also means a systematic skilled knowledge action. Usually used in industrial process, but it is
applicable to any process of activity. Technology can be defined as the sum of knowledge which
allows things to be done in a better way. Technology is the technical means people use to improve
their surroundings. It is people using knowledge, tools, and systems to make their lives easier and
better. It is the process by which humans modify nature to meet their needs wants.
Out of many technologies I would like to choose File Sharing

Innovation Vs Traditionalism
I am sure that we have all, at one time or another, noticed that almost any discussion concerning the
merits and demerits of art, if it goes on long enough will come to the qualities of innovation and
traditionalism in regards to aesthetic value. As soon as these two qualities are mentioned, there
comes an inevitable forming up of those who favor innovationand deride tradition and those who
favor tradition and deride innovation. Either side usually admits only enough meritto their
opposition, and limitation of their own view, to make themselves seem reasonable and objective:
but the bulk of their effort goes into savaging their opponentsand extolling the ultimately ascendant
nature of their position. I am inclined to take neither... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many people, the most damning denunciation they can make of a work of art is that it is, in
some way, stale, antiquated, or outmoded. They will note how this feature has been borrowed,
how that aspect has been done before, and how the entire work lacks freshness, originality, and
creativeness. These sorts of people are not necessarily wrong for saying such things, but they
are wrong for leaving their criticism at that, for it is simply not enough. What is implied in
many of these people s demands for freshness, originality and so on, though they would never
say it explicitly, is a fascination with novelty. A few, if cornered, might defend a taste for
novelty by saying that something, because it is novel, takes their aesthetic experience beyond
where it had been before, and thereby expands their understanding of art and themselves. There
is a grain of truth in this, but a second explanation seems more likely, and far more damning. If
someone displays a taste for art which is novel, it indicates that art which preceded the novelty
possessed only a passing transient value, and art which now seems novel will also, most likely, be
passing and transient, for its only real attraction to this sort of person is that it is new, and, as we
have seen, this will soon pass. However, many of us are inclined to believe that aesthetic values are
something eternal,

Stereotypes In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Maya Wallace

English 160A
10 March, 2016
Response 4.0 The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a response to the European
depiction of Africans and African culture. Today, prejudice of cultures, or groups of people, is
displayed in the media on a daily basis. There has been efforts in the past several years to integrate
culture and diversity in many classrooms across the nation to generate awareness and acceptance.
By acknowledging the history of people and cultures from the past in literature readers are able to
submerge themselves to several engaging perspectives that trigger reconsideration of stereotypes.
Achebe s novel corrects European formed essentialism and offers readers an Afrocentric
perspective.
The Igbo society has laws in place that govern the people s actions. Murder and acts of violence
do not go unpunished. When a woman from Umuofia is killed in the market at Mbaino, the
people of Mbaino must make retribution. When Okonkwo beats his wife during the Week of
Peace, he must make sacrifices to the gods to atone for his wrongdoing. The Umuofia community
also rituals, similar to today s Supreme Court, to settle legal and personal disputes. Hospitality is
also highly valued by the Igbo people. In the novel, we learn ... Show more content on

The Igbo culture has been changing over time. Even at the time of the novel, the Igbo culture is
different than in its former days. For example, when Okonkwo beats his wife during the Week of
Peace, his punishment consists of offering a goat, a hen, some cloth, and a hundred cowries to Ani.
However, this has not always been the punishment. Ofbuefi Ezeudu, the oldest man of the village,
commented that in his father s day, the offender was dragged on the ground through the village
until he died (31). This establishes that old customs and traditions have already begun to

Language. Iconoclastic, outrageous as hell, leveled with humor. Yankees do it, but Southerners
do it more. It s the grotesque. (Bailey 1) Later she was asked who one of her role models was and
she stated that Flannery O Connor was one she could relate to. One of O Connor s stronger works
was Good Country People which was published in 1955.

Spanking Is Ineffective
Most parents subconsciously use the same disciplinary actions that were used on them growing up.
There is a ton of variety concerning ways of disciplining your children. These include, but aren t
limited to; spanking, creating consequences, withholding privileges, and time outs. However,
experts don t recommend using spankingas a disciplinary measure, as it causes anger, antagonism,
amps up aggression, and makes the child feel devalued, as well as being ineffective in the long run.
Spanking is also known to cause antisocial behavior. It is especially ineffective with toddlers and
babies because they are unable to make the connection between their bad behavior and physical
punishment.
Instead of spanking, time outs are a highly effective

In 2000 the housing unit density for all of Mercer County was just over 74 houses per square
mile. The city of Sharon has the highest housing density in the entire county with almost 1,997
unites per square mile. Considering this ratio there are more apartments and people renting
rather than owning their own homes to save space. The Northern Tier Area has the lowest
density with just 22 houses per square mile so there are no apartments just houses (Housing pg.
41 42). There are a total of 49,859 housing units in Mercer County and 93.7% are occupied.
Roughly one third of Mercer s housing units were constructed in 1939 or earlier. Compared to
other counties this number is very high. 99% of the county s occupied housing units have
complete plumbing facilities and complete kitchen facilities. This is great because it makes the
citizens happy and content with their home. The predominant housing unit design is the single
family detached home with around 75% of owned houses. This is important because if people are
owning their own homes rather than renting they are more likely to stay in the community
(Housing pg. 46). 16% of owned houses are cost burdened, which isn t that bad of a number,
however, it can be lower. 34% of renter occupied homes are cost burdened. Compared to the state
it is slightly less, which is a plus. The average... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This would most likely promote growth because the current services reach their full capacity.

The Initiation Of 3 D Printing
Initiation of 3 D printing took place in end 1980s. Fundamentals of 3 D printing were laid by
Japanese Professor. Although he was not able to contribute 100% with his idea, but later on, Mr.
Charles Huck carried on with this idea and finally came up with a machine that can create
prototypes. Later he also co founded a 3 D manufacturing company that is right now one of the
largest 3 D company in the world and contributes a lot to modern era problems. After this initiative,
progress on additive manufacturingprocess or 3 D printing got started, and since then, it became one
of the most important sector of science, specifically engineering, as it have produced a lot of useful
results and have also simplified some lengthy tasks, transforming them into efficient, accurate and
cost effective activity.
As discussed in introduction about types of 3 D printers and variety of industries where they can
be used, explanations regarding these aspects are as follows:
i.STEREO LITHOGRAPHY (SLA) ii. FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING iii. SELECTIVE
LASER SINTERING (SLS) iv. MULTI JET MODELLING (MJM)
v.VFLASH PRINTER vi. FUSED FILAMENT FABRICATION (FFF) OR FUSED DEPOSTION
MODELLING (FDM)
Fundamentals of all types of printers stated above are same. As prototypes are printed layer by
layer, so certain dimensions are required by printers to print that part. As all designing activities are
performed on computer and computers are used to directly send commands to printers, defining
actual structure of

Life Is The Way Life
Life is something that requires a lot of physical and mental exertion. Some are sufficiently lucky
to have everything arranged for them. For example, some are naturally introduced to cash; some
run over favorable luck yet most buckle down from the begin to get some place on the planet. It
simply all relies on upon how you were brought into this world. For a few individuals, life is
brimming with anxiety and hardships. That is the way life was for somebody dear to me Kimberly
Domonique. She had it troublesome from the beginning however, she picked not to give life a
chance to get her down. At the point when life gave her lemons, she made lemonade.
Kimberly is from the island of Haiti, she moved to the states at the age of ten years old. She lived
in Queens, New York with her step mother, she was enrolled in public school shortly after her
arrival. Going to school in America was difficult for her because she did not know how to speak
nor understand the English language. She told me that what was also hard for her was
developing friendships because there was no one like her that had her background. She moved out
of Queens because of the violence that was occurring between black Americans and foreigners.
The problem was that the foreigners used their methods of learning from their country and used it
to their advantage because education was not free for them like it is here in the states. So this
allowed them to get good grades and advance well, which made the black

Tuba Performance Review Essay
What intrigues me the most about the tuba in this performance is that it is possible to play the
lower notes very loudly. Normally, playing lower pitches in the tuba requires slow buzzing and a
lot of air. Towards the end, the soloist belted out the incredibly low notes. Additionally, throughout
the performance, I felt a range of emotions from feelinghappy to very anxious. The short staccato
notes makes me feel cheerful but towards the end, the low pitched long notes makes me feel
anxious and worried. Lastly, the short staccato notes that plays in a fast tempo intrigues me the
most. Personally, it is a challenge for me to play shorter notes at a fast tempo therefore I am
mesmerized that it is attainable.

the large range. The piece contains many articulations, thirty second notes, slurs and ties. In

When it comes to kicking a soccer ball it depends on the force and distance of the kick. A field goal
kick will be different from a pass in a combination play. Mental preparation has to be used to be
ready for the kick. When kicking a field goal, laces kick will be used (toe down, power in knee
flexion). A successful kickis usually defined in the velocity of the ball (which needs greater swing
limb/ foot speed), or the accuracy of direction of kick, which relies on the position of the plant

Timpani In Haydn s Music Essay
Timpani in Haydn s Music Franz Joseph Haydn, born March 31, 1732, is one of the most
influential classical composers. Being known as the Father of Symphony, is an important reason
to look at his work. Focusing closely on his use of timpani in two of his major pieces, Symphony
103 and Missa in tempore belli, can give us an in depth look on his development with the use of
timpani. By first starting at looking at his lifetime, then delving into both pieces, next comparing
and contrasting the two pieces, and finally, briefly going over other pieces influenced by the use of
timpani will give us a better understanding. Franz Joseph Haydn, better known as Joseph Haydn,
was born in Austria in 1732. When Haydn was eight years old, he became a choirboy in Vienna.
After his voice had matured, he became a teenage freelance musician. After some time had passed, a
noble family in Vienna, the EsterhГЎzy s, hired him to composed for them. From 1761 until about
1790 he worked for the EsterhГЎzy family composing instrumental works and opera s for their
summer palace performances. When Haydn had finished working for the EsterhГЎzy family, he
was well known throughout Europe and considered by some as the greatest living composer at that
time. Haydn s Symphony103, also known as the Drumroll Symphony, is his second to last... Show

Charles Manson s Influence On Society
In almost all lists of famous serial killers, probably the most mentioned among them all is Charles
Manson. With more than 35 documented killings and a cult of disciple murderers, Manson has
become the living embodiment that the devil walks on earth. But what has made this troubled
youth into one of America s feared monsters?
Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934. Named Charles Milles Maddox, he was born
and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, to a teenage mom, Kathleen Maddox. His alcoholic and prostitute
mother soon married William Manson but the marriage was short lived. His mother did not want
anything to do with the boy and this pushed him to live on the streets and fend for himself. Pretty
soon, Charles turned to petty crime to survive. By the time he was in his late teens, Charles was
introduced to a life in prison.
Charles met a girl in 1955 whom he married and brought with him to California. There, she
became pregnant and Charles was back into his life of petty crimes leading him to another time in
prison in 1956. The young wife eventually left him after a year. After being released, Charles
turned to other crimes such as pimping, using stolen checks and conning a woman of her money.
While on probation, he met a prostitute Candy Stevens, who bore him a second child. By 1960, he
was arrested for his crimes and was sent to a Washington penitentiary.
In prison, troubles never escaped Charles. He once raped a fellow male inmate and he was

President Lyndon. B Johnson and the Vietnam War Essay
The conflict in Vietnam for the United States started when President Dwight D. Eisenhower went
along with the domino theory and sent in military advisors in South Vietnam to stop the communist
movement from taking place in South Vietnam. The Vietnam conflict was between the communist
s and the United States. North Vietnam was led by Ho Chi Minh, and Ho Chi Minh led the Viet
Cong, a guerilla group to help spread communism. The United States were supporters of the South
Vietnam because they wanted them to maintain their government rather than falling to the domino
theory of communism. After Eisenhower s term ended John F. Kennedy became president and took

What made this even more difficult was that he had not given much attention to Vietnam or to
foreign affairs in general (Moise 30). For a nation like the United States in need of a decision on the
fly, this was very troubling. Earlier President Johnson felt that Harry Truman, in 1950, had erred by
going into the Korean War without getting firm commitment of support from the congress (Moise
226). In other words it appeared to be that Johnson would be careful about getting involved in a
conflict like Vietnam. Being careful to say the least was not the case at all. There was not much
serious thought in escalating the Vietnam War until the Tonkin Gulf incident occurred. In the Gulf
of Tonkin it was reported that two American destroyers had been attacked by North Vietnamese PT
boats on August 4, 1964, (Friedman 293). Shortly after these incidents, Johnson immediately
escalated the war by ordering airstrikes on North Vietnam (Friedman 293). These events made it so
Johnson could raise United States involvement in Vietnam without congressional backing on his
decisions. Increasing involvement in the war was appealing though because after the Tonkin Gulf
incident support of military involvement in North Vietnam raised from thirty one percent approvals
to fifty percent approval (Moise 226). Although approval of the amount in favor immediately after
the Gulf of Tonkin incident rose, it was a mistake on Johnson s part... assuming that the

In the late 1600s, the infamous Salem Witch Trials occurred. The Salem Witch Trials were a series

Hawthorne shows that the Puritans are hypocrites by showing that members of the Puritan
community lie about their beliefs. Young Goodman Brownlives with his wife, Faith, who urges
him not to travel into the forest, but Young Goodman Brown chooses to ignore Faith s advice
and continue into the forest. In the woods, Brown meets with a strange traveler who he later

Then, he observes a witch meeting in which he is shocked to see Goody Cloyse, Faith, and other

experience in the forest was a dream or reality. He loses all hope in the goodness of man and

The Brain And Its Effects On Human Brain
The brain has four main structures; the Cerebrum, Cerebellum, Limbic System, and the Brain
Stem. The Cerebrum, also known as the Cerebral Cortex, is the largest part of the human brain. It
is divided into four parts that are called lobes : there s the frontal lobe which is linked with
reasoning, planning, parts of speech, emotions, and problem solving the parietal lobe which is
linked to movement, orientation, and recognitions the occipital lobe which is linked to visual
processing like object and spatial recognition, and the fourth one which is the temporal lobe that is
linked to the perception and recognition of memory, speech, and sounds. The Cerebellum, also
known as the little brain, is linked to coordination, movement, posture, and balance. The limbic
system usually referred to as the emotional brain is located inside the cerebrumand it is tied onto
our emotions and more importantly, our survival mode. Lastly, there is the brain stem that is in
charge of basic life functions like breathings, our heart beating, and blood pressure. All of these
four brain functions have key important roles on our everyday lives, but is there anything that can
affect them? The brain happens to actually be affected by many things, either from accidents, or
emotional pain that leads to depression, the brain grows differently depending on its external
stimuli, and a great example of this would be music.
Music activates many parts of our brain that not only affect our movement,

School Uniform Policy
Every year there is a new debate going on in the public schools about whether or not school

parents that argue that it takes away a child s freedom of expression, independence, free spirit and

To this day, all schools require uniforms in the United Kingdom. In the U.K. all school members
have respect for others, the schools and themselves. The schools are very strict as well, they make
the students quietly walk the halls (like a library), and then when they get to their classroom they
have to stand in the hallway until they are invited into the classroom, then they have to stand by
their desk or table, until they are welcomed to sit. All the uniforms are pretty basic; girls get skirts,
jumpers, slacks, and a shirt, shoes (most of the time black) and stockings. Boys get slacks, collared
shirt, tie and sweater.
They wear the sweater until high school, then they get a blazer (Walmsey, A). In the United States
our schools are more lenient on the uniform policy, than the in the U.K., they have an opt out
program. They are required by law to have an opt out program, it maybe against the child s
religion, or as something the parents just do not believe in. which can cause bullying because
kids are cruel to each other if there is any kind of differences? The schools in the U. S. also allow
different kinds of backpacks and shoes, so there are always things

Ancient Egypt and Beauty Accessories
English Project on Ancient Egypt
Layana: Makeup;
Ancient egyptians wore makeup. They regarded beauty as a sign of holiness. Both men and
women in Egypt wore makeup, and even the statues of God wore makeup. Cleanliness and
appearance of people, were highly regarded. Architects would even find tiny clay pallets in some
tombs, and yes beauty was really important to the Ancient Egyptians, but makeup was a different
story. Some of their makeup would be a sign of helping them with the elements, for example:
repelling insects, or when the sun s rays hit their eyes, the makeup would help them not get
affected by the sun. Also, makeup may be served as a routine to honor their god/goddesses. The
Ancient Egyptians also created black eye makeup, and they used it with galena and kohl. What
galena is, is that it is a bluish gray color, with natural minerals, and kohl is a mix between galena
and soot. They also created green eye makeup using malachite. Malachite is a bright green
mineral, which is made by copper hydroxyl carbonate. The Ancient Egyptians had many reasons
to wear makeup. They would wear eye makeup to define the eye, and to give the eye a more cat
like look. It was also a good way to prevent diseases, or any bad minerals to get into your eyes.
Ancient Egyptians also wore lip gloss, or nail polish but wore them only on special occasions. As
most people know, Ancient Egypthad social classes, and they mostly wear their clothes, or have

Is Frieza A Better Villain
A villain is defined as a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or
crime. To determine who the better villain is; Frieza, an intergalactic villain known for taking over
planets with his followers and being one of the strongest beings in the universe or The Joker,
Batman s arch nemesis known for causing chaos throughout Gotham and having an ability to bring
the worst out of people, I must first decide what makes an effective villain.
To decide who the better villain is they must be compared to the criterion of what makes a good

As the worlds population increases, carbon emissions and waste skyrocket, shooting the global

The Pros And Cons Of Traditional Evangelistic Meetings
evangelistic efforts are usually conducted by a charismatic preacher who carries the burden of
presenting truth, pretty much by himself. Usually, there are no small groups and no meaningful
interface between church members and the public who come to these large meetings. Almost every
year now, there are evangelistic efforts that are spread around the world by satellite down links.
Thousands of churches can receive the evangelistic message simultaneously. This has resulted in
tens of thousands of baptism. This method of evangelism fails to create friendships between church
members and the public who attend these meetings.
In traditional evangelistic efforts, if local church members are involved, they are usually relegated

Health evangelism programs featuring small group interactions between the public and church
members creates one on one relationships and sustains them. Solid, lasting friendships are formed.
Baptisms resulting from health evangelism programs where friendships are made, are much more
likely to stay in the church than baptisms resulting from traditional evangelistic activities.
Health evangelism programs will prepare community people to be exposed to more traditional
evangelistic meetings at some subsequent time. Health evangelism and traditional evangelistic
meetings should not be piggy backed one on the other but each should be conducted often
enough that those who are ready for indoctrination can avail themselves of a traditional
evangelistic crusade. What I have found works best is for health evangelism programs to be
offered on a regular, continuing basis on one track and traditional evangelistic efforts at regular
intervals on another track. The purpose of each track is clear. The health evangelism track is
health oriented but creates firm friendships with church members and introduces a person to God
as the agent of behavior change in the daily life. The traditional evangelistic crusade track is for
the purpose of broadening the spiritual understanding and experience of an individual along
doctrinal lines. This prepares a person for full membership in the church. More about these parallel
tracks in a later

Cut of Steak People believe that extroverts and introverts are like a cut of steak. People like to
believe that the steak they ordered is very clean and clearly cut; people also consider introverts
and extroverts to have clean cut attributes. Like many, people will believe that introverts do not
enjoy people and only appreciate time with themselves. Also, many people will place extroverts in
a group of loud mouths, people who just want to have an enjoyable time and may not be the most
astute. Although people believe that the qualities of introverts and extroverts are clear cut, there is
more to introverts and extroverts than may meet the eye. After conducting research on introverts

Evaluation Of A Patient Observation
Critical assignment
Introduction
In January 2015 a patient observation was conducted on an inner city psychiatric male admission
ward commencing at 10.30 am and concluding at 11.30am. The observation was carried out by the
ward manager and the patient advice liaison service (PALS) manager.
The managers from the position of observer were critically analyzing differences of service
provision between a service and patient s perspective. The ward manager by reviewing the findings
will make recommendations for the service which builds on the positives and address any issues
which impact upon the patient care provided.
The staffing levels were fully established with the three qualified nurses, three health care support
workers, and one occupational therapist.

Human affect the construction sector
The procedure of construction industry is more complicate and always takes longer time than

Comparing Women Of Athens And Sparta
The position and roles of women in society have generally improved over time. These factors,
however, differ from region to region because different properties determine them. They include
laws, cultures, and community set up. The same elements described the position and roles of
women in ancient Greece. The two major cities with contrasting perceptions of women were
Athens and Spartan. These areas had different cultures and set ups. Athens was a developed city at
the time and consisted of a number of scholars ranging from philosophers to artists. Spartan, on the
other hand, had a military like lifestyle and not so many scholars. These differences shaped the
roles of women in different aspects of the two communities. The difference in positions led several
philosophers and writers to put down texts on this subject. This essay refers to these texts to
compare the women of Athens and Spartaand show the general inequality they experienced.
Women in Athens had close to zero rights. They lived in a society that was dominated by men
who preferred to isolate them. Women could not participate in public and civic matters especially
politics. Citizens were the only ones that could get involved in civic issues. At the time, only men
could be citizens (O Pry 8). However, the Royal and a few freeborn women could make a
contribution to political issues, a fact that displeased most men. Aristotle writes in On a Good Wife
that a woman should not bother with public issues. He goes on to

Justice And Moderation In Plato s Republic
In Plato s Republic, justice is often characterized as a just act resulting in a just outcome.
Moderation is factored into this as well. Moderation allows for not just a being, but for a whole city
to continue to function justly. The cardinal virtues that enable justice can also be the same for
moderation. Justiceand injustice are compared when running a city, but only the just city will cause
perfect serenity between all three classes of people. Justice and moderation are distinctly similar but
also exquisitely different. Platodistinctly outlines the makings for his just city. The blueprints left
behind by Plato are crucial to understanding where justice and moderation factor in to cause a just
city to function justly. Glaucon and Adeimantus debate with Socrates over the capabilities of a just
and unjust lifestyle. Glaucon raises the issue of a just man and an unjust man being given the

than that. Checking treatment of workers here was going to be a huge task. The factory was well
guarded and looked like any ordinary factory from the outside, but at that time we didn t know
what harsh realities workers were facing inside the factory.
We needed to talk to the workers on home turf, away from the security men surrounding the

The Literary Impact Of George Orwell . George Orwell, Born
The Literary Impact of George Orwell
George Orwell, born as Eric Arthur Blair, was a British journalist and author. His works were
compelling, especially, when it comes to his strong political beliefs. He is considered one of the
most widely admired English language essayists of the twentieth century. As Elkins points out, he
is best known for the two novels that were written toward the end of his life: the anti utopian
political allegory Animal Farm and the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty Four (New World
Encyclopedia). With the publication of these two novels, Orwell became one of the most important
science fiction writers of modern time (Elkins). George Orwell, due to his early life experiences,
inspired millions to challenge and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He went on to tell of the miseries of those years in his posthumously published autobiographical
essay Such, Such Were the Joys in 1953 (Encyclopedia Britannica). Orwell wrote in his essay,
Class distinctions obsessed the children and the school authorities as well, and became an excuse
for a variety of injustices and daily humiliations. Those at the top of the hierarchy had the power to
dominate, and to impose their will upon those at the bottom. (Elkins).
In spite of his obvious intelligence and offers of scholarships, Orwell chose not to continue his
education at a university. Instead, he joined the Indian Imperial Police in Burma. He felt that he
was being called to follow in the footsteps of many family members. For several years, he was
viewed as an impeccable community servant. He accepted a great deal of responsibility for
someone of such a young age. The desire to become a writer continued to weigh heavily on his
heart, and he left his job as a police officer after just five years. He had the support of his fiance
Eileen, and they later married in 1936.
According to Encyclopedia Britannica, it was at this time that Orwell began to search for
repentance for the guilt that he felt when he finally realized just how poorly the Burmese were
treated by Britain. He felt that the barriers of race and caste had prevented his mingling with the
Burmese, and he thought that he could expiate some of his guilt by immersing himself in the life of

HIstory of Gold Gloves
Defense is the most beautiful aspect of baseball. Defense is the world of Gold Glove award
winners. Infield and outfield wizards are voted each year as the best at their position. Imagine
baseball s defensive game 100 years ago.
Players from the olden times played the game barehanded. The baseball didn t travel as fast or as
far as today s baseball, but they were just as hard. Fielders had broken fingers and was getting
use to wearing little gloves, small enough to fit in a pocket. Catchers with no teeth just started
wearing a mask and chest protectors. Shin guards was introduced in 1908. Baseball in the old
days did not have cork or rubber centers. Pitcher began to throw overhand and fast. With help of

But a good all around pitcher could be a good infielder. Pitchers must have sneaky pick off moves,
complete his pitch in a balanced position and ready to field. Many pitchers has had a career ruined
by taking shots to the body. Dizzy Dean had his career end when a line drive hit his ankle. Herb
score career came to an end after a line drive to the face. Not all great fielding pitchers are safe.
There are a lot of all time great gold glove catchers. Johnny Bench won the gold glove 10 years in
a row. He changed the position in two ways. He introduced the big pocket hinged mitt and catching
the ball one handed. Catchers skills involve more than handling fastballs or curves in the dirt. They
must have quick feet and a strong arm. Catchers must also have grit and stamina. Physically catcher
is the most grueling position in baseball.
Next to the catcher, first baseman participates in more plays per game. This means that the
success of the infield depends on the first baseman skills. A good first baseman makes the whole
team look good. George Sisler was a great first baseman in the pre modern era. Many of today s
first baseman are Hall of Fame material. Keith Hernandez was an superior first baseman who has

An Unquiet Mind By Kay Redfield Jamison
This Quicksilver Illness: Moods, Stigma, and Creativity
A review of An Unquiet Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison
Kay Jamison is one of the faces of manic depression (or in more sterile terms, bipolar disorder).
She is currently the face of one of the renowned researchers of manic depression and topics relating
to the disease, ranging from suicide to creativity. She is a tenured professor of Psychiatry at Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine, author of a best selling memoir and one of the standard medical texts
on the subject. She has also been the face of madness and despair, a mercurial young woman whose
life became controlled by moods, a sufferer of this quicksilver illness. Her memoir An Unquiet
Mind is an honest and moving account ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to consider a life like Kay Jamison s when thinking about the questions of this
course: does brain equal behavior? Hers was a life that revolved around moods that controlled her
behavior and how she functioned in the world around her. The moods were the result of an illness
that affects many individuals (1). If the brain is indeed the cause of the sickness of moods, then
can it be argued that moods are created biologically? As mental illnesses, like manicdepression, are
further understood, society is moving intellectually away from seeing them as anything other than
organic. Scientific research of mental illness receives more funding now than it ever has (2).
Jamison s story points to this yet again. For her, moods are wrapped up in biology, her genetics,
images of her brain from an MRI or PET scan.
I find the idea of leading a life of moods to be intriguing, how the ups and downs that one goes
through can spin so far out of control, at the mercy of a witches brew of neurotransmitters.
Jamison has felt extremes that most of the population will never reach: euphoric, albeit manic,
highs to be followed by black, pit of despair, lows. These responses are part of her self. She, in
fact, would not trade her illness for a smoother ride: I have seen the breadth and depth and width
of my mind and heart and seen how frail they both are, and how ultimately unknowable they both
are. If moods are a part of behavior as an integral

Language Used In Walden
The excerpt from Walden, by Henry D. Thoreau uses language use to portray the central message
that life is to be lived to its full potential and that it is important to be one with the world and with
nature. The author, through his choice of words and phrases, shows how he wishes to live a
simple life and one that receives the full benefits that life has to give. He wishes to not waste
away his life to only then look back on it and see that he did not get all that he could ve out of it.
The author s use of language highly portrays the central message of living, getting the most out of
life, and being one with the world. He says, ... I went to the woods because I wished to live

He does not want to come to the realization at the end of his life that he had not lived the way he
should ve. He wants to only give off the main ideas and essential things of life so that he can
then see what the world has to offer him. Another quote from the excerpt shows how the author s
use of words is a major impact in how the main idea is portrayed. Let us spend one day as
deliberately as Nature, and not be thrown off the track by every nutshell and mosquito s wing
that falls on the rails. The author is emphasizing the importance of being one with the world and
opening up to all the world and nature has to offer. He wants to learn from nature and live as
simply as nature does. His emphasis is also on being so focused on living as nature does as to
not be thrown off of this focus by small, trivial things. Another use of the author s words plays a
significant role in portraying the idea of life and how it should be lived. Time is but the stream I
go a fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it

The Pros And Cons Of Outsourcing
Honestly, what is outsourcing and why do we as a business even need this type of idea to take
place today? In order to understand outsourcing, we first have to define what outsourcing is.
Outsourcing can be defined as using an outside company to provide service rather than hiring in
house workers. Now we have to determine why businesses need outsourcing. Typically businesses
perform their own tasks themselves, but nowadays we find outsourcing becoming a lot more
common. Outsourcing can be as simple as hiring another to do one job or as complex as putting
businessin abroad countries. So why do business even need outsourcing if they can do the jobs
themselves one might ask. The answers it s cheaper and more efficient. It is simple it costs less
to bring in these outside companies or workers to complete a task for much cheaper then the
company would have to pay it s in house workers. Another reason why outsourcing has also
become so popular a business might not be able to do a certain task it s buyer wants. This is
where outsourcing can play a factor as well. No business is completely perfect assistance and
partnerships are key to being a successful company. Outsourcing allows companies to go out get the
help they desire, then continue to perform in the manner in which they have been before.... Show

If the wages for low class workers is beginning to increase, the decrease in wages for more skilled
workers either foreign or domestic in the same field begin to suffer. Wageseparation can take place
in resulting because of outsourcing, creating an chaos that could end up leading to further
problems. U.S. companies produce their products overseas in order to take advantage of lower
labor costs i.e., comparative advantage. But that means U.S. consumers get cheaper prices. You ll

Overdependence on Computers
Technological advancements have created new opportunities for individuals, organizations and
societies. The contemporary society has taken the use of the computer hardware and software so
seriously that organizations that have not embraced the platform are considered irrelevant in the
highly busy and competitive contemporary business environment. Opportunities as well as
challenges have been created to organizations and individuals by the advances of the new
technologies creating new and advanced computer hardware and software. With these advances,

Computers are considered efficient, accurate and effective in calculations and analysis of
information that could take a long time to compute with the use of the traditional manual systems.
More than ever before, people are obsessed with the desire to find comfort and convenient and short
cuts are considered as the best options to perform calculations and tasks involving computations and
analysis. Since the use of computers guarantees this comfort and convenience, people are not shy to
exploit them and make the most of the prevailing opportunities provided by the computers.
The field of communication seems to be the most affected with regards to the use of the new
information and communication technologies and the apparent excessive dependence on
technology. There has been a significant revolution in the manner in which human communication
is handled. The conventional methods of sending messages have been replaced by the use of
portable computer devices. Mobile phones have become cheaper and even more advanced with
possibilities never imagined before. The users of these devices have become so accustomed and
even addicted to them so much that life seems unbearable if they happen to lose the devices.
Social media platforms have come up and people now share ideas real time with the use of these
avenues. Communication across the globe has depended greatly on the

The Glass Palace By Amitav Ghosh
The Glass Palace
Amitav Ghosh explores different storytelling forms and complicates the picture of pre and
postcolonial South Asian identity in his fourth novel The Glass Palace1. His ambitious epic tells
the stories of a cast of characters, royal working clogs, and bourgeois Indians, Bengalis, and
Burmese as they grapple with their sense of place and self while violent historical events reshape
twentieth century Burma and India2 .
Amitav Ghosh s The Glass Palace is an evocation of the recent past of the glorious culture and
eventual of Burma along with the gradual erosion of its social structure as well as economic self
sufficiency. The novel cuts across three generations of Indians who make Burma their home and
leaves it under the onslaught of Japanese invasion. It is a curious fact that the past or the
prospects of the Burma never occupied the attention of the world, not because of its economic
deprivation or primitive mode of living, but due to its geographical obscurity. The policy of
Britain is nothing short of looting by forcing the king into exile and taking charge of the country.

The, Liberals And The Neo Orthodox
Throughout the Church history, details in which to interpret Scripture and the place of it, has
been debated among major groups for centuries. Three major groups that all read and interpret
scripture to a different standard are the Evangelicals, Liberals and the Neo Orthodox. Each group
holds the Scriptures sacred in their own way, but not everyone agrees to the others use. The first
group was the Liberals. The Liberals were by far the most unique of these three groups because
were prepared to disregard standard traditions to get to a more contemporary way of practicing their
faith. One way they did this was in the way they looked at scripture. When reading Scripture, they
did not see it as inspired in the same way that other groups did. Typically, across denominations,
most everyone views scripture with the most authority because it is God s Word and they believe
that the text is directly from God s mouth, but the Liberals didn t see it that way. They believed that
Christianitywas meant to change as time progressed. For example, they believed many of the
statements that are made throughout the Bible, both New and Old Testament, were not meant to be
the standard in which Christians were to be held at today because times have changed and
changes in beliefs are to be made as society and culture changes. The next group was the
Evangelicals. Evangelicals were a group that was predominantly popular in England. Evangelicals
are by far the most traditional, but not in way

Confidelity In King Lear Essay
The depravation of the characters morality, as a consequence of their hamartia that lusts for the
inordinate love, entice them to commit immoral acts and lead to their ineluctable condemnation.
Goneril, the eldest daughter of King Lear, portrays the influence of lust on morality through her
increasing malevolence. Shakespeare depicts her character with a strong thirst for power yet still
maintains some restrains in her actions before she becomes intrigued by the congeniality between
Edmund and herself. After which, she develops into a monster that destroys anything, anyone
obstructing her way as she surrenders to her lust for Edmund. As Edgar exposes the letter that

Furthermore, the symbolic use of goatish establishes the lecherous nature of man that tempts
Gloucester to commit adultery. The mythological allusion with the reference to the constellations
symbolizes the lascivious, demonic nature, which dictates the superstitious belief that an
illegitimate son born outside of marriage, like Edmund, is ineluctably evil in nature. Despite
Gloucester s blame on the nature, his sin brings disturbance to the order of the universe with the
birth of his bastard son, which results in his nemesis as the retribution of his indulgence in lust.
Shakespeare s use of expletive, fut , establishes Edmund s despise towards his father, who brings
him to this world due to his failure to resist the temptation, yet labels him illegitimate for his own
flaws. Hence, Shakespeare establishes that Gloucester s hamartia is the weakness in resisting
temptation and his ignorance that fails to recognize the true vileness under the superficial allure in
lust, foreshadowing his inevitable nemesis due to the product of his sin,

Autism And Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Essay
In today s world, it is easy to label people based on what society defines as normal. Society
dictates how we view people on a daily basis and this forces people to view things from a singular
perspective. Unfortunately, this single point of view may lead to discrimination against people
who are different. For example, those with disabilities and other diagnoses are neglected,
overlooked, or judged by those who are influenced by that singular perspective. In specific, Autism
which is referred to as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, is something that the public has heard before but
they do not fully understand or are unaware about its true definition. According to the Centers for
Disease Control s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM), approximately 1 in
68 children have been identified with Autism SpectrumDisorder (ASD) (CDC, 2016). This
increased prevalence is why it is important to continue educating the public about those living with
Autism as well as critical for social awareness and for the overall health of the community.
Tipton and Blacher (2014) investigated how those in a college community observed the
characteristics and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Participants were undergraduate
students, graduate students, faculty and staff at a major university in the Southwestern United
States and were invited to participate in a survey via email. The email was sent to the entire college
community, which contained a link to SurveyMonkey. The

However there is lack of empirical studies that explain the relationship between the destination
personality and destination image (Hosany et al., 2007). Crask and Henry (1990 cited in Hosany et

between the destinations is very important in today s growing competition and destinations
substitutability. Aaker (1997 cited in Ekinci and Hosany 2006) states that destination personality
uses human characteristics to describe destinations, such as Europe is traditional and
sophisticated; London is open minded, vibrant and creative and Paris is romantic. These
characteristics become values that connect consumer with the destination in a unique way, create
an emotional relationship (Baker and Cameron, 2007), some of the most well known are: I love
New York, Incredible India, 100% Pure New Zealand or Amsterdam capital of inspiration. Pike
(2004 cited in Baker and Cameron, 2007) proposes that this process of creating emotional
relationship is through the development of a unique image. According to Crompton (1979) image
is a concept consisting of the sum of beliefs, ideas and impressions that a tourist hold of a

But in twentieth century the word was expanded to include everything involved in satisfying human material wants. • 6. Innovation Vs Traditionalism I am sure that we have all, at one time or another, noticed that almost any discussion concerning the merits and demerits of art, if it goes on long enough will come to the qualities of innovation and traditionalism in regards to aesthetic value. As soon as these two qualities are mentioned, there comes an inevitable forming up of those who favor innovationand deride tradition and those who favor tradition and deride innovation. Either side usually admits only enough meritto their opposition, and limitation of their own view, to make themselves seem reasonable and objective: but the bulk of their effort goes into savaging their opponentsand extolling the ultimately ascendant nature of their position. I am inclined to take neither... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many people, the most damning denunciation they can make of a work of art is that it is, in some way, stale, antiquated, or outmoded. They will note how this feature has been borrowed, how that aspect has been done before, and how the entire work lacks freshness, originality, and creativeness. These sorts of people are not necessarily wrong for saying such things, but they are wrong for leaving their criticism at that, for it is simply not enough. What is implied in many of these people s demands for freshness, originality and so on, though they would never say it explicitly, is a fascination with novelty. A few, if cornered, might defend a taste for novelty by saying that something, because it is novel, takes their aesthetic experience beyond where it had been before, and thereby expands their understanding of art and themselves. There is a grain of truth in this, but a second explanation seems more likely, and far more damning. If someone displays a taste for art which is novel, it indicates that art which preceded the novelty possessed only a passing transient value, and art which now seems novel will also, most likely, be passing and transient, for its only real attraction to this sort of person is that it is new, and, as we have seen, this will soon pass. However, many of us are inclined to believe that aesthetic values are something eternal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Stereotypes In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Maya Wallace Professor Washburn English 160A 10 March, 2016 Response 4.0 The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a response to the European depiction of Africans and African culture. Today, prejudice of cultures, or groups of people, is displayed in the media on a daily basis. There has been efforts in the past several years to integrate culture and diversity in many classrooms across the nation to generate awareness and acceptance. By acknowledging the history of people and cultures from the past in literature readers are able to submerge themselves to several engaging perspectives that trigger reconsideration of stereotypes. Achebe s novel corrects European formed essentialism and offers readers an Afrocentric perspective. The Igbo society has laws in place that govern the people s actions. Murder and acts of violence do not go unpunished. When a woman from Umuofia is killed in the market at Mbaino, the people of Mbaino must make retribution. When Okonkwo beats his wife during the Week of Peace, he must make sacrifices to the gods to atone for his wrongdoing. The Umuofia community also rituals, similar to today s Supreme Court, to settle legal and personal disputes. Hospitality is also highly valued by the Igbo people. In the novel, we learn ... For example, when Okonkwo beats his wife during the Week of Peace, his punishment consists of offering a goat, a hen, some cloth, and a hundred cowries to Ani. However, this has not always been the punishment. Ofbuefi Ezeudu, the oldest man of the village, commented that in his father s day, the offender was dragged on the ground through the village until he died (31). There is a ton of variety concerning ways of disciplining your children. These include, but aren t limited to; spanking, creating consequences, withholding privileges, and time outs. However, experts don t recommend using spankingas a disciplinary measure, as it causes anger, antagonism, amps up aggression, and makes the child feel devalued, as well as being ineffective in the long run. The city of Sharon has the highest housing density in the entire county with almost 1,997 unites per square mile. Considering this ratio there are more apartments and people renting rather than owning their own homes to save space. The Northern Tier Area has the lowest density with just 22 houses per square mile so there are no apartments just houses (Housing pg. 41 42). There are a total of 49,859 housing units in Mercer County and 93.7% are occupied. Roughly one third of Mercer s housing units were constructed in 1939 or earlier. Compared to other counties this number is very high. 99% of the county s occupied housing units have complete plumbing facilities and complete kitchen facilities. This is great because it makes the citizens happy and content with their home. The predominant housing unit design is the single family detached home with around 75% of owned houses. This is important because if people are owning their own homes rather than renting they are more likely to stay in the community (Housing pg. 46). 16% of owned houses are cost burdened, which isn t that bad of a number, however, it can be lower. 34% of renter occupied homes are cost burdened. Although he was not able to contribute 100% with his idea, but later on, Mr. Charles Huck carried on with this idea and finally came up with a machine that can create prototypes. Later he also co founded a 3 D manufacturing company that is right now one of the largest 3 D company in the world and contributes a lot to modern era problems. After this initiative, progress on additive manufacturingprocess or 3 D printing got started, and since then, it became one of the most important sector of science, specifically engineering, as it have produced a lot of useful results and have also simplified some lengthy tasks, transforming them into efficient, accurate and cost effective activity. As discussed in introduction about types of 3 D printers and variety of industries where they can be used, explanations regarding these aspects are as follows: i.STEREO LITHOGRAPHY (SLA) ii. FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING iii. SELECTIVE LASER SINTERING (SLS) iv. MULTI JET MODELLING (MJM) v.VFLASH PRINTER vi. FUSED FILAMENT FABRICATION (FFF) OR FUSED DEPOSTION MODELLING (FDM) Fundamentals of all types of printers stated above are same. As prototypes are printed layer by layer, so certain dimensions are required by printers to print that part. For example, some are naturally introduced to cash; some run over favorable luck yet most buckle down from the begin to get some place on the planet. It simply all relies on upon how you were brought into this world. For a few individuals, life is brimming with anxiety and hardships. That is the way life was for somebody dear to me Kimberly Domonique. She had it troublesome from the beginning however, she picked not to give life a chance to get her down. At the point when life gave her lemons, she made lemonade. Kimberly is from the island of Haiti, she moved to the states at the age of ten years old. She lived in Queens, New York with her step mother, she was enrolled in public school shortly after her arrival. Going to school in America was difficult for her because she did not know how to speak nor understand the English language. She told me that what was also hard for her was developing friendships because there was no one like her that had her background. She moved out of Queens because of the violence that was occurring between black Americans and foreigners. The problem was that the foreigners used their methods of learning from their country and used it to their advantage because education was not free for them like it is here in the states. So this allowed them to get good grades and advance well, which made the black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Tuba Performance Review Essay What intrigues me the most about the tuba in this performance is that it is possible to play the lower notes very loudly. Normally, playing lower pitches in the tuba requires slow buzzing and a lot of air. Towards the end, the soloist belted out the incredibly low notes. Additionally, throughout the performance, I felt a range of emotions from feelinghappy to very anxious. The short staccato notes makes me feel cheerful but towards the end, the low pitched long notes makes me feel anxious and worried. Lastly, the short staccato notes that plays in a fast tempo intrigues me the most. Personally, it is a challenge for me to play shorter notes at a fast tempo therefore I am mesmerized that it is attainable. 2. His alcoholic and prostitute mother soon married William Manson but the marriage was short lived. His mother did not want anything to do with the boy and this pushed him to live on the streets and fend for himself. Pretty soon, Charles turned to petty crime to survive. By the time he was in his late teens, Charles was introduced to a life in prison. Charles met a girl in 1955 whom he married and brought with him to California. There, she became pregnant and Charles was back into his life of petty crimes leading him to another time in prison in 1956. The young wife eventually left him after a year. What made this even more difficult was that he had not given much attention to Vietnam or to foreign affairs in general (Moise 30). For a nation like the United States in need of a decision on the fly, this was very troubling. Earlier President Johnson felt that Harry Truman, in 1950, had erred by going into the Korean War without getting firm commitment of support from the congress (Moise 226). In other words it appeared to be that Johnson would be careful about getting involved in a conflict like Vietnam. Being careful to say the least was not the case at all. There was not much serious thought in escalating the Vietnam War until the Tonkin Gulf incident occurred. In the Gulf of Tonkin it was reported that two American destroyers had been attacked by North Vietnamese PT boats on August 4, 1964, (Friedman 293). Shortly after these incidents, Johnson immediately escalated the war by ordering airstrikes on North Vietnam (Friedman 293). These events made it so Johnson could raise United States involvement in Vietnam without congressional backing on his decisions. Increasing involvement in the war was appealing though because after the Tonkin Gulf incident support of military involvement in North Vietnam raised from thirty one percent approvals to fifty percent approval (Moise 226). In the U.K. all school members have respect for others, the schools and themselves. The schools are very strict as well, they make the students quietly walk the halls (like a library), and then when they get to their classroom they have to stand in the hallway until they are invited into the classroom, then they have to stand by their desk or table, until they are welcomed to sit. All the uniforms are pretty basic; girls get skirts, jumpers, slacks, and a shirt, shoes (most of the time black) and stockings. Boys get slacks, collared shirt, tie and sweater. They wear the sweater until high school, then they get a blazer (Walmsey, A). These factors, however, differ from region to region because different properties determine them. They include laws, cultures, and community set up. The same elements described the position and roles of women in ancient Greece. The two major cities with contrasting perceptions of women were Athens and Spartan. These areas had different cultures and set ups. Athens was a developed city at the time and consisted of a number of scholars ranging from philosophers to artists. Spartan, on the other hand, had a military like lifestyle and not so many scholars. These differences shaped the roles of women in different aspects of the two communities. The difference in positions led several philosophers and writers to put down texts on this subject. This essay refers to these texts to compare the women of Athens and Spartaand show the general inequality they experienced. Women in Athens had close to zero rights. They lived in a society that was dominated by men who preferred to isolate them. Women could not participate in public and civic matters especially politics. Citizens were the only ones that could get involved in civic issues. At the time, only men could be citizens (O Pry 8). Hers was a life that revolved around moods that controlled her behavior and how she functioned in the world around her. The moods were the result of an illness that affects many individuals (1). If the brain is indeed the cause of the sickness of moods, then can it be argued that moods are created biologically? As mental illnesses, like manicdepression, are further understood, society is moving intellectually away from seeing them as anything other than organic. Scientific research of mental illness receives more funding now than it ever has (2). Jamison s story points to this yet again. For her, moods are wrapped up in biology, her genetics, images of her brain from an MRI or PET scan.
