Effects Of A Solar Eclipse
What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs when
the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as it blocks
the sun s beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as if it is as dark as
night and makes the sun look like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse, many things can
happen that one would be astonished by observing such as, the actual object, changes in the
atmosphere, animals and people s behavior, and emotional and sensual feelings. The object that
appeared in the sky had everyone s attention and concentration, not only that day, but weeks before.
Everyone had been talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned lessons, and posters
lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety measures. A solar eclipse, an event
appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with the experience of a
lifetime.
On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as a
sun rise early in a summer s morning. It was so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it. The
whole Middleton High School separated to go outside and watch the eclipse in different areas. The
location where we watched the eclipse only allowed us to see the moon partially blocking the sun. We
all saw the sun slowly lose its rays as the moon raced to appear in front. Although the total

John Copley and Benjamin West
Copley s and West s Artwork Tiffin University Vanessa Bradley September 14, 2012 Melanie Trost
ART310 American Art John Singleton Copley and Benjamin West were both painters and portraitures.
John Copley and Benjamin West both had very distinct styles of artwork. There were also some
comparisons between their artwork(s). I have decided to look further into Copley s and West s
artwork(s) and this is what I have found. John Singleton Copley s painting: Mars, Venus, and Vulcan:
The Forge of Vulcan features Venus which is the symbol of love and sex. It shows Venus as very
seductive young woman. It also has cupid s arrows which also represents love. Half of the painting is
painted dark giving the painting a dreadful feeling. Half ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This painting tells a sad story about a general who is willing to die for his citizens. This story also tells
a hopeful story about unity between two completely different civilizations. All in all, these two artists
use similar textural techniques in their paintings and portraits. Benjamin West use more curved lines in
his paintings. John Copley mainly painted people of wealth opposed to Benjamin West. Both painters
used oil canvas for their paintings and portraits. Both painters always have an eye catching art piece
for every type of eye. (2005). In D. Bjelajac, American Art: A Cultural History (pp. 37 129). Upper

Shakespeare s Rebuttal to Possibilities in Sonnet 96 Essay
Shakespeare s Rebuttal to Possibilities in Sonnet 96
Shakespeare s apostrophic Sonnet 96, one of the sonnets written to the blond young man, is arranged
similar to a rebuttal in an argument or debate. In the first three quatrains, he describes several
possibilities, such as the youth s winning nature and potential for mischief, only to refute them in the
couplet. He begins with concise one line points in the first quatrain, moves to a comparison utilizing
the entire quatrain in the second, and transitions to two line arguments in the final quatrain, evoking
the idea of a logical, organized argument. Along with reason, however, are the romantic tones of the
couplet, which refutes the statements made in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second quatrain adjusts from end stopped lines to enjambed lines, with each idea occupying two
lines, and the comparison of royalty s humble jewels to the young man s slight faults encompassing
the entire quatrain. The quatrain becomes less like a simple argument and more like a well developed
line of reasoning as the ideas in the first and third lines spill over to the second and fourth.
Shakespeare contrasts the concept that [t]he basest jewel will be well esteem d (6) by association on
the hand of royalty as errors the young man commits are [t]o truths translated (8). Although the
technical pronunciation of translated puts the stress on the second syllable, many people commonly
stress the first syllable, which creates a trochee in the second foot of line eight. The change from
iambic to trochaic emphasizes the change from error to truth in the opinion of those who know the
blond young man.
The third quatrain differs again from the style of the second, shifting from enjambed lines two end
stopped lines. However, the end stop is not as forceful as in the first quatrain, with each complete
thought covering two lines, rather than one. As with the first quatrain, Shakespeare uses parallel
structure to make his point apparent. He compares the full force of the young

The 1970 through 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle was part of the American muscle car scene, and these

Art Nouveau Research Paper
Art Nouveau
When one considers the term Art Nouveau, what comes to mind most immediately is images of a
European wide invasion [characterized] by the restless dynamism of organic form (Silverman 1). For
me it is usually the work of Alphonse Mucha his mysterious women surrounded by the beauties of
nature. Often my Art Nouveau fantasies take shape in the odd fungal shaped stained glass lamps of
Tiffany. Or sometimes they surface as the romantic Parisian posters I ve seen at Pier One, advertising
champagne or cats noir or bicycles or the like. But no matter what ones notion may be of what Art
Nouveau looks like, there is a feeling that accompanies it that is at the heart of the style s appeal. It is
difficult to define or describe what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this poster for La Samaritaine(1894), he portrays her hair as long flowing locks that engulf her body
much like the vines of a plant might do if she were frozen still in a garden for several days. In like
manner the lines of her dress cascade down her body, emphasizing the beauty of her feminine form,
this figure itself a frequent inspiration and facet of Art Nouveau works. Such lines are indicative of
another key characteristic of the style the use of nature; for they engender an organic feeling in the
work. It is important to distinguish between the use of the natural and the philosophy of Naturalism, a
movement that Art Nouveau was consciously attempting to bring to an end. Naturalism seeks to
portray things exactly as they are, as stark, often unflattering reality. Naturalists based this technique
on the claim that true beauty will come across in the faithful representation of reality. This is exactly
the opposite of how Art Nouveau artists sought to create their work. They believed in drawing from
Nature the beauty she has to offer and accentuating it, doing so symbolically as opposed to
realistically. Prominent Art Nouveau artist Siegfried Bing called nature the infallible code of all the
laws of beauty (qtd. in Selz 14). All true Art Nouveau draws upon that code in one form or another, if
not in the portrayal nature then

The Disaster Planning Or Management
Although there were numerous predictions that a category 4 or 5 could hit New Orleans, very little
disaster planning or management was accomplished before Katrina hit in August 2005 (Lalwani, et al.,
2007, p10). After Katrina made landfall August 29th, several sections of the levee system collapsed
including levees protecting the Ninth Ward (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). The manmade MRGO channel
caused the problems it was predicted; the channel increased the power and the size of the waves that
destroyed many levees (Heerden, Kemp, Bea, Shaffer, Day, Morris, Fitzgerald, and Milanes, 2009,
p306). By early September, people were forcibly evacuated and the storm displaced more than 1.5
million people (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). According to Lalwani, et al. (2007, p10), Katrina was the
most destructive and costliest natural disaster in the history of the United States, with an estimated $75
billion worth of damage. Months after the hurricane, 3,200 people were unaccounted for and many of
the low lying areas, most of which were poor and minority neighborhoods, were still under water.
People were stranded in their homes or at evacuation centers without food or water. Those in charge
did not supply those in need with aid in a timely manner that is expected. According to Ripley,
Bennett, Thomas, Calabresi, Donnelly, Thompson, Tumulty, Waller, Zagorin, Chu, DeQuine, and
Klarreich (2005), The first 72 hours after a disaster is the golden period. That is when victims should

Roles Of Women In Aeneus
Roles of Women in Virgil s Aeneid and in the Gospel of Luke The women in ancient Roman
patriarchal society as seen in Virgil s Aeneid were limited by societal gendered roles and were
undervalued by men. Contrastingly, Hebrew women as seen in the Gospel of Luke were viewed as
equal to men because both were made in the image and likeness of God. Women were not important in
the epic story of the founding of Rome whereas women were crucial in Jesus mission to preach the
word of God. This essay will look at the roles of Creusa, Dido, and Lavina in the Aeneid and of Mary,
Elizabeth, and Mary Magdalene in the Gospel of Luke. Roman society valued the tradition of law in
the hands of the paterfamilias in which the father held absolute power over his wife, children, and
slaves. The respect for fathers extended into the community and into politics creating a male
dominated society. Women were subordinate to either their father or their husband. Despite their lower
position in society, women were still expected to uphold Roman virtues such as pietas, the duty to one
s family and country. Pietas for women referred to their duty to their family, especially to their
husbands. Once a woman was married, she was expected to act honorably and respectably by
remaining chaste and doing nothing else except for her household duties. Roman women were
expected to stay out of public life and especially to stay out of politics. Throughout the Aeneid, the
hero, Aeneas, had relations with three

The Electoral College System Is Not Effective
If I had the opportunity to change the Constitution of the United States of America, I would change the
Electoral College system. Like many other Americans, I feel that the Electoral College system is not
effective. It caries a notion of the state versus the people, electors oversee a large part of the country
and is change the answer to this issue? I believe that times have changed and we need to reform the
electoral system all while not changing the constitution.
The Constitution of the United States of America created a system called the Electoral College where
it outlines the rules in which we elect the President of the United States of America. As stated in
Article 2, Section 1 of the U. S. Constitution created the Electoral College. Each state receives as
many electoral votes as it has senators and representatives. Therefore, each state, including the District
of Columbia, will have at least three electors. This is the vision of the Constitution. Now the problem
arises when all the Electoral votes from one state are given to the popular winner for that state. This
causes a with people s right to chose their leader as votes of the people that voted for the losing
candidate are tossed in the trash. All this while giving the state the ultimate power to elect the
president.
The people of the loosing party on the state votes are not worth anything they are just given to the
winner basically with the current electoral system. The system needs to be redesigned to

The Theory Of The Political Economy
The theory of the political economy in the context on media studies, is that behind every media
product, has a commercial and economic imperative and as such, has particular impacts on the media
content that would not exist if such imperatives ceased to exist. It is these impacts that both limit
media products, and allow media products of a particular nature exist. A political economic approach
in the production of media is in contrary to the nature of media itself; accuracy, integrity and
authenticity are lost in favor to economic power.
A capitalist society is one that exists within an exploitative framework. Our society exists and
functions due to labor being exploited by those in a lower social class with the intention of economic
profit for those who exploit others. (Marx and Moore, 2001) Ignoring the morality of this ideology, it
enables a functioning society to a particular degree. When this theory is applied within the context of a
political economy of media production, we can begin to understand its value. The nature of a capitalist
society means that human labor worth a monetary value and that is exchanged between the exploiter
and the exploited. As such, without a political economic influence, media products would cease to
exist. Funding facilitates the production of media labor is required to create, produce, distribute and
consume media.
All media is influenced by the political economic circumstances, however, the extent in which this
model impacts the

creature Onamazu from the Japanese mythology it came from. Onamazu, in the myths, is a giant

earthquakes. Identically, Chinese legend states that Bai Ze, a gorgeous beast with a flowing white
mane, large horns, and several eyes, warned the Yellow Emperor Huang Di when he was on patrol. It
is said that the monster taught the Emperor how to defeat many types of supernatural beings. This
myth also spread to Japan as a kutabe, which appeared to warn a village of a coming plague. The
white creature seems to fit Absol s pokédex entries, an overview of a pokémon, which talk about it
emerging from the wilderness to inform humans of oncoming disasters (Young). Even in pop culture,

Bipolar Disorder ( Bd )
Bipolar disorder (BD), or manic depression, is one of the oldest mental illnesses, first being
documented in 1st Century Greece by Aretaeus of Cappadocia. He first noted the link between mania
and depression that is so characteristic of the disease. As the years progressed the disease changed
names from mania and melancholia during Ancient Greece and Rome, to manico melancolicus in the
17th century, lafolie circulaire in 1851, and now, finally, bipolar as defined by the American
Psychiatric Association s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) in 1980.

Genomewide Association Study Consortium Bipolar Disorder group (PGC BD) (2011). In order to
achieve this, they used a variety of methods including a genome wide association analysis (GWAS),
replication study, and a pathway analysis. For the GWAS they used 16,731 BD samples from multiple
overlapping case and control studies facilitated by the Psychiatric Genome wide Association Study

genotype and phenotype data for all of the samples, they combined them into a datasheet with 7,481

11% BD type 2, 4% schizoaffective disorder bipolar type, and 1% other bipolar diagnosis. They used
46,234 SNP s, or single nucleotide polymorphisms, to directly genotype all 11 groups and 1,016,924

Queensland s Jury System
Juries are an essential component of Queensland s criminal justice system. However, the current jury
system in criminal law cases does not effectively meet the needs of society. This thesis is established
by first examining the role that juries play in the criminal justice system and the various interests of
those affected by juries. This is followed by a consideration of arguments for and against juries and
reforms that may be made to the jury system. Overall, it will be seen that there are substantial reasons
to reform the current system.
In considering the effectiveness of the jury system, it is first necessary to understand the roles of
juries. Primarily, a jury is a body of legally unqualified citizens who agree on a verdict based on
evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The jury represents the voice of the people, regardless, juries are ethnically un diverse, consist heavily
of certain age groups and members of certain socioeconomic statuses. To ensure better
representativeness, two specific reforms can be implemented. First, making avoiding jury duty more
difficult. The list of excuses in the Act can be reduced to achieve this. Additionally, the reforms must
address the racial diversity in juries. According to Israel, parties are likely to attempt to exclude
Indigenous and other ethnic minorities from in the selection process (1998). However, for the jury to
represent the voice of the people it must be racially diverse, as Australia is a very multicultural
country. As a result, a possible reform is making it more difficult for the parties to object to certain
jurors. To rectify the issue of a lack of competence in juries, a solution is to expand the kinds of cases
that a judge only trials. At present, for example, complicated tax and fraud cases require a judge only
trial. A reform is to make it possible for further kinds of cases to be added. An alternative reform is to
allow an independent lawyer to explain issues to the jury outside of court sessions, rather than relying
on the judges instructions alone. The lawyer could identify any misunderstandings and correct them.
Overall, it is necessary for reforms to be put in place to address

Soliloquy Of The Spanish Cloister Essay

Dr. Eller
English 2002
13 October 2014
The Hypocritical Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister
In the dramatic monologue Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister by Robert Browning, the reader is hurled
into the psychotic ranting s of an unnamed friar. The protagonist of this poem is voicing his hatred for
his fellow monk, Brother Lawrence, as he absentmindedly works in the monastery s garden. The tone
of the poem is filled with disgust, hate, and bitterness, as the friar plays previous encounters with
Brother Lawrence over in his head, mocking his speech as well as his actions. Although the only
description that the reader receives about Brother Lawrence comes from the ranting s of the friar, he
actually does not seem all that terrible. The figures of speech that Browning uses throughout the poem
show the irony of the friar s way of thinking. Since the friar is unaware of his psychotic thought
process, he is unable to realize that the faults he associates with Brother Lawrence are ... Show more

The friar contemplates several ways to ensure that Brother Lawrence will receive eternal damnation.
His thoughts first wander to brown Dolores, whom is a seemingly beautiful woman; hence the
description the friar gives in the poem. In line thirty, the friar says that he can see his dead eye glow.
Although he imagines that Brother Lawrence will react to brown Dolores s beauty in a lustful manner,
it seems as though the speaker himself is the one who instead reacts this way. Another example that
shows the friar s hypocrisy, is when he plans to have Brother Lawrence simply glace at his dirty
French novel. The speaker believes that when he does, Brother Lawrence will find himself hand and
foot in Belial s gripe (60). If these methods will not work, the friar knows twenty nine distinct
damnations, one sure if another fails that will impact his eternal salvation

Brief Summary Of Chapter 1 Of Mccloud
In the beginning of chapter one, McCloud starts of by narrating through one of his flashbacks when he
first started to read comic books. At first McCloud was in denial of what comics can truly mean, but as
he began to read he was hooked. The main character is drawn as younger version of himself with stars
and thick lines around his head with a surprise looked towards the comic he is reading. Throughout
the next panels he draws himself with an astonishing look in his face because he found something he
can fully understand. Before he can continue his memory McCloud s cuts in the middle of the
flashback and he s back to his normal version saying, I felt there was something lurking in comics...
something that had never been done. Some kind of hidden power! (McCloud 3). McCloud is trying to
say that he felt something more when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The younger version of McCloud was drawn with clean lines, holding a notebook, and a look in his
face with confusion. The author uses these panels to convince the audience about his credibility
towards comics. Since the author experience stereotypes, he shows credibility towards his evidence
because he is telling the truth about comics being serious. He also used these panels to make some
stereotypes of himself, when we see a bully we always imagine a big tough guy making fun of the
nerdy looking kid. He uses this stereotype to make the audience see that we can become that jerk that
makes fun of comics by not taking other people s opinions seriously. Comics should be taken serious
because we are the younger version of McCloud we have not fully understood what comics are, but
through the visuals McCloud makes strong claims that comics can give you something more that

Electric Vehicle Research Paper
III. History of Electric Vehicles
The steady increase in electric vehicles over the past 10 years is a result of gasoline scarcity. Many
believe this reason plus environmental factors are what forced scientist to develop an alternative. The
idea of a vehicle running off of electricity without a combustion engine sounds very extreme and
futuristic. The majority of people fail to realize the electric car was originally introduced in the late
1800 s, but was eventually put to rest with the conveniences of gasoline power. The two currently
competing sources of automobile energy have already duked it out about a century ago, and the once
defeated electric car is off the mat for round 2. As described in Technologies Tortoise and Hare
(2000DATE?) It is a dynamic process of competing strategies and, for the automotive industry, a very
traumatic even in a vital historical drama. Electric vehicles played a small role in the pre
industrialization era, but did have much significance. EV s started out as a method of transportation.
For example, the electric train was very important in the distribution of coal out of mines because they
don t clog the air with combustion affecting the miners. Electric taxi cabs were also used in London
during the late 1800 s, they held the nickname hummingbirds due to their quiet hum. By 1899 the
fastest land speed record was held by an electric car, reaching 65.7 mph! Many consumers also saw
how appealing the electric vehicle was with the start up

Hurricane Research Paper
The hurricane began as a tropical wave a westbound low pressure area first observed southeast of
Cape Verde on 29 August.[1] Traversing the tropical Atlantic, the wave retained a minimum
barometric pressure of about 1010 mbar (hPa; 29.83 inHg) and strengthened briefly the following day.
[2][3] By 1 September, however, the wave had become rather weak and indiscernible; it would remain
as such for much of its early existence till 6 September, by which time it had moved past the
Windward Islands. In this region the system became sufficiently organised to be classified as a tropical
depression at 18:00 UTC that same day, about north north west of Grenada.[4][5] Some six hours after

intensified into a Category 2 hurricane. The storm strengthened further before reaching its peak
intensity with as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 135 mph (215 km/h) at
1800 UTC.[5] The strong hurricane made landfall on Belize City at the same intensity two hours later.
A barometer in the city recorded a minimum pressure of 952 mbar (hPa; 28.12 mbar); this was the
lowest barometric pressure measured in association with the storm.[2] The hurricane substantially
weakened over the Yucatán Peninsula, and had weakened to tropical storm strength by the time it had

The two theories I will utilize from this course in order to explain my patient s behavior are the
psychodynamic theory and the systems theory.
Theories to Explain Behavior The psychodynamic theory would explain an individual s personality in
terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th
century, Sigmund Freud proposed the psychodynamic theory consists of the id (accountable for
instincts and pleasure seeking), the superego (attempts to submit to the rules of parents and society),
and the ego (which facilitates between the id and superego according to the stresses of reality)
(Cherry, n.d.). Psychodynamic theories believe childhood experiences shape a person s personality.
The systems theory would focus on the micorsystems, which are the interpersonal relations
experienced by the developing person. Amy s challenge will also be explained through her
mesosystem, this would be the linkage and processes that take place between two or more setting
containing the developing person (ST article ). Lastly through the systems theory Amy s challenge
will be analyzed through her macrosystem which is a societal blueprint for a particular culture. (ST

The Evolution Of Dance, The Italian Renaissance, And The...
The body says what words cannot (Martha Graham). This quote helps explain how the body can move
in ways to help explain cultures and events that have happened. The body can move in ways to show
emotion that people are sometimes unable to explain with words. Different styles of dance have
evolved dramatically over the years and can even be used in the modern world as a profession.
Dance has been affected by many events including religious rituals that helped form the art of dance,
the Italian Renaissance, and the French Revolution. Dance was originally reserved for religious rituals
in ancient civilizations ( Dance 1). Dance was used in the religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islamic.
In ancient Egypt, different cultures would use dance to perform for their peers in ceremonies. Dance
spread throughout Europe and soon became a common activity in many European countries. Dance
also played a part in Greek and Roman society. Dance was used for religious purposes and was also
demonstrated in ceremonies. Dancing commemorated the changing of the seasons, life and death,
social solidarity, and the connection between humanity and the unseen powers that affected human
existence ( Overview of Dance 2). Dance would also be used in the Greek society to honor a god or an
important individual. Ballet can be dated all the way back to the Italian Renaissance. In the fifteenth
century, ballet was demonstrated during the courts of Italy. Ballet was not made to be performed in

The Impact Of Television On Television
Television has come to define American culture and its youth in very significant ways. What began as
a platform for entertainment has branched out into becoming a remarkable and unexpected way for
younger children to learn. It is important to note what is being broadcasted on television because of
how much influence it has on the youth. It has become the dominant storyteller in homes rather than
parents, the church, or schools (Signorielli, 2001). As technology further advances, children are
generally also becoming more comfortable with television and therefore spending more time watching
television. Children should not be receiving most of their learning from television to begin with,

Comparing The Grateful Dead And The Good Earth
In October 1973, The Grateful Dead, an American rock band, released Wake of the Flood, featuring
the song Let It Grow , written by John Barlow and Bob Weir. Nearly forty years earlier, Pearl S. Buck,
an American feminist writer who was raised mostly in China, published her best selling historical
fiction novel, The Good Earth, which she won the Pulitzer Prize for in 1932 and the Nobel Prize for
Literature in 1938. Page 29 of Buck s novel, in describing a scene between the protagonist and his
wife, is an effective exemplification of the major theme of the novel. Both literary works examine the
inherent excellence of hard work and labor and the elegance of the cyclic nature of the natural world.

Buck effectively achieves her purpose through her masterful use of diction and syntax. The couple
working on the land is described as a perfect sympathy of movement , implying that there is a faultless
harmony and order to their work. Then she details how everything comes from and returns to the earth
and how everything undergoes a cycle of life and death. Buck makes sure to repeat the phrase over in
order to emphasize the cyclicity of this process. She utilizes commas to separate parts of the sentence,
lengthening the sentence, developing a calm attitude at least on part of the writer. Following that, the
word so is used to display the inherent inevitability of this process. The short, terse sentence Each had
his turn at the earth contrasts with the lengthy descriptive sentences previous to it to display what the
author feels is the essence of the cycle. Similarly, in Let it Grow , the songwriters express the cyclicity
of nature when he describes how the plow cuts round and round ; how the the ground is becoming to
the next season ; and how the black dirt [is] live again . The cycle is briefly described when the
songwriter says Seasons round, creatures great and small, up and down as we rise and fall . In essence,
both excerpts explore the natural cycle of life. However, the excerpt from the novel discusses
cooperation. A subtle metaphor is created where O lan represents the Earth and the production of a
child is likened to the cultivation of the land. Thus, the necessity of the emphasis on Wang Lung and O
lan working together. Additionally, another distinction is evident when analyzing the two prosaic
works: Let It Grow utilizes personification when referring to the natural world, which is notably
absent in the excerpt from The Good

Selecting a Child Support Attorney in Broward County, FL
In any case that involves children, child support is one of the most important decisions the court
makes. Child support is a payment from one parent to the other that is to provide necessities for the
children. Child support is based upon the incomes of the parties and a number of other factors, and its
purpose is to provide the children with income from both parents, just as they would have if the

Before issuing an award of alimony or spousal support in Palm Beach, Florida, the courts will
consider many different issues, such as the incomes of the parties, the parties education levels, and the
length of the marriage. Although Florida is a no fault divorce state, meaning that there is no
requirement to prove the wrongdoing of a spouse to receive a divorce decree, certain misbehaviors are
considered throughout the divorce proceedings. One such factor is an affair.
Before issuing an award of alimony or spousal support, the courts must first determine that one party
has a need for such support and that the other party has the ability to pay it. According to Florida s
alimony laws, the court may next consider the adultery of either spouse...in determining the amount of
alimony, if any, to be awarded.
Therefore, simply because one spouse has had an affair does not mean that the other spouse will
automatically receive alimony or spousal support payments. Similarly, adultery is not an automatic bar
to receiving alimony, as it is in other states. The weight given to the affair and its effects on an
alimony award is left to the discretion of each family court judge and will vary significantly
depending on the facts of the case. Some family court judges may weigh affairs more heavily than
others.

Lake Argyle Environment Research Paper
The Northern Territory, which covers over one sixth of the Australian continent, contains a variety of
habitats in which numerous species of wildlife live. These habitats range from the tropical north or
Top End to the arid desert regions in the south. Several feral animals, including large mammals,
inhabit these regions. Feral species in the Northern Territory include introduced wild animals such as
rabbits, foxes, cane toads and deer. They also include livestock include buffalo, cattle, horses, donkey,
camels and pigs. The wild life of Lake Argyle is very inhabitant, as there were many beautiful and

such as Cane Toads and Feral Pigs have impacted nature in a negative way. When asked Tom

Argyle environment, he relied with, Cane Toads are the main species that are having a major impact
on the Argyle environment, as they have cautioned many little insects and animals from their presence
through Australia. Cane toads are native to Central and South America, Cane Toads were first
introduced to Australia in 1935 as there was approximately 3000 that were released into Northern
Queensland. They were released as a mean of controlling the introduced French Cane Beetle and the
Greyback Cane Beetle, by controlling, meaning by reducing the population of these introduced
species. Cane Toads pose a threat to wildlife when eaten, because they release a toxin (bufotoxin)
from across their backs. This toxin is present in both the adults and tadpoles, meaning Cane Toads

Examples Of Scapegoat
The scapegoat was first seen in the 16th chapter of Leviticus, a book in the Bible. In this chapter, God
told two leaders of Israel, Moses and Aaron, to make a sacrificial offering to rid the people of their
sins. In obedience to God s command, Moses and Aaron took two goats needed to perform the ritual.
The first goat, which was to be sacrificed as a sin offering, was killed and its blood was sprinkled on
the Ark of the Covenant. The second goat was to be cursed with the sins of every Israelite, then
released into uninhabited wilderness. This practice was to be performed every year as propitiation of
Israel s collective sins. Observing past history, one can see that scapegoating was utilized to rather
extensive measures. As an example, German ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to renowned psychologist René Girard, human nature revolves around mimicry of others.
This imitation allows large groups of people to be united in pursuit of certain goals. Such unity is
combatted when there are conflicting interests among groups. More often than not, the opinion of the
largest party would overrule any minority, pressuring every individual to agree with the masses.
However, strife and conflict remain within the collective hearts of groups. In order for these
conflicting feelings to be released, a scapegoat must be chosen and burdened with the blame for
dissension. Scapegoating, as a function, falls under psychological projection an involuntary defense
mechanism that may displace one s source negative emotions and assign it to another. To blame an
individual for an action that they did not commit just to be rid of guilt or anger is displacing. The idea
of psychological displacing was first coined by Sigmund Freud, a defense mechanism. According to
the Father of Psychoanalysis , displacement is blaming others for your problems. Whether or not this
practice is ethical has been a question lying in the undercurrent of world wide arguments since the
beginning of time. Psychologists and sociologists have labeled scapegoating as a natural response and
a part of human nature. However, many have argued that scapegoating is personally degrading and
keeps the human race from advancing into a more united

Investigate how the Concentration of Sucrose Solution...
Investigate how the Concentration of Sucrose Solution affects the Mass of the Potato Chip
Aim
To find out how the concentration of sucrose solution affects the mass of the potato chip left in the
solution for one day.
Water Potential:
The water potential of a solution is a measure of whether it is likely to lose or gain water molecules
from another solution. A dilute solution, with its high proportion of free water molecules, is said to
have higher water potential than a concentrated solution, because water will flow from the dilute to the
concentrated solution (from a high potential to a low potential). Pure water has the highest possible
water potential because water molecules will flow from pure water to any other ... Show more content

A low concentration of sucrose in ratio to water will make the potato increase in length and mass.
I predict that when the sucrose concentration is low the potato chip will gain mass. This is because
there will be a higher water concentration in the potato chip so water will go into the potato from the
solution. I predict that when there is a high concentration of sucrose the potato will lose mass. This is
because there is a higher concentration of sucrose solution compared to that in the potato chip so water
from the potato will go into the solution to even it out.
In my experiment I will have a test tube with a potato chip in. The outside wall of the potato chip is
selectively permeable so it lets water pass through it but not bigger molecules such as sucrose. In the
test tubes I will put different concentrations of sucrose solution
When the concentration of the solution is lower than that in the potato, water will pass through the
selectively permeable wall into the potato. The mass of the potato chip increases.
RESULTS:

Gender Roles, Socialization and Relationships Essay examples
Watch the classical film Grease and one will understand how relationships function in western
Society. The film tells a story of a boy (Danny) and a girl (Sandy) who falls in love. Through a series
of misunderstandings they break up, but still care enough about each other that they still try revive
their relationship. Through ballads such as Summer Night s that are still popular today, the film shows
how differently males and females view relationships. Danny, for example, describes his relationship
in more physical terms while Sandy describes her relationship in much more emotional terms such as
what they did that night. Films like Grease are like a mirror, reflecting societal values and how it
socializes its members. It makes clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Males were more likely to score higher on tests that scale romanticism and are more prone to
recognize their romantic feelings much earlier than females (Kanin et al. 64). Since males tend to
recognize the love feeling earlier, for males to be determined as more romantic, the definition must be
based on the speed of the recognition of the romantic feeling (Kanin et al. 71). Look no further then
evolutionary history for an explanation of this. The ultimate goal of animals is to reproduce their
species. The constraints on their reproductive capability have a profound effect on their approach to
relationships. Males have large reproductive capacity. He simply must produce sperm cells and go
through with the act of copulation (Gray 79). This causes his reproductive capability to be limited by
the number of females he mates with and thus he tries to maximize his copulation attempts (Contrary
to popular belief, humans are not a monogamous species but a largely monogamous and partly
polgynous species) (Gray 79; 83). Furthermore, males have much less parental investment, which, if
Trivers theory is to be believed, would result in him being competitive for mates resulting in him
being the more aggressive sex (Gray 79). Since males must play the aggressor role in relationships, he
must be more responsive and attracted to physical stimuli (Kanin et al. 71). This requires him to
recognize his romantic feelings much more quickly then females.

Romeo And Juliet Film Review
Don t Hang Up Philosophy Philosophy Can Make A Movie
Film: Romeo and Juliet
Director: Baz Luhrmann
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio amp; Claire Danes
Plot: Two lovers of rival, disputing families take their lives.
Rating:
Reviewer: Claire Ginn
Welcome to Verona Beach, a sexy, violent other world, neither future nor past, ruled by two rival
families, the Montagues and the Capulets...
So begins Baz Luhrmann s production of Shakespeare s beloved play, quot;Romeo and Juliet, quot;
from the famous opening line of quot; Two Households both alike in dignity.. quot; to the tragic end,
the viewer is whisked away into the depths of heightened realism in the world of Verona Beach.
Casting includes Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo and ... Show more content on

Lots of music, fast cuts, fantastic cinematography and superb sets and costumes make it the lively tale
it was meant to be. These features also make the film somewhat cartoon like with a lot of heightened
realism. Don t expect to see British people prancing around in tights when you rent this one.
Luhrmann creates a world where gun toting youths sport Hawaiian shirts and beachfront brawls are an
everyday event.
Purists may hesitate, but the film uses its modern setting to its full potential and should be required
viewing for any director who looks to put a modern spin on the 400 year old play. Capulet and
Montague become warring Mafia leaders, the Prince of Verona is a police chief trying to overcome the
violence, and television anchors represent Shakespeare s traditional chorus. Other, more subtle
narrative devices work equally as well. No modern audience could mistake the significance of the
quot;attempted delivery quot; post it that falls off the door, never to be found. This isn t just an update;
director Baz Luhrmann has created a savvy exploitation of the film medium that assists the audience
with Shakespeare s dated language.
Giving the classic play this modern twist makes for a new understanding of the text and brings the
feud between the Montagues and the Capulets to a whole new, dramatic level. Shakespeare may be
rolling around in his grave after seeing this film, but English classes all over the world can breathe a
little easier when it comes time to take

Making An Outdoor Art Installation
When I thought about making an outdoor art installation, images of towering sculptures appeared in
my head. In the corner of one, I imagined a spider web. The web was truly intricate, delicate, and
breathtaking. Yet I desperately pushed the image away. Unable to shake the image, I was terrified that
the tiny artist who made that web would suddenly appear in my mind. When I realized how irrational
it was to fear an imaginary spider, I knew I had to make an installation of a spider web to face my
crippling arachnophobia. I reminded myself of a famous saying from Eleanor Roosevelt: You gain
strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the
face... you must do the thing which you think you cannot do. I wanted that confidence, and I needed to
believe I had enough strength and courage to create this piece.
As an artist, my innate need to create is based on a need to express myself. According to Drozt,
visionary art refers to art made with an inner vision or an intense feeling that is expressed throughout
the work (2008). Visionary art accurately captures the drive and feelings I experience when I feel
conceptually inspired, although I do not consider myself an outsider to artmaking. My work is always
personal and I strive to be genuine to that experience. Because of this experience, I have added a layer
of intentionality in my selection of materials and contemplation of the art s environment to my method
of working. When I

Symbols In The Minister s Black Veil
Minister s Black Veil is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne that more or less romanticizes
the madness behind sins. In this short story, the Minister Mr. Hooper, wears a Black Veil that hangs
from his forehead which he cannot seem to explain to anyone about. Everyone in town begins to
question and wonder what the meaning behind this black veil is. As Reverend Hooper explained to his
ex fiancee, the black veil signifies a secret sin that everyone has, but never reveals to anyone until,
Judgment Day, in the sunshine of eternity, will a person s veil be removed (Alexander, 1). I look
around me, and, lo! on every visage a Black Veil! (Hawthorne 345 ). This quote from the short story
symbolizes that perhaps everyone has their own sins which is why they show so much fear and
confusion towards the black veil that is resting on Mr. Hooper s face. His fiancee Elizabeth believed
that the black veil would cause commotion in the eyes of the people, but Mr. Hooper refused which
caused his engagement with his fiancee to come to an end. One main symbol in the short story is
irony. It is ironic that the most holiest man in town, or at least should be, feels the need to cover his
face because he feels that he has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mr. Hooper s funeral service he says, God is always watching, but in reality the townspeople are
always watching. Puritan towns were very small and close knit, everyone knew each other, so if you
ever misbehaved, they would know(Hawthorne, 338). That falls into appearance and interpretation
because the people of Milford, are not God, they do not know the status of the people s soul, but they
sure can judge and interpret what they see however they want. Years after the townspeople have been
watching Mr. Hooper s every move, Mr. Hooper himself had also been watching the townspeople
which is why he states in his deathbed that everybody at one point will wear a black

under the guise that he had forgotten his ID card. All it took was a nice business suit, and a smile.
Networking assessments, and change management were not done on a continuous basis against the
entire organization versus isolated segments. This enabled an administrator to attach a network

Data stored on the NAS device had a bigger financial impact than all the currency kept in every single

  • 2. Effects Of A Solar Eclipse What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as it blocks the sun s beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as if it is as dark as night and makes the sun look like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse, many things can happen that one would be astonished by observing such as, the actual object, changes in the atmosphere, animals and people s behavior, and emotional and sensual feelings. The object that appeared in the sky had everyone s attention and concentration, not only that day, but weeks before. Everyone had been talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned lessons, and posters lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety measures. A solar eclipse, an event appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with the experience of a lifetime. On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as a sun rise early in a summer s morning. It was so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it. The whole Middleton High School separated to go outside and watch the eclipse in different areas. The location where we watched the eclipse only allowed us to see the moon partially blocking the sun. We all saw the sun slowly lose its rays as the moon raced to appear in front. Although the total ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Copley and Benjamin West Copley s and West s Artwork Tiffin University Vanessa Bradley September 14, 2012 Melanie Trost ART310 American Art John Singleton Copley and Benjamin West were both painters and portraitures. John Copley and Benjamin West both had very distinct styles of artwork. There were also some comparisons between their artwork(s). I have decided to look further into Copley s and West s artwork(s) and this is what I have found. John Singleton Copley s painting: Mars, Venus, and Vulcan: The Forge of Vulcan features Venus which is the symbol of love and sex. It shows Venus as very seductive young woman. It also has cupid s arrows which also represents love. Half of the painting is painted dark giving the painting a dreadful feeling. Half ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Copley mainly painted people of wealth opposed to Benjamin West. Both painters used oil canvas for their paintings and portraits. • 4. Shakespeare s Rebuttal to Possibilities in Sonnet 96 Essay Shakespeare s Rebuttal to Possibilities in Sonnet 96 Shakespeare s apostrophic Sonnet 96, one of the sonnets written to the blond young man, is arranged similar to a rebuttal in an argument or debate. In the first three quatrains, he describes several possibilities, such as the youth s winning nature and potential for mischief, only to refute them in the couplet. He begins with concise one line points in the first quatrain, moves to a comparison utilizing the entire quatrain in the second, and transitions to two line arguments in the final quatrain, evoking the idea of a logical, organized argument. Along with reason, however, are the romantic tones of the couplet, which refutes the statements made in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second quatrain adjusts from end stopped lines to enjambed lines, with each idea occupying two lines, and the comparison of royalty s humble jewels to the young man s slight faults encompassing the entire quatrain. The quatrain becomes less like a simple argument and more like a well developed line of reasoning as the ideas in the first and third lines spill over to the second and fourth. Shakespeare contrasts the concept that [t]he basest jewel will be well esteem d (6) by association on the hand of royalty as errors the young man commits are [t]o truths translated (8). Although the technical pronunciation of translated puts the stress on the second syllable, many people commonly stress the first syllable, which creates a trochee in the second foot of line eight. The change from iambic to trochaic emphasizes the change from error to truth in the opinion of those who know the blond young man. The third quatrain differs again from the style of the second, shifting from enjambed lines two end stopped lines. However, the end stop is not as forceful as in the first quatrain, with each complete thought covering two lines, rather than one. As with the first quatrain, Shakespeare uses parallel structure to make his point apparent. He compares the full force of the young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Art Nouveau Research Paper Art Nouveau When one considers the term Art Nouveau, what comes to mind most immediately is images of a European wide invasion [characterized] by the restless dynamism of organic form (Silverman 1). For me it is usually the work of Alphonse Mucha his mysterious women surrounded by the beauties of nature. Often my Art Nouveau fantasies take shape in the odd fungal shaped stained glass lamps of Tiffany. Or sometimes they surface as the romantic Parisian posters I ve seen at Pier One, advertising champagne or cats noir or bicycles or the like. But no matter what ones notion may be of what Art Nouveau looks like, there is a feeling that accompanies it that is at the heart of the style s appeal. It is difficult to define or describe what ... In this poster for La Samaritaine(1894), he portrays her hair as long flowing locks that engulf her body much like the vines of a plant might do if she were frozen still in a garden for several days. In like manner the lines of her dress cascade down her body, emphasizing the beauty of her feminine form, this figure itself a frequent inspiration and facet of Art Nouveau works. Such lines are indicative of another key characteristic of the style the use of nature; for they engender an organic feeling in the work. It is important to distinguish between the use of the natural and the philosophy of Naturalism, a movement that Art Nouveau was consciously attempting to bring to an end. Naturalism seeks to portray things exactly as they are, as stark, often unflattering reality. Naturalists based this technique on the claim that true beauty will come across in the faithful representation of reality. This is exactly the opposite of how Art Nouveau artists sought to create their work. They believed in drawing from Nature the beauty she has to offer and accentuating it, doing so symbolically as opposed to realistically. Prominent Art Nouveau artist Siegfried Bing called nature the infallible code of all the laws of beauty (qtd. in Selz 14). All true Art Nouveau draws upon that code in one form or another, if not in the portrayal nature then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Disaster Planning Or Management Although there were numerous predictions that a category 4 or 5 could hit New Orleans, very little disaster planning or management was accomplished before Katrina hit in August 2005 (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). After Katrina made landfall August 29th, several sections of the levee system collapsed including levees protecting the Ninth Ward (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). The manmade MRGO channel caused the problems it was predicted; the channel increased the power and the size of the waves that destroyed many levees (Heerden, Kemp, Bea, Shaffer, Day, Morris, Fitzgerald, and Milanes, 2009, p306). By early September, people were forcibly evacuated and the storm displaced more than 1.5 million people (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). According to Lalwani, et al. (2007, p10), Katrina was the most destructive and costliest natural disaster in the history of the United States, with an estimated $75 billion worth of damage. Months after the hurricane, 3,200 people were unaccounted for and many of the low lying areas, most of which were poor and minority neighborhoods, were still under water. People were stranded in their homes or at evacuation centers without food or water. Those in charge did not supply those in need with aid in a timely manner that is expected. • 8. Roles Of Women In Aeneus Roles of Women in Virgil s Aeneid and in the Gospel of Luke The women in ancient Roman patriarchal society as seen in Virgil s Aeneid were limited by societal gendered roles and were undervalued by men. Contrastingly, Hebrew women as seen in the Gospel of Luke were viewed as equal to men because both were made in the image and likeness of God. Women were not important in the epic story of the founding of Rome whereas women were crucial in Jesus mission to preach the word of God. This essay will look at the roles of Creusa, Dido, and Lavina in the Aeneid and of Mary, Elizabeth, and Mary Magdalene in the Gospel of Luke. Roman society valued the tradition of law in the hands of the paterfamilias in which the father held absolute power over his wife, children, and slaves. The respect for fathers extended into the community and into politics creating a male dominated society. Women were subordinate to either their father or their husband. Despite their lower position in society, women were still expected to uphold Roman virtues such as pietas, the duty to one s family and country. Pietas for women referred to their duty to their family, especially to their husbands. Once a woman was married, she was expected to act honorably and respectably by remaining chaste and doing nothing else except for her household duties. Roman women were expected to stay out of public life and especially to stay out of politics. Throughout the Aeneid, the hero, Aeneas, had relations with three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Electoral College System Is Not Effective If I had the opportunity to change the Constitution of the United States of America, I would change the Electoral College system. Like many other Americans, I feel that the Electoral College system is not effective. It caries a notion of the state versus the people, electors oversee a large part of the country and is change the answer to this issue? I believe that times have changed and we need to reform the electoral system all while not changing the constitution. The Constitution of the United States of America created a system called the Electoral College where it outlines the rules in which we elect the President of the United States of America. As stated in Article 2, Section 1 of the U. S. Constitution created the Electoral College. Each state receives as many electoral votes as it has senators and representatives. Therefore, each state, including the District of Columbia, will have at least three electors. This is the vision of the Constitution. Now the problem arises when all the Electoral votes from one state are given to the popular winner for that state. This causes a with people s right to chose their leader as votes of the people that voted for the losing candidate are tossed in the trash. All this while giving the state the ultimate power to elect the president. The people of the loosing party on the state votes are not worth anything they are just given to the winner basically with the current electoral system. The system needs to be redesigned to ... • 11. The Theory Of The Political Economy The theory of the political economy in the context on media studies, is that behind every media product, has a commercial and economic imperative and as such, has particular impacts on the media content that would not exist if such imperatives ceased to exist. It is these impacts that both limit media products, and allow media products of a particular nature exist. A political economic approach in the production of media is in contrary to the nature of media itself; accuracy, integrity and authenticity are lost in favor to economic power. A capitalist society is one that exists within an exploitative framework. Our society exists and functions due to labor being exploited by those in a lower social class with the intention of economic profit for those who exploit others. (Marx and Moore, 2001) Ignoring the morality of this ideology, it enables a functioning society to a particular degree. When this theory is applied within the context of a political economy of media production, we can begin to understand its value. The nature of a capitalist society means that human labor worth a monetary value and that is exchanged between the exploiter and the exploited. As such, without a political economic influence, media products would cease to exist. Funding facilitates the production of media labor is required to create, produce, distribute and consume media. All media is influenced by the political economic circumstances, however, the extent in which this model impacts the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the current jury system in criminal law cases does not effectively meet the needs of society. This thesis is established by first examining the role that juries play in the criminal justice system and the various interests of those affected by juries. This is followed by a consideration of arguments for and against juries and reforms that may be made to the jury system. The jury represents the voice of the people, regardless, juries are ethnically un diverse, consist heavily of certain age groups and members of certain socioeconomic statuses. To ensure better representativeness, two specific reforms can be implemented. First, making avoiding jury duty more difficult. The list of excuses in the Act can be reduced to achieve this. Additionally, the reforms must address the racial diversity in juries. According to Israel, parties are likely to attempt to exclude Indigenous and other ethnic minorities from in the selection process (1998). However, for the jury to represent the voice of the people it must be racially diverse, as Australia is a very multicultural country. As a result, a possible reform is making it more difficult for the parties to object to certain jurors. To rectify the issue of a lack of competence in juries, a solution is to expand the kinds of cases that a judge only trials. At present, for example, complicated tax and fraud cases require a judge only trial. A reform is to make it possible for further kinds of cases to be added. An alternative reform is to allow an independent lawyer to explain issues to the jury outside of court sessions, rather than relying on the judges instructions alone. Soliloquy Of The Spanish Cloister Essay McKenzie Cramer Dr. Eller English 2002 13 October 2014 The Hypocritical Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister In the dramatic monologue Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister by Robert Browning, the reader is hurled into the psychotic ranting s of an unnamed friar. The protagonist of this poem is voicing his hatred for his fellow monk, Brother Lawrence, as he absentmindedly works in the monastery s garden. The tone of the poem is filled with disgust, hate, and bitterness, as the friar plays previous encounters with Brother Lawrence over in his head, mocking his speech as well as his actions. Although the only description that the reader receives about Brother Lawrence comes from the ranting s of the friar, he actually does not seem all that terrible. Many believe this reason plus environmental factors are what forced scientist to develop an alternative. The idea of a vehicle running off of electricity without a combustion engine sounds very extreme and futuristic. The majority of people fail to realize the electric car was originally introduced in the late 1800 s, but was eventually put to rest with the conveniences of gasoline power. The two currently competing sources of automobile energy have already duked it out about a century ago, and the once defeated electric car is off the mat for round 2. As described in Technologies Tortoise and Hare (2000DATE?) It is a dynamic process of competing strategies and, for the automotive industry, a very traumatic even in a vital historical drama. Electric vehicles played a small role in the pre industrialization era, but did have much significance. EV s started out as a method of transportation. For example, the electric train was very important in the distribution of coal out of mines because they don t clog the air with combustion affecting the miners. Electric taxi cabs were also used in London during the late 1800 s, they held the nickname hummingbirds due to their quiet hum. By 1899 the fastest land speed record was held by an electric car, reaching 65.7 mph! Many consumers also saw how appealing the electric vehicle was with the start up ... The couple working on the land is described as a perfect sympathy of movement , implying that there is a faultless harmony and order to their work. Then she details how everything comes from and returns to the earth and how everything undergoes a cycle of life and death. Buck makes sure to repeat the phrase over in order to emphasize the cyclicity of this process. She utilizes commas to separate parts of the sentence, lengthening the sentence, developing a calm attitude at least on part of the writer. Following that, the word so is used to display the inherent inevitability of this process. The short, terse sentence Each had his turn at the earth contrasts with the lengthy descriptive sentences previous to it to display what the author feels is the essence of the cycle. Similarly, in Let it Grow , the songwriters express the cyclicity of nature when he describes how the plow cuts round and round ; how the the ground is becoming to the next season ; and how the black dirt [is] live again . The cycle is briefly described when the songwriter says Seasons round, creatures great and small, up and down as we rise and fall . In essence, both excerpts explore the natural cycle of life. However, the excerpt from the novel discusses cooperation. A subtle metaphor is created where O lan represents the Earth and the production of a child is likened to the cultivation of the land. Thus, the necessity of the emphasis on Wang Lung and O lan working together. • 42. Examples Of Scapegoat The scapegoat was first seen in the 16th chapter of Leviticus, a book in the Bible. In this chapter, God told two leaders of Israel, Moses and Aaron, to make a sacrificial offering to rid the people of their sins. In obedience to God s command, Moses and Aaron took two goats needed to perform the ritual. The first goat, which was to be sacrificed as a sin offering, was killed and its blood was sprinkled on the Ark of the Covenant. The second goat was to be cursed with the sins of every Israelite, then released into uninhabited wilderness. This practice was to be performed every year as propitiation of Israel s collective sins. Observing past history, one can see that scapegoating was utilized to rather extensive measures. As an example, German ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to renowned psychologist René Girard, human nature revolves around mimicry of others. This imitation allows large groups of people to be united in pursuit of certain goals. Such unity is combatted when there are conflicting interests among groups. More often than not, the opinion of the largest party would overrule any minority, pressuring every individual to agree with the masses. However, strife and conflict remain within the collective hearts of groups. In order for these conflicting feelings to be released, a scapegoat must be chosen and burdened with the blame for dissension. Scapegoating, as a function, falls under psychological projection an involuntary defense mechanism that may displace one s source negative emotions and assign it to another. To blame an individual for an action that they did not commit just to be rid of guilt or anger is displacing. The idea of psychological displacing was first coined by Sigmund Freud, a defense mechanism. According to the Father of Psychoanalysis , displacement is blaming others for your problems. Whether or not this practice is ethical has been a question lying in the undercurrent of world wide arguments since the beginning of time. Psychologists and sociologists have labeled scapegoating as a natural response and a part of human nature. However, many have argued that scapegoating is personally degrading and keeps the human race from advancing into a more united ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Investigate how the Concentration of Sucrose Solution affects the Mass of the Potato Chip Aim To find out how the concentration of sucrose solution affects the mass of the potato chip left in the solution for one day. Water Potential: The water potential of a solution is a measure of whether it is likely to lose or gain water molecules from another solution. A dilute solution, with its high proportion of free water molecules, is said to have higher water potential than a concentrated solution, because water will flow from the dilute to the concentrated solution (from a high potential to a low potential). Pure water has the highest possible water potential because water molecules will flow from pure water to any other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A low concentration of sucrose in ratio to water will make the potato increase in length and mass. I predict that when the sucrose concentration is low the potato chip will gain mass. This is because there will be a higher water concentration in the potato chip so water will go into the potato from the solution. I predict that when there is a high concentration of sucrose the potato will lose mass. This is because there is a higher concentration of sucrose solution compared to that in the potato chip so water from the potato will go into the solution to even it out. In my experiment I will have a test tube with a potato chip in. The outside wall of the potato chip is selectively permeable so it lets water pass through it but not bigger molecules such as sucrose. In the test tubes I will put different concentrations of sucrose solution When the concentration of the solution is lower than that in the potato, water will pass through the selectively permeable wall into the potato. The mass of the potato chip increases. RESULTS: Concentration Initial mass Final mass Change in mass % change 0 0.91 0.96 0.05 5.50 0.1 0.92 0.94 0.02 2.17 0.2 1.14 0.83 ... Males were more likely to score higher on tests that scale romanticism and are more prone to recognize their romantic feelings much earlier than females (Kanin et al. 64). Since males tend to recognize the love feeling earlier, for males to be determined as more romantic, the definition must be based on the speed of the recognition of the romantic feeling (Kanin et al. 71). Look no further then evolutionary history for an explanation of this. The ultimate goal of animals is to reproduce their species. The constraints on their reproductive capability have a profound effect on their approach to relationships. Males have large reproductive capacity. He simply must produce sperm cells and go through with the act of copulation (Gray 79). This causes his reproductive capability to be limited by the number of females he mates with and thus he tries to maximize his copulation attempts (Contrary to popular belief, humans are not a monogamous species but a largely monogamous and partly polgynous species) (Gray 79; 83). Furthermore, males have much less parental investment, which, if Trivers theory is to be believed, would result in him being competitive for mates resulting in him being the more aggressive sex (Gray 79). Since males must play the aggressor role in relationships, he must be more responsive and attracted to physical stimuli (Kanin et al. 71). This requires him to recognize his romantic feelings much more quickly then females. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lots of music, fast cuts, fantastic cinematography and superb sets and costumes make it the lively tale it was meant to be. These features also make the film somewhat cartoon like with a lot of heightened realism. Don t expect to see British people prancing around in tights when you rent this one. Luhrmann creates a world where gun toting youths sport Hawaiian shirts and beachfront brawls are an everyday event. Purists may hesitate, but the film uses its modern setting to its full potential and should be required viewing for any director who looks to put a modern spin on the 400 year old play. Capulet and Montague become warring Mafia leaders, the Prince of Verona is a police chief trying to overcome the violence, and television anchors represent Shakespeare s traditional chorus. Other, more subtle narrative devices work equally as well. No modern audience could mistake the significance of the quot;attempted delivery quot; post it that falls off the door, never to be found. This isn t just an update; director Baz Luhrmann has created a savvy exploitation of the film medium that assists the audience with Shakespeare s dated language. Giving the classic play this modern twist makes for a new understanding of the text and brings the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets to a whole new, dramatic level. Shakespeare may be rolling around in his grave after seeing this film, but English classes all over the world can breathe a little easier when it comes time to take ... • 46. Making An Outdoor Art Installation When I thought about making an outdoor art installation, images of towering sculptures appeared in my head. In the corner of one, I imagined a spider web. The web was truly intricate, delicate, and breathtaking. Yet I desperately pushed the image away. Unable to shake the image, I was terrified that the tiny artist who made that web would suddenly appear in my mind. When I realized how irrational it was to fear an imaginary spider, I knew I had to make an installation of a spider web to face my crippling arachnophobia. I reminded myself of a famous saying from Eleanor Roosevelt: You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face... you must do the thing which you think you cannot do. I wanted that confidence, and I needed to believe I had enough strength and courage to create this piece. As an artist, my innate need to create is based on a need to express myself. According to Drozt, visionary art refers to art made with an inner vision or an intense feeling that is expressed throughout the work (2008). Visionary art accurately captures the drive and feelings I experience when I feel conceptually inspired, although I do not consider myself an outsider to artmaking. My work is always personal and I strive to be genuine to that experience. Because of this experience, I have added a layer of intentionality in my selection of materials and contemplation of the art s environment to my method of working. When I ... • 47. Symbols In The Minister s Black Veil Minister s Black Veil is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne that more or less romanticizes the madness behind sins. In this short story, the Minister Mr. Hooper, wears a Black Veil that hangs from his forehead which he cannot seem to explain to anyone about. Everyone in town begins to question and wonder what the meaning behind this black veil is. As Reverend Hooper explained to his ex fiancee, the black veil signifies a secret sin that everyone has, but never reveals to anyone until, Judgment Day, in the sunshine of eternity, will a person s veil be removed (Alexander, 1). I look around me, and, lo! on every visage a Black Veil! (Hawthorne 345 ). This quote from the short story symbolizes that perhaps everyone has their own sins which is why they show so much fear and confusion towards the black veil that is resting on Mr. Hooper s face. His fiancee Elizabeth believed that the black veil would cause commotion in the eyes of the people, but Mr. Hooper refused which caused his engagement with his fiancee to come to an end. One main symbol in the short story is irony. It is ironic that the most holiest man in town, or at least should be, feels the need to cover his face because he feels that he has a ... Policies were in place that should have mitigated against my team member being able to enter a branch however, employees were very trusting, had never practiced policies, and policies were rarely enforced. The team member had an employee hold the door for him under the guise that he had forgotten his ID card. All it took was a nice business suit, and a smile. Networking assessments, and change management were not done on a continuous basis against the entire organization versus isolated segments. This enabled an administrator to attach a network attached storage (NAS) device on the network.
