Legal Age Of Sexual Consent
Legal Age of Sexual Consent
Taylor Obert PSY 200B
March 16, 2017
Introduction Age of sexual consent refers to the age when an individual can consent to sexual activity.
Sexual activities are defined differently by countries, with there even being a difference between the
United States and Canada who share a border. The ages of consent also vary among countries and also
by individual state in the United States. Engaging in sexually activities with individuals that are not
the legal age of consent can result in criminal charges such as statutory rape, but many places have
exceptions. These exceptions include certain gaps in age varying place to place, as well as the defense
of not knowing the actual age of the victim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The states with the highest age of consent, which is 18 years old, are: Arizona, California, Delaware,
Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming (Barnett,
2016).
United States Age Gap Provisions and Mistake of Age Defense In some cases where the
individual/victim is not the legal age of consent and/or the defendant is over the age of 18 than there
may be an age gap provision of the law in the state that makes the offense less of a crime because of
the age gap, but it can still be prosecuted. The states that have the age gap provisions are: Alabama,
Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa,
Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New
Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont,
Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. No age gap provision in any state allows the defendant to
be more than 4 years older than the other party ( Age of Consent Chart , 2017). In the United States,
there are provisions called Romeo and Juliet Laws, which were made known by Texas. The purpose of
the Romeo and Juliet Laws is to prevent an individual from being charged with a criminal offense
and/or having to register as a sex offender because they engage in sexual

Monuments And Masculinity In Roland Emmerich s...
Monuments and Masculinity
Roland Emmerich s Independence Day (1996) mirrors the ideology of a sci fi film outlined by Susan
Sontag in the Imagination of Disaster so closely that it borders on a lack of creativity. That is what
qualifies this film as a revival of the sci fi genre following revisionist works like Steven Spielberg s
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982). This film, among other things, believes that femininity in leadership
will lead to disaster on the political stage and that personal relationships should mirror the ideals of
this government balance. This scene uses framing and set design re erect themes of the traditional sci
fi ideology such as the military embodiment of masculinity and the weak femininity of a scientist .
This scene also sets the stage for what Sontag calls the balance of a good war and the yearning for
peace which unfolds throughout the film. The ideology of Independence Day is despairingly
unoriginal, touching on almost all themes outlined by Sontag as what makes the science fiction genre.
Queuing up stage Sontag s third stage of the science fiction film, In the capital of the country,
conferences between scientists and the military take place... ; of course, the difference being these
shots are in Area 51. Intertitles clearly define for the viewer where the jet is heading, doing so it is
reinforcing the authority they have to travel there. This is an ironic move considering the random
assortment of civilians they have on board, and the lack of authority they had not even an hour prior.
The set design and misé en scene are so blatantly full of military machismo as the president is seen
peaking his character metamorphosis between an effeminate man and the strong leader. Slowly, a
beyond oversized commercial airliner prop pulls into the base s set absolutely truncating the figures in
every frame. The minimalist décor on the base exterior of the base contrasts with the extravagance of
the ridiculous jet. The implications of the size of the machine and the machismo of its passengers, or
the size of their genitals, is overbearing. It s one of the many phallic displays of power and
masculinity that can be seen throughout the film, but this one obviously aids as a visual

Forecasting Methodology
Forecasting Methodology
Forecasting is an integral part in planning the financial future of any business and allows the company
to consider probabilities of current and future trends using existing data and facts. Forecasts are vital
to every business organization and for every significant management decision. Forecasting, according
to Armstrong (2001), is the basis of corporate long run planning. Many times, this unique approach is
used not only to provide a baseline, but also to offer a prediction into the corporation s future. In the
functional areas of finance and accounting, forecasts provide the basis for budgetary planning and cost
control. Marketing relies on sales forecasting to plan new products, compensate sales personnel, and

Causal tries to understand the system underlying and surrounding the item being forecast. Under
Causal type there are Regression analysis, Econometric models and Leading indicators. Starting with
Regression analysis, similar to least squares method in time series but may contain multiple variables,
basis is that forecast is caused by the occurrence of other events. Econometric models the forecast
attempts to describe some sector of the economy by a series of interdependent equations. An
input/Output model focuses on sales of each industry to other firms and governments; it indicates the
changes in sales that a producer industry might expect because of purchasing changes by another
industry. Leading Indicators type are statistics moving in the same direction as the series being
forecast but move before the series, such as an increase in the price of gasoline indicating a future
drop in the sale of large cars.
Simulation Models are dynamic models; Dynamic modeling in organizations is the collective ability
to understand the implications of change over time. This skill lies at the heart of successful strategic
decision process. The availability of effective visual modeling and simulation enables the analyst and
the decision maker to boost their dynamic decision by rehearsing strategy to avoid hidden pitfalls.

Murders In The Rue Morgue And The Final Bet By Edgar Allen...
Culture is an important part of every person s life, it gives us messages that helps us understand other
people s point of view. Also, where that person is coming from and how they act, such as food,
dressing, family, weddings, and funerals. They also influence authors to write about them. Also,
learning about the cultures of the world makes us have a deeper understanding of the world and
history; as those amazing authors Abdelilah Hamdouchi The Final Bet , Edgar Allen Poe Murders in
the Rue Morgue , and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle The Sign of the Four did with their stories.

The culture influences the plot by . The culture influences his character by being a better detective and
almost knows everything by reading books. Observing him in these moods, I often dwelt meditatively
upon the old philosophy of the Bi Part Soul, and amused myself with the fancy of a double Dupin the
creative and the resolvent. It shows that the narrator is comparing him to famous philosophy. The
culture influences my appreciation by having a genius crime to solve.
In The sign of the Four by Doyle, I never guess. It is a shocking habit, destructive to the logical
faculty. Based on the culture in England it influences him by not having negative feeling toward the
life of a detective. The culture influences the plot by making Holmes an emotionless detective. The
culture influences my appreciation by not having a negative plot line of the story.
In conclusion, culture is a unique thing in novels and stories. Therefore, it helps the readers understand
the plot line, the characters, and theme in a better and easier way. It can also give us more information
about the characters live, such as where they live plus, the time periods. The detective novels give us

Antigone By Sophocles Antigone
In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two
brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles
dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body
of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage.
Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a
crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial
and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone
attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a
noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone s
suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with
personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member
alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women.
How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes
nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger
build than women. We have to assume that she doesn t want to elicit help from others because the risk

Essay about International Differences
International Differences
Did you ever think about what it takes for an international student to come to America for a college
education? They have to leave their family and friends, just as we do, but at a much farther distance. I
cannot imagine amount of money and time it must take to plan a trip across the world, all for a new,
exciting learning experience.
Right now, many of us have just moved to a large university and begun a life on our own. It seems like
a tough idea to grasp when you are just starting to look at colleges, while still in high school or
another point in your life. When the time comes, though, hopefully you will be ready for a change.

She likes the Iowa State campus, as it is comfortable to her.
I asked Jennifer what some of the differences are here in America as compared to Indonesia. She said
that the classes in her city were small and students were to shy to ask questions. Here, there are larger
classes and more active students. She also said that people converse a lot more here than in Indonesia.
Americans spend a lot more time interacting in this way. One trivial fact I learned was that in
Indonesia you become boyfriend or girlfriend with someone before you go on any dates. Here, of
course, it is usually the opposite case.
Jennifer also told me of a few similarities she has noticed while spending time in the U.S. First, we are
all students, working toward a goal. Each person has his or her own personal goal and way of
working. Also, group work is an enormous part of the Iowa State community. She said that in
Indonesia, group work is not encouraged quite as much, but it is still an important element of a good
education.
Also, imagine what international students think about the terrorism of the last week. Can you believe
that it might be tough for them to handle the American s sad and angry feelings? Do you think they
might be worrying about their family and friends back home? I believe that it is hard for anyone to
endure a change in life. During these hard times, it seems natural for cultures to pull together and
work as one.

Long-Distance Races throughout Time
Long distances races have been part of cultures and traditions since centuries and have also been used
for economic and travelling purposes. It was also used as a message service, when messengers ran to
cover long distances in order to convey messages from one place to another. Since the end of 19th
century it has been used and recognized also as a sport, when it was first incorporated in the 1896
Olympics. Long distance races start from 5 to 10 kilometers and are usually longer than 40 kilometers
in length, projected to test and increase the physical endurance of the people. It is also physically
healthy and increases the stamina of the people that can be useful in other fields and activities of life
like participation in armed forces and activities like exercising, aerobics and yoga (Kim, et al.). There
is an art behind the ability to run long distance races. Some characteristics that are essential are natural
and God gifted such as length of the legs and stamina to some extent (Roecker, et al.). Other abilities
can be trained and developed to enhance the skill of running long distances and competing in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Immediate Syntact Analysis
Immediate constituent analysis (IC analysis) was presented by American structural linguist Leonard
Bloomfield in 1933 (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1998). According to him, it refers to a system of
grammatical analysis that divides sentences into successive layers, or constituents, until, in the final
layer, each constituent consists of only a word or meaningful part of a word. (Encyclopædia
Britannica, 1998) With advantages and disadvantages, it makes multiple influences on linguistics. On
the one hand, by revealing syntactic structures of sentences, it can facilitate the study of syntactic
relations, the study of the recursiveness and creativity of language, as well as the study of syntactic
ambiguity. However, on the other hand, it is difficult to employ this approach to analyze certain
complex sentences in practice and to reveal certain syntactic ambiguity. This essay will introduce ...

From the above explanations and examples, it has been proven that the IC analysis is beneficial to the
study of the three syntactic relations in that it can clearly divide sentences into hierarchical structures.
What is more, the second advantage of the IC analysis is that it is helpful to the study of the
recursiveness and creativity of language. By definition, recursiveness means to extend sentences by
conjoining and embedding to form hypotactic or paratactic sentence structures (Hu, 2011). Together
with openness, it reveals the creativity of language (Hu, 2011). Take the sentence The girl is watering

Spolia In Ancient Rome
Reuse, reduce, recycle a slogan coined in our era of attempting to reduce waste captures the zeitgeist
of the late Roman antiquity in the form of the radical and controversial practice of spolia. The growing
presence of spolia the practice of reusing remains from ruined buildings in the urban landscape of late
classical Rome derived from the decline of ancient Rome in the 3rd century. This practice continued
through the Middle Ages, with a more apparent presence in the twelfth century, and then declined
during Italian Renaissance when artistic practice was crucial to the resurgence of classical tradition.

First and foremost, the aesthetics of spolia were greatly desired. Spolia would have been crafted
during the Roman antiquity, a period in which Rome culturally flourished. After the decline and
eventual fall of Rome, the work produced and displayed during the antiquity was seen to be the key to
re establish the greatness of Rome. During the crisis of supply in the 3rd century, it was impossible for
Rome to source the materials needed for their lavish and ambitious constructions. Spolia, although
controversial and deemed unfavourable at the time, provided a solution to the problematic situation.
Roman column displays exist only to be seen and without such columns, buildings would be seen to
have had little classical stature; they highlighted not only the advanced expertise of Rome but also
placed Rome as the leader of classical culture. Bases and capitals were aesthetic symbols of the period
of transition. Guidelines for aesthetic colonnades were created by Vitruvius, the Roman author, who

Why China s Fall Would Have On The Global Economy
Using the elements of PEST analysis as a framework discuss what impact you consider China s fall
would have on the global economy.
The Chinese economy can be viewed as the cornerstone of the global economy. The current global
GDP, measured in purchasing power parity of nearly 60%, as well as current international rate of
growth at more than 80%, is primarily accounted for by China and other neighbouring middle income
countries, such as India or Vietnam.[1] These numbers are significant in understanding our global
economy, which is widely interconnected through alliances of trade, laws and finance, thereby
affecting our daily lives politically, economically, socially and technologically.[2] With recent analysis
indicating that China s growth has declined to about 6.8% by the end of 2015[3], how would a crash in
China s economy affect the global market?
Following the 2008 2009 global economic crash, emerging markets like China with a rapid growth
rate were presumed to safeguard the larger economies of the European Union, Japan and the United
States. As China expanded its industrial revolution with an unprecedented annual growth rate and
increased international trade, many countries in particular Germany benefited economically. Germany
became one of China s main suppliers for technology that it required in order to produce goods, as
well as luxury products such as cars for the new money generation of entrepreneurs; Chinese buying
power currently makes up 6.6% of Germany s

Riemann remembers being arrested and then taken to a dungeon in Ludwigslut. It was there that
Riemann was questioned and broken down until she was forced to confess to a crime she had not

that the main purpose of the prisons was for interrogating prisoners. They were to confess to a crime
they did not commit and these accusations were usually entirely false (Gulag: Soviet Prison Camps
and Their Legacy page 26), as was the case of Riemann. The atrocities that Erika Riemann
experienced and observed during her time in the camps can be evidenced through the secondary
sources that states that there was a surge of random arrests that were made that came to a point where
an internal review made by the Soviet authorities presented the wrongful arrests of 35000 people as it
was the case for Riemann. In 1948, most of the people who were unjustly arrested were released.

Geometry in Golf Essay
Bringing it all Together: The Geometry of Golf
Golf in Geometry?? No Way!
Geometry In The Game of Golf
For hundreds of years, golf has been an extremely popular and growing sport all around the world.
Looking where golf is now, it is growing rapidly from the young to the elder population. The first
round of gold was first played in the 15th century off the coast of Scotland, but it did not start to be
played until around 1755. The standard rules of golf were written by a group of Edinburgh golfers.
Today, people of the US, Scotland, and England, have been drawn to the game because it is fun,
challenging, and hardly any athletic ability at all is required for amateurs. In breaking down the game,

In golf geometry is al around but it just takes one to stand back and look how line, angles, and shapes
are all around. Five geometry topics that are most prevalent in the game of golf include circumference
of circles, parallel lines, triangles, radius and diameter, and angle measurement. If none of these
geometric ideas were in golf, the game would not be here right now. The first geometric topic
involved in golf is the circumference of circles. For people who do not know the objective of the game
of golf, it is fairly simple. Put the ball in the hole. The circumference of the hole is 13.35 inches, while
the diameter is 4.25 inches. It is extremely important that the creators of the course measure each
distance from the tee box to the hole. Also, the diameter of a regulation golf ball is 1.68 inches. The
circumference is 5.28 inches. Though it is not clear exactly how the standard measurement of the hole
came up, it is obvious that it greatly affects the scores of golfers. If it was made a little bit smaller,
scores will rise greatly. If the hole were too be made a little bit bigger, and scores would come down
significantly.
Moreover, parallel lines are very important to the game of golf. In the golf swing, if a full swing is
taken, the club should always be parallel to the ground when the club is at the furthest point back. If
the club is not taken all the way back it takes away the distance and if

Theme Of Flowers In Sons And Lovers
David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September, 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England.
His father, named Arthur Lawrence, was a coal miner and his mother, Lydia Lawrence, worked in the
lace making industry. Lawrence was a noted author of novels, short stories, essays, plays and poems,
and is nowadays considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century (Biography.com
Editors). One of his most acknowledged novels is Sons and Lovers , published in 1913, in which he
depicts the life of a working class family: The Morels. In this book, Lawrence employs symbols in
order to the help the reader understand the innermost feelings of each of the characters, as well as to
describe their main personality traits.
In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs
Gertrude Morel´s feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel tried
to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front garden was
a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the scent of flowers
and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Sons and Lovers. England. Penguin Books, 1976.

than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000
are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount
of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy
food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining
enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people.
Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to
conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for
viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the
amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko
Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout
Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as
their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their
cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko
Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed
to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can
be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to
recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been stopped yet and
the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing.
According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hunger and
preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections
(Guerrero). The malnutrition in Nigeria may not seem like such a problem; however, it is a major one.
The Nigerian population cannot grow

Equal Employment Opportunity Law Small Business
Equal Employment Opportunity Law Small Business
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a five member body appointed by the
President to establish equal employment opportunity policy under the laws it administers (p. 827,
Twomey Jennings, 2014). The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to
discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person s race, color, religion, sex
(including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information (Overview,
EEOC, 2014). These federal laws include Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended in
1972, 1978, and 1991, along with the Equal Pay Act (EPA), and the Age Discrimination in
Employment Act (ADEA).
Most employers with at least 15 employees are covered by EEOC laws. The EEOC website very
clearly warns that not all small businesses are covered by the laws the EEOC enforces, therefore not
all employees are protected. According to the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau, more than 47% of all U.S.
businesses have fewer than 10 employees (p.43, Gentry et al., 2013). This means a significant portion
of the workforce is not protected under EEO Law.
Defining Small Business There is a reason the term small business is vague; it reflects the lack of a
generally accepted definition. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has established
numerical definitions of small businesses. These size standards vary to reflect industry

most effective? The three methods for the control of greenhouse gases are from the textbook on page

a. Limit transportation by car (Drive less) less driving means fewer emissions.
b. Turn off your lights and appliances Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights
when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need.
c. Limit use of hot water buy low flow showerheads to save hot water and about 350 pounds of carbon
dioxide yearly.
In my opinion, I believe all methods mentioned above will be effective but limiting the use of cars
may be the most effective because every gallon

Case Study Of Textile Gulshan Mills
1. What are the major problems at Textile Gulshan Mills and reasons for them?
Hiring the people from the different cultures is not necessary to lead the cultural conflicts. There are
some regions, in which the people prefer their cultures and these expectations then lead to cultural
conflict. The situation with textile Gulshan mills is based on the differences of ethnic groups that are
common across Pakistan. The conflict makers were not working together but also living together
under a single roof. This problem was the complex matter, If the company managed the conflict
inadequately, the problems eventually leading companies to result to expensive policy makers to
control the problems.

Ethics and Research
In 1932 the American Government conducted a study named the Tuskegee Syphilis study, this project
was administered by the US Health in Macon County, Alabama. The Government promises 600 plus
African American citizens access to free medication and access to proper health care. This study
subjects was all tested positive for Syphilis when they enrolled for the study. However, these subjects
were denied medicine and were experimented on to help the Government to better understand the
Syphilis virus. The men in this study weren t aware of the research design and possible danger to them
and their families. (Carol Heintzelman 2003 p.1) This study went on for the next forty years.

(Earl Babbie 2008 p 69). These risks include any medical or psychology harm to the subjects. The
Tuskegee Syphilis Study didn t tell their subjects any particulars of the research and withheld
information from them. This study also brought up the concerns of the possibility that a person might
feel pressured to agree or might not understand what they agreeing to. (Heintzelman 2003 p.1). The
subjects agreed to free medication, which proposes the question that they might not of understood
what that entails.
Another issue with this is that the Government Doctors also failed to obtain informed consent from the
subjects; they disregarded the human rights of the subjects and committed medical misconduct. These
Doctors failed to provide medication, Penicillin, which was deemed safe by this study, to the subjects.
According to Ogungbure, although the black participants in the Tuskegee Study had no formal school
education, the medical experts were not morally justified to deprive them of their right to know about
the dangerous procedures they would be subjected to, including the painful spinal tap, unimaginable
psychological stress, and constant body piercing. (Ogungbure 2011 p 84)
Withholding Treatment for research purposes
The Second ethical principle ignored by the research was withholding treatment for research purposes.

Harry S. Truman s Life
Over seventy years ago, one may have thought that one of most courageous, hard working, honest,
and loyal men was sworn into office as the President of the United States. Harry S. Truman was
considered One Tough Son of a Bitch due to his expertise, not because of his ordinary, basic look or
lack of college education. No matter how people perceived him, Truman had industrial strength; he
stood his ground on his beliefs. His life would take him one of the most elaborate rides one could
experience. Truman s formative years taught him endurance, his life in the war taught him courage,
and presidency taught him resilience. Although when growing up Truman was never allowed to
roughhouse or horseplay with other children because his mother truly sheltered him because of his
glasses. He considered himself a sissy and a bookworm. Truman worked on the Truman Farm. He was
a real farmer, he worked in all types of weather, with crops that had failed to insect plagues to debt.
His family was never out of debt. Truman lived with no electricity or running water and experienced a
young life of hardships. As a young boy he stood in the kitchen and watched a country doctor give his
mother an emergency appendectomy on their kitchen table while he held the lantern so that the doctor
perform the surgery. As a matter of fact, after Harry Vaughn learned and knew all of these things about
Truman, this is why his old friend Vaughn called him one tough son of a bitch of a man. Vaughn knew

An Analysis of the Characters Relationship Development in...
An Analysis of the Characters Relationship Development in Roman Holiday from the Perspective of
Politeness Principle 1. Introduction Roman Holiday is a classical romance comedy film in which a
reporter falls in love with a runaway European princess. As a very influential film, Roman Holiday
makes a deep impression on the audience with its funny plots and expressive dialogues. However,
most of the critics attribute its success to the plot arrangement and actors performance. As far as the
author concern, the film dialogues also plays an important role. Moreover, many scholars, who are
engaged in linguistic studies, begin to apply linguistic approach to analyze film dialogues, the results
are interesting and inspiring. Some critics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since there are many polite and courteous dialogues in Roman Holiday, which, to some extent,
correspond to the above maxims. Therefore, the followings are the practical analysis of the dialogues
in Roman Holiday on the basis of the six maxims of Leech s Politeness Principle. 3.Analysis of the
dialogues in Roman Holiday 3.1 Manifestation of Tact Maxim in Roman Holiday Tact Maxim is
oriented towards other s interests, wants and needs. It is often used in directive situations, such as
requests, which are often indirect, tentative, giving an opportunity to refuse, and also minimizing
speaker s imposition on hearer. It has positive and negative sub maxims: Minimize the cost to other.
Maximize the benefit to other. In the film, there are many conversations observing this maxim. When
poor Joe wants to borrow some money from the landlord Giovanni so as to take the princess out down
the town and make an exclusive interview on her. Joe asked in an indirect way: Joe: Swell! Thanks a
lot. Oh er, Giovanni, er... How would you like to make some money? Giovanni: Money? Joe: Yeah.
That s the stuff. Now look, I ve got a sure thing: double your money back in two days. Giovanni:

same thought kept entering my mind someday this going to be me , and I could not be happier. While
Mrs. Provost willingly and patiently answered each question I realized the obligation of educating in
the department of special education is challenging at times. The commitment is tremendous, but when

Civil Disobedience In The US
What is civil disobedience? Civil disobedience is the opposing of a law one finds unjust by refusing to
follow it and accepting the consequences. So many people have performed acts of civil disobedience
from Martin Luther King Jr. to everyday people. But what people did as civil disobedience a hundred
years ago is completely different today. It is such an important part of a free society because it helps to
define what a free society is, shows the true meaning of freedom of speech, and shows the government
that citizens are not willing to follow an unjust law without violence. Illinois governor, Adlai
Stevenson, defined a free society where people feel safe to be unpopular which means that one s
religion, opinion, etc. should not get them in trouble with the law in any way. Former Indiana
Governor, now Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence banned the immigration of Syrian
refugees because of the terrorist attack in Paris aided by Islamic terrorists. The ... Show more content

If the government passes a law there will be many different opinions. When same sex marriage was
legalized in all states, some rejoiced while others protested. This shows that America is so diverse in
every aspect, from religion to opinion. Each person has their own opinions and beliefs, they may be
the same as their friends and family members or completely different. And each opinion is a powerful
thing. Opinions are what people act upon when performing acts of civil disobedience. One may not do
much by itself but when hundreds, even thousands, of people acting upon the same opinion do so
peacefully, it shows how united yet diverse a country can be. This is why civil disobedience creates a
positive impact on society. It helps to define a free society, shows the true meaning of freedom of
speech, peacefully shows the government that its people are not willing to follow an immoral law, and

  • 3. Legal Age Of Sexual Consent Legal Age of Sexual Consent Taylor Obert PSY 200B March 16, 2017 Introduction Age of sexual consent refers to the age when an individual can consent to sexual activity. Sexual activities are defined differently by countries, with there even being a difference between the United States and Canada who share a border. The ages of consent also vary among countries and also by individual state in the United States. Engaging in sexually activities with individuals that are not the legal age of consent can result in criminal charges such as statutory rape, but many places have exceptions. These exceptions include certain gaps in age varying place to place, as well as the defense of not knowing the actual age of the victim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The states with the highest age of consent, which is 18 years old, are: Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming (Barnett, 2016). United States Age Gap Provisions and Mistake of Age Defense In some cases where the individual/victim is not the legal age of consent and/or the defendant is over the age of 18 than there may be an age gap provision of the law in the state that makes the offense less of a crime because of the age gap, but it can still be prosecuted. • 4. Monuments And Masculinity In Roland Emmerich s... Monuments and Masculinity Roland Emmerich s Independence Day (1996) mirrors the ideology of a sci fi film outlined by Susan Sontag in the Imagination of Disaster so closely that it borders on a lack of creativity. That is what qualifies this film as a revival of the sci fi genre following revisionist works like Steven Spielberg s E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982). This film, among other things, believes that femininity in leadership will lead to disaster on the political stage and that personal relationships should mirror the ideals of this government balance. This scene uses framing and set design re erect themes of the traditional sci fi ideology such as the military embodiment of masculinity and the weak femininity of a scientist . This scene also sets the stage for what Sontag calls the balance of a good war and the yearning for peace which unfolds throughout the film. The ideology of Independence Day is despairingly unoriginal, touching on almost all themes outlined by Sontag as what makes the science fiction genre. Queuing up stage Sontag s third stage of the science fiction film, In the capital of the country, conferences between scientists and the military take place... ; of course, the difference being these shots are in Area 51. Intertitles clearly define for the viewer where the jet is heading, doing so it is reinforcing the authority they have to travel there. This is an ironic move considering the random assortment of civilians they have on board, and the lack of authority they had not even an hour prior. The set design and misé en scene are so blatantly full of military machismo as the president is seen peaking his character metamorphosis between an effeminate man and the strong leader. Slowly, a beyond oversized commercial airliner prop pulls into the base s set absolutely truncating the figures in every frame. The minimalist décor on the base exterior of the base contrasts with the extravagance of the ridiculous jet. The implications of the size of the machine and the machismo of its passengers, or the size of their genitals, is overbearing. It s one of the many phallic displays of power and masculinity that can be seen throughout the film, but this one obviously aids as a visual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forecasting Methodology Forecasting Methodology Forecasting is an integral part in planning the financial future of any business and allows the company to consider probabilities of current and future trends using existing data and facts. Forecasts are vital to every business organization and for every significant management decision. Forecasting, according to Armstrong (2001), is the basis of corporate long run planning. Many times, this unique approach is used not only to provide a baseline, but also to offer a prediction into the corporation s future. Also, where that person is coming from and how they act, such as food, dressing, family, weddings, and funerals. They also influence authors to write about them. Also, learning about the cultures of the world makes us have a deeper understanding of the world and history; as those amazing authors Abdelilah Hamdouchi The Final Bet , Edgar Allen Poe Murders in the Rue Morgue , and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle The Sign of the Four did with their stories. Observing him in these moods, I often dwelt meditatively upon the old philosophy of the Bi Part Soul, and amused myself with the fancy of a double Dupin the creative and the resolvent. It shows that the narrator is comparing him to famous philosophy. The culture influences my appreciation by having a genius crime to solve. In The sign of the Four by Doyle, I never guess. It is a shocking habit, destructive to the logical faculty. Based on the culture in England it influences him by not having negative feeling toward the life of a detective. The culture influences the plot by making Holmes an emotionless detective. The culture influences my appreciation by not having a negative plot line of the story. In conclusion, culture is a unique thing in novels and stories. Therefore, it helps the readers understand the plot line, the characters, and theme in a better and easier way. It can also give us more information about the characters live, such as where they live plus, the time periods. The detective novels give us an example of how a detective solve crimes in real ... • 7. Antigone By Sophocles Antigone In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage. Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone s suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women. How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger build than women. They have to leave their family and friends, just as we do, but at a much farther distance. I cannot imagine amount of money and time it must take to plan a trip across the world, all for a new, exciting learning experience. Right now, many of us have just moved to a large university and begun a life on our own. She said that the classes in her city were small and students were to shy to ask questions. Here, there are larger classes and more active students. She also said that people converse a lot more here than in Indonesia. Americans spend a lot more time interacting in this way. One trivial fact I learned was that in Indonesia you become boyfriend or girlfriend with someone before you go on any dates. Here, of course, it is usually the opposite case. Jennifer also told me of a few similarities she has noticed while spending time in the U.S. First, we are all students, working toward a goal. Each person has his or her own personal goal and way of working. Also, group work is an enormous part of the Iowa State community. She said that in Indonesia, group work is not encouraged quite as much, but it is still an important element of a good education. Also, imagine what international students think about the terrorism of the last week. Can you believe that it might be tough for them to handle the American s sad and angry feelings? Do you think they might be worrying about their family and friends back home? I believe that it is hard for anyone to endure a change in life. • 11. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Immediate Syntact Analysis Immediate constituent analysis (IC analysis) was presented by American structural linguist Leonard Bloomfield in 1933 (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1998). According to him, it refers to a system of grammatical analysis that divides sentences into successive layers, or constituents, until, in the final layer, each constituent consists of only a word or meaningful part of a word. (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1998) With advantages and disadvantages, it makes multiple influences on linguistics. On the one hand, by revealing syntactic structures of sentences, it can facilitate the study of syntactic relations, the study of the recursiveness and creativity of language, as well as the study of syntactic ambiguity. However, on the other hand, it is difficult to employ this approach to analyze certain complex sentences in practice and to reveal certain syntactic ambiguity. This essay will introduce ... By definition, recursiveness means to extend sentences by conjoining and embedding to form hypotactic or paratactic sentence structures (Hu, 2011). Together with openness, it reveals the creativity of language (Hu, 2011). Take the sentence The girl is watering the flower. (Tian Zhao, 2007) for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Spolia In Ancient Rome Reuse, reduce, recycle a slogan coined in our era of attempting to reduce waste captures the zeitgeist of the late Roman antiquity in the form of the radical and controversial practice of spolia. The growing presence of spolia the practice of reusing remains from ruined buildings in the urban landscape of late classical Rome derived from the decline of ancient Rome in the 3rd century. This practice continued through the Middle Ages, with a more apparent presence in the twelfth century, and then declined during Italian Renaissance when artistic practice was crucial to the resurgence of classical tradition. First and foremost, the aesthetics of spolia were greatly desired. Spolia would have been crafted during the Roman antiquity, a period in which Rome culturally flourished. After the decline and eventual fall of Rome, the work produced and displayed during the antiquity was seen to be the key to re establish the greatness of Rome. During the crisis of supply in the 3rd century, it was impossible for Rome to source the materials needed for their lavish and ambitious constructions. Spolia, although controversial and deemed unfavourable at the time, provided a solution to the problematic situation. Roman column displays exist only to be seen and without such columns, buildings would be seen to have had little classical stature; they highlighted not only the advanced expertise of Rome but also placed Rome as the leader of classical culture. Bases and capitals were aesthetic symbols of the period of transition. Guidelines for aesthetic colonnades were created by Vitruvius, the Roman author, who organised them into three groupings (Doric, Ionic and Corinthian) which would portray a certain ... But when a 776,000 pound jetliner disappears, On March 8th, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight 370 disappeared from radar during a flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Beijing, China. 239 people disappeared, and nobody knows why, the world wants answers. Some people think that the pilot intentionally crashed the jet, but others think that it was an accident. The disappearance of flight MH370 had no human interaction resulting in the crash. Are there reasons that the investigation has taken so long and still, nothing has turned up? There were complications that hindered the discovery of the doomed flight. The investigation of MH370 took scientists, (researchers / investigators) to places they had never been before. ¨The tragedy of MH370 took scientists to places that nobody had ever seen before with any clarity¨ (Elder 1). The investigation for MH370 was / is very complicated and the scientists were looking in parts of the ocean that were never studied. • 14. Why China s Fall Would Have On The Global Economy Using the elements of PEST analysis as a framework discuss what impact you consider China s fall would have on the global economy. The Chinese economy can be viewed as the cornerstone of the global economy. The current global GDP, measured in purchasing power parity of nearly 60%, as well as current international rate of growth at more than 80%, is primarily accounted for by China and other neighbouring middle income countries, such as India or Vietnam.[1] These numbers are significant in understanding our global economy, which is widely interconnected through alliances of trade, laws and finance, thereby affecting our daily lives politically, economically, socially and technologically.[2] With recent analysis indicating that China s growth has declined to about 6.8% by the end of 2015[3], how would a crash in China s economy affect the global market? Following the 2008 2009 global economic crash, emerging markets like China with a rapid growth rate were presumed to safeguard the larger economies of the European Union, Japan and the United States. As China expanded its industrial revolution with an unprecedented annual growth rate and increased international trade, many countries in particular Germany benefited economically. Germany became one of China s main suppliers for technology that it required in order to produce goods, as well as luxury products such as cars for the new money generation of entrepreneurs; Chinese buying power currently makes up 6.6% of Germany s ... • 15. Erika Riemann Research Paper The story of Erika Riemann is a rather upsetting one to say the least. Erika Riemann was a political prisoner of war. She was to be imprisoned for 10 years as a teenager, 18 months of which was spent in Sachsenhausen. Riemann was only a young girl, 14 years old, when the soviets believed her to be an anti communist and thus the majority of Riemann s life was spent in concentration camps. Her crime? That she drew a bow on a picture of Josef Stalin s moustache. When World War II ended, concentration camps that the Nazis had used for imprisonment of many victims of the war and the Nazi regime, which had supposedly been abolished, were now converted by the Soviet powers. It was there that Riemann was questioned and broken down until she was forced to confess to a crime she had not committed or been a part of as a part of a Nazi movement (Molloy 2009). The secondary source states that the main purpose of the prisons was for interrogating prisoners. They were to confess to a crime they did not commit and these accusations were usually entirely false (Gulag: Soviet Prison Camps and Their Legacy page 26), as was the case of Riemann. The atrocities that Erika Riemann experienced and observed during her time in the camps can be evidenced through the secondary sources that states that there was a surge of random arrests that were made that came to a point where an internal review made by the Soviet authorities presented the wrongful arrests of 35000 people as it was the case for Riemann. In 1948, most of the people who were unjustly arrested were released. Thousands of others who were not released were passed on to the East German powers for their sentences to be completed in similarly appalling conditions in 1949 (Kitchen ... Geometry In The Game of Golf For hundreds of years, golf has been an extremely popular and growing sport all around the world. Looking where golf is now, it is growing rapidly from the young to the elder population. The first round of gold was first played in the 15th century off the coast of Scotland, but it did not start to be played until around 1755. The standard rules of golf were written by a group of Edinburgh golfers. In golf geometry is al around but it just takes one to stand back and look how line, angles, and shapes are all around. Five geometry topics that are most prevalent in the game of golf include circumference of circles, parallel lines, triangles, radius and diameter, and angle measurement. If none of these geometric ideas were in golf, the game would not be here right now. The first geometric topic involved in golf is the circumference of circles. For people who do not know the objective of the game of golf, it is fairly simple. Put the ball in the hole. The circumference of the hole is 13.35 inches, while the diameter is 4.25 inches. It is extremely important that the creators of the course measure each distance from the tee box to the hole. Also, the diameter of a regulation golf ball is 1.68 inches. The circumference is 5.28 inches. Though it is not clear exactly how the standard measurement of the hole came up, it is obvious that it greatly affects the scores of golfers. If it was made a little bit smaller, scores will rise greatly. If the hole were too be made a little bit bigger, and scores would come down significantly. Moreover, parallel lines are very important to the game of golf. In the golf swing, if a full swing is taken, the club should always be parallel to the ground when the club is at the furthest point back. There is more fruit in a rich man s shampoo than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000 are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people. Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to recapture the sites taken, especially Borno.
