Natchez Analysis
The strategic location of Natchez, on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, ensured that it
would be a pivotal center of trade, commerce, and the interchange of ethnic Native American,
European, and African cultures in the region; it held this position for two centuries after its founding.
In the middle of the nineteenth century, the city attracted wealthy Southern planters as residents, who
built mansions to fit their ambitions . Their plantations were vast tracts of land in the surrounding
lowlands along the riverfronts of Mississippi and Louisiana, where they grew large commodity crops
of cotton and sugarcane using slave labor. Natchez became the principal port from which these crops
were exported, both upriver to Northern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Years of rumors and stories of Delaney were that he was the man who traveled with Scott to Natchez.
Family members found that this duty of slave selection an embarrassment and for years would only
whisper of this disgrace to other family members. His daughter in law who knew him told the story of
Delaney s duties to his great grandchild explaining that this was a black mark on the family. Though
her grandmother told the story of slave selection she admonished his great grandchild to not speak of
this openly as it would be a negative measure of the character of the entire family. One might say that
in polite company Delaney s job of slave selection would not be spoken of and that rule was followed.
Many years later the story of this disgraceful experience of slave selection as told to me came with an
equal admonishment to not reveal my source, but to tell the story without authorship. Poplar Hill
Plantation, the largest of Scott s properties at the height of the Civil War, contained more than 1195
acres. The war tax receipts, filed at the time of probate recorded the acreage of Poplar Hill. The war
tax imposed by the Confederacy applied to all property, that included land, cattle, homes, chattel
(slaves), personal property (watches, clocks, pianos,

The Three Key Elements Of Freud s Tripartite Personality...
Personality is the distinctive and relatively enduring way of thinking, feeling and acting that
characterises a person s responses to life situations. (O Brien 2011:103) The three key elements of
Freud s tripartite personality structure are the id, the ego and the superego. These three elements are
used in almost every decision a person makes on a day to day basis. The structure is mostly compared
to an ice berg with a small bit of the ego being above the water which would be the conscious and the
id and the superego being underneath the water and unconscious. The id and the superego are also
portrayed as the devil and the angel respectably. According to Zhu, (2012) his theory smashes the
rationalistic myth of human are rational animals through the reveal and emphasis of ego.
The first of the structures is the id. The part of the mind in which innate instinctive impulses and
primary processes are manifest: (oxford dictionary) we are born with the id in order to survive, it
develops in utero. It makes everything about itself and it is known as the pleasure principle . Its main
goal is to achieve happiness and content and will do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By simply refusing to believe something, the brain can process what is actually going on and then be
able to comprehend it better. One of the best examples of this is alcoholics denying the fact that they
have a problem. Alcohol has created or worsened the problems of the individual but yet they fail to
comprehend that. As stated by Allan, R, B (1997) One of the baffling characteristics of alcoholism is
that alcoholics (..) with life problems escalating, will deny the relationship between alcohol and their
problems. Another frequent example of denial is when a loved one dies the brain might deny that they
are dead and simply refuse to believe it as it may hurt the individual too

Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic...
Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual aspirin
(acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are used. First,
approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP was used
because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The reaction that takes
place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titration determines the volume of NaOH
solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This makes the calculation of
molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated was 0.09897 M. The final part
of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately
0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of 0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH
that reacted with the aspirin. The reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio
reaction. The calculated mass of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial
amount of aspirin measured (0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is
79.66%. This particular experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization
trials were counted. This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity,
ultimately leading to an inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid.

In 2015, more than five million people participated in snowboarding, making it one of the fastest
growing winter sports. The very best places to snowboard vary depending on the different experience
levels and preferences of those who participate in the sport.
Freeriders tend to favor fresh, white snow, freestylers prefer rail parks where they can practice jumps
and carvers tend to prefer land that is well groomed and marked to increase the speed of their ride. No

Evaluation Of A Separate Dialogues
Introduction
This paper focuses on the evaluation of three separate dialogues. Each dialogue contains two
characters. The first character gives an argument while the second character provides a response. The
second character is then identified as to whether or not their response meets the challenge of
argument. Subsequently, an explanation will be included in order to fully clarify the reasoning that is
given. Furthermore, an analysis of all the characters of each dialogue will be included. Terminology
studied from this semester such as the ARG conditions and various forms of fallacies will be used in
order to support the suggested analysis (Govier 87). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate
knowledge and understanding developed from Critical Thinking I.
Dialogue 1 Jim and Roger
In this dialogue, character two does not meet the challenge of argument. Character two partially denies
the claims and premises made by character one, but only provides personal beliefs as a
counterargument. Character two explains their thoughts on the United States being the one country
capable of pressuring both parties as a mediator and what the most essential quality a mediator must
have. Character one s argument is that mediators should be completely neutral between two parties in
dispute. Character one uses a sub argument explaining the unfairness of the event in which the
mediator is in favor of either side of the party beforehand. Character two provides a partial response

Essay Othello and Iago in William Shakespeare s Play
Othello and Iago in William Shakespeare s Play
Othello, the main character in the play is married to Desdemona. At the start of the play Othello is
seen as evil and bad by all the other characters and the audience. Brobantio (Desdemona s father),
dislikes Othello very much at the start of the play. This is because Othello married Desdemona
without her father s consent and Brobantio thinks Othello has used black magic to win Desdemona s
love. Whereas, this isn t the case, Othello married Desdemona because he loved her and she loved
him. Also, in the time period the play is set, women were never seen as very important people in
society and they were seen as the property of men. Usually their husband ... Show more content on

In other words, Desdemona loved Othello for the life threatening things he s done and Othello loved
Desdemona for pitying them. This remark clears his name for marrying Desdemona. The Duke and
Brobantio become convinced that Othello loves Desdemona enough, to set Othello free, without
facing any serious charges. We also learn, Othello is called on business to Cyprus and he has been
most hotly called for , in the court case. In other words, Othello has been called to Cyprus because he
is a very important soldier. Othello takes Desdemona to Cyprus with him. This shows Othello is a kind
and honest man because he is kind enough to take his wife with him, not to leave her behind like many
men would have.
On the other hand, however, the audience see that Iago is evil and bad, the first time they meet him,
whereas, all the characters see him as honest and good at the start of the play. Roderigo is easily
tricked into thinking Iago is going to help get him and Desdemona together, (even though Desdemona
is already married), if he keeps paying Iago to help. Iago is just conning Roderigo out of money; the
audience can see that Iago is evil and bad here but the character, Roderigo, doesn t.
The audience soon finds out that, Iago hates Othello because Othello gave Michael Cassio the job Iago
has been wanting for ages, (Othello s second man in command). Iago also tells the audience

Mark Whitfield Essay
Mercurial guitarist Mark Whitfield got the jazz world s attention during the 90 s, when the NY Times
considered him The Best Young Guitarist in the Business . Despite speaking a vocabulary of his own,
his style is still influenced by his mentor George Benson, the one who recommended him to the
organist Jack McDuff.
Mark not only has collaborated with jazz legends such as Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown,
Stanley Turrentine, Ray Charles, and Jimmy Smith, but also with recent stars like Sting, Chris Botti,
Diana Krall, and Roy Hargrove.
Incursions on soul jazz, hard bop, and fusion can be easily spotted in Mark s style. However, he doesn
t stick to a particular style, also venturing himself in the rock music territory with sporadic
performances with Dave Matthews Band. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

had the privilege to be joined by jazz monsters like Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, and Jack DeJohnette in

After sharing the stage so many times with his two sons (also Berklee graduates), Mark decided to

What Is Military Coercion and What Factors Determine Its...
Military coercion strategy has long since existed as a means to enforce a desired set of outcomes,
behaviours, or policies. The definition of coercion covers a lot of theoretical ground, including both
compellence and deterrence. The successes and failures of military coercion can be seen through the
mechanisms of, Destruction, Punishment, and Denial that theorists have argued are part of the
methods of coercion. The effectiveness of military coercion may be linked to the credibility, capability
and communication of a threat. These factors that determine what military coercion is are highlighted
through historical examples, including the Cuban Missile Crises, nuclear warfare, counterinsurgency
and the Kosovo air campaign.
A clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, like destruction this process of punishment can be costly as well logistically troubling.
Lastly, denial seeks to change an enemy s will to resist this achieved by reducing their perceived
capability for resistance and reducing the enemy s perceived options to a choice between surrendering
now or later. This can be seen through the strategies of counterinsurgency, denial can be seen as a way
of manipulating the costs of expanding insurgent activity to new locations. Russia currently uses the
idea of denial when considering an approach of isolating centres of any insurgent activity from areas
of non violence, so as to avoid any reprisals of insurgency and convince such groups of an inability to
succeed. Needless to say, denial is inherently linked to destruction as both mechanisms seek to make
the objectives of any enemy unachievable in some sense and essentially focus on attacking the
military resources and infrastructure so as to coerce them into taking an alternative approach or to stop
all intentions.
Dr K Mueller further argues that coercion stems from the three Cs Credibility, Capability and
Communications . These few factors will assist in determining whether military coercion is successful
or has failed. According to Mueller a threat will only carry coercive weight to the degree that the
adversary believes the coercer will actually carry it out if compliance is not forthcoming. Ultimately,

Why Are Women Naturally More Nurturing Than Men
I believe that women are not naturally more nurturing than men. Instead, this idea is a cultural
construct. From the archaeological record, it shows that women were the main contributors to child
care in the past societies. This was shown by ethnographic analogies, symbolic images, written
records, and burials (lecture.) From a biological perspective, women are pregnant for nine months and
during that time they are weak and fragile. This leads for the women to stay back and take care of the
children. It is essential for the women to take care of children, for they are to be an increase into the
population. Because of the high infant mortality in certain societies, it is important to have children
being cared for.

Kolcaba Middle Range Comfort Case Study
Kolcaba middle range comfort theory was presented in the early 1990s, and it included three technical
senses of comfort; relief, ease, and transcendence (Kolcaba, 2003). The nurse needs to identify the
specific discomfort and the support required. After a nurse has identified and provided comfort
interventions, the patient will move through the three technical senses. Kolcaba coined the patient s
comfort needs are met as the relief phase. She describes the next stage as ease and is reach once the
patient is content. Lastly, she noted in the transcendence that the patient would be able to rise above
the discomfort, leading to positive patient outcomes. Kolcaba stated holistic comfort is achieved
through a context of four human experiences: physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and
environment. She developed the taxonomic structure of comfort that incorporates all aspects of
comfort theory (Kolcaba, 2003). The taxonomic structure is a grid with the three technical senses
listed horizontal and the four human experiences listed vertically (Kolcaba, 2010). The grid can be
used as a tool in the assessment and intervention process by tracking the patient s progress through the
stages of comfort. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Kolcaba s analysis established that the most predominant detractor from comfort was a
patient experiencing pain (Kolcaba, 2003). The nurse implements interventions individualized to

The United States Will Fight Foreign And Domestic Terrorism
Technology has come a long way since the early 90 s. With modern advances, technology is just about
incorporated in everything we do in our day to day lives. Since technology has been incorporated into
our everyday lives, it may raise some concerns about what may be happening in the background. One
of these concerns would be privacy, we all may take it for granted but it is our constitutional rights as
Americans. But this all changed after the September 2001 attack on the twin towers.
The September 2001 attacks on the twin towers will forever change how the United States will fight

Many people within the NSA didn t even know about this program because it was so classified. The
select few that knew about this program, had several different views about how ethical this program
was. But many of them viewed it as an unethical practice and a clear violation of the Constitution of
United States. But some of them viewed it as necessary to national security.
Diana Roark was one of the few that believed that The Program was unconstitutional and clearly
unethical. In the documentary United States of Secrets, Diana Roark was presented with The Program

Canada Was Ceded By New France And Came Under British Rule
Canada was ceded by New France and came under British rule the year 1763 with Treaty of Paris .
Many provinces of Canada then became part of the British Empire and it soon started expanding. At
first, France saw Aboriginal people as allies and relied on them for trade wealth and their own

them began to cease (http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/aboriginal french relations/).

The beginning of these facilities was in New France by the Catholic missionaries to provide care,

When the British North America Act was passed in 1867, the government was required to provide
education to these people to help them integrate with the society. The government tried many ways to
achieve that but there was no success. In the beginning of 20th century, the government and the
churches came together and developed a system residential schools. Most of these schools were in the
four Western provinces and the territories, but there were also significant numbers in northwestern
Ontario and in northern Québec. By 1930, the residential school system had a total of about 80
institutions. Three fifths was operated by the Roman Catholic Church, one quarter by the Anglican

Postwar Essay
Postwar In the 1950 s the number of people living in the suburbs came to actually equal the number of
people living in cities. This wave of people was due mainly to the availability of affordable housing;
which allowed middle class Americans to move to an area previously inhabited only by the wealthy.
The houses and neighborhoods built in mass numbers on assembly lines came to look identical to each
other. As a result of this, a model American life was created. People all around the country began to
follow this model, and before they knew it a race to conform had begun. People no longer strove to be
different, neither by ethnicity nor religion; they strove to be the same. David Farber, the author of The
Age Of Great Dreams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to the 1950 s people of all different cultural backgrounds lived side by side in cities; the drastic
change damaged race relations forever. The gap between men and women also grew in the postwar
era. The men who returned from war were forever changed by the experiences they had there. This, as
David Farber explained, gave them something to differentiate themselves from their wives. The
women, who had held jobs while the men were away, were told to return to the home. This gave the
women something to resent the men for. The 1950 s were a difficult time for men and women due to
the large gap that had grown between them as a result of the war. The baby boom of the postwar era is
a real marvel to society for the simple reason that it has never happened before. Farber states that he is
not sure exactly why the baby boom occurred; however, he implies that there were many factors
leading to the occurrence of the phenomenon. During the 1950 s seventy percent of women were
married by the age of 24, and families were having an average of 3.8 children each. There are no
records of a baby boom after World War I, nor were there any records of a baby boom after any major
European wars. Therefore, the postwar baby boom was due to factors that had nothing to do with the
war directly. It was perhaps that America was in a state of extreme prosperity, people had money,
houses, back yards and appliances. They then felt it was a good time to settle down

Sandalwood Oil to Promote Health and Healing in Your Home
Sandalwood essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of pieces of wood from Sandalwood trees.
Mature trees, 40 to 80 years old, are chosen for this process. The older trees, however, are preferred
because they have more oil with a stronger and more potent aroma.
Sandalwood oil is an antiseptic, anti inflammatory, antiphlogistic, carminative, diuretic, disinfectant,
emollient, antispasmodic, astringent, cicatrisant, expectorant, hypotensive, memory booster, and a
sedative.
Sandalwood has been used throughout the centuries in religious ceremonies and rituals. It has also
been used in medicines, skin and beauty treatments and in modern times, it is used in numerous
industrial products. After all, this oil has many beneficial properties and uses, including:
As an Antiseptic
Sandalwood essential oil is safe for internal and external applications as an antiseptic agent. It helps to
protect internal wounds and ulcers from infection when it is ingested. It protects sores, boils, wounds

Woolworths Case Study
Woolworths Case Analysis
Wandeli Loubser 15301648
BACKGROUND OF WOOLWORTHS
Woolworths began life in what had been the dining room of the old Royal Hotel in Cape Town on a
sunny October morning in 1931 as a clothing store and was founded by Max Sonnenberg.
In 1934 Woolworths opened a second branch in Durban, followed in 1935 by branches in Port
Elizabeth and Johannesburg. Shareholders who bought Woolworths stock in 1936 at 75c a share would
have seen that stock grow to many, many times its original price as the Woolworths brand has become
an entrenched icon in South African retail. Since 1936 the product range had expanded from clothing
and shoes to include food, cosmetics, gift items, accessories, mobile phones, an extensive range of ...

All of these clothing stores cater for more or less the same target market whereas Woolworths and
Edgars have more adolescent ranges. In terms of price they Woolworths would compete with stores
like Foschini and Truworths.
In the food industry Woolworths focus on having quality food everyday and all the time. They are
known for their fresh produce and pride themselves on their cold chain concept where food is always
stored between 5 and 0 degrees Celsius. They typically compete against supermarkets such as
Shoprite, Spar and Pick n Pay obviously has a wider variety of groceries.
Woolworths also has a coffee shop in certain store outlets where they use products from their food
market to prepare the meals. They would obviously compete against nearby restaurants in the
shopping centre and in the nearby area.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE DIFFERENT WOOLWORTHS STORES
I frequently visit the Woolworths branches located in Paarl, Tygervalley and Eikestad Mall. All of
them contains a food market, but only Paarl mall contains a coffee shop.
All though the layout of the stores are pretty much the same, female wear on the left, male on the right
shoes and accessories in the middle and the food store and coffee shop is located at the back, they all
differ in the unique way the store owner wants them to.
The variety and assortment in merchandise also differs. Seeing that Tygervalley s branch is the biggest

Examples Of Lack Of Self Confidence In The Wizard Of Oz
In today s society, there are about 6.375 billion people affected by a lack of self confidence, in other
terms, this is about 85% of the world s current population of 7.5 billion people. Why does the majority
of the world s population suffer from a lack of self confidence? There is a simple answer to this
question, and it can be found in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Baum
through the use of 3 characters portrays the lack of self confidence. Baum uses the Scarecrow, the Tin
Woodman and the Lion prove that a person/character s own strengths go un noticed by him/her. The
way to reach these strengths would be through self confidence. The 85% of the world s population
with a lack of self confidence do not realize that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It in fact was a possibility, allowing the rest of the travelers to climb the lion s back and make it across
the ditch. Once across this ditch the group encountered another ditch to cross, which was so large,
even the lion was unable to leap across. Realizing this the Scarecrow told the Tin Woodman to cut
down a large tree from the close by forest and asked the Lion to push it down towards the ditch once it
was cut. This created a bridge for not only the travelers to cross but also the dreaded Kalidahs. The
Kalidahs are dreaded beats that were ferocious and could kill the lion if they wanted to and turning
back the Lion realizes that there are two Kalidahs following them across the bridge. Once everyone
gets across the bridge the Scarecrow instructs the Tin Woodman to cut down the part of the tree that
lay on their side of the bridge. Doing this had caused the tree to fall, taking both the Kalidahs down
into the ditch. Shortly after the Scarecrow had helped the group cross two ditches and saved everyone
s life, was he faced with another small problem, how to get across the river. The Scarecrow made easy
work of this and asked the Tin Woodman to cut down trees and make rafts for them. The Scarecrow
had proved everything he had said about himself wrong through these actions. All these situations

Research Proposal On The Veil
Research Proposal Muslims and the Veil
Coming the 19th century, a new type of clothing made its way to the Muslim society, this being the
veil. A veil is a piece of more or less transparent material, used to conceal a woman s face and head (
Veil ). After the acceptance of the veil into society, the initial use was to protect women and their
modesty and virtue. However, as time went on, the veil became more of a tool for Muslims to express
their cultural identity. There are multiple different types of veils, or hijabs, including the Khimar,
Chador, Niqāb, and the Burqa ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). Even though they
are different, they all serve the same purpose of protecting women and their modesty and virtue.
The incorporation of the veil in Muslim society dates back to the 19th century, but has originally
started in the middle east ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). As a matter of fact, as
religion and culture spread, so did the veil, eventually making its way to Southeast Asia. The veil
started as a way of protection for women, to protect their modesty and virtue. Surprisingly, this belief
goes back to the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, which said that women should be modest.
Additionally, this was a universal message, that women should follow these standards ( Muhammad
and Women. ).
The meaning of the veil has changed over time with politics, history, and its significance has never
been static or monolithic (E. Sanders). Like

Ezekiel s Vision Of Dry Bones
The vision of dry bones
And the prophet Ezekiel told of vision he received from the Lord in which the Lord put sinews of
muscle and flesh back onto dry human bones that were left in a valley, breathed life into them, and the
life became new. Ezekiel prophesized that this meant to have hope in the Lord, that God said I will put
a new heart and spirit in you. This day is a new beginning to renew your sense of purpose.
The vision of a temple
Ezekiel had a vision from the Lord Jehovah of a future temple; Ezekiel said: I saw cherub angels
sitting on thrones in heaven with the Lord, and there were gates to the Temple, each ten cubits in

Now Daniel, a Jew, would get down on his knees three times a day to worship the God of Israel, the
Ancient of Days. The angel Gabriel gave him understandings to his prayers. Daniel ate only
vegetables and fruits. Some men saw him praying when the windows to his chambers were opened; it
was forbidden to pray to anyone except the king.
The men brought Daniel before the king and Daniel was thrown into a den of lions, but the lions did
not hurt him. Then the king commanded that Daniel should be taken up out of the den of lions. Then
King Darius wrote all the nations that dwelt on earth to decree that they should fear the God of Daniel,
for He is the living God, enduring and steadfast forever, and His Realm shall never be destroyed and
His Dominion should be to the end of the world. Daniel had a night vision, and behold, on the clouds

Creon Tragic Hero In Antigone
Aristotle s pieces are either comedies or tragedies. The majority of tragedies have the main role of a
tragic hero. Tragic heroes rise to power, experiences a major catastrophe, doom themselves with
hamartia, have the occurrence of peripeteia, builds up events leading to their downfall, must be
enlightened, and the audience needs catharsis . In Antigone, Creon fits the tragic hero mold the best.
Creon s noble blood allows for the the appointment of kingship. Sharing ties with Jocasta, the late
Queen of Thebes, Creon rises to power once the two sons of Oedipus, an exiled king of Thebes, die.
The two sons of Oedipus and Jocasta take turns ruling Thebes, yet Etocles, the younger brother, exiles
his brother, Polynices. This unruly act brought upon war and both brother died killing one another. As
there is no king to rule Thebes the next male with royal blood must take the position of ruler. With no

death in the exodus. Antigone s suicide causes a domino effect. Haimon, Creon s son, is drove mad

Digital Immigrants In The 21st Century
Born in the digital age and surrounded by digital products, students today are referred as digital
natives who have gained specific technical skills and are fundamentally different from the older
generations in the way of thinking and processing information, thus they require a new educational
approach (Prensky, 2001). To engage with the younger generations, Prensky (2001) suggests that
educators, who are considered as digital immigrants, should change their teaching methodology and
content. As the development of information technology in the 21st century has significantly increased
the speed and greatly ameliorates the way students communicate and gather information, digital
technologies such as computers and digital games are now suggested

Farmer E raises only 20 head of cattle making them the smallest farmer interviewed and the least
amount of time raising beef at only eight years. The cattle are also mostly grass fed like the other
farmers but they receive less than market price because of the breed of cattle raised not being in high

they had previously considered it but saw other locals and fail. This dissuaded the farmer from trying

Farmer E once seeing the failure and decided to stay with calf cow farming to not have to add new

The Advantages And Effects Of Pips In Nigeria
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The state of insecurity in
Nigeria is becoming worrisome considering the high rate at which innocent people fall victim of
criminals. News of crimes including armed robbery, terrorism and bombings, kidnapping are on the
increasing by the day. Not a week passes without occurrence of such incidences on the streets. Now,
even in broad day light, crimes are committed, murder is perpetrated without resolution. Even the
police seems helpless. Considering the foregoing, there is a need for parents and care givers to
constantly monitor the whereabouts of their children or clients. People should also track their mobility
pattern and history. Several technologies are available for the purpose of localizing a person. A GPS is
locator/receiver available on most smart phones and can be used to roughly locate a user. However, it
comes with its drawback. The GPS is unavailability indoors. Its usage is limited inside buildings and
places unreachable by satellite signal. In order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
GPS is a popular choice for modern mobile positioning, mainly due to it s high level of accuracy. GPS
is normally accurate within 1 10 meters, although one of the challenges of using GPS as a mobile
tracking tool is that there must be a clear line of sight between the device (Android) and the satellite,
and that performance deteriorates in thickly populated urban areas. While at first this disadvantage
may not seem a problem, if a direct line of sight between a satellite and the Android is interrupted
design choices must be made to cope with this. To combat the aforementioned limitation of GPS,
Assisted GPS is often used, which an aggregation of standard GPS technology and Cell ID is tracking.

walks down the stairs of the stage. She is horrified by the sight of the man s bare, grotesque feet and
ankles. He has big ankle cuffs and a huge chain dragging behind him. Kira is so surprised that she
thinks for a minute she could have imagined it, but as she sees the fresh trail of blood the singer leaves
behind as he walks inside, she knows she hasn t. When she realizes suddenly and with clarity what it

Kira also starts to question her freedom when she and Thomas go downstairs to visit the little girl Jo.

Social Changes in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay
Social Changes in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe In the book Things Fall Apart, by Chinua
Achebe, we are able to read about the social changes the white missionaries had on an African tribe.
Mr. Achebe describes the way of life before the missionaries arrived and then records some of the
changes, which occurred due to the changed belief system introduced by these missionaries. Soon
after the missionaries began to teach the tribal people about the Christian faith, their tribal customs
began to be questioned. This caused a sense of unrest in the village. The missionaries were trying to
bring with them new ways of life, and mostly better ways of life. Mr.Achebe tries to show us that the

pregnancies and child births. But each time she had borne twins they had been immediately thrown
away. Her husband and his family were already becoming highly critical of such a woman and were
not unduly perturbed when they found out she had fled to join the Christians. It was a good riddance
(pg.151). This shows us how Mr. Achebe understood what was happening and wasn?t surprised when
the women fled to the Christians. We can also see his knowledge of this belief transformation
happening in his village when he writes, ?and were not unduly perturbed when they found out she had
fled to join the Christians . This tells us that he didn t really care about the people who left the tribe.
He understood why they left but as he said, ?it was a good riddance . From our point of view we can
understand why the people who were being hurt by the tribes belief system fled from the tribe in
search of a better life. They really had no choice if they didn?t want to live in fear and superstition.
There are many examples of people getting hurt in the Ibo tribe, like when Ikemefuna, the young boy,
was sacrificed after a women from the Ibo tribe was murdered. Mr. Achebe records the incident, ?As

Mink Stereotypes
Mink (Neovison vison) Introduction Mink (Neovison vison previously Mustela vison)(Ahola et al.,

very territorial species some some aspects of their way of living in the wild have been replicated for

February/March, then pregnant females are moved into whelping pens just before giving birth in
April/May (Meagher et al., 2014). After birth the juveniles live with their mothers for approximately
two months before being weaned (Meagher et al., 2014) then after weaning the juvenile mink are kept

mink are selected to be used as breeding stock and are housed individually while the rest are killed for
their pelts (Meagher et al., 2014). Another form of housing that is becoming increasingly more
common for juvenile mink is group housing as it decreases the cost of housing the mink by increasing
the stocking density (Alumu et al., 2014) and group housed juveniles may be less stressed than pair

A Definition Of Justice By Aristotle And The Star Spangled...
American society has kept white rich men in the nation superior, while keeping Black people and
other minorities such as women in the lower realms of the society. When the Declaration of
Independence, Constitution of the United States, and The Star Spangled Banner were written they
were not meant to include black people (African descendants). At that time black people were
considered to be a percent of a person, actually chattel, property to white slave owners. In addition,
women were not considered to have the same rights leaving them in an unequal state to their
husbands, fathers, and brothers. The American society has gained their independence by creating
justice for themselves while producing inequalities for others; some affected by justice were people
with different ideas than government, slaves, women and free African Americans.
Aristotle s A Definition of Justice describes the differences of the state with an oligarchy and
democracy as government. In both systems of government, Aristotle states men have a misconception
of justice. Justice is thought by them to be, and is, equality, not, however, for all, but only for equals.
And inequality is thought to be, and is, justice; neither is this for all, but only for inequals. (Aristotle)
Examples to confirm Aristotle s definition are the position that blacks, slaves and women held in past
oligarchy and democracy states. In Aristotle s time (300 s B.C.) until the late 1800 s slavery was a
customary practice,

The store which is timber framed rather than steel costs 30% more to build than others stores, however
this does not bother Tesco as they know that this will be cost efficient as huge savings will be made on
electricity and water bills. This will be done by using rain water to flush toilets and to wash the cars in
the car wash while the refrigerators will have doors to save energy while also getting rid of harmful
HFC refrigerant gases.
On the Tesco website they claim that their aim is to become a zero carbon business by 2050. Another
sign that they are making forward footsteps to do this was in 2010 when they installed over 500
PowerPerfector units at a cost of about 25m. Each unit will help a store save between 5 and 8% of its
total energy usage which should equate to around 12m a year.

How Lack Of Funding Effects Gifted Students In Ohio
This year is a landmark year for Gifted Education in Ohio; for the last few years the number of gifted
children in Ohio has been growing steadily. This year for the first time the percentage of children in
Ohio that were identified as Gifted and Talented finally equaled the percentage of children who were
served in Special Education Classrooms. There is only one small problem with this statement. The
percentage is equal only if you count the students who are identified as being Talented and Gifted, not
served. There are currently only 11% of all Talented and Gifted students being served in the State of
Ohio.

Ohio now requires school district to test students to see how gifted they are, and to notify parents that
there students are talented and gifted, but does not require that school districts do anything to enhance
or accelerate that child s education. The state would never consider doing this to a child in special
education, but it is well accepted in gifted education.
The Ohio Department of Education beliefs that gifted children can make it on their own and do not
need special services. This is not true, high percentages of students become underachieves and never
attend college. Many are discipline problems, eventually dropout, and many commit suicide. Many
gifted students who stand out in classrooms, are often used as a tutor for the other students. This only
further excludes them from learning and makes them stand out to ridicule.
The No Child Left Behind law is commonly referred to as the No Child Pushed Forward law in the
gifted community. This is due to the fact the classrooms are required to assure that every child meets
basic requirements, however once gifted children meet these requirements they are required to wait
and practice a few more times while every catches up. This law has helped many slow learning
students, but it has impeded many gifted students.

Relatable Secondary Data
2.0 SECONDARY DATA
According to (Wilson, 2012), Secondary data is information that has been previously collected for a
purpose other than the current research project. Secondary data are best remembered as second hand ,
because such data are old primary data. Good researchers start with secondary data before designing
primary research studies (Bradley, 2014, p.70). The three main types of secondary data are
Documentary, Survey based and Multi source secondary data. An example of Documentary secondary
data would be a written report such as an email. Survey based secondary data is usually information
that is collected through a questionnaire and Multi source secondary data is information gathered from
multiple sources such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opinions leaders can have first hand experience of the attraction and therefore will have the potential
to positively influence future consumers of the attraction. A positive of utilizing a report is that it
contains applied research, unlike an academic paper that would contain theories. As a result, this is
more cost effective as it provides data that has already been researched at a low cost. Secondary data
may solve the problem without the need for any primary research: time and money is thereby saved
(CIM, 2017) Although secondary data is usually cheap to access, it would be beneficial for the
business to ensure that it is economical enough to use. This risk can be overcome by York Dungeons
by carrying out a cost benefit analysis which is a technique that would allow the technique to be
assessed on if it would be beneficial and economical for their business.
A possible weakness of a report would be that it could include no real concepts and models as they
focus more on the actual findings. It may be that the report is not relevant in relation to the marketing
of a certain business. The golden rule when using secondary data is only use meaningful data. External
information should be consulted in order of ease and speed of access (Hague, 2004). This supports
that a business such as York Dungeons would need to be cautious when using secondary data, that it is
adequate enough to use

Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Essay
An Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Death. A strong topic, frequently but solemnly discussed. However, when I read Edgar Allan Poe s
The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding death.
While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in
portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would
never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep into a psychological
madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came
to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved
one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through abstract language , tone,
and allusion.
The opening lines of The Raven identify the speaker as someone who feels tired and weak but is still
awake in the middle of a gloomy night. He passes the time by reading a strange book of ancient
knowledge. The first line of the poem contains alliteration of w in while, weak, and weary to produce

  • 2. Natchez Analysis The strategic location of Natchez, on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, ensured that it would be a pivotal center of trade, commerce, and the interchange of ethnic Native American, European, and African cultures in the region; it held this position for two centuries after its founding. In the middle of the nineteenth century, the city attracted wealthy Southern planters as residents, who built mansions to fit their ambitions . Their plantations were vast tracts of land in the surrounding lowlands along the riverfronts of Mississippi and Louisiana, where they grew large commodity crops of cotton and sugarcane using slave labor. Natchez became the principal port from which these crops were exported, both upriver to Northern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Years of rumors and stories of Delaney were that he was the man who traveled with Scott to Natchez. Family members found that this duty of slave selection an embarrassment and for years would only whisper of this disgrace to other family members. His daughter in law who knew him told the story of Delaney s duties to his great grandchild explaining that this was a black mark on the family. Though her grandmother told the story of slave selection she admonished his great grandchild to not speak of this openly as it would be a negative measure of the character of the entire family. One might say that in polite company Delaney s job of slave selection would not be spoken of and that rule was followed. Many years later the story of this disgraceful experience of slave selection as told to me came with an equal admonishment to not reveal my source, but to tell the story without authorship. Poplar Hill Plantation, the largest of Scott s properties at the height of the Civil War, contained more than 1195 acres. The war tax receipts, filed at the time of probate recorded the acreage of Poplar Hill. The war tax imposed by the Confederacy applied to all property, that included land, cattle, homes, chattel (slaves), personal property (watches, clocks, pianos, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Three Key Elements Of Freud s Tripartite Personality... Personality is the distinctive and relatively enduring way of thinking, feeling and acting that characterises a person s responses to life situations. (O Brien 2011:103) The three key elements of Freud s tripartite personality structure are the id, the ego and the superego. These three elements are used in almost every decision a person makes on a day to day basis. The structure is mostly compared to an ice berg with a small bit of the ego being above the water which would be the conscious and the id and the superego being underneath the water and unconscious. The id and the superego are also portrayed as the devil and the angel respectably. According to Zhu, (2012) his theory smashes the rationalistic myth of human are rational animals through the reveal and emphasis of ego. The first of the structures is the id. The part of the mind in which innate instinctive impulses and primary processes are manifest: (oxford dictionary) we are born with the id in order to survive, it develops in utero. It makes everything about itself and it is known as the pleasure principle . Its main goal is to achieve happiness and content and will do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By simply refusing to believe something, the brain can process what is actually going on and then be able to comprehend it better. One of the best examples of this is alcoholics denying the fact that they have a problem. Alcohol has created or worsened the problems of the individual but yet they fail to comprehend that. As stated by Allan, R, B (1997) One of the baffling characteristics of alcoholism is that alcoholics (..) with life problems escalating, will deny the relationship between alcohol and their problems. Another frequent example of denial is when a loved one dies the brain might deny that they are dead and simply refuse to believe it as it may hurt the individual too ... • 4. Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic... Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are used. First, approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP was used because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The reaction that takes place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titration determines the volume of NaOH solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This makes the calculation of molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated was 0.09897 M. The final part of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately 0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of 0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH that reacted with the aspirin. The reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The calculated mass of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial amount of aspirin measured (0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is 79.66%. This particular experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization trials were counted. This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity, ultimately leading to an inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid. Introduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Evaluation Of A Separate Dialogues Introduction This paper focuses on the evaluation of three separate dialogues. Each dialogue contains two characters. The first character gives an argument while the second character provides a response. The second character is then identified as to whether or not their response meets the challenge of argument. Subsequently, an explanation will be included in order to fully clarify the reasoning that is given. Furthermore, an analysis of all the characters of each dialogue will be included. Terminology studied from this semester such as the ARG conditions and various forms of fallacies will be used in order to support the suggested analysis (Govier 87). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate knowledge and understanding developed from Critical Thinking I. Dialogue 1 Jim and Roger In this dialogue, character two does not meet the challenge of argument. Character two partially denies the claims and premises made by character one, but only provides personal beliefs as a counterargument. Character two explains their thoughts on the United States being the one country capable of pressuring both parties as a mediator and what the most essential quality a mediator must have. Character one s argument is that mediators should be completely neutral between two parties in dispute. Character one uses a sub argument explaining the unfairness of the event in which the mediator is in favor of either side of the party beforehand. Character two provides a partial response and ... At the start of the play Othello is seen as evil and bad by all the other characters and the audience. Brobantio (Desdemona s father), dislikes Othello very much at the start of the play. This is because Othello married Desdemona without her father s consent and Brobantio thinks Othello has used black magic to win Desdemona s love. We also learn, Othello is called on business to Cyprus and he has been most hotly called for , in the court case. In other words, Othello has been called to Cyprus because he is a very important soldier. Othello takes Desdemona to Cyprus with him. This shows Othello is a kind and honest man because he is kind enough to take his wife with him, not to leave her behind like many men would have. Roderigo is easily tricked into thinking Iago is going to help get him and Desdemona together, (even though Desdemona is already married), if he keeps paying Iago to help. Iago is just conning Roderigo out of money; the audience can see that Iago is evil and bad here but the character, Roderigo, doesn t. • 12. What Is Military Coercion and What Factors Determine Its... Military coercion strategy has long since existed as a means to enforce a desired set of outcomes, behaviours, or policies. The definition of coercion covers a lot of theoretical ground, including both compellence and deterrence. The successes and failures of military coercion can be seen through the mechanisms of, Destruction, Punishment, and Denial that theorists have argued are part of the methods of coercion. The effectiveness of military coercion may be linked to the credibility, capability and communication of a threat. These factors that determine what military coercion is are highlighted through historical examples, including the Cuban Missile Crises, nuclear warfare, counterinsurgency and the Kosovo air campaign. A clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, like destruction this process of punishment can be costly as well logistically troubling. Lastly, denial seeks to change an enemy s will to resist this achieved by reducing their perceived capability for resistance and reducing the enemy s perceived options to a choice between surrendering now or later. This can be seen through the strategies of counterinsurgency, denial can be seen as a way of manipulating the costs of expanding insurgent activity to new locations. Russia currently uses the idea of denial when considering an approach of isolating centres of any insurgent activity from areas of non violence, so as to avoid any reprisals of insurgency and convince such groups of an inability to succeed. Needless to say, denial is inherently linked to destruction as both mechanisms seek to make the objectives of any enemy unachievable in some sense and essentially focus on attacking the military resources and infrastructure so as to coerce them into taking an alternative approach or to stop all intentions. Dr K Mueller further argues that coercion stems from the three Cs Credibility, Capability and Communications . These few factors will assist in determining whether military coercion is successful or has failed. According to Mueller a threat will only carry coercive weight to the degree that the adversary believes the coercer will actually carry it out if compliance is not forthcoming. Ultimately, the ... From a biological perspective, women are pregnant for nine months and during that time they are weak and fragile. This leads for the women to stay back and take care of the children. She describes the next stage as ease and is reach once the patient is content. Lastly, she noted in the transcendence that the patient would be able to rise above the discomfort, leading to positive patient outcomes. Kolcaba stated holistic comfort is achieved through a context of four human experiences: physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and environment. She developed the taxonomic structure of comfort that incorporates all aspects of comfort theory (Kolcaba, 2003). The gap between men and women also grew in the postwar era. The men who returned from war were forever changed by the experiences they had there. This, as David Farber explained, gave them something to differentiate themselves from their wives. The women, who had held jobs while the men were away, were told to return to the home. This gave the women something to resent the men for. The 1950 s were a difficult time for men and women due to the large gap that had grown between them as a result of the war. The baby boom of the postwar era is a real marvel to society for the simple reason that it has never happened before. Farber states that he is not sure exactly why the baby boom occurred; however, he implies that there were many factors leading to the occurrence of the phenomenon. There are no records of a baby boom after World War I, nor were there any records of a baby boom after any major European wars. A veil is a piece of more or less transparent material, used to conceal a woman s face and head ( Veil ). After the acceptance of the veil into society, the initial use was to protect women and their modesty and virtue. However, as time went on, the veil became more of a tool for Muslims to express their cultural identity. There are multiple different types of veils, or hijabs, including the Khimar, Chador, Niqāb, and the Burqa ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). Even though they are different, they all serve the same purpose of protecting women and their modesty and virtue. The incorporation of the veil in Muslim society dates back to the 19th century, but has originally started in the middle east ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). As a matter of fact, as religion and culture spread, so did the veil, eventually making its way to Southeast Asia. The veil started as a way of protection for women, to protect their modesty and virtue. Surprisingly, this belief goes back to the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, which said that women should be modest. Additionally, this was a universal message, that women should follow these standards ( Muhammad and Women. ). Digital Immigrants In The 21st Century Born in the digital age and surrounded by digital products, students today are referred as digital natives who have gained specific technical skills and are fundamentally different from the older generations in the way of thinking and processing information, thus they require a new educational approach (Prensky, 2001). To engage with the younger generations, Prensky (2001) suggests that educators, who are considered as digital immigrants, should change their teaching methodology and content. As the development of information technology in the 21st century has significantly increased the speed and greatly ameliorates the way students communicate and gather information, digital technologies such as computers and digital games are now suggested ... The cattle are also mostly grass fed like the other farmers but they receive less than market price because of the breed of cattle raised not being in high demand at market. Farmers usually receive approximately $1.50 per pound but he gets about $1 per pound instead. When asked if they would ever think to process and sell their meat they mentioned they had previously considered it but saw other locals and fail. This dissuaded the farmer from trying to sell his own beef although he has taken beef management classes to do so. The risk was too high for Farmer E once seeing the failure and decided to stay with calf cow farming to not have to add new costs with what they thought would be little return. Farmer F Farmer F was the last calf cow farmer interviewed who raises approximately 110 head of cattle. This farmer expects only about 80 85 cents per pound for cow and $1.20 per calf. • 29. The Advantages And Effects Of Pips In Nigeria CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The state of insecurity in Nigeria is becoming worrisome considering the high rate at which innocent people fall victim of criminals. News of crimes including armed robbery, terrorism and bombings, kidnapping are on the increasing by the day. Not a week passes without occurrence of such incidences on the streets. Now, even in broad day light, crimes are committed, murder is perpetrated without resolution. Even the police seems helpless. Considering the foregoing, there is a need for parents and care givers to constantly monitor the whereabouts of their children or clients. People should also track their mobility pattern and history. Several technologies are available for the purpose of localizing a person. A GPS is locator/receiver available on most smart phones and can be used to roughly locate a user. However, it comes with its drawback. The GPS is unavailability indoors. Its usage is limited inside buildings and places unreachable by satellite signal. In order to ... GPS is normally accurate within 1 10 meters, although one of the challenges of using GPS as a mobile tracking tool is that there must be a clear line of sight between the device (Android) and the satellite, and that performance deteriorates in thickly populated urban areas. While at first this disadvantage may not seem a problem, if a direct line of sight between a satellite and the Android is interrupted design choices must be made to cope with this. To combat the aforementioned limitation of GPS, Assisted GPS is often used, which an aggregation of standard GPS technology and Cell ID is tracking. Social Changes in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay Social Changes in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe In the book Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, we are able to read about the social changes the white missionaries had on an African tribe. Mr. Achebe describes the way of life before the missionaries arrived and then records some of the changes, which occurred due to the changed belief system introduced by these missionaries. Soon after the missionaries began to teach the tribal people about the Christian faith, their tribal customs began to be questioned. This caused a sense of unrest in the village. The missionaries were trying to bring with them new ways of life, and mostly better ways of life. Mr.Achebe tries to show us that the missionaries showed people who were hurt by ... Her husband and his family were already becoming highly critical of such a woman and were not unduly perturbed when they found out she had fled to join the Christians. It was a good riddance (pg.151). This shows us how Mr. Achebe understood what was happening and wasn?t surprised when the women fled to the Christians. We can also see his knowledge of this belief transformation happening in his village when he writes, ?and were not unduly perturbed when they found out she had fled to join the Christians . This tells us that he didn t really care about the people who left the tribe. He understood why they left but as he said, ?it was a good riddance . From our point of view we can understand why the people who were being hurt by the tribes belief system fled from the tribe in search of a better life. They really had no choice if they didn?t want to live in fear and superstition. • 35. A Definition Of Justice By Aristotle And The Star Spangled... American society has kept white rich men in the nation superior, while keeping Black people and other minorities such as women in the lower realms of the society. When the Declaration of Independence, Constitution of the United States, and The Star Spangled Banner were written they were not meant to include black people (African descendants). At that time black people were considered to be a percent of a person, actually chattel, property to white slave owners. In addition, women were not considered to have the same rights leaving them in an unequal state to their husbands, fathers, and brothers. The American society has gained their independence by creating justice for themselves while producing inequalities for others; some affected by justice were people with different ideas than government, slaves, women and free African Americans. Aristotle s A Definition of Justice describes the differences of the state with an oligarchy and democracy as government. In both systems of government, Aristotle states men have a misconception of justice. Justice is thought by them to be, and is, equality, not, however, for all, but only for equals. And inequality is thought to be, and is, justice; neither is this for all, but only for inequals. (Aristotle) Examples to confirm Aristotle s definition are the position that blacks, slaves and women held in past oligarchy and democracy states. The Ohio Department of Education beliefs that gifted children can make it on their own and do not need special services. This is not true, high percentages of students become underachieves and never attend college. Many are discipline problems, eventually dropout, and many commit suicide. Many gifted students who stand out in classrooms, are often used as a tutor for the other students. This only further excludes them from learning and makes them stand out to ridicule. The No Child Left Behind law is commonly referred to as the No Child Pushed Forward law in the gifted community. Secondary data may solve the problem without the need for any primary research: time and money is thereby saved (CIM, 2017) Although secondary data is usually cheap to access, it would be beneficial for the business to ensure that it is economical enough to use. This risk can be overcome by York Dungeons by carrying out a cost benefit analysis which is a technique that would allow the technique to be assessed on if it would be beneficial and economical for their business. • 40. Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Essay An Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Death. A strong topic, frequently but solemnly discussed. However, when I read Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through abstract language , tone, and allusion. The opening lines of The Raven identify the speaker as someone who feels tired and weak but is still awake in the middle of a gloomy night. He passes the time by reading a strange book of ancient knowledge. The first line of the poem contains alliteration of w in while, weak, and weary to produce the effect of unsteadiness. This line also sets the poem s rhythmical pattern and provides the first example of the use of internal rhyme in dreary and weary. The speaker tells of becoming more tired and beginning to doze but being wakened by a sound that he assumes is a quiet knock. Internal rhymes of napping, tapping, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
