Why I Know What Evidence Is Used For, And Why It Is...
Learning Target
I know what evidence is, what it is used for, and why it is important.
I can read a nonfiction article and determine the central idea of the text, and how that central idea is
conveyed in the text.
I can know how to use the R.A.C.E. strategy to respond to a constructed response question.
I can use the Georgia Milestone Seven Point Two Trait Rubric to evaluate and score multiple good and
bad examples of informative/ explanatory constructed response question responses.
Assessment
Formal Assessment
R.A.C.E. Strategy Quiz At the end of the lesson, students will be handed an R.A.C.E. strategy where
they must write in what each letter of the acronym stands for.
3 2 1 Summarizing Activity On the back of the R.A.C.E. Strategy quiz students will be instructed to
write in 3 main points from the lesson today, 2 things they did not like about the lesson, and one
question they still have about the topics and information covered in the day s lesson. Both of these
assessments will be used to monitor student learning, and also evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson
and activities with these specific students.
Informal Assessment
Oral discussion, review, and questioning will be used to monitor students comprehension throughout
the lesson. Also, the students responses and answers during the whiteboard activity will be used to

Cardiovascular Disease In Men
Although men had ruled the earth for years together, the male gender is highly susceptible so far heart
disease is concerned . More men are living with and dying of Coronary Heart Disesse (CHD) than
women and have more hospital discharges for Cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) and CHD. The
prevalence of CHD is higher in men within each age stratum until after 75 years of age, which may
contribute to the perception that heart disease is a man s disease.
The classic risk factors for CVD are the same in women and men, but there are gender differences in
the prevalence of risk factors. Dr Bernadine Healy first introduced the concept of the Yentl syndrome
in 1991, suggesting gender bias in the management of CHD.

Decreased sexual activity and function are common in patients with CVD and are often interrelated to
anxiety and depression. The Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Programme (SHEEP) study of post MI
patients (50% women) found that those who were sedentary had a higher risk of MI with sexual
activity (relative risk 4.4) than did those who were physically active (relative risk 0.7). Sexual activity
is reasonable for patients who can exercise ≥3 to 5 METS without angina, excessive dyspnea,
ischemic ST segment changes, cyanosis, hypotension, or arrhythmia (Class IIa; Level of Evidence C).
In 2005, the Princeton Conference suggested that post MI patients who had undergone successful
coronary revascularization or had a treadmill test without ischemia could resume sexual activity 3 to 4
weeks after MI. CABG and most other heart surgeries (eg, valve repair/replacement) are commonly
performed through a median sternotomy, it is generally recommended that sexual activity be delayed
for 6 to 8 weeks after CABG and non coronary open heart

Essay on Causes Of The Pelopenesian War
The Causes of the Peloponessian War
Ancient Greece during the 4th century B.C. was home to the city states of Sparta and Athens. These
two communities were the superpowers of the region during that time. The peloponnesian war
between these two states evolved out of a string of events that would lead to years of conflict.
When looking for a single cause of the peloponnesian war none can be found. Over time many events
contributed to the eventual war between Sparta and Athens. I believe the peloponnesian war evolved
because of Athenian support for Spartan enemies, Spartan alarm at a rise in Athenian power, and the
drastic differences between the two cultures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Spartans were not eager for war.
After the Persian wars there was a development of Athenian control over the commercial and
economic life of Greece. This growth was caused by the Persian wars themselves. Athens faced a
mighty foe in Persia and therefore formed the Delian League. This league was an alliance of cities
based around Athens. Each city contributed funds to the construction and maintenance of a vast navy
for use against the Persian threat. After the wars Athens dominated the Delian league and declared the
contributions from each city mandatory even though the Persian menace was gone. Over time these
allied cities came under direct Athenian control and the Athenian Empire began to grow. The large
navy was still maintained after the war and Athens, already a naval power in the region tightened its
grip on the neighboring waters including those that surrounded the peloponnese. This had the effect of
enclosing Sparta s peninsula in a blanket of Athenian naval power. To the Spartans this development
was one of considerable worry. The historian Thucydides wrote; The growth of the power of Athens,
and the alarm which this inspired (in Sparta), made war inevitable. This comment validates the
seriousness of Spartan worry and its contribution to the sparking of the peloponnesian war. Sparta s
geography left it vulnerable in some ways. The

Stamp Act Reaction
A Colonial Family s Reaction to the Stamp Act Today is November first 1765, as me and my brother
come downstairs to the dinner table my mother and father are talking very quietly. As we walk into the
room my parents immediately stop talking and start getting the table and food prepared. Dinner is very
quiet for the rest of the night. While I am reading my book in my room my father walks in and asks
me, You do understand what taxes are? Don t you son? I replied to him in a questioning tone, Yes.
Why do you ask? After this my father proceeds to inform me of the new law that was just passed by

A few weeks after Thomas and I talked he asked me to watch is house while he was gone to Britain.
Soon after Thomas left a group called the Liberty boys was established, they got the name from
another group in a different colony. The age limit to join was 17, luckily I was 18, so I joined. Every
two days we had meetings, and the day after these meetings we would go destroy a representative
from Britain s home and belongings just to show the British loyalist that we were not intimidated by
there taxes. Our local tax collector Jonathan Worksmith was the reason for most anger in the colony.
So the Liberty boys and I made a life size doll or effigy of him, hung the doll on the street sign, and at
midnight we lit the doll on fire. At dinner that night, my father sat us down and explained the reason
for the tax. The purpose was to raise 60,000 pounds yearly in the colonies in order to help support the
cost of maintaining British troops in the colonies, totaling 350,000 pounds annually.

Consequences Of Marriage And Wedding Scenes In The Deer...
One of several 1978 films dealing with the Vietnam War is The Deer Hunters an old movie which the
audience can notice at the beginning. The two principal events are the wedding and the deer hunt, this
movie opens with an Italian celebration wedding, which is very unusual for today s wedding. They
have distinct cultures and it is very emotive. The wedding reception celebrates both marriage and
enlistment. The reception takes place in a Veteran s Hall, enlistment overwhelms the wedding in
ultimate significance, and the principal females (e.g., Linda) are clearly at the mercy of males. When
the deer hunt replaces the wedding, the domination of female by the male, love by war, is complete. In
the wedding scene, the director plays a long scene, even overlong, which in today s cinema would be
edited significantly to get to the action. But this long sequence sets the scene by introducing the
characters and showing us in their natural habitat. Without this, we would not know them or care for
them as much. The second even is the hunter, As the hunt takes over, human relations become more
and more dissociative. Not only do the hunters leave women behind, they split from the community of
Clairton. It was a scene where after the wedding. Michael, Nick Stanley, and two more friends were
discussing why Stanly never comes prepare and they are making fun of him and comparing his actions
to John Wayne because he always comes out with a little gun. This scene shows a Michael very strict.

Design Of An Exhibition Gallery
Some are like sea serpents, others like office cubicles, but regardless the shape, all art museum
galleries intend to give viewers a certain experience. The flowing into, out of, and around gallery
spaces within an art museum can positively or negatively affect the patron s experience.
Unfortunately, when the design of an exhibition gallery negatively affects a viewer, a disservice is
done to the artists and culture of the artworks on view. On view in the permanent collection of the
Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas is the exhibition of several seventeenth and eighteenth
century artworks with Spanish influences, accompanied by a single Japanese artifact of the same era.
At first glance, all the pieces on display within this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grouping of these paintings is quite clear from a historical and visual standpoint. The paintings
each feature warm colors with a splash of vibrancy, apparent subjects, perhaps due to their
monochromatic backgrounds, and also display the same sort of calm and collected subject matter that
much of Spanish Baroque art concentrated on. The Wine Flask, whose creator is unknown, fits in with
warm color scheme and dates back around the same time as the rest of the exhibition, however it has a
known origin of Japan.
Entering the gallery from the main corridor, the patron has two openings to choose from, one on the
left and one on the right, due to the placement of a single white vista wall. With a single exit way on
the side parallel to the entryways, a bench placed in the center of the gallery, and no floor designs
suggesting a specific route, the intended circulatory path of this exhibition is unclear. To view each
artwork within the exhibition and exit into the next gallery, the viewer is forced to travel the same path
they came at least once. Having an undefined pathway in the layout of this gallery leads to further
issues in the exhibition. The most apparent issue is that the viewer is unable to immediately recognize
if there is a focal piece in the gallery. Being in a rectangular room with two parallel white vista walls
and the remaining walls being featured in the same beige stone material with no single focal lighting
element,

Why Morality Is Wrong
I m certain you ve heard this statement in your life, if you choose the right choice it will lead you to a
good path. Overall nobody s perfect,Just because someone does something wrong doesn t make them
a bad person. One reason why morality is sometimes acceptable is when you re in a situation where
someone s life is in danger. If someone in your family is threatening their life, but you re somewhere
else, and you are speeding to get there because it was a desperate situation. You re trying to get to
them as fast as you can to save their life. So you don t care about what you have to do because you re
trying to save them. It s acceptable because you don t have a choice. In addition another reason is
bullying. When you

Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions
Perspectives in Psychology
This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in psychology
and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective will be
discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in psychology. Finally
there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each perspective and a conclusion.
The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are
blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in
America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). Behaviourists focus on external conditions, learning and

He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional
stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing
alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to
the bell was considered the conditional response.
B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning.
Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards
generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a
device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some
other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive
(which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable
outcomes).
Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think.
Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information
processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory,
perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. Ulric Neisser published
Cognitive Psychology in 1967

Of course, there are the major gangs like the Crips and the Bloods, but gang violence and activity is a
problem in the United States today. Back in 2005, the Department of Justice said there were at least
21,500 gangs and more than 731,000 active gang members. Gangs are more popular in cities than
rural areas, but gang violence is said to be the cause of half of all homicides. So if it was 731,000 11
years ago, I am sure the number has risen since then and will continue to grow if the U.S. does not
find a way to contain it. I think gang activity is something that law enforcement does not spend
enough time addressing. I live about 30 minutes from Washington, D.C. and I know there is gang
activity there, but I never hear anything about it. A local area called Manassas has a gang called MS13,
a mainly Hispanic gang and I never hear anything about it. I think there are so many other things
going on in the world that gang activity tends to be overlooked. If we want gang activity to lower we
have to stop young people from continuing to join gangs. Gang members describe gangs as a family,
and to youth that is lacking a home environment, it may seem like the right path for them to take.
Parents have to be more in their kid s lives and business to lower the chances of gangs continuing to

the decision to marry Romeo and Juliet, without thinking of the consequences or problems that would
soon come in store for the newly found lovers. (MINOR 1 FOR MA) Friar Laurence rather takes the
easy way out because he never tries to help Romeo and Juliet reveal to their families their love for

(REWORDING OF MAJOR B) Another terrible decision Friar Laurence makes is when he runs away
from Juliet s tombstone even when she needs him the most. (MINOR 1 FOR MB) Friar Laurence flees
the scene because he hears the watch coming and does not want to them to perceive that he caused the
death of Paris and Romeo. For example, he states, Stay not to question, for the watch is coming. /

Abstract. Conflicts Happen Every Day Of Our Life And Are
Abstract
Conflicts happen every day of our life and are solved through negotiating in some way. Preparation is
one of the most important elements of a negotiation. Negotiations involve preparation, relationships
and getting the other party to see things from your perspective. A divorce negotiation can be difficult
because of the personal and business issues involved. Both parties normally go in expecting to receive
everything that they ask for. A divorce negotiation can be emotional and stressful, especially when it
involves children. This can sometimes bring about complex settlement issues. There is a middle
ground of negotiating for both spouses, meaning they are likely to reach an agreement that they both

neither spouse likes the thought of negotiating.

Separation Agreement
Normally, a separation agreement is the result of mostly discussion and negotiation surrounding the

preparation stages of a divorce or separation, a separation agreement helps both the husband and wife

Primates and Evolution
Primates are animals and to be precise mammals. Primates have a very diverse group and this
means that not all species share the same suit of traits. They have various characteristics such as
hands that can grasp things, large brains, and a high degree of learned rather than innate
behavior, and other numerous traits. Humans are also considered to be primates. The order
Primate is divided into two main suborders and these are the Strepsirhini and Haplorhini.
Strepsirhni includes primates such as lemurs, lorises, and galagoes. On the other hand,
Haplorhini include primates like monkeys, tarsiers, apes, and humans.
The Social Behavior and Structure of Primates
Humans are products of the same evolutionary forces that have produced other species and they
can be expected to exhibit the same behavioral patterns seen in other primates. Even though most
aspects of cultural and social life are uniquely human, the same has been found to be happening
to other non human primates. The only difference between human and non human primates is
that humans have increased brain size as well as learning capacities and this makes them express
many characteristics to a greater degree and culture as well as social life is one of those
characteristics. Cultural and social behavior is not learned and not genetically acquired or
determined even though sometimes it the capacity to learn something is genetically

The Importance of Prison Reform Essay
In this world we live in many feel that prisons exist to punish, not counsel, offenders. That may be true
that Prisons exist for punishment, but they also have an important contribution to make to reducing re
offending by engaging prisoners in rehabilitation programs and purposeful work. Society is flawed in
its thinking that by putting criminals in a place away from society we would be better off. To make it
worse I am sure that more that 60 percent of Americans are against social reform because they have

Prison life can be harsh, and time spent in a isolation is even worse. A majority of those in prison
spend countless hours in idleness. It would be much better if they used that time to reeducate
themselves for a productive life on the outside. Some of the prisoners have serious emotional and
mental problems that are never addressed and it is illogical to not attempt to correct these problems
before they are released.
There are even worse scenarios that exist in today s prisons. The prison guards have little control and
prison can be a violent place because again it is not a place that specializes in rehab. On television
shows you see inmates stabbing each other and are quick to assume that it is a dramatization, but it
really an occurrence that happens often, in prisons all over the world for that matter. In an article by
Raphael Rowe he writes about how a part of him died in prison, and he had to be on his guard
constantly, Once, I was sitting in the television room watching football when someone I knew came in
and told me to leave the room. I didn t ask questions: I just left and stood outside. A few seconds later,
three other guys came running past me, pillow cases with eye holes cut out over their heads, carrying a
huge cooking pot full of hot oil. I heard the screams long before some young black guy a sex offender
came running out, his skin dripping from his face. Such horrid tales should let the general public know
that we need to reevaluate

Brooklyn Bridge Research Paper
The Brooklyn Bridge, designed by German immigrant John Augustus Roebling. The bridge is known
as the first hybrid steel wire suspension bridge. It is one of the superb, oldest and longest bridges ever
built in the world at the time it opened, spanning 1825m across east river connecting the Boroughs of
Manhattan and Brooklyn in NY City. The most noticeable feature of the bridge is the two excessive
towers, the 99 meter limestone granite towers overlook everything in view. The Brooklyn bridge was
named The eight wonders of the world because of its iconic towers and length which have never seen
before. Today, the Brooklyn bridge s towers are the landmark of the NY City and called to be
classified as the national monuments. The Brooklyn bridge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thinking Piece #5
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales: The General Prologue portrays the newly formed social division in
Medieval England by having people from the noble, gentry, church, and working social groups come
together on a journey to the Canterbury Chapel. A modern day American version of this poem would
also include a diverse group of people. The nobility in The Canterbury Tales is represented by the
knight, which Chaucer describes as loving, trouthe and honour, freedom and curteisye (46). Since the
knight is a worthy defender and protector of the people, the modern day equivalent would be our
country s police officers and military. For higher ranking nobility, American ... Show more content on

During the fourteenth century, the control of the church weakened, and the church officials were no
longer seen as nobility. Despite being poor, the parson in The Canterbury Tales displayed a
hardworking and caring demeanor. Chaucer further explains the parson s character by mentioning, that
first he wroughte, and afterward he taught (499). The parson s involvement in society can be mirrored
by not only modern day preachers and church leaders, but by teachers as well. Teachers take the
knowledge from their education and convey this wisdom onto students, much like the parson. The
qualities of today s working class can be seen through Chaucer s depiction of the plowman. Indicating
the importance and humility of the plowman s work, Chaucer establishes his significance in society.
Our farmers, factory workers, and construction workers show the same persistent work ethic as the
plowman, which exemplifies that they are the foundation of the American society. Where class and
social status does not determine acceptability, the Canterbury Chapel is common ground for all the
pilgrims to pray and make what they want out of the experience. A

transmitted to anyone, even through birth. AIDS has killed over 600,000 men and women. Also AIDS
has even killed children. Most cases of AIDS in America there are many people battling with AIDS.
People without AIDS are scared to be around someone with AIDS because they think it is contagious
by contact and do not want to be near someone with AIDS. Most people in America are not aware of

where your body cannot push itself anymore. AIDS is a deadly disease, and since there is not a cure
for AIDS many people have died from it. There are currently millions of people living with AIDS. But
sadly also more than half of a million of them has died from AIDS. Most people are afraid to do
checkups because they afraid to come out positive. If you have had unprotected sex before and you
have the following symptoms: Swollen lymph nodes (lymph glands), Diarrhea, Fever, Cough, and
unintended weight loss you may need to seek medical attention immediately. You are not vulnerable to
AIDS unless you tend to keep doing things that may have you catch it. Also AIDS can be transmitted
through breastfeeding. Such things as saliva and tears do not transmit the disease to others. There is a
thing called antiretroviral treatment which slows down the process of AIDS for whoever may have it.
Doctors say the antiretroviral treatment reduces the risk of death but also is genuinely expensive and
has side effects to it. Another thing that the doctors say is that you can live from up to 6 months all the

Pierre De Fermat Essay
Pierre de Fermat Pierre de Fermat was born in the year 1601 in Beaumont de Lomages, France. Mr.
Fermat s education began in 1631. He was home schooled. Mr. Fermat was a single man through his
life. Pierre de Fermat, like many mathematicians of the early 17th century, found solutions to the four
major problems that created a form of math called calculus. Before Sir Isaac Newton was even born,
Fermat found a method for finding the tangent to a curve. He tried different ways in math to improve
the system. This was his occupation. Mr. Fermat was a good scholar, and amused himself by restoring
the work of Apollonius on plane loci. Mr. Fermat published only a few papers in his lifetime and gave
no systematic exposition of his methods. He had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fermat s proof is as follows. Let n be prime, and suppose it is equal to x2 y2 that is, to (x+y)(x y).
Now, by hypothesis, the only basic, integral factors of n and n and unity, hence x+y=n and x y=1.
Solving these equations we get x=1 /2 (n+1) and y=1 /2(n 1). He gave a proof of the statement made
by Diophantus that the sum of the squares of two numbers cannot be the form of 4n 1. He added a
corollary which I take to mean that it is impossible that the product of a square and a prime form 4n
1[even if multiplied by a number that is prime to the latter], can be either a square or the sum of two
squares. For example, 44 is a multiple of 11(which is of the form 4 x 3 1) by 4, therefore it cannot be
expressed as the sum of two squares. He also stated that a number of the form a2 +b2, where a is
prime b, cannot be divided by a prime of the form 4n 1. Every prime of the form 4n+1 is accurate as
the sum of two squares. This problem was first solved by Euler, who showed that a number of the
form 2(4n+1) can be always showen as the sum of two squares, of course it was Mr. Pierre de Fermat.
If a, b, c, are integers, a2 + b2= c2, then ab cannot be a square. Lagrange solved this. The
determination of a number x such that x2n+1 may be squared, where n is a given integer which is not
squared. Lagrange gave a solution of this also. There is only one integral solution of the equation x2

Frida Kahlo Still Life With Parrot
The artwork, Still Life with Parrot by Frida Kahlo in 1951, is displayed on page 206 of the textbook.
The size of Still Life with Parrot is 24.1 x 26 cm, done on Masonite with oil.
I chose this artwork because it realistically represents the nature objects. Although Kahlo uses
different hues in the artwork, red is the role of color within the artwork. And the choice of red hue
makes the artwork vivid and psychologically arouses my enthusiasm for the artwork. I will present the
subject matter and subjective content. Then, I will figure out the elements and principles of
organization of Still Life with Parrot.
There are many colors using to describe different objects such as a red orange mango, half of orange

And fruits look so fresh because of their glossy surface. When I see the artwork, I regard it with
affection. Because I like the red hue using in the nature object, it gives me a sense of vitality.
The Elements of Art:
Line Kahlo uses Contour lines to limit the edges of fruits and the parrot s outlines. Curve lines are
mostly used in showing the objects shapes. The parrot line of sight is an implied line to show the
direction of its gaze to fruits.
Shape The artwork itself is rectangle. However, all objects such as different kinds of fruits and the
parrot in this painting have organic shapes, so their shapes are irregular.
Value The cast shadows directly show under the objects, so the light source is just above the objects.
The objects colors are affected by the light, their color lighter on the top and darker on the bottom.

Welfare To Work Reform Essay
Societies for years have preached the theory of individual responsibility as the righteous route for it

Moreover, in the United States this is the norm to focus on individual responsibility. However, every
society is faced with the conflict of poverty that requires some type of social welfare policy. Poverty is
not a stranger to the United States and therefore it created program such as welfare to assist the poor.
The welfare system has evolved over the years sometime for the good and others for the bad. In 1996,

The service is generally provided by public sector such as the federal government, which in turn is
dispersed to state government. In some state services are contracted out to private for profit

Bandura s Theory Of The Bobo Doll Experiment
Bobo Doll Experiment
Bandura presented a study to observe if social behaviors (ex. aggression) can be educated by
observation and imitation.
The investigators pre tested the children in what way violent they were, and observing them in the
nursery and considered their aggressive behavior on four 5 point ranking scales.
Milgram study
One of the best well known studies of obedience in psychology was conceded out by Milgram.
Milgram clarified the behavior of his applicants by recommending that people have double states of
behavior when they are in a social situation:
1. The autonomous state: people direct their own actions, and they take responsibility for the results of
those actions.
2. The agentic state: people allow others to direct their actions and then pass off the responsibility for
the consequences to the person giving the orders. In other words, they act as agents for another person

Rfid, An Automated Identification And Data Collection (...
Radio Frequency Identification, or as it is more commonly known, RFID, is an automated
identification and data collection (AIDC) technology. From access cards to passports to toll tags RFID
has now become ubiquitous as an integral part of our daily lives.
RFID is a small electronic device that consist of a small chip and an antenna. The chip typically is
capable of carrying 2,000 bytes of data or less. RFID technology has been available for more than fifty
years. It has only been recently that the ability to manufacture the RFID devices has fallen to the point
where they can be used as a throwaway inventory or control device.
It s been a decade since Wal Mart told its top suppliers that the world s largest retailer would charge a
fee for each pallet of goods they shipped without a radio frequency identification tag to the giant Sam
s Club distribution center in Texas. The bold initiative came at a time when many technology pundits
were touting the long term benefits RFID would provide, not just to Wal Mart but also to its suppliers.
Much like e commerce, hailed during the late 1990s as the death knell of brick and mortar retailing,
RFID systems were oversold as essential and inevitable, despite much corporate resistance.
The hype cycle about RFID climaxed a few years later when it became clear the technology was too
costly and difficult to implement. A decade later, the hype has gone with the wind, but item level
RFID technology is playing a much more important role

Alternative Dispute Resolution ( Adr )
Introduction
Since litigation particularly in High Court is both expensive, time consuming and also the
disadvantage of process being conducted to the public. Different parties with disputes have sought
after other means of dispute resolution which is generally known as alternative dispute resolution
(ADR).
Alternative dispute resolution is basically a way of solving civil dispute. It is the collective term for
the ways that parties settle civil disputes, with the assistance of an autonomous third party and without
the need of a court hearing which often leads to a mutual understanding between both parties. In
situations where mediation does not decide the case, a variety of other options which includes
conciliation, arbitration, adjudication and private judging which is a rare option of ADR. Regardless of
the historic opposition to ADR by many parties and their advocates, ADR has since gained widespread
acceptance among both the public and the legal profession in contemporary years. In addition to this,
courts now advice some parties to resort to ADR which includes mediation before approving the
parties cases to be tried in court. The first practical use of alternative dispute resolution procedures
began in the 1970s as a possible way for the disabling court backlogs and also a way to resolve
environmental and natural resource disputes. In 1985, the Attorney General issued a directive
identifying the need for ADR to drastically reduce the time and cost of litigation.

Analysis Of The Poem Utnapishtim Immortality
Matthew Loper Ms Teresa Wells World Lit 2423 363 September 21, 2015 Utnapishtim Immortality
Utnapishtim was granted immortality for the simple fact that Enlil hated him and wanted to punish
him with eternal life. Utnapishtim was told by Ea that the flood was coming, and he knew that would
be the end of mankind. Utnapishtim said to Ea Your command, my lord, exactly as you said it, I shall
faithfully execute. (pg73 line 33) Ultimately he developed a plan to save himself and the people. His
plan was to construct a huge boat and when the floods came the people would be on the boat and not
be killed. Utnapishtim knew he had to have a plan in order for the construction of the boat to be
completed. He was very smart with his plan and knew how to bring the people together and for the
boat to be finished in time. In order for his plan to work he had to come up with a story to tell his
people. He had to have a believable story so they would follow him and not think he was crazy. He
asked Ea for advice on this matter, and asked what he should tell the people. He was told to tell the
people that Enlil is angry with him and that he must find a new place to live. The story works and the
people stand blindly behind him. For seven days straight Utnapishtim sacrificed a lamb or a bull in a
celebratory manner and the people feasted until the bellies were full. There was also plenty of beer and
wine to keep the people happy. After the 7 days the boat was complete. Enlil wanted to destroy

What Is An Example Of Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Cognitive Dissonance Theory, or CDT for short, is an objective communication theory that was
developed by Leon Festinger. Cognitive Dissonance is defined as The distressing mental state caused
by inconsistency between a person s two beliefs or a belief and an action. (Griffin, Ledbetter, et al).
An example of cognitive dissonance would be a health conscious smoker, this person knows that
smoking is bad for them, but they still smoke because they enjoy it. Their desire to be healthy
conflicts with their smoking, this conflict places them in a distressing mental state, a state of cognitive
dissonance. Festinger provides three hypotheses for CDT: 1.) Selective exposure prevents dissonance.
2.) Post decision dissonance creates need for reassurance. and 3.) Minimal justification for action
induces attitude change.

freedom and democracy more than any nation in the world, this hypothetical situation is becoming
increasingly closer to becoming a reality than some may think. Consolidation and concentration of

It has become increasingly difficult for new ideas to come out in print for this reason. Rifka
Rosenwein reinforces these ideas by stating, Having a few huge corporations control our outlets of
expressions could lead to less aggressive news coverage and a more muted marketplaces of ideas. 2[2]
And that is exactly what is happening, not only in news coverage and the marketplace, but in print
media as well. When large companies dominate the print media of the United States, we are allowing
information to be screened, weeded out, and chosen by these companies, and these companies alone.
In order to further emphasize the amount of power that truly lies within these nine dominating
companies I would like to bring into light the most profitable, AOL Time Warner. Time Warner makes
20 percent of its money from the music business, another 20 percent from the news division
(magazine and book publishing and cable television news), 10 percent from its US cable systems and
the rest from its film, video and television holdings. 3[3] This is an incredible amount. Not only does

Antwone fisher and Personality
Personality is an important part of one character. The first theorist of choice that can explain Antwone
Fisher. Bandura believed that learning was apparent when one was observing another person or
experience (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Through Antwone s actions, it was plausible that he became a
product of what he witnessed and experienced. Antwone displayed certain fears that was based on his
past and the people that he came in contact with. Bandura would say that Antwone went through the
process of observational learning (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Bandura analyzed the nature of
observational learning and found it to be governed by four related mechanisms: attentional processes,
retention processes, production processes, and incentive and motivational processes (Schultz Schultz,
2013, p. 335). First, there are various changing forces that can effect attentional processes (Schultz
Schultz, 2013). According to Bandura, observational learning or modeling will not occur unless the
subject pays attention to the model (Schultz Schultz, 2013). For example, even though Antwone was
not raised by his biological parents, he had several influences in his life. Antwone s foster mother had
a momentous influence on Antwone. Antwone was violent towards him and may have taught him to
be aggressive. However, there are some instances that a model does not always have an impact on an
individual in every area of his or her life (Schultz Schultz, 2013). For instance,

How Does Liesel Use Language In The Book Thief
In the novel The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak, there is a strong presence surrounding words.
I was amazed by this presence through Liesel s relationship to books, the power of words, and
language that is affected by the Holocaust. I was amazed by how Liesel overcomes Hitler s
suppression and teaches others about language and words. The presence of words is shown through
Liesel s relationship to books. We see Liesel develop throughout the novel from a powerless girl to a
more mature, empowered girl, this is, in part, due to her relationship with books. Liesel s first
encounter with a book is just after her brother dies. At this moment, Liesel is powerless, we see this
because she is unable to read the book she picks up. Later in the ... Show more content on

It relied on mass communication to convey its message of hate and to mobilize a nation in its service.
However, The Book Thief focuses on using language to heal, save, and fight against the injustice.
Liesel talks about the power of words in an attempt to provide comfort and distraction. She says His
first plan to attack was to plant words.... He watched them grow, until eventually, great forest of words
had risen throughout Germany.. It was a nation of farmed thoughts. pg. 475. The author sets many
reminders of language within the novel. An example of this is when Liesel and Hans write on the back
of sandpaper and the newspaper becomes imprinted against Hans s skin. Liesel, Hans and Max made a
dictionary on the wall in the basement, writing new words up when they learnt them. This amazes me
because it shows the dedication and will to learn that Liesel has, and passes onto others throughout the
novel. Max s story shows the author s ideas about the power of words by showing that Hitler is
someone who uses language for evil purposes, while Liesel loves language and is able to resist Hitler
through reading and writing her own

Comparison Of Gnosticism In The Truman Show And The Da...
In modern day society, there are several ways in which the belief of Gnosticism is gradually being
circulated throughout our culture. One popular way that Gnostic concepts are being easily dispersed is
through the film industry. In widespread movies such as The Matrix, The Truman Show and The Da
Vinci Code, the presence of underlying Gnostic themes is undeniable. While each of these movies do
not encompass Gnosticism as a whole, there are certain Gnostic themes that are strongly represented
within each of the movies. For example, in The Da Vinci Code there is a huge focus on the existence
of a divine feminine principle just as the Gnostics believe in their religion. This example shown here
is the Gnostic theme that will be focused on the most throughout this essay. By comparing the divine
feminine principle within Gnostic texts with the feminine principle in the film The Da Vinci Code, I
will demonstrate the ways that the feminine principle in The Da Vinci Code relates with the one from
Gnosticism. However, these divine females must first be described ... Show more content on

After being denied the assistance of becoming impregnated by the First Principle, Sophia decided that
she would create offspring on her own. Her plan backfires on her and her offspring ends up stealing
her light and creating the material world that we humans reside in today. This creator of the material
world is known as Ialtabaoth (Layton, Page 36). Now Sophia s central purpose is to descend down to
the material world that her damaged offspring created and remind the people of this world that the
spiritual world is our real home. This process is what the Gnostics call enlightenment and this is the
only way to achieve true acquaintance with the spiritual realm. Sophia is the savior who bridges the
gap between the human ignorance and the Gnostic truth. She is the only hope for revealing the
supposed spiritual

Essay about To Belong Not Necessarily to Identify
TO BELONG IS NOT NECESSARILY TO IDENTIFY WITH IT
In our social life, each person has one s own roles and responsibilities, attitudes and values. Since
every individual is unique and distinct compared to one another, these elements that construct our
individuality are not always similar. Similarities and reflection of our values make us belong to a
group, but the differences are barriers that stop ourselves from being recognized as an indivisible part
of it. Belonging and identity are inseparable; nonetheless, there are distinctions that create a world of
difference between the two. Belonging is not only about to whom we incorporate ourselves the way
we perceive it, but also how others recognize our relationship with that group. ... Show more content

In the absolute core of one s consciousness, a person knows into which groups one belongs naturally.
However, one s conscience is able to judge matters, determine values and set goals. Since, our
thoughts and behaviour are governed, partly if not completely, by our own conscience, our approach
to matters that related to belonging is heavily influenced by our conscience. Therefore, when an
individual denies one s relationship with a particular tribe, an individual s behaviour will reflect to the
refusal to recognise the connection with that party. Hence, we can technically belong without having
an intimate connection. This is situation can be regarded as a surface belonging ; while others
recognise one s belonging, it is denied by oneself. An example of this case can be seen in a stage play
titled Bombshells by Joanna Murray Smith, in the monologue of Meryl Louise Davenport. Meryl
constantly endeavours to fulfil her responsibilities as a mother and valuable member of society.
However, her attempts to live up to these expectations force her to abandon herself. She does however,
keeps her responsibilities. She refuses to belong to a tribe of women who just throw themselves
together , despite her current state of being unable to take care of herself properly. On the surface, she
belongs to the good mothers , or so others perceive it. However,

More men are living with and dying of Coronary Heart Disesse (CHD) than women and have more hospital discharges for Cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) and CHD. The prevalence of CHD is higher in men within each age stratum until after 75 years of age, which may contribute to the perception that heart disease is a man s disease. The classic risk factors for CVD are the same in women and men, but there are gender differences in the prevalence of risk factors. • 5. Essay on Causes Of The Pelopenesian War The Causes of the Peloponessian War Ancient Greece during the 4th century B.C. was home to the city states of Sparta and Athens. These two communities were the superpowers of the region during that time. The peloponnesian war between these two states evolved out of a string of events that would lead to years of conflict. When looking for a single cause of the peloponnesian war none can be found. Over time many events contributed to the eventual war between Sparta and Athens. I believe the peloponnesian war evolved because of Athenian support for Spartan enemies, Spartan alarm at a rise in Athenian power, and the drastic differences between the two cultures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Spartans were not eager for war. After the Persian wars there was a development of Athenian control over the commercial and economic life of Greece. This growth was caused by the Persian wars themselves. Athens faced a mighty foe in Persia and therefore formed the Delian League. This league was an alliance of cities based around Athens. Each city contributed funds to the construction and maintenance of a vast navy for use against the Persian threat. After the wars Athens dominated the Delian league and declared the contributions from each city mandatory even though the Persian menace was gone. Over time these allied cities came under direct Athenian control and the Athenian Empire began to grow. The large navy was still maintained after the war and Athens, already a naval power in the region tightened its grip on the neighboring waters including those that surrounded the peloponnese. This had the effect of enclosing Sparta s peninsula in a blanket of Athenian naval power. To the Spartans this development was one of considerable worry. The historian Thucydides wrote; The growth of the power of Athens, and the alarm which this inspired (in Sparta), made war inevitable. This comment validates the seriousness of Spartan worry and its contribution to the sparking of the peloponnesian war. Sparta s geography left it vulnerable in some ways. The ... • 7. Consequences Of Marriage And Wedding Scenes In The Deer... One of several 1978 films dealing with the Vietnam War is The Deer Hunters an old movie which the audience can notice at the beginning. The two principal events are the wedding and the deer hunt, this movie opens with an Italian celebration wedding, which is very unusual for today s wedding. They have distinct cultures and it is very emotive. The wedding reception celebrates both marriage and enlistment. The reception takes place in a Veteran s Hall, enlistment overwhelms the wedding in ultimate significance, and the principal females (e.g., Linda) are clearly at the mercy of males. When the deer hunt replaces the wedding, the domination of female by the male, love by war, is complete. In the wedding scene, the director plays a long scene, even overlong, which in today s cinema would be edited significantly to get to the action. But this long sequence sets the scene by introducing the characters and showing us in their natural habitat. Without this, we would not know them or care for them as much. The second even is the hunter, As the hunt takes over, human relations become more and more dissociative. Not only do the hunters leave women behind, they split from the community of Clairton. Unfortunately, when the design of an exhibition gallery negatively affects a viewer, a disservice is done to the artists and culture of the artworks on view. The Wine Flask, whose creator is unknown, fits in with warm color scheme and dates back around the same time as the rest of the exhibition, however it has a known origin of Japan. Entering the gallery from the main corridor, the patron has two openings to choose from, one on the left and one on the right, due to the placement of a single white vista wall. To view each artwork within the exhibition and exit into the next gallery, the viewer is forced to travel the same path they came at least once. Having an undefined pathway in the layout of this gallery leads to further issues in the exhibition. The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to the bell was considered the conditional response. B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning. Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive (which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable outcomes). Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think. Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information processor. Primates have a very diverse group and this means that not all species share the same suit of traits. They have various characteristics such as hands that can grasp things, large brains, and a high degree of learned rather than innate behavior, and other numerous traits. Humans are also considered to be primates. The order Primate is divided into two main suborders and these are the Strepsirhini and Haplorhini. Strepsirhni includes primates such as lemurs, lorises, and galagoes. On the other hand, Haplorhini include primates like monkeys, tarsiers, apes, and humans. The Social Behavior and Structure of Primates Humans are products of the same evolutionary forces that have produced other species and they can be expected to exhibit the same behavioral patterns seen in other primates. Even though most aspects of cultural and social life are uniquely human, the same has been found to be happening to other non human primates. Solving these equations we get x=1 /2 (n+1) and y=1 /2(n 1). He gave a proof of the statement made by Diophantus that the sum of the squares of two numbers cannot be the form of 4n 1. He added a corollary which I take to mean that it is impossible that the product of a square and a prime form 4n 1[even if multiplied by a number that is prime to the latter], can be either a square or the sum of two squares. For example, 44 is a multiple of 11(which is of the form 4 x 3 1) by 4, therefore it cannot be expressed as the sum of two squares. He also stated that a number of the form a2 +b2, where a is prime b, cannot be divided by a prime of the form 4n 1. Every prime of the form 4n+1 is accurate as the sum of two squares. The investigators pre tested the children in what way violent they were, and observing them in the nursery and considered their aggressive behavior on four 5 point ranking scales. Milgram study One of the best well known studies of obedience in psychology was conceded out by Milgram. Milgram clarified the behavior of his applicants by recommending that people have double states of behavior when they are in a social situation: 1. The autonomous state: people direct their own actions, and they take responsibility for the results of those actions. 2. It s been a decade since Wal Mart told its top suppliers that the world s largest retailer would charge a fee for each pallet of goods they shipped without a radio frequency identification tag to the giant Sam s Club distribution center in Texas. The bold initiative came at a time when many technology pundits were touting the long term benefits RFID would provide, not just to Wal Mart but also to its suppliers. Much like e commerce, hailed during the late 1990s as the death knell of brick and mortar retailing, RFID systems were oversold as essential and inevitable, despite much corporate resistance. Cognitive Dissonance is defined as The distressing mental state caused by inconsistency between a person s two beliefs or a belief and an action. (Griffin, Ledbetter, et al). An example of cognitive dissonance would be a health conscious smoker, this person knows that smoking is bad for them, but they still smoke because they enjoy it. Their desire to be healthy conflicts with their smoking, this conflict places them in a distressing mental state, a state of cognitive dissonance. Festinger provides three hypotheses for CDT: 1.) Bandura believed that learning was apparent when one was observing another person or experience (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Through Antwone s actions, it was plausible that he became a product of what he witnessed and experienced. Antwone displayed certain fears that was based on his past and the people that he came in contact with. Bandura would say that Antwone went through the process of observational learning (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Bandura analyzed the nature of observational learning and found it to be governed by four related mechanisms: attentional processes, retention processes, production processes, and incentive and motivational processes (Schultz Schultz, 2013, p. 335). First, there are various changing forces that can effect attentional processes (Schultz Schultz, 2013). According to Bandura, observational learning or modeling will not occur unless the subject pays attention to the model (Schultz Schultz, 2013). For example, even though Antwone was not raised by his biological parents, he had several influences in his life. Antwone s foster mother had a momentous influence on Antwone. Antwone was violent towards him and may have taught him to be aggressive. Since every individual is unique and distinct compared to one another, these elements that construct our individuality are not always similar. Similarities and reflection of our values make us belong to a group, but the differences are barriers that stop ourselves from being recognized as an indivisible part of it. In the absolute core of one s consciousness, a person knows into which groups one belongs naturally. However, one s conscience is able to judge matters, determine values and set goals. Since, our thoughts and behaviour are governed, partly if not completely, by our own conscience, our approach to matters that related to belonging is heavily influenced by our conscience. Therefore, when an individual denies one s relationship with a particular tribe, an individual s behaviour will reflect to the refusal to recognise the connection with that party. Hence, we can technically belong without having an intimate connection. This is situation can be regarded as a surface belonging ; while others recognise one s belonging, it is denied by oneself.
