Gun Laws And Gun Violence In The United States
Gun violence is a serious matter in the united states. In this essay I will tell you about gun laws and
gun death rates, what death rates numbers are and what they include, what states have the highest and
lowest death rates, what the Brady Act is and what it enforces and does for gun laws, what gun
regulations are revoked and overlooked, how to make it harder to get guns could save lives, how the
National Rifle Association say gun regulations have no effect on crime, and can particular laws help
with reducing gun related deaths.
A death rate number is the number of deaths per 100,000 people (Robertson, Lori) Firearm deaths
include homicide, suicide, accidents, and legal intervention. (gun laws vs. gun deaths) Suicides make
up more than half of the total gun related deaths in the united states. These are the amount of how
much each type of deaths makeup suicide (63.5), homicide (32.6), accidental (1.7), legal intervention
(1.4), undetermined (0.8). (Gun laws vs. Gun deaths)
States death rates vary only if they have strict gun laws/ regulations or not. From a study in 2013 the
top ten states with the highest firearm deaths rates were Alaska (19.8), Louisiana (19.3), Mississippi
(17.8), Alabama (17.6), Arkansas (16.8), Wyoming (16.7), Montana (16.7), Oklahoma (16.5), New
Mexico (15.5), and Tennessee (15.4). (Robertson, Lori) The south is a high risk for gun violence. The
states with lowest are Hawaii (5.3), California (6.4), Minnesota (6.5), Connecticut (6.6).

Benefits Of Cloning In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Cloning and the creation of the monster in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein sounds promising, however,
cloning is highly irresponsible to pursue. Dolly the sheep had a successful cloning but it brought many
questions to the scientists. Cloning may have its benefits, but the outcome may vary. Cloning will
impact the world deeply and cause a tension among the humans. Allowing to clone a human being is
referred to as playing God. It is reasonable to decline the cloning of humans due to the fact it is a
threat to human evolution, high failure rates and the possible life issues that may occur. The cloning of
humans have its advantages, but it is a threat to human evolution. It would decrease the immunity of
human beings to fight off diseases (Putatunda

Irony Of Empathy In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Kiano Tran
Professor Gray
English 102
27 September, 2016
Looking beyond Empathy is the ability to understand and vicariously share the feelings and thoughts
of other people. Empathic feelings are fundamental for humans in social and interpersonal life because
they enable human beings to tune their mental states to their social environment as well as to
understand others intentions, actions, and behaviors. In particular, empathy for pain is a source of deep
emotional feelings and a strong trigger of prosocial behavior. In the fictional short Cathedral , written
by Raymond Carver, the author cast significant irony: a narrator who ignorantly disdains blindness
while being oblivious to his own limitations in sight. In parallel, Flight Pattern , ... Show more content

business trips and meetings. He, therefore, doesn t see his wife and child. He tends to over analyzes

scans for little brown guys. William has been a victim of racial profiling. The irony of the story is
when he searches for these little brown guys , is William himself was a little brown guy, so the other
travelers were always sniffing around him, but he smelled only of Dove soap, Mennen deodorant, and

Neighborhood Watch:
Let s Partner with Law Enforcement: Let s Be Vigilant: Let s Legislate!
By: Shelly Ray
Date: 07/15/13
Over the weekend, the nation watched and listened as the Not Guilty verdict was read for second
degree murder and manslaughter charges in the case of George Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman is the 29
year old neighborhood watchman man and man who fired the fatal shot of 17 year old Trayvon Martin
on the evening of February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida. The subject I will bring before you is that of
a personal interest, for I live in a gated community that has a neighborhood watch program.
This case has captured the nation s attention and has shined a spotlight in many areas of interest

Last and certainly not least I respect and abide by the laws of our country. If each municipal local
governing agency would pass legislation to ensure the safety of neighborhoods, communities,
civilians, law enforcement and government officials under due proper guidelines, all will have
knowledge of what can and can not be done as a neighborhood watch person. The National Institute of
Justice prepared a report to the United States Congress entitled Preventing Crime: What Works; What
Doesn t; What s Promising. The primary conclusion of the report found that in part enacting programs
in different local communities sometimes work, sometimes don t work in curving crime and in
monitoring the effectiveness of community organizations and neighborhood watch programs. The
report dug into the monies spent for federally to be used in local communities. In 1996, $1.4 billion
was used in funding of local police by the Office for Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS),
and $1.8 billion in local crime prevention assistance funding of a wide range of institutions by the
Office for Justice Programs (OJP). Although funding is still being received and legislation being
enacted, it is primarily up to local communities to pass legislation that is in the best interest of all of
the citizens in each respective community.
In Conclusion, our society has a fundamental principal that says I am my brother s keeper. The

Notes On Bond And Bond Rating
Introduction to bond and bond ratings A bond is a form of debt in which you loan your money to a
company, city, or government and in return they agree to return the money to you after an agreed upon
time, with payments of interest to you while they hold your money (Wall Street Journal, 2015). There
are many different kinds of bonds, and they are sold to fund various different projects. Bonds are seen
as a safe investment and also offer investors a steady stream of income from the interest payments.
Although this may be the case for some bonds, it isn t the case for all bonds that are issued. This is
where the bond ratings system comes into play. Bond rating is a system used to provide investors with
an idea of the risk they are taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ratings for bonds are provided by three major rating agencies: Standard Poor s Corporation,
Moody s Investors Services and Fitch s Investor Services (Brigham Houston). Each use quantitative
and qualitative information to ensure that an accurate rating has been provided to investors.
Factors that determine bond ratings When a rating agency examines a firm s bonds, they must look at
various different factors that will help to paint a much larger picture of the financial health of the firm.
An agency will use quantitative factors to look at the history of the firm and while using qualitative
factors to look to the future stability of a firm and its ability to follow through on its contractual
obligations to bond holders (Brigham Houston, 2013) The quantitative factors an analyst would use
include ratios that evaluate the company s ability to payout what s owed to bondholders. These ratios
include the total debt to total capital ratio, which verifies the amount of capital provided by debt
holders, and the times interest earned ratio, which evaluates a company s ability to pay out interest
owed to bondholders (Brigham Houston, 2013). This information can then be used to help create
forecasted financial statements, which shed light on the ability to not only meet current liabilities, but
to continue to meet them for years to come. The qualitative factors are based on the quality of the
firm, the product, and the leadership. This can include

Message to Young People Summary
With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a
crucified, risen, and soon coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! How soon might the
end come, the end of suffering and sorrow and sin! How soon, in place of a possession here, with its
blight of sin and pain, our children might receive their inheritance where the righteous shall inherit the
land, and dwell therein forever ; where the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, and the voice of
weeping shall be no more heard. Counsels to Teachers, Parents, and Students, p. 555 .

Many youth receive the impression that their early life is not designed for care taking, but to be
frittered away in idle sport, in jesting, in joking, and in foolish indulgences. While engaged in folly
and indulgences of the senses, some think of nothing but the momentary gratification connected with
it. Their desire for amusement, their love for society and for chatting and laughing, increases by
indulgence, and they lose all relish for the sober realities of life, and home duties seem uninteresting.
There is not enough change to meet their minds, and they become restless, peevish, and irritable.
These young men should feel it a duty to make home happy and cheerful. . . . pg. 339

Visual Effects And Its Effects On Modern Films
Visual Effects Pipelines
The film making process in modern films is a lot more complex than it has ever been.
Even the simplest of films require a large amount of crew and equipment, but none of these processes
has advanced the state of cinema as visual effects has. It says a lot that the highest grossing films of all
time are heavily driven by visual effects, one can infer that visual effects are now a major part of
storytelling. The majority of films contain visual effects, even when you don t realize it. Are the actors
driving down the highway? Is there a window in the scene?
Does the actor look unusually younger than usual? Most of these are invisible effects, often shot in
front of a green screen. Within each process that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artists could know what elements were to be used in finalizing each shot, a feat that sometimes
required chasing down information. Now the information would be organized, and anything that was
approved up the pipeline would be made available. They provided training on the new system, and it
worked under a perfect training scenario. Once it was put into practice, it was a different matter.
Conflict arises
The moment we tried putting this into practice, artists soon began to realize that the
VISUAL EFFECTS PIPELINES 4 system, although followed as explained, wasn t working as
expected. There was a plethora of information missing from the menus, wrong versions of elements
published, and a lot of confused and irritated artists. The system, unfortunately, went back to the
drawing board, leaving people to chase down information the old fashioned way.
Root cause hunting
We ll be implementing a Root Cause Analysis to the problem, intending to find the reason why the
system failed, and what steps can be used to ensure that the new implementation does not go the same
way. Unfortunately, I was not involved in decision making process, and therefore can only analyse the
situation from an artist s view. We ll start off by gathering the data from interactions with other artists.
This was all feedback given amongst the artists themselves, before having it relayed to the
development team.

Children With An Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Today in the educational system, I think one of the most looked down upon inequalities are students
with an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD. Especially in high school,
living with ADHD is extremely challenging because students have a harder time concentrating during
class, understanding the material given to them, or even taking tests and doing homework unlike other
students. It seems the school system, and even society judges students based on what level they are on.
For example if a student has straight A s in honors classes, that student would get all the praise, while
a student who has average or lower grades in regular classes, that student would be ignored, get
ridiculed or sometimes considered irrelevant. I myself am not officially diagnosed with ADHD, but I
consider myself have a larger amount of inattention, so I have witnessed these types of inequalities in
high school before. In Jonathan Kozol s essay, The Savage Inequalities of Public Education In New
York, Kozal explains how a school principal views the students reality, explaining Sometimes a school
principal...looks into the faces of the children in his school and offers a disarming statement that cuts
through official ambiguity. (261). It hurts to know that there are students who cannot focus properly in
school, and no one can see it physically happen.
The one thing every student does during class is simply concentrating. During a lesson, lecture, lab, or

immensely important, and could be revoked upon recognition that the bar was disorderly . Up until the
year 1967, selling alcohol to homosexuals could result in a bar being deemed disorderly, thus closing
it down. While the state of New York overturned this law, a multitude of other states such as Miami
maintained them, hence prohibiting the liquor licenses to, knowingly sell to, serve to or allow
consumption of alcoholic beverages by a homosexual person, lesbian or pervert ... or to knowingly

countless individuals found inside. Those arrested thought to be gay had their names published in

This is a conflict she has with herself while she is becoming an adult. Briony invites readers into her
feelings but later contradicts herself as she hides all her emotions from view. Since she is still a child
she tends to take things for their literal meaning. However, she is ecstatic to become an adult since she
is determined to use feelings in her stories which would help her stories to begin the transformation
from princes and princesses to mature topics. Briony loses her innocence when she discovered that
reality is not like the stories she read when growing up. Her innocence is taken from her when she

different outcomes than a story. Briony loses her innocence mentally as she still holds on to the fact

Essay On Hedge
TWhy to hedge?
A hedge is aimed to offset potential losses on investment of an individual or an organization as it
reduces overal economic exposure of the two previously mentioned entities by guaranteeing favorable
outcome. In other words, a hedge is used to reduce any substantial losses/gains suffered by an
individual or an organization.
Advantages and disadvantages of hedging
Advantages
The main advantage of the currency exposure hedge it significantly lowers the risk of an investment.
As in the case of any investment, if an investor makes an investment in which there are many
independent variables that are out of their control, the investor would lose money if things do not go
as they planned. A hedge is aimed to offset these losses and thereby reduce any unwanted risk.
Hedging the transaction exposure with options also offers total protection against adverse currency

especialy with no major fluctuations on the market, and the opportunity cost if the option is cancelled
for a new, more beneficial purchase. The one and only risk as such associated with an interest rate

Essay on Assessing the View that Religious Language is...
Assessing the View that Religious Language is Meaningless
In recent times one of the most compelling and interesting arguments against God and religion has
come from linguistic philosophy. In very basic terms the argument points out the fact that religion
must necessarily use language in order to express abstract ideas such as God, love and so on, and in
doing so commits a fallacy because as soon as such ideas are put into words they become
meaningless. However, this is a rather large generalisation; the specific arguments go into a lot more
detail and most vary in some way from this basic idea. Before we look at these arguments, though, I
feel it is necessary to emphasise just how important an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethics, aesthetics and most importantly religious statements are all rendered void as they cannot be
depicted, for example Stealing is wrong cannot be mentally depicted in the way that I stole your pencil
can. This idea attracted several philosophers, including Moritz Schlick and Rudolf Carnap, who were
working together in Vienna in the early part of the last century, and who expanded Wittgenstein s
work. Their work involved looking at language to see what type of statements were meaningful or not,
and they based their ideas on similar work in epistemology. There is a very powerful argument in this
branch of philosophy that knowledge can only be gained through empirical experience. The logical
positivists applied this idea to language, and came up with the verification principle. This idea, also
put forward by A. J. Ayer, the main British exponent of logical positivism, is basically that only two
types of statement are meaningful. The first is analytic statements (a priori), which are logical
statements that justify themselves, for example 1 + 1 = 2 or all bachelors are men. This type of
statement is true by definition, and does not

Dear Professor Csikszentmihalyi,
This letter is talking about what I learned from your book, my flow experiences and what are elements
of flow in my opinion. But before that I would like to share a old Chinese fairy tale with you. 1800
years ago in Jin dynasty of China, there was a farmer who s name is Wangzhi. One day he went out to
cut firewood in hills, he saw there are an old man and a child playing the GO (a Chinese game) in
pavilion. So he left his axe on a stump and watched them playing. He was so focus on the game that
he totally forgot the time. After a long time, the child told him that as it is so late you had better go
home. Then Wangzhi pick up his axe and start to go home. He was so surprised that his axe handle
was rotted and mold. When he backed home his neighbor told him he had already went out more than
10 years. Of cause fairy tales are not always true story and also may sound like an exaggeration. But
in this fairy tale we can know that Chinese people realize that people have flow experience hundreds
years ago.
In this semester we have been discussing about Optimal Experience and what is Flow and how to

Thomas Hardy The Ruined Maid
The Ruined Maid Analysis In the poem The Ruined Maid by Thomas Hardy, there are two women
talking in a town. The first women is admiring and praising the second called Amelia. She tells her
about how much she has changed and how she has practically moved from rags to riches. In a constant
back and forth banter between the two Amelia continues to respond with, that is what happens when
one gets ruined hinting to repetition. Apart from using repetition Hardy also extensively uses voice
with the second woman to show just how surprising the changes are. In using repetition and voice
Thomas Hardy slowly gives the readers the theme of not letting money consume one. From what I
could depict from the poem Amelia was being slightly rude to her fellow companion. Amelia would
constantly remind her that she had been ruined, that she obtained all she has by being ruined, she was
to proud of having been ruined constantly shoving it in the other woman s face, and she did not hold
back what she thought whether negative or not. An example can be found in the last two lines in the
poem, The Ruined Maid by Thomas Hardy My dear a raw country girl, such as you be,/ Cannot quite
expect that. You ain t ruined. (23 24) In these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seen. She despicably revises and analyzes Amelia, reminding her of the woman she was once before.

Bilingualism Myths
There are many myths about bilingualism having negative effects. One of those myths are that babies
are hopelessly confused by exposure to two languages. However, studies have proven that learning
more than one language as an infant is actually very beneficial and not difficult to do. According to
Judith F. Kroll, babies develop the ability to discriminate the languages that they listen to and are more
open to learning a new language. A study by Ferran Pons and other colleagues, revealed how bilingual
children show an earlier attentional shift to the mouth. This is due to the fact that bilingual infants rely
more on the perceptual salient of audiovisual speech cues in order to to construct two different
language systems. Furthermore, another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why there should be a program created at the University of California, Riverside. This program
should be available to everyone in the community. Furthermore, the program would consist of
sessions in which the data and studies done on bilingual infants can be presented and broken down.
The way in which the information is presented is very crucial because there are certain things that
make it difficult to explain. The information about the benefits of bilingualism in infants will be
presented by taking the studies conducted and breaking down everything completely, including the
terms and the data. These sessions will be open to whoever wants to inform themselves or has
concerns about exposing their babies to more than one language. In addition, the program will allow
those who have first hand experiences with being bilingual from infancy or who have bilingual infants
to speak about the benefits. However, if the program were to only be accessible by going to UCR then
it would make it difficult for many to find the time to attend. Just as many other programs such as
health programs, go around schools informing parents this program will mobilize itself. By mobilizing
this program we will be able to reach more people. The places that we would target the most would be
elementary schools, daycare centers, and certain clinics that deal with pregnant parents. These would
be very good places to go to and inform parents about bilingual infants because it would still be a
good time for them to do so. This program could also inform them about the other benefits of
bilingualism throughout an individual s life span. Lastly, it would be more beneficial to inform them
about all the other benefits as well because the parents or future parents will be able to see how
exposing their child to more than one language will really benefit them in the long

Leonardo Da Vinci s Lady With Unicorn
In 1934 1936 Raphael restored a female portrait Lady with Unicorn. Leonardo Da Vinci had painted
this piece in the year 1505. Leonardo was a high renaissance painter and this picture is a high
renaissance piece. The time period of when it was created and the idealized figure, clarity, and bright
colors depict the type of renaissance piece. In the portrait a lady with long blonde hair, and blue eyes
is holding a greenish colored unicorn in her lap, which gives the portrait its name. It was an oil
painting that was applied to a wooden canvas. This piece was actually inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci
s Mona Lisa (Young women with Unicorn , n.d.). The subject in the portrait has been identified as
Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The painting was attributed to Raphael when he restored it. Removal of
a heavy repainting revealed the unicorn in this portrait. The unicorn is a representation of purity in the
medieval romance in place of Catherine s wheel. In the painting the five elements of renaissance
perspective are all portrayed.
The Lady with Unicorn shows linear perspective, aerial perspective, diminution of size, and overlap.

Lady s face. The greens that are used in the portrait are used to recede the detail to her face as well.

Friendship In Recitatif Themes
In Recitatif, a short story by Toni Morrison, Twyla and Roberta have their ups and downs. First
meeting in a shelter where they were both dropped off, the two develop a friendship. As they grow
older, the two will occasionally run into each other, sometimes things would go well and other times
they would not. And almost every time they do meet up, there is something mentioned about Maggie.
No matter how upsetting the encounter was with Roberta, Twyla was always able to hold her ground.
This goes to show that Twyla is independent, clever, and stubborn which made her a stronger person.
Living in a shelter, without her mother, Twyla learned how to be independent. For example, despite
what her mother told her about people like Roberta, she made ... Show more content on

Negative Effects Of Working On Teenagers
Work! Work! Work! Work! In today s society, teenagers are seeking jobs to earn money even though
they have school. Sometimes they are forced to get a job because they need to help their parents for
their financial problems. It is very common to teenagers to get a job at a young age. It did not really
change back then about children s working at such a young age when they should be focusing on their
education. Getting a job is everyone s dream because they can earn money and get experiences. Avery
Neumark quote says that, Never too early to start. Anything can happen any time, this quote relates to
teenagers because they need the head start to do something in life. Sometimes the job that they have
pushes teenagers to do their best. Working early has both positive and negative impact to young
adults. However, that is their only way to survive in this world is to get a part time job to at least help
them. Having a job help teenagers to be on time to avoid consequences, expansion of knowledge, and
realize the reality of life. A job that is common to teenagers is working at McDonalds. This is common
because it is an entry level job and a good way to start. Working at McDonalds help teenagers be more
attentive in listening because they need to get the customer s order right before the customer gets mad.
In every job, they need to be on time because if they are on time, they have consequence. As an
example of a consequence, the manager will yell at them. In an article written

Abraham Lincoln Contributions
Throughout history there have been numerous Americans who have contributed to the development of
America. From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises above all the others,
Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of
his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his
presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the
tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the
election of 1860 caused the South to secede from the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that
forever changed America. Although it was one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln
remained loyal to the people and was a strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to
America will never be forgotten. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country,
Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At
a young age, Lincoln lost his mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death,
his father remarried to Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly
become close to. Due to a land dispute in 1817, the Lincolns were forced to move to Perry County,
Indiana. In 1830, they moved again to Macon County, Illinois and then again to Coles County.
However, instead of moving to Coles

My Guitar Research Paper
Many new guitarists aren t sure of what kind of guitar they should buy when they decide to purchase
one. Myself, I spent months and thousands trying to find the right guitar. Five guitars later, I found the
right one and decided that nobody else should have to go through that ordeal. Here is a list of things to
look at when you are trying to decide which guitar is right for you.Tone This is probably the single
most important thing to look at in a guitar. Whether you are playing electric or acoustic, country, rock,
blues, or jazz, you need to have a tone that fits your musical genre. You wouldn t want to play a guitar
that is perfect for country music in a heavy metal band. Which guitars have the right tone for you?

Well get ready to drown in a sea of confusing options like body styles, pickup choices, hardware
options, manufacturer differences and modeling capabilities just to name a few. If you walk into a
decent size music store these days you will be confronted with more options than what the latest
luxury SUV offers. Or you might be thinking about browsing an online music store. Now you have
even more choices than your local store.Fortunately, it is possible to group these choices together in a
list of options that you can bring to your music store salesperson. So, let s get started... STEP ONE:
IDENTIFY YOUR MUSICAL TASTE Do you want to rock? Are you into blues, jazz or country?
Answer this question and you ll greatly narrow down your choices. Certain types of guitars are
typically used for certain styles of music. (In the interest of maintaining a fair and objective position
on brand names and products I will refrain from mentioning specific brand names.) If it s modern or
classic rock you re into, you re going to want to find a solid body guitar. For a thick, rich tone you will
want to select a guitar with humbucking pickups. For a brighter thinner tone choose a guitar with
single coil pickups. If you re interested in those crazy 80 s guitar tricks you might want to find a guitar
with a floating tremelo If not, go ahead and choose a standard bridge or a fixed tailpiece. If you prefer
a little country twang, you re probably going

The Dark Room Of The Room
The Dark Room
The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers
progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through these
actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different
perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground.
The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks on
the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a
swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the contact
of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the women also bumps
into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with the wall. The noise is
loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The black chairs are not
noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark. It is not until several
minutes into the play that you notice there are chairs are in the room.
Another instance of contact in the dance is when the women heads to her chair, she stands and takes of
her dress. The dress coming off revealing the bright white skin in contrast with the dark room. The
women stand briefly, looking straight ahead, and proceeds downward in a direct motion. The women
connect herself with the chair and the table

A death rate number is the number of deaths per 100,000 people (Robertson, Lori) Firearm deaths include homicide, suicide, accidents, and legal intervention. • 3. Benefits Of Cloning In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Cloning and the creation of the monster in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein sounds promising, however, cloning is highly irresponsible to pursue. Dolly the sheep had a successful cloning but it brought many questions to the scientists. Cloning may have its benefits, but the outcome may vary. Cloning will impact the world deeply and cause a tension among the humans. Allowing to clone a human being is referred to as playing God. It is reasonable to decline the cloning of humans due to the fact it is a threat to human evolution, high failure rates and the possible life issues that may occur. The cloning of humans have its advantages, but it is a threat to human evolution. It would decrease the immunity of human beings to fight off diseases (Putatunda ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Irony Of Empathy In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Kiano Tran Professor Gray English 102 27 September, 2016 Looking beyond Empathy is the ability to understand and vicariously share the feelings and thoughts of other people. Empathic feelings are fundamental for humans in social and interpersonal life because they enable human beings to tune their mental states to their social environment as well as to understand others intentions, actions, and behaviors. In particular, empathy for pain is a source of deep emotional feelings and a strong trigger of prosocial behavior. In the fictional short Cathedral , written by Raymond Carver, the author cast significant irony: a narrator who ignorantly disdains blindness while being oblivious to his own limitations in sight. By: Shelly Ray Date: 07/15/13 Over the weekend, the nation watched and listened as the Not Guilty verdict was read for second degree murder and manslaughter charges in the case of George Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman is the 29 year old neighborhood watchman man and man who fired the fatal shot of 17 year old Trayvon Martin on the evening of February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida. The subject I will bring before you is that of a personal interest, for I live in a gated community that has a neighborhood watch program. Last and certainly not least I respect and abide by the laws of our country. If each municipal local governing agency would pass legislation to ensure the safety of neighborhoods, communities, civilians, law enforcement and government officials under due proper guidelines, all will have knowledge of what can and can not be done as a neighborhood watch person. The National Institute of Justice prepared a report to the United States Congress entitled Preventing Crime: What Works; What Doesn t; What s Promising. The primary conclusion of the report found that in part enacting programs in different local communities sometimes work, sometimes don t work in curving crime and in monitoring the effectiveness of community organizations and neighborhood watch programs. The report dug into the monies spent for federally to be used in local communities. In 1996, $1.4 billion was used in funding of local police by the Office for Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), and $1.8 billion in local crime prevention assistance funding of a wide range of institutions by the Office for Justice Programs (OJP). Although funding is still being received and legislation being enacted, it is primarily up to local communities to pass legislation that is in the best interest of all of the citizens in each respective community. In Conclusion, our society has a fundamental principal that says I am my brother s keeper. The Neighborhood Watch program ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Notes On Bond And Bond Rating Introduction to bond and bond ratings A bond is a form of debt in which you loan your money to a company, city, or government and in return they agree to return the money to you after an agreed upon time, with payments of interest to you while they hold your money (Wall Street Journal, 2015). There are many different kinds of bonds, and they are sold to fund various different projects. Bonds are seen as a safe investment and also offer investors a steady stream of income from the interest payments. Although this may be the case for some bonds, it isn t the case for all bonds that are issued. This is where the bond ratings system comes into play. Bond rating is a system used to provide investors with an idea of the risk they are taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ratings for bonds are provided by three major rating agencies: Standard Poor s Corporation, Moody s Investors Services and Fitch s Investor Services (Brigham Houston). Each use quantitative and qualitative information to ensure that an accurate rating has been provided to investors. Factors that determine bond ratings When a rating agency examines a firm s bonds, they must look at various different factors that will help to paint a much larger picture of the financial health of the firm. An agency will use quantitative factors to look at the history of the firm and while using qualitative factors to look to the future stability of a firm and its ability to follow through on its contractual obligations to bond holders (Brigham Houston, 2013) The quantitative factors an analyst would use include ratios that evaluate the company s ability to payout what s owed to bondholders. These ratios include the total debt to total capital ratio, which verifies the amount of capital provided by debt holders, and the times interest earned ratio, which evaluates a company s ability to pay out interest owed to bondholders (Brigham Houston, 2013). This information can then be used to help create forecasted financial statements, which shed light on the ability to not only meet current liabilities, but to continue to meet them for years to come. Message to Young People Summary With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! How soon might the end come, the end of suffering and sorrow and sin! How soon, in place of a possession here, with its blight of sin and pain, our children might receive their inheritance where the righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein forever ; where the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard. While engaged in folly and indulgences of the senses, some think of nothing but the momentary gratification connected with it. Their desire for amusement, their love for society and for chatting and laughing, increases by indulgence, and they lose all relish for the sober realities of life, and home duties seem uninteresting. There is not enough change to meet their minds, and they become restless, peevish, and irritable. These young men should feel it a duty to make home happy and cheerful. . . . pg. 339 How would I ... • 8. Visual Effects And Its Effects On Modern Films Visual Effects Pipelines The film making process in modern films is a lot more complex than it has ever been. Even the simplest of films require a large amount of crew and equipment, but none of these processes has advanced the state of cinema as visual effects has. It says a lot that the highest grossing films of all time are heavily driven by visual effects, one can infer that visual effects are now a major part of storytelling. The majority of films contain visual effects, even when you don t realize it. Are the actors driving down the highway? Is there a window in the scene? Does the actor look unusually younger than usual? Most of these are invisible effects, often shot in front of a green screen. Within each process that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the information would be organized, and anything that was approved up the pipeline would be made available. They provided training on the new system, and it worked under a perfect training scenario. Once it was put into practice, it was a different matter. Conflict arises The moment we tried putting this into practice, artists soon began to realize that the VISUAL EFFECTS PIPELINES 4 system, although followed as explained, wasn t working as expected. There was a plethora of information missing from the menus, wrong versions of elements published, and a lot of confused and irritated artists. The system, unfortunately, went back to the drawing board, leaving people to chase down information the old fashioned way. Unfortunately, I was not involved in decision making process, and therefore can only analyse the situation from an artist s view. Especially in high school, living with ADHD is extremely challenging because students have a harder time concentrating during class, understanding the material given to them, or even taking tests and doing homework unlike other students. It seems the school system, and even society judges students based on what level they are on. For example if a student has straight A s in honors classes, that student would get all the praise, while a student who has average or lower grades in regular classes, that student would be ignored, get ridiculed or sometimes considered irrelevant. I myself am not officially diagnosed with ADHD, but I consider myself have a larger amount of inattention, so I have witnessed these types of inequalities in high school before. In Jonathan Kozol s essay, The Savage Inequalities of Public Education In New York, Kozal explains how a school principal views the students reality, explaining Sometimes a school principal...looks into the faces of the children in his school and offers a disarming statement that cuts through official ambiguity. Assessing the View that Religious Language is Meaningless In recent times one of the most compelling and interesting arguments against God and religion has come from linguistic philosophy. In very basic terms the argument points out the fact that religion must necessarily use language in order to express abstract ideas such as God, love and so on, and in doing so commits a fallacy because as soon as such ideas are put into words they become meaningless. Their work involved looking at language to see what type of statements were meaningful or not, and they based their ideas on similar work in epistemology. There is a very powerful argument in this branch of philosophy that knowledge can only be gained through empirical experience. The logical positivists applied this idea to language, and came up with the verification principle. This idea, also put forward by A. J. Ayer, the main British exponent of logical positivism, is basically that only two types of statement are meaningful. • 30. Abraham Lincoln Contributions Throughout history there have been numerous Americans who have contributed to the development of America. From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises above all the others, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the election of 1860 caused the South to secede from the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that forever changed America. Although it was one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln remained loyal to the people and was a strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to America will never be forgotten. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At a young age, Lincoln lost his mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death, his father remarried to Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly become close to. Due to a land dispute in 1817, the Lincolns were forced to move to Perry County, Indiana. In 1830, they moved again to Macon County, Illinois and then again to Coles County. However, instead of moving to Coles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Dark Room Of The Room The Dark Room The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through these actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground. The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks on the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the contact of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the women also bumps into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with the wall. The noise is loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The black chairs are not noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark.
