The teacher is providing an overview of their class and lesson plan for day one of teaching about life in the early American colonies. The class has 13 male and 10 female students who are primarily Caucasian from rural West Virginia. The lesson objectives are for students to understand what life was like in the colonies before the Revolutionary War. Students will complete assignments using computers, the internet, and paper including a web quest on colonial life, a worksheet comparing their assigned colony to others, and summarizing a blog post about early American colonial life. The teacher wants all students to participate and will provide feedback on their work. Based on student feedback, the teacher may look for a more engaging blog for future lessons.

2. ANALYZE LEARNERS
I am teaching a class room in rural West Virginia.
My class consists of 13 males and 10 females. The
breakdown of the class is that 90% are Caucasian
with 5% African American and 5% Latino. There
are no learning disabilities in the class, but there is
one child who is wheel chair bound and will not be
able to participate in any physical activities. They
have somewhat limited resources since they are
from poorer homes, but they all have access to
computers, internet, and cell phones.

3. DAY 1 OBJECTIVES
On day one I want to give the students a feel for
what the American colonies were like before the
revolutionary war was started. Originally they were
adventurous, successful, relatively peaceful plots
of land that just happened to be under the control
of the British Empire. I want students to have a
firm understanding of life in the the colonies
before the war.

4. SELECTING METHODS
AND MEDIA
- Students will use computers and the internet to
complete a web quest.
- Students will complete paper and pencil to
complete a worksheet that I will print out for
them.
- Students will read and summarize a blog that I
post the link to on early American colonial life.

5. UTILIZING MEDIA &
MATERIALS
-Students will complete a web quest of my own creation
about the early colonies. This will give them a certain
understanding of the different regions of the colonies and
what was their importance.
-This worksheet will have general questions about a colony.
Then each student will have to find the answer for their
specific colony and write them down. Then at the end each
student will present their colonies traits.
-The blog that I am posting for them to read has very good
information on early American life and how they lived. I want
students to read and write a summary on the blog I assign.

6. REQUIRE LEARNER
PARTICIPATION
- All of my class must participate in these
assignments. While they may seem monotonous at
times they all include valuable lessons. I will be the
one grading the web quests and the summaries of
the blog. For the worksheet their peers will give
them feedback and compare answers about their
specific colony that they were assigned. This way
all the assignments will have some kind of
feedback.

7. EVALUATE AND
REVISE
-The students reacted pretty well to the
assignments. They thouroughly enjoyed the
worksheet/presentation while they did not enjoy
the blog as much. Even though there was a lot of
pictures it was quite a heavy read. So maybe next
time I will find a way to spice up the blog reading
to make it more entertaining.
