Perhaps the most important component of a GIS is in the part of data used in GIS. The data for GIS can be derived from various sources. A wide variety of data sources exist for both spatial and attribute data.
The urban transportation systems are very complex in nature, they combine different modes of transportation over a limited space in high density areas with increasing transport demand.
With variety of information needed in the field of Transportation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is used as a valuable tool for the representation and analysis of transportation systems.
GIS systems enable the electronic management of spatial data and facilitate its visualisation; they are specialised forms of information systems that are conceived solely for use with spatial data. Their purpose is the collection, modelling, storage, manipulation, analysis, retrieval and presentation of geodata. During the Smart Cities Project we examined the geobased services that were being used by the project’s six municipal partners. This guide provides a detailed review of the systems that are being used by two of these partners – the City of Edinburgh Council in Scotland, and Kristiansand Kommune in Norway – who had the most advanced geobased infrastructures in the Smart Cities partnership.

A low cost method of real time pavement condition data sharing to expedite maintenance intervention
Pavements for roads in cities and highways are degraded with potholes, cracking, and rutting distresses. There is a strong need to identify these locations and sections with undesired longitudinal roughness quickly and accurately every year. Traditionally, expensive standalone survey vehicles for roughness measurements and more expensive multi-function vehicles are employed by highway agencies or through contract services, which most cities and local agencies can’t afford. The primary objective of this study is to describe a low cost method to collect essential pavement condition data and share real time to expedite maintenance intervention needs. This facilitates rapid identification of pavement sections with undesired longitudinal roughness and local defects. This paper discusses the impact of social media, crowd sourcing, and advances in cheaper accurate motion sensors and cloud server data processing. These tools make it possible to develop easy-to-use low cost methods, which are affordable by city public work and smaller road agencies.

An urban transportation system is crucial to a city's overall development. Having an effective transportation system is crucial to raising the standard of living in urban areas. Effective utilization is crucial due to the transportation network's enormous development costs. Reaching optimal utilization necessitates appropriate connectivity and orientation. Urbanization has led to massive population growth and related activities in many developing countries. Inadequate transportation options and associated travel problems are the result of this. Therefore, developing ways to increase the transport network's efficiency requires a parameter-based evaluation of the network. It involves determining the variables that affect travel as well as the instruments and methods for defining urban features including the land use and transportation system. Research gaps are determined using the literature review as a guide. By recognizing the influences of land use on networks, networks on land use, networks on travel, and once again, networks on travel, the current study offers a paradigm for developing urban transportation networks. Information about land use, zonal boundaries, and the road network was gathered from the appropriate organizations. GIS was used to convert these to digital format.

This white paper presents a spatial decision support system (SDSS) aimed at generating optimized vehicles routes for multiple vehicles routing problems that involves serving the demand located at nodes of a transportation network. Therefore, in this research using location awareness applications installed in mobile devices, data related to user mobility were collected by using crowdsourcing techniques and studied. Based on these observations an algorithm has been developed to overcome the problem. By using this, the best transportation method can be predicted as the results of the research. Therefore, people can choose what will be the best time slots & transportation methods when planning journeys. Throughout this research it has been proven that for the Sri Lankan context, the data mining concepts together with crowdsourcing can be applied to determine the best transportation method.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.

Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. Improvement in Transit Service using GIS – Case study of
Bhavnagar, Gujarat
METHODOLOGY ADOPTED
The main goal of this study was to use GIS network analysis
techniques to optimise the transport service in the State
Transport Depot-Bhavnagar District region.
• Impedance value has been assigned to different turn at
the intersection of the road.
• Following the input of all data into the GIS, the lengths of
49 distinct routes received from the GIS and the length
information gathered from the S.T. Department of
Bhavnagar were compared.

• It was found that transportation agencies own numerous datasets.
Often, these datasets have diverse origins in individual divisions,
lack common location reference schemes, and suffer from poor
data definition and lineage tracking making their integration
difficult.
• As data integration evolve, the value for GIS increases likewise.
