2. What Is Wrong By Weinz Ickstadt
In his article, Heinz Ickstadt emphasizes an immense influence of globalisation onto the development
of American Studies as an academic discipline. He thinks that this process has inflicted changes not
only on the society itself, but also on all spheres of its activity, including the academic field.
According to Ickstadt, American Studies as one of academic disciplines adjusts itself to the new
conditions by implementing the transnational approach to its field of study (544 45). In his article, the
scholar focuses on the existing uncertainty about the boundaries of this approach. According to
Ickstadt, American Studies have always been in a process of self discovery and self becoming (545).

3. California Drought Analysis
Did you know that in California water is so scarce that farmers are making more money selling water
their supply Than planting food? As we all know California has been experiencing a drought for
several years now, the current drought started in 2011. California is changing a lot of their rules and
regulations to help conserve water during this period of time. Different things that is happening is that
the way people use water has been changed, the statewide water conservation dropping below
eighteen percent in August 2016, and five million out of fifteen million dollars was given to private
well owners and small water systems. California s water reservation is playing a big role in their
current drought situation. California has made rules against water wasting that block, stifle or threaten
homeowners from reducing or eliminating the watering of vegetation or lawns during a declared
drought emergency in violation of existing law. They started a new regulation they go by, they now
have to have monthly water checks for their urban water suppliers. All of this is because if not taken
into action this could affect 6.5 million Californians for a year. ... Show more content on

5. Reflective Models Used by Nurses Essay
Reflective Practice Introduction: Reflection its self is looking into personal thoughts and actions. For
nurses this would mean looking at how they performed a particular task taking into consideration their
interaction with their colleagues and other members of staff, patients and in some cases relatives This
then enables the nurse to assess their actions and thought processes. There are various frameworks of
reflection that one could choose and the examples used for this work is by Gibbs (1988), Johns (2000)
and Benner (1982) Gibbs: Gibbs reflective cycle encourages one to think in order about the different
areas of an experience. It is presented in a number of questions that the reflective practitioner ... Show

prescriptive asking many questions but maybe this idea helps some practioners reflect without missing
anything they perceive as being important. To engage in such a deep level of reflection requires the
personal and daily practice of the nurse to undertake this commitment for ontological development of
one s self. A model of structured reflection (10th version) Johns ( 1995). Benner: Benner is a nursing
theorist who came up with a specific framework. Her Book from which the framework originally

6. The Luck Of Ginger Coffey Essay
In Brian Moore s The Luck of Ginger Coffey, the city of Montreal is depicted as being in a kind of
stasis, its landscape and inhabitants repeatedly described as frozen and stagnant: Four forty five.
Office workers, waiting release as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour, looked at the
darkness beyond their windows and saw edges of frosting begin to mist the panes (Moore 117).
Despite this passage s emphasis on stillness, however, it nevertheless features two references to time.
Throughout Moore s novel, attention is repeatedly paid to specific times or time frames, complicating
the underlying image of Montreal as a city averse to progress. Considering the subjectiveness of the
third person limited narration, it seems best to examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The profession of the contemporary newspaper typist saw a change in corporate culture wherein the
clock became a powerful object, owned only by the foreman and governing the employees. It seems,
however, that Moore s depiction of time is more appropriately a reflection of Ginger s fixation on the
myth of the new world as a land of boundless opportunity. Indeed, the clock does seem to be
independent of the diurnal cycle: As [Coffey] started off, the sun moved west, unadmitted by the pall
clouds which all day had curtained the frozen river and the city islanded within it . . . Four forty five
(117). This image of the sun being blocked from the city by clouds demonstrates the city s apparent
ignorance for the sun s position in the sky, yet the passage continues on, repeatedly referring to the
passing minutes as Coffey makes his way to the Tribune. One thing that time does not seem so
independent from, however, is the lives of the office workers in the financial district, waiting release
as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour (117). At five o clock . . . down came the office
workers, spilling out into the streets (117); at five thirty . . . [another] policeman . . . invited Coffey to
cross [the street] (117). In this passage, the connection between time and nature has been completely
severed and time has become reappropriated as

7. Explosive Black Powder
Most people do not know that we have tunnels underground, or that tunnels inside of rocks for us to
travel through. We use explosives to blast holes into solid areas we need to go through. Explosives
explode because they are made of materials that burn or break down very quickly, producing a lot of
heat and gas. (Wood, 2014). Usually explosives are made with a material called a detonator, with
another layer over it. A detonator is simply used for exploding a device. The detonator makes a quick
chemical reaction in the material that explodes. A chemical reaction is an action that changes the
energy and structure in the content of chemicals. Without a chemical reaction, the explosives would
not explode. There are many chemical reactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

harm s way. The safety zone is between the area where people watch the action that is going on and
the action. The fallout zone is behind the fireworks, to which you should not stand by them because it
is very dangerous. The firework zone is between the safety and fallout zone, it is where all the
fireworks would be set up. The spectator zone is where all the people who want to enjoy sit or stand, it

Africans dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were
nothing earthly now, nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation lying confusedly in greenish

does not realize it is the Heart of Darkness infecting them. The most sickening part about these
deplorable events are that the Europeans who brought the Heart of Darkness are not helping the
natives. They do not see the natives as worthy of saving or even treating. Marlow idolizes a man

10. Two Theoretical Models That Underpin Health Promotion
The aim of the assignment is to outline at least 2 Theoretical Models that underpin health promotion.
The theories chosen in this evaluation are the Health Belief Model and the Social Cognitive Theory.
In order to outline theories which underpin health promotion it is important to first understand what
health promotion is. Heath promotion is the process of enabling control over health and its detriments,
improving health in the long run. It promotes awareness about the issue at hand and provides support
and means of improving health in the long run.
The World Health Organisation (WHO, 2005) describes health promotions as;
The process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond
a focus on individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It specifies the constructs individually, however it doesn t take into consideration the likelihood of
actions. For example, if the perceived seriousness is high and susceptibility is low, it is assumed that
the probability of action will still be high; whereas realistically the likelihood would be lower than
when both of the variables are high. It is assumed that the variables are not moderated by each other. It
also assumes that the variables directly affect health behaviour and we remain resilient by our
behavioural intentions.
The second weakness is that important factors of health behaviour, such as the positive effects of
negative behaviours and social influence are not included in the model, neither are affecting social and
economic factors. In addition to this criticism some behaviours, such as smoking for example; are
based on a force of habit rather than a

United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: Empowering Local Populations to the expense

Introduction
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was adopted in 1994 as a
product of the Rio Conference which took place in 1992. It attempts to combat desertification which is
defined as land degradation in arid, semi arid and dry sub humid areas resulting from various factors
including climatic variations and human activities. (Marc Johnson, 2006, Chapter 1) Land degradation
is a process of reduction or loss of the biological and economic productivity and complexity of

Through its dual focus on environment and development, the Convention is seen as the perfect
approach to sustainable development. Since its creation, objectives have evolved and now consist in
influencing international actors by raising awareness, providing strong policy frameworks in affected
countries, enhancing scientific knowledge about desertification, identifying and addressing capacity
building. Finally, it also aims to mobilize as well as improve financial resources (Secretariat UNCCD,
2013). Stinger and numerous Conference of Parties (COP) reports highlight the concerning lack of
benchmarks and indicators to understand phenomena, monitor convention s impacts and progress as
well as evaluate possible strategies. This is mostly a consequence of the absence of means to conduct
measurements in affected countries. What are the challenges the Convention is facing? So far, has the
UNCCD achieved some its targets?
Identify and describe
The UNCCD has to deal with many challenges arising from the nature of the environmental problem
itself and the structure of the Convention.
There is no international consensus on the definition of desertification, nor the possible solutions to
revert its effect on land and populations. The conception and interpretation of this process is difficult
and therefore hard to implement in national policies. Moreover concrete results are slow to come

12. Compare Contrast on Poems.
Whoso List to Hunt by Sir Thomas Wyatt and Sonnet 67 by Edmund Spenser are sonnets that are very
similar at a first glance, but delving deeper, a difference can be found. Both of these sonnets use
imagery and figures of speech relating to the hunt of an unobtainable woman as well as that central
theme. Through a deeper analysis it is revealed that these two authors have a different interpretation of
this failed hunt. A comparison and contrast of Whoso List to Hunt and Sonnet 67 reveals that they are
very similar through the analysis of their imagery and theme, but a look at the tone, reveals a different
view on the problems faced in by these two speakers. Whoso List to Hunt shows an unobtainable

As he describes these escapades, he says The vain travail hath wearied me so sore (Wyatt, 3). This
reinforces the theme by showing how much long he has been fighting to get her. Later on, the narrator
is once again lamenting his impossible quest: Since in a net I seek to hold the wind (Wyatt, 8). By
giving us this statement, it shows how fruitless the speaker s hopes are. This theme is also prominent
in Spenser s Sonnet 67 . As the narrator describes his love life he says, Seeing the game from him
escaped away (Spenser, 2) showing how unobtainable this woman truly is. Later on the speaker
supports the theme again, by saying So, after long pursuit and vain assay (Spenser, 5). On the speaker
s journey, he has attempted to get his girl, but each time it never works. These two poems are quite
similar as they both have the same theme. Even though they seem to almost be the same poem, there is
one big difference within the poems. The two poems have a very different tone, with Wyatt s being
much more clingy and stubborn, while Spenser s being more contemplative and realistic. In Whoso
List to Hunt the narrator is much clingier: Fainting I follow (Wyatt, 7). Even though this woman will
never take him in, he still pushes on and refuses to let go. Similarly, he supports this by saying, Yet by
no means my wearied mind/Draw from the deer (Wyatt, 5 6). The narrator has obviously been trying

The matrix structure integrates two structures together, often geographical and multi product
structures. For example, a company may have a department for a product A in Europe and for Product
A in Asia. One of the advantages of the Matrix structure is the convenience of experts simplifying the
sharing of knowledge between the goods. Another advantage of the matrix structure is intra team
communication, this allows ease of communication between the different functional product groups
within the same organisation, and similarly there is less pressure on managers, quality monitoring is
easier and skills are interchanged within departments of the same function thus improving efficiency.

15. Exploring Piracy within Systems Essay
Executive Summary:
In this research document, we explore piracy within systems. As informatics students we find that it is
essential to understand all aspects of systems and the role they play in aiding the transfer of illegal,
copywrite, intellectual property of others.
With extensive research into file sharing, we have discovered that that peer to peer file exchange is
one of the most common enabler of the exchange of illegal data. Peer to peer file exchange occur both
physically through the use of USB drives and CD s as well as over the internet, through the use of e
mails, shared files and torrents.
We then took a look at existing piracy threats focusing mainly on torrents and laws implemented to
help discontinue notorious piracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Piracy as a System
Thanks to technological advancements file sharing over the Internet has become a very popular and
easy thing amongst Internet users. Different system protocols, such as BitTorrent enable quick, easy
and secure file sharing of large files. Abuse of these revolutionary systems result in the illegal sharing
of music, books, movies and software.
Problem Statement
Problem Statement:
Torrenting is a useful tool to gain access to large amounts of information. It grants the user an
opportunity to download media files with ease and accuracy. Due to its simplistic user interface, the
general public makes use of this software, which in return causes a problem for media and production
companies. Production companies lose millions of dollars each year due to their copyright information
being distributed between peers. Torrenting is both a problem and an opportunity depending on the
audience. Peers to other peers can consider Torrenting the distribution of information. This is an act of
copyright violation depending on the information being distributed.
Due to the nature of our degree, it is only appropriate to choose a topic that corresponds with our
interests and knowledge. As informatics students the technical aspects of torrenting is very interesting
as we learn to build systems such as these. Torrenting is an innovative and revolutionary technique to
distribute large amounts of information.

17. Why Is Plea Bargaining Effective
The legal definition of plea bargaining is the process where a criminal defendant and prosecutor reach
a mutually satisfactory disposition of a criminal case, subject to court approval.
Plea bargaining is a problem. The criminal law typically authorizes draconian penalties; the three
strikes laws. Also, the judge has the power to present defendants with unconscionable pressures. The
judge offers to drop a three strikes charge if the defendant pleads guilty. The defendant must now
choose between the risk of life in prison if convicted at a trial. Then also, maybe a short term or a
suspended sentence following a guilty plea. The Supreme Court has accepted such pleas as voluntary.
In a plea bargain, the defendant agrees to plead guilty to one or more charges. Which is an often to a

bargains to a judge and prosecutors is that they cut down their crowded calendar. It also reduces
arguments that the parties may have in the future. Also then it will hopefully prevent parties from
having to come back to court.
Looking at an prosecutor s point of view; plea bargains are effective. Plea bargains result in
convictions, and prosecutors are measured by their conviction rate. Most prosecutors would want to
spend a week negotiating a plea for a lesser conviction. Than spend a year to meet a greater
conviction. They can still up their conviction rate, and claim to be tough on crime, while doing it in a
much more efficient way. Any experienced prosecutor knows how much of a gamble a trial is. Plea
agreements are known to be a sure thing.

octane gasoline, as an electrical contact material and quite frequently in flash photography (Rhenium).
While it plays a part in all of these things, none of them rely solely on pure rhenium. It tends to be
compounded with other substances. To gather rhenium, scientists use the method of copper refining to

its pure form. It costs $1,600 to buy 100 grams of the element, or $250 for one troy ounce (#75
Rhenium Re). While one may be thinking, Who would spend that much on an element and what
would they do with it? The truth is that since it is a rare and disappearing substance, many people
actually purchase it as an investment. Purchasing it is open to the public and it sells fast. Rhenium is a
benefit to our society because it is a strong element that is highly resistant to heat and water. It is also
used for electrical contact and is a huge part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

By doing so, the implications become an integral part of the organization s overall scope. It is
necessary for all organizations to integrate ethics into its strategic planning process in order to
represent its core values to internal and external parties in a positive manner; this will assist in
strengthening the organization s image (Jin Drozdenko, 2010). As a result, the majority of
stakeholders will have the assurance that the strategic plan serves their requirements and better
interests.
Corporate Social Responsibility in Organizations
Social responsibility is another integral component of a strategic plan. It is essential to integrate
corporate social responsibility within the daily operations of an organization. By doing so, it helps
ensure that the organization is moving toward the constant development and better interest of the
general public by attempting to reduce any potential negative impacts of its overall operations. As
such, corporate social responsibility is an integral method of gaining a competitive advantage through
the enhancement of its corporate image through the perspective of the stakeholders and general public.
Knowing this, more and more organizations are allocating additional resources in an attempt to
strengthen their commitment to society. This is commonly demonstrated in the reduction of
environmental pollution or assisting in providing financial resources for various social causes

20. Positron Emission Tomography Report
Introduction
Positron emission tomography is used for research and medical diagnosis of soft tissue in humans and
animals. It uses radioactive drug tracers that are swallowed, injected, or inhaled into the body, to
produce radioactive emissions that are then detected with a computer tomographer (Mayo Clinic
2013). This computer tomographer creates an image much like a camera makes an image on film,
when exposed to light (Denniston 2014). The scans are then used to produce three dimensional images
that provide information on a targeted body system. When interpreting the images, diseased areas of
an organ, are identified by dense regions of the radioactive drug tracer. Some of the area s of the body
commonly scanned are blood, bone, brain, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The radioactive isotopes are atoms with the same number of protons and electrons, but a different
number of neutrons and atomic weight, and are described as have an unstable nucleus. The radioactive
isotope produces gamma rays when it undergoes beta plus decay, also know as positron emission,
occurring after the radioactive isotope undergoes change inside the nucleus. This change starts when
an atom s proton is converted into a neutron inside the nucleus resulting in the loss of a positive
charge, and a small amount of mass being lost. This mass is referred to as a positron. Then the
positron after release collides with an electron and annihilation of the particles occur, producing two
gamma rays. These gamma rays are the radioactive emissions that are then detected by the imaging
machine. Isotopes with a short half life are selected for positron emission topography, and generally
take around 18 20 min to decay inside the body. Some of the common isotopes that are used in the
radioactive drug tracers are chromium 51, technetium 99m, thallium 201, xenon 133, barium 313,

Liberty + Justice
Liberty is a condition in which a man s will regarding his own person and property is unopposed by
any other will, according to Paul Rosenberg. This definition is saying that any person should have the
freedom to do anything they want to do, as long as they don t harm or negatively affect another
person. Rosenberg also points out that if you agree to liberty, or rather John Locke s definition of
liberty, and its terms, you must respect and treat everyone as an ally or comrade that has also agreed.
If someone that has agreed is a bad person and you don t like them, you still have to treat them like an
ally, no matter what. If we can t do that, we don t deserve to succeed. (http://bit.ly/2c4SL6N)

Children are introduced to drugs and alcohol at a very young age. Many of them see alcohol and drugs
in their homes, used by their parents on daily bases. Some of these children don t even realize that it is
wrong, not normal , and not accepted in other homes until they are old enough to understand that
situation in their home is a problem and that it is wrong. Minors usually begin using alcohol at around
age 13. Statistics show that by the time they are high school sinners, 81 percent of teens have used

adults realize.

heroin, marijuana, or nicotine. Every addictive substance induces pleasant states or relieves distress.
Continue use of addictive substances induces adaptive changes in the brain that lead to tolerance,

27. Auteur Director Case Study
2. Make the case for either Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata as an auteur director I choose the case of
Hayao Miyazaki as an auteur director for this essay. First, what is an auteur director? The word auteur
comes from french that means author and the auteur theory itself is a lens or way of looking at movies
that put the director as the author of the movie. The Auteur Theory argues that a movie represents the
director s passion and vision; thus, movies that are directed by an auteur director will reeks of their
own signature styles which can be found in repetitive and recognisable patterns, themes, and in some
cases visual (in our case is art) that will give the audience hints as who is the director of the movie. It
is pretty rare to find an auteur director these days because usually to be able to be an auteur director, a
director has to have a full control, from the cast, the visual and the music, of the the movie that they
make. Most producers don t give directors that kind of full control. There s not a lot of auteur directors
that make it big in the movie industry. Think of Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, Christopher

The short stories, A Sunrise on the Veld and At the Pitt Rivers , have nothing in common if you
analyze them on a shallow literature level. A Sunrise on the Veld by Doris Lessing, highlights some of
the reasons why life is so valuable. Lessing hints her readers that this short story is set somewhere in
the desert by, ... the flesh of his soles contracted on the chilled earth, and his legs began to ache with
cold... He slung the shoes over his shoulder... they would be necessary when the ground became too
hot to bear, (Lessing, pg. 1212). Most deserts get heated by the sun by day, but loses the heat at night.
The boy starts hunting, at first, but then is distracted by a wounded buck. Seeing this buck suffer,

boy spends his time in a museum, observing people and writing poems as the time passes. He keeps
track of a couple he sees at the museum. The couple catches his attention because they are not his

In today s society, at risk youths often face challenges when reaching out to adults regarding their
personal situations, especially when it comes to them wanting someone to understand their own
perspectives. Therefore, it is important as a researcher to understand the different procedures to
research, especially when selecting an appropriate method to investigate a problem a community
faces, such as with studying youths. As a result, a researcher must follow the rule of thumb when

In order to understand how this method can be used in this study, then it first must be explained.
According to the text, Making Sense of the Social World, focus groups are considered as, a qualitative
method that involves unstructured group interviews in which the focus group leader actively
encourages discussion among participants on the topics of interest (Chambliss Schutt, 2016, p. 220).
Often times young adults are more open when around others of their own age, this is the main reason I
selected this method because an at risk youth is going to be more comfortable answering questions
and sharing their opinions when around a group that shares similar characteristics or life situations
compared to just a one on one conversation between them and a researcher or amongst strangers.
However, with this method there are also strengths and weaknesses when using this method. The
major strengths to focus groups are: they can save time and money compared to other methods, they
provide participants the opportunity to explain their viewpoints, it allows for participants to be more
open and give clarification on their personal and group perceptions, and they provide for a broad range
of information and data to be collected from the sample. The disadvantages to focus groups are: they
are hard to manage among a large group, there can be disagreements or unnecessary conversations
among participants that might take away from the main questions being asked, and not everyone
might what to participate or feel intimidated. Not only are their strengths and weaknesses, but also
there is also ethical concerns because it is an open group setting compared to other methods.
Therefore, the main ethical concern with focus groups is that a researcher has disclosed participants
identities to each other, which can be a concern particularly if there are sensitive topics being
discussed among one

In a story, the particular way a character uses language sheds light on her understanding of herself and
the world around her because language is the vessel for meaning making and the construction of
reality. In literature, stylistics (Simpson 2004, Jeffries 2010) provides the tools for an analysis of
language by investigating where the literary effects stem from. One of the tools is transitivity

explains Our perception is leaky. We can t tell the difference between the quality of the food and the

car is washed or valeted. When you drive away, your car feels as it drives better. And the reason for
this, unless my car valet is mysteriously changing the oil and performing work which I m not paying
him for and are unaware of, is because perception is in any case leaky. So if you do something that s
perceptional bad in one case, you can damage the other. Anyone s perception can be fixed. Some
gentlemen may think after a car wash their cars perform better but is that really the case? No, the car,
after is cleaning, is now perceived as higher quality, therefore, it performs at a higher level, which then
leads to the perception that the quality of life one lives has evolved. A clean car just makes anyone feel
better. With this information one can know start acknowledging that our perception of ourselves

n the discussions of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven, one issue has been the explanation of the bird and it
s presence in the poem. Majority agrees that the feathered creature does have a symbolic meaning of
the conscious mind of the speaker in the poem. The agreement usually ends with how we
communicate with our selves. Some focus more on who or what a person is talking to with their
conscious while others direct their attention to how we can better understand our conscious
conversations with our selves. Any time someone thinks, their brain has a special, designated voice for
their thoughts. This voice, allows an individual to in some degree, have a conversation with their self,
without necessarily communicating out loud. This voice in our heads has had numerous names
throughout the years, such as a person s conscious or recently has been called the self. Many
researchers have wanted to know who and or what the actual voice is that we hear in our

38. E Manufacturing Group, An Electrical Appliance Company
4.1 Introduction This chapter summarizes the study carried out in E Manufacturing group, an electrical
appliance company in China. It starts with a brief introduction of the group s background information
and an overview of the recent development of China. This study then proceeds to discuss the
implementation of BSC in the case E Manufacturing. Next, it explores the gap of how the BSC differ
from the expectation with the actual practices. Last but not the least, this study highlights the

The development of E Manufacturing can be divided into five major phases. First is the brand building
phase (1984 1991). By only focusing on refrigerators, the group had transformed its small factory into
the number one refrigerator brand in China. Second is diversification development phase (1991 1998).
In this phase, the group had successfully restructured from a single product company to a
manufacturer with multiple product lines including both white and brown goods. Moreover, E
Manufacturing had adopted consumer responsive innovation for particular customer needs.
Immediately followed by the third phase of global brand building (1998 2012) to deepen its market
penetration. Foreign sales channels were launched by the group for entering into international
mainstream markets where it aims to integrate global resources to build a local brand in each
geographic area worldwide. At the beginning of 2013, E Manufacturing being inspired by the latest
wave of Internet based companies is now undergoing the fifth phase networking strategy stage. The
reinvention of the group as an Internet based company in a way that few other companies have
attempted, let alone realized (Company s website). E Manufacturing s ambitious technological
internationalization strategy together with an intensive diversification and foreign market strategy
played an instrumental role in the progress to the leading position today. The company had exerted

39. Examples Of Preposition Of Orientation
The basic preposition of a direction is to.
TO: signifies orientation toward a goal. When the goal is physical, such as a destination, to implies
movement in the direction of the goal. Image Caption: We flew from New York to Paris. (OR) We
flew to Paris.
When the goal is not a physical place, for instance, an action, to marks a verb; it is attached as an
infinitive and expresses purpose. The preposition may occur alone or in the phrase in order. The two
uses can also occur together in a single sentence:
We flew from New York to Paris to see our father.
The other two prepositions of direction are compounds formed by adding to to the corresponding
prepositions of location.
The preposition of location determines the meaning of the preposition ... Show more content on

Image Caption: The milk went into the glass.
With many verbs of motion, on and in have a directional meaning and can be used along with onto and
into.
This is why to is inside parentheses in the title of the handout, showing that it is somewhat optional
with the compound prepositions. Thus, the following sentences are roughly synonymous: Image
Caption: The paper went into the garbage can. Image Caption: The crab washed up onto the shore.
To the extent that these pairs do differ, the compound preposition conveys the completion of an action,
while the simple preposition points to the position of the subject as a result of that action. This
distinction helps us understand how directional and locational prepositions are related: they stand in
the relationship of cause and effect.
The paper went into the garbage can.
Position of subject: the paper is in the garbage can.
The crab washed up onto the shore.
Position of subject: the crab is on the shore.

41. The Freedom Of Freedom
Imagine having the ability to be able to do whatever you please, however you please and whenever
you please. The ability to speak, travel, lead, rebel and countless other actions. This is the core
principle behind freedom. Everyone on Earth has the desire to be free. But what does it mean to truly
be free? Freedom by definition is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without
hindrance or restraint (Oxford English Dictionary). It s a concept that we have fought for since the
beginning of time, whether it be for ourselves, others or even animals. The U.S as a country, like many
other countries that is completely built upon the convention of freedom. It is so important to us that
freedom is one of the rights listed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. After centuries or
even millennia of fighting for the basic right of freedom, a sizable portion of the population in first
world countries are proud to say that they re free. But are they really free? Is there a such thing as a
human who is actually free, let alone the average person. Even though we are not literally bound in
chains, there are still shackles that prevent all of us from truly being free.
Throughout the course of history freedom has been a controversial topic in society. There has always
been the question of who deserves freedom, what rights fall under freedom and what freedom is in the
first place. As a construct, freedom has been well ingrained into modern society and most people that

42. Conversion Therapy Case Study
In 2005 a new trend was emerging. A man named Richard Cohen claimed he could use conversion
therapy to convert gays into straight men. He claimed that he had once been gay and is now happily
married with children (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods of conversion included trauma counseling
as well as catharsis methods and group therapy, only to name a few. In his trauma counseling in men
who had been sexually assaulted in their past, he would coddle them and give them a safe haven by
holding them like children, he would also give them a tennis racket and tell them to hit a pillow and
yell at whomever it was they were angry with (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods not only seem
unorthodox but harming. After this report it was found that Cohen was ... Show more content on

44. Theme Of Heroic Nature In Antigone
Sophocles portrayals Antigone s heroic nature through indirect characterization and her tragic flaw by
direct characterization. Foiling her against her sister Ismene, Antigone appears to be a fearless and
flinty heroine. Facing Creon s law, Antigone and Ismene presents two contrasting personalities.
Ismene refuses Antigone s invitation to bury Polynices, and argues that she is not to be blamed: I m
forced, I have no choice I must obey/ the ones who stand in power (Sophocles 78, 79). Ismene chooses
to be the coward in Antigone s words, escaping from her responsibility to bury her dead brother to stay
away from any trouble. On the other hand, Antigone insists in her decision: I will bury him myself.

According to the sentry, Antigone hovers over Polynices body like a bird come back to an empty nest,
/peering into its bed, and all the babies gone (Sophocles 472, 473). Comparing Antigone to a mother
bird, the description suggests that Antigone symbolizes a maternal figure and a force of nature, in
opposition to Creon s representation as the civic duty. The simile clarifies the conflict between
Antigone and Creon at a metaphorical level, and thus deepens the meaning of the play that it is not
only about the clashes between a king and a princess, but it further implies the collision between the
divine force and the state law. Utilizing simile, Sophocles indicates Antigone s symbolic meaning, and
develops the meaning of the play as a

45. First Barbie Research Paper
The first Barbie was created in March 1959 by the American business women Ruth Handler and was
manufactured by the toy company Mattel Inc. The creator of the famous Barbie dolls, Ruth Handler,
got her inspiration for the dolls from a German doll called Bild Lilli. She named the new doll she
created after her daughter, Barbara. Since the release, Mattel has sold over one billion Barbie dolls.
Barbie has since changed her body size to match what was desirable or to help different shaped girls to
accept themselves, clothing, hair and makeup styles depending on what was popular at the time of her
release and various additional features have been added and removed along the way.
Since her debut, Barbie s fashion styles, including clothing, hairstyles and makeup have had dramatic
changes. Towards the beginning of her 57 years of evolution, Barbie had generally shorter and curlier
blonde or brown hair, an overall expressionless face with tired looking blue eyes and a small mouth.

Barbie has had over 100 diverse careers in various fields. The purpose of this was to send a message
to young girls, telling them that they can be smart and don t have to rely on men. Mattel showed this
by producing Barbie dolls who were pilots, doctors, surgeons, dentists, Olympic athletes, fire fighters,
scuba divers and many more. Although the company has shown what girls can do, they have also
made controversial Barbie products, showing prejudice and giving girls a bad influence. One of
Barbie s outfits, Barbie Baby Sits , came with a guide on how to lose weight and written inside was
the words Don t eat! which caused public outcry and led to the doll being removed. Teen Talk Barbie

46. Social Construction Of Gender Roles Essay
Gender roles are personality traits, mannerisms, interests, attitudes, and behaviors that are regarded as
either male or female by a person s culture. It has been proven that both genetics and environment
influence the development of gender roles; they are mostly taught while growing up. However, they
may prevent people from conforming to their true gender identities. In fact, if we no longer assigned
genders, then our society would change to be more inclusive. This does not mean that traditional roles
are bad, but more research is needed to discover the influences of genetics and environment on
individual gender roles and in society. Until then, these roles are stopping our society from developing
into a more equal and open minded place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the majority of women don t stay at home all day, the still have some roles that are
expected of them. They are expected to primarily take care of the children, and make sure the house is
tidy. Social arrangements, such as dinner with friends, are likely to be managed by the wife. Wives are
more likely to initiate discussions about planned vacations. If the kids need to be driven to activities, it
is usually the mother who does the driving. She is also likely to be the one buying clothes for them.
But men also have standards too. They re often in charge of fixing up things in the house or tuning up
the car. Or if someone tosses a ball around with the kids, it is likely to be the father. Most of these little
actions and behaviors aren t done on purpose, they re just habits. The husband might take out the
garbage, carry packages into the house or the grill master. The wife might dress the kids, make plans,
and call family members. This isn t necessarily a bad thing, but it shows how deeply ingrained these
expectations

Yellow fever was carried by mosquitos that had bitten people containing yellow fever. The symptoms
of yellow fever consisted of Mild cases cause fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Serious cases
may cause fatal heart, liver, and kidney conditions (Mayo clinic). In the book Fever 1793 Mattie s
mother falls ill with the fever, as Mattie explains, mother flew off the pillows violently ill, vomiting
blood all over the bed and floor. Her eyes rolled back in her head. (Anderson) Mattie s mother has just
woken up ill in the middle of the night. Mattie knows that she is not safe sticking around so her and
her grandfather flee in search for a safer place. The description in the book of yellow fever helps
influence research and further studies to find a cure because not only does the reader and the audience
get a detailed description of the fever, they also see the emotional side. Mattie is scared and she tries
her best to take care of the mother all she can without becoming infected herself. Because of the
emotional effects it has on the readers, researchers take to account how damaging the virus really is
not only to the infected but to the bystanders. Between the years of 1793 and 2016, researchers have
come up with ways to lessen the intensity of the symptoms by prescribing, things such as aspirin or
other nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs, and taking the patients into places like hospitals where the
patients can and will be kept in a

50. Why Student Attends Secondary School
Where a student attends secondary school has a large influence on whether they are able to proceed in
higher education. I believe that this is a failing in our educational system, and I want to be a part of
changing the injustices in our educational system. These ambitions have led me to believe that
diversifying my knowledge of educational systems is imperative and I have chosen to study abroad in
Regensburg, Germany in order to receive an international perspective on education. Due to my
passion for education and because the study abroad program at Regensburg that I selected will benefit
me in achieving my long term goals, I believe I would be a worthy candidate for the 2016 Cassandra
Pyle Scholarship.
When I was still in the 7th grade, I was sent by my middle school to the local high school to attend
classes. My middle school did not offer a rigorous enough curriculum a lack of funds needed to
diversify the classes the school district offered. I was not the first student in my district to attend high
school classes while still in middle school, in fact, a few students that I knew personally had already
done this.. I identified with their frustration when they, as sophomores, had already completed the
highest math and English courses the high school offered and there was nothing at a higher level left
for them to study in those subjects. I witnessed smart, ambitious, hardworking students in a school
system that was unable to meet their needs. However, despite there being
