Les Miserable Quotes
In the book les miserable written by Victor Hugo it talks about Val jeans life and how one crime can
change a man s life forever. Because Val jean continually seeks freedom and forgiveness for his past
crimes he is never truly happy. The crime of theft has an unrealistic punishment and leaves a man who
feels he is innocent on the run. Val jean was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing one piece of
bread. After he gets out of prison he is never truly free again he is always looking over his shoulder or
reminded of the crime he once committed. The determination and want that Val jean has to be free
again pushes him so far as to take his own life.
Freedom is a big part in the life of Val jean. In the book his life doesn t have much freedom due to the
situation, timing, and luck that Val jean has his Freedom is limited. A soul for a piece of bread. Misery
makes the offer; society accepts. (p.187) This quote from the book shows that after Val jean
committed the crime everyone looked down at him and thought of him as less than a person but a ...

Val jean seems extremely apologetic and takes advantage of any opportunity to make things right. In
less than two hours, all the good he had done was forgotten. (p. 295) This quote can be symbolized by
the scene in the movie when Val jean has been confronted by Javert and then Val jean runs. This
shows that he has been a leader in disguise. When he was in disguise everyone loved what he was
doing but as a criminal they hated his every action. Javert in the book Les miserable knew who Val
jean was due to their past experiences at the prison. Victor Hugo did this in order to show how the
community looked at criminals. But Val jean should have spoken up and said how corrupt the justice
system was. Not being heard is no reason for silence. (p. 296) This quote tells us how not speaking up
can be just as bad as not saying

The Boeing 7e7
The Boeing 7E7
WACC Estimation
In order to evaluate the prospective IRRs from the Boeing 7E7, we first try to estimate an appropriate
required rate of return for accepting this project. The capital asset pricing model is applied to estimate
the cost of equity of the commercial aircraft division:
R_EC= β_EC*(R_M R_f )+R_f where REC is the cost of equity capital of the commercial aircraft
division. βEC is the beta for the commercial division of Boeing. This beta is used instead of the
company s overall beta is because the 7E7 project is a project on the commercial aircraft section. It
will help to improve the evaluation process when comparing the WACC with the IRR. Rm is the
market rate of return in US and Rf is the risk free rate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the downturn of business cycle and advance in video conferencing technologies also affect
the company estimation of future demand. It predicts that during the next 20 years, economies will
grow annually by 3.2%, and air travel will grow with GDP at an annual rate of 5.1%. According to this
long term market outlook, it suggests that there will certain be a market for 7E7.
Market Share Airbus will launch their new large, long distance plane A380 in 2006. This plane can be
a dreadful competitive product to Boeing. If Boeing falls behind regarding innovations, fuel efficiency
and other attributes of a long haul airliner, it will soon lose its market share. In order for Boeing to
compete in the aviation industry, it is crucial to take on some risk and develop this new 7E7 project.
This helps the company to fight against its competitors and recover from the slump in the industry.
Financial Analysis The sensitivity analysis on IRR provided by the case in Exhibit 9 is demonstrated
in Table 3 in Appendix. With reference to the calculated WACC, 11.22%, most of the circumstances
considered in the sensitivity analysis suggest the acceptance of the 7E7 project. However, if the air
travel demand worsened and sold only 1500 in the first 20 years, the project will be abandoned even if
there is a 5% premium in price. If the unit volume sold is equal to

The Problem Of Cell 13, By Jacques Futrelle
Everybody has something they love and are committed to. Unquestionably, in the short story, The
Problem of Cell 13, by Jacques Futrelle, Professor Augustus S.F.X. Van Dusen is not an exception.
The Thinking Machine, as he is colloquially known as, is challenged by associates Dr. Charles
Ransome and Mr. Alfred Fielding to escape from a high security prison cell using only his mind.
Being as passionate as he is about logic, he accepts. In the story, Futrelle conveys the human
experience of commitment by using descriptive literary devices, and emphasizing the dynamic
character Dr. Charles Ransome. One indisputably evident theme infused into The Problem of Cell 13
is if you believe in something, you should go to great lengths for it. ... Show more content on

Another example on page 249 reads, You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under
sentence of death, and I would leave the cell (Futrelle). This shows that The Thinking Machine is
claiming to be able to think his way out of a cell in order to document his claim. Because he is so
passionate about logic, he is willing to spend a week in this cell, and eventually succeeds at escaping.
Therefore,
Dr. Charles Ransome is a dynamic character. In the story, Dr. Ransome is a scientist who strongly
believes The Thinking Machine cannot escape a high security prison. An early attribute Dr. Ransome
carries is his doubtfulness giving rise to uncertainty ( Doubtful ). In fact, on page 249, Dr. Ransome
reasons, No man can think himself out of a cell (Futrelle). Although The Thinking Machine says he
can escape, Dr. Ransome still doubts the possibility of The Thinking Machine living up to his name
and thinking his way out of a cell. A conversation takes place on page 249 between The Thinking
Machine and Dr. Ransome: You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under the sentence
of death, and I would leave the cell.
Not unless you entered it with tools prepared to get out, said Dr. Ransome. (Futrelle)
Again, Dr. Ransome questions The Thinking Machine by arguing he could only escape prison using
tools. He plainy does not believe The Thinking Machine s theory of anything being possible. Because
Dr. Ransome is a dynamic character, he

Using Auras ( Multimedia Overlays Created By The Aurasma
Introduction A kindergarten teacher desired to create an augmented reality experience to enhance her
students ability to learn sight words from her word wall. Augmented reality was defined as an
environment that includes both virtual reality and real world elements by Azuma (1997). This paper
evaluated the value of using auras (multimedia overlays created by the Aurasma (2011) software to
create the augmented reality over the real classroom environment, specifically the word wall.
Instructional Setting, Audience, and Content Area Instructional Setting The setting was a public school
classroom with 21 kindergarten students. The instruction took place in small groups, with the students
rotating through various centers around the classroom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teacher had to help all the other centers and tend to individual student needs simultaneously. This
meant the students had to be intermittently self directed and focused to accomplish the tasks at each
center. Audience The target audience was the kindergarten students, ages five to six years old. They
come from a range of socio economic backgrounds. The school overall had about 40% of their
students participating in the free/reduced lunch program. There were seven students who self
identified as being of color (Hispanic, African American and others). There were six students with
various learning challenges and IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). There were four students
who started the year with minimal to non existent English speaking skills. Content Area In alignment
with state requirements, students are expected to be able to write certain words before the end of the
school year. In support of this, the teacher had a writing center. Frequently the assignment would have
students copying some text from a template, but they were also expected to decode words they did not
know. Additionally they were to use the word wall to find and copy sight words. The teacher has songs
and visual reminders for how to spell the challenging words, but these cannot be put on the word wall.
She desired an augmented reality experience for the students, which would allow them to use the
classroom iPads to highlight a word, and see the associated aural or visual

Mccubbin Case
1. Employee or independent contractor.
The most important factor in determining an independent contractor versus employee status of a
worker is the amount of control the employer has over the workers in performing a particular task.
McCubbin by through McCubbin v. Walker, 256 Kan. 276, 281, 866 P.2d 790 (1994). There must be a
contract between the person wanting work done and the person doing the work in order to establish
either an employer employee relationship or an independent contractor relationship. Id at 282, 866

An independent contractor is defined as someone who is contracted to perform a job. The person

For starters, George had control over the scheduling of employees, the way the workers dressed, the
payment, and the procedure of selling peanuts. Even if George did not explicitly use this right (like
with the scheduling system used) he still had the right to use that control (when he scheduled people to
work games they did not sign up for. There is no formal training for the employees. However, the
worksheet and discussions with George if a particular vendor is struggling can be seen as a form of
training for employees in order to up their sales. This leads into another factor with how the worker s
services tied into the business. The Vending Company s business is to be a food and drink vendor for
all of the BeanBalls baseball games. Kary along with the other employees played an integral part of
the Vending Company s business since they were the people actually selling the products at the game.
Kary personally provided the services to the Vending Company, there was no person hired by Kary as
a third party to do her job. The fact that Kary was paid by the hour and not by the game is indicative
of a continuing relationship between The Vending Company and Kary. George had set work hours for
his employees, since they could only work during the games plus the additional hour before that is
required to get all of the equipment and peanuts ready to sell. There was a specific procedure to how
the employees were supposed to go about their work for that day. The employees will first show up
and pick up their carrier. From that point, the employee will go and scoop/bag the peanuts they are
going to sell. At the end of the game there is a final tally of how many bags were sold, and whoever
sold the most would receive a 20 dollar bonus. The employees must wear uniforms, though they can
embellish it as they please, and they must wear black shoes. George

Analysis
Point of View
I M THE MOST TERRIFIC LIAR you ever saw in your life.
(Holden 19).
This story is told in the first person point of view. The author chose the story to be first person to build
a connection with the reader, and to tell stories from their own perspective, since they are more
reliable than being told by someone else. First person also allows the reader to create a relationship
with the protagonist and get to to know the character by the choices he made and the life experiences
he had.
Foreshadowing
I ll just tell you about this madman stuff that happened to me last Christmas just before I got pretty
rundown and had to come here and take it easy.
(Holden 3).
This quote on the first chapter of the book indicates that Holden has some anxiety problems and is
either in an institution to help calm and deal with the nerves, since he mentioned he is a nervous guy,
or in a hospital, after a mental breakdown. The sentence encourages the reader to want to know why
and how he has to calm down, and what events lead to this major madman occurrences.
Tone
After I shut the door and started back to the living room, he yelled something at me, but I couldn t
exactly hear him. I m pretty sure he yelled Good luck! at me. I hope not. I hope to hell not. I d never

Essay on Battle of Gen X and Gen Y
The Battle of Gen X and Gen Y
There¡¦s no doubt about it, the newest diversity issue in the workplace is age diversity. Many
organizations have finally figured out how to recruit young talent only to watch them drive down a
collision course with seasoned employees over issues like work ethic, respect for authority, dress code
and every work arrangement imaginable. And they re not sure what to do about it.
With this paper, I decided to take this concept because of the people that I have to work with on a
continual basis. They are usually people from the Generation X trying to communicate with
Generation Y. Just the other day I heard from someone I am working with, ¡§Those god d* amp;#
young kids don¡¦t want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is this realism and ability to deal with issues rather than ignore them. Most are decent, pragmatic,
creative, strongly independent, self reliant, and hard working. They have a surprisingly good work
ethic including a strong sense of company loyalty, as long as it s reciprocal and we want to get ahead,
even though we aren t as concerned with the trappings of quot;success quot; as earlier generations
were. However, they are very concerned with financial and emotional security, and hopeful that the
future will be good to us, but shockingly realistic and honest about the struggles that they are going to
face in a rapidly changing world of diminishing resources.
On the downside of the two generations, a lot of the Generation X¡¦ers will butt heads with their
younger counterparts. The old fashioned way of communicating via personal phone is being replaced
with an e mail or cell phone. Technology is ok but Gen Y is proficient and not afraid to use it, and this
kind of attitude demands change where as the Gen X just accepts it. Also, when it comes to employer
loyalty, if the Gen Y doesn¡¦t get their Saturday off they will quit; whereas the Gen X thinks if I do this
it could give me a promotion. The battle lines are clearly drawn in the line of attitude and influences of
the age diversity of this group.
So after drawing the battle lines between the two generations, I sat back and

Metric System Benefits
Contention 1: Numerous Benefits
Assists Globalization If the US adopted the metric system, many businesses and industries would
benefit.
The United States is now the only industrialized country in the world that does not use the metric
system as its predominant system of measurement. Judge, that is 95% of the world s total
manufacturing business that uses a different, more precise, and better method than the one we use to
manufacture goods.
As a study from Cambridge University in 2015 states, if the US switched to the metric system,
thousands of new jobs would be created This is because the US workforce will be more prepared to
work in the international marketplace and industrial affairs with other countries would be much
stronger than what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metric system also avoids the use of multiple units for the same quantity; for instance, the inch
pound system s multiple units for volume include teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, etc.
Contention 2: Adoption of Metric System is Feasible Thinking metric won t be hard
Judge, the metric system is a very simple unit of measurement that is simple to understand because it
is easy to convert and easy to use.
Also, schools are already teaching the metric system along with the English system in day to day
classes. Aside from education, almost all, water bottles, thermometers, and food bags already include
metric measurements along side them.
Thinking metric is easy. For example, thinking metric for temperature means relating zero degrees
Celsius with the freezing point of water, 20 degrees Celsius with room temperature, 37 degrees
Celsius with body temperature, and 100 degrees Celsius with the boiling points of water.

Disadvantages Of Geothermal Power
What is Geothermal Energy?
Geothermal energy is to a more or less
extent, extracting power/energy from Earth s internal thermal heat.
How do Geothermal Power Plants Produce Energy?
To produce electricity/energy, wells are
dug a mile or so deep into underground reservoirs. They tap steam and hot water which drives turbines
that are connected to electricity generators.
What Are The Different Types of Geothermal Power Plants?
There are three types of geothermal power plants: binary, flash, and dry steam.
In binary geothermal power plants they use hot water and pass it by a secondary fluid, this fluid as a
lower boiling point, causing the secondary fluid to become a steam that drives the turbine.
In flash geothermal power plants they use steam made by rom pulling high pressure hot water into
cooler low pressure water. They then use the steam to drive the turbines.
Finally, in dry steam geothermal power plants they also use steam, but get the stream from out of
fractures in the surface and used it to drive the turbine directly. It is one of the oldest forms of
harnessing geothermal energy.
Benefits and Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy has many benefits here are a few. Geothermal can be extracted without burning a
fossil fuel. Most geothermal power plants in the future will be binary geothermal power plants, these
types of power plants do not create

Pros And Cons Of Ban On Tobacco Should Be Banned
The ban is also supported by those who believe it is morally wrong to entice people to engage in a
behavior so detrimental to good health, and further argue that it is a government s responsibility to
protect the health and well being of its peoples. There are also those who base their opposition based
on the financial impact. The costs of lost productivity, treating tobacco related illness, the financial
impact of illness and death on families are staggering. Monies not spent on cigarettes could be spent
on services and goods. (2010. Ban on Tobacco Ads by the Government of India )
There are those who do not support such a ban. Among the many reasons for their disapproval are
those centering around limiting the intrusion of government into personal choice and restraint of trade.
Many believe that government should not be able to restrict personal choice, or restrict the advertising
practices of a legal product. They further argue that the ban will be difficult if not impossible to
enforce, since the ban does not include traditional Indian tobacco alternatives or advertising in foreign
media outlets. They also point to opposing studies that show no correlation between advertising
dollars spent and tobacco products sold. (2010. Ban on Tobacco Ads by the Government of India ) ...

cost of healthcare. They further argue that the cost illnesses caused by tobacco usage are offset by
those who die early from tobacco related illness. Premature deaths save the cost of government
benefits and pensions. (2010. Ban on Tobacco Ads by the Government of

Tungsten Research Paper

Tungsten
Title of Your Report
Tungsten, also known as wolfram, is a chemical element with symbol W and atomic number 74. The
word tungsten comes from the Swedish language tung sten, which directly translates to heavy stone.
Its name in Swedish is volfram, however, in order to distinguish it from scheelite, which in Swedish is
alternatively named tungsten.
A hard, rare metal under standard conditions when uncombined, tungsten is found naturally on Earth
only in chemical compounds. It was identified as a new element in 1781, and first isolated as a metal
in 1783. Its important ores include wolframite and scheelite. The free element is remarkable for its

4 K; mixing the two phases allows obtaining intermediate TC values. The TC value can also be raised
by alloying tungsten with another metal . Such tungsten alloys are sometimes used in low temperature
superconducting circuits.
Isotopes
Naturally occurring tungsten consists of five isotopes whose half lives are so long that they can be
considered stable. Theoretically, all five can decay into isotopes of element 72 by alpha emission, but
only 180W has been observed to do so with a half life of ×1018 years; on average, this yields about
two alpha decays of 180W in one gram of natural tungsten per year. The other naturally occurring
isotopes have not been observed to decay, constraining their half lives to be:
Another 30 artificial radioisotopes of tungsten have been characterized, the most stable of which are
181W with a half life of 121.2 days, 185W with a half life of 75.1 days, 188W with a half life of 69.4
days, 178W with a half life of 21.6 days, and 187W with a half life of 23.72 h. Tungsten typically
combines with oxygen to form the yellow tungstic oxide, WO3, which dissolves in aqueous alkaline
solutions to form tungstate ions,

Why Is Lincoln s Assassination Justified
On April 14th, 1865, John Wilkes Booth kidnaped and assassinated Abraham Lincoln. It was a
mournful day for individuals of the U.S . Meanwhile, Booth wanted to protect the South against the
Union. He had co conspirators by his side who attempted to kidnap the president several times but
ended in failure. Many think Booth should have done something different to change Lincoln s idea of
abolishing slavery. Although John Wilkes Booth did something wrong for the right reason, it will
never be justified because there is always a different alternative.
Being motivated to do harsh actions leads to jealousy, which develops a person to do anything for
their own satisfaction. Considering the fact, Booth compares himself to Brutus which was the Roman
statesman who murdered Julius Caesar. Brutus and his fellow Roman senators feared Caesar wanted to
become the dictator of the republic. In the article, Last Diary Entry of John Wilkes Booth , Booth

Baking Soda Experiment
Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar
Introduction:
A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and
vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of
reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see
how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the
farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to
the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of
baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot.
Materials:
Paper towel
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Film canister

Methods:
1. Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm

Goliath Issues In Social Media
The American people are following the popular things on the social media and not truly knowing the
credentials of author of any articles. People can hide themselves through social media and write
anything that without backing it up. A wolf can use sheep s clothing in the social media so therefore
the American people must be aware of that. Politics for the common man and women is a lot of work
to stay informed and life is so full of uncreditable information. The American people sometimes see
the Goliath issues that threaten our nation, the constant fight of evil and the snarling realities of people
that are in opposition to a biblical worldview of current events. Wicked people sought to suppress and
control access to the truth of the Bible, which sounds familiar. Men and women were under vigorous
persecution for merely translating a written Bible. Their work hurt no one and yet, these Christians
were treated as criminals and persecuted even under the American government. The establishment
church can be a politician s greatest enemy, the very people that should have been in support.

Xenophobia In Refugea
INTRODUCTION
The definition of refugee has changed according to time and place. A standard form of definition states
those who are forced to flee their homes due to persecution being an individual or as part of a mass
exodus due to political, religious, military or other problems, and also who are unable to protect them
due to the circumstances of their country are known as refugees. Refugee Rights are similar to
fundamental Rights of a citizen modified with certain conditions.
When we talk about Refugee, the two terms strike in the mind of a laymani.e.Xenophobia and
Racism.
It has been a trend of mania of fear that Refugee means Xenophobia. It is(a form of discrimination)

Stepped up interaction at the interface between assistance and protection has highlighted the issues
that are currently being examined in this paper.
Many Researchers have shown that severe economic inequalities and the marginalization of persons
from access to basic economic and social conditions give rise to manifestations of racism and
xenophobia. Those perceived to be outsiders or foreigners, often migrants, refugees, asylum seekers,
displaced persons, and non nationals, are main targets.
The first thing which comes to light in evaluating position of refugees in different states are racism
and xenophobia, which ultimately led the conclusion in making possibility of partnership in protection
of Refugee Rights. Both the terms Racism and Xenophobia are distinct in meaning, but both makes
the resettlement and rehabilitation of refugees difficult.
Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action urges all governments to take immediate measures and
to develop strong policies to prevent and combat all forms and manifestations of racism, xenophobia
or related intolerance, where necessary by enactment of

The Incredible Power of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
It has been Russian writers in particular, who for two centuries have struggled against censorship and
oppression to accomplish two great tasks: to create innovative and meaningful art, and to use that art
to make a statement about a specifically Russian predicament. So often the theme was political, and so
many generations of Russians criticised Mother Russia for her backward ways. Vissarion Belinsky s
caustic admonitions in his Letter to Gogol were long a rallying cry for writers: This is why, especially
among us, universal attention is paid...to every manifestation of any so called liberal trend, no matter
how poor the writer s gifts...The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of GULAG was based on hundreds of letters and memoirs that former prisoners mailed to
Solzhenitsyn after One Day was published. (Remnick, 119)
When reading One Day it is overwhelming to comprehend and imagine this single dawn to dusk
description, with the hindsight to understand that millions of multitudes of men and women suffered
through such an evil scheme of servitude of cruelty.
One Day was the first book of its kind to be printed in Russia. Miraculously, it was not only printed,
but subsequently soldto the citizenry, who were actually allowed to read it. This unheard of event
occurred during a very delicate period of time known as the Khrushchev thaw , when open
condemnation of the cult of personality began to become commonplace, even expected. These brief
years of relief enjoyed a momentary artistic flowering, and poets like Yevgeny Yevtushenko and
Anderi Voznezensky, among others, began to emerge. During Khrushchev s cultural thaw, plays or
novels such as Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denizovich were the primary signs of new
freedom. (Smith, 110) The response to this little book was immense, and an interesting documentation
of varied responses to it is included in Leopold Lebedze s work, Solzhenitsyn: A Documentary

Essay on The Impact of Sanctions on Idi Amin s...
From the time Idi Amin came to power in Uganda until the time his regime fell, his brutal rule
negatively impacted Uganda in every aspect of its existence. In 1971, Idi Amin along with military
support, ousted Prime Minister Milton Obote while he was out of the country in Singapore attending a
Commonwealth summit meeting with many other leaders of African and European countries. Over the
course of his violent reign, Idi Amin killed between 100,000 and 300,000 of his own people and
doomed the economy with the expulsion of those of Asian nationality. Many of his victims were killed
for no reason, or for a very insignificant action. Amin was in power from 1971 to 1979 and proved
early into his dictatorship that he was very powerful. Only one ... Show more content on

Not only did Amin harm Uganda by killing a lot of its population, he also was the cause of an almost
complete economic collapse, when, in 1972, he declared an economic war on the Asian population in
Uganda. Uganda s economy relied heavily on its Asian population because they ran most of the
manufacturing and trade sectors as well as making up a large portion of the civil service. Amin s order
of expulsion for the Asian population gave them three months to exit Uganda. They were given British
passports and the businesses they left behind were turned over to Amin s supporters. Amin not only
decimated the population of Uganda during his despotic reign but caused the economy to falter and
fail as well. As his reign of terror went on, news of Amin s crimes and atrocities began surfacing
internationally, spurring retaliatory actions from countries all over the world. The United States as
well as the United Kingdom, Japan, France, the Netherlands, and West Germany played a large role in
Uganda s trading by being the largest exporters of their coffee. The United States exported the most,
being responsible for 75% of all the coffee exported by Uganda. In the beginning stages of Amin s
reign, the United States did not do much more than denounce Amin and the major violations of human
rights being committed under him (Nurnberger 71). Through the thesis and knowledge of Uganda s
economy from William Goold, the legislative

Electronic Health Record Executive Summary
2015 saw yet more practice owners convert to electronic health records (EHR). This recent influx of
providers into the health IT space has caused dozens of new EHR vendors to open for business. But
building and maintaining EHR systems isn t the easiest job in the world. Government mandates like
Meaningful Use (MU) and the Physicians Quality Reporting System (PQRS) require vendors to stay
up to date with regulations as well as maintain their certification. Good EHR vendors will not only
maintain their certification but will help their clients meet, if not exceed, government regulations so
they may take advantage of financial incentives while avoiding penalties for non compliance. If you re

Starbucks s Marketing Strategy For Starbucks
This particular case starts off by telling the background of Starbucks as it is today. 30 years ago,
Starbucks was a single store in Seattle s Pike Place Market selling premium roasted coffee. They
decided to change their traditional customer experience in the 1980s. When the company s director of
marketing, Howard Schultz, came back from Italy, he felt enchanted with the coffee house experience
of Italy. Mr. Schultz wanted to duplicate this experience in his own coffee stores. The new strategy
consisted of selling their already proven products in a tastefully designed coffee house setting. With
this strategy, Starbucks became one of the best known brands in the country in a decade. There stores
became places for relaxation, reading the newspaper, holding business meetings, or even browsing the
web. Nevertheless, Starbucks wanted to expand their market. Their first target market was Japan. The
company established a joint venture with a local retailer, Sazaby Inc. This joint venture was divided in
half between the two companies. In order to replicate the experience without losing their competitive
advantage, the Starbucks format was then licensed to the venture. To ensure that the Starbucks
experience in Japan was duplicated properly, Starbucks actually transferred some of their employees
to their Japanese operations. Many critics did not feel that Starbucks was capable of duplicating their
experience into foreign countries. However, by the end of 2009, Starbucks had

Political Corruption, Inequality, And The Socially Excluded
Floid Krajcovic
Political Corruption, Inequality, and the Socially Excluded
Everyone knows that in our current society there are large amounts of political, equality, and social
gaps that occur and can be clearly seen between the wealthy and the poor when it comes to politics,
equality, and being socially accepted in the United States by others. People who are affected by these
issues can and will experience social and political exploitations along with political and social abuse
from numerous entities (Salas, 2013). These political and social exploitations and abuses occur on a
daily basis and can cause great harm to those affected by them. People that are affected by these issues
are usually the targets of corrupt politicians, inequalities, and social exclusion from others and must
find a way to fight back in order to gain some form of or type of social justice for themselves and
those of the same social class as them. If everyone in this social class decides or chooses to keep quite
or continue to keep remaining silent then social change concerning exploitations and the social abuses
they face will never occur and these injustices will keep happening over and over again (Salas, 2013).
However, the approach that is used in seeking that change must be respectful to and of all involved
wanting and seeking the change.
One way that many of these injustices or social exploitations and abuses can be changed forever is by
taking our old/current political injustice system of

Asbestos Betwee Case Study
Having already established the basis of a theoretical outlook as well as the social history of asbestos,
which is still produced and used in American manufacturing, we will now move on to explain the
methods we are using to collect our data. For our subject area, we have selected Oneida Herkimer,
Jefferson, Oswego, and Onondaga County Solid Waste Facilities located in Upstate New York, and we
will be exploring the differences in how asbestos is disposed of in each of these counties. We chose
these counties because our insider has had direct contact with the solid waste management bosses of
these counties and can easily obtain asbestos information. We believe this is best because it limits
under reporting of asbestos amounts in fear of public exposure. Furthermore, he has a case study we
hope to analysis on the differences in the removal of asbestos from Jefferson and Oswego. We plan to
find this out by using an interview process to collect our data. We will gather information by way of
interviews with leaders from the New York State Department of Labor as well as landfill operators in
each of the five counties listed above. We hope to analyze the discrepancies and pitfalls regarding

The island is around 120km long and cover a significant area of 1,840km2
Fraser Island is known for its spectacular long white beaches, sand cliffs, rain forests and a number of
freshwater lakes that are crystal clear.
The indigenous people of Fraser Island are the Butchulla people or their traditional name K gari.
However due to the European settlement many of the traditions and the way of life the aboriginals live
were destroyed either intentionally or through plain ignorance.
The Butchulla people were governed by a Council of Elders and of course the generations and
generations of traditions that have been passed down. The council included a number of mature men,
but only the elders had voting rights. The council of elders were responsible for allowing visitors into
their tribal lands, they gave them permission to enter and told them when they had to leave. The
Council made sure all rules (social and environmental) were met and was responsible for the totem
system.
The totem system was when each member of the tribe was given a totem that represented a plant or
animal. You were not allowed to eat, harm or hunt your totem or your family s totem. The only
exception was during war, unique ceremonies or when you crossed into non tribal lands. The totem

Analysis Of The Movie Rita Ha By Noah Baumbach

2012, Frances Ha follows young New Yorker Frances Halliday (Greta Gerwig) who, at age 27, is
living with her best friend Sophie (Mickey Summer) whilst in an attempt to get her life heading in a
succesful direction. The film examines and humanizes the importance of growing up in different
cultures, experiencing the highs and lows of a sacred friendship, the realities of early adulthood and
making sacrifices in order to get to where you need to be. The stand out aspect of cinematography

Omtting colour and using natural lighting helps not only this scene but the entire story to develop as it
provokes more concentration from the viewer into this raw dialouge and acting. The classical style of
cinematography is used by Levy in shooting Frances Ha. The scene is shot with a steadycam evident
through a smooth pan following Dan from the couch to the kitchen. For the majority of the scene, the
camera is fixed in one position on Frances and Dan through a mid shot as they are seated on the
couch. This shot size is framed around the subjects for a measure of distance (Bordwell and
Thompson, 2008). The pair are sitting very close together and the shot further outlines this by being
close to the subjects without being labelled as close up shot. It is a tight frame, with a tight fix on the
subjects. This communicates to the audience that these two are a couple and they are very comfortable
with eachother and have been for a long time. The depth of field and focus range is very slim. This is a
result of the distance between the closet and farthest objects in the scene being very small. Baumbach
wants to focus soley on the characters in this scene as the position of the frame is extremely neutral.
The lens is level with the pair sitting down on the couch with no high or low angles used. For
Baumbach, it was not a case of symbolic cinematography, but instead to provide a more a neutral
perspective to develop the

Stephen King s Insight On Dreams
Stephen King s insight on dreams are all based on personal experiences. King begins by comparing
the functionality of a dream to a mirror I ve always used dreams the way you d use a mirror to look at
something you couldn t see head on . By using this idea of dreams being like mirrors, King is able to
alleviate his writer s block by depicting his dreams directly onto paper. An example would be when
King had already written seven to eight hundred pages of his novel which he could not seem to finish.
Then later reveals how a nightmare provoked the ending, he states how he woke up frightened yet at
the same time relieved he d finished the book. According to King all he had to do at this point was to
take his dream and transfer it to paper. Without a doubt, King s personal experiences can justify why
he believes dreams are a way that people s minds illustrate the nature of their problems. Or maybe
even illustrates the answer to their problem in symbolic language .
After reading Stephen King s essay, it is easy to conclude that his dreams are extremely valuable to his
writing. King makes it clear that he has a consistent writing habit, but an unpredictable though
process. King also believes that a strong writer can dream while awake. He illustrates many example
where he uses dreams to create or finish a novel or film. This approach is random and unpredictable.
An example of his approach would be when he was working on the Salems Lot. King explains how he
relied on a nightmare

Political Correctness Has Gone Too Far
Political correctness has gone too far The Politically Correct movement s purpose is to bring
historically condescending terms, offensive music and art, and controversial educational content to an
end and replace them with more positive and less offending references. Offensive and demoralizing
efforts are wrong, but the censorship and deletion of words and phrases that do not contain the
intention to demoralize are taking political correctness too far. Politically correct (or PC ) antics have
created a social decline that is growing worse with each generation, specifically regarding areas of art,
education, language, and our right to freedom of speech; the degradation they have brought to the
American psyche has even led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are regulating our ways of plain speaking, freedom of choice, and freedom of speech. Laws of
restrictions on slander and public decency should be decided on the common law methodology and
not by the interests of the liberal mob . If plain speaking is not allowed, clear thinking is denied.
Political correctness has been brought about to protect groups in society from possibly offensive
terminology aimed toward them. For example, the previous use of nigger has been replaced by a more
positive description, African American. The word cripple has been replaced first by disabled and then
by physically challenged. A man living on the street is not to be referred to as a bum any longer. A
bum must now be referred to as a transient. These are all examples of taking names with negative
connotations toward a person or group and subsequently replacing them. Our history is filled with
biased words and phrases that sometimes label groups inferior. For this reason, I agree that political
correctness is warranted. What I do not agree with is the conversion of non offensive words within our
language. We are changing words that have no offensive value. For instance, because we as a society
are so afraid of offending the super sensitive, the word jungle is now referred to as rain forest. Another
example is brought up by S.I. Hayakawa in the essay, Words with Built in Judgments [S.I.Hayakawa
and Alan R. Hayakawa]. He cited: What about the woman on the softball team who

The Effectiveness of Composting in Protecting the...
As of recently, there has been an ever growing buzz regarding the environment and being sustainable,
and we need to embrace this movement. As the population grows, our demands on Earth s resources
grow, and this current rate is not sustainable. Barring any change, we will not have enough freshwater
and natural resources to support our society in the near future. Each day, we incur more and more
damage through the demands of consumerism, and this must come to an end. We must, as a society,
take it upon ourselves to make individual changes which will potentially be the start of a global shift
to a sustainable lifestyle. Our conscious decisions and actions will determine the future health of our
planet. Right now is the time we can make a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, composting also has many other substantial environmental benefits. Composting is a very
efficient sustainable process that achieves its goal of being environmentally friendly by enriching soil,
remediating contaminated soil, and preventing pollution.
One of the main environmental benefits of compost is that it enriches the soil. The compost helps bind
the sand, silt, and clay particles in the soil together, resulting in improved storage capacity for
nutrients and water (Davies 41). This also results in a secondary benefit less water is needed to water
plants fertilized by compost. Compost is also very nutrient rich, so rich that gardeners commonly refer
to it as black gold ( Evanston... 3). It improves soil fertility as the composting process encourages the
growth of beneficial bacteria and fungi, which in turn break down organic matter to create humus, a
rich nutrient filled material. Kate Stewart, a student at Northwestern University and member of
GREEN House, has had extended experience with using compost to enrich poor Texas soil and says
that adding rich compost can make a huge difference... this means we can garden. This ability of
compost to enrich infertile soil is a profound environmental benefit.
Another important environmental impact of composting is its ability to remediate contaminated soil.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the composting process can absorb odors and
treat pesticides and

The Financial Position Of Melbourne

domain name, web hosting, online brand protection and promotion. The company operates through
two major segments which are SMB solutions and Enterprise services.
The aim of this paper is to analyse the financial position of Melbourne IT limited through the use of
financial ratios, based on the annual report for the periods December 2012 and 2013. Financial ratios
are useful since they measure a company s performance and give an overview of the financial
situation. Ratios are also used to analyse trends and to compare a firms financial figures to other

Bazely and Hancock (2010)
During the period 2012 and 2013, the Operating profit margin decreased from 9.2% to 5.7%. This
slight decline can be attributed to the decreased revenues and the increase in tax expenses.
The Net Profit Margin in 2012 was 10.5% while in 2013 it was 66.6%. This increase in the Net Profit
Margin can be attributed to the increase in net profits after taxes despite the fact that there was a slight
decrease in revenues.
During this period, the Return on Assets increased from 5.7% in 2012 to 34.6% in 2013. This implies
the number of cents earned on each dollar of assets increased from 2012 to 2013. This shows that the
business has become more profitable. Equally, the Return on Equity also increased from 12.0% in
2012 to 46.5% in 2013. This similarly implies that the company in 2013 was more efficient in
generating income from new investment. This, also can be attributed to the sale of the Digital
Business Brand which enabled the company appraise its strategic plan.
The Earnings Per share in 2012 and 2013 were $2.90. This is an indicator that the company is still
profitable since the ratio is a constant. The price per earnings in 2012 was 12.5 and 17.7 in 2013. A
decrease in the price per share may indicate a vote of no confidence to investors. However, this can be
attributed to the industry sector as well the stock.

  • 2. Les Miserable Quotes In the book les miserable written by Victor Hugo it talks about Val jeans life and how one crime can change a man s life forever. Because Val jean continually seeks freedom and forgiveness for his past crimes he is never truly happy. The crime of theft has an unrealistic punishment and leaves a man who feels he is innocent on the run. Val jean was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing one piece of bread. After he gets out of prison he is never truly free again he is always looking over his shoulder or reminded of the crime he once committed. The determination and want that Val jean has to be free again pushes him so far as to take his own life. Freedom is a big part in the life of Val jean. In the book his life doesn t have much freedom due to the situation, timing, and luck that Val jean has his Freedom is limited. A soul for a piece of bread. Misery makes the offer; society accepts. When he was in disguise everyone loved what he was doing but as a criminal they hated his every action. Javert in the book Les miserable knew who Val jean was due to their past experiences at the prison. Victor Hugo did this in order to show how the community looked at criminals. • 3. The Boeing 7e7 The Boeing 7E7 WACC Estimation In order to evaluate the prospective IRRs from the Boeing 7E7, we first try to estimate an appropriate required rate of return for accepting this project. The capital asset pricing model is applied to estimate the cost of equity of the commercial aircraft division: R_EC= β_EC*(R_M R_f )+R_f where REC is the cost of equity capital of the commercial aircraft division. βEC is the beta for the commercial division of Boeing. This beta is used instead of the company s overall beta is because the 7E7 project is a project on the commercial aircraft section. In addition, the downturn of business cycle and advance in video conferencing technologies also affect the company estimation of future demand. It predicts that during the next 20 years, economies will grow annually by 3.2%, and air travel will grow with GDP at an annual rate of 5.1%. According to this long term market outlook, it suggests that there will certain be a market for 7E7. Market Share Airbus will launch their new large, long distance plane A380 in 2006. This plane can be a dreadful competitive product to Boeing. If Boeing falls behind regarding innovations, fuel efficiency and other attributes of a long haul airliner, it will soon lose its market share. In order for Boeing to compete in the aviation industry, it is crucial to take on some risk and develop this new 7E7 project. This helps the company to fight against its competitors and recover from the slump in the industry. Financial Analysis The sensitivity analysis on IRR provided by the case in Exhibit 9 is demonstrated in Table 3 in Appendix. With reference to the calculated WACC, 11.22%, most of the circumstances considered in the sensitivity analysis suggest the acceptance of the 7E7 project. However, if the air travel demand worsened and sold only 1500 in the first 20 years, the project will be abandoned even if there is a 5% premium in price. If the unit volume sold is equal to ... • 5. The Problem Of Cell 13, By Jacques Futrelle Everybody has something they love and are committed to. Unquestionably, in the short story, The Problem of Cell 13, by Jacques Futrelle, Professor Augustus S.F.X. Van Dusen is not an exception. The Thinking Machine, as he is colloquially known as, is challenged by associates Dr. Charles Ransome and Mr. Alfred Fielding to escape from a high security prison cell using only his mind. Being as passionate as he is about logic, he accepts. In the story, Futrelle conveys the human experience of commitment by using descriptive literary devices, and emphasizing the dynamic character Dr. Charles Ransome. One indisputably evident theme infused into The Problem of Cell 13 is if you believe in something, you should go to great lengths for it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example on page 249 reads, You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under sentence of death, and I would leave the cell (Futrelle). This shows that The Thinking Machine is claiming to be able to think his way out of a cell in order to document his claim. Because he is so passionate about logic, he is willing to spend a week in this cell, and eventually succeeds at escaping. Therefore, Dr. Charles Ransome is a dynamic character. In the story, Dr. Ransome is a scientist who strongly believes The Thinking Machine cannot escape a high security prison. An early attribute Dr. Ransome carries is his doubtfulness giving rise to uncertainty ( Doubtful ). In fact, on page 249, Dr. Ransome reasons, No man can think himself out of a cell (Futrelle). Although The Thinking Machine says he can escape, Dr. Ransome still doubts the possibility of The Thinking Machine living up to his name and thinking his way out of a cell. A conversation takes place on page 249 between The Thinking Machine and Dr. Ransome: You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under the sentence of death, and I would leave the cell. Not unless you entered it with tools prepared to get out, said Dr. Ransome. (Futrelle) Again, Dr. Ransome questions The Thinking Machine by arguing he could only escape prison using tools. Using Auras ( Multimedia Overlays Created By The Aurasma Introduction A kindergarten teacher desired to create an augmented reality experience to enhance her students ability to learn sight words from her word wall. Augmented reality was defined as an environment that includes both virtual reality and real world elements by Azuma (1997). This paper evaluated the value of using auras (multimedia overlays created by the Aurasma (2011) software to create the augmented reality over the real classroom environment, specifically the word wall. The teacher had to help all the other centers and tend to individual student needs simultaneously. This meant the students had to be intermittently self directed and focused to accomplish the tasks at each center. The school overall had about 40% of their students participating in the free/reduced lunch program. There were seven students who self identified as being of color (Hispanic, African American and others). There were six students with various learning challenges and IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). There were four students who started the year with minimal to non existent English speaking skills. Content Area In alignment with state requirements, students are expected to be able to write certain words before the end of the school year. In support of this, the teacher had a writing center. Frequently the assignment would have students copying some text from a template, but they were also expected to decode words they did not know. Additionally they were to use the word wall to find and copy sight words. The teacher has songs and visual reminders for how to spell the challenging words, but these cannot be put on the word wall. The most important factor in determining an independent contractor versus employee status of a worker is the amount of control the employer has over the workers in performing a particular task. McCubbin by through McCubbin v. Walker, 256 Kan. 276, 281, 866 P.2d 790 (1994). There is no formal training for the employees. However, the worksheet and discussions with George if a particular vendor is struggling can be seen as a form of training for employees in order to up their sales. This leads into another factor with how the worker s services tied into the business. The Vending Company s business is to be a food and drink vendor for all of the BeanBalls baseball games. Kary along with the other employees played an integral part of the Vending Company s business since they were the people actually selling the products at the game. Kary personally provided the services to the Vending Company, there was no person hired by Kary as a third party to do her job. The fact that Kary was paid by the hour and not by the game is indicative of a continuing relationship between The Vending Company and Kary. George had set work hours for his employees, since they could only work during the games plus the additional hour before that is required to get all of the equipment and peanuts ready to sell. There was a specific procedure to how the employees were supposed to go about their work for that day. The employees will first show up and pick up their carrier. From that point, the employee will go and scoop/bag the peanuts they are going to sell. At the end of the game there is a final tally of how many bags were sold, and whoever sold the most would receive a 20 dollar bonus. • 8. The Catcher In The Rye Dialectical Journal Dialectical Journal Name: Joana De Sousa Novel: A Catcher in the Rye Author: J.D. Salinger Literary Element Quote Analysis Point of View I M THE MOST TERRIFIC LIAR you ever saw in your life. (Holden 19). This story is told in the first person point of view. The author chose the story to be first person to build a connection with the reader, and to tell stories from their own perspective, since they are more reliable than being told by someone else. First person also allows the reader to create a relationship with the protagonist and get to to know the character by the choices he made and the life experiences he had. Foreshadowing I ll just tell you about this madman stuff that happened to me last Christmas just before I got pretty rundown and had to come here and take it easy. (Holden 3). This quote on the first chapter of the book indicates that Holden has some anxiety problems and is either in an institution to help calm and deal with the nerves, since he mentioned he is a nervous guy, or in a hospital, after a mental breakdown. The sentence encourages the reader to want to know why and how he has to calm down, and what events lead to this major madman occurrences. • 11. Disadvantages Of Geothermal Power What is Geothermal Energy? Geothermal energy is to a more or less extent, extracting power/energy from Earth s internal thermal heat. How do Geothermal Power Plants Produce Energy? To produce electricity/energy, wells are dug a mile or so deep into underground reservoirs. They tap steam and hot water which drives turbines that are connected to electricity generators. What Are The Different Types of Geothermal Power Plants? There are three types of geothermal power plants: binary, flash, and dry steam. In binary geothermal power plants they use hot water and pass it by a secondary fluid, this fluid as a lower boiling point, causing the secondary fluid to become a steam that drives the turbine. In flash geothermal power plants they use steam made by rom pulling high pressure hot water into cooler low pressure water. They then use the steam to drive the turbines. Finally, in dry steam geothermal power plants they also use steam, but get the stream from out of fractures in the surface and used it to drive the turbine directly. It is one of the oldest forms of harnessing geothermal energy. Benefits and Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy has many benefits here are a few. The American people sometimes see the Goliath issues that threaten our nation, the constant fight of evil and the snarling realities of people that are in opposition to a biblical worldview of current events. Wicked people sought to suppress and control access to the truth of the Bible, which sounds familiar. Men and women were under vigorous persecution for merely translating a written Bible. Their work hurt no one and yet, these Christians were treated as criminals and persecuted even under the American government. When the company s director of marketing, Howard Schultz, came back from Italy, he felt enchanted with the coffee house experience of Italy. Mr. Schultz wanted to duplicate this experience in his own coffee stores. The new strategy consisted of selling their already proven products in a tastefully designed coffee house setting. With this strategy, Starbucks became one of the best known brands in the country in a decade. There stores became places for relaxation, reading the newspaper, holding business meetings, or even browsing the web. Nevertheless, Starbucks wanted to expand their market. Their first target market was Japan. The company established a joint venture with a local retailer, Sazaby Inc. This joint venture was divided in half between the two companies. In order to replicate the experience without losing their competitive advantage, the Starbucks format was then licensed to the venture. For the majority of the scene, the camera is fixed in one position on Frances and Dan through a mid shot as they are seated on the couch. This shot size is framed around the subjects for a measure of distance (Bordwell and Thompson, 2008). The pair are sitting very close together and the shot further outlines this by being close to the subjects without being labelled as close up shot. It is a tight frame, with a tight fix on the subjects. This communicates to the audience that these two are a couple and they are very comfortable with eachother and have been for a long time. The depth of field and focus range is very slim. This is a result of the distance between the closet and farthest objects in the scene being very small. Baumbach wants to focus soley on the characters in this scene as the position of the frame is extremely neutral. King begins by comparing the functionality of a dream to a mirror I ve always used dreams the way you d use a mirror to look at something you couldn t see head on . By using this idea of dreams being like mirrors, King is able to alleviate his writer s block by depicting his dreams directly onto paper. An example would be when King had already written seven to eight hundred pages of his novel which he could not seem to finish. Then later reveals how a nightmare provoked the ending, he states how he woke up frightened yet at the same time relieved he d finished the book. According to King all he had to do at this point was to take his dream and transfer it to paper. Without a doubt, King s personal experiences can justify why he believes dreams are a way that people s minds illustrate the nature of their problems. Or maybe even illustrates the answer to their problem in symbolic language . After reading Stephen King s essay, it is easy to conclude that his dreams are extremely valuable to his writing. King makes it clear that he has a consistent writing habit, but an unpredictable though process. King also believes that a strong writer can dream while awake. Laws of restrictions on slander and public decency should be decided on the common law methodology and not by the interests of the liberal mob . For example, the previous use of nigger has been replaced by a more positive description, African American. The word cripple has been replaced first by disabled and then by physically challenged. A man living on the street is not to be referred to as a bum any longer. A bum must now be referred to as a transient.
