2. The Novel Mayflower By Nathaniel Philbrick
In the novel Mayflower, by Nathaniel Philbrick, the author educates us on how the New World
was discovered and created. It all started with a group of roughly 100 men and women who
originated from England known as the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were sick and tired of the lack of
religious freedom and work/economic opportunities. There was no future for the Pilgrims in
England. This was all until the group set sail on the Mayflower in order to find new land. After a
rough journey, they came across a piece of land now known as New England. The Pilgrims settled
here because it was relatively empty. They believed that in New England they would be able to
create a godly city or a place where they wouldn t be criticized for their religious views.... Show

In reality, if it were not for the Native Americans, the Pilgrims would have been wiped out in a
short period of time. The first relationship dealt with economics. In the Pilgrims first winter,
many died from disease and starvation because they had no idea about how bad the winters are
in New England. They didn t understand how to grow crops successfully until the Native
Americans helped them out, resulting in less death from starvation. Since the Pilgrims were in
need of food fast in order to survive, they would have no choice but to steal corn from the group
called the Nausets. The snow made it difficult to find the corn, but eventually they located 10
catches of it. They educated the Pilgrims about some of their practices such as how to build warm
and protected shelters. But in a short period of time this ended up hurting the Native Americans.
There was a native man by the name of Squanto who did not mind helping out the Pilgrims at all.
Squanto showed the Pilgrims everything he knew about building crops, fishing, building shelters
and basically how to survive. Squanto was a very talented eel fisherman and he provided eels to
the Pilgrims so that they would have something to eat. That night the Pilgrims at the eels with
relish, praising them... He also explained to the Pilgrims that if you plant fish in the soil next to
your crops, the soil will get richer and the plants will grow better. Even though the Native

3. The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic...
Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is
one of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons
with the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the
possible mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic
processes as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some
of the factors that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a
high fat and low fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon canceras well.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and
colonic cancer.
Methods:
A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of
183 patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having colonoscopy
/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding
demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period
between endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records.
Results:
Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had
adenomas while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. The mean age was 61.1+/ 11 years and 80
+/ 12.2 years for adenoma group and carcinoma group

4. Difference Between Chipotle And Bread
When I was a kid I did not enjoy eating and was very particular about that foods I consumed. My
mother would always try to trick me into eating by bribing me or telling me that the food would
give me powers. I also did not enjoy going to restaurants because I found it boring and since I was
not looking forward to the foodit was not a pleasant trip. But now I enjoy eatingand going to
restaurants, in fact, I eat more at restaurants than I do at home. Two of my favorite restaurants are
Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated and they have some similarities but also
differences. Two similarities between Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated are food
presentation and line service; two differences are the menu and price. The first similarity between
Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated is the food presentation. Chipotle is known for their
savory burrito, a tortillafilled with your choice of rice, beans, meat and any extra toppings such as
lettuce, cheese, sour cream, all wrapped around in the flour tortilla. After the burrito is wrapped,
they hand it to you wrapped around tin foil to keep it warm and fresh. Bread Zeppelin Salads
Elevated offers the customer the same choices as chipotle of picking the ingredients and after the
ingredients have been chosen, a worker will take all the ingredients and lay them on a cutting
board to chop them into small pieces. After the worker is done chopping, he or she will take a

Strategy The strategy for change implementation was haphazard and not well thought out. A plan
for change did not exist nor did it include any of the recommendations that Spector (2012) discussed
as effective tools for managing organizational change. Specifically, none of the elements of Kurt
Lewin s three stages of change implementation that Spector discussed as unfreezing, moving, and
refreezing organizational norms were directed. Instead, Command Zulu reorganized without fully
explaining the reasons to the customers (e.g. inspected units). The lack of understanding resulted in
negative relationships for at least a year. Leadership never considered associated risk without a plan
for change and what Bruch, Gerber, and Maier (2005) explained as creating a haphazard or
improvised plan and failing to determine whether the organization needs change. Command Zulu
leaders never once conducted dialogue or diagnosis to determine if the organization was ready for
change. Leadership never developed a method of diagnosis that Cummings and Worley (2009)
explained as a necessary part of change implementation through data collection for future
intervention points. Additionally, command Zulu leadership did not implement change in the
correct sequence which Spector (2012) discussed as having the potential of negative results or even
failure associated with change not implemented sequentially. Not having a solid plan resulted in

8. Dramatic Irony in the Crucible
English 10, essay
The Crucible, option 2
In The Crucible , Arthur Miller uses dramatic irony to create anxiety, frustration and to demonstrate
the tension between the people about the lies of witchcraft in Salem.
I. The author creates tension in the story by using Abigail who accuses innocent people of witchery.
1.) Abigail wants Elizabeth to get hanged so she can be back with John again.
2.) Abigail turns herself against Mary Warrenafter she confessed in court.
II. The author creates anxiety in the story by making the court so powerful.

Abigail Williams, seventeen, enters a strikingly beautiful girl, an orphan, with an endless capacity
for dissembling. Here, the reader also knows that she is not always as she appears. The affair of
John Proctor and Abigail is another example of dramatic irony. We know what has happened
between them but the rest of the characters, except for Elizabeth, are still oblivious. Not only
Abigail is lying about this, but also John Proctor for the sake of his reputation in town.
A third instance of dramatic irony is the situation with the needle in the doll. With this, it was
AbigailВґs goal to get Elizabeth Proctor accused of witchcraft. Mary Warren made this doll when
Abigail was sitting next to her. She left the needle inside. Mary gave the doll to Elizabeth as a
gift. Abigail knew the needle was in the doll, so she stabbed herself in the stomach with a
needle. With this she made the people believe Elizabeth used Voodoo on her and therefore used
witchcraft. The audience knows this is not true and that Abigail is a false and lying girl. We
know she does this is because she wants to get rid of Elizabeth. She is in the way of Abigail and
that has still to do with the affair only the Proctors and the audience know about.
When Elizabeth is asked to tell the truth about John Proctor being an adulterer is another part
where dramatic irony is used. She is a very honest woman but for the sake of her husband s good
name she lies and says that

The Farmer s Daughter is 1947 American films of romantic political comedy genres. The story
is about Katrin Katie Holstrom, a Swedish American country girl who moves to the big city of
Capital Hill to attend a nursing school. However, when a painter who had completed a job for his

11. Facial Recognition System
CHAPTER 1 FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A biometrics is, Automated methods of recognizing an individual based on their unique physical or
behavioral characteristics. For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a
task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully.
In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly
processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show
a similar face existing in database else it is unknown.
Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several
practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition
system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the
human face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work
perfectly after a few years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in
order to verify the person. Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of
the face recognition system. Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand,
because we recognize or identify different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition
process used by the human brain for identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now
become essential to have reliable security systems in

City of Ephesus
The city was colonized in the eleventh century B.C. by the Athenians. In subsequent generations it
was conquered by the Persians, the Macedonians, and the Romans. Destroyed by fire in 356
B.C., it was immediately rebuilt because of the pride of its inhabitants and the importance of its
strategic location. Located on the banks of the Cayster, it was both the chief port and capital of
the province of Asia. In New Testament time it was famous as a political, commercial, and
religious center. It boasted a twenty five thousand seat theatre, a race course, and the temple of
Diana, known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
Both the city and its province attracted a large number of the diaspora Jews (Acts 2:9; 6:9;
19:8.10) who were very zealous and prejudiced about racial and religiously differences. These
were Jews who caused the Jerusalem Jew to riot against Paul in the temple (Acts 21:27 32).

The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58).
Where we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to

Xenophon portrayed those two characters to illustrate the idea of leadership. Although, Socrates
and Cyrus were two different characters, they had similar characteristics. Nevertheless, Socrates and
Cyrus philosophies and teachings have affected today s way of thinking and contemporary
philosophy in many ways.
One similarity between Socrates and Cyrus is they were both kings who were presumed to be
making decisions for the good of the people. However, they used their roles in different ways. On
the one hand, Xenophon states, Cyrus was born a king by nature, superior in every way. Through
his skillful leadership and a strong military, Cyrus was able to create an enormous empire that

believed that Pericles will be a better general since everyone is turning to him when they have
problems. Xenophon suggests that if Pericles is elected general, the city will have military
victories. Therefore, instead of keeping his knowledge to himself, Socrates shares it with others
on how to be a great general. Also, Xenophon portraits Socrates as someone who is devoted to
helping people improve their lives in all practical dimensions. As a result, Socrates strives always

Right as we stopped walking my phone started ringing. Confusion fell over me as I looked down to

This upper atmosphere and the magnetic field form a coupled system with the Sun and the
geospace. This coupled system and their interaction with each other is studied under the Sun Earth
Connection program.[4]
The Sun is a hot ball of gas made of hydrogen. Most of its gas is in the fourth state of matter
known as plasma, where the gas heats up to the point where atoms break up into plasma. The
Sun s plasma is so hot that it escapes the Sun s gravitational field. This escape of plasma from the
Sun is also known as Coronal Mass Ejection or CME. The escaped plasma forms the solar wind
which blows out of the Sun and travels across the solar system with a speed of 500 Km/s,
interacting with the planets magnetic field and atmosphere. These interactions result in the change
of the planets, or in our case, the Earth s magnetic field from the dipole magnetic field to a plasma
swept magnetosphere. The interactions also produce current to flow through the Earth s upper
atmosphere and the magnetosphere causing neon light like effect resulting in the formation of
aurora.[5]The Sun s atmosphere also results in other effects such as prominences and solar flare.
The solar flares eject high energy particles and gases which are about 13 million oC. These solar
flares also cause strong space weather changes by producing a stream of highly energetic particles
which impacts Earths magnetosphere.[6] Thus, these solar winds and solar flares are an

17 million people died, 6 million were Jews, throughout Europe in 1933 through 1945. This

research has been published in many journals. Mr Leuz works as a professor of International
Economics at University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has done a lot of research and
published his findings in several journals while acquiring many several grants and honours. Both

There is more flexibility for manipulation of the accounting figures. The authors also points out that
this flexibility for manipulation should not be underestimated citing past loans and goodwill
policies crisis.
The article also finds after discussing the arguments for and against Historical Cost Accounting that
is could not be a good replacement for FVA and HCA has problems more severe than the problems
with FVA.
The article concludes that the debate about FVA is full of arguments that do not hold up to further
scrutiny and need more economic analysis. The authors concludes that in their view, it is better to
design prudential regulation that accepts FVA as a starting point but sets explicit counter cyclical
capital requirements.
The article concludes that trade off between transparency and financial stability as well as the
interactions between accounting and prudential regulations needs further analysis and suggest areas
for further research which includes whether FVA did in fact contribute to the financial crisis
through contagion effects, and the interactions between FVA and other important elements of the
institutional framework.
The articles also suggests the study should be done to find out the what role HCA may have
played for the banking crisis and the role of, off balance sheet vehicles and retained positions

Stories become a great influence on people as they view other people either on television or
through a book as they explain their struggles or experiences. They should not view them as a
negative perspective because of the media. In the article, Slippery Slopes: Media, Disability, and
Adaptive Sport, the author William Peace notes how the media shows disability out as something
to be miraculously and inspirationally overcome with real consequences (Peace 676). When taking
a gander at somebody with an incapacity, people tend to believe that they are not ready to do the
things that individuals with abled bodies can, which is false. While having an incapacity there are

25. Nineteen Eighty-Four And Brazil Similarities
While there are many similarities between George Orwell s novel Nineteen Eighty Four and Terry
Gilliam s film Brazil, there are also a number of large and fundamental contrasts between the two
works of fiction. These contrasts fall into such categories as spirituality, social order, and
government structure to name a few. While the differences may at first seem negligible in their
implications, further investigation shows that the daily lives of the citizens of these two arguably
nightmarish societies would be quite different indeed. In Nineteen Eighty Four, the remnants of the
religions once widely followed by people around the world have either been repurposed to suit the
new order or simply eradicated in their entirety. While buildings... Show more content on

Most obvious is the government in Brazil s lack of any sort of supreme leader figure, figurehead
or otherwise. In Nineteen Eighty Four, the Party revolves around a character created to represent
their ideology: Big Brother. The heads of Brazil s government s departments, then, are not
accountable to any central leader or idea, and as such are often in competition with each other.
This drawback of the rulership by group system is avoided by Nineteen Eighty Four s INGSOC
party by having all members of the Inner Party ultimately accountable to the best interests of Big
Brother, and thus accountable to the best interests of the rest of the Inner Party. By this logic and
by the relative ineffectiveness of the government in Brazil, one could argue that INGSOC s system
results in a more efficient government (albeit one that provides even its highest elites with far less
freedom than Brazil s

Reviewing the consumer purchases history through their individual Kroger reward cards and the
individual customer payment type could verify this hypothesis. If this hypothesis is proven,
Kroger s should adjust its sale items to include more of a variety of cereals. Offering more
cereals that are not sugar filled cereals and are more designed toward older customers give those
consumers that purchases that are influenced by their income, lifestyle and life stage a better
selection to purchase more cereals. Offering more items in the sale items gives Kroger s a better
chance of influencing their customers to make the decision to purchase more items while still
feeling they are getting a good value for their money.
There are questions that need to be answered in order to prove this hypothesis. These questions
are: What is the average income of the customers that shop at Kroger s?; What is the ratio
between the older customers and the younger customers who shop at Kroger s?; What are the
types of sales at other Kroger s?; How satisfied are customers in the selection of cereals and their

Trade in Alexandria: A Story Told on the Water
Serving as the capitol for the Ptolemaic dynasty, Alexandria was and is still located on the
Mediterranean coast of Egypt. It s positioning came from Greek inspiration, built as a central
location of commerce, maritime trade, and international business. Some of the goods shipped in
and out of the port included textiles, cosmetics and ointments, gems, papyrus, Egyptian glass,
grains, and spices. As one of the main trading hubs in the Ancient Mediterranean world, Alexandria

As I stated in my first paper The regular flooding lets agriculture along the Nile thrive. With this
Egypt soon became the main source of grain for Rome with enormous ships regularly criss crossing
the Mediterranean. To help keep up with the demand and increase profits Ptolemy implemented
back home knowledge to his newly acquired territory. This is shown when Saad in Alexandria: The
Site the History, states:
When the Ptolemies had taken over the running of Egypt agriculture had been steadily declining.
Their application of Greek knowledge and science implied relatively sophisticated agricultural
methodology and as a consequence an increase in crops and harvests (122)
Agricultural production was also dependent on the water distribution and irrigation. To help
maximize crop production, men were required to spend a set amount of time cleaning the irrigation
systems of silt. Egypt continued to be the granary of Rome for many centuries. This is proven by
the text in Maritime Archaeology and Ancient Trade in the Mediterranean by Damian Robinson,
saying: Emperor Augustus put the army to work on clearing the silted irrigation systems of Egypt

going to be hard to resist falling into old patterns.
We re here to tell you that it is possible to eliminate these people and locations from your life in a
healthy manner. Call up or e mail your friends and tell them that you care about them, but that you

their life, but it is one that you must take if you want to start over again.
Make sure they understand it is nothing personal and that you would be more than happy to see

Although we take writing so much for granted as to forget that it is a technology, writing is in a way

to be very difficult to write those eighteen words for many reasons. First, it was difficult to write
small enough to fit so many words onto my log because the juice from the berries would run. I
also found that the berries had to be extremely ripe in order to produce the dark red juice, for if
they were not yet ready the juice inside ran clear. Next, I found that without a sharp point it was
difficult to even shape or form the letters themselves, and the rounded edges of the berries were not
strong enough to withstand the pressure that my hand was placing on them.

Today, the Battle of Gettysburg is considered one of the most important battles of the American
Civil War. However, with 23,049 casualties on the Union side and 28,063 on the Confederate side,
it can also be considered one of the bloodiest (Civil War Trust). Such heavy losses naturally rattled
the entire nation and Americans on both sides began to question the war and what it stood for. As
Americans gathered together at the consecration ceremony of the Gettysburg National Cemetery,
the much acclaimed orator and politician Edward Everett delivered what was meant to be the
Gettysburg Address. Yet, today, it is not Edward Everett s Gettysburg Address that the world
remembers, but Abraham Lincolns, who was invited to the ceremony almost as an afterthought.
Lincoln s 272 words helped remake America by giving hope to its citizens at a time when they
were at their lowest.
For Everett, the Battle of Gettysburg was a parallel to the ancient Battle of Marathon and his
moment up on the stage delivering his Address was his Pericles moment. The nineteenth century
was a time of Greek revival for America, a time when America came to be considered the second
Athens. This Greek revival manifested itself in everything from architecture to courses at
universities, but perhaps most importantly, in orations at the time. Everett played a significant role
in this Greek revival as he was not only a Greek scholar but also a proponent of classicism. With
his Gettysburg Address, Everett hoped to

in Washington D.C. on March 3, 1913 faced violent responses that included in the assault of
many women. This was not always the case. For example, a nonviolent mass direction action is
the March on Washington on August of 1963. This march was part of the Civil Rights act
movement. This march led from Washington monumental to the Lincoln Memorial and
consisted of songs, chants and speeches of civil right leaders that fought for jobs and freedom.
Some of the most notable speeches that came out of this march was Martin Luther King Jr. s I

Pablo Picasso s muse of almost ten years, Dora Maar, was depicted many times throughout his

37. Arguments For And Against Code Switching
The ongoing debate for and against Code switching is demonstrated by reviewing the papers of
Vershawn Young and Rebecca Wheeler. Mr. Young voices his harsh disapproval of code
switching in his paper, Should Writers Use They Own English? (Young 111) . This is offset by
Rebecca Wheeler s gently persuasive technical paper explaining her implementation of Code
switching which she titled, Code Switch to Teach Standard English (Wheeler 108) . After re
reading both papers several times, trying to move past the emotion, and return to the point of
having a US Standard English, I remain with my personal definition of the purpose of US Standard
English as a tool to communicate. Before we delve any further, let me share my understandingof
communications. In the communications industry (think Telephone), there is a simple rule, in
order for successful communication, the sender speaks their thoughts, which the telephone converts
into an electronic signal that travels across a transmission medium, to the receiver s telephone
where the signal is converted back into speech for the receiver to hear. If this process fails at any
point, then communications fails. Applying this to written communications, if the sender writes in
French and the receiver only speaks Japanese, then communications fails because the receiver could
not understand what was written. To overcome this a translator of some form must be engaged to
insure that the sender and receiver utilize the same language. Being more
