Fake News As An Unreliable Form Of Satire
The emergence and growing population of satire holds a strong position in the definition of
modern journalism. The term satire has been replaced in the mainstream by the phrase fake news
. This title implies an unreliable form of storytelling meant to translate to trickery, as this form of
news can hold just as much power in today s media as legitimate news outlets. Regardless of it s
popularity, the word fake should not be considered accurate, nor is it true to the real meaning. Satire
typically aims to entertain an audience or grab its attention in a more interesting way, while news
reports capture an event simply as it was. However, both forms of news may be guilty of carrying
bias in their stories, one more obviously than the other. Fake news , still a form of journalism,
carries a satirical form of political commentating that is still necessary in the world of reporting,
just in a different format and done for a different purpose.
The success and impact of satirical news stories rely on the consumer s ability to understand this
form of irony. If this effect is achieved, a story can be just as beneficial as any other form of
media. Popular satirical figure John Oliver agreed with this in reference to the use of irony in
relation to the viewer, stating in an interview that his job required making jokes about the news and
sometimes we need to research things deeply to understand them. (Oliver, 2014). This form of
storytelling is not always successful. The audience

(After beginning the interview and gathering information I decided to switch up my questions, and
narrow them down to be more specific to her personally from what I had in my oral proposal)
Interviewee: Barbara Gaston
Barbara Gaston was an old family/friend, who I didn t have much history on. She grew up in
Cincinnati, OH. She married at age 23 and defined herself primarily as a wife and mother for the
next 20 years. She was a young mother and wife, which was not untypical during this time. She
was the first born of four children, and later lived in a blended household. Her father worked in
copper mines, logging, and road construction. While her mother on the other hand was a stay at
home mom who took care of the children and did housekeeping. They lived on what her father
earned, as credit was not yet established as a way to obtain personal object and things. She
explained that if a woman were to work outside of the home at this time in history, they would
have held traditional gender roles such as a school teacher, nurse or secretary. She came from a
traditional religious background, as religious beliefs held their own expectations of being a woman,
and how a woman ought to be, including sexuality. Her grandmother was also a stay at home
mother, choosing not to go into the workforce.
Barbara Gaston describes her childhood in the late 1940s as a poor family who lived off of a strict
cash budget in Akron, OH. She described her life as a

The Emotional And Physical Burdens During The Vietnam War
Jimmy Cross: the Emotional and Physical Burdens in the Vietnam War
War has fascinated since the beginning of time for what they reveal about the human condition in
its worst squalor as in its greatness. Maybe Vietnam is best seen through a shattered helicopter
windshield. Chickenhawk is one bloody, painfully honest, and courageous book , recognizes Martin
Cruz Smith. Chickenhawk is Robert Mason s narrative of personal experience which deals
chronologically with his training in Vietnam. Through this description of war, Mason distinguishes
the physical part of war and the psychological phase. He also demonstrates that the expressive
aspect controls the physical. Consequently, this indication has remained intact. Tim O Brien in his
fictional story The Things They Carried, voices the idea that the psychological burdens overshadow
the physical pain that the soldiers must carry: They carried all the emotional baggage of men who
might die. Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass
and specific gravity, they had tangible weight (O Brien 926). O Brien claims that horror, longing,
responsibility, and uncertainty that the soldiers experience outweigh the physical agony that they
must resist to survive, loads that are lightened only a little by the willing to return home.
The weight of mental burden that probably weighs the most on the hearts of the men is fear. In the
forest of Vietnam, young soldiers are forced to carry

Loretta Pyles The Capabilities Approach And Violence...
According to The Capabilities Approach and Violence Against Women by Loretta Pyles (2008),
the primary goal to social development is to increase income or material wealth in order to end
poverty and equality of opportunity is what matters most for well being. Poor and low income
individuals are at risk because they do not have money and lack certain freedoms and
capabilities. Additionally, poor and impoverished women who are victims of physical and sexual
abuse have less freedom and accesses to resources. Moreover, Pyles (2008) explains that, Violence
against women affects the ability of women to achieve full functioning in the world. For example,
women of physical and sexual abuse are isolated, by their abusers, from financial resources,

George Orwell s The Girl From Everywhere
The Girl From Everywhere
I loved the amazing story of The Girl From Everywhere. My favorite part of the novel is between
the amazing setting both feelings and culture, the relationship between Nix and her father, and the
time travel in with all the different maps, and so many places they went.
This book is something special and should absolutely be a book you check out, and take the time
out to read.
Let me start by saying what a good author Heidi is. Not only is her story detailed, but her amzing
planning and setup of the plot leaves my mind with all expectations fulfilled.
Paradise is a promise no god bothers to keep. There s only now, and tomorrow nothing will be the
same, whether we like it or not.
The book takes place in late 1800 s Hawaii, and I liked how well Heidi has the vibes and feel of
the island of Oahu. The authors information towards the setting has me can t wait to visit and
feel and experience everything just as these characters did. I also really liked how Heidi captured
the turning point where Hawaii lost more of its Hawaiian culture, and became overrun by foreign
influence. It s a sad and tragic past, but someone has to tell it, but Hawaii was taken away from its
natural peacefulness in such a awful way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has a hard time with her desires and her idea of home and family. Slate, her father, is a
complex person. I loved this character in the book. Kashmir is dashing and comic relief. The
secondary characters were in and out of the book, but each had their own backstories. Mostly
everyone was likable too. One of my favorite parts of the book was the evolving relationship
between Nix and Slate. Slate s obsession with saving Nix s mother in the past really fractured any
genuine father daughter relationship. I loved seeing their relationship grow, and my favorite scene
in the whole novel happens between these

Whole Life Insurance Policy
Get to Know About Whole Life And Term Insurance Policies Have you ever thought what will
happen to your family if you ever die unexpectedly? If this is the case then you should surely
purchase a life insurance policy. By purchasing a life insurance policy you can secure the future
of your family. Taking a life insurance policy is similar to getting into an agreement between you
and the insurance company. The insurance company will consent to cover the loss of your life
with a coverage amount that you choose. Consequently you need to consent to pay the premiums
routinely. In case you die and if your death falls under the conditions that are secured in the
policy, the insurance company will pony up all required funds the face estimation of the policy.
The beneficiaries may be ponied up all required funds or either by installments for an express
stretch of time. So before getting a policy, ask yourself what sort of policy you will need and the

Same as the term life, this kind of policy will cover your death with insurance. In any case,
instead of having a term that may lapse on you, a whole life insurance will cover you from the
minute you purchase the policy until the time of your death. One more point of interest of this
policy is that this comes with an investment choice. The cash you pay consistently as premium has
two purposes. One section goes for the genuine cost of insurance coverage and alternate goes as an
investment arrangement which earns you an interest. Contingent upon the sort of whole life
insurance you choose you can tell the insurance company what amount you need to go towards the
coverage and what will go towards the investment. The whole life insurance policy assures you an
ensured death advantage that never decreases and upon death is usually free of government salary
taxes. If you choose you may take the death advantage as a month to month wage instead of a knot

Equal opportunities to all people prevent discrimination and social stigma, especially to
individuals with disabilities. Creating a policy to safeguard the welfare of this extraordinary
group of people is vital in the promotion of their well being. For citizens with Intellectual and
Developmental Disabilities (IDD), socioeconomic and/or environmental variables are significant
determinants of health. For the purpose of this essay, the emphasis will be on the intellectual and
developmental disabilities act and addressing their need to sustain healthy and active lives by
nourishing the basic necessity, the physiologic needs of the person. According to Maslow s

The purpose of the bill is to provide support to people with disabilities, in order for them to
function independently in the community and to preserve their rights as a citizen of this country,
as well as reducing the impact of poverty and aiding the procurement of various supports and
services, including vocational training, case management, and family support services (Keesler,
2015, p. 42).
In a socioeconomic standpoint, the passage of the bill encourages some financial relief for the
families with disabled members as they are vulnerable to various disparities. However, people with
disabilities still continue to experience an array of disadvantages, whether in economic, health, and
social outcomes, including food security (Brucker, 2016). In the ethical political perspective, the
bill protects the fundamental right of people with disability to be able to function and participate
independently as much as they can, as well as protecting their rights to participate in a research
and be accurately presented (Durham, Brolan, Mukandi, 2014). Encouraging to voice out the
concerns of this group of individuals will provide more advocacy, hence representing appropriately

A Study On Protein Deficiencies
Protein deficiencies are commonly observed in older adults, leading to decreased levels of physical
activity. Nutritional interventions with whey protein could improve these muscle parameters. Both
young and older D. melanogaster were fed a whey protein diet. Compared to the younger D.
melanogaster, the older population showed improved musclepower, grip strength and less muscle
fatigue. The climbing assay results were statistically significant, whereas the flying assay results
were not significant, but borderline. As such, the possibility of detecting a statistically significant
difference for the flying assay results cannot be dismissed, if a greater number of repetitions were
conducted. The younger D. melanogaster population did not... Show more content on

Whey protein is digested quickly because it is a leucine rich protein, and has a track record in
being more successful in synthesizing muscle protein in older populations than casein protein
which is digested more slowly (van Dijk et. al. 2016). Whey protein is given to D. melanogaster
flies rather than hemp or soy protein, because soy protein and hemp proteins are plant based
proteins while whey protein is from cows. Animal based proteins are easier to digest compared to
plant based proteins.
The study investigated the impacts of whey protein on two population groups that consisted of
young and old population of D. melanogaster because muscle damage could be simulated by age.
As people grow older, more damage in muscles occurs, and whey protein is expected to have a
greater effect. This effect is investigated in this experiment with D. melanogaster, where whey
protein improves muscle activity in older D. melanogaster.
D. melanogaster is a model organism in this experiment. A model organism is an organism which
is easy to study because it is cheap, reproduces easily and quickly, and the workings of it can lead
us to understand how other organisms work. By giving whey protein supplements to D.
melanogaster and observing the effects, it can provide understanding as to how a similar amount of
whey protein can affect humans. Of

The Color Red In Beloved By Toni Morrison
The color, red, symbolizes a variety of different meanings like the quote from an unknown source,
Red, the single most dynamic and passionate color, symbolizes love, rage and courage. Demanding
attention, red has great emotional impact. Those who select red are aggressive, impulsive and
strive for success. In the novel, Beloved, by Toni Morrison, the author demonstrates the colorredfor
the future, memories, and hope. The main character Sethe, had a baby girl named Beloved, after
her youngest daughter, Denver. Before, she was able to show her love and affection to Beloved,
she ended her misery and fate by slitting her throat open. In 124, the house was considered
spiteful and full of a baby s venom . Due to the killing of her baby, Beloved haunts the whole
house with a quote from the novel, Now the iron was back but the face, softened by hair, made
him trust her enough to step inside her door smack into a pool of pulsing red light. (Morrison,
11). The glowing aura is significant to the tragedy that took place in 124. At the beginning of
first chapter, it already gives the readers the sense of what took place and the imagery of the
situation. The quote represents how the baby ghost is ready to react to a stranger, which is Paul
D. from Sweet Home, a slave plantation. Another quote form the author, The red was gone but a
kind of weeping clung to the air where it had been. (Morrison, 11). With the color red, it can

Eastern Woodland Indians
Europeans often thought Indians on one hand were vicious cannibals, with no social
organization, but on the other hand pictured an Indian society as being orderly, advanced, and
civilized. There are nine famous paintings I had to analyze. The pictures showed Indians were
civilized people. Life among the Eastern Woodland Indians was organized, together, and civilized
in their own way. The economy for the Woodland Indians was organized and everyone had a job.
They were able to adapt to their surroundings. For their religion they believed that every animal or
living thing has a soul. So they would thank the first animal they killed of the year, but the photo

They were very developed. In photograph two we see the Indians working on a canoe or tearing
down a tree, but they don t have axes, they only have fire. So Indians couldn t have been
backwards or undeveloped , if they adapted without axes. To be civilized is to be able to adapt
and to be able to work together as one. Europeans perceive Indians as unmannered and
disgusting. Evidence is in photograph nine, when they are eating off the ground and their food
is laying in the dirt. It might impact two people, because one might be an Indian or have Indian
blood, and the other will think of that one a lowly or think of that person in a bad way. Indians
perceived Europeans as a problem. Indians didn t like their government, they liked their way and
their chief. Indians didn t like the Europeans culture. The Indians thought of it as bad. The Indians
didn t like the Europeans religion either. The Europeans didn t, think all living things had a soul

trying to control them, take their land. It shaped Europeans and Indians relationship as a bad one.

The Importance Of Dress Codes In Schools
Dress codes in schools were originally put into place to prevent students from dressing
inappropriate clothes that would distract from their learning, while still allowing students to
express themselves freely. However, these days, schools are enforcing dress codes that differ
greatly from their original purpose. Schools shouldn t be able to enforce dress codes because
they re unreasonable, they waste people s time, and they enforce sexist ideals. Among the banned
articles of clothing are: logos, emblems and graphics; prints, such as flowers, stripes and plaids
(Netter). On only the second day of school in August of 2009, Jacqueline Bell had both her children
sent home for violating this school s new dress code. Her son had been sent home for wearing a
plaid shirt, and her daughter, a pair of patterned pants. Nowadays the rules that schools enforce are
extremely unreasonable, and are nearly impossible for families to follow. They re becoming
more and more restrictive and, as Jacqueline had said, It s good enough to wear to church, but
not to school (Netter). The way that Jacqueline had worded it was perfect in describing the state
that dress codes had become. Dress codes were meant to only prevent students from wearing
clothes that were deemed inappropriate for the school environment, but they can t even wear
patterned outfits or shirts that go below a student s thigh. If it s acceptable for a students to wear
patterned shirts in church, which is much more formal than a school, then they shouldn t have
any problem wearing that exact same shirt to school. As well as being unreasonable, when a
student is sent home for dress code violations, it wastes their time, as well are their parent s time.
Stacie Dunn, whose daughter was sent home for an exposed collarbone, wrote this on Facebook
Parents are being called away from their important jobs and students are missing important class
time because they are showing their collarbones! Something needs to change! (Bologna). Dunn is
a great example of parents who are tired of their children being taken out of school for something
as trivial as a shirt that exposes a girl s collarbone. They feel that students are missing important
classes for the sake of keeping them

Who Is Andrew Jackson A Good President
It is hard to argue that any president of the United States has made no mistakes; however, Andrew
Jackson left a long lasting impact on presidency campaigns and made it what it is today. In
reference to the Great President Model Lecture, Jackson falls under the category of being great for
multiple reasons; one is being that he had served more than one term, another that he accomplished
something of long term importance and significance. In the two terms he had served, he had
forever changed the way campaigns are held. Jackson had a very bias opinion and somewhat of a
short temper. Since he was president, he often times made rash decisions without having others

Examples Of Foil In Antigone
Antigone by Sophocles, tells the story of two brothers, of one is given a proper burial and the other
is not. Throughout the story two characters contrast. In literature, a foil is a character that has
contrasting traits from another character. These distinctions often better develop characters and
help the reader notice the specific traits of each character. Antigonewho is outgoing, aggressive, and
willing to fight for what she believes in, contrasts with her sister, who is more introverted, soft
spoken, and cautious. Ismene is a foil for Antigone. Before committing the crime of burying
Polynices, Antigone must ask Ismene for help. Minimizing the risk of her crime, Antigone asks
Ismene for help as if it s a simple favor. Will you help me? Will you do something with me? Will
you? (507) Ismene, uncomfortable with helping Antigone, must decline. This is difficult for her,
so instead of just saying no, she feels she needs to give some sort of explanation. O sister, sister,
do you forget how our father perished in shame and misery, his awful sin self proved, blinded by
his own self mutilation? And then his mother, his wife, for she was both, destroyed herself in a
noose of her own making? And now our brothers, both in a single day... (507) Ismene... Show more

Self-Awareness and the Locus of the Self-Knowledge...
TITLE
Self awareness and the locus of the self knowledge development: a comparison study to investigate
developmental sequences using semi structured self concept interviews.
ABSTRACT
This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to
psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others
to the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate
self descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings,
underpinning the theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the
self as an object of knowledge. In the current study, a comparison ... Show more content on

Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities
and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits,
eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University,
2010, pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on
another person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self.
This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The
Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two
children aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development
of the self concept and the locus of self knowledge.
METHOD
Design
The study is a comparison of the self descriptions provided by two young people during one to one
semi structured self concept interviews.
Participants
Two participants participated in this study; an eight year old girl (Annie), and a sixteen year old
boy (Adam). They were recruited by The Open University course team who approached a primary
and secondary school in the Milton Keynes area (England), for volunteers whose parents signed the
relevant consent form. A number of volunteers were interviewed but only two of these interviews

The Rise Of Technology Allowed Us To Express And Share
The rise of technology allowed us to express and share history in different mediums; however, the
rise of technology has also corrupted the portrayal of history. In today s society, we can watch
movies that portray the stories of African American women like Hidden Figure or the Women s
Rights Movement such as Iron Jawed Angels with the press of a button. Scholars have argued that
technology has expanded the different ways we can gain historical knowledge. Scholar, Alison
Landsberg, introduces the idea of prosthetic memory, which she defines as a deeply felt memory of
a past event through which one did not live, which we gain through experiential learning
(Landsberg 2). Landberg argues that modernity and technology are new ways of gaining... Show

Disney s America will portray history from the founding fathers to the civil rights movement to
the women s rights movement. Disney s America will be located in Virginia because it is
surrounded by historical monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and
much more. Although many critics believe this will be a bad idea, Disney s America believes
this will bring attention to the historic towns, monuments, and battlefields. Disney s America will
use all the learning tools such as filmmaking, animation, environments, music, interactive media,
live interpretation (Eisner 2). With Disney s America, people can experience what it was like as
a civil war soldier by replicating the conditions the soldiers were in. Disney s America sheds light
on Alison Landsberg s theory of Prosthetic memory. Landsberg compares prosthetic memories to
an artificial limb and says these are memories we gain through media (Landsberg 23). To
effectively portray history, Disney s America will use a variety of tools; therefore, visitors can
experience these events first hand. Landsberg claims that through films we can critically think
about the world. These prosthetic memories help the audience to create their own political stance (
Landsberg 21). This clearly compares to Eisner s idea that Disney s America will encourage young
Americans to feel excited about history. Landsberg also argues through commodification we are
able to watch and construct social meanings.

Nellie Mccaaslin s Play
In the article Play by the author Nellie McCaslin, McCaslin talks about play and how play is
expressed in different ways. Some of the ways are through theatre, children, sports, rituals and

Silver In The 18th Century Dbq
Silver in the 16th century and early 18th century was a product that was widely used and traded
across the world both as a currency and a feature in households and stores. The trade of silver
included large scale social and economic effects that spread around the world, impacting large
centralized governments such as the chinese, to smaller, less organized areas in the americas. Silver
allowed the early modern age to flourish, and grow economically, socially, and in global trade.
Silver had a profound effect on the global economy, for example, silver backed nearly all of Chinas
economy back in the day and silver quickly became the core of China s economic life. This is
shown in documents 2,3,4,6, and 8 For example, in document 2, a Spanish... Show more content on

For example, silver began to be an important part of everyday dealings. Jobs were focused
towards silver production, foods and goods could be bought with silver coins, etc. This is
mainly shown in documents 1,5, and 7. For example on document 1 it shows the social effects
of the usage of silver in this time period. However I believe that the point of view in this passage
is slightly swayed by the fact that the author is a county official who is most likely wealthy and
he may simply be referring to his own greed. In document 5 it shows how silver was eventually
used as a currency and people were no longer able to keep tabs as they had to pay with silver up
front. I believe the purpose of this document is important due to the growing use of silver and how
it was affecting the cities that began to use it. In document 7 silver can clearly be seen affecting
social lives through the increased demand for foreign products. With a higher demand for these
products there is a much higher demand for the silver to purchase the goods. I believe the purpose
of this document is important because it shows the relationship between the different countries in
terms of trade for

Persuasive Essay On Trapped In America
Trapped in America For an American citizen my freedom is determined by the government,
making me question if I am truly free. Arguably many Americans have a political dispute over
our free, if our country is free or not. No doubt, I am by the side that thinks we aren t free. We
aren t even close to being free, we aren t a country who based our idea of being free and let
people come into our country to feel safe and to feel at home. The land of the free and the home
of the brave (Francis Scott Key) is the national anthem, it is saying men and women are free and
we are a strong country that doesn t give up on each other. In fact, we aren t even the top 15th
freest country in the world, that should mean something. As a country we say we are free, yet

country and a place to call home . Strangely enough, we left Britain because the King had the
power to overrule anyone, he was powerful and our people needed to leave. As a result, we
needed a place where you control yourself, and do what makes you happy without all the intense
power of the king. We now have come back to the overpowering ruling from someone around
you. Now we will always have someone that control you like your parents, your grandparents,
your teachers, and your boss . Similar to people is the objects that control us like money and guns.

Dental Laser Essay
INTRODUCTION :
New science and technologies are already making their way into all aspects of dental practice and
have changed the traditional approaches, which require that students and practitioners receive the
necessary knowledge.1 Dental laser is one of the most significant developments in modern dentistry
. Lasers were introduced into the field of Dentistry in 1960s, with the hope of overcoming some of
the drawbacks posed by the conventional methods of dental procedures.2 Conventional methods of
cavity preparation with low and high speed handpieces involve noise, uncomfortable vibrations and
stress for patients.3 These disadvantages have led to a search for new techniques as possible

Adequate education, appropriate practice and sufficient knowledge are needed to utilize different
dental technologies. Education at dental school is the most important source of professional
knowledge for the dental students as they rely and depend on the information they are provided in
dental school.9 This study provides a general view about dental laser education and knowledge
among final year dental students at Saveetha dental college. Most of the dental students know
the term laser , however, this survey in general assessed some basic knowledge of dental
students regarding the uses of laser in dentistry. Their knowledge in laser physics, different
wavelengths, different types of laser and which type of laser is most appropriate for each case
were not assessed. The specific properties of the laser radiation and applications need to be
understood in order to practice dental laser effectively and to evade therapeutic mistakes. As
reported by the 4% of students, only 3 hrs was the average time for dental laser education they got
during their study in the full 5 year dental college program. Majority of the students did not have
laser education. This reflects that inadequate

A Brief Note On The Veterans Centre ( Vc ) At Sunnybrook...
In the Veterans Centre (VC) at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre a standardized tool was
developed to assist nurses with the completion of their pre rounds documentation. However
compliance with the tool on one patient care unit is falling below the nurse manager s expectations.
Additionally, communication of the notes information by nurses during rounds is not reflecting
best practiceand critical thinking. The purpose of this paper is to outline a proposal that will aim at
improving these two aspects of professional nursing practice.
Introduction
On a biweekly basis, interprofessional team rounds are held on each unit to update the plan of care
and to discuss ways to optimize a resident s cognitive, physical, and psychosocial abilities. As the
individual who has the most interaction with the resident, nurses play a key role in communicating
to the team, the resident s overall health status. The template in Appendix A outlines the areas of
best practice that nurses are expected to be knowledgeable about with regards to their residents.
This template follows the Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation or SBAR
format, incorporates corporate best practices, and the care plan indicators from the Minimum Data
Set assessment tool. Likewise, the verbal communication of this information during rounds by the
nurses should employ aspects of best practice and critical thinking. Improvement in these two areas
has been identified and is the overall aim of this

My Life After The Athletic Banquet
The day after the Athletic Banquet brought with it puffy eyes from crying myself to sleep. As
hard as I tried, I could not seem to escape my pity party or shake the feelings of disappointment. I
enjoyed participating in sports. Every day, my heart and soul laid on the court, along with my best
effort and sportsmanship, but I understood that athletics wouldn t take me anywhere past high
school. Reason and theoretical thinking kept me from being serious about section and state
competitions, and for that reason, as well as my lack of athleticism, I seldom received playing
time, especially on varsity. Instead I discovered myself on the junior varsity teammost years, and
although most students and coaches viewed me as not good enough, I would not allow myself
to look through that lens. In my mind, JV was an opportunity. Naturally a leader, I sought to
lead the younger girls, not necessarily to scoring victories, but ones developed outside the gym;
I yearned to shape the younger athletes into better people. Determined to make my dream a
reality, I blocked out the voice that reiterated, Alli, you deserve to be on varsity. You have been
here longer than those other girls, you are talented, you have a better attitude, fight for that spot.
That voice could have killed me, but I set my eyes on the goal and was determined to reach it. By
the end of the season, our team set a record of eighteen wins and six loses, but that wasn t what
made the season worth it. That season gave me

method will also help you minimize the amount of time that you will spend pursuing potential

If you want to be successful, you need to incorporate these elements into your plans:
1. Limited Freedom People want what they can t have. If you will tell someone that a certain

The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay
The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this
life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime
components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences
affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting
and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure
Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only
component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is
considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative
margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either
normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal
Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for
long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement
predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes
increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation
embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning
nuclear piping the main degradation

Even though a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are
much more black and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to

she can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going
on. Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between
the governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the
story, the governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora
along with her to go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have
just left Flora at Bly manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However,
since the governess is new, she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things
work. Therefore, the governess probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only
way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal
instinct. A second example of the governess exercising her maternal relationship can be found on
page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene, the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check
and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my
breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply,
it was the

How Does The Prince Prospero Symbolize In The Masque Of...
Death is the only thing that time doesn t run out of. It s inescapable everybody dies, every human
goes through. Edgar Allan Poe often explored death in his stories. In Poe s The Masque of the Red
Death, he uses symbols to convey hidden messages to show that there is no running from the
inevitable like death.
Poe uses Prince Prospero to symbolize the boastful confidence of the rich. In the beginning of the
story, his people are dying from the Red Death. He decides to lock himself up with his rich
friends and leave his kingdom to die. Poe writes, When his dominions were half depopulated, he
summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light hearted friends...and with these retired to the
deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys...the external world could take care of itself . The
Prince is foolish enough to think that death is something he can hide from behind his walls. He is ...

  • 2. Fake News As An Unreliable Form Of Satire The emergence and growing population of satire holds a strong position in the definition of modern journalism. The term satire has been replaced in the mainstream by the phrase fake news . This title implies an unreliable form of storytelling meant to translate to trickery, as this form of news can hold just as much power in today s media as legitimate news outlets. Regardless of it s popularity, the word fake should not be considered accurate, nor is it true to the real meaning. Satire typically aims to entertain an audience or grab its attention in a more interesting way, while news reports capture an event simply as it was. However, both forms of news may be guilty of carrying bias in their stories, one more obviously than the other. Fake news , still a form of journalism, carries a satirical form of political commentating that is still necessary in the world of reporting, just in a different format and done for a different purpose. The success and impact of satirical news stories rely on the consumer s ability to understand this form of irony. If this effect is achieved, a story can be just as beneficial as any other form of media. Popular satirical figure John Oliver agreed with this in reference to the use of irony in relation to the viewer, stating in an interview that his job required making jokes about the news and sometimes we need to research things deeply to understand them. (Oliver, 2014). This form of storytelling is not always successful. The audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Oral History Of Oral History Rough Draft Oral History Rough Draft (After beginning the interview and gathering information I decided to switch up my questions, and narrow them down to be more specific to her personally from what I had in my oral proposal) Interviewee: Barbara Gaston Barbara Gaston was an old family/friend, who I didn t have much history on. She grew up in Cincinnati, OH. She married at age 23 and defined herself primarily as a wife and mother for the next 20 years. She was a young mother and wife, which was not untypical during this time. She was the first born of four children, and later lived in a blended household. Her father worked in copper mines, logging, and road construction. While her mother on the other hand was a stay at home mom who took care of the children and did housekeeping. They lived on what her father earned, as credit was not yet established as a way to obtain personal object and things. She explained that if a woman were to work outside of the home at this time in history, they would have held traditional gender roles such as a school teacher, nurse or secretary. • 4. The Emotional And Physical Burdens During The Vietnam War Jimmy Cross: the Emotional and Physical Burdens in the Vietnam War War has fascinated since the beginning of time for what they reveal about the human condition in its worst squalor as in its greatness. Maybe Vietnam is best seen through a shattered helicopter windshield. Chickenhawk is one bloody, painfully honest, and courageous book , recognizes Martin Cruz Smith. Chickenhawk is Robert Mason s narrative of personal experience which deals chronologically with his training in Vietnam. Through this description of war, Mason distinguishes the physical part of war and the psychological phase. He also demonstrates that the expressive aspect controls the physical. Consequently, this indication has remained intact. Tim O Brien in his fictional story The Things They Carried, voices the idea that the psychological burdens overshadow the physical pain that the soldiers must carry: They carried all the emotional baggage of men who might die. Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight (O Brien 926). O Brien claims that horror, longing, responsibility, and uncertainty that the soldiers experience outweigh the physical agony that they must resist to survive, loads that are lightened only a little by the willing to return home. The weight of mental burden that probably weighs the most on the hearts of the men is fear. In the forest of Vietnam, young soldiers are forced to carry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book is something special and should absolutely be a book you check out, and take the time out to read. Let me start by saying what a good author Heidi is. Not only is her story detailed, but her amzing planning and setup of the plot leaves my mind with all expectations fulfilled. Paradise is a promise no god bothers to keep. There s only now, and tomorrow nothing will be the same, whether we like it or not. • 16. The Importance Of Dress Codes In Schools Dress codes in schools were originally put into place to prevent students from dressing inappropriate clothes that would distract from their learning, while still allowing students to express themselves freely. However, these days, schools are enforcing dress codes that differ greatly from their original purpose. Schools shouldn t be able to enforce dress codes because they re unreasonable, they waste people s time, and they enforce sexist ideals. Among the banned articles of clothing are: logos, emblems and graphics; prints, such as flowers, stripes and plaids (Netter). On only the second day of school in August of 2009, Jacqueline Bell had both her children sent home for violating this school s new dress code. Her son had been sent home for wearing a plaid shirt, and her daughter, a pair of patterned pants. Nowadays the rules that schools enforce are extremely unreasonable, and are nearly impossible for families to follow. They re becoming more and more restrictive and, as Jacqueline had said, It s good enough to wear to church, but not to school (Netter). The way that Jacqueline had worded it was perfect in describing the state that dress codes had become. Dress codes were meant to only prevent students from wearing clothes that were deemed inappropriate for the school environment, but they can t even wear patterned outfits or shirts that go below a student s thigh. If it s acceptable for a students to wear patterned shirts in church, which is much more formal than a school, then they shouldn t have any problem wearing that exact same shirt to school. As well as being unreasonable, when a student is sent home for dress code violations, it wastes their time, as well are their parent s time. Stacie Dunn, whose daughter was sent home for an exposed collarbone, wrote this on Facebook Parents are being called away from their important jobs and students are missing important class time because they are showing their collarbones! Silver In The 18th Century Dbq Silver in the 16th century and early 18th century was a product that was widely used and traded across the world both as a currency and a feature in households and stores. The trade of silver included large scale social and economic effects that spread around the world, impacting large centralized governments such as the chinese, to smaller, less organized areas in the americas. Silver allowed the early modern age to flourish, and grow economically, socially, and in global trade. Silver had a profound effect on the global economy, for example, silver backed nearly all of Chinas economy back in the day and silver quickly became the core of China s economic life. However I believe that the point of view in this passage is slightly swayed by the fact that the author is a county official who is most likely wealthy and he may simply be referring to his own greed. In document 5 it shows how silver was eventually used as a currency and people were no longer able to keep tabs as they had to pay with silver up front. I believe the purpose of this document is important due to the growing use of silver and how it was affecting the cities that began to use it. Recently there are trails to raise this life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning nuclear piping the main degradation ... The primary uncertain element of is whether there are ghosts scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane. Even though a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are much more black and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to normal. However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way she can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going on. Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between the governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the story, the governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora along with her to go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have just left Flora at Bly manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However, since the governess is new, she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things work. Therefore, the governess probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal instinct. A second example of the governess exercising her maternal relationship can be found on page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene, the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check and see if she is alright.
