The Use of Salicylic Acid in Medicine
The medical field uses acids and bases all of the time because, our body uses acids and bases every
day to try to get the PH levels as neutral as possible in our bodies. The neutral PH level in our bodies
is 7.3.When your organs stop neutralizing acids and bases you need medical help. If the pH level goes
over an acidity or basic level it can be really dangerous. That applies to almost every reaction in your
metabolism. Due to the fact that our body needs, and produces acids and bases, I m going to touch on
three. The first Acid is Salicylic Acid, most people have probably heard if not used this common acid,
for acne, warts, dandruff, and much more. The base that I will be talking about, Hydrogen Peroxide is
used all the time typically for handling infected scrapes, burns and minor cuts. Last but not least is,
Alginate Acid, which is normally used or associated for packing a wound, but is actually quite
common, just unnoticed, like in your processed foods, and fire retardants. Without the use of acids and
bases in medicine, our pH levels in our bodies wouldn t be able to stay at a neutral 7.3 level.
Salicylic Acid is a common type of Acid used in the Medical world. This acid is used on the skin to
treat common skin blemishes, acne, dandruff, corn, calluses, and hand and foot warts. Salicylic acid,
will progressively peel off the wart, or reduce swelling, redness, and blocked pores for acne. Salicylic
acid is a keratolytic agent. It works and acts like an aspirin. It works

The Wagner Act
Right, to Work Laws initially showed up in a few states after Congress established the 1935 National
Labor Relations Act, otherwise called the Wagner Act, and most are still active today in about twenty
two states today. The rights associated with these laws displayed the differences of the ideology
amongst business and representative. They ensure the individual laborer s opportunity to decline to
join or to help bolster a union, including one picked by the employee to represent as their bartering
agent. Consequently, from the point of view invigorating the Wagner Act, they were meant to create
frictions leading to the disruption of any labor agreements. More particularly, ideal right to work laws
are pointed against union security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(History 101) Prior to 1935, workers had the right to choose whether or not they wanted to join a
union and to not have to lose any pay if a labor dispute was being fought, however, bosses likewise
had the privilege to terminate laborers since they had enlisted in unions or had partaken in strikes.
Amid financial tough circumstances, it was more troublesome for a representative to discover other
work than it was for a business to procure another worker. In this way, specialists were reluctant to
join exchange unions, and by 1933 only 10 percent of America s workforce was unionized. (American
History, 2010)
In 1935, Congress passed and President Franklin Roosevelt marked into law the National Labor
Relations Act (NLRA), known as the Wagner Act after its Senate supporter, New York Democrat
Robert Wagner. Segment 7 of the Wagner Act states: Workers should have the privilege to self
association, to shape, join, or help work associations, to deal by and large through delegates of their
own picking, and to take part in other deliberate exercises with the end goal of aggregate haggling or
other shared guide or assurance . Notwithstanding, Section 8(3) of the Wagner Act considered
understandings amongst bosses and officers of a union requiring union enrollment as a state of
business if the union was affirmed or perceived as the representatives selective dealing specialist on

The Zookeeper s Wife
The opening scene of the Zookeeper s Wife is vital in establishing the binary between the oasis of the
zoo before the war and the destruction the war brings. Natural sunlight fills the first scene of the film
and green is a common color found throughout the zoo. The first scene oozes natural beauty and
signifies the life that occupies it. The zoo seems almost too perfect, like it could not possibly be a
creation of man, but of one gifted from the heavens. The zoo begins as the Garden of Eden in the
midst of Poland, but as the war erupts, it mimics the original sin, destroying the zoo turning its
sanctuary into a thing of the past. The ash from the ghettos covers the zoo and literally represents
destruction of not only the ghetto but, the former

Nokia
1. How do you think the marketing task for Nokia is different in developing markets (versus in
developed countries)?
Nokia has conducted a customer driven marketing strategy. They segment the market by income and
they have divided their target group into developing markets and developed ones. They sell phones to
over 150 countries and among them European countries contributes to 39 percent of its total net sales
while Asia, Latin America, and other developing markets account for 56 percent. It is shown from the
numbers that developing markets are essential for Nokia.

This is hard to copy because their customer loyalty is gained from a long period of time. In one word,
Nokia s competitive advantage in developed markets is not as strong as that in developing markets but
they still have a pretty good market share. Being a market leader in developing markets, what Nokia
needs to do is to protect and expand its market shares. And being more of a market challenger in
developed markets, Nokia needs to keep transforming their product to meet the new demands ands not
to lose their market shares to others. Ben Jerry s

Thomas tried to make up for the scandal by being a different kind of justice. He was the only justice

Early Junior Year Research Paper
Early junior year was a very rough time for me when it comes to the gradebook. The first semester of
the 2016 2017 year I ended up with two F s, two D s, a B+ and a C , which was very, very bad. I
realized this was not what I was capable of and it was not anywhere near my best work. My parents
were disappointed with my actions. It was instilled in me at a young age by my parents that school
ALWAYS comes first. My theater director who taught me all throughout high school was disappointed
in me, and my soccer coach was disappointed in me.
As my dad looked at my grades for the first time his face was overcome with the purest form of
disbelief and frustration and from that moment I know it was over. He pulled me from the Fall musical
and the soccer team that day. This immediately made me realize that my actions had consequences,
and in this case, big ones. I was enrolled in dual credit classes at IVY Tech. We could go there and the
high school would pay for it if we made above a C in the classes. I did not make above a ... Show

poorly in the classroom. Now, here I am senior year and my grades have stayed where they were when
I left off junior year and in some aspects, gotten a little bit better. I was given a second chance and I

Upton Sinclair Short Biography
During my investigating of one most famous muckrakers; I found was Upton Sinclair whom I have
had the privilege to get know. Sinclair has shown to be a very interesting person. Sinclair has had
many challenges over his life time; from the articles and books he has written, reforms that he has set
in place, makes this person very interesting. Upton Sinclair was born September 20, 1878 in
Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised in poverty but his father worked as a liquor salesman, which gave
him the chance to be around different types of people. Sinclair and his family moved when he was
older and found himself growing up in New York City. He would tell me of some stories about loving
the works of Shakespeare and Percy Bysshe Shelley, which at every chance he would get to read these
works. Upton started college at a young age of fourteen and where he went to school was the City

mistreatment of workers in the meatpacking industry. After some time of doing research he wrote a
book called, The Jungle. Sinclair also, published the following novels The Metropolis (1908) and
King Coal (1917), The Goose Step (1923). During the Great Depression, Sinclair took further interest
in politics and ran for the governor of California. He told me he lost, but wrote a book about how the
race developed and called his book I, Candidate for Governor: And How I Got Licked in 1935. One of
Sinclair s readers of his book took interest in him and he was President Roosevelt, who read the

Human Control And Its Effects On Modern Society
History is the sum of the events that result from human control going well or bad. Myriad times in
history have there been instances where control or power has been given to a person and their control
is beneficial or detrimental to a society. In The Early History of Rome, author and historian Livy
writes how human control has played out in Roman civilization, one of the most influential societies
of Western civilization. By writing this vivid history, Livy demonstrates that when human control is
given, the best outcomes result when humans act selflessly instead of selfishly. According to Livy,
therefore, historical knowledge helps us develop a more collectivistic view of our modern society in
order to maintain morality in them. The story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue that his troops were the ones who directly attacked the Etruscans, but if it weren t for
Cocles assist in keeping them from advancing, the troops wouldn t have been inspired enough to fight.
In this situation, no one else but Cocles self sacrificing actions were out of pure courage to protect the
people and troops of the Janiculum as a whole. Just as the unknown, Chinese man defended himself
and others by blocking a line of army tanks in their path during the Tiananmen Protests in 1989,
Clocles courage was genuine and unselfish. In both of these instances, morality overpowered
dangerous consequences and circumstances and created a positive outcome. His collectivistic actions
were significant enough for Livy to write about. Just as Horatius Cocles displayed a great amount of
courage and selflessness for others, Cloelia, a hostage in captivity of the Etruscans, also showed much
courage and leadership. Leading a group of other female hostages along with her, she passed the
Etruscan guards, and swam her way across the Tiber River to return her fellow hostages to the Roman
side. What is unique about Cloelia s brave actions, unprecedented in a woman, by an equally
unprecedented honour , was the reaction her escape had on Porsena, who ended up admiring her
courage (Livy, 124). Cloelia could have easily ignored her desire to try to

Teenage Suicide In The United States
In 2014, 1,668 teenagers committed suicide in the United States. Each year the number of suicides
increases. Being bullied, depression, and family drama are some causes of teenage suicide. Teenagers
who commit suicide are usually impulsive. Impulsiveness is when a person acts without thinking
through a plan or its consequences. Teenage suicide is a big problem in the United States, but luckily
there are ways to prevent it. Suicide is most common among teenagers. In 2014, seventy seven percent
of people that committed suicide were male while thirty four percent were female. Studies reveal that

who was familiar with the victim. The families of the victim go through a lot of hardship. The mother
of the victim will usually become depressed as well as the siblings. Studies show that after a mere four
month after a person committed suicide a sibling of the victim would also commit suicide. Children of
parents who commit suicides will commit suicide later in life. In addition, studies show that if a
teenager was in a relationship (boy/girlfriend) and committed suicide there was a high chance the
other would follow suit. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States. Teenagers
who commit suicide are usually not in the right state of mind and not acting like their true self. In
order to prevent teenagers from committing suicide, awareness of its warning signs and recognizing its
symptoms are crucial. Family and friends of people that commit suicide regret not having done more
to prevent it from happening. Through learning how to prevent suicide and recognizing warning signs
of suicide, we can lower the suicide rate and make the world a better

Role Of Justice And The State Of The Athenian Statesman Essay
Although Solon is recognized as an eminent figure in developing the early stages of Athenian
democracy, writings and other accounts of the life and beliefs of the Athenian statesman and writer are
relatively sparse. As a poet, Solon merged political theory with forceful expression to craft poems
centered on the role of justice and the state. Of the scarce secondary descriptions of Solon, Herodotus
s account in The Histories ranks most significant, in which Solon emerges as a sagely but transient
advisor to the myopic monarch Croesus. While Solon s appearance is short lived, the pith of his words
echoes throughout the parable of not only Croesus, but The Histories as a whole. In juxtaposing these
connected works, a clearer image of Solon comes into focus. He is a man obsessively concerned with
complex, interrelated social paradigms authority, happiness, and prosperity, particularly as their
manifestation in society conflicts with his own understanding of justice and morality. Solon s
diagnosis of Athenian society paints a bleak picture of a society founded upon . The citizens are
witless , bent on ruining their great city , while the rulers are unjust in mind , arrogant, greedy, and
unconcerned with the greater good (Solon Fr 4.5 7). Parallel to Athens and its woes is Sardis. Sardis is
a warlike city ruled by Croesus, a zealous and power thirsty monarch willing to attack neighboring
cities under pretexts substantive or trivial , (Herodotus 1.26) in doing so

A Study On An Online Course
Scenario 1: A staff member scans photographs from some out of print books for use by a
professor on his course web site for an online course.
Scenario 2: The semester has started and some students have not received their textbook, so
one student makes electronic copies of the textbook and distributes the copies to others in the course.
He does not collect any money from his classmates.
The above scenarios both take place in an educational environment, which immediately calls fair
use to mind. Fair use allows for a copyrighted work to be used for criticism, comment, news reporting,
teaching, scholarship and research (Copyright.gov, 2011). In both of these cases, claims could be made
that the people using the copyrighted work are doing so for teaching or scholarship purposes, which
would make both of them eligible for fair use. Yet, fair use has four factors that have to be taken into
consideration when determination if the use is indeed fair. These four factors are: commercial or non
commercial use, nature of the work, amount or substantiality of the worked used, and impact of the
use
on the work (Copyright.gov, 2011). These factors are what really make case for the difference between
these two cases.
The first factor of fair use is commercial vs. non commercial use. These two cases may seem
different initially, but they are actually the same in respect to this factor. The student in scenario 2 is
copying the textbook and giving it away free to their

Lockout And Tagout Procedures
Lockout/Tagout is a safety procedure that is used to make sure that dangerous machines are properly
shut off and not started up again until the completion of maintenance or servicing work is finished.
Lockout /tagout procedures are important to employees and employers. The purpose of a
lockout/tagout program is to prevent injuries and unnecessary expenses to a company. Lockout/tagout
procedures and work instructions are created and implemented by employees and employers. Lockout
is the isolation of energy from equipment or a machine with a physical lock. De energization is a
process that is used to cut off a source of energy or separate a system from its source of energy, in
order to stop the discharge of that energy. By de energizing the system, you are eliminating the chance
that the system could accidentally cause harm to a person through movement, or the release of heat,

Companies can be fined if they do not properly train their employee s lockout/tagout procedures.
Companies can also be fined if those procedures are not followed correctly. Over hundreds of workers

OSHA penalizes companies for not complying with Lock Out; these fines exceed millions of dollars
per year. Unfortunately, many workers do not lock out properly. OSHA reports that many tagout
procedures performed improperly is the fifth most violated standard of OSHA. When placing the

Important Topics for Projects in Marketing
Selection of research topic is the basic and important part of research report, thesis or dissertation. It
requires a lot of energy, resources and time to choose an appropriate topic for the research. There are
numerous factors which need to be taken into consideration before final selection of the research
topic. For example a research topic should neither be too broad nor should be too narrow. Similarly,
the topic should be researchable, interesting, clear and feasible. In order to have an idea of different

Python s Dictionary ( Dict ) Data Types
Python s dictionary (dict) data type is a structure composed of key:value pairs where a value is
associated with a key used to look up that value. In other languages, similar data structures are often
known as associative arrays. Dictionary keys must be unique (among other keys in the dict) and
immutable, but values can be mutable or immutable and can be any data type. Dictionaries themselves
are mutable, which means that key:value pairs can be removed or added to dictionaries, or the value of
any pair modified. Dictionaries have generally been considered unordered (order has actually been
determined by the hash table, which is based on the specific Python implementation, and thus cannot
be relied on). The hash table is actually a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Engaging and supporting student learning has developed into an area of strength for me. What I have
witnessed first hand is that by moving through the general education curriculum you can embed skills
predicated on each student s current level of instruction. You use the general education curriculum as a
backdrop and then adapt and modify the curriculum to suit each student s needs. It sounds like it s not
possible when you actually hear it in a credential program. It s not until you actually start becoming
familiar with each student and their needs that it becomes clearer as to what to do. For example, we

I often rewarded students with tokens for going above and beyond in helping their classmates. I want
to inspire them to be not just good students, but even better people!
The impetus for this realization came about as the subject of SBAC and Cal. Alt. testing was broached
in a staff meeting in the winter. We were given booklets that contained questions that were old or
similar questions to those that had appeared before on the test. I used these booklets as a planner for
my winter/spring instruction guide. I went through the booklets with the class doing the problems. As
we approached each problem, if it was a subject we had not yet covered or discussed, I would break it
down and build a lesson around it. It was quite beneficial as we were now working on things that they
would ultimately see on their respective tests. They were doing exactly what their general education
peers were doing. The difference being that rather than glancing over the material, I was using the
material as a base and then adapting and modifying it based on each student s needs.
This was really helpful as when each of the students took their respective tests, they had a fighting
chance. I administered the Cal. Alt. to some of my class, and while they didn t get all the answers
correct, they got quite a few right. There was nothing more rewarding than seeing questions arise on a

The Government Of India ( Goi ) Proposed Ban On Tobacco...
The Government of India (GOI) proposed ban on tobacco advertising was not unusual keeping in view
the international precedents. Countries like France, Finland, and Norway had already imposed similar
bans. An example is Belgium whose Supreme Court (of Appeal in 1981, gave its ruling that a ban on
tobacco advertising was not unconstitutional. In a case which started in 1991 and ended in 1997, RJ
Reynolds Tobacco Company, marketer of Camel cigarettes, was forced to withdraw its mascot, Joe
Carmel, an animated camel, from all its advertisements, after the California Supreme Court (USA)
ruled that the company could be prosecuted for exploiting minors. The accusation was that the slick,
colourful advertisements (using an animated camel) appealed to the children and encouraged them to
smoke.
The impact of cigarette advertising on consumers was another contentious issue. A World Bank report
published the details of a comprehensive study of over 100 countries, comparing the consumption
trends over time in those countries where relatively complete bans on advertising and promotion were
and where were no such bans. In the countries with nearly complete bans, the downward trend in
consumption was much steeper. In 1992, the Department of Health (DOH), UK reviewed various
forms of evidence to assess whether tobacco advertising affected the aggregate demand for tobacco
products. Four countries (Norway, Finland, Canada and New Zealand) were chosen, as these countries

Essay Marcus Aurelius and Stoic Philosophy
Marcus Aurelius and Stoic Philosophy
Stoicism is a belief that the universe, despite its appearances, is completely rational and guided by
fate. Within it, individuals can, by conforming themselves to divine reason, find their proper place,
learn to accept whatever happens with a strong and tranquil mind, and fulfill their obligations to
society. These beliefs are the heart of Stoicism, a philosophy that originated in Athens during the 3rd
century BC. Stoicism can be divided into three periods: Old (300 129 BC.), middle (129 30 BC.), and
New (30 BC. AD 200). The foundations were laid by Zeno and were reshaped by his Greek and
Roman followers (Comptons). Among the eminent Roman Stoics were Seneca, Epictetus, and the ...

This view is similar to pantheism, which sees god in all aspects of nature. All specific bodies, whether
animal, mineral, or vegetable, are composed of a godly matter. The human mind is also a fragment of
god contained in the individual. By living in harmony with nature, the mind is able to direct a person
into a life guided by correct reason. Everything that happens in the world is planned by fate. Just as
everyone has a duty to live by reason, so everyone should learn to accept with courage and calm
whatever circumstances the world brings. The notion of morality involves a life in accordance with
nature and controlled by virtue. It is as ascetic system, which teaches perfect indifference to
everything external. Nothing external can be either good or evil (Stanford). To Stoics, both pain and

Ethical teaching is based on two principles: first, that the universe is governed by absolute law, which
admits of no exceptions; and second, that the essential nature of humans is reason. Virtue, is the life
according to reason. Morality is simply rational action. It is the universal reason, which is to govern
our lives. The definition of morality as the life according to reason was shared by Plato, Aristotle, and
Stoics. The Stoics however, had a much narrower interpretation, which they gave this principle.

Dear Editor,
I am writing to you in regard to the Bridger Teton National Forest. It is the largest intact ecosystem in
the lower 48 United States. Offering nearly 1.2 million acres of designated Wilderness, over 3,000
miles of road and trail and thousands of miles of unspoiled rivers and streams. (USDA Forest Service)
I am appealing to you as a conservationist. I believe that the natural resources of the forest can be of
great help to us. As we experience this oil and gas crisis in the US, we are forced to import oil from
foreign countries. Thus causing the cost of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once there has been a risk management assessment, we can know exactly what to expect and what can
be done to prevent any type of risk. We will also know how to deal with any risk while it is happening
to contain it.
All of these are reasons I think that the Bridger Teton National Forest resources can be conserved. It
will provide help for all of us as well as maintain its wildlife and scenic vistas.
Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I am writing to you in regard to the Bridger Teton National Forest. I write to you as someone who
believes in preservation. I believe that the forest should be preserved and not conserved. The Bridger
Teton National Forest is a landmark and should be kept that way. It is a place where locals find
solitude in huge tracts of forest backcountry when nearby wilderness areas and national parks are
crowded with out of state visitors. It s also a place that supports traditional, sustainable activities such
as outfitting, guiding, ranching, and recreation ( Wyoming Outdoor Council 2009 2013). All of these
values are being threatened because the forest is being considered for oil and gas development. While
oil and gas may be useful to us, I do not think that the forest should suffer the consequences. The
natural resources should be left alone for everyone to enjoy in its natural state. To upset this would be
environmentally incorrect.
Although Wyoming is a key principal as an energy provider, there are many downsides to

Lee Harvey Oswald Essay Outline
Lee Harvey Oswald came into the world on October 39th, 1939. His parents were Robert Edward Lee
Oswald, Sr and Marguerite Frances Claverie. Robert Oswald was dead of a heart attack three months
before Lee Harvey Oswald was born. Although Lee Harvey Oswald never met his dad, he was always
reminded of him through pictures around the house. Robert Oswald was a far cousin of Confederate
general Robert E. Lee from the American Civil Wars . (Wikipedia said that) In 1944, Marguerite
Frances Claverie moved the family from New Orleans to Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald went into
the 1st grade in 1945 and over the years he went to different schools in the Dallas and Fort Worth

On September 11, 1959, he received discharge from active service, claiming his mother needed care,
and was put on the reserves list. Just before he turned 20, in 1959 he traveled to the Soviet Union. He
saved up $1500 of his Marine Salary so he could go to the Soviet Union. In March 1961, Oswald met
Marina Prusakova, a 19 year old pharmacology student. They both liked each other so they started to
date each other. In less than a year they were married and had one kid. They settled in Fort Worth,
Dallas. In July 1962, Oswald was hired by the Leslie Welding Company in Dallas. He did not like the
work and quit after some time. On October 12, 1962 he started working for the graphic arts firm of
Jaggars Chiles Stovall as a photoprint trainee. He liked this job a lot more than he like the welding job.
Oswald was fired about 5 and a half months later, on the first week of April 1963. In March 1963,
Oswald used the name A. Hidell to make a mail purchase of a used Carcano rifle for $30.00. He also
bought a .38 Smith Wesson revolver by the mail. On April 10, 1963, Oswald attempted to kill retired
Edwin Walker, a Major U.S. General that was anti communist. He fired the Carcano rifle at Walker
through a window from less than 30 meters away as Walker sat at a desk in his Dallas home. The
bullet struck the window frame and Walker s only injuries were bullet fragments to the forearm.

Shelley Reed Critique
The painting that I choose for this looking assignment is the long painting about animals, which locate
in the bottom floor of University of New Hampshire museum. This painting was painted by the painter
name Shelley Reed, and the painting name is the dubious battle, this painting was complete in 2013.
Just like it name, the painting shows a very unique theme, and it also carries a unique elements,
especially with the color and the way that Reed combine two themes into one painting. When I look at
it the first times, the thing that caught my eyes is the length of the painting. The painting had a shape
of a rectangle, the width of the painting cover one whole middle wall, and around ten percent of the
left and right wall, and the content of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the half right, the Reed drew the violent animal like: tiger, lion . Fighting each other, and try to eat
each other, she draws wild dog in the mix, and near the middle, she draws a dead bird, and near the
dead bird is a gun. Because the right half of the painting shows this scene, my prediction that Reed
tries to show the audience that if the animal is weak, they are going to get eaten up by animal that
stronger than them, it doesn t matter whether they come from the same species or not. Reed also
shows that if you have a prominent weapon, then it s really easy to kill, she shows it by painting a

What do both of the stories the Necklace and The Bet have in common? Well they are both trying to
say that both the characters, the lawyer and Mathilde have to deal with a money problem and have a

First of all Mathilde wants to feel pretty and things only white girls will understand. So she gets some
stuff that make her feel pretty and that s when the problem starts. Mathilde loses her necklace where
she gets a panic attack and starts to lose it. When she prepares to attend a fancy party, she borrows a

Lt Gen Lewis B. Puller
The history of Lieutenant General Lewis B. Chesty Puller is not well known outside of the U.S.
Marine Corps, but as the most decorated marine in history his legend will live on and continue to
inspire the marines of tomorrow. The enlisted corps has idolized him, frequently encouraging one
another to do that last push up when motivated by fellow marines saying Do one for Chesty! The
purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that Chesty, using current day leadership theories, was a
visionary and ethical leader who exemplified the characteristics that our nation s military needed
during World War II and still needs today. I will explain how he embodied some principles of Full

He returned stateside and received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1924. In 1928, he was
ordered to the Nicaraguan National Guard to fight armed bandit forces. The significance of these two
battle experiences was seen when Lieutenant Colonel Puller led his marines into combat in World War
II. Chesty led his Marines by drawing on his past experiences. According to Authentic Leadership
Theory, leaders must first understand where they came from, their life experiences, their strengths, and
how they behave toward others (CF02, 2012, pg. 8). Chesty went to great lengths to care for his men,
particularly his enlisted corps, by conducting grueling training missions. After daytime combat, he
walked around and talked to his men at night to encourage them by keeping spirits high. While some
junior leaders would continue to chafe at Chesty s treatment of them, after their first brush with
combat none would regret his insistence on tough training (Hoffman, 2001, pg. 147). Through his
harsh treatment, his goal was to teach them to lead men, and that meant the men came first. His
officers ate after the enlisted, and Chesty insisted they work alongside one another during details.
Leadership is more than just being visionary; without ethical leadership, you have no trust or
credibility.
Chesty Puller was an ethical leader during combat: one of the most trying situations in which to

that I had been thrown into it, in the middle of a fight, (86). There are two rivers at Devon, Devon
River, and the Naguamsett. Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can be seen in
how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes place. Which,
was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed with mud,
seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptism takes place. This is the opposite of Devon
River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into the Nagumsett
River he is baptized in it by because he becomes fully submerged in the river. This baptism was in
impure, murky water, so it is like a reverse baptism, which shows loss of innocence, and Gene
becoming impure, and less innocent. Also, Gene s baptisms occurred at different times, showing the
differences between both baptisms. The first one occurred during the summer when Devon resembled
the garden of Eden. But, the second one occurred during the winter, further stressing that this is a
reverse baptism, and represents loss of innocence. In A Separate Peace baptism is one of the many
biblical archetypes.
The next biblical archetype is Judas and Jesus, Finny because he is pure and innocent represents Jesus.

Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian
Gray Tree
The Gray Tree is an oil painting created by Piet Mondrian. This was painted in 1911 using a thick type
of oil on canvas. This process would of taken weeks or months due to its thick layers of paint, even
though this was a long process, the motions of the brush strokes look very quick and vivid. This
painting can be found at Gemeente museum in Den Haag.
Analysis
This contemporary painting by Piet Mondrian is almost eerie looking, somewhat releasing a ghostly
essence. This painting makes me feel somewhat scared, but also intrigued, like there is a story behind
this, or like someone or something is going to come out from behind the tree. However this painting
also reminds me of (excuse my nerdy reference here) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following years, he would rely on these skills to support himself by producing scientific
drawings and copies of museum paintings.
For Mondrian, art and philosophy were deeply intertwined. He was a prolific writer and theorist, and
was drawn to spiritual and philosophical studies. In 1908, he joined the Theosophical Society, a
spiritual organization with widespread influence in Europe that eventually connected to the New Age
Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Though he later parted from the group, Theosophy influenced
Mondrian s utopian ideals which found expression in the balance and tension of form and color in his
paintings.
Always further, is how Mondrian termed his drive to transform his artwork. Starting in 1905, his
traditional landscape compositions began to reveal a new sense of drama and light. Jan Toorop, a
leading artist of Dutch Luminism, introduced Mondrian to the French Post Impressionists. Mondrian s
paintings changed dramatically as a result, integrating, for example, the bold color and brushwork of
Van Gogh and the pointillist technique of Georges Seurat.
Mature Period
The influence of Cubism marked a turning point in Mondrian s career. He became familiar with the
works of Picasso, Braque and others, and moved to Paris in 1912 which was, at the time, the thriving
center of the avant garde art world. Cubism gave Mondrian the structure to distill his landscapes to
their essence: he made use of the Cubist grid structure, reducing his

Australian Immigration Essay
Australia has a rich migration history starting with the first migrants being convicts transported from
Britain between 1788 and 1840. Free immigrants began arriving in the 1790 s (Walsh: 2001) The
Industrial revolution which caused wide spread poverty and unemployment in Britain, as well as the
demand for workers in the wool industry in Australia enticed more free settlers to Australia, followed
by the Gold rush in the 1850 s of which the largest group of immigrants were the Chinese. The
bringing in of Polynesian labourers to work in the sugar plantations of Queensland also contributed to
the population numbers swell. From 1851 to 1861 just over 600,000 people had migrated to Australia

advance through his education. St. Augustine s dad paid more than a richer man would pay for their
son s education because he wanted to provide Augustine with the proper education. (Confessions, II,

Monica, since she was a practicing Christian (II,60). In spite of this, Augustine criticized his mother
for holding him back from his sexual desire (II,8). But his father arranged his marriage and

Another difference between Analects and Confessi0ons is the different believes about one s self and

Analysis Of Disney Company And Its Impact On The World Of...
Despite nearly all forms of modern media readily available at all times in the pockets of our jeans and
hoodies, influences from media on how people perceive gender and its surrounding issues is often
overlooked or ignored under the premise of normalization. One of the top contributors of media is The
Walt Disney Company and its affiliated companies such as ABC, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures,
Lucasfilm, and Marvel Entertainment, and from a young age many children grow up on the films,
characters, books, and television series that are produced by the Walt Disney Company. In the long
history of media produced by The Walt Disney Company, beginning with its early groundbreaking
animated shorts all the way to the recent Moana, Disney has been the subject of much debate,
criticism, and praise regarding its portrayal of male and female characters. All forms of media has
portrayed both genders in stereotypical ways (Lindsey, 2015, p. 414), and because Disney is a media
giant, there is a lot of material that is directed to children that influences how they perceive gender
from an early age on up, and Disney is no stranger to portraying men and women in stereotypical
ways, even in its most recent films and television series. Disney has usually depicted women as
princesses, queens, homemakers (Yerby, Baron, Lee, p. 4) and villains that pursue the goal of usurping
far younger protagonists goals of happily ever after. Men are nearly always portrayed as either the
hero or the villain.

The Gambino Crime Family
Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and
most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began
his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino,
trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but
instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon
on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most
lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted
underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo
was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. He was embarrassed that he was categorized as a
gangster and preferred to be regarded as a diplomat or businessman. Big Paul was said to look more
like a businessman or CEO than a mobster. Paul Castellano was flashy too; he liked elegant clothing,
fine dining, and being driven around by chauffeur. He even detested violence which is not a good
quality for a mob boss to obtain. The Pope as he was referred to, was standoffish. His predecessor had
gone to the markets in Little Italy, held court in public places, lived in the city, and interacted with his
soldiers and capos. Big Paul on the other hand, generally held court at his private estate, did

Collective Identity And New Social Movements
indicate that both versions should be analyzed to fully understand the phenomenon, and will be done
so through an examination of collective identity and informal mobilization networks.
Collective Identity and New Social Movements
Identity, and more specifically, global identity, is an often contested topic in contemporary literature
on both globalization and new social movements. Critics of globalization cite the loss of localized
cultural identity, especially in developing countries, due to the proliferation of homogenized Western
ideals through advances in communication, as evidence for globalization s destructive nature
(Tomlinson, 2003). Tomlinson (2003) argues that rather than destroying concepts of personal identity,
increased interconnectedness may actually strengthen identity, referencing Manuel Castells argument
that collective identity acts in opposition of capitalist globalization and asserts individuals control over
their own lives (Castells, 1997; Tomlinson, 2003). Theorists have taken this concept and applied it to
new social movement theory by asserting that modern society has assaulted and muddled the concept
of the self, resulting in the necessary pursuit of collective identity, which is defined as an integrated

The Advertisements Made By Oral B, Colgate, And Crest Use...
Toothpaste advertisements made by Oral B, Colgate, and Crest use color, movement, and appeals in
various ways in order to have specific effects on their intended audience. These three ads, all in print
or video format, aim to garner positive reactions from their viewers and to have a memorable effect.
By formating their advertisements in differing styles, these agencies are attempting to ensure that their
product will be impactful and successful in the marketing industry.

with the merchandise they are promoting. The Oral B ad depicts a dentist holding a box of toothpaste,
surrounded by the color blue. Oral B uses this color exclusively ... Show more content on

Other evidently bright features of the advertisement include the scene in a restroom, which has a white
backdrop, and the scene in which she is walking down a hall as it includes camera flashes. The
incorporation of shininess into the background of the ad coincides with Laurie Hernandez s sparkling

along with the previously mentioned aspects of the ad lead the viewer to equate Crest with brightness
and shininess, two common characteristics that consumers look for in a toothpaste.
Another area of comparison between the three ads are their varying movements. In the Oral B
advertisement, viewers are first drawn to the image of a woman who is presumably a dentist. The
image is most drawing because of its location in the optical center; moreover, it is the focal point of
the ad. Next, the motion of the advertisement guides the viewer to the largest text, located at the top.
The top text is larger in font size and easier to read, drawing the audience in more so than the small
text which is more difficult to see from a distance. This ad then directs the eye to the toothpaste box
that the woman is holding and finally to the bottom text. The area of the bottom text also encompasses

  • 2. The Use of Salicylic Acid in Medicine The medical field uses acids and bases all of the time because, our body uses acids and bases every day to try to get the PH levels as neutral as possible in our bodies. The neutral PH level in our bodies is 7.3.When your organs stop neutralizing acids and bases you need medical help. If the pH level goes over an acidity or basic level it can be really dangerous. That applies to almost every reaction in your metabolism. Due to the fact that our body needs, and produces acids and bases, I m going to touch on three. The first Acid is Salicylic Acid, most people have probably heard if not used this common acid, for acne, warts, dandruff, and much more. The base that I will be talking about, Hydrogen Peroxide is used all the time typically for handling infected scrapes, burns and minor cuts. Last but not least is, Alginate Acid, which is normally used or associated for packing a wound, but is actually quite common, just unnoticed, like in your processed foods, and fire retardants. Without the use of acids and bases in medicine, our pH levels in our bodies wouldn t be able to stay at a neutral 7.3 level. Salicylic Acid is a common type of Acid used in the Medical world. This acid is used on the skin to treat common skin blemishes, acne, dandruff, corn, calluses, and hand and foot warts. Salicylic acid, will progressively peel off the wart, or reduce swelling, redness, and blocked pores for acne. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent. It works and acts like an aspirin. It works ... • 3. The Wagner Act Right, to Work Laws initially showed up in a few states after Congress established the 1935 National Labor Relations Act, otherwise called the Wagner Act, and most are still active today in about twenty two states today. The rights associated with these laws displayed the differences of the ideology amongst business and representative. They ensure the individual laborer s opportunity to decline to join or to help bolster a union, including one picked by the employee to represent as their bartering agent. Consequently, from the point of view invigorating the Wagner Act, they were meant to create frictions leading to the disruption of any labor agreements. More particularly, ideal right to work laws are pointed against union security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (History 101) Prior to 1935, workers had the right to choose whether or not they wanted to join a union and to not have to lose any pay if a labor dispute was being fought, however, bosses likewise had the privilege to terminate laborers since they had enlisted in unions or had partaken in strikes. Amid financial tough circumstances, it was more troublesome for a representative to discover other work than it was for a business to procure another worker. In this way, specialists were reluctant to join exchange unions, and by 1933 only 10 percent of America s workforce was unionized. (American History, 2010) In 1935, Congress passed and President Franklin Roosevelt marked into law the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), known as the Wagner Act after its Senate supporter, New York Democrat Robert Wagner. Segment 7 of the Wagner Act states: Workers should have the privilege to self association, to shape, join, or help work associations, to deal by and large through delegates of their own picking, and to take part in other deliberate exercises with the end goal of aggregate haggling or other shared guide or assurance . • 4. The Zookeeper s Wife The opening scene of the Zookeeper s Wife is vital in establishing the binary between the oasis of the zoo before the war and the destruction the war brings. Natural sunlight fills the first scene of the film and green is a common color found throughout the zoo. The first scene oozes natural beauty and signifies the life that occupies it. Myriad times in history have there been instances where control or power has been given to a person and their control is beneficial or detrimental to a society. In The Early History of Rome, author and historian Livy writes how human control has played out in Roman civilization, one of the most influential societies of Western civilization. By writing this vivid history, Livy demonstrates that when human control is given, the best outcomes result when humans act selflessly instead of selfishly. Leading a group of other female hostages along with her, she passed the Etruscan guards, and swam her way across the Tiber River to return her fellow hostages to the Roman side. • 11. Role Of Justice And The State Of The Athenian Statesman Essay Although Solon is recognized as an eminent figure in developing the early stages of Athenian democracy, writings and other accounts of the life and beliefs of the Athenian statesman and writer are relatively sparse. As a poet, Solon merged political theory with forceful expression to craft poems centered on the role of justice and the state. Of the scarce secondary descriptions of Solon, Herodotus s account in The Histories ranks most significant, in which Solon emerges as a sagely but transient advisor to the myopic monarch Croesus. While Solon s appearance is short lived, the pith of his words echoes throughout the parable of not only Croesus, but The Histories as a whole. In juxtaposing these connected works, a clearer image of Solon comes into focus. He is a man obsessively concerned with complex, interrelated social paradigms authority, happiness, and prosperity, particularly as their manifestation in society conflicts with his own understanding of justice and morality. Solon s diagnosis of Athenian society paints a bleak picture of a society founded upon . The citizens are witless , bent on ruining their great city , while the rulers are unjust in mind , arrogant, greedy, and unconcerned with the greater good (Solon Fr 4.5 7). He does not collect any money from his classmates. The above scenarios both take place in an educational environment, which immediately calls fair use to mind. Fair use allows for a copyrighted work to be used for criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship and research (Copyright.gov, 2011). In both of these cases, claims could be made that the people using the copyrighted work are doing so for teaching or scholarship purposes, which would make both of them eligible for fair use. Yet, fair use has four factors that have to be taken into consideration when determination if the use is indeed fair. These four factors are: commercial or non commercial use, nature of the work, amount or substantiality of the worked used, and impact of the use on the work (Copyright.gov, 2011). These factors are what really make case for the difference between these two cases. The first factor of fair use is commercial vs. non commercial use. Countries like France, Finland, and Norway had already imposed similar bans. An example is Belgium whose Supreme Court (of Appeal in 1981, gave its ruling that a ban on tobacco advertising was not unconstitutional. In a case which started in 1991 and ended in 1997, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, marketer of Camel cigarettes, was forced to withdraw its mascot, Joe Carmel, an animated camel, from all its advertisements, after the California Supreme Court (USA) ruled that the company could be prosecuted for exploiting minors. The accusation was that the slick, colourful advertisements (using an animated camel) appealed to the children and encouraged them to smoke. The impact of cigarette advertising on consumers was another contentious issue. A World Bank report published the details of a comprehensive study of over 100 countries, comparing the consumption trends over time in those countries where relatively complete bans on advertising and promotion were and where were no such bans. Chesty Puller is not well known outside of the U.S. Marine Corps, but as the most decorated marine in history his legend will live on and continue to inspire the marines of tomorrow. The enlisted corps has idolized him, frequently encouraging one another to do that last push up when motivated by fellow marines saying Do one for Chesty! The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that Chesty, using current day leadership theories, was a visionary and ethical leader who exemplified the characteristics that our nation s military needed during World War II and still needs today. He returned stateside and received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1924. In 1928, he was ordered to the Nicaraguan National Guard to fight armed bandit forces. The significance of these two battle experiences was seen when Lieutenant Colonel Puller led his marines into combat in World War II. Chesty led his Marines by drawing on his past experiences. According to Authentic Leadership Theory, leaders must first understand where they came from, their life experiences, their strengths, and how they behave toward others (CF02, 2012, pg. 8). Chesty went to great lengths to care for his men, particularly his enlisted corps, by conducting grueling training missions. After daytime combat, he walked around and talked to his men at night to encourage them by keeping spirits high. While some junior leaders would continue to chafe at Chesty s treatment of them, after their first brush with combat none would regret his insistence on tough training (Hoffman, 2001, pg. 147). Through his harsh treatment, his goal was to teach them to lead men, and that meant the men came first. His officers ate after the enlisted, and Chesty insisted they work alongside one another during details. Leadership is more than just being visionary; without ethical leadership, you have no trust or credibility. • 27. Archetypes In A Separate Peace that I had been thrown into it, in the middle of a fight, (86). There are two rivers at Devon, Devon River, and the Naguamsett. Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can be seen in how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes place. Which, was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptism takes place. This is the opposite of Devon River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into the Nagumsett River he is baptized in it by because he becomes fully submerged in the river. This baptism was in impure, murky water, so it is like a reverse baptism, which shows loss of innocence, and Gene becoming impure, and less innocent. Also, Gene s baptisms occurred at different times, showing the differences between both baptisms. The first one occurred during the summer when Devon resembled the garden of Eden. But, the second one occurred during the winter, further stressing that this is a reverse baptism, and represents loss of innocence. In A Separate Peace baptism is one of the many biblical archetypes. The next biblical archetype is Judas and Jesus, Finny because he is pure and innocent represents Jesus. Finny had a Decalogue for the Super Suicide Society. This process would of taken weeks or months due to its thick layers of paint, even though this was a long process, the motions of the brush strokes look very quick and vivid. This painting can be found at Gemeente museum in Den Haag. Analysis This contemporary painting by Piet Mondrian is almost eerie looking, somewhat releasing a ghostly essence. In the following years, he would rely on these skills to support himself by producing scientific drawings and copies of museum paintings. For Mondrian, art and philosophy were deeply intertwined. He was a prolific writer and theorist, and was drawn to spiritual and philosophical studies. In 1908, he joined the Theosophical Society, a spiritual organization with widespread influence in Europe that eventually connected to the New Age Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Though he later parted from the group, Theosophy influenced Mondrian s utopian ideals which found expression in the balance and tension of form and color in his paintings. Always further, is how Mondrian termed his drive to transform his artwork. Starting in 1905, his traditional landscape compositions began to reveal a new sense of drama and light. Jan Toorop, a leading artist of Dutch Luminism, introduced Mondrian to the French Post Impressionists. Mondrian s paintings changed dramatically as a result, integrating, for example, the bold color and brushwork of Van Gogh and the pointillist technique of Georges Seurat. Mature Period The influence of Cubism marked a turning point in Mondrian s career. He became familiar with the works of Picasso, Braque and others, and moved to Paris in 1912 which was, at the time, the thriving center of the avant garde art world. • 34. The Gambino Crime Family Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino, trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. • 41. Collective Identity And New Social Movements indicate that both versions should be analyzed to fully understand the phenomenon, and will be done so through an examination of collective identity and informal mobilization networks. Collective Identity and New Social Movements Identity, and more specifically, global identity, is an often contested topic in contemporary literature on both globalization and new social movements. Critics of globalization cite the loss of localized cultural identity, especially in developing countries, due to the proliferation of homogenized Western ideals through advances in communication, as evidence for globalization s destructive nature (Tomlinson, 2003). Tomlinson (2003) argues that rather than destroying concepts of personal identity, increased interconnectedness may actually strengthen identity, referencing Manuel Castells argument that collective identity acts in opposition of capitalist globalization and asserts individuals control over their own lives (Castells, 1997; Tomlinson, 2003). Theorists have taken this concept and applied it to new social movement theory by asserting that modern society has assaulted and muddled the concept of the self, resulting in the necessary pursuit of collective identity, which is defined as an integrated and continuous social self (Laraña, Johnston, and Gusfield, 1994). This drive for a collective sense of self, and the power of identity, is reflected in the increase of social movements related to gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and ...
