Orthograpic system
The orthographic system is a representation method that defines elements based on their orthogonal projections onto at least two planes. It uses three common views - the elevation view from the front, the plan view from above, and the profile view from the side. Elements are defined by their projections onto the vertical, horizontal, and profile planes.
Plane
This document describes different types of planes used in orthographic projection systems. An orthographic projection system uses vertical, horizontal, and oblique planes to project 3D objects into 2D drawings. The planes include the vertical projecting plane, horizontal projecting plane, vertical plane, horizontal plane, and planes parallel to the ground line, which are used to visually represent 3D objects from different angles in a 2D drawing.
Point
A point in 3D space projects to two 2D points in orthographic projection. One point is the horizontal projection plane (HP) and the other is the vertical projection plane (VP). The HP turns 90 degrees around the ground line to meet the VP. Different points in different quadrants of 3D space will have different orthographic projections, with each point projecting to two locations, one each on the HP and VP.
Line
The document describes several types of lines that comprise an orthographic projection system used for technical drawings:
1) Straight lines can be parallel or perpendicular to reference planes.
2) Oblique lines intersect reference planes at angles other than 90 degrees.
3) Frontal, horizontal, and vertical lines are parallel or perpendicular to specific reference planes.
4) An extreme line is perpendicular to the picture plane.
Types of angles and triangles
There are three types of angles: right angles which measure 90 degrees, obtuse angles which measure more than 90 degrees, and acute angles which measure less than 90 degrees. There are also three types of triangles classified by their sides: equilateral triangles have three equal sides and three equal 60 degree angles, isosceles triangles have two equal sides and two equal angles, and scalene triangles have no equal sides and no equal angles.
