The Babylonian Exile And The Color Purple Essay
Conceptions of God has the ability to be altered in order to mediate and bring together social and
political forces, as seen in Alice Walker s The Color Purple and the Babylonian Exile. Both examples
display the challenges some experience with their perception of God and how their outlook impacts
outlying forces. These forces, specifically social and political, are prevalent in the individual s daily
lives, causing them to confront the conflicts that exist between these forces and how their viewpoint of
God can interfere and aid in mediating the forces. The struggle to find a definite view of God is
highlighted in an excerpt from Alice Walker s The Color Purple, where the two main characters, Celie
and Shug, discuss what they believe to be their own conception of God. Celie described her perception
of God as being big and old and tall and gray bearded and white as ... Show more content on

The Babylonian Exile was a time in which Jewish people were exiled from Jerusalem and forced to
live in Babylon as captives. During the Babylonian Exile, many Jewish people had only faith to hold
onto as a way of staying strong and not succumbing to their situation and perceived God, or Jeremiah,
as their light and support system. In a letter to the Babylon Exiles from the prophet Jeremiah, he gives
words of wisdom to the exiles by encouraging them to maintain their faith, reproduce and emphasized
the need to hear the word of the LORD as those who have not will receive severe punishment. In their
case, the Israelites perception of God grew stronger to aid them in their situation, as well as help
mediate the social and political forces that were apparent during this time. They were able to create a
sense of unity with each other in a time of political uprising and learn to adapt to their situation

Forgiveness
Being able to forgive and forget allows people to continue to move on with their lives instead of
dwelling on a situation. However, would one be able to forget about a situation more easily if they
have forgiven their transgressor first? Saima, Bierman, and MacLeod (2014) proposed a study to
address this question. They believe this is an important question to address because if forgiving makes
forgetting easier, it will allow people who are able to forgive to release offenses, empowering them to
preserve valued relationships and move on with their lives.
The independent variable presented in these studies is forgiveness and the dependent variable is the
ability to forget. The participants were between the ages of 18 and 39 and were made up ... Show more

They saw a cue word for 30 seconds and were asked to press the space bar as soon as the associated
scenario came to mind. Then were given one minute to give as much detail on the scenario as they
could. Finally participants then responded a second time to the forgiveness questionnaire.
The results of this study were that unforgiven scenarios were observed as more serious (M=6.750,
SD= .32) than forgiven scenarios (M=4.03, SD= .85). It was also observed that participants were more
motivated to forgive the offender for scenarios that had been forgiven (M=2.92, SD=. 76) then
unforgiven (M=5.84, SD= .76) (Saima, Bierman, MacLeod, 2014). The researchers were trying to

Girls Trip Screenwriter
Girls Trip Screenwriter Becomes the First Black Screenwriter to Achieve a $1 Million Hit Movie The
film Girls Trip reached a $100 million dollar box office hit which Hollywood execs could never have
predicted nor expected with an all black female cast. Movies featuring an all black cast often lose its
general appeal to the audience. Therefore, the rated R comedy Girls Trip surprised everyone with the
news. When it hit the theaters last July, the overall box office receipts were actually low and towards
the end of August it even went down by 14% compared to ratings last year. This practically meant that
Girls Trip was unlikely to become the highest grossing comedy of the summer. The results even
surprised the movie s screenwriter Tracy Oliver. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are not a lot of black female writers in Hollywood. Oliver notes that being the first to reach this
milestone made her feel special it is. She co wrote the movie with Kenya Barris, the creator of the hit
television sitcom, Black ish which made her realize that even if there are many black films, there are
very few black writers and almost no female black writer. Oliver originally pursued acting but her
mom challenged her to change the stereotype casting of black women. So she took a playwriting class
and started BLACKstage, a black theater group at Stanford University. She became classmates with
Issa Rae where they became friends. The two women collaborated to create The Misadventures of
Awkward Black Girl and posted it on YouTube. They wanted to see black women on screen which led
to this idea. During that time, there were no black women on television even though people were
telling them it won t happen. Both women continued their plight on advocating black women on
screen. When Oliver heard that the director and producer of Girls Trip were looking for a writer, she

Essay on Cuban History and Government
On January 1, 1959, Fidel Castro and his band of rebels overtook the Cuban government. Their
Revolution was based on massive agrarian reform and equality throughout. It was not based on
Communism or communistic ideals. The US government was against the rise of Castro and his people.
They had been able to control the Cuban government by controlling the successive presidents, since
the Spanish American War early in the 20th Century. The rise of Castro was undertaken with a distinct
anti American flavor to it. Castro was able to expand his popularity by fusing the anti American fever
with massive reforms intended to give social and economic equality to all Cubans. The economic

In speeches made in July 1960, Khrushchev applauded the Cuban Revolution by saying it was the best
weapon against imperialism, and Eisenhower made note that the United States would not permit a
regime controlled by international communism to established in the Western Hemisphere. [4] Later
that month, Khrushchev sent note to Castro that if an armed invasion occurred, they could rely on the
full support of the Soviet defenses in the Cuban cause. [5] This marked the first time the Soviet
government went out on a limb and said they would defend Cuba militarily speaking. Yet Cuba was
not a socialist state in 1960.
During the fall of 1960...after completing the economic stage...of nationalizing US firms...the Cuban
government threw itself into the nationalization of private Cuban corporations...Moscow opinion held
that the Cuban Revolution was getting dangerously ahead of schedule...It should be pointed out that
even though no one, either in Havana or in Moscow, breathed a word of it in the fall of 1960, the
transition to socialism was already under way in Cuba. [6]

two countries. Because of the hierarchy of nationalities that Saudi Arabia has being Saudi Egyptian

Disadvantages Of A Vertical Merger
The market shares of the combining entities prior to the proposed merger and of the combined entity
subsequent to the merger, constitute an important criteria for determination of the level of
concentration in the market which in turn indicates the level of competition in the market.
The European Commission takes into consideration the accretion of market power in the upstream as
well as the downstream market. It is difficult to assess the adverse effects of a vertical integration, as
only the market share is not a clear indicative of all the possible anti competitive effects of such a
merger. As discussed in the earlier section of this study, the European Commission also takes into
account the loss of potential competition that might result from the vertical merger.
In India the Competition Act, 2002 categorically numerates, among the factors, the market shares of
the persons and/or entities in a combination, both individually and as a combination. The CCI has to
adjudge which other factors in addition to the market share has to be considered for the evaluation of
the proposed merger.
Lessons to be learned: The assessment of a vertical merger is much more complex than horizontal
mergers and the same approach cannot be used to adjudge both the types of mergers. However, the
Competition Act, 2002, does not specify or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect Of Helicopter Parenting
Helicopter parenting is a form of upbringing where a parent is more likely to help their child with all
of their problems. It is not uncommon for these parents to pay their child s bills and continue doing
their laundry among other things when they ve reached their secondary education (e.g. College,
University). (Meno) This type of parent doesn t necessarily control everything the child does, but they
protect them from any possible loss or failure in attempt to help them succeed. Though many have
different views on the parenting method, more research must be done in order to assess its
effectiveness. Though there have been countless books and studies on parenting, there have only been
a handful that thoroughly looked at the effects of helicopter parenting in particular. Research has been
put into the effects on skill development in children, commitment, and emotional stability throughout
their life. In order to understand where these effects stemmed from, research was done to compare
education level at a young age between those with helicopter parents and those without.
Impact on Skill Development When in an educational environment, it s easy to split apart those who
tried to achieve a higher grade point average, and those who didn t. This is not necessarily a reflection
of intelligence level, but rather a difference in motivation. Students with helicopter parents tend to be
less engaged in their school work when compared to those with less protective parents. (Sharon)

Firefighting Research Papers
Much like all events and natural phenomena that pose a threat to civilization, humans have learned to
cope with and prevent the loss of human life and destruction of property in devastating blazes that can
break out seemingly at random. Fighting fires was not always the science it is today, but due to the use
of new technologies and the fundamental understanding of what fire is, how it spreads, how it can kill,
and how it is stopped, our protocol when dealing with fires has increased our success rate and
continues to grow with applications of engineering, chemistry, and meteorology.
An understanding of how fires, wildfires in particular, work was a fundamental part in learning how to
fight fires properly. This understanding entailed knowing what makes a fire a fire, what could cause a
fire, what hinders and aids a fire s growth, what different types of fire there are, and the characteristics
of said types. Without the basic understanding of these things, it would have made the evolution of
aerial firefighting next to impossible.
Fire is explained in a tetrahedron of necessary requirements a fire needs before it is able to spring to
life. First, is sufficient fuel. Different types of fuel coincide with different types of terrain. In dry,
sparse areas, dead grass and shrubs provide the best fuel. In lush, green forests, pine needles, leaves,
twigs, and other such things typically underfoot makes for the best fuel . Second, is an oxidizing
agent. This could be the oxygen

The Changing Role Of Prisons In The 18th Century
Between the late 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, crime was generally perceived as
a rising lower class problem which required brutal suppression. For this reason, the criminal justice,
particularly in the latter part of the 17th century, became more punitive and coercive: corporal
punishments such as flogging, mutilation and execution were increasingly used as predominant
sanctions (Braithwaite, 1993). These forms of punishments often took place in public, as the main
objective at the time was to put offenders into highly stigmatic shame through brutal humiliation,
degradation and out casting (Beattie, 1984). Prisons at the time were typically characterised by no
segregation of men from women, no classification of offenders, and no segregation of tried and
untried offenders (Muncie and McLaughlin). In the late 18th century, as recorded by John Howard
(penal reformer), the regimes implemented in prisons were such that offenders were living in
appalling conditions: indeed, Howard reported that prisons were poorly ventilated and illuminated,
and they were mostly characterised by lack of sanitation, washing facilities and cleanliness.
Nevertheless, throughout the 18th century, influential personalities such as ... Show more content on

common forms of unproductive labour, had no place in Brebner s regime (ElectricScotland,

International Relations Theories And Global Climate Change...
Introduction:
Why has a collective, global solution to climate change become stuck? What international relations
theories can explain this and how can they facilitate better cooperation between countries? A global
climate change solution has been stuck due to the unwillingness or inability of developed nations like
the U.S. to take responsibility of their large share of the past and current greenhouse gas emissions.
Reducing emissions in developed countries is not enough, and the weighted action needed cannot be
equal between developed and developing nations. This means we cannot expect large developing
countries such as India and China to reduce their emissions at the same rate as the U.S., or other
developed nations. The Paris Climate Agreement has been ineffective in the sense that the agreement
is not binding or you could say lacks obligation. Another reason why a collective action has been
stuck is the problem of the lack of uniform acceptance that climate change is real, most notably in the
U.S, which creates a battle internally on how to address it. This lack of acceptance can influence the
policy of states, such as the U.S., which has directly contributed to the U.S. s inability to meet their
requirements in the Paris Climate Agreement. Also, the power of private interests can have major
effects on policy, especially in a political system such as the U.S.
Institutionalism and Constructivism are two international relations theories that can explain this

Newton graduated from college with no honours or distinctions, but his efforts won him the title of
scholar and four years of financial support to be used for further education. Sadly, the Great Plague
came to Cambridge, forcing the university to close. Newton returned home to pursue a private study.
During this eighteen month period, Newton conceived the method of infinitesimal calculus, gained
substantial insight into the laws of planetary insight, and set foundations for his theory of light and
colour. These insights eventually led to Newton publishing Principia in 1687. Philosophiæ Naturalis
Principia Mathematica, simply referred to as Principia, is a work that consists of three books written in
Latin. It states Newton s law of motion, Newton s law of universal gravitation, forms the foundation
of classical mechanics, and a derivation of Kepler s laws of planetary motion. After corrections were
made to the first addition, Newton published another two editions in 1723 and 1726. Principia is
regarded as one of the most important works in the complete history of science. Newton developed
Calculus around the same time as Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. This led to a dispute between these two
great minds. It is believed that Newton and Leibniz both developed calculus independently with very
different notions. Newton was reluctant to publish his calculus, because he feared that it would cause

Francois Boucher s The Toilette Of Venus
Art is a medium for exploring a culture s characteristics during a specific time. Understanding an art
piece s content and historical significance can reveal key details about different civilizations.
Following the time period of the Renaissance, European artists experimented with styles to separate
their works from the prior time period. They strayed away from even lighting, stillness, and symmetry
to form a new artistic style that differed from the Renaissance. This type of style was labeled the
Baroque, a European aesthetic focused on movement, emotion, and drama. Francois Boucher was a

Art is able to evoke different feelings and emotions to each person that sets their eyes on it. The act of
looking is simple, but a lot comes from it. Where the eyes are first drawn to, the duration that the eyes
are focused on a specific detail, and the thoughts that flood one s brain when viewing art is all
significant. These actions say more than the piece itself, it reveals emotions of both the artist and the
audience. Art can be expressed through infinite forms, but the underlying importance is not with the
art itself. It represents a place in time, displaying what was noteworthy to an individual in their own
life. It serves as a lasting creation representative of human imagination with the ability to bring out a
multitude of emotions from whoever views it. When art is created it represents the creativity of the
human mind compacted into a physical object. Art has little usage aside from pure observation, yet it
has prevailed throughout time, showing its importance to humanity. Art provides a lens into humanity,
showcasing the human ability over time. When studied through history, art is a view into the
development of humans and their interests. Through something as basic as commonly using symmetry
to transitioning to asymmetry, the European s perspective following the Renaissance is revealed. The

The Pros And Cons Of Skateboarding Subculture
Our lecture defines a subculture as a diffuse social network that have a shared identity, distinctive
meaning around certain ideas, practices and objects, and a sense of marginalization from or resistance

is a constant flow of participant in and out of the subculture by the members becoming more or less

Analysis of Pauline Puyat’s TracksEssay
Analysis of Pauline Puyat s Tracks
One of the most striking characteristics of Pauline Puyat is her devout Catholicism and her desire to be
disconnected from the Ojibwa people. Throughout Tracks, she openly chooses Catholicism over her
native religion and abandons her native ways almost completely. When Pauline tries to help Fleur
prevent a miscarriage, she is literally held back by her conscious separation from the Ojibwa culture.
There are many things that Pauline fails to do to effectively prevent Fleur from miscarrying. The most
obvious is her failure to efficiently put together the herbal steep made of Alder: And I could not
remember the plant s configuration, even though its use was common enough for bleeding ... Show

Pauline s personification of the plants only continues this idea of confusion and abandonment. Her
prayer to the Catholic God is almost ironic; Pauline is begging her God to help her remember the
practices that she thinks sacrilegious.
Pauline s Catholicism and her duties as an Angel of Death continue to control her for the rest of the
passage. Before giving Fleur the Alder (or whatever herb she actually grabbed) steep, Pauline is
captivated by her face: Fleur s eyes were closed. Her face was drained of color. I k new this look and I
was fascinated, rapt, as at other death and sickbeds (157). Here, Pauline forgets what she is doing for
Fleur and reverts to her duty as the Angel of Death, abandoning her Ojibwa ways for Catholicism.
This seems to create further confusion for Pauline, as Fleur must instruct her on what to do with the
alder plant. When Pauline puts herself to that task, she finds that she is unable to do anything because
the Lord overtook [her] limbs and made them clumsy...it must have been his terrible will (157).
Pauline feels that God does not want her to help Fleur, and is preventing her from doing so by
deadening her limbs. Although she is trying to help Fleur, she simply cannot. Pauline s claims that
clumsiness and forgetfulness of Ojibwa traditions is God s terrible will, are a claim of validity for both
her follies in this passage and her stubborn separations from the Ojibwa.

Why Was the Us Afraid of Ussr
Why was the United States afraid of the Soviet Union after WWII? Why was the Soviet Union afraid

2 When World II ended it brought about a period of mistrust and uneasiness between the United States
and the Soviet Union. Communism and democracy were two totally different types of governments
which ran the two most powerful countries in the world. These two countries were the US and the
USSR. When the Second World War ended it brought about the Cold War. The Cold War was a war

With this goal they cut through the idea of the Russians wanting to end capitalism. The Soviets had
been invaded a 3
couple of times and wanted to set up a barrier to help protect them more. The Soviets and the US both
felt like their way of life was in jeopardy and would do anything to prevail. The US and the Soviets
wouldn t work together. If they had they would have a more successful chance of creating more for
themselves. Instead they felt like they couldn t take the chance with letting the other break their trust.
Both countries did a good job in not letting the cold war become a nuclear one. President Truman
decided not to use nuclear weapons in the Korean War. If he had the Soviet Union would have struck
back with a nuclear strike on the US. President Eisenhower did not get involved in a revolution
located in Europe. He knew the soviets wouldn t stand for it. The soviets also stood down during the

Being A Palliative Care Nurse
Palliative Care
Throughout this course, I have learned new information and refreshed myself on old information. I
was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going through palliative or end of
life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful job. The nurse needs to be fully
educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best possible care for the patients and their
families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role of the palliative care nurse, cultural
competency, pain control of those in palliative care, communication strategies, and legal and ethical
issues that may occur during the end of one s life.
Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care
Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their roles
can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p. 13). In the
video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse On Kirsty TV
(2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family, be available for
the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc, involve the family in the
healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm environment and a positive
atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most importantly be there with the
patient during this time. Caring for these patients and

Positive Effects Of The Cuban Revolution
Castro dictatorship in Cuba really benefits the people of Cuba. Castro was able to achieve in Cuba
what Batista was not able to achieve. Castro s regime at the time was being highly criticized, but if
you do an analysis of the country both before and after the revolution reveals that quality of life
improved under Castro for the majority Cubans.
Cuba revolution benefited majority of Cubans. According to primary source 2 in 1959 Cuba became
the first communist state in the western hemisphere. In the same year was when Castro was trying to
become the leader of Cuba. Lots people were against Castro at the time because they didn t think that

Ewah Research Paper
Growing up in the south we tend to create and use colorful vocabulary. We have y all, darn tootin,
fixin to and among others cattywampus. Cattywampus is a word that I have grown up hearing in my
house. To me it means messy, disorganized, and to say the least discombobulated. The etymology of a
word does not always have to be symbolic; sometimes there is an actual historical story behind it. My
mom still tells me today that my room, car, or myself are all cattywampus and that I should fix it. In
Cherokee folklore, there is a beast which lurks at night called Ewah or wampus cat. Ewah was a
woman who disguised herself in the skin of a cougar to spy on the men of the tribe. The men would sit
around the campfire with their wolf brothers , and tell sacred stories on their journeys or hunting trips
(Anderson). While spying on the men, she was discovered. The men took her to the tribe s medicine
man/ shaman; the shaman punished her by transforming her into what she disguised herself as...half
woman, half cat (Conley). Looking out of sorts, crazy, and chaotic, Ewah was enraged by her curse;
she ran into the woods, never to be seen again. Supposedly Ewah still haunts the forests of East
Tennessee and the edge of Carolina waiting to exact her revenge. ... Show more content on

Gun Control Laws
While many people believe there should be more gun control and the possibility of banning guns all
together, I believe the gun control laws should not be changed. Although there are many reasons that
may persuade people to choose to ban guns, I believe that there are several other reasons that lead to
all the tragedies with guns in America. Banning guns is not an answer the gun problem in America,
there are a few other things that could be done to stop gun violence. In this essay I will tell about why
I believe gun control laws should not be changed. After the many shootings in schools over the past
two years, many people believe guns should be made illegal for civillians to posses or purchase guns.

Also, many people obtain guns from stealing it from another person, or buying it off a citizen who is
unknowledgable or uncaring for the law, or the temperment of the buyer. Besides, if a person who is of
age, and has a clear record wishes to buy a gun to be violent with it, there is no way of preventing him
or her. Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce gun violence is correct.
However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him
or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is
accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring
up a rise in violence with other weapons. Unfortunately, many people possess guns would should not
posses one. However I do not see it feasible to strengthen guns laws. I believe that there should be
stronger penalties for people who are caught with a gun illegally and stronger penalties for people who
are or threaten violence with a gun. This would make people think twice about smuggling a gun, or
carry them when they are not supposed to. This might also influence Congress to pass a law for a
stronger background check on people purchasing a gun, which would satisfy both sides of this
argument. A stronger penalty for gun offenders might cause the amount of violence without a gun to

Ethnographic Research on Victoria s Secret and Target The purpose of this paper was to observe the

because I myself am consumers of those stores quite often, then to analyze the behavior of the
consumers of Victoria s Secret and Target. Victoria s Secret and Target consumers differ because of the
difference in type of retail they offer and sell. Victoria s Secret consumers know what they are going

One consumer who was around the age of 45 spent about 15 minutes looking through body mists and

many consumers who were with more than one person did complain about prices. They made
comments about how they can get the same item at Target or Wal Mart for a lower price. Those who
were out shopping for Christmas presents I found complained more, as if they were hoping for a
special deal due to the holiday. One customer I overheard stated, she is crazy to think I am going to
spend $50 on one pair of yoga pants, I ll go to Target and get a pair for $20 instead. I did not hear
many consumers ask about prices, Victoria s Secret tags every product with a price, so consumers are
aware of the price as they browse. I decided to tag along with Lesnick and observe what kind of
questions she was asked, or how she was treated when she would approach a customer. The retail staff
was very friendly, and helpful. I did observe that many consumers were annoyed of this; I witnessed
one customer who was approached by six sales associates. She finally threw her hands up and said, I

Kashmir s economy is mostly made up of agriculture that takes place in its fertile valley areas. Rice,
corn, wheat, barley, fruits and vegetables are the main crops grown in Kashmir while lumber, and the

Compare And Contrast Superman Vs Batman
Who would win in a fight between Superman and Batman? is a question that has dated back to the
creation of both characters. Starting with the launch of the New 52 event, DC Comics revamped their
entire comic line rewriting the history and abilities of their characters. I will be focusing on the state of
both Superman and Batman as they exist after the New 52. While many would argue that Batman
could outsmart Superman, I would argue that Superman s overall strength and previous history

Superman is undoubtedly stronger than Batman. Superman possess immense strength, enough to

Besides What The Grim Wolf With Privy Paw Analysis
foul contagion spread connotates decay as he refers to the sheep who rot from the emptiness of their
stomachs (127). The rotting sheep also represent the metaphorical flock of members in the Roman
Catholic church, where rot inwardly refers to the rotting of their empty spiritual souls. Milton extends
this pastoral metaphor with the wolf, as a common devourer of sheep, in Besides what the grim wolf
with privy paw (128). The wolf operates as a symbol for the clergy that preyed on its members
through the theft of money and religious freedom. The privy, or secret paw of the wolf in, Besides
what the grim wolf with privy paw, alludes not only to wolves as a common threat to sheep, which
further demonstrates Wilson s ability to write about pastoral life, but it also alludes to Henrietta Maria
s practice of secret conversions in the Roman Catholic church (Greenblatt et al. 1922). The idea of
sheep with no control to stop the wolves who devour daily, is a metaphor for the increasing power of
the archbishop and the church of England, and the diminishing power of the members who practice it
(129). Milton s extended sheep metaphor enforces the claims that bishops, reoccurringly untrained and
out of tune with the holy spirit, neglected their religious duties, and caused more harm to their
congregations than good. The speaker succeeds again at consistently illustrating the death of Lycidas
through nature imagery in the following metaphor: So sinks the day star in the

Xerox and Fuji Xerox
The structure of the joint venture between Xerox Corporation and Fuji Xerox became an issue in the

copiers and Kodak and IBM in the high end has led them to lose market share. The growth of the
Asian and South Pacific Market as well as the necessity of Fuji Xerox to be more independent

more profitable for the group to produce and deliver products for this market through Fuji Xerox than

The last question to asses would be: Is there conditions for the sustainability of the joint venture? We

How To Act During A Personal Injury Case
If you have to give a deposition in regards to a personal injury case, you need to know what to expect
and how to act during your deposition. How you respond and act during your deposition could have a
significant effect on your case. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind while giving your
deposition.
#1: A Deposition Is About Sharing Information, Not Making Your Case
The first thing you need to realize is that even though you are under oath during a deposition, a
deposition is significantly different than a trial. During the deposition, opposing counsel s attorney
will be able to ask you questions pertaining to the case in order to gain information about the case.
Opposing counsel will not be cross examining you and there will be no jury to impress. Your job is to

question, or you may provide an answer that covers ground they were not even trying to learn about.
You don t want to give away any information you don t have to during your deposition.
#3: Try Your Best To Keep Calm
Although this is not a trail, opposing counsel may use the deposition as an opportunity to figure out
how you respond under stress to rapid questions and different tones. It s important that you don t give

Bartleby Underground Man Analysis
Throughout literature, the theme of alienation has held various personas that have been viewed in
different ways. Since the 1980s the rate of adults who consider themselves isolated has doubled
(Morning Shift). Learning this led me to believe that an isolated individual like Bartleby and the
Underground Man are more relatable to us now. Alienation can be romanticised to an extent due to the
mysteriousness a character can hold because he is an unknown. Humans find that which they cannot
have the most appealing whether it be a candy bar, or allow interaction with an individual. Two of the
biggest examples of alienation I have seen thus far is Bartleby and the Underground Man. Both quite
odd in their own ways, but isolated nonetheless, and both by choice. Even though the two characters
had their similarities they were also quite different. For example, the Underground Man while isolated
at least made attempts throughout his lifetime to not be. Bartleby, however, slowly became more and
more isolated as the story went on. To start off let s discuss the Lawyer from Bartleby, the relationship
the Lawyer shared with his subordinates could be identified as a Marx capitalist alienation. As
theorized by Marx, alienation in the workplace is a fourfold process that involves the object being
produced, the process of production, the employee, and his coworkers (Bancroft). For Bartleby, his
products were copies he made for the Lawyer, and the process was the copying he did. From what I

The next day Daijaan brings Anjali by to apologize to Yash for breaking his pot, as Anjali calls it, not

officially, the virginity pledge states that Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God,

For the most part, typically this reason is an individual s religion and belief (Kim and Rector, 2009).
Signing a virginity pledge is a solemn vow for individuals with strong religious commitment but that
it has much less meaning for those with low religious commitment (Landor 2013). For individuals
with a high viewpoint on religion, having the approval of their higher up is everything. For them,
having sex is a sin, which is something that is not allowed, especially as a Christian. An individual
with these kinds of viewpoints are more likely to keep their pledge strictly because this is what they
believe; in the case of religion, virginity pledging can be an effective type of birth control (Bersamin,
2005).
But what happens when an individual decides to make the pledge, but isn t fully committed to their
church or religion? It is said that if the pledge is made privately for oneself rather than publicly, an
individual is more likely to keep their commitment. When someone strongly believes in something,
they will do everything in their power to keep that promise to their self. Another reason why someone
would make this promise is for the feeling of self worth or accomplishment. It is thought that God will
love you more and be so proud of you; this individual will also live a much happier marriage life with
someone you weren t meant to be with. Waiting until marriage also shows that the marriage will be

How Has Feminism Influenced Music
Has feminism influenced music in the last 30 years? Introduction Feminism and music have long been
combined throughout the 1900 s. However, in my essay I will be attempting to answer the question of
has feminism influenced music, particularly in the last 30 years. The near infinite variation of
feminism expressed in a range of different types of music genres has led to many interesting and
empowering assortments of music being established. One such genre is punk music, which is the most
popular genre to be combined with feminism, to create hard hitting and powerful bands, which were
most commonly formed, in particular, in the 1970s and 1990s. I will be investigating in this essay, in
particular, questions such as what has been the most significant impact of feminism and music, and
how this began to get popular, to help me answer the ultimate question of has feminism influenced

arguments for and against in detail. Has feminism influenced music? One argument that suggests
feminism hasn t influenced music in the past 30 years is that recent artists are still protesting against

How Cystic Fibrosis Affect The Occupation Of Rest And Sleep
Cystic fibrosis, a debilitating, genetic disease, disturbs the mucus glands of the lungs, pancreas, and

struggling to adapt to high school life with cystic fibrosis. She spends over three hours a day
exclusively nebulizing and performing airway clearance therapy; this time does not include doctor s

stressed since she cannot find adequate time for social participation, homework, plus added teenage

with us and we decided to tailgate. We bought pizzas, and beers and headed down to the stadium. As
we pull up and park we unloaded the food and beers. I brought the football out we ran routes in the
parking lot. The game had already begun but we were having too much fun at the time to pay

characterized war as a means to remove obstacles standing in the way of political objectives. In Mao s

These forces, specifically social and political, are prevalent in the individual s daily lives, causing them to confront the conflicts that exist between these forces and how their viewpoint of God can interfere and aid in mediating the forces. The struggle to find a definite view of God is highlighted in an excerpt from Alice Walker s The Color Purple, where the two main characters, Celie and Shug, discuss what they believe to be their own conception of God. Celie described her perception of God as being big and old and tall and gray bearded and white as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a letter to the Babylon Exiles from the prophet Jeremiah, he gives words of wisdom to the exiles by encouraging them to maintain their faith, reproduce and emphasized the need to hear the word of the LORD as those who have not will receive severe punishment. In their case, the Israelites perception of God grew stronger to aid them in their situation, as well as help mediate the social and political forces that were apparent during this time. They were able to create a sense of unity with each other in a time of political uprising and learn to adapt to their situation through the help of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Forgiveness Being able to forgive and forget allows people to continue to move on with their lives instead of dwelling on a situation. However, would one be able to forget about a situation more easily if they have forgiven their transgressor first? Saima, Bierman, and MacLeod (2014) proposed a study to address this question. They believe this is an important question to address because if forgiving makes forgetting easier, it will allow people who are able to forgive to release offenses, empowering them to preserve valued relationships and move on with their lives. The independent variable presented in these studies is forgiveness and the dependent variable is the ability to forget. The participants were between the ages of 18 and 39 and were made up ... Disadvantages Of A Vertical Merger The market shares of the combining entities prior to the proposed merger and of the combined entity subsequent to the merger, constitute an important criteria for determination of the level of concentration in the market which in turn indicates the level of competition in the market. The European Commission takes into consideration the accretion of market power in the upstream as well as the downstream market. It is difficult to assess the adverse effects of a vertical integration, as only the market share is not a clear indicative of all the possible anti competitive effects of such a merger. As discussed in the earlier section of this study, the European Commission also takes into account the loss of potential competition that might result from the vertical merger. In India the Competition Act, 2002 categorically numerates, among the factors, the market shares of the persons and/or entities in a combination, both individually and as a combination. The CCI has to adjudge which other factors in addition to the market share has to be considered for the evaluation of the proposed merger. It is not uncommon for these parents to pay their child s bills and continue doing their laundry among other things when they ve reached their secondary education (e.g. College, University). (Meno) This type of parent doesn t necessarily control everything the child does, but they protect them from any possible loss or failure in attempt to help them succeed. Though many have different views on the parenting method, more research must be done in order to assess its effectiveness. Though there have been countless books and studies on parenting, there have only been a handful that thoroughly looked at the effects of helicopter parenting in particular. Research has been put into the effects on skill development in children, commitment, and emotional stability throughout their life. In order to understand where these effects stemmed from, research was done to compare education level at a young age between those with helicopter parents and those without. Impact on Skill Development When in an educational environment, it s easy to split apart those who tried to achieve a higher grade point average, and those who didn t. This is not necessarily a reflection of intelligence level, but rather a difference in motivation. Students with helicopter parents tend to be less engaged in their school work when compared to those with less protective parents. (Sharon) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firefighting Research Papers Much like all events and natural phenomena that pose a threat to civilization, humans have learned to cope with and prevent the loss of human life and destruction of property in devastating blazes that can break out seemingly at random. Fighting fires was not always the science it is today, but due to the use of new technologies and the fundamental understanding of what fire is, how it spreads, how it can kill, and how it is stopped, our protocol when dealing with fires has increased our success rate and continues to grow with applications of engineering, chemistry, and meteorology. An understanding of how fires, wildfires in particular, work was a fundamental part in learning how to fight fires properly. This understanding entailed knowing what makes a fire a fire, what could cause a fire, what hinders and aids a fire s growth, what different types of fire there are, and the characteristics of said types. Without the basic understanding of these things, it would have made the evolution of aerial firefighting next to impossible. Fire is explained in a tetrahedron of necessary requirements a fire needs before it is able to spring to life. First, is sufficient fuel. Different types of fuel coincide with different types of terrain. In dry, sparse areas, dead grass and shrubs provide the best fuel. In lush, green forests, pine needles, leaves, twigs, and other such things typically underfoot makes for the best fuel . Second, is an oxidizing agent. This could be the oxygen ... • 12. The Changing Role Of Prisons In The 18th Century Between the late 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, crime was generally perceived as a rising lower class problem which required brutal suppression. For this reason, the criminal justice, particularly in the latter part of the 17th century, became more punitive and coercive: corporal punishments such as flogging, mutilation and execution were increasingly used as predominant sanctions (Braithwaite, 1993). These forms of punishments often took place in public, as the main objective at the time was to put offenders into highly stigmatic shame through brutal humiliation, degradation and out casting (Beattie, 1984). Prisons at the time were typically characterised by no segregation of men from women, no classification of offenders, and no segregation of tried and untried offenders (Muncie and McLaughlin). In the late 18th century, as recorded by John Howard (penal reformer), the regimes implemented in prisons were such that offenders were living in appalling conditions: indeed, Howard reported that prisons were poorly ventilated and illuminated, and they were mostly characterised by lack of sanitation, washing facilities and cleanliness. Nevertheless, throughout the 18th century, influential personalities such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. International Relations Theories And Global Climate Change... Introduction: Why has a collective, global solution to climate change become stuck? What international relations theories can explain this and how can they facilitate better cooperation between countries? A global climate change solution has been stuck due to the unwillingness or inability of developed nations like the U.S. to take responsibility of their large share of the past and current greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing emissions in developed countries is not enough, and the weighted action needed cannot be equal between developed and developing nations. This means we cannot expect large developing countries such as India and China to reduce their emissions at the same rate as the U.S., or other developed nations. The Paris Climate Agreement has been ineffective in the sense that the agreement is not binding or you could say lacks obligation. Another reason why a collective action has been stuck is the problem of the lack of uniform acceptance that climate change is real, most notably in the U.S, which creates a battle internally on how to address it. This lack of acceptance can influence the policy of states, such as the U.S., which has directly contributed to the U.S. s inability to meet their requirements in the Paris Climate Agreement. Also, the power of private interests can have major effects on policy, especially in a political system such as the U.S. Institutionalism and Constructivism are two international relations theories that can explain this ... Although there are many reasons that may persuade people to choose to ban guns, I believe that there are several other reasons that lead to all the tragedies with guns in America. Banning guns is not an answer the gun problem in America, there are a few other things that could be done to stop gun violence. Also, many people obtain guns from stealing it from another person, or buying it off a citizen who is unknowledgable or uncaring for the law, or the temperment of the buyer. Besides, if a person who is of age, and has a clear record wishes to buy a gun to be violent with it, there is no way of preventing him or her. Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce gun violence is correct. However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring up a rise in violence with other weapons. Unfortunately, many people possess guns would should not posses one. However I do not see it feasible to strengthen guns laws. I believe that there should be stronger penalties for people who are caught with a gun illegally and stronger penalties for people who are or threaten violence with a gun. This would make people think twice about smuggling a gun, or carry them when they are not supposed to. This might also influence Congress to pass a law for a stronger background check on people purchasing a gun, which would satisfy both sides of this argument. • 30. Besides What The Grim Wolf With Privy Paw Analysis foul contagion spread connotates decay as he refers to the sheep who rot from the emptiness of their stomachs (127). The rotting sheep also represent the metaphorical flock of members in the Roman Catholic church, where rot inwardly refers to the rotting of their empty spiritual souls. Milton extends this pastoral metaphor with the wolf, as a common devourer of sheep, in Besides what the grim wolf with privy paw (128). The wolf operates as a symbol for the clergy that preyed on its members through the theft of money and religious freedom. The privy, or secret paw of the wolf in, Besides what the grim wolf with privy paw, alludes not only to wolves as a common threat to sheep, which further demonstrates Wilson s ability to write about pastoral life, but it also alludes to Henrietta Maria s practice of secret conversions in the Roman Catholic church (Greenblatt et al. 1922). The idea of sheep with no control to stop the wolves who devour daily, is a metaphor for the increasing power of the archbishop and the church of England, and the diminishing power of the members who practice it (129). Milton s extended sheep metaphor enforces the claims that bishops, reoccurringly untrained and out of tune with the holy spirit, neglected their religious duties, and caused more harm to their congregations than good. The speaker succeeds again at consistently illustrating the death of Lycidas through nature imagery in the following metaphor: So sinks the day star in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Bartleby Underground Man Analysis Throughout literature, the theme of alienation has held various personas that have been viewed in different ways. Since the 1980s the rate of adults who consider themselves isolated has doubled (Morning Shift). Learning this led me to believe that an isolated individual like Bartleby and the Underground Man are more relatable to us now. Alienation can be romanticised to an extent due to the mysteriousness a character can hold because he is an unknown. Humans find that which they cannot have the most appealing whether it be a candy bar, or allow interaction with an individual. Two of the biggest examples of alienation I have seen thus far is Bartleby and the Underground Man. Both quite odd in their own ways, but isolated nonetheless, and both by choice. Even though the two characters had their similarities they were also quite different. For example, the Underground Man while isolated at least made attempts throughout his lifetime to not be. Bartleby, however, slowly became more and more isolated as the story went on. To start off let s discuss the Lawyer from Bartleby, the relationship the Lawyer shared with his subordinates could be identified as a Marx capitalist alienation. As theorized by Marx, alienation in the workplace is a fourfold process that involves the object being produced, the process of production, the employee, and his coworkers (Bancroft). For Bartleby, his products were copies he made for the Lawyer, and the process was the copying he did. From what I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For individuals with a high viewpoint on religion, having the approval of their higher up is everything. For them, having sex is a sin, which is something that is not allowed, especially as a Christian. It is said that if the pledge is made privately for oneself rather than publicly, an individual is more likely to keep their commitment. When someone strongly believes in something, they will do everything in their power to keep that promise to their self. • 41. Carl Von Clausewitz s The Fundamental Nature Of War Carl von Clausewitz articulated a number of observations and principles describing the fundamental nature of war. First among these is his assertion that all military action, including war, is aimed at achieving a political objective. Additionally, he observed that each side in a conflict would resist the other with a degree of effort equal to the value of their political objective. Finally, he argued that it is essential to focus all efforts on overcoming an adversary s principle source of strength, otherwise called their center of gravity. Modern strategists can employ these same principles to gain better understanding of their adversary and develop a plan to achieve their objective. The primacy of politics, resistance, and center of gravity are Clausewitz s most profound insights and together they provide a tool that enable strategists to understand and overcome an adversary. History lends support to Clausewitz s description of war as an instrument of politics. Mao Tse tung recognized this relationship when he wrote about China s struggle to free itself from Japanese invaders. Mao characterized war as a means to remove obstacles standing in the way of political objectives.
