It By Stephen King Compare And Contrast
Differences and changes have to be made in order to make something better. The book IT by Stephen
King shows this statement. Especially when comparing the book to both of the movies. When reading
this book and watching the movies the person doing so can see there are drastic differences. Such as
the children s fears, the time period of the setting, as well as the flashbacks. There weren t only
differences there were some similarities as well like the opening scene and the overall theme of the
book. As a whole, there were definitely more differences. To start off, in the book as well as both
movies all three had pretty much the exact same opening scene. It started with the boat that George
had made with his sick older brother Bill. The water was too fast and George couldn t catch up to it.
That is when the paper boat floated down into the sewer. This is when George meets the killer clown,
he didn t know would be the cause of his death. This is how all three start off. They meet the same
way and George still ends up dying. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One possible theme for this story line is Working together to face your fears. In the book as well as the
movies you can see the main characters working together to overcome each personal fear. The clown
Pennywise tries to beat them with their own personal fears thinking that the others will/can not help
the others. They end up proving him wrong throughout each of the timelines. In each one the
reader/watcher can see the protagonists overcome what is thrown at them by the antagonist and it s

Mary Pickford Research Paper Mary Pitchford or America s sweetheart was an iconic silent film
actress and overall great entertainer in just about all categories film related. Mary was born on April 8,
1892, in Toronto, Canada and after only five years on the planet she would begin performing for an
audience. Ten years later she would already find herself performing on Broadway in New York along
side some of the most talented actors in the world. Eventually, Mary would begin working outside the
stage and take a risk in a more recently developed artform. Mary and her luxurious curls would begin
working with D.W. Griffith s Biograph Studio starting in 1909 as a biographer starring in films, rather
than her upbringing of theatre. This job, along with future breakout roles in movies like Tess of the
Storm Country and many others would propel Mary into the limelight in the eyes of many. She would
become known by the public as the biograph girl or the girl with the golden curls along with many
other nicknames and soon would become the most popular and highest paid actress in America and
possibly the world. She also went on to be apart of forming the United Artists studio. It is easy to see
why Mary Pitchford is so important to film history as she shows the development of the first major
star in cinema. Mary began starring in many biograph films in a time where film wasn t popular nor

How Did Van Morrison Impact Society
If I were to ask you to recall an artist or band off of the top of your head that was most popular in the
60 s, I would probably hear the same two bands repeated to me over and over again. These two bands
would be the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and yes they did both have a great impact on the music
industry and society as a whole then and now, but they were not the only artists who positively
impacted the world as we know it today. One of the artists whom had and/or has said impact, is Van
Morrison. Van, in general, is a very brilliant musician and has broken through so many walls that
constrict any artist to just one genre of music. Every single one of his 35 albums has a different sound
to it, and this definitely allowed many artists, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bono, the lead vocalist of the band U2, has even stated that in times of creating music, that he had to
put down some of Van s albums in order to create his own music. Or in exact words Sometimes they

before making U2 s The Unforgettable Fire because I didn t want his very original soul voice to
overpower my own. (ROLLING STONES). Van Morrison has also had a large, and very important
influence on singer songwriters in not just America, but the world as a whole. Since Van has written
most, if not all, of his music so far in his career, the depths of his music have almost set a standard for
rising artists to reach, or even overcome. Songwriting can be a tricky process to match up with
instruments, and with the capability that Van possesses, this set the future of any singer songwriter at
an all time high, which definitely allows us today to experience some works of art that reach this level
of high quality music and definite

The Role of the Logistician in Defense Acquisitions
The Role of the Logistician in Defense Acquisitions
Instructor:
ABSTRACT
This paper will describe the role of the logistician throughout United States Department of Defense
acquisition programs and strategies. It will be chronologically approached from design, planning,
demonstration, refinement and sustainment phases. The role of the logistician will be characterized as
paramount to the overall success of acquisition efforts and ultimate success of our fighting men and
women in the field.
Introduction
The role of the logistician in the Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition process is one of the most
important to the successful life cycle of a system, subsystem, or process. It is the logistician who has

This will aid the logistician in the development of support resources and strategies. Logisticians, using
customer input from the warfighters requirements documents, must participate in the development of
the most cost effective method to support the system while allowing optimal performance of the
mission. This responsibility entails the greatest effort to ensure that all the needed elements of support
(technical manuals, spare parts, facilities, training, support equipment, etc.) are developed and
delivered to the customer within budget constraints. The logistics element of maintenance planning is
the most critical factor in influencing both supportability design characteristics and support resource
requirements. It is the process of arranging in an orderly manner, all elements of maintenance support
necessary to keep systems and equipment ready to perform assigned missions. Of all the noteworthy
elements of logistics support, maintenance planning tends to be the one element that has the greatest
influence on the other support elements as well as on the actual design of the end item. It is imperative
that the user identifies a maintenance concept as soon as possible, preferably in the conceptual study
phase, and that the acquisition community scrutinizes the concept for feasibility and affordability.
Supportability is a design characteristic that requires an early focus during maintenance planning to
identify support

The Era of Social Reform Essay
The Industrial Revolution was a period of in which fundamental changes occurred in agriculture,
factories, mining, transportation, machinery, economic policies, and in the social structure of England.
Industrialization began in Great Britain and it was a major turning point in history. It changed the way
countries produced its goods. England turned into an agricultural society to an industry and
manufacturing society. During this era, there was a huge impact on the growth of cities, employment
of skilled and unskilled workers, the role of women and families, and laws and national policies.

The population grew so rapidly, it increased 130 percent in 1800 to 1910 (Robert Edgar Pg. 667). This
led to the observation of Thomas Robert Malthus to forecast a tragic future of massive famine on a
global scale. In his Essay on Population he states the power of population is indefinitely greater than
the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man (Malthus Ch.1). In other words, human
reproduction would outrun the earth s ability to produce food. He believed that population, when
unchecked, increases in a geometrical ratio while food production increased only in arithmetic
progression (Malthus Ch.1). This led him to conclude that the fate of humanity would be misery. But
he did not conclude that Europe would keep up technological advancement and agricultural
innovation, and therefore, the population growth would keep up with the supply of food. Men worked
in factories and coal mines for long hours making little pay. Living in urban areas meant higher living
expenses and family resources would be insufficient. As a result, women and children were sent out to
work. The majority of these women and children worked mainly in factories or in coal mines. These
families needed to do this because they needed the money. Factory owners would gladly employ these

Childhood Is Seen As A Horror Experience
Childhood is often seen as a carefree time where children are able to grow and learn from the world
around them. Many people have fond memories of their time as a child and would do anything to get
it back. However, in Barrie s Peter Pan, childhood is seen as a horror experience. This novel is read in
stark contrast to Walt Disney s popular movie version of Peter Pan. Disney s version shows three
children on the adventure of their life. But, Barrie s Peter Pan is the exemplar of the childhood horror
experience because of the actions of the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling, the actions of the
character Captain James Hook, and the dangers inherent of being a child in this anarchistic place
called Neverland. With a name like Darling one may assume that the holder of that name would be an
inherently good person. However, this is not the case with the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling in
Barrie s Peter Pan. The behavior of these two characters toward their own children allows the true
childhood horror experience to be shown. For example, when Wendy Darling was born, Mr. Darling s
first action as a father was to calculate whether or not he and his wife could afford to keep their infant
daughter. With his wife still in bed, Mr. Darling . . . sat on the edge of Mrs. Darling s bed, holding her
hand and calculating expenses, while she looked at him imploringly (Barrie 8). This action from Mr.
Darling expressed the horrible truth that he valued any wealth that he and his wife

Chomsky And The War On Terror
We live in a day and age of hypocrisy and it seems that a majority don t acknowledge that we are all
total hypocrites. Noam Chomsky, a well known American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist,
logician, political commentator, social justice activist, and anarcho syndicalist advocate does an
elaborate job in his speech given at Harvard University, to make us question if there really is a war on
terror. Chomsky calls everybody a hypocrite and uses the U.S. Army Manual definition of terrorism to
argue that there can t be a war on terrorism because the U.S. is also a terrorist group itself. We can t
fight something if we ourselves do that same thing. Chomsky backs up his claim with many pieces of
evidence and facts about the U.S. involvement with terrorist actions. His argument is well put because
it does a good job in making us understand what is really happening with the U.S. and the war on
terror.
People are probably thinking Chomsky must be crazy, to call America a terrorist group. Americans
view America as a nation that fights terror and fail to look at all the reports and articles about the U.S.
actually doing acts that are defined to be terrorist acts. If you love America, then you must know about
the great document called The Declaration of Independence. It was written by one of our founding
fathers, Thomas Jefferson. People back in the day looked at Jefferson as a crazy person as well when
he wrote the document. How could he address a new type of governing and

Boston Marathon Bombing Research Paper
Security at Major Events
The Boston Marathon Bombing improved security at major events. One way the Boston Marathon
Bombing changed security was the cut down of bandits at the marathon. That was Mackenzie Lobby, a
frequent runner, swimmer and biker, having run the Boston Marathon before. Bandits are unregistered
runners that run in marathons across America. This was a good change because the marathon
administration will know who is registered to run in the marathon so they are able to check the past
histories of the runners and decrease malicious behavior in the actual marathon. This will also increase
the effectiveness of the marathon because there will be less of a crowd if all the runners are registered.
Another way the Boston Marathon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Since 9/11: Continued Lessons In Domestic Counterterrorism, Steven Bucci states; The third most
common target was mass gatherings, like the Boston Marathon, nightclubs and bars, and shopping
malls (Bucci). According to Bucci, mass gatherings have been a target for numerous years and the
Boston Marathon Bombing could have happened anywhere, from a mall, to another marathon. The
Boston Marathon Bombing brought the issue of terrorism in the U.S. back into international spotlight.
Another reason the bombing increased the study of terrorism is introduced by the Global Terrorism
Database. According to the Global Terrorism Database, the amount of attacks and deaths per year are
increasing from 2013. This is important because the Boston Marathon Bombings could have had an
influence on these attacks. This also increased the study of the causes and motives of terrorism and
throughout studies, many have been Jihadists, who were doing the attacks to side with their beliefs.
According to the Johnston Archive, which was created by a Scientist that studied terrorism, there have

Benefits Of The Great Wall Of China
The Great Wall of China is the world s longest wall and biggest ancient architecture. The Great Wall
was finished/opened in 206 BC which meant that the Great Wall took approximately 20 years to
build.. There are several reasons why the benefits outweighed the costs, such as, the Great Wall
protected China, there would be no more Xiongnu invasions, and the Great Wall follows the famed
Silk Road. So, the benefits outweighed the costs in my opinion. To start, the Great Wall protected
China. This meant that there would be no more Xiongnu invasions. The Xiongnu were a fierce and
threatening group of nomads. Also, this means that there would be no other invasions from any other
group or tribe. The Great Wall would prevent anything else than invasions.

Military Planning For The First Time During World War II
Since the Cold War, scholars utilizing a military and state centric approach to the study of regime
security such as Paul Williams, Joseph Nye and Sean Lynn Jones, and Stephen Walt have made
significant contributions to the literature on security studies. While these authors present unique
viewpoints, they all tend share the perspective that major international conflict has been a key factor in
the development of this field. Stephen Walt pointed out that the idea of security studies first emerged
as a result of civilians becom[ing] extensively involved in military planning for the first time during
World War II. This surge in civilian interest during the war led to an era of security studies known as
the Golden Age during which Paul Williams indicated that civilian strategists enjoyed relatively close
connections with Western governments and their foreign and security policies. The enthusiasm for this
area of study was maintained for a substantial amount of time due to what Joseph Nye called the
unprecedented nature of security problems confronting the United States , which were mostly brought
about by the advent of the atomic age. Several forces however, would eventually counteract the uptick
in interest; principle among them was the negative perception of the Vietnam War. Walt highlighted
this idea stating the debacle in Indochina ... made the study of security affairs unfashionable in many
universities. Fortunately for the progression of the field, this

Christian Persecutions
Throughout the first four centuries, Christianity began to plant its roots and establish itself as a
legitimate religious presence. However, just as the Christians battled other religious presences over
what are correct teachings and practices, they also were prompted by the Roman Empire to conform or
face consequences. These consequences came in the form of a series of persecutions, which in turn,
triggered different responses from the Christians. The persecutions of Christians occurred over a span
of ten Roman Emperors and about three hundred years. Thus, over the years of persecution, numerous
reasons arose that caused this treatment of Christians by the Roman Empire. During the latter half of
the first century, Christianity was becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attacks on the Christians could not be formed due to the Empire s lack of stability at the end of the
third century. However, at the end of the third century and beginning of the fourth century, under
Diocletian, the Empire was revamped and the peace ceased. Diocletian believed that the Christians
were a hindrance to the Empire s unity, which angered the gods. In 303, Diocletian launched a purge
of Christians throughout the Empire. During the attack, churches and scriptures were to be destroyed
and the rights of Christians were taken away (Euseb. H.E.). Then, following a Christian rebellion in
Syria, Diocletian had all clergy imprisoned due to this rebellion proving the Christians as a physical
threat. Also, the execution of more than two hundred Christians at Nicomedia occurred because of the
out lash in Syria. Finally, a order of people to make a sacrifice to Roman gods was established, but
received resistance from Christians despite imprisonment and torture. Although the events in this
persecution were the most gruesome, the Empire did not have the ability to wipe out the Christians via
purge due to the Christian growth that had occurred over the four

Essay on Government Spending, Deficits, and Keynesian...
A growing government is opposite to America s economic interests because the various methods of
financing a government taxes, borrowing, and printing money have harmful effects upon the economy.
There are many reasons why there is a high deficit in the United States such as extensive spending.
This is true because government spending is often economically destructive, regardless of how it is
financed. There are many causes of the steady growth in U.S. trade deficits. There are many people
are against the high deficits especially economists.
Economists define government intervention in the foreign exchange market as the buying or selling of

Yes, the reason for the high budget deficit matter because many economists feels as though this will
eventually affect our children and/or even our grandchildren. Not only that we must know how to
budget the money. The government needs to know if they need to offer higher interest rates to attract
enough buyers of government debt. Excess amount of borrowing adds to the National debt which
means the Government has to spend more each year. Another reason why it matters we need to cut out
and/or investigate where the wasteful spending is going and if we need to cut back on public sector
spending or by raising the burden. There are few programs I think that we could cut to help in our
financial situation right now such as public assistance. I am all for helping people in need especially
children, senior citizens, and disabled. However, I am not willing to offer or give assistance to a
person who abuses the system. I know several people who receive public assistance and they are
perfectly stable enough to work, but they rather not. If you have been on the program more than 5
years you should be released. We have allowed some people to take advantage and it has put a minor
dent into the United States spending.

How Whistleblowing Is A Major Issue For Private Organizations
Kyler Wilson December 6, 2016 Professional Ethics Final Paper Whistleblowing can be a major issue
for private organizations who may bend or break the rules to get an upper hand in the business world.
This can be a key threat to both every day employees as well as middle and upper management level
positions. The two articles being looked at for this argument are both one that supports whistleblowing
in the workplace as well as another article that argues against whistleblowing. The article supporting
whistleblowing is titled Why are there so few whistleblowers? Blame evolution, and is written by Paul
Rauwolf and Dominic Mitchell, who have both earned their PhD s from the University of Bath. The
article was published in the Washington Post. The theory that most supports this article are the ideas of
Kant. The title of the article against whistleblowing is titled Why Are Some Whistleblowers Vilified
and Others Celebrated? The article is written by David M. Mayer, he is a writer for the Harvard
Business Review. This article was published by the Harvard Business Review. The theory supporting
this article is utilitarianism, this can be seen through the importance of doing what is best for everyone
involved, not just yourself. The third theory that can be argued is the idea of W.D. Ross and his prima
facia duties. The concept of whistleblowing can be a touchy subject in the professional world, but it
can be a vital towards promoting a healthy and stable work environment. The

Differences Between Arcite And Palamon
In Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales he depicts a short story, The Knight s Tale , describing the
lives two young cousins named Arcite and Palamon. These two men are from the kingdom of Thebes,
which was under the rule of Creon, until it was defeated by Theseus, Duke of Athens. Arcite and
Palamon are found and brought back to Athens to be imprisoned for the remainder of their lives. This
short story depicts the tale of the fight between Arcite and Palamon over a beautiful woman, Emily.

A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats
A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats
William Blake, John Keats and William Wordsworth all believe in the depth of the world and the
possibilities of the human heart. However, each poet looks towards different periods in time to capture
meaning in life. Blake looks towards the future for his inspiration, Keats towards the present and
Wordsworth towards the past. Regardless of where each poet looks for their inspiration they are all
looking for the same thing; timeless innocence. Each poet sought to transcend time by creating works
that dealt with life, death, hope and imagination and to discover some kind of deep truth or meaning in
existence. Life and death is an issue that we will all have to deal with at some point in our life ... Show

Technological advancement and social progress were steps backwards for Wordsworth and thus he
looked to the past for his inspiration.
John Keats did not have the luxury time that Wordsworth had to look to the past and reminisce about
things that were because he knew he did not have long to live. Even from a young age Keats felt his
life would be a short one and he so he applied himself to his art with a desperate urgency . Keats died
at twenty six years old and managed to leave behind some of the greatest poetry ever written. He didn
t bother to look toward the future because he knew that he wouldn t live to see it and he didn t look to
the past because he decided that it was more important to live in the moment.
Keats was very aware of his own mortality and his poetry reflected the intensity and the passion of a
man who didn t have very long to live. His poetry remains some of the densest prose ever penned
because, like his brief existence, he had to condense so much life into so little space. The thought of
impending death would be enough to make anyone fall into hopeless despair but Keats s incredible
talents and commitment to live in the moment perhaps allowed him to three lifetimes. The Chimney
Sweeper is a quintessential Blake poem as it embodies his belief in looking towards the future for
hope and comfort. Additionally, the poem is a perfect example of a child s movement from innocence

you. In both stories of Mirror Image by Lena Coakley and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes they
have a common theme of identity and about how you find yourself. For both the characters in the story
they find themselves finally by first losing themselves. For example in the short story of Mirror
Image, Alice is a character who struggles to find herself and tries to understand if this is truly who she
is. The situation of Alice is that she is the first to successfully have her brain transplanted in a new
body, and due to this she is struggling to find her own identity. ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Drinking Age
As teenagers ourselves, we know that most will want to be rebellious at some point. An illegal option,
alcohol makes for a perfect way for teens to be rebellious. With a minimum legal drinking age of 21,
many teenagers are able to use drinking as a rebellious act. If the drinking age were 18, it would be
different. A 19 year old could not drink to rebel. A large part of what makes alcohol so appealing to
teenagers is its forbidden nature. Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest. People want what they cannot
have. Having a minimum legal drinking age of 18 would eliminate the desirable forbidden aspect,
thereby making drinking less attractive to teens.
Pretend two teenagers are drinking. One gets hurt and needs medical attention. It is likely that the
other teen will hesitate to take the injured friend to get the needed attention due to fear that they will
both get in trouble. Lowering the drinking will eliminate this situation. It will reduce the number of
underage people having alcohol related injuries due to fear of the consequence. According to the
article Should the Drinking Age Be Lowered from 21 to a Younger Age? , 17 states and Washington,
DC will allow underage drinkers to report injuries without punishment. That means in 33 states,
injuries could be going untreated out of fear. Recently, a 20 year old died at a Florida State College
fraternity party where police found alcoholic beverage bottles (Hechtman). Medical personnel could

The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay
The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia,
mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the
themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve
similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original
movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the
location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of
communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. However, during 2004, only three years after
the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about ... Show more content on

The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to
stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark
contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used to
convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband, Senator Iselin,
presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state
department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the
red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to get
rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake number of
communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in the film. The
1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and
conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major Marco in a
constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told
by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the
remake, Major Marco and the

Leslie Marmon Silko is dedicated to the cause of reviving Native American culture and literature, and
her reputation stands tall as one of the most prominent contemporary Native American writers. She
has integrated a strong Native American color to her works by perfectly mixing diversified genres into
varied literary pieces, by connecting the writing closely to nature, and by implementing oral tradition,

and an intense awareness of Native Americans. Her writings reflect the complex nature of Native
American identity formation. Silko s writings explicate harmonious coexistence and syncretism as
best way towards the survival of Native American identity and the maintenance of cultural continuity.
The analysis should help to contribute some insights into a reciprocity and smooth communication

With a higher rate, students can save more money helping with later on expenses. These students will
be able to look into their future but, this time, with less debt due to student loans. Increasing the
minimum wage will take off a burden for student loans, country wide. Branching off of financial aid
for education, think of all the other financial benefits that the government offers. Such as social
security, food stamps, and healthcare. With the prosperity of our economy, these things will be less of
a burden on our government and everyday tax payers. This increase in minimum wage will help
everyone overall. Health care will become cheaper due to the fact that companies are paying their
employees a fixed rate that they can live comfortably with. As the rate increases we will see the use of
food stamps dwindle. There will be no need for these food stamps when families can afford their
groceries and necessities with their own cash, due to a higher minimum wage. Social Security will
gain more money from the employee s checks, helping later generations. This higher income will give
the elderly more support with their social security income. When the minimum wage is higher, our
daily and life lasting necessities will be benefited greatly. Our economy is a major reason whether you

Population Growth in Perspective Essays
Population Growth in Perspective
Introduction
To anyone even remotely acquainted with the situation, the ever expanding world population can
easily be a cause of grave concern. Indeed, the simple realization that the total world population will
most likely be doubling within the next century may seem to imply catastrophe. Considering the strain
our current huge population puts on the world, is it not natural to presume that two times our number
will spell disaster? While this is the view held by many prominent voices, there also is a less noticed
group of people who contend that the resiliency of the earth and the ingenuity of its people will keep
the planet a decent place to live.
In this paper, I attempt to critically examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, people have operated under the assumption that the world was (or was on its way to being)
overpopulated.
I began my research in this topic with the same outlook. I initially wanted to research overpopulation
because I was deeply concerned with its implications. I wanted to understand the causes of population
growth and to learn what might be done to ameliorate the problem. Soon into the research, however, I
happened upon pieces of literature opposing the idea of an overpopulation crisis and immediately
respected certain aspects of their arguments. Quickly, I was forced to change the scope of my question
from what will be the consequences of overpopulation? to what exactly does overpopulation mean?
and does an overpopulation problem even exist? .
History of Population Crises
The seed of my doubt that an overpopulation crisis was imminent was planted when I began to
examine the historical record of population concerns. As a history major, I have at least some respect
for patterns in history. While I recognize that new things can emerge, often a current event is a variant
on an earlier expressed theme.
Regarding population, the first documented concerns over population size date from a Babylonian
epic from 1600 BC (Cohen, 1995). More writings on the topic across the globe have continued since
then, themselves probably increasing at a rate faster than the

preventative measure to keep snow and ice off your roof, and should be done when it is safe to do so

Buying an extendable roof rake will allow you to easily pull down snow that has collected on the roof

gutters will not leave any room for water runoff to go, which brings the snow and ice closer to your

President Carter Was A Good Guy
Everyone wants to be remembered after they die. For an American president, they are guaranteed
remembrance. However, the main concern becomes how will their presidency be thought of? Will a
positive or negative light reflect on their pages of the history textbooks? The last six presidents have
left lasting legacies for the American people. Whether for good or not so good, these presidents have
shaped the future of America. Jimmy Carter was a good guy. Unlike so many presidents before him,
Carter came from a humble background with solid Southern Baptist roots. Unfortunately, he ended up
in the wrong office at the wrong time. Carter inherited the economic problems left over from the
Nixon and Ford presidencies. Between Stagflation and the Iranian Hostage crisis, Carter could not
catch a break. These events would taint the Carter legacy in the eyes of the American people for
decades to come. Perhaps if Carter had inherited a clean slate economically speaking, he might have
left a more endearing legacy to his name. Still, Carter s attempt to reconcile Israel and Egypt allowed
for God s blessings on America because of the kindness Jimmy Carter showed Israel. Sometimes good

Ozone Pollution Essay
The Effects of Ozone Pollution
The term ozone has appeared in numerous magazine and newspaper articles and has been a subject of
discussion on both radio and television. Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however,
many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial
and harmful. We know that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere acts as a filter for the sun s
ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches the earth s surface. At ground level,
though, high concentrations of ozone can be harmful.
The Ozone Layer
Ozone gas forms a layer all around the earth high in the stratosphere. It serves as a vital and effective

Stay indoors as much as possible.
Limit outside activities to the early morning hours or after sunset. Ozone levels tend to go down with

Stay away from high traffic areas, and avoid exercising near these areas at all times.

The distinction between the two ozone issues — the beneficial ozone layer versus ozone pollution — is

produced by the effects of sunlight on air pollutants must be reduced.

Child Poverty And Its Effects On Children
Child Poverty in Canada
Grace Abbott once said, Child labor and poverty are inevitably bound together and if you continue to
use the labor of children as the treatment for the social disease of poverty, you will have both poverty
and child labor to the end of time. Child poverty is one of the biggest issues facing Canadian children
today. Child poverty can significantly shorten a child s life. One of the major reasons child poverty in
Canada is so high is because of low wages. These children have a disadvantage to all the other
children in Canada. There is major inequality among these children. There are many problems that
come out of child poverty and effect the children directly. This paper will talk about the four major
effects of child poverty; health issues and nutrition, emotional and behavioural issues, education, and
their home environment. (Introduction: dimensions of children s inequality, 2003).
Health Issues and Nutrition
Child poverty can have many effects on children, one being health problems. A widespread method to
family and community health is authoritative to provide children with the finest upbringing.
Nonetheless, restricted access to health services and appropriate programs are often seen as serious.

Neonatal Cerebral Hypoxia Ischemia ( Hi ) Remains A Major...
Neonatal cerebral hypoxia ischemia (HI) remains a major cause of death and neurological disability.
Neural stem cells (NSCs) shows great promise in restoring HI associated neurological tissue damage
and hypothermia is reported to be beneficial for HI recovery in animal studies. We aimed to
investigate whether mild hypothermia after neonatal cerebral hypoxia ischemia (HI) could enhance the
therapeutic effect of NSCs transplantation with a neonatal HI mouse model. Postnatal day 7 mice
underwent right common carotid artery ligation followed by 1.5 h of hypoxia. After HI, these mice
underwent different treatments with hypothermia, NSCs transplantation, or both. Animals were
sacrificed at 24, 48, 72 h and 1, 2, 4 week after the HI. The numbers of apoptotic cells, survived, and
differentiated grafted cells were counted. The levels of caspase 3 and NF κB protein were analyzed.
And the restoration of sensorimotor and behavioral functions of HI mice was assessed. We found

  • 2. It By Stephen King Compare And Contrast Differences and changes have to be made in order to make something better. The book IT by Stephen King shows this statement. Especially when comparing the book to both of the movies. When reading this book and watching the movies the person doing so can see there are drastic differences. Such as the children s fears, the time period of the setting, as well as the flashbacks. There weren t only differences there were some similarities as well like the opening scene and the overall theme of the book. As a whole, there were definitely more differences. To start off, in the book as well as both movies all three had pretty much the exact same opening scene. It started with the boat that George had made with his sick older brother Bill. The water was too fast and George couldn t catch up to it. That is when the paper boat floated down into the sewer. This is when George meets the killer clown, he didn t know would be the cause of his death. This is how all three start off. They meet the same way and George still ends up dying. ... The logistics element of maintenance planning is the most critical factor in influencing both supportability design characteristics and support resource requirements. It is the process of arranging in an orderly manner, all elements of maintenance support necessary to keep systems and equipment ready to perform assigned missions. • 9. Childhood Is Seen As A Horror Experience Childhood is often seen as a carefree time where children are able to grow and learn from the world around them. Many people have fond memories of their time as a child and would do anything to get it back. However, in Barrie s Peter Pan, childhood is seen as a horror experience. This novel is read in stark contrast to Walt Disney s popular movie version of Peter Pan. Disney s version shows three children on the adventure of their life. But, Barrie s Peter Pan is the exemplar of the childhood horror experience because of the actions of the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling, the actions of the character Captain James Hook, and the dangers inherent of being a child in this anarchistic place called Neverland. With a name like Darling one may assume that the holder of that name would be an inherently good person. However, this is not the case with the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling in Barrie s Peter Pan. The behavior of these two characters toward their own children allows the true childhood horror experience to be shown. For example, when Wendy Darling was born, Mr. Darling s first action as a father was to calculate whether or not he and his wife could afford to keep their infant daughter. With his wife still in bed, Mr. Darling . . . sat on the edge of Mrs. Darling s bed, holding her hand and calculating expenses, while she looked at him imploringly (Barrie 8). This action from Mr. Darling expressed the horrible truth that he valued any wealth that he and his wife ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chomsky calls everybody a hypocrite and uses the U.S. Army Manual definition of terrorism to argue that there can t be a war on terrorism because the U.S. is also a terrorist group itself. We can t fight something if we ourselves do that same thing. Chomsky backs up his claim with many pieces of evidence and facts about the U.S. involvement with terrorist actions. His argument is well put because it does a good job in making us understand what is really happening with the U.S. and the war on terror. People are probably thinking Chomsky must be crazy, to call America a terrorist group. Americans view America as a nation that fights terror and fail to look at all the reports and articles about the U.S. actually doing acts that are defined to be terrorist acts. While these authors present unique viewpoints, they all tend share the perspective that major international conflict has been a key factor in the development of this field. Stephen Walt pointed out that the idea of security studies first emerged as a result of civilians becom[ing] extensively involved in military planning for the first time during World War II. This surge in civilian interest during the war led to an era of security studies known as the Golden Age during which Paul Williams indicated that civilian strategists enjoyed relatively close connections with Western governments and their foreign and security policies. The enthusiasm for this area of study was maintained for a substantial amount of time due to what Joseph Nye called the unprecedented nature of security problems confronting the United States , which were mostly brought about by the advent of the atomic age. • 26. The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia, mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband, Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the ... I initially wanted to research overpopulation because I was deeply concerned with its implications. I wanted to understand the causes of population growth and to learn what might be done to ameliorate the problem. Soon into the research, however, I happened upon pieces of literature opposing the idea of an overpopulation crisis and immediately respected certain aspects of their arguments. Quickly, I was forced to change the scope of my question from what will be the consequences of overpopulation? to what exactly does overpopulation mean? and does an overpopulation problem even exist? . History of Population Crises The seed of my doubt that an overpopulation crisis was imminent was planted when I began to examine the historical record of population concerns. As a history major, I have at least some respect for patterns in history. While I recognize that new things can emerge, often a current event is a variant on an earlier expressed theme. Neural stem cells (NSCs) shows great promise in restoring HI associated neurological tissue damage and hypothermia is reported to be beneficial for HI recovery in animal studies. We aimed to investigate whether mild hypothermia after neonatal cerebral hypoxia ischemia (HI) could enhance the therapeutic effect of NSCs transplantation with a neonatal HI mouse model. Postnatal day 7 mice underwent right common carotid artery ligation followed by 1.5 h of hypoxia. After HI, these mice underwent different treatments with hypothermia, NSCs transplantation, or both. Animals were sacrificed at 24, 48, 72 h and 1, 2, 4 week after the HI. The numbers of apoptotic cells, survived, and differentiated grafted cells were counted. The levels of caspase 3 and NF κB protein were analyzed. And the restoration of sensorimotor and behavioral functions of HI mice was assessed. We found caspase 3 dependent apoptosis and inflammation were significantly lower in the NSCs+hypothermia group. Meanwhile, transplanted cells survived and differentiated better in the NSCs+hypothermia group, and animals of this group exhibited enhanced functional recovery in sensorimotor and behavioral tests. These observations suggest that mild hypothermia enhances the therapeutic effect of NSCs in HI mice through protecting grafted cells, suppressing apoptosis, and attenuating NF κB signaling.
