Writing an essay on the topic "As I Lay Dying Essay Topics" can be a challenging task, as it
requires a deep understanding of William Faulkner's novel, "As I Lay Dying," and the ability to
critically analyze its themes, characters, and literary techniques. This novel is known for its
complex narrative structure, with multiple perspectives and a stream-of-consciousness style that

To tackle this essay, one must delve into the intricacies of the characters, exploring their
motivations, relationships, and the impact they have on the overall storyline. Moreover,

I settled on the bus in my regular seat on my regular bus on my regular route,
thinking about my classes today. Little did I know about the weird day I was
going to have today. My morning started out regular enough. Just then the bus
squealed to a stop. I entered the building to find my friend David waiting for me as
usual. Open Clash Royale he begged. I took out my phone and started playing. As
soon as I finished playing my third round, the bell rang across the school. School has
begun. I would have never guessed that today would not be an ordinary day.
I didn t know, but I felt something was wrong. My stomach as started to growl. I was

I didn t eat lunch yet, so I was confused, yet I had my question priorities. How do I
turn back? And, how do you know my name? Hello? Thomas, are you in there?!
David shouted. The alien whispered in a small voice He cannot see me. I somehow
understood that David would not take seeing an alien nor my zombie body lightly.
I replied shouting, I m OK! I heard his footstep walk away. Anyway the alien
continued. I usually do not help people but I am feeling kind today, so I will help
you. For a price. After a pause, he continued I just want a gummy bear. I thought
Gummy bear? Really? Oh and by the way. I can read thoughts said the alien. I do

a bag of gummy bears in my locker from yesterday... I forgot the alien could read

question I know your name because I have been watching you for a long time. I
shuffled off. I forgot to ask him why he had been watching me. To get the gummy

I went to the forest at the edge of Portland like the alien told me to. I still do not get
it when he said to seek out the zombie king near here, and when he pulled out a
map with a section of a forest circled. My phone reported I was at the location. Even
though my phone was useful it did not have a guide on how to find a zombie king,

4. Social Regression Analysis Paper
Introduction: The ecosystems around us in nature provide us with many services that
humans benefit from, such as water filtration and clean air. However, these benefits
are not something many people think about how we benefit from these services since
they typically aren t something we are used to paying for. Still, people benefit from
the services offered by ecosystems everyday. Within cities, urban parks can be found
throughout the USA. Some are home to forests, wetlands, grasslands, while others
are manicured parks where plants and animals have adapted to form novel
ecosystems. Nevertheless, measuring the economic valueof those services, whether
they are from novel or natural has always been a challenge. Some services such as
air and water filtration are relatively simple to quantify, while other services like a
parks biodiversity are not. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first three regressions use a similar dependent variable as Blomquist, while the
last regression uses data only on renters. In the first 3 regressions in the sign for
the coefficients change for renter, sunshine, sewer, and number of bedrooms.
However, in the last regression only signs on the coefficients for crime, lot size,
and sewer change. Most of these changes make little sense except for the change
that relates to crime. For the second regression in Table 1 state fixed effects were
added to help account for some of the missing climate variables in the model.
Nonetheless, this did little to clear up the confusion from the regression model used
in Table 1. The results largely the same except that the coefficient for park space
has gone from 1.804% to 0.751%, and population growth went from negative to
positive. The change for the park space coefficient is likely because of how
ecosystems can vary based on the climate within a
5. Professionalism In The Workplace
Introduction Professionalism is a term that has existed for a long time. Its definition
varies from one individual or era to the other. For some, being professional is seen
as dressing elegantly at work, or doing an excellent job. For others, however, being
professional is translated as having higher degrees or other certifications. Nonetheless,
professionalism comprises all of these definitions, although it also constitutes much
more. It is the level of aptitude or excellence, as well as the aim, conduct or qualities
that professionals have. A professionis a compensated occupation that necessitates
one to have formal credentials and training as well as a certain range of skills. The

In most cases, applying expert knowledge at work can help solve major
organizational problems as experts incorporate their skills in the affected areas.
Further, unlike in the traditional setups where professionals were self employed
and worked as individuals, change in times has led to experts becoming a part of
large organizations. In the current world, all professionals are a part of a larger
group that regulate and govern their activities and services. Therefore, there is lesser
recognition or value of such as compared to professionals in the past, who were

The geographical location and the cultural traditions of the individuals involved in the
marriage relationship. The legalities of marriage can be confusing and overwhelming.
Before you get married, it is important to know the requirements for getting a
marriage license such as age, identification, costs for the license, etc. Laws
concerning marriage vary from state to state and country to country and change often.
8. 1.6 Types of Marriage: In marriage there are 2 types of marriage:
Monogamy: Monogamy refers to the state of having only one mate at any one time;
the term is applied to the social behavior of some animals and to a form of marriage
in which an individual has only one spouse at any one time. In current usage
monogamy often refers to having one sexual partner irrespective of marriage or
reproduction. Recent discoveries have led biologists to talk about the three varieties
of monogamy: social monogamy, sexual monogamy, and genetic monogamy. The
distinction between these three is important to the modern understanding of
monogamy.
Social monogamy refers to two persons/creatures that live together, have sex with
each other, and cooperate in acquiring basic resources such as food, clothes, and
money.
Sexual monogamy refers to two persons/creatures that remain sexually exclusive with
each other and have no outside sex partners.
Genetic monogamy refers to two partners that only have offspring with each other.
Polygamy: several husbands or wives simultaneously
9. The Drilling For Offshore Drilling
IS MAKING OIL DEALS WORTH THE SPILLS It seems today that everything
comes with a promise or a benefit. Often as humans we have to make the choice
whether we want to be more self reliance or have a safer environment. That brings
us to the subject of offshore drilling in regards to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
Offshore drilling is the process of drilling for oil offshore in places such oceans or
sea beds through an oil rig. Sound like something non complex. Many would
assume that offshore drilling could not have very much effect in regards to
onshore. The most politically correct way for a person to decide where they stand
on this issues is to research both sides of it. If a person only looks at one side of the
spectrum when it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not even covering the danger of accidents the process in which oil is drilled is
dangers in itself to the environment. During the process of drilling offshore, each
drill well generates tens of thousands of gallons of waste drilling muds (materials
used to lubricate drill bits and maintain pressure) and cuttings. Drilling muds
contain toxic metals such as mercury, lead, and cadmium that may bioaccumulate
and biomagnify in marine organisms, including in our seafood supply. (Natural
Resources Defense Council 2009) Having yet to cover the worst part of offshore
oil drilling we have already come across toxic metals that are released in the water
during the drilling process. These toxic metals that are released in the water are not
only harmful to water creatures and wildlife but extremely harmful to humans. Take
the toxic metal lead, for example, lead in itself is very detrimental to the health of
adults. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the intake of lead
can lead to, cardiovascular effects, increased blood pressure, the incidence of
hypertension, decreased kidney function, and reproductive problems (in both men
and women). Even low levels of lead in the blood of children can result in; behavior
and learning problems, lower IQ, hyperactivity, slowed growth, hearing problems, and
anemia. ( United States Environmental Protection Agency 2015) If you as an adult

10. Bull Float
Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The
Hoover Dam is entirely made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic
yards of concrete while all of its additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million
cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36 million cubic yards of concrete!
Assuming that the average price of a yardof concrete is one hundred dollars in today
s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price
doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put
into the concrete, and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the
river so that the dam could be constructed.
Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred
cubic yards of concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is,
but for now, just know that concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused
at all times and if anyone fails to complete their job, then the entire pour could go
downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to not only respect the
amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to
learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on

Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three
foot wide piece of metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when
finishing the concrete. You start by setting the float angled at approximately a
thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete. When you make it to the
other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one hundred
and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come
in very handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high
to reach the desired
11. Montaigne
Montaigne s Response to the Moral Crisis of the Modern Era The moral crisis is the
devaluation and destruction of moral values and ideals, as well as the loss of the
deep spiritual dimension of human life. The moral crisis manifests itself not in the
misunderstanding of good and evil but in the reduction of the significance of morality
. Morality is understood too narrowly, mostly in terms of a set of rules or
regulations; moreover, the norm of honest behavior has ceased to be meaningful,
and it is quite easily sacrificed for the sake of momentary personal success (Adorno
124). The experience of moral thinking of Michel de Montaigne is inextricably linked
to the state of morality in his time. The moral crisis of the modern era, cruelty and
inhuman attitude of people towards each other in particular, causes Montaigne s
genuine outrage. Montaigne angrily responds to the morality of his era, where
violence, torture, and murder are the norm.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to that culture, people were taught to be honorable and have dignity.
Comparing the morality of the contemporary society with that of the ancient times,
Montaigne came to the conclusion that the moral sense of his contemporaries was at
a lower level than that of the freeborn citizens of Athens at Pericles s time or Rome at
the time of the Gracchus brothers (Montaigne 102). In ancient Greek and Rome, it
was not difficult to find a man who was not two faced, moderate in the thirst for
revenge, and indulgent towards those who insulted him/her. People in the ancient
times did not bend under the weight of life circumstances; today, on the other hand,
such people are rather rare. Neither the Middle Ages nor the Renaissance, according
to Montaigne, demonstrated such samples of sacrifice, unselfishness, courage,
loyalty, love, and friendship as the authors of the antiquity narrated (Montaigne
12. Hydrogen And Its Effects On The Environment
Hydrogen is the most popular on this list, there are many great things about
hydrogen such as it is not harmful to the environment, hydrogen is actually very
safe; this is because it uses a chemical process in the fuel cell to use the hydrogen as
a fuel, it is much more efficient than gasoline power, and research has shown that
hydrogen can actually clean the environment around them. Nonetheless hydrogen has
some major problems such the fact that it is extremely expensive to pull hydrogen
from water making it much more expensive than other renewable resources. Also the
pollution created from making the fuel cells essentially cancels out the benefits of
hydrogen. Experts state that hydrogen that escapes during the production process
could erode the ozone layer even further and exacerbate global warming. (Watson)
Researchers also need to find a way to store hydrogen as it highly flammable
compared to gas, and in low density hydrogen has to be transferred under high
pressure making the transport very bulky and impractical. (Watson) Biodiesel is
essentially diesel that made from renewable resources. Biodiesel is not used very
much in America, however in countries in Southeast Asian are embracing this
alternative fuelsource. Biodiesel can be made from a variety of biological organisms
such as corn, grass, or fats. Biodiesel has a net energy balance of 2.8, with a range
of 0.27 to +5.3 based on different assumptions for how to assign energy usage and by
products.

Environmental Science and Human Population Worksheet
1.What would you include in a brief summary on the history of the modern
environmental movement, from the 1960s to the present?
The modern environment movement began on April 22, 1970 largely due to the
release of the book The Silent Spring that is written by an environmentalist name
Rachel Carson. Overtime, I think the environment has improved tremendously from
where and how it all began. With the help of the National Resources Defense Council,
many things started happening for the betterment of the environment. Many Acts and
laws were passed such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Air Act and
the Endangered Species Act. The National Resources Defense Council has ... Show

The prediction for developed countries population is that in time there is hopes for
it to level off. With more women working and returning to school time to raise a
family has become limited and sometime nonexistent. There are also more choices
for the women in developed countries to use some sort of birth control. In the
developing countries it is popular for the young women to get married at an early
age, thus leading to them becoming pregnant earlier in life and more likely to have
more children. They lack getting educated about safe sex and contraception. If
reproduction keeps, happening due to these factors in developing countries there,
population will grow rapidly and this will add to the carrying capacity of the earth. If
carrying capacity is exceeded it will create a packing problem and we may not be
able to produce the means we need to survive.
4.How do individual choices affect natural ecosystem? Provide examples from your
personal or community experience.
According to How Do We Affect The Ecosystem? (2011), An ecosystem is a living
system that includes the sun as an energy source, soil, rocks, water, air, plant life
and living beings. Our individual choices affect the natural ecosystem in several
ways. Those who choose to have a farm are killing off the ecosystem of plants and
animals that existed and lived off that area so that they can produce the kind of food
they want to have. The chemicals they use to grow
14. Students At Middle And High School Level
A little over three years ago I began tutoring high school students in several types of
mathematics, physics chemistry. While I did this initially to earn money, I have
continued to tutor (often pro bono) because I enjoy the material and the contact
with the students. I have always enjoyed math tremendously. I can remember
riding in a car for long distances as a child with my father and continuously
calculating average speeds and percentages of distances covered as we traveled. In
college I took upper division math classes though they were not required for my
major. All this time spent playing with math has left me with a deep understanding
of the way numbers work and the many ways in which problems can be solved.
When I first started to teach students at middle and high school level, I was
surprised to find that most of the kids I worked with, although very bright, not only
lacked the ability to solve complex problems, they were very uncomfortable with
some of the basic principles of math. This discomfort led to fear and avoidance, and
the avoidance led to more discomfort. A strange cycle began. Instead of seeing math
as a beautiful system in which arithmetic, algebra and geometry all worked together
to allow one to solve problems, they saw it as a bunch of complex rules which made
little sense that they were forced to memorize. As a teacher, I found that it was
important when starting with a new student to find out where his/her discomfort with
math began. Often, this

Tennessee Williams, an American playwright, his famous works are The Glass
Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams creation of drama is
directly related to own personal life and experience. He has a sister Rose Williams
she is diagnosed with schizophrenic. In The Glass Menagerie it is talking about a
memory play in the 1940s talking about Tom Wingfield in the 1930s, Tom is the
narrator and the major character in the book. The other three characters are
Amanda the mother, Laura sister of Tom, and Jim the gentleman caller. Laura in
the book is like a reflection of Rose; they both are disabled in some parts of their
body. In The Glass Menagerie s, Laura is crippled and in real life Rose has
schizophrenic. As the book has been a classical collection of Tennessee Williams

In The Glass Menagerie, Amanda has an aggressive characterization, she is holding
on to her son and daughter. Oh! I felt so weak I could barely keep on my feet! ...Just

making Laura do something that she didn t want to do and when the command is not
done she turns upset. Back in the 1940s mom being aggressive is a very common
thing that happens, the adults take control over the family. But now days, in the
modern world children have more of their own opinions of what to do. Readers who
are reading back in the 1940s will think that Amanda is being a normal mom that is
teaching their own children what to do, for readers in the modern world Amanda
would become a mom that cares too much for their own children which will make

16. Jan Van Eyck Arnolfini Wedding Symbolism
Symbolism and the Multiple Meanings in Jan Van Eyck s Arnolfini Wedding Portrait
Throughout the Renaissance, many talented artists tried to express deep
symbolism in their paintings, but no one came close to the ability of Jan Van
Eyck. His paintings were so accurate and realistic that it was necessary for him to
paint his miniaturists with a single strand of hair, on a brush. Jan s Arnolfini
Wedding Portrait (1434) is so photo realistic that it has been debated for decades of
it s legality of a wedding document. This paper will help to understand Jan s extreme
use of symbolisms and the multiple meanings of his Arnolfini wedding scene.Today it
is almost impossible to prove that this painting was an official wedding document. ...

When getting into bed, most people take off their shoes, as seen on the floor in front
of Arnolfini (figure 7). Those shoes are not shoes of a working class woman but
shoes of wealth. There is a dog on the floor towards the bottom of the painting
(figure 8). This isn t a normal dog but a fancy lap dog that only the rich would have
owned. The dog also represents fidelity or in other words Arnolfini s faithfulness
of his marriage. Giovanni Arnolfini is the male on the left and Giovanna Cenami is
the female on the right. The couple s lifestyle is symbolized by their material
goods and posture. There is a convex mirror on the back wall that has tiny scenes of
Christ s passion around it (figure 4). These small scenes would depict the couples
love for Christianity. Jan would also make the scenes so obviously small so that
the viewer would be intrigued and reminded of their faith. There are also prayer
beads to the left of the convex mirror and they would also depict Christianity
(figure 3). Like most of the painting of this time, religion played a huge role and if
Jan wanted the church to support this painting he would have been forced to add
religion to the painting. Arnolfini was a brilliant cloth merchant and was born
around 1400ad. He resided in Bruges and died in 1472. Arnolfini was closely tied to
the court of Burgundy. Because of guild rules, Jan was only allowed to work with
and for people
17. Religious Programs On College Campuses
Religious programs have existed on college campuses for years. They provide a
way to help students continue practicing their faith away from home. These
programs are set up to help provide a sense of community and fellowship amongst
those who have the similar views. At Stetson, one of those programs is Revive.
Revive is a program set up to help keep the Christian faith strong. In doing so, they
have prayer services, bible study, and Friday church every week. On their site they
have a selection of churches to assist you in finding your home church away from
home as well as provide ways for you to visit those churches. They host amazing
events that bring Christians and non believers together to hear the true gospel.
Revive is a program that is not only for the Christian community, but it also
includes those who are non believers. As many might say, religious programs
should be separated from academics and campus life, or that programs such as
these are judgmental and only promote ignorance. I say that Revive proves
otherwise. A couple weeks ago I went to a program called Upperroom held at the
Lighthouse Church in Deland. I found both the program and the church through the
Revive website. I had been looking for a couple churches at the time, and when I
first started attending Stetson, I worried that I would not find genuine campus or
church family. I wanted to find a close group of people that had similar interest and
beliefs so that I could better develop those interests
18. Clean Water Act Protects Water
A Priceless Natural Resource Clean Water Water is necessary to sustain life. Water
not only sustains life, but it is the very foundation for life. Where does the water
we drink come from? Our water comes from many different sources such as
groundwater, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, aquifers, springs and streams. In order for
this water to sustain our life, it must be clean. Water is needed to meet the
demands of people in their everyday life. This includes the need for water in
homes, agriculture, industry, medicine and recreation. For health and prosperity
people must have access to clean, safe water. Water is regulated at the federal, state
and local level. The Clean Water Act protects water at the federal level. The
Environmental Protection Agency regulates the standards for contaminants in
water. In order for our water to be clean, we must protect our water sources from
pollution and contaminants. This is why we need to care for the water that we
have. Humans need water in order to survive. Our bodies are about 60 percent
water, the brain is about 70 percent water, and the lungs are made of 90 percent
water. Water is more important for you to survive than food is. When you become
dehydrated, it reduces the amount of blood flow in your body, and causes your heart
to work harder, and pump the blood faster. If you go long enough without water you
ll eventually enter into coma and die. You can also drink too much water. When you
drink too much water you can

Free Wi Fi is an impressive method for retaining and attracting customers.
Additionally, everyone wants free Wi Fi, especially when mobile social networking
has tremendously grown over the past decade. Therefore, due to the explosion of
mobile devices, consumers are now more connected than ever. Thus, they have come
to expect businesses to offer free Wi Fi. Further, free Wi Fi can be an effective
businessstrategy, and has proven to be a competitive advantage for a company that
decides to offer it. However, first a business must decide if the service is going to
be free to all, free to only a select few, or a monthly charge. Consequently,
businesses that decline to offer the free service, are at risk of declining foot traffic
and sales. Although some of the businesses that decide to offer free Wi Fi, may
discover that the service can, increase brand awareness, increase the time that a
customer spends on the premises, and increase foot traffic, which in turn, can
translate into sales. Free Wi Fi is currently available at some public and private
businesses. However, a consumermay decide not to frequent a business that does not
offer the free service, instead, choosing to shop at a business that does. Nevertheless,
offering free Wi Fi can produce additional benefits and advantages for a business. For
example, the business can ensure that the company s website is the home page of the

20. The Manuscript, Copyist And Ink And Page Setting
The following analyses present the findings of a multi perspective codicological
analysis of the examined manuscript, such as provenance of the manuscript, copyist
/scribe and ink and page setting.
Provenance of the manuscript
The manuscript is of a relatively significant size. It consists of 114 paired (dual)
folios and one single page folio at the end. Since this author uses a scanned image of
the codex, it is difficult to suggest its length and breadth. There are two flyleaves, a
paired one attached to the front cover and a single one attached to the back cover
page. The scanned image does not show the front cover page. The cover pages seem
to be made of hard cardboard covered with dark brown or light black fabric. In the
middle of the back cover, there is a washed out geometrical shape of a mihrДЃb and a
two hardly readable lines of Latin letters. They are not hand crafted. Rather they
appear to be the original factory mark. The geometrical shape of a mihrДЃb is a
coincidental design as it is not meant to bear any religious symbolism. Equally, the
Latin letters do not have any relevance to the manuscript. Therefore, the scribe seems
to have randomly used the cover to protect the codex.
The scribe uses two different types of ordinary paper, produced in a modern
stationery factory. For instance, for folios 1 19 and 43 202, he uses papers with 20
horizontal lines; and for folios 20 42 and 203 218, he uses papers with quadratic
graphs. Two hand stitched white cotton threads,

he just edited it. He took 55 delegate ideas, and turned it into a cohesive document.
Madison is known as the father of the Constitution . The convention lasted 3 months,
and the nation were furious about the new constitution. Madison had to make a taught

22. The First Step Out Of Bondage
Kevin Bales stated in Understanding Global Slavery , For some slaves, the first step
out of bondage is to learn to see their lives with new eyes. Their reality is a social
world where they have their place and some assurance of a subsistence diet. Born into
slavery, they cannot easily redefine their lives outside the frame of enslavement.
Indentured servitude was technically a fancy way to call someone a slave. When the
first settlers came to North America and realized they didn t know how to survive on
this unknown land, their only solution was to find someone else to figure it out for
them. Because early Americans didn t want to anything for themselves, the
indentured servitude system was created, indentured servitude led to the... Show more

An indentured servant was, a majority of the time, poor citizens from England or
male and female convicts who needed to serve out their time. The job of the
indentured was the same as a simple housemaid or laborers. The men would take
care of gardening, coachmen, butcher, ect. While the women would simply do the
laundry, sew, or any other simple housekeeping. The idea of indentured servitude
first came after young Englishmen needed a free way to the new world so they
could start anew. Indentured servitude first came to exist in the United States in
1620. This system provided incentives for both the master and servant to increase
the working population of the new colonies formed in the New Word. This system
seemed to benefit the servant as well. Each indentured servant would have their
fare across the Atlantic paid in full by their master. A contract was written that
ensure the length of service which was typically five years. The servant would be
supplied room and board while working in the master s fields. Upon completion of
the contract, the servant would receive freedom dues, a pre arranged termination
bonus. This could include land, money, a gun, clothes or food. On the surface it
seemed like a terrific way for the English men to make a great living just after 5
years of work, however, this was not often the case. Just under half of indentured
servants would not finish
23. Clinical Versus Counseling Psychology
Clinical Versus Counseling Psychology: What s the Diff? by John C. Norcross
University of Scranton, Fields of Psychology Graduate School The majority of
psychology students applying to graduate school are interested in clinical work, and
approximately half of all graduate degrees in psychology are awarded in the
subfields of clinical and counseling psychology(Mayne, Norcross, Sayette, 2000). But
deciding on a health care specialization in psychology gets complicated. The urgent
question facing each student and the question frequently posed to academic advisors
is What are the differences between clinical psychologyand counseling psychology?

The following table summarizes data from the APA (1997) national membership
base. As seen here, Division 12 clinical psychologists were more often employed in
private practice, hospitals, and medical schools. By contrast, Division 17
counseling psychologists were more likely to be located in universities
(particularly university counseling centers) and other human service settings.
Graduate Admissions In a large study, colleagues and I set out to obtain critical
information on the admission statistics and student characteristics of APA
accredited programs in counseling and clinical psychology (see Norcross et al.,
1998, for details). We secured the following information: Graduate Record
Examination (GRE) scores and grade point averages (GPAs), number of applicants
and acceptances, percentages of incoming students entering with a baccalaureate
only and those with a master s degree, and the percentages of incoming students
who were women and minorities. The results from 178 clinical psychology
programs and 61 counseling psychology (response rates of 99% and 95%,
respectively) provide the empirical basis for these conclusions: The mean GRE
scores of accepted applicants in clinical and counseling psychology doctoral
programs were similar overall with a few differences favoring the clinical
programs. For all programs, verbal scores averaged 621 (SD = 45),
24. Community In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Home is where the heart is, unless it is a small village in rural Colombia. In the
case of the villagers who populate Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death
Foretold , the concept of community triggers feelings of hostility, vengeance, and
anger. As far as this town s culture goes, family and religiontrump all: they drive the
Vicario brothers to murder, and force the women of the village to reach unrealistic
standards under obscure guidelines. It seems no one is immune to the strength of
these shared beliefs and values. Even normal citizens fall victim to the opinion, their
negligence leaving them as much at fault for Santiago s murder as the very
perpetrators themselves. Such stringent social constructs evident in the village s
society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It exists as the driving force behind Santiago s murder, suggesting that compassion is
discarded when honor and respect are at stake. To the people of the fictitious village,
honor [is] a brittle value one that cannot be rescued if harmed (Lipsett Rivera). Such a
concept is illustrated through the actions of the Vicario twins, who stab Santiago to
death in cold blood over the honor of their sister. Despite their open confession, both
brothers still claim to be innocent under the idea their crime was, before God and
before men...a matter of honor (49). The religious connotation intertwined with the
act of killing suggests that exacting revenge is reverent, and therefore necessary to
keep true to their faith and code of honor. Furthermore, the parallel structure of the
phrase before God and before men furthers the link between faith and honor. By
associating the terms God and men with each other, Marquez reveals that the notion
of humanity is based on religious conviction. Thus, the only way to retain status as a
good human is to follow religious constructs, and in the case of the Vicario brothers,
to kill. This idea is furthered in the aftermath of the murder, when Marquez asserts
that in killing Santiago, the brothers Vicario had proved their status as men (80). As
with religion, honor itself is constantly emphasized as a framework for social
hierarchy in the village. In killing Santiago, the brothers cemented not only their
faith, but their rank in society as

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, (1882 1945), 32nd president of the United States.
Roosevelt became president in March 1933 at the depth of the Great Depression.
He was reelected for three more terms, and died in office in April 1945. He was a
fascinating idealist whose confidence helped carry on the American people during
the strains of economic crisis and world war even though he had an attack of
poliomyelitis, which paralyzed his legs in 1921. He was one of America s most
touchy leaders. Though Roosevelt labored hard to end the Depression, he had not
very much success. It was not until 1939 and 1940 that success returned. Roosevelt

27. Arguments Against Bilingual Education
All throughout its history, bilingual education has been a controversial topic.
Bilingual education is the act of teaching topics in school in a student s native
language and reinforcing those concepts in English or vice versa, thus helping to
improve both languages. This idea with nothing commensurate to it was borne to give
those who did not have the resources to succeed another option has elicited vehement
objections from many. In spite of the fact that points for both sides of the argument
can be made, and have been heavily debated, many have reached the overall
consensus that bilingual educationhas shown to improve one s second languagewhich
is backed by countless studies. Although many may tumultuously argue that there are
not enough resources to provide everyone with this opportunity, with more
government funding, bilingual educationcan benefit many, even those outside the
intended audience. When it comes to bilingual education as seen when applied on a...

One benefit they may see from this is the ethnic diversity their child would be
receiving due to the culture being taught in the courses (Bowern). Accustoming
themselves to a country and its culture allows for the children being taught to adapt
to that specific country if they ever wish to visit or move there. Many may claim
that bilingual programs are aimed towards immigrants who need extra help, yet a
new group of parents are utilizing this new program to also give their children an
advantage. In addition, with the diversity in the nation, being able to speak multiple

them in programs which will help them develop the skill to speak another
28. Myth Of Meritocracy
Is the myth of meritocracy more prevalent for minorities?
The myth of meritocracy has been proven true in multiply sources. Studies have
hypothesized this before when relating to upward mobility. Upward mobility in the
last forty years has been more and more unlikely for years and years now. Factors
like race, socioeconomic status, household makeup, and economic conditions of this
country play a big role. I will go more indepth about this study by showing more facts
in the following paragraphs.
The American dream for years has been see known to be something that anybody
can achieve with hard work through all obstacles. For most of Americans,
especially minorities, this does not occur. The notion that working hard will get you
somewhere with your merits does not face up to the statistics. But despite all these
statistics, facts, and evidence, people, usually minority, aspose these talking points
non stop. Matter of fact, the average person has a little chance of mobility or stay in
the same socioeconomic class. In my own personal life, I have yet to achieve the
American dream. My own parents have are janitors and grew up in poverty. You can
say that they themselves are clear example of the difficulty of achieving success
solely on meritocracy. Now you might ask what is your definition of the American
dream? For me, the American dream is about owning a home, having enough money
to not struggle to buy food, clothing, and decent water for not only me but my

He uses pathos when trying to communicate with the Cubans, and the Americans, as
he talks about their nation was betrayed and that they were being foreign dominated.
Kennedy was trying to appeal to them with this statement using the emotion of them

Nonetheless, all of Anderson?s films have an undeniable familiarity between them

the GC was cut off too soon. In the example, the last peak came up around retention
time 8.5. According to this data, GC was cut off around retention time 8.0. Another
issue is that the second peak, 1,2 dichlorobutane to be precise, is very little. That is
it is not even registered in the data. Due to not having the full data, the example GC
run is used for this lab report. 1,1 dichlorobutane has 2 2МЉ H s. It is expected from
mathematical stand point that 16.7% of the product will be it. In reality that was
not what happened. After the experiment, according to GC data, 1,1 dichlorobutane
had 5% of the product. That is a pretty big difference; it is a lot smaller than
expected. It is the first product to show up on the graph, as expected. According to
the handout, a major boiling point of 1,1 is at 114МЉ. The next three are at higher
boiling points, and that is how it is known which peak is which product. The
relative reactivity rate is 2.5% per Hydrogen. Since there is only two Hydrogens and
only 5% for this product, each Hydrogen gets 2.5% chance

For this research assignment, the topic I would like to discuss is the biomechanics
of a skiing. Skiing is one type of sports that has begun to increase in popularity.
Athletes are always trying to discover ways to get stronger, faster, and higher with
minimal injuries. Improving our biomechanics is one important way of improving
your athletic performance, and limit injuries. However, there are many pros and
cons within the biomechanics of skiing. I would like to learn more about leg
alignment and form and how these can affect the skier. Abnormalities of the leg
and lower leg alignment are important factors while skiing. To be an efficient skier
it requires a balanced movement. My methods of data collection to analyze my
subject s skill movement will consist of a multi methods approach. This approach
includes a mixture of literature reviews, observational review through video
analysis, and interviews with the athlete. These data collection methods will help
me in my project by allowing me to strategically point out differences in angular
placement and posture, along with speed variations due to changes in position. I
will be able to compare a professional style of skiing with that of a novice skier and
point out the differences in positioning between an experienced skier and a novice
skier. I will limit research information to scholarly and reputable sources only. Once
of the sources I will reference comes from a research article called Clinical

Quiet on the Western Frontdescribes how a German soldier and his friends, in the
middle of World War 1, deal with the stresses of the war and how the soldiers cope
with the conditions they are in and the deaths of comrades; these soldiers are also
friends. The book also conveys the stresses of coping with civilian life when
disconnected from the war. The topic of The Sun Also Rises deals with the stresses
that a woman goes through after losing her true love in the war. The themes are
different as the stories do not mirror each other as far as the plot goes. However,
they are similar in the fact that both stories touch on people managing life. I prefer

the British forces from escaping. George Washington would lead the main attack
force of 2,400 troops. They would cross the Delaware nine miles north of Trenton
and split into groups one under General Sullivan and another under General Greene.
The plan was to attack before dawn. General Greene would attack from the north and

College
A Music Faculty Recital at Prince George s Community College was actually the
very first concert I ve been to that included Baroque style. The environment created
a nostalgic yet modern and elegant mood; something that made you feel like you
were in the late 1700 s yet still in modern times. The songs were mostly enjoyable
and we re all well played. This concert included an ensemble: the flute, the cello, the
piano, and the harpsichord. Peggy Bair, who played the flute, was very enthusiastic.
Irma Cripe, who played the cello, was quiet for the first part of the concert but
gradually became more important throughout the concert. And lastly, the virtuous
Gary Kirkeby, who played the piano and harpsichord, served as the backbone of all
parts of the concert and made this concert very enjoyable.
When the concert first began, the three instrumentalists walked with energy despite
their age. The first song, Sonata I in G Major Op. 2, Nr. 1 by Michel Blavet, was a
Baroque Sonata. There were five movements and was played by the harpsichord,
flute, and cello. All movements of the song were polyphonic because of the three
instruments that had different parts and equal importance. In the first movement, I
noticed that the flute tended to rise in pitch. In the second movement, I noticed that
the melodies often repeated. Throughout the rest of the song the tempo changed from
fast to slow and the flute would usually take the lead. On the last movement, the cello
and the harpsichord
43. Essay about Gandhi Obituary
Indian leader, Mohandas Gandhi died at the age of 78 on January 30, 1948 at 5:12
p.m. Mohandas Gandhi was known throughout the world for his nonviolent
protests against both British rule and interreligious fighting. Gandhi was born in
the town of Porbander, and received his schooling in Rajkot where his father was
an advisor to the local ruler. Mohandas Gandhi married a girl named Kasturba.
Both were thirteen years old at the time. At the age of 19, Gandhi decided to travel
to England to receive his degree in law. Gandhi left his son Harilal who was a few
months old with his wife. While in England, Mohandas came across new cultures,
people, and ideas. Gandhi quickly received his law degree and was called to the bar
in 1891, but returned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gandhi soon became involved in helping the untouchables, or the lowest and
poorest Indian class. Gandhi founded newspapers to spread his ideas and to
educate the public. In early 1930, the Indian National Congress declared that India
would not be satisfied until India received complete independence from Britain.
On March 2nd, 1930, Gandhi sent a letter to the Viceroy, Lord Irwin, forcefully
saying that if Indian demands were not met, he would be forced to violate the salt
laws. The Lord ignored his letter. Gandhi began a 240 mile trek to the sea with 78
of his followers. As the trek continued, more and more people joined Mohandas
Gandhi, and by the time Gandhi arrived at the sea thousands of people stood behind
him. Gandhi picked up a clump of sea salt along with thousands of others. Gandhi
was soon arrested for his actions along with tens of thousands of others. Gandhi was
pardoned to travel to England for negotiations which accomplished nothing, and was
arrested upon his return to India. After his release three months later, Mohandas
Gandhi spent years involved in constructive reformation. When World War II broke
out, Gandhi encouraged India to remain neutral. In his speech to the Indian people
he told the nation, Do or die. During his final years, Gandhi walked from town to
town where Hindus were being murdered in retaliation for the killings of Muslims of
Bihar. The massacres and fighting ended because of
