A Feminist Analysis Of Batman s Wonder Woman
Moulton created Wonder Woman to fight the ideals of hypermasculinity in the comic book
industry by introducing a character who would fight with compassion and grace rather than
brute force. At the same time, DC was trying to expand their audience to a female centric
readership. So just 2 years after Batman s introduction Wonder Woman made her first appearance
in All Star comics (1941), she got her solo series in June 1942, in the post first wave feminist era.
Wonder Woman #1 (1942) mainly focuses on Diana s origin story and the history of Amazonia,
familiarizing the reader with her character and setting out a franchise that would be revered for its
strong feminist views, but is wonder woman really the feminist icon we make her out to be? Is...

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Gettysburg Address
In a time in which the United States was facing one of its greatest crises, the President at the time,
Abraham Lincoln, delivered a speech that became one of his most famous addresses of all time.
His speech carried two primary purposes; reunification and remembrance. The structure of the
address was to remind people of the past, get them to reflect on present events, and get them
thinking about the future. He filled his words with emotion, asking the people to take the sacrifices
of brave men to heart. Abraham Lincolns desire for the reunification of the country could not have
been expressed more clearly, and emotionally than during his Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg
Address was a short piece of work that carried powerful words throughout its entire structure. In the
beginning, President Lincoln started his address with those ever famous words, Four score and
seven years ago... While these words are famous, it is the rest of the opening ...our fathers brought
forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that
all men are created equal (Lincoln) that carries the powerful message. He uses this opening to
remind those in attendance about the beginnings of their nation and their government. He then
moves on to speak about the present, speaking to the fact that the nation is currently at war with
itself. Doing this stacks on the first point, moving his audience to focus on the present issues.
Finally Abraham Lincoln goes

The History Behind The Conflict
The History Behind the Conflict
A conflict that started when the Romans invaded and conquered Judea, the homeland of the Jews,
and claimed it to be Palestine. Later on, Palestine was conquered by the Arabs. For more than a
thousand years, the Arabs have inhabited in Palestine.
With much resentment for those who stole their home of ancient times, there was the creation of
the Zionist Movement. The plan was to bring back Jews to Israel, but with the situations, they were
to overlook the large population of the Arabs located there.
In 1917, Palestine was endowed to Britain. Palestine was acknowledged as a League of Nations
mandate to construct a national home for the Jews. Resentment was now towards the Jewish
population for stealing land that the Arabs claimed as theirs. Riots were commonly repeated, and
following was a revolt. Fabricating the rivalry between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine.
In 1947, the United Nations rationed the land into states between the Arabs and the Jews. This was
not accepted by the Arabs, so a war was declared. With the Jews being victorious, they extended
their state. The Arab states still refused to recognize Israel or make an attempt to make peace.
With the Jews and the Arabs disagreeing with one another, many wars broke out, terror raids
executed, and the Israeli reprisals.

Education Is An Important Part Of Society
Education was an important part of society. Since the Cold War and the Soviet Union s successful
launch of Sputnik in October of 1957, improvements of education was necessary. In the 1960 s,
John F. Kennedy developed proposals to ensure the American education system were competitive
with students all around the world. His proposals were to ensure that every race, and religion
would receive a good education. However, not every child was receiving the same education
opportunities based on money issues surrounding them and the minority they were classified as,
the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was to ensure that these issues would be dissolve. On
January 8th of 2002, six months and one war later after George W. Bush first proposed the No
Child Left Behind bill, it was finally passed. Under the No Child Left Behind, every state was
required to develop and implement strict academic standards in reading and math. These standards
obliged by law to every student regardless of ethnicity, social class, or mental ability to ensure that
in twelve years, one hundred percent of students could demonstrate satisfactory skills (Hudson 44).
The law also required states to create their own test and assessments, to be administrated to the third
through eighth grade annually. The results of these tests determined how much funding the school
would get. If the test scores were low, the school would not get as much funds as a school with high
test score would get. Underperformance schools

The 4 Elements Of The Four Giantss Of Earth, Water And Earth
The 4 Elements
Once upon a time there were 4 giants 1 fire 1 earth 1 water and air. They all covered the great
plains of the united states. Though back then there we only mountains there. Fire was north earth
east water south and air to the west. Those 4 giants were all kings of the great plain the human
however each praised one of them and if you did not praise any you will vanish into the center of
the earth. They all lived in peace and harmony.
The mean and jealous one Fire Wanted the water part because he thought he had more power over
everyone and he took the first strike He tried to take the land of water because he thought that the
the water giant was weak and helpless but he did not know that water could put out fire and he
got drench and went back. His Troops of fire heated him up and he was helpless thinking now that
he was the weakest by being beaten by water the smallest of them all. Though he did not know he
was king of earth because he can burn it to dust.
The air was kicked out of the 4 elements because she thought she ruled over everyone like fire and
killed all her troops. The rest of the troops though kicked her out and there she was sitting at the
rocky mountains and regretting what she had done.

The Toughest Miracle In The History Of Sports
2004 ALCS: The Biggest Miracle in the History of Sports In the early to mid 2000 s, baseball
was dominated by two Major League organizations: the New York Yankees and the Boston Red
Sox. These two storied organizations have boasted a historic past, each possessing arguably the
greatest player the game has ever seen: Babe Ruth. Each of these clubs had hit their peak in the
early 2000 s, and it set up for an epic clash in the 2004 American League Championship. The
Yankees took an early three games to none lead in the best of seven game series, and all hope had
been lost throughout the Red Sox fan base. But, the Red Sox were able to turn it around through a
series of improbable events, and finished the series with a win over the Yankees, four... Show more

Once the Red Sox went down 3 0, it was contemplated throughout the sports world that the task of
beating the Yankees once was daunting enough, much less beating them four times in a row.
The Red Sox faced that specific task in Game 4 of the series, the first of their do or die games.
Going into the bottom of the 9th inning, the Red Sox were down one run. (baseball
reference.com) (Source B) The Red Sox tied the game, and the game went into extra innings.
The Yankees closer, Mariano Rivera, (considered best closer of all time) entered the game for
the Yankees. The air came out of the Red Sox fans, as it appeared it was all but over. But, leadoff
hitter Kevin Millar drew a walk. He was then pinch run for by Dave Roberts. Roberts stole 2nd
base, barely beating the throw from Yankees catcher Jorge Posada. Roberts was batted in, tying
the game for the Red Sox and sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th
inning, David Ortiz blasted the game winning home run to give the Red Sox the victory. In
order for the Red Sox to win just one game against the Yankees, they had to score a run off the
best closer of all time, last an extra three innings without losing to a high powered Yankee offense,
and hit a game winning bomb in the bottom half of the last inning. This is what it took for the
Red Sox to win one game, much less take on the demoralizing task of doing it three additional
times. To beat a team such as the Yankees four times in a row, it takes a great amount of luck,
giving it status among the greatest sports

Essay On Standing Tall
The book, Standing Tall: The Kevin Everett Story (Published in 2008) written by Sam Carchidi
is about a former NFL player overcoming a seemingly irreversible injury during his professional
career. I selected this book because it reminds me of the days when I played football in high
school and how fortunate I was to be able to walk away from the sport with no severe injuries. I
constantly read about the freak accidents in football that either left an athlete with a lifelong
injury or sometimes even death. This book stood out to me because it is about a player who went
against the odds and was able to somewhat recover from what seemed like an injury that would
have left him disabled for the rest of his life. The book begins conversation about how Kevin Everett
was entering his third year as a tight end and special team s player for the Buffalo Bills
organization with a promising future ahead of him. This was all about to change in the season
opening game for Keven against the Denver Broncos. During the opening game Kevin was
making special teams tackle after a punt to put the Broncos far back into their own territory, but
that tackle was about to change Kevin s life. After taking down the opposing player Kevin was left
in the ground motionless and not responding. Kevin was carted off the field and taken to one of the
nearest hospitals. After... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

likes a good read about someone who defeats adversity. This book has defiantly impacted me in the

Populism Movement
During the latter half of the nineteenth century, Minnesota was rampant with political discontent
(MNopedia). National movements called for shorter work days, restrictions on child labor, as well
and safer working conditions. This movement, known as populism, came from citizens want for
change. This movement would shape politics for the rest of the century. This movement would take
many forms in a number of political groups, most notably, the Grange, the Anti Monopoly Party,
and the Alliance. Populismin Minnesota can find its start in it s rural farming communities.
Farmers felt powerless to large railroad monopolies, whose wages would vary wildly as railroad
managers could charge whatever they wanted (Risjord 147). This common grievance, along
with the writings of Oliver Kelley, helped the Grange to spread. The Grange s goals were to
advance methods of farming, as well as to promote the social and economic needs to farmers in
the Midwest. The Grange movement never had major success, but in 1871 both candidates in the
state election promised state control over railroad rates (Risjord 147). This victory came with it s
own issues however, as railroads who charged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commission (MNopedia). Before this however, The
Alliance would also join the fight with the urban labor movement. With many common concerns of
farmers and factory workers, the Alliance would partner with the Knights of Labor to lobby for
broader regulation of industry (MNopedia). This partnership would become official in 1980, and it
would form the Alliance Labor Union

Japanese Internment Camps
A woman entered her makeshift home within the horse stables. The year was 1942 in Denson,
Arkansas. With only the rudimentary supplies of furniture and home goods that were miraculously
spared from disposal upon entering, the sole organization for the living space originated from a thin
curtain hung aloft between the bed and dining table. Rooms continued throughout the horse stables,
specifically known as the barracks for Japanese Americans during World War II, where
approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans were forced to evacuate the West Coast of the
Continental United Statesto reside in what were later known as internment camps. As a response to
the rising racial prejudice against Japanese immigrants (known as Issei) and their Japanese
American children (known as Nisei) and in addition to the Bombing of Pearl Harbor in December
1941, the government required Japanese civilians to stay in these camps for an undetermined
duration. Victims of the camps faced immense difficulty both by society and the camps unsanitary
environment. Before and during the Second World War, Japanese American immigrants faced racial
prejudice and assumptions of disloyalty by the United States government and Western society; once
the war ended, Japanese Americans strived to diminish racial prejudice by assimilating more into
Western society while the government took action to compensate internment victims with benefits
for their unwilling sacrifices.

Phonology Of Grammar And Syntax
Grammar and syntax are in common because with syntax you are also using grammar. Knowing
the parts of speech in grammar goes hand and hand with syntax. The parts of speech are: Nouns
(person, place, thing, or idea), Verbs (action or being), Prepositions (time, place, or position),
Adjectives (describes nouns and pronouns), Adverbs (describes verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs),
Conjunctions (join words, phrases, or sentences), Interjections (express emotion or are fillers in
sentences), and Pronouns (take the place of nouns) are very important in both syntax and grammar
(Lunsford, 2013, pp.294 302). In the tree diagram, there are also functional categories and syntactic
categories that are both grammar and syntax related.
Phonetics and Phonology Analysis Phonetics is the study of speech sounds and everything can be
measured in phonetics. The science of phonetics attempts to describe all of the sounds used in all
languages (Fromkin, 2014, p.192). Articulatory, acoustic, and auditory are all part of speech
sounds. Articulatory phonetics is the way that sounds of language are produced through the vocal
tract. Acoustic phonetics is how sound waves of the sounds that we make, and auditory phonetics
is the sound waves that are received when we hear sounds. Orthography is the way that words are
spelled and not necessarily how they are pronounced. In orthography, there can be many words
spelled different, but the sounds may sound the same. The sound of these letters can all

An Abortion in the Poem, The Mother by by Gwendolyn Brooks
The poem The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks is about the aftereffects and feelings that come
from an abortion. The woman in the poem shows remorse over the children she aborted earlier
in her life and regrets that she gave up the chance to be a mother to them. This poem, while about
a woman who chose to have abortions, still carries with it a clear pro life message. The woman in
the poem is clearly someone who feels guilt over the abortions she has had. She shows her regrets
through describing what someone will never be able to do after having an abortion. In this she
includes the bad things that mothers can do like, You will never neglect or beat/Them, or
silence or buy with a sweet, as well as those acts that people commonly associated as maternal
such as protecting the children from imaginary ghosts, You will never wind up the sucking
thumb/Or scuttle off ghosts that come. Then she switches the style she uses and instead of
talking about what happens if a person in general has an abortion, she starts to talk about herself
and her own experiences. She feels haunted by these unborn children of hers, shown from the
line, I have heard in the voices of the wind the voices of my dim killed children. These voices that
she hears aren t real and nobody but her can hear them. This is her guilt over having the abortions
manifesting itself in her mind. The wind is a metaphor for the guilt because on some days, guilt can
be stronger, more assertive, and affects her more than

Dance Of The Happy Shades
Within the collection of short stories Munro writes, Dance of the Happy Shades and Other
Stories, I would like to ask you to take another look at the story at the end of the book and the
one that takes up most of the title, Dance of the Happy Shades. All the stories in this book deal
with the main character having a sense of otherness, but this final narrative tells the otherness of a
character observed by the narrator. Within the story, I would like to present the idea that Miss
Marselles primarily, but also her sister and the children of the Greenhill School, are the ones who
have that otherness. Not only that, but they see the world in a different way from the rest of the
characters who judge them, and the biggest part of this is that Alice Munrowants us to think about
how we see others as well.
As evidence to the otherness of the children of the Greenhill School, Miss Marsalles and her
sister, the title of this story also lends itself to a piece of music played in the short story. The Dance
of the Happy Shades, says Miss Marsalles. Danse des ombres heureuses, she says, which leaves
nobody any the wiser. (Munro, pg. 223) Why does Munro feel this title has such great
importance to remind us of it on three occasions? Perhaps it is merely coincidence, or a
happenstance of the way titles work within stories. But this is a class to look into overlooked
details, so we will assume this is not the case. Upon searching for a piano piece with this name, I
could not find

An Effective Nurse Client Relationship Essay
The nurse client relationship is said to be a helping or therapeutic relationship in which the main
focus is to enhance the health and wellbeing of the patient. As stated by Harris,Nagy and Vardaxis
(as cited in Mosby s Dictionary,2008) A nurse client relationship can be defined as a therapeutic
relationship between a nurse and client built on a series of interactions and developing over time
The relationship is different from a social relationship in the way that it is only focused on the
needs of the client/patient.The relationship is goal oriented and has 3 phases which correspond to
those of Hildegard E.Peplau which are The Orientation Phase,Working Phase and The Termination
Phase.
When discussing an effective nurse client relationship many factors are incorprated in the
establishment of this relationship among these factors are positve regard, trust and interpersonal
skills.
People will forget what you say to them. They will never forget how you made them feel This direct
quote from Maya Angelou backs up the thesis that in order to establish an effective nurse client
relationship as a nurse you must display effective interpersonal skills.Interpersonal skills are vital
life skills and when used by nurses help display an ability to communicate and interact successfully
with patients/clients.
In facilitating a nurse client relationship there is a variety of different concepts we must consider
and apply in order for the nurse client relationship to be a helping and

Lewis Galoob Toys, Inc. V. Nintendo Of America
Abstract
Lewis Galoob Toys, Inc. v. Nintendo of America, Inc. (1992) was a court case which revolved
around whether the software altering a copyright protected game contributes to copyright
infringement from the fair use and creation of derivative work perspectives. Nintendo of America,
Inc. (later in this paper referred to as Nintendo) primarily markets and sells home video games
hardware systems along with compatible video game cartridges. On the other hand, Lewis Galoob

One drawback with these video games is that there is no picking up the game from the left off and
so the games had to go all the way to the beginning of the game and start new. Galoob introduced
Game genie, which when plugged into the Nintendo Entertainment system would grant the wishes
of the players by altering some of the aspects of the game. Such as, granting additional lives to
the gamer s on screen character, giving them additional magical powers, increasing the speed at
which these characters can travel. Thus, allowing the gamers to alter the game as they wish for
their personal enjoyment. However, Nintendo is not pleased with Galoob s Game genie and sued
Galoob for copyright infringement. Nintendo s argument was that Galoob has infringed its video
game copyrights by the creation of derivative work. After careful consideration of the proofs
submitted and analyzing the briefings set forth by both the parties involved, three of the four
rulings of district court favored Galoob and therefore vacated the pending preliminary infringement
injunction set forth on it for the following reasons. The court decided that Galoob is neither a
direct nor a contributory infringer under 17 U.S. Code. В§ 101, since the consumers only used
Game genie to temporarily alter the game attributes just to personalize the game as per their
preferences. Therefore, such an alteration of the game by the consumers does not contribute to the
creation of the derivative work. Even

The characters do not follow a strict guideline of good or evil but alternate according to the plot.
Howl s character is one that alternates between the main character, the hero, soulless character,
and the hopeless protagonist. He takes on a devilish form and is perceived as evil incarnate, but
at the same time, Miyazaki maintains howl s character as one who is a victim of his own
mistakes. Another character, the young boy, disguises himself as an old healer. Although he is
just a boy, he takes on the role of a guardian of the castle, a wizard apprentice, and even a healer.
The witch of the waste is at first given the role of a villain but moves on to take on that of an old
crippled woman. She is portrayed as a heartless witch whose greed led her a path of darkness, but
as her character develops, she too was a revealed to be a warm, amicable old woman. This is one

In the real world we are forced to deal with pain, sadness, and death. Everyday these are things that
we must endure on a regular basis. The joy of movies and television allows us to escape these
things. We no longer have to deal with the harshness of reality. It lets us imagine what life could be

It s like in the wizard of Oz, one would never prefer the depressing world of grey over the beauty
and magic of the colored world. Dorothy is able to escape her grey and dreary life for a world of

The beauty of entertainment is that it gets us to shed the shackles of reality. You can do anything
or be anyone. Wizard of Oz is the perfect example. Dorothy lives in a bland, grey and dreary
existence. Then she gets to encounter the world of Oz filled with creative characters, heroics, and

Does the entertainment industry pain the world in a bright light as to not remind people of
society s issues? I d tend to believe so. The real world can be harsh, filled with pain and regrets. For
two hours, or however long it is, we can escape that harsh reality and view the world in a new and
brighter light. Some times all we want to do is be Dorothy Gale who gets to leave her grey and
saddened life in Kansas. Sometimes we merely wish to travel over the rainbow way up high, and

The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras
In the 1867 story by Mark Twain titled The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras , Twain
depicts the powerful lesson of situational irony. Twain does so by focusing on the lesson that
relying on good luck can have negative consequences and can lead to ones dismay. Mark twain,
a regional writer, writes about a folk lore that takes place in Calaveras and addresses good luck
and negative consequences through a witty, funny and mocking story line. In the text Simon
Wheeler verifies that Jim Smiley was lucky and would never lose a bet. He says But still he was

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s The Danger Of A Single Story
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you (Maya Angelou). In a world
where often the majority s voice is heard, it is easy to see only one perspective. However,
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a female Nigerian writer, persuades her audience to seek knowledge
from multiple perspectives of a story. Prompted by the increasing tensions between global
populations, Adichie in The Danger of a Single Story, speaks through personal anecdotes enabling
her reader to understand the importance of analyzing and understanding multiple perspectives in
stories. Throughout the first anecdote, Adichie explains the danger associated with seeing a single
perspective of a story. First, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichieportrays the literature of her youth: All
my characters were white and blue eyed, they played in the snow, they ate apples, and they talked a
lot about the weather, how lovely it was that the sun had come out (10 12). Through the use of
white and blue eyed Adichie creates a sense of desire. By placing both words beside each other, and
emphasizing the physical descriptions of the characters, Adichie strengthens the racial hierarchy
present in western literature. This strategy causes Adichie to questionher own racial identity, making
her feel less valued than her western counterparts. In addition, the quote illustrates an
impressionable tone in which she openly accepts the non applicable western values. Similar to a
child, Adichie embraces a single perspective

Affordable Housing For Elderly Or Disabled Persons Essay
Affordable housing for elderly or disabled persons The United States government provides housing
assistance for the elderly or disabled with low income statues through various programs in the form
of rental assistance or affordable housing. However, most of these governments housing assistance
for the disabled or elderly persons are managed through the local public housing authorities (PHAs).
Several other agencies providing the same government benefits includes the local Department of
Housing and Community Development, the individual State Housing Finance Agencies and the
Rural Development offices through the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA). Additionally,
some financial aid channeled toward the housing assistance programs are retrieved from the U.S
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as well as the USDA s Rural Housing
Services. Within this paper, several aspects of the housing policy for the disabled and the elderly
persons will be delved into in brooder details. One major characteristic of the government housing
aid for the elderly persons is that they are overly subscribed with waiting lists that differ in length.
Currently, the government housing assistance accessible to elderly persons with low income status
include: the Housing Choice Voucher Program, the HOPE for elderly independence program, the
Rural Housing Services Rental Assistance Program, Local Rental Assistance Programs and the
Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program.

How Pipes Can Help Confirm The Identity Of A Damaged Vessel
Pipes are often found at underwater archaeological sites and can provide valuable information,
regardless of their condition. Broken pipes can provide similar information to those found still
fully intact based on key features, as long as they are still preserved enough to identify. Based on
such key features, the origins of pipes can be traced back to their manufacturers, determining
both where they came from and the time period during which they were made. Because of this,
pipes can be used to help confirm the identity of a wrecked ship; pipes may be from the same
country as the wreck and be used as evidence to support claims of the origin of the ship, or from a
different country or region entirely, indicating some form of trade or... Show more content on

Also, with the ability to date these pipes, it can be possible to date the ship as well. By knowing
the relative date and origin of the ship, and if the pipes can be related to historical documents, there
is potential to positively identify the ship and support the claim.
Mediterranean and Ottoman style pipes are markedly different from their northern European
counterparts, allowing for distinctions to be made between different pipe making traditions. Pipe
smoking, concerning tobacco in particular, was popular within the Balkans, and evidence suggests
that it may have been practiced as early as the end of the sixteenth century (Batchvarov 3).
Conversely, it has also been argued the English introduced tobacco smoking at the start of the
seventeenth century (Batchvarov 3). Stub stemmed or reed pipes were popular in this area, as the
remains of many were found in harbors in the waters of Malta. This style of pipe is commonly
found in association with inhabited areas and trade routes across the Ottoman Empire (Wood 315).
Of these pipes originating from the Mediterranean that were discovered at a site in Dockyard
Creek, Birgu, many had a keel joint between the bowl and shank, a feature which begins in the
late 17th early 18th century (Wood 317). Due to this feature, it is possible to roughly date these
pipes, as they could not be from a time period

The Middle Phase Of Learning
In Queensland schools, the Middle Phase of Learning is a distinct period for students in the Year
4 to Year 9 cohorts. It is divided into two phases. The onset of the Middle Phase of Learning is a
time of transition, many learners are keen to discover and investigate an extensive range of learning
experiences. However, some learners begin to lose interest and progress in learning may diminish.
The subsequent phase for learners, is filled with challenges. Physical, emotional, intellectual and
social issues can impact upon students learning. For learners to be prepared for the senior phase of
learning, student s curiosity and enthusiasm must be nurtured and further opportunities provided to
enable learners to gain knowledge and skills if progress slows. (http://education.qld.gov.au/etrf/pdf
/midaction03.pdf)
During this phase, learners are shifting from concrete to abstract thinking and have emergent
capacity for higher order analysis and reflection. They are also moving towards more rational
decision making and an improved understanding of the consequences of behaviour.
Middle Phase learners have an increasing interest in ethical and moral enquiries and exploring real
world social issues. For many students, the transition from primary to secondary school can be
stimulating and stress free, while others feel fearful and hesitant as they have a powerful need to
belong and accepted by their peers. Subsequently, Middle Phase learners strive to be independent,

The Russ Celebration Essay
We live in a globalized yet diverse world where people want to hold on to their unique culture and
traditions. Christians celebrate Christmas; Muslims celebrate Eid. One of the most important
events in the Spanish society is the grand Tomatina Festival, where participants throw tomatoes at
each other. In India, people celebrate the spring festival, Holi, by coloring each other s faces and
clothes with dry powder and colored water. While graduation is a huge event in the US, whether it

of Norway requires the bus drives to be a non Russ. Sometimes, the students make the drive park
in the middle of the road; they climb up to the roof of the bus, play loud music, drink bottles of

Schools start the russ celebration anytime from April 11th to April 17th and it lasts until May

Causality, Hume, and Quantum Mechanics Essay
Causality, Hume, and Quantum Mechanics
It is my intention, in the course of this essay, to take the work of David Hume and reapply it to
causality using quantum mechanical theory.
When I refer to causality, I am referring to the belief that events have a relationship of action A
causing action B where A is considered to be the final cause of B. I also refer to the belief that we
can know and understand these causal relationships and thusly know how the system works.
This is a concept that I do not agree with. This mechanistic causality, I feel, is a category of the
mind.
I wish to make it clear, before I begin, that I am not questioning the idea that cause/effect
interactions do occur in reality. I am, however,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of saying, I dropped the egg, it broke because of that action, one would say or think, The
event of the egg breaking is an event preceded by an acceleration downward toward the floor. That
event is preceded by a slip of my hand, or some external force. The event of the slip is preceded
by a distracting thought and/or a moistening of my hand from contact with a wet surface, or by
neither event. The event of the distracting thought being preceded by a memory of meeting an
attractive person and/or having too much coffee, or by neither event. The event of the moist hand
being preceded by failing to wipe the counter properly and/or inadequate drying of my hands, or
by neither event. To be thorough, each of these strings of events would have to be traced back
through each branch and go back until one finally reaches the beginning of each string of events,
the beginning of the universe, if there is one.
But even this examination of events is not sufficient to describe all that goes on in this event. Each
portion of the causal mechanism is divisible within itself into internal causes.
Take the slip of the hand as an example. Some internal firing of neurons resulted in the slip of the
hand. To be thorough, we

Eitzen (2012) describes sport to be a rule bound activity that should promote fair play,
sportsmanship, and hard work, but there have been many unwritten rules, in particular within the
sport of tennis that do the opposite effect. Within tennis, players that self referee their own
matches are required to make lines calls and should give their opponent the benefit of the doubt
when unsure of where the ball landed. When an opponent or parent chants loudly this in turn can
get inside a players head giving the opponent a psychological advantage. As a player competing in
tennis, an opponent would stomp their feet loudly on the ground creating an impression that they
were coming to the net, creating an unfair tactic in the eyes of the other player. As Stewart (2014)
stated, if a player wants to win at any cost, rules and structures can be disregarded, creating an
unfair victory for the opponent. Crone (1999) stated that an athlete focusing on the end result or a
win at all costs attitude, there then becomes a de emphasis on the process that in turn leads to less

Analysis of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
The word Inspector suggests someone who looks closely at things, and this is his role in the
events of the play. This, and the fact that Priestly recognised the Birlings would almost certainly
have refused to be questioned by a common policeman, is probably the reason why the person to
bring the news of Eva/Daisy s death is portrayed as an inspector.

character. The Inspectors name Goole sounds the same as ghoul someone with a morbid interest

He often plays the voice of conscience, his familiarity with what each character has done goes
beyond what any investigator might reasonably be expected to know. Things that they concealed
from eachother even from themselves are brought to surface at the Inspectors insistence. Priestley
intentionally leaves the provenance of the figure of the Inspector unexplained, his real identity a
mystery. This is more effective than any clarification would have been because to reveal that the
Inspector was, for example, a practical joker ( as the Birlings hope) or that he was a sort of
avenging spirit would ruin the effect the Inspector has on the audience.
The effect the Inspector has on the audience is as important as the effect he has on the characters in
the play. This is because of what he represents; the conscience of not only the characters but of also
the audience.
Through the Inspector Priestley presents us, the audience, with a sincerely felt and powerfully
expressed social message. We are shown the comfortable home and rich way of life of the Birling
family. By contrast, we have the accounts of the desperate attempts of Birlings factory workers
to increase their poor wages, and the drab and sordid life that Eva/ Dais is forced to lead as a result
of the actions of people such as the Birlings. Priestleys compassion for the lower and

Carrie Reinhard asserts that women do not feel comfortable playing as hypersexualized female
protagonists in video games, because the video game industry provides characters modeling a
body they cannot achieve, more an object for the male gaze than female empowerment
(Reinhard. 6). Personally, seeing the sunflower with the big breasts did not encourage me to
feel empowered. I felt weak and insecure because of the stereotypes of women that are
illuminated within video games. Video games represent women as a typical damsel in distress,
whereas men are viewed as the hero (Brenick et. al. 3). Although, providing female protagonists
in video games were supposed to appeal to more women, it subsequently discouraged women
from playing video games. Video games do not only hypersexualize women. Although, researches
have noted for years that most video games target a male audience (Ivory. 2), the
hypersexualization of men in video games has taken a toll on their players (Greenberg et al. 3).
Mass media that display hypersexualized men, and women, such as video games, not only
encourages women to become anorexic, it encourages men to take steroids, or to excessively
exercise (Barlett et al. 1). Researchers, Barlett, and Harris conducted an experiment in which both
men and women were immersed within a video game, that depicted both women and men as
hypersexualized (ibid).

Induction is a form of reasoning where the premises offer convincing evidence, but not absolute
for the truth of the conclusion. We trace our beliefs, which are based in our observations of the

be ideal. At this stage in the relationship, most of my shyness will no longer be evident, as I would
know the potential benefactor very well. After gaining an adequate level of confidence and comfort
to be able to successfully solicit the major gift I would arrange a meeting with the potential
benefactor.
In setting up the meeting, I would be sure to express that the purpose of the meeting is for us to,
invite their philanthropic support for an important organizational project (Hodge, n.d., p.12). Also,
the ideal meeting location would either the home of the potential benefactor or the donor s place of
business, whichever potential benefactor is more comfortable with (Hodge, n.d., p.12).
At the meeting, we will begin with casual conversation as a way to show our interest in the
potential benefactor, but to also calm some of my nerves. After a bit of conversation, we will
introduce the reason for the meeting (Dove, n.d., p.11). First, we will clearly explain the project
and the benefits that their support will provide our clients, along with some of our personal stories
/commitments that highlight our passion for the cause (Hodge, n.d., p. 13). Throughout our

Halo Vs Call Of Duty
Call of Duty and Halo are both FPS games. They might look similar but they each have its own
story and playability. Not to mention some other game modes each game has. In my opinion having
another thing to play in the same game is important because I makes you want to play more the
game.
Call of Duty is a fist person shooter video game franchise. This series began on Microsoft Windows
and later on it expanded to consoles. At first they were primarily set in World at War ll, including
Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 3. Starting with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,
which takes place in a modern times. The series has shifted its focus from World War ll. Modern
Warfare, released in 2007, was followed by World at War and Modern Warfare 2. Black Ops
released in 2010, takes place in cold war, while Modern Warfare 3 released in 2011 takes place in a

that game mode zombies. Since that Treyarch has added this game mode to every titled they made.
Giving this game mod a history and story line, also included the famous easter eggs that gave this
mode that story.
After Treyarch made this game mode, Infinite Warfare and Sledgehammer Games wanted to test
the luck that Treyarch had and they made their own mode trying to copy Treyarch s zombies but
In my opinion they are not as good as the original. Treyarch also owns another game mod named
call of duty arcade, basically its in third person and you have to survive to hordes of zombies and
advancing until you beat all the levels. This game mode is only on the titles, call of duty black ops

The Impact of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones Upon...
The Impact of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones Upon Music During the 1960 s
The Beatles were a new band with a difference and this led to their impact in the sixties. They were
different because they were producing real music and stepping away from sounding like just
another band trying to imitate American stars . Beatles music was totally unique, a mixture of rock
and roll, Rhythm and Blues and Tamla Motown . British music had always been dominated from
American produced goods but the Beatles introduced abit of their own lives into their music. They
talked about where they grew up Penny Lane and brought back some real music for British
teenagers, something they could relate to. The Beatles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their fan base developed quickly and created Beatlemania by the start of the mid sixties. When
they appeared on stage all the girls started screaming , a few fainted and from this we can see
that Beatlemania brought about insania. The Beatles were so exposed to the public by doing
numerous tours 32 shows in 24 cities within 34 days that this increased their popularity. Mainly
girls would follow them to airports and on tours. My teacher told me that girls would often bunk
school to go see the Beatles . When on tours they developed a dynamic stage presence and
stunned British audience . On a video I watched I could see that they were welcomed by crowds
of rampaging fans everywhere they went . They had a great impact on people as hysteria
heightened. By 1964 they were making more money from merchandise then from music because
people brought into the commercial side of the band. After visits to America their 16 bedsheets and
eight pillowcasesГў?В¦were sold to two Chicago businessmen for $750. It seemed people just
couldn t get enough of the Beatles they wanted anything and everything touched by them. They
were role models. The sheer personality that The Beatles exuded on and off stage, as much as to do
with their musical style or material made them extremely popular worldwide.

Why Is Secrecy Important In The Scarlet Letter
Secrecy is the key to survival when surrounded by a scornful community that is ready to pounce on
anyone s sinful past. Concealment of one s feelings not only protects one s weaknesses but also
helps in avoiding conflicts with society. Many characters in The Scarlet Letter, particularly Hester,
Dimmesdale, and Chillingworth, hide their feelings in order to keep their dark pasts from the
grasps of both each other and the Puritan society that aches to condemn the sins of criminals. In
order to create suspense throughout the story and emphasize the importance of secrecy, Nathaniel
Hawthornehides the pasts of his obscure characters from not only the Puritan society within The
Scarlet Letterbut also from the community outside the novel: the readers. Although it is apparent...

However, the audience is never told what clues Chillingworth uncovers. In fact, Chillingworth s
thought processes are never revealed to us. For example, when he catches a glimpse of
Dimmesdale s chest in his house, the audience is not told of what he has seen. Even when
Dimmesdale reveals his chest to the Puritan crowd at the end of the novel to confess his secret
sin, the audience is still not told of what is on the chest. Interestingly, the crowd holds a variety
of accounts on what was on Dimmesdale s chest. Some say that there was a scarlet letter
imprinted on his chest while others deny that there was any mark whatever on his breast, more
than on a new born infant s, (236). We are only able to infer that there is some sort of A on
Dimmesdale s chest because he tells Hester, Happy are you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter
openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! (176). Hawthorne keeps the audience confused with
the ambiguity of Dimmesdale s confession by keeping the Puritan crowd disconcerted with the
different accounts of the

Fathers In Anney s Bastard Out Of Carolina
The role of a parent is a strange, yet all too familiar tradition that is the same within every culture.
A child is born from procreation, and then raised within a family system usually made up of the
biological parents. The goal as a parent is to raise this infant into adulthood by providing them
encouragement, support, and teaching them the necessary skills for life. Seems very black and
white, correct? What happens when a parentknows they cannot provide these necessities for the
child? In the novel, Bastard Out of Carolina, Anney knew she could not provide a secure life for
Bone, and therefore abandoned her child to live her own life.
From Bone s point of view, readers can gather that Anney is a hard working, strong, and caring
mother. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anney becomes a single mother very young, having Bone at age fifteen, and then remarries to
Lyle Parsons with a new baby by nineteen. The new couple give each other pet names, respect
each other, and Lyle, though childish, promises to adopt Bone when they have the money (6).
Unfortunately, Lyle dies in an accident and Anney is forced yet again to be a single mother with
two girls. It is really no surprise that Anney looks at men with the thought of how fit they would
be as a husband to her. He d make a good daddy, she imagined, a steady man... I need a husband,
she thought, turned her back, and wiped her face. Yeah, and a car and a home and a hundred
thousand dollars (13). Notice how Anney associates a husband or a father for her children to the
other needs of her life. She does not want a husband per se, but she needs one to help provide a
stable life for her children. Anney s third husband, Glen, appears to be all of these things at first,
while satisfying her sexual needs as well. Because Glen has ...got a horse dick, the men joke that
no woman would ever leave Daddy Glen (62). And Anney never does leave Glen even though he
throws tantrums, cannot keep a job, beats and eventually brutally rapes Bone as well. Anney
possibly stays with Glen because of how she was brought up in the Boatwright

How Are Literary Devices Used In The Black Cat
The use of literary device is a vital part to Edgar Allan Poe s stories. They help show the meaning
of the short story and give information that is important to the narrative. Without any literary
device it will leave readers confused and wondering why certain things occurred. The Black Cat is a
perfect example of the use of literary device. Black cats have long been considered a symbol of bad

Genetic Essentialism In Gattaca
Gattaca deals with several philosophical issues: Genetically engineering humans, genetic privacy,
and discrimination, and genetic essentialism/determinism. For this paper, I would like to focus on
genetic essentialism/determinism. I would also like to posit that genetic essentialism is a form of
discrimination which has the possibility of denying a child s right to an open future.
First, this film has a personal appeal to me, but you will been a little background to understand
why. When I first saw Gattacain a movie theater in 1997 my struggles to exceed in life were still
very real to me. I identified strongly with Vincent and his struggles. His struggles were my
struggles. Not because I was discriminated against because of my genes. In 1997, genetic testing
was not an issue. However, I was discriminated against, and my future was prognosticated at a very
early age. I have a learning disability. It would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I did know, however, is that it felt wrong not to give Vincent a fair opportunity to pursue
his dreams because of his genes and the mistaken belief that our genes can prognosticate what
type of person we will become in the future. I felt that if a test, given to me in grade school, was
so wrong at predicting my abilities in the future, then how accurate can blood or genetic test at birth
be? I cheered for Vincent. I saw nothing wrong about Vincent cheating to exceed. After all, the way,
I saw it, the system was unfairly stacked against him.
In Gattaca, Andrew Niccol confronts us, through Vincent s struggles, with a utopian society of
humans whose lives were based solely on their genetic constitution. The Gattaca society was
portrayed as a modern, liberal, and industrialized society where the use of genetic engineering was
offered as a personal service to couples so they may choose their offspring traits. The use of genetic
engineering was voluntary and not a state directed or mandated

Sally should use the information given to start an investigation, though not publicly, into the issues
pointed out by Rick. She should go about it by asking one of the other students about the party but
should ask in a way that does not arouse suspicion from the students or Bill. She should do this
immediately to get ahead of the possibility of being beaten to the punch when the principal gets
wind of the situation. Waiting would only make things harder to explain to any person in authority
who gets wind of the actions of Bill.
Should Sally have gone directly to Bill to hear his side of the story or to confront him?
Being Sally s colleague, Bill should be given a chance to give his side of the story. Sally should,
however, wait before immediately confronting Bill. This is because he would immediately know
that it was Rick who told on him and based on his current situation, it would have been
unpredictable on what he would do. Confronting him after he denies the allegations after Sally has
conducted some investigations would suggest he was guilty of the charges and Sally would have to
take it up with the principal.
What should Sally tell Rick?
Sally should be grateful that Rick has come forward and has given her sometime to get ahead of
this before it became bad. Sally should tell Rick to remain quiet for some time to let her conduct
investigations and be ready to come forward to tell the

Layers Of The Skin Essay
The skin is one of the most important organs of the body because it protects the
body from outer dangers, like, bacteria that can cause infections. There are many
structures that compose the skin, such as, the epidermis layer is the first layer of the
skin that is made of keratinized stratified squamous epithelial cells and has no blood
supply, and therefore it gets its nutrients through diffusion. This layer has many layers
before it reaches the second layer of the skin. The deepest layer is called the stratum
basale, this layer has a row of stem cells that are the most mitotic and nourished out of

The second deepest layer is called stratum spinosum, which is
composed of cells that contain thick intermediate filaments made from pre keratin
proteins that connect to desmosomes. In this layer the keratinocytes develop a spike

also gets nourishment, but not as much as the basal layer, so when the keratinocytes
move to next layer of the epidermis they will slowly die until they get to the most
superficial layer, there they will become dead cells. The next layer of the epidermis is
the second superficial layer compared to the two deepest layers and it is called the
stratum granulosum. In this layer the keratinocyte go through a process called
keratinization, this is when the keratinocytes start getting filled with nothing but keratin
and they start to get flat. During this process, the keratinocytes organelles break down
and there are two type of granules that are taken in, which are lamellar granules that

  • 3. A Feminist Analysis Of Batman s Wonder Woman Moulton created Wonder Woman to fight the ideals of hypermasculinity in the comic book industry by introducing a character who would fight with compassion and grace rather than brute force. At the same time, DC was trying to expand their audience to a female centric readership. So just 2 years after Batman s introduction Wonder Woman made her first appearance in All Star comics (1941), she got her solo series in June 1942, in the post first wave feminist era. Wonder Woman #1 (1942) mainly focuses on Diana s origin story and the history of Amazonia, familiarizing the reader with her character and setting out a franchise that would be revered for its strong feminist views, but is wonder woman really the feminist icon we make her out to be? • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Gettysburg Address In a time in which the United States was facing one of its greatest crises, the President at the time, Abraham Lincoln, delivered a speech that became one of his most famous addresses of all time. His speech carried two primary purposes; reunification and remembrance. The structure of the address was to remind people of the past, get them to reflect on present events, and get them thinking about the future. He filled his words with emotion, asking the people to take the sacrifices of brave men to heart. Abraham Lincolns desire for the reunification of the country could not have been expressed more clearly, and emotionally than during his Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg Address was a short piece of work that carried powerful words throughout its entire structure. In the beginning, President Lincoln started his address with those ever famous words, Four score and seven years ago... While these words are famous, it is the rest of the opening ...our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal (Lincoln) that carries the powerful message. He uses this opening to remind those in attendance about the beginnings of their nation and their government. He then moves on to speak about the present, speaking to the fact that the nation is currently at war with itself. Doing this stacks on the first point, moving his audience to focus on the present issues. Finally Abraham Lincoln goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Later on, Palestine was conquered by the Arabs. For more than a thousand years, the Arabs have inhabited in Palestine. With much resentment for those who stole their home of ancient times, there was the creation of the Zionist Movement. The plan was to bring back Jews to Israel, but with the situations, they were to overlook the large population of the Arabs located there. In 1917, Palestine was endowed to Britain. Palestine was acknowledged as a League of Nations mandate to construct a national home for the Jews. Resentment was now towards the Jewish population for stealing land that the Arabs claimed as theirs. Riots were commonly repeated, and following was a revolt. Fabricating the rivalry between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine. In 1947, the United Nations rationed the land into states between the Arabs and the Jews. This was not accepted by the Arabs, so a war was declared. With the Jews being victorious, they extended their state. Since the Cold War and the Soviet Union s successful launch of Sputnik in October of 1957, improvements of education was necessary. In the 1960 s, John F. Kennedy developed proposals to ensure the American education system were competitive with students all around the world. His proposals were to ensure that every race, and religion would receive a good education. However, not every child was receiving the same education opportunities based on money issues surrounding them and the minority they were classified as, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was to ensure that these issues would be dissolve. On January 8th of 2002, six months and one war later after George W. Bush first proposed the No Child Left Behind bill, it was finally passed. Under the No Child Left Behind, every state was required to develop and implement strict academic standards in reading and math. These standards obliged by law to every student regardless of ethnicity, social class, or mental ability to ensure that in twelve years, one hundred percent of students could demonstrate satisfactory skills (Hudson 44). The law also required states to create their own test and assessments, to be administrated to the third through eighth grade annually. The results of these tests determined how much funding the school would get. If the test scores were low, the school would not get as much funds as a school with high test score would get. The Toughest Miracle In The History Of Sports 2004 ALCS: The Biggest Miracle in the History of Sports In the early to mid 2000 s, baseball was dominated by two Major League organizations: the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. These two storied organizations have boasted a historic past, each possessing arguably the greatest player the game has ever seen: Babe Ruth. Each of these clubs had hit their peak in the early 2000 s, and it set up for an epic clash in the 2004 American League Championship. The Yankees took an early three games to none lead in the best of seven game series, and all hope had been lost throughout the Red Sox fan base. The Red Sox faced that specific task in Game 4 of the series, the first of their do or die games. Going into the bottom of the 9th inning, the Red Sox were down one run. (baseball reference.com) (Source B) The Red Sox tied the game, and the game went into extra innings. The Yankees closer, Mariano Rivera, (considered best closer of all time) entered the game for the Yankees. The air came out of the Red Sox fans, as it appeared it was all but over. But, leadoff hitter Kevin Millar drew a walk. He was then pinch run for by Dave Roberts. Roberts stole 2nd base, barely beating the throw from Yankees catcher Jorge Posada. Roberts was batted in, tying the game for the Red Sox and sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th inning, David Ortiz blasted the game winning home run to give the Red Sox the victory. In order for the Red Sox to win just one game against the Yankees, they had to score a run off the best closer of all time, last an extra three innings without losing to a high powered Yankee offense, and hit a game winning bomb in the bottom half of the last inning. This is what it took for the Red Sox to win one game, much less take on the demoralizing task of doing it three additional times. • 9. Essay On Standing Tall The book, Standing Tall: The Kevin Everett Story (Published in 2008) written by Sam Carchidi is about a former NFL player overcoming a seemingly irreversible injury during his professional career. I selected this book because it reminds me of the days when I played football in high school and how fortunate I was to be able to walk away from the sport with no severe injuries. I constantly read about the freak accidents in football that either left an athlete with a lifelong injury or sometimes even death. This book stood out to me because it is about a player who went against the odds and was able to somewhat recover from what seemed like an injury that would have left him disabled for the rest of his life. The book begins conversation about how Kevin Everett was entering his third year as a tight end and special team s player for the Buffalo Bills organization with a promising future ahead of him. This was all about to change in the season opening game for Keven against the Denver Broncos. During the opening game Kevin was making special teams tackle after a punt to put the Broncos far back into their own territory, but that tackle was about to change Kevin s life. After taking down the opposing player Kevin was left in the ground motionless and not responding. Kevin was carted off the field and taken to one of the nearest hospitals. After... • 11. Populism Movement During the latter half of the nineteenth century, Minnesota was rampant with political discontent (MNopedia). National movements called for shorter work days, restrictions on child labor, as well and safer working conditions. This movement, known as populism, came from citizens want for change. This movement would shape politics for the rest of the century. This movement would take many forms in a number of political groups, most notably, the Grange, the Anti Monopoly Party, and the Alliance. Populismin Minnesota can find its start in it s rural farming communities. Farmers felt powerless to large railroad monopolies, whose wages would vary wildly as railroad managers could charge whatever they wanted (Risjord 147). This common grievance, along with the writings of Oliver Kelley, helped the Grange to spread. The Grange s goals were to advance methods of farming, as well as to promote the social and economic needs to farmers in the Midwest. The Grange movement never had major success, but in 1871 both candidates in the state election promised state control over railroad rates (Risjord 147). • 12. Japanese Internment Camps A woman entered her makeshift home within the horse stables. The year was 1942 in Denson, Arkansas. With only the rudimentary supplies of furniture and home goods that were miraculously spared from disposal upon entering, the sole organization for the living space originated from a thin curtain hung aloft between the bed and dining table. Rooms continued throughout the horse stables, specifically known as the barracks for Japanese Americans during World War II, where approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans were forced to evacuate the West Coast of the Continental United Statesto reside in what were later known as internment camps. As a response to the rising racial prejudice against Japanese immigrants (known as Issei) and their Japanese American children (known as Nisei) and in addition to the Bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the government required Japanese civilians to stay in these camps for an undetermined duration. Victims of the camps faced immense difficulty both by society and the camps unsanitary environment. Before and during the Second World War, Japanese American immigrants faced racial prejudice and assumptions of disloyalty by the United States government and Western society; once the war ended, Japanese Americans strived to diminish racial prejudice by assimilating more into Western society while the government took action to compensate internment victims with benefits for their unwilling sacrifices. • 14. Phonology Of Grammar And Syntax Grammar and syntax are in common because with syntax you are also using grammar. Knowing the parts of speech in grammar goes hand and hand with syntax. The parts of speech are: Nouns (person, place, thing, or idea), Verbs (action or being), Prepositions (time, place, or position), Adjectives (describes nouns and pronouns), Adverbs (describes verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs), Conjunctions (join words, phrases, or sentences), Interjections (express emotion or are fillers in sentences), and Pronouns (take the place of nouns) are very important in both syntax and grammar (Lunsford, 2013, pp.294 302). In the tree diagram, there are also functional categories and syntactic categories that are both grammar and syntax related. Phonetics and Phonology Analysis Phonetics is the study of speech sounds and everything can be measured in phonetics. The science of phonetics attempts to describe all of the sounds used in all languages (Fromkin, 2014, p.192). Articulatory, acoustic, and auditory are all part of speech sounds. Articulatory phonetics is the way that sounds of language are produced through the vocal tract. Acoustic phonetics is how sound waves of the sounds that we make, and auditory phonetics is the sound waves that are received when we hear sounds. • 15. An Abortion in the Poem, The Mother by by Gwendolyn Brooks The poem The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks is about the aftereffects and feelings that come from an abortion. The woman in the poem shows remorse over the children she aborted earlier in her life and regrets that she gave up the chance to be a mother to them. This poem, while about a woman who chose to have abortions, still carries with it a clear pro life message. The woman in the poem is clearly someone who feels guilt over the abortions she has had. She shows her regrets through describing what someone will never be able to do after having an abortion. In this she includes the bad things that mothers can do like, You will never neglect or beat/Them, or silence or buy with a sweet, as well as those acts that people commonly associated as maternal such as protecting the children from imaginary ghosts, You will never wind up the sucking thumb/Or scuttle off ghosts that come. Then she switches the style she uses and instead of talking about what happens if a person in general has an abortion, she starts to talk about herself and her own experiences. She feels haunted by these unborn children of hers, shown from the line, I have heard in the voices of the wind the voices of my dim killed children. These voices that she hears aren t real and nobody but her can hear them. This is her guilt over having the abortions manifesting itself in her mind. • 16. Dance Of The Happy Shades Within the collection of short stories Munro writes, Dance of the Happy Shades and Other Stories, I would like to ask you to take another look at the story at the end of the book and the one that takes up most of the title, Dance of the Happy Shades. All the stories in this book deal with the main character having a sense of otherness, but this final narrative tells the otherness of a character observed by the narrator. Within the story, I would like to present the idea that Miss Marselles primarily, but also her sister and the children of the Greenhill School, are the ones who have that otherness. Not only that, but they see the world in a different way from the rest of the characters who judge them, and the biggest part of this is that Alice Munrowants us to think about how we see others as well. As evidence to the otherness of the children of the Greenhill School, Miss Marsalles and her sister, the title of this story also lends itself to a piece of music played in the short story. The Dance of the Happy Shades, says Miss Marsalles. Danse des ombres heureuses, she says, which leaves nobody any the wiser. (Munro, pg. 223) Why does Munro feel this title has such great importance to remind us of it on three occasions? Perhaps it is merely coincidence, or a happenstance of the way titles work within stories. But this is a class to look into overlooked details, so we will assume this is not the case. Upon searching for a piano piece with this name, I could not find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Effective Nurse Client Relationship Essay The nurse client relationship is said to be a helping or therapeutic relationship in which the main focus is to enhance the health and wellbeing of the patient. As stated by Harris,Nagy and Vardaxis (as cited in Mosby s Dictionary,2008) A nurse client relationship can be defined as a therapeutic relationship between a nurse and client built on a series of interactions and developing over time The relationship is different from a social relationship in the way that it is only focused on the needs of the client/patient.The relationship is goal oriented and has 3 phases which correspond to those of Hildegard E.Peplau which are The Orientation Phase,Working Phase and The Termination Phase. When discussing an effective nurse client relationship many factors are incorprated in the establishment of this relationship among these factors are positve regard, trust and interpersonal skills. People will forget what you say to them. They will never forget how you made them feel This direct quote from Maya Angelou backs up the thesis that in order to establish an effective nurse client relationship as a nurse you must display effective interpersonal skills.Interpersonal skills are vital life skills and when used by nurses help display an ability to communicate and interact successfully with patients/clients. One drawback with these video games is that there is no picking up the game from the left off and so the games had to go all the way to the beginning of the game and start new. Galoob introduced Game genie, which when plugged into the Nintendo Entertainment system would grant the wishes of the players by altering some of the aspects of the game. Such as, granting additional lives to the gamer s on screen character, giving them additional magical powers, increasing the speed at which these characters can travel. Thus, allowing the gamers to alter the game as they wish for their personal enjoyment. However, Nintendo is not pleased with Galoob s Game genie and sued Galoob for copyright infringement. Nintendo s argument was that Galoob has infringed its video game copyrights by the creation of derivative work. After careful consideration of the proofs submitted and analyzing the briefings set forth by both the parties involved, three of the four rulings of district court favored Galoob and therefore vacated the pending preliminary infringement injunction set forth on it for the following reasons. The court decided that Galoob is neither a direct nor a contributory infringer under 17 U.S. Code. In a world where often the majority s voice is heard, it is easy to see only one perspective. However, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a female Nigerian writer, persuades her audience to seek knowledge from multiple perspectives of a story. Prompted by the increasing tensions between global populations, Adichie in The Danger of a Single Story, speaks through personal anecdotes enabling her reader to understand the importance of analyzing and understanding multiple perspectives in stories. Throughout the first anecdote, Adichie explains the danger associated with seeing a single perspective of a story. First, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichieportrays the literature of her youth: All my characters were white and blue eyed, they played in the snow, they ate apples, and they talked a lot about the weather, how lovely it was that the sun had come out (10 12). Through the use of white and blue eyed Adichie creates a sense of desire. By placing both words beside each other, and emphasizing the physical descriptions of the characters, Adichie strengthens the racial hierarchy present in western literature. This strategy causes Adichie to questionher own racial identity, making her feel less valued than her western counterparts. In addition, the quote illustrates an impressionable tone in which she openly accepts the non applicable western values. Similar to a child, Adichie embraces a single perspective ...
