Affirmative Action Case Study
The use of affirmative action admissions practices in the United States colleges and universities has
been a source of contentious public debate and legal battles since the policy s inception in the 1960s
(e.g., Hopwood v. University of Texas Law School, 1996; Grutter v. Bollinger, 2003; Regents of the
University of California v. Bakke, 1978) (Bernhard et al., 2013). One of the first affirmative action
cases that were brought to the Supreme Court was in the Regents of University of California v. Bakke
(1978), the Supreme Court ruled that a university s use racial quotas in its admissions process was
unconstitutional, but a school s use of affirmative action (Bernhard et al., 2013). The University of

US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
Company Background: Takata Corporation, founded in 1933 in Shiga Prefecture, Japan as a textile
manufacturer using weaving technology to manufacture lifelines. Piqued by American research on
adding safety belts to cars, Takata began doing their own research in 1952 using parachute technology
to manufacturer seat belts. In 1973 Takata began to voluntarily participate in the U.S. National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. Takata was the only company out of six
other companies to clear the 32.3 mph crash standard. It was in 1979 that Takata began to research air
bags and begin developing child restraint systems. By 1983 Takata was supplying 800 air bags to

Since air bags are a standardized component within the final product, the slightest defect can wind up
affecting millions of vehicles. As safety is Takata s motto they should have better quality systems in
place that would minimize the number of defective standardized products given the sheer volume
produced. Takata ought to have taken a more diligent approach to the defects and addressed the public
s safety concerns sooner than six years after a death occurred as a result of their product. Furthermore,
Takata cited driver safety as the reason for its controversial refusal to comply with federal regulators
who want a national recall of its airbags. I believe that Takata was not prepared for a full scale recall
so they decided to pursue a more hands off approach which was truly not in their best interest.
Because Takata prolonged the recall investigation, they were faced with several penalties, fines and
fees and as a result of their lack of effort to correct the problem, company shares have fallen and
Takata is reporting a net loss. There is also the potential for Takata to lose some of their customers;
however, it is important to note that Takata is only one of three companies producing air bags. Due to
the minimal choices automakers have for suppliers with regards to air bags, it reasons that Takata
might not be concerned with their position in the supply chain as the automakers would not favor a
duopoly. It truly

Questions On Protocol And Protocol
2.3 What is a Protocol?
Protocol is nothing but set of guidelines, which supports the data exchange between the layers. The
guidelines describe what to do (the details like when and where to send the data, data format).
2.4 What is a Protocol Data Unit?
Telecommunication protocol create protocol data unit in sender side. This protocol data unit of
message is transmitted by using protocol. Each PDU have particular format and contains header
information in header information identify protocol type and send data to particular destination. The
type of data transmitted by protocol is called PDU.
2.5 What is Protocol Architecture? The protocol architecture is nothing but development of
communication protocols in network. Has multiple layers with many protocols.
2.6 What is TCP/IP?
The transmission control protocol/Internet protocol is used to transmit the data to hosts in network.
This is used in network topology communication establishment and data transmission purpose. TCP/IP
is a two layer protocol high layer is TCP and low layer is IP. Small packets data are transmitted by
TCP and it gets small packets grouped and form original data. IP protocol forward these data to
particular destination.

History Of The Pittsburgh Homestead Grays
Some people may think that the Pittsburgh Pirates were the only team to play in Pittsburgh, but that is
not true. The Pittsburgh Homestead Grays and the Pittsburgh Crawfords were the two Negro League
teams. The Homestead Grays started in 1912. The Grays played independently until they became a
part of the American Negro League in 1929. They only spent one season in the American Negro
League and were independent again until 1932. In 1932, the Grays joined the East West League. The
East West League only lasted that season. After a few more years of being independent, the Grays then
joined the National Negro League. This league lasted the rest of the thirteen years of the Grays. The
Grays were one of the most successful Negro League teams ever. The team acquired nine league titles,
and three Negro League World Series titles. The team s final season was in 1950 ( Baseball History ).

Samurai Vs Medieval Knights Essay
The Japanese Samurai and Medieval Knights are very similar, on many levels. They both have a Code
of Conduct, similar training techniques and they both play a vital role in the feudal system. They also
have a few differences, their armour and their weapons; when everything is taken into consideration,
they are more similar than they are different.
There were many similarities and differences between the Japanese samurais and the medieval knights
training, amour and codes of conduct. The medieval knights start training at the age of 7 and roughly
finish the age of 21. The Japanese samurais started training at the of 5 and roughly finished at the age

samurais and knights main role was to protect and defend their leader. Another similarity between the
two. The Damiyos would promise rewards to the samurais with salaries or gifts, including portions of
land; in return, the samurais promised to protect there country. () The knights would pledge their

Introduction
In early decades of the 18th century, privatization had been introduced into the market. This new
economy reforms started in western world, followed further by its implementation in Asian region in
later years. Privatization is a policy whereby the ownership of an entity or controlling right of an

This may results to either two conditions increase in unemployment rate or decreases in standard of
living due to cost saving policy implemented by the privatized firm.
Secondly, privatization also affects the welfare of the society as a whole. This can be explained by
examining again the orientation of the firm after being privatized. Theoretically, economic efficiency
can be divided into two categories, namely productive efficiency and allocative efficiency. Productive
efficiency is achieved if firms produce goods and services demanded by consumer, while allocative
efficiency is achieved if the goods produced were marketed to the right people. Right people here
means people who demands for the goods and capable to pay for it. Results from privatization is, the
market now will replace the real needs of people with those demanded item, given that it will yield
high profit for the firm. For example, basic needs like tap water and electricity is not available in
certain rural areas, but firms compete with each other to bid for mega projects in big cities. Here, firms
are no longer concern with their social responsibility towards public, but only interested in making
huge profit.

“What Are the Major Strengths and Weakness of Dworkin’s...
What are the major strengths and weakness of Dworkin s theory of law as compared to a positivist or
natural law perspective? Discuss.
Arguably one of the most influential legal theorists of the 20th century, Ronald Dworkin s dealings
with law s interpretation and integrity has lead to inevitable contradictions with that of positivist
ideology, with his work essentially revitalising a method of thinking that had long been considered
dead and buried. Perhaps most notoriously, Dworkin combated the positivist theory of his former
teacher and predecessor as Professor of Jurisprudence at Oxford University, H.L.A. Hart. When
comparing the two, it is apparent that Dworkin and Hart disagree on a plethora of issues, however
there exist several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As such, it is possible that numerous conflicting principles may exist in the one scenario. Dworkin
even goes further by introducing the concept of policy defining a policy as that kind of standard that
sets out a goal to be reached, generally an improvement in some economic, political, or social feature
of the community .
The famous US decision of Riggs v Palmer serves to illustrate a considerable strength in Dworkin s
argument concerning rules and principles. The New York court had to decide a case to determine
whether a grandson who poisoned his grandfather to obtain his inheritance was in fact able to collect
such an inheritance. At the time, there existed no statute or law that invalidated his claim as a
beneficiary due to his involvement in the murder. Furthermore, the applicable legal rule seemed to be
that legacies contained in legally valid testamentary dispositions are to be guaranteed by law in
accordance with the wishes of the testator. According to Hart, the court should, in this situation, be
decided upon pre existing law. Yet despite this, the court majority found that the grandson could not
inherit, instead appealing to moral reasoning by citing the principle that no one should be able to profit
from ones crimes. A similar decision based on principle was handed down 70 years later in the case of
Henningsen v Bloomfield Motors Inc. As a result of these cases, Dworkin is able

Classifications In Supreme Court Cases
When the Supreme Court is making decisions in cases involving discrimination, there are three
classifications and tests that are used to dictate whether such classification of a person is, in fact,
Constitutional. These three classifications and tests help in cases involving race, ethnicity, and
religion, gender, and economic status and age. They include the Suspect Classification and the Strict
Scrutiny Test, the Quasi Suspect Classifications and the Heightened Scrutiny Test, and the Rational
Basis Test. To begin with, the suspect classification works alongside the strict scrutiny test. The
suspect classification falls into play when a law is possibly considered unconstitutional because it
categorizes a person based upon their race, ethnicity,

are already dealing with a great deal of stress prenatally and postpartum and this increases the risk of

caused from stress and other factors in mothers can also be transferred to fathers which plays a role in
increased divorce rate (2 16). Depression in one parent can lead to depression in both parents due to
this transfer effect. Other factors that can be attribute to depression and depressive symptoms in
fathers include: lack of education, unemployment, finding parenting stressful, difficulties between the

Biography of Alexandre Dumas
Alexandre Dumas was a descendant of a nobleman and the son of a general (Benton), and continued
his family legacy by writing about 300 fiction and non fiction books, plus creating six different
periodicals (Benton). His writing styles and characters embody his life experiences as many writers
do, and provides the oppurtunity to look back in time to see parts of French social culture, for example
how its classes were defined and people s opinions on what was acceptable and what wasn t through
use of euphanisms. The main influences on Alexandre Dumas when writing The Count of Monte
Cristo were religion, especially Catholicism, his father, the French Revolution, the movement of
French Romanticism, and a man named Picaud. It is clear that during Dumas time in France, the
Catholic religion was clearly favored in France with articles like The Concordat of 1815, which
Kristen Hosack explains that, The agreement recognized Catholicism as the religion of the great
majority of citizens, and the clergy. (Hosack 32) and also the French Constitution of 1830, which,
although it promised freedom of religion, also gave compensation to ministers of the Catholic...
religion. (Halsall). These two documents were both publicised during Dumas life and prior to The
Count of Monte Cristo, so it is acceptable to say that Catholicism was the religion of France during
this era. Dumas makes constant references to God in Monte Cristo, and also creates a Christ
symbolism with Monte Cristo,

Vitro Fertilization ( Ivf ) Essay
Have you ever heard of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) ? Well, the term in vitro is Latin for in glass
.With IVF treatment, the egg is fertilized with sperm in a petri dish. Typically, many eggs are retrieved
from the biological mother (who may or may not be the intended parent), as not every egg will
fertilize, and not every fertilized egg will become a viable embryo. A few days after fertilization, the
best embryo or embryos are transferred to the mothers or surrogate s uterus via a catheter through
cervix. Any extra embryos may be cryopreserved (cooling them below the freezing point of water) for
future cycles. This method was pioneered by Robert G. Edwards, a retired Professor of Human
Reproduction at Cambridge University, was heralded as the Creator of Modern Reproductive
Medicine. He paired with Patrick Steptoe, a practicing Gynecologist at Oldam General Hospital who
pioneered the use of laparoscopy (a surgical procedure in which a fiber optic instrument is inserted
through the abdominal wall to view the organs in the abdomen or to permit a surgical procedure) in
gynecology. Their collaboration started in 1968 when Edwards attended a lecture that Steptoe gave on
laparoscopy at the Royal Society of Medicine in London. Both achieved gracefully in fertilization and
cell division of eggs in vitro in a petri dish with freshly extracted semen, but were unable to
successfully implant the fertilized egg into the female uterus until 1978. They manipulated hormone

is the aqueous layer. The purpose of shaking vigourously is to make sure that the 2 liquids mix
properly, giving us the desired product t pentyl chloride. Then we wash the organic layer with water. T

As many people know, the architects of many buildings have used a multitude of techniques and
methods from ancient architecture to build newer buildings. For example, the Capitol Building uses
Greek and Roman architecture in its columns, while the Washington Monument is in the style of an
Egyptian Obelisk. One of the monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, is based off the styles and methods
of the Architecture of the Parthenon. Because of this, there are many similarities, but also differences,

Poseidon, Aphrodite, and Athena. The patron Goddess of Athena was Athens, and the Athenians
believed that pleasing their patron Goddess would give them good luck and fortune. This may be one
of the reasons that Athena Parthenos and the Parthenon were built. Another believed reason that the
Parthenon was built was that the leader at the time, Pericles, wanted to show the power and wealth of
Athens. In comparison, the Lincoln Memorial was built to honor the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln.
One of the reasons that Bacon had for basing the memorial on the Parthenon was to draw a parallel

Reasons For Political Violence Occurs
It can be challenging to adequately explain why political violence occurs, but several political
scientists have created theoretical explanations to help in the process. These explanations include the
relative deprivation theory, cultural explanations, structural or institutional explanations, and
primordialism. I personally believe that relative deprivation offers the most leverage in explaining
why political violence occurs because it takes into account the variance of political violence and
shared characteristics across human nature. Primordialism is also known as the ancient hatred
argument and is concerned with blood relations between groups of people (Clay Fuller 2016d). This
explanation is often used to explain ethnic conflicts in which there is animosity between two or more
groups because of their biological makeup. This could potentially be used to help explain why the
conflict between the Tutsis and the Hutu occurred in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994. The Hutu
and the Tutsi are distinctly different ethnic populations in which the Hutu are short and stout while the
Tutsi are taller and generally have lighter skin tones (Marie Utumetsi 2004). These genetic differences
amongst the two groups created a society of separation, where in groups and out groups based on how
different populations look were created. As a result, it is easy to form relationships between the two
groups based on us versus them . There are several downfalls evident in primordialism,

The Sun Has Long Since The Darkness Of The Night
The sun had long since made its way across hemisphere, dipping behind the mountains. There was no
moon tonight, and what light there is, was swallowed up in the darkness of the night, although
watching a sunset was the last thing on my mind tonight.
I felt unsettle as I strode up to the corner bar, located in a neighborhood I would never be caught in

NASAAnd NOAAAnd The Scientific Exploration Of New Frontiers
Throughout our history, the scientific exploration of new frontiers has been at or near the top of the
American to do list . Today, the United States employs two agencies to do this crucial work: The
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Association (NOAA), which are responsible for the frontiers of outer space and the earth s oceans,
respectively. Over the years, both NASA and NOAA have provided us with enormous amounts of
extremely useful information; however the amount of federal funding given to NOAA s explorations
each year is very much less than the amount given to NASA. Financial figures show that each year,
NASA receives $3.8 Billion, while NOAA receives only $27.3 million ... Show more content on

Nevertheless, If NASA were to cut back on sending humans and instead send robots, they could save
bundles of cash, and possibly, in some cases, lives (Etzioni, Amitai). Because of the vast expanses of
space and the mystery that it contains, along with the action packed movies made about space that
captivate America even beyond their opening weekends, such as Star Wars, BattleStar Galactica, the
humorous Space Balls, etc, and the simple fear of not knowing what, or who, is or is not out there,
every person has some amount of curiosity in them in regard to the dark skies surrounding our earth. It
is simply human nature to want to discover the unknown (Boucher, Marc p.2). However, with the
same inner drive to discover space should come the intention of wanting to explore the ocean. Humans
have laid eyes on only about 5% of the oceans in entirety, and the necessary increase in funding would
allow for the other 95% to be seen and known. All the water on our Blue Planet covers roughly 71%
of the earth s surface. Luckily, NOAA researchers have used their inner curiosity and taken action,
finding out more and more about the five oceans that span the earth, and all the life that lives in them.

Interview Process Of Aging
To learn more about the process of aging, I have decided to conduct an interview with a man who is
approaching his sixty fifth birthday in the upcoming December. The main goal of this interview was to

will address the interviewee as Mr. P. P is the oldest sibling of three sisters and two brothers, who all
grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia and his father passed away when he was only ten years old. As the

The Great Depression
The great depression is one of the most well known economic events of the 20th century because the
economy of the United States collapsed from 1929 to 1933. This was the longest economic depression
in the history of the United States. Despite the positive outlook projected during Herbert Hoover s
campaign in 1928, a large portion of the population, and even many economists did not see the signs
of the crumbling economy. Surprisingly, the great depression emerged along with the positive
economic policies of President Hoover, and the promise to eliminate poverty from the United States.
In overview, it is important to understand the dimensions of the great depression, what caused it, why
the economic crises extended, and the contribution of the financial sector in progression of the
economic catastrophes of this time in American history.
Dimensions of the Great Depression
From 1929 to 1933, the United States economy was at standstill arousing fear and anguish among

What I Learned In My ASL Class
My experience was different from my last semester experience with the events because it was my first

I am a ASL student. Immediately they smile and let me know that I can do it just keep on practicing. I
met a tailor man that was in the business for many years and now he retired and became a preacher. I

class we sign certain verbs and nouns differently. So we both would ask different people was the
answer correct or not and they would tell us yes that both were correct but my signing was very much
so ASL. We laugh about it and he was like I better sign up for ASL if I want to be an interpreter.
Although to me it seemed like he was good at signing. He also knew that it was a lot of things that he

Modern Alchemy 1st Term Paper: The Philosopher s Stone
Thesis: In this paper, I will describe the history of the early alchemists quest for the Philosopher s
Stone, their ultimate and inevitable failure, and today s views and misunderstandings of alchemy and
the stone as a result of their actions.
If one simply purified god enough, the result would be the stone Unknown
Introduction
Lapis Philosophorum, the elixir of life, the white stone by the river, or drinkable gold The Philosopher
s Stone is a legendary material, purportedly capable of turning cheap metals into gold, curing any
illness, and bestowing immortality. The pursuit of its creation was nearly synonymous with alchemy
for centuries and it was out of these attempts that modern science was born. How did the stone
become an alchemical obsession and why was its creation ultimately abandoned? How has the stone

Powers of the Stone
The first great allure of the Philosopher s Stone is the power to change common metals into gold. The
secret of infinite wealth would explain why those who sought it shrouded their research in mystery.
The second supreme power of the stone was its ability to cure illness and extend lifespan. All
infirmities might be cured, human life prolonged to its utmost limits, and mankind preserved in health
and strength of body and mind, clearness and vigour. All wounds are healed by it without difficulty,
and it is the best and surest remedy against poisons Whether or not it could bestow immortality was
debated but this too would have been reason enough on its own to pursue the

Why Hong Kong Is a Consultative Government in the First...
Historian G.B. Endacott thought that the Hong Kong government was a consultative government. The
definition of a consultative government is that it consults people s opinions and listens to them. The
features of a consultative Government are that it establishes communication between local
associations, asks and listen to opinion of people, asks for opinion and support in decisions making,
sets up advisory bodies to collect opinions and set up departments to consult people s opinions. To a
large extent, I agree that the Hong Kong government was a consultative government in the first half of
the 20th century. To a small extent, I don t agree that the Hong Kong government was a consultative

communication with the Chinese people. The department was established in 1913. It carried out
different functions, involving it in almost all Chinese matters, like receiving complaints from the
Chinese and mediated and settled their disputes. It helped the government in knowing the local
Chinese people well. It assisted the government in liaising with Chinese associations so that it can
understand the public opinions. The department provided the government with information of the
Chinese, for example, the Chinese custom and religious belief, and helped explaining the policies to
the public. It helped the government to gain better understanding from the Chinese, especially before
the Second World War. To a smaller extent, I don t agree that Hong Kong was a consultative

power, including the executive power, legislative power, appointment power and some other powers.

The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans
In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage of,
what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards African
Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most people do
not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most
economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate how the
majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and intellectual
standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as other American
citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in the issues that are
affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been abused since the
beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers, the Native
Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an International law,
the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the term terra nullius, empty
land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to international law nor belong to a
recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the settlers made claim to the land
(Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the Native Americans helped them learn

Mary Meeker Biography Essay
Born in the early 1920 s, Mary Meeker s father saw great potential in his creative little girl. He vowed
to make sure she got to college, something which he had been unable to do. He fancied himself a
business man, so the family moved from place to place as he looked for the elusive perfect
opportunity. Every new school brought another Intelligence Test and eventually Mary skipped a grade.
Mary s sister who was learning disabled was often mistreated by the Nuns at one of the schools,
causing Mary to turn away from her religion. Her mother did not see her talent or creativity and was
often mean and abusive toward her children. As a result of these events, and recognizing that she and
her sister were at different ends of a spectrum, Mary vowed to advocate for the development of
diverse intellectual abilities. Educationally, Mary more than fulfilled her father s hopes as she gained a
Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and continued with
post graduate studies.
In a desperate need for teachers, California offered provisional teaching certificates to those with a
related degree, and Mary accepted. She was immediately assigned to students with severe
developmental delays. She didn t know how to teach them and there were no resources to draw upon.
Eventually she motivated the children s creativity by dancing and singing for much of the school year.
When Mary was re assigned, she got a Special Education Class and found that it had a

The Stigma Of The Homeless
During the Great Depression, the homeless were almost glamorized as vagabonds who rode the rails
with their belongings neatly tied up in a bandana over their shoulder. Today, the homeless can be
anyone: children or women escaping an abusive relationship or those who just cannot afford to pay for
housing. While some homeless people maintain employment of some sort, long term homelessness is
usually a function of the inverse; either severely under employed or no income stream at all with
which to pay rent and utilities. While quite a bit of academic research has shown the need to focus on
societal causes of homelessness, people who are homeless seem to be increasingly perceived and
treated within a paradigm of individual sickness. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
National estimates suggest that nearly 2 million youth experience homelessness (Rhodes, Wine Rice,
April 2014) and that between 5 25% of those have some sort of pet. While it appears that pet

homeless population. Homeless respondents also have stated that the general public tends to treat them
better or are more likely to talk to them because of their pets, with the pets acting as social facilitators

Research Paper On Catholic Faith
Criterion A: Rationale and Preliminary Research
The biggest living figure in the Catholic Faith is the Pope, who leads us everyday by spreading and
giving God s word. The Pope brings us closer to God in many different spiritual ways. The topic I
have chosen to pursue is, how someone can become the Pope. One of the main reasons I have chosen
this topic is because I am a very dedicated catholic and have been practicing my religion since I could
ever remember. Our current Pope right now is a inspiration to me and it really makes me interested in
what it takes to become Pope because when I listen to him speak I can see how confident he is and

There are about 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide that make up almost sixteen percent of the total world
Population. (BBC News) That is a tremendous amount of people. The Pope rules over all of those
people in the organization known as The Catholic Church. Becoming Pope is no simple task by any
means. Even when it seems that someone is very close to becoming the next Pope, the percentage of
them actually becoming Pope is very slim. In fact, just the odds of becoming Pope of someone is a
cardinal is less then one percent, and you must become a cardinal to be elected Pope. The odds are not
in anybody favor as they are 1,000 to 1(Kristi Barlette, Times Union, 12 Feb, 2013). Although. There
are few steps to becoming Pope; each step is a long, difficult practice. First, a person must be a male
and he must eventually become Catholic. The next step is to get an education, for religious studies and
other academic subjects as well. Then, the person must become a priest. He must do a good job in his
parish and connect with the community. After the person has spent some time and earned a great deal
of respect from other people, he will be addressed as Monsignor . He will then be put in for a
promotion where he will prove if he is worthy to continue to the next step of the process, becoming a
Bishop. The Bishop will continue to do exceptional work,

Government Censorship and Control in Brave New World
Imagine a society in which its citizens have forfeited all personal liberties for government protection
and stability; Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, explores a civilization in which this hypothetical has
become reality. The inevitable trade off of citizens freedoms for government protection traditionally
follows periods of war and terror. The voluntary degradation of the citizens rights begins with small,
benign steps to full, totalitarian control. Major methods for government control and censorship are
political, religious, economic, and moral avenues. Huxley s Brave New World provides a prophetic
glimpse of government censorship and control through technology; the citizens of the World State

The World State forbids the citizens from experiencing any negative emotion, for fear of losing
control. Soma, Latin for sleep, renders its users to a coma like blissful state, which Congdon describes,
borrowing the statement from Huxley himself, that soma allows the citizens to, periodically escape
from the pressure of routine and worldly cares (Congdon). Citizens are conditioned to use the drug at
the slightest challenge to the cultural norms, preventing any thoughts of rebellion or contempt against
the government.
Moreover, the World State explicitly harvests this religious emotion through requiring the citizens to
prescribe to their own self made religion, Fordism. As practitioners of Fordism, the citizens of the
World State revere real world Henry Ford as their savior. Huxley utilizes satirical comparisons
between Christianity and Fordism to illuminate that today s government utilizes Christianity in a
similar way, to quell the masses. Huxley uses obvious parodies such as switching Our Lord for Our
Ford and cutting the tops off all crosses so they resemble T s, a reference to Ford s Model T car, to
bring the truth to light without explicitly stating the fact. The followers of Ford also attend regular
Solidarity Services. These services are comprised of twelve individuals sitting around a table while

Sing A Musical Analysis
Is Sing a Classic?
What makes a classic movie, a classic? Some people may say it is the actors or actresses in the movie,
the directors, or the setting. Although all of these components are important in a movie, they do not
make the movie a classic. A classic movie is all about connection the movie makes with its audience.
The more emotion the movie can draw from its viewers, the more the viewers can connect with the
movie. Having a good plot and story is a must to consider a movie to be a classic. A classic movie also
needs to be memorable to the audience. With a classic it is all about the lasting impression on its
viewers (Weeks par. 5). The new 2016 movie, Sing, meets all the requirements to be a classic. Sing is
an animated musical comedy directed by Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet. Sing is rated PG,
and has won the Top Box Office Films from ASCAP Film and won Outstanding Music Supervision
from Hollywood Music In Media Awards in 2016 (Awards par. 1). The movie, Sing, is about a Koala
named Buster Moon who hosts a singing contest to help his failing theater business. Sing is a classic
movie that connects with the viewers, has a good story, and is memorable to the viewers.
What is a Classic?
In order for a movie to be considered a classic, a movie must possess three components. The movies
success is based on the audience, it is the audience that make the movie (Weeks par. 5). Movie critic

Social Engagement Affects An Individual s Life
As individuals age, they are more at risk for cognitive impairments. Although there are multiple forms
of these impairments, they mostly affect an individual s life overall. Some aspects of these cognitive
impairments are natural, whereas the course of aging may increase an individual s likelihood of
progressing to Alzheimer s or dementia. On the other hand, some aspects, such as physical activity and
social engagement, are able to be controlled by the individual which may decline the rate of cognitive
impairments, such as memory loss. There are three types of memory: working memory, short term
memory, and long term memory. Short term and working memories are similar in the fact that they

Prospective memory refers to the formation, storage, and retrieval and implementation of goals and
interactions (Braver West, 2008). This type plays a role in how memory is stored and organized. An
impact on memory and cognitive function as a whole includes social engagement. Social engagement
can be defined as being active and maintaining social connections (Hertzog, Kramer, Wilson,
Lindenberger, 2008). Having interactions with others results in less cognitive decline. Studies have
shown that individuals having social interactions daily weekly were roughly 40% less likely to
develop dementia (Foster, Cornwell, Kisley, Davis, 2007). This statistic shows that older adults
spending their time interacting with others and partaking in social activities will result in a reduced
risk of developing dementia or other diseases. Not only does social interaction have a positive effect
on cognitive function, physical activity does as well. Engaging in physical activity not only increases
blood flow distribution, it also benefits executive control tasks, such as planning and multitasking.
Cognitive changes take place in the aging adult who may result in memory loss, the brain regions

US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Company Background: Takata Corporation, founded in 1933 in Shiga Prefecture, Japan as a textile manufacturer using weaving technology to manufacture lifelines. Piqued by American research on adding safety belts to cars, Takata began doing their own research in 1952 using parachute technology to manufacturer seat belts. In 1973 Takata began to voluntarily participate in the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. Takata was the only company out of six other companies to clear the 32.3 mph crash standard. It was in 1979 that Takata began to research air bags and begin developing child restraint systems. Since air bags are a standardized component within the final product, the slightest defect can wind up affecting millions of vehicles. As safety is Takata s motto they should have better quality systems in place that would minimize the number of defective standardized products given the sheer volume produced. Takata ought to have taken a more diligent approach to the defects and addressed the public s safety concerns sooner than six years after a death occurred as a result of their product. Furthermore, Takata cited driver safety as the reason for its controversial refusal to comply with federal regulators who want a national recall of its airbags. I believe that Takata was not prepared for a full scale recall so they decided to pursue a more hands off approach which was truly not in their best interest. Because Takata prolonged the recall investigation, they were faced with several penalties, fines and fees and as a result of their lack of effort to correct the problem, company shares have fallen and Takata is reporting a net loss. There is also the potential for Takata to lose some of their customers; however, it is important to note that Takata is only one of three companies producing air bags. Due to the minimal choices automakers have for suppliers with regards to air bags, it reasons that Takata might not be concerned with their position in the supply chain as the automakers would not favor a duopoly. Discuss. Arguably one of the most influential legal theorists of the 20th century, Ronald Dworkin s dealings with law s interpretation and integrity has lead to inevitable contradictions with that of positivist ideology, with his work essentially revitalising a method of thinking that had long been considered dead and buried. Perhaps most notoriously, Dworkin combated the positivist theory of his former teacher and predecessor as Professor of Jurisprudence at Oxford University, H.L.A. Hart. As such, it is possible that numerous conflicting principles may exist in the one scenario. Dworkin even goes further by introducing the concept of policy defining a policy as that kind of standard that sets out a goal to be reached, generally an improvement in some economic, political, or social feature of the community . The famous US decision of Riggs v Palmer serves to illustrate a considerable strength in Dworkin s argument concerning rules and principles. The New York court had to decide a case to determine whether a grandson who poisoned his grandfather to obtain his inheritance was in fact able to collect such an inheritance. At the time, there existed no statute or law that invalidated his claim as a beneficiary due to his involvement in the murder. Furthermore, the applicable legal rule seemed to be that legacies contained in legally valid testamentary dispositions are to be guaranteed by law in accordance with the wishes of the testator. According to Hart, the court should, in this situation, be decided upon pre existing law. Yet despite this, the court majority found that the grandson could not inherit, instead appealing to moral reasoning by citing the principle that no one should be able to profit from ones crimes. A similar decision based on principle was handed down 70 years later in the case of Henningsen v Bloomfield Motors Inc. As a result of these cases, Dworkin is able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His writing styles and characters embody his life experiences as many writers do, and provides the oppurtunity to look back in time to see parts of French social culture, for example how its classes were defined and people s opinions on what was acceptable and what wasn t through use of euphanisms. The main influences on Alexandre Dumas when writing The Count of Monte Cristo were religion, especially Catholicism, his father, the French Revolution, the movement of French Romanticism, and a man named Picaud. It is clear that during Dumas time in France, the Catholic religion was clearly favored in France with articles like The Concordat of 1815, which Kristen Hosack explains that, The agreement recognized Catholicism as the religion of the great majority of citizens, and the clergy. Reasons For Political Violence Occurs It can be challenging to adequately explain why political violence occurs, but several political scientists have created theoretical explanations to help in the process. These explanations include the relative deprivation theory, cultural explanations, structural or institutional explanations, and primordialism. I personally believe that relative deprivation offers the most leverage in explaining why political violence occurs because it takes into account the variance of political violence and shared characteristics across human nature. Primordialism is also known as the ancient hatred argument and is concerned with blood relations between groups of people (Clay Fuller 2016d). This explanation is often used to explain ethnic conflicts in which there is animosity between two or more groups because of their biological makeup. This could potentially be used to help explain why the conflict between the Tutsis and the Hutu occurred in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994. The Hutu and the Tutsi are distinctly different ethnic populations in which the Hutu are short and stout while the Tutsi are taller and generally have lighter skin tones (Marie Utumetsi 2004). Despite the positive outlook projected during Herbert Hoover s campaign in 1928, a large portion of the population, and even many economists did not see the signs of the crumbling economy. Surprisingly, the great depression emerged along with the positive economic policies of President Hoover, and the promise to eliminate poverty from the United States. In overview, it is important to understand the dimensions of the great depression, what caused it, why the economic crises extended, and the contribution of the financial sector in progression of the economic catastrophes of this time in American history. Now I feel more comfortable and I was great with interacting and not being so standoffish. The more I go to the events, sign and speak to different individuals, I always let the community know that I am a ASL student. Immediately they smile and let me know that I can do it just keep on practicing. I met a tailor man that was in the business for many years and now he retired and became a preacher. Alchemy Thesis Theophilus Moss February 25, 2016 Modern Alchemy 1st Term Paper: The Philosopher s Stone Thesis: In this paper, I will describe the history of the early alchemists quest for the Philosopher s Stone, their ultimate and inevitable failure, and today s views and misunderstandings of alchemy and the stone as a result of their actions. If one simply purified god enough, the result would be the stone Unknown Introduction Lapis Philosophorum, the elixir of life, the white stone by the river, or drinkable gold The Philosopher s Stone is a legendary material, purportedly capable of turning cheap metals into gold, curing any illness, and bestowing immortality. The pursuit of its creation was nearly synonymous with alchemy for centuries and it was out of these attempts that modern science was born. • 32. Why Hong Kong Is a Consultative Government in the First... Historian G.B. Endacott thought that the Hong Kong government was a consultative government. The definition of a consultative government is that it consults people s opinions and listens to them. The features of a consultative Government are that it establishes communication between local associations, asks and listen to opinion of people, asks for opinion and support in decisions making, sets up advisory bodies to collect opinions and set up departments to consult people s opinions. The Hong Kong government relied on the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs to establish communication with the Chinese people. The department was established in 1913. It carried out different functions, involving it in almost all Chinese matters, like receiving complaints from the Chinese and mediated and settled their disputes. It helped the government in knowing the local Chinese people well. It assisted the government in liaising with Chinese associations so that it can understand the public opinions. The department provided the government with information of the Chinese, for example, the Chinese custom and religious belief, and helped explaining the policies to the public. The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage of, what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards African Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most people do not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate how the majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and intellectual standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as other American citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in the issues that are affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been abused since the beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers, the Native Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an International law, the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the term terra nullius, empty land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to international law nor belong to a recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the settlers made claim to the land (Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the Native Americans helped them learn to ... He vowed to make sure she got to college, something which he had been unable to do. He fancied himself a business man, so the family moved from place to place as he looked for the elusive perfect opportunity. Every new school brought another Intelligence Test and eventually Mary skipped a grade. Mary s sister who was learning disabled was often mistreated by the Nuns at one of the schools, causing Mary to turn away from her religion. Her mother did not see her talent or creativity and was often mean and abusive toward her children. As a result of these events, and recognizing that she and her sister were at different ends of a spectrum, Mary vowed to advocate for the development of diverse intellectual abilities. Educationally, Mary more than fulfilled her father s hopes as she gained a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and continued with post graduate studies. In a desperate need for teachers, California offered provisional teaching certificates to those with a related degree, and Mary accepted. She was immediately assigned to students with severe developmental delays. She didn t know how to teach them and there were no resources to draw upon. Eventually she motivated the children s creativity by dancing and singing for much of the school year. When Mary was re assigned, she got a Special Education Class and found that it had a ... The Stigma Of The Homeless During the Great Depression, the homeless were almost glamorized as vagabonds who rode the rails with their belongings neatly tied up in a bandana over their shoulder. While some homeless people maintain employment of some sort, long term homelessness is usually a function of the inverse; either severely under employed or no income stream at all with which to pay rent and utilities. The Pope brings us closer to God in many different spiritual ways. The topic I have chosen to pursue is, how someone can become the Pope. One of the main reasons I have chosen this topic is because I am a very dedicated catholic and have been practicing my religion since I could ever remember. Our current Pope right now is a inspiration to me and it really makes me interested in what it takes to become Pope because when I listen to him speak I can see how confident he is and how much courage he has, and that is what strong leaders are made of. (BBC News) That is a tremendous amount of people. The Pope rules over all of those people in the organization known as The Catholic Church. Becoming Pope is no simple task by any means. Even when it seems that someone is very close to becoming the next Pope, the percentage of them actually becoming Pope is very slim. In fact, just the odds of becoming Pope of someone is a cardinal is less then one percent, and you must become a cardinal to be elected Pope. The odds are not in anybody favor as they are 1,000 to 1(Kristi Barlette, Times Union, 12 Feb, 2013). Although. There are few steps to becoming Pope; each step is a long, difficult practice. First, a person must be a male and he must eventually become Catholic. The next step is to get an education, for religious studies and other academic subjects as well. Then, the person must become a priest. He must do a good job in his parish and connect with the community. After the person has spent some time and earned a great deal of respect from other people, he will be addressed as Monsignor . He will then be put in for a promotion where he will prove if he is worthy to continue to the next step of the process, becoming a Bishop. The Bishop will continue to do exceptional work, ... Government Censorship and Control in Brave New World Imagine a society in which its citizens have forfeited all personal liberties for government protection and stability; Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, explores a civilization in which this hypothetical has become reality. The inevitable trade off of citizens freedoms for government protection traditionally follows periods of war and terror. The voluntary degradation of the citizens rights begins with small, benign steps to full, totalitarian control. Major methods for government control and censorship are political, religious, economic, and moral avenues. Soma, Latin for sleep, renders its users to a coma like blissful state, which Congdon describes, borrowing the statement from Huxley himself, that soma allows the citizens to, periodically escape from the pressure of routine and worldly cares (Congdon). Citizens are conditioned to use the drug at the slightest challenge to the cultural norms, preventing any thoughts of rebellion or contempt against the government. Moreover, the World State explicitly harvests this religious emotion through requiring the citizens to prescribe to their own self made religion, Fordism. As practitioners of Fordism, the citizens of the World State revere real world Henry Ford as their savior. Huxley utilizes satirical comparisons between Christianity and Fordism to illuminate that today s government utilizes Christianity in a similar way, to quell the masses. Huxley uses obvious parodies such as switching Our Lord for Our Ford and cutting the tops off all crosses so they resemble T s, a reference to Ford s Model T car, to bring the truth to light without explicitly stating the fact. • 40. Sing A Musical Analysis Is Sing a Classic? What makes a classic movie, a classic? Some people may say it is the actors or actresses in the movie, the directors, or the setting. Although all of these components are important in a movie, they do not make the movie a classic. A classic movie is all about connection the movie makes with its audience. The more emotion the movie can draw from its viewers, the more the viewers can connect with the movie. Having a good plot and story is a must to consider a movie to be a classic. A classic movie also needs to be memorable to the audience. With a classic it is all about the lasting impression on its viewers (Weeks par. 5). The new 2016 movie, Sing, meets all the requirements to be a classic. Sing is an animated musical comedy directed by Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet. Sing is rated PG, and has won the Top Box Office Films from ASCAP Film and won Outstanding Music Supervision from Hollywood Music In Media Awards in 2016 (Awards par. 1). Prospective memory refers to the formation, storage, and retrieval and implementation of goals and interactions (Braver West, 2008). This type plays a role in how memory is stored and organized. An impact on memory and cognitive function as a whole includes social engagement. Social engagement can be defined as being active and maintaining social connections (Hertzog, Kramer, Wilson, Lindenberger, 2008). Having interactions with others results in less cognitive decline. Studies have shown that individuals having social interactions daily weekly were roughly 40% less likely to develop dementia (Foster, Cornwell, Kisley, Davis, 2007). This statistic shows that older adults spending their time interacting with others and partaking in social activities will result in a reduced risk of developing dementia or other diseases.
