The Issue Of Political Corruption
The issue of political corruption is as persistent as it is prevalent; that is to say, it exists
ambiguously, politically, and in undefined terms. Generally, political corruption is understood to
mean a breach of the public trust in the course of a politician s duties (Huigens 2010). In any
democracy that is truly for the people by the people, it should be easy to weed out the corrupt
politicians. That said, the corruption of any one politician does not always translate to a different
election outcome and some electors may benefit from a corrupt representative (Ionescu 2013). This
is because of the ambiguous and political environment in which political corruptionoccurs. Since
politicians have the power to create laws, they do not willingly create laws that criminalize their
actions. This has led for the expansion of honest services mail fraud by the courts to include
politicians actions (Huigens 2010). However, the courts have not always been consistent.
Sometimes actions of the courts create strain on a politician such that they could not get elected
without first getting corrupted (Issacharoff 2010). This process has the effect of shifting
representatives power from the people to corporations (Evertsson 2013). Still, with a high profile
enough case, a corrupt politician can be outrooted by the ballot box (Ionescu 2015). However,
organizational deviance has a causal effect on relevant actors (Tatham 2016) especially when the
issue is as widespread as Mr. Silver

American Women In The 1970 s
I think it is important to take time and actually think about all of the advancements women have
made. If you think about it we would not have some of the things we have today due to the
women in past standing up for they believe in. There is a quote that I cannot remember off the
top of my head, but I know that it is along the lines of saying a woman in general is powerful, but
once she realizes how truly powerful she is, you better watch out. Like Mary Richards, American
women in the 1970s were figuring out how to use their new powers to craft a good life (Collins
241). This quote is amazing because there are so many women that do not see their potential.
Everything is just a matter of you can do anything you put your mind to and it was not until the
1970 s that women were starting to come around to see what they were truly capable of.
I wonder what it was like back then to be the epitome of a great athlete and still not be taken
seriously. Not only could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I sincerely mean that when I say I did not know. The fact that in 1974 Congress passed a ban on
sex discrimination is actually just surprising because I never realized that women were
discriminated this severely. Just by reading I was almost felt as if I was being offended by
Sylvia Peterson s client. To me it sounds like people just did not have a filter. Her client said to
her when she asked why she was given the cold shoulder after buying a house, Well, you bought
this house, her client retorted. You can t buy a house without being married (Collins 251). How
about we stop jumping to conclusions? I have gotten a sense that this book is just full of conclusion
jumpers. For example, women are just automatically bad at sports and if you did this then that
means you did that. I think it is pretty sad actually that Sylvia was not even able to buy herself a
house without getting attacked, even after doing nothing

MS-13 Violence Case Study
The biggest challenge facing my agency is the resurgence of violence by members of the
transnational gang, MS 13. Beginning in January 2016, members of MS 13 committed seventeen
murders over a sixteen month period in the communities of Brentwood and Central Islip. The
unprecedented violence has led to fear in the community. In September 2016, 15 year old Nisa
Mickens and 16 year old Kayla Cuevas were murdered while walking near their homes. The girls
were so badly beaten they were barely recognizable. The murderers used bats and machetes to
brutalize the girls. The investigation concluded with the indictment of thirteen members of MS 13
for the murders of seven people including the two young girls. Several of those indicted were

Strategic Bombing During World War II
World War II began September 1, 1939, the day after Germany invaded neutral Poland. Great
Britain and France declared war on Germany the two days after the invasion. Throughout the war
the bombing of major cities was practiced by both the allies and axis powers. The British and
Americans came up with a more accurate and effective bombing tactics. This tactic is called
strategic bombing . Strategic bombing was sustained aerial attack on railways, harbours, cities,
workers housing, and industrial districts in enemy territory The United Statesand Britain had
justified reasons for the aerial bombings of German and Japanese cities as they were trying to
protect their people from a ruthless dictator. Before the British began bombing the Germans... Show

These bombing had no purpose except to terrorize Japan into surrendering. The bombings took
place towards the ending months of WWII and had killed about 100,000 people and wiped out
about half the city. The US military had waited for a clear and windy night to inflict maximum
damage, and on March 9, 1945 the conditions were perfect. Three hundred B29 bombers dropped
nearly 500,000 cylinders of napalm and petroleum jelly on the most densely populated areas of
Tokyo (Carney). This raid also known as Operation Meetinghouse is considered the most
destructive bombing ever. If the Allies had lost the war they would have had severe repercussions
and would have been charged with war

some of the key criteria for hotels. Hilton already has a strong presence in the U.S and is

Neocortex Cell Types
The density of the cell types of the neocortex is varied from layer to layer. The main types of cells
in the cerebral cortex are the pyramidal, granular and fusiform neurons. Martinotti and horizontal
type cells are fewer than others.
Molecular layer I is, also called plexiform layer, located closest to the pial surface of the brain. This
layer has few neuron bodies. It contains many nuclei which belong to glia cells, myelinated fibers
and few neurons of granular and horizontal neurons of Cajal. It consists almost all axonal and
dendritic branching.
External granular layer II is known as an outer granular layer, contains small granular(Golgi type
II cells) and pyramidal neurons. Granular type neurons divided into two distinct types. One is
Golgi type II. It has short axons that reach close to neuron body. The Golgi type I has long axons
that reach far from the body. Its axons go up to the cortical surface where it can make various
axonal and dendritic connections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Alternatives to Incarceration Essay
Alternatives to Incarceration
Ever since the first prison opened in the United States in 1790, incarceration has been the center of
the nations criminal justice system. Over this 200 year period many creative alternatives to
incarceration have been tried, and many at a much lower cost than imprisonment. It wasn t until the
late 1980 s when our criminal justice systems across the country began experiencing a problem with
overcrowding of facilities. This problem forced lawmakers to develop new options for sentencing
criminal offenders. Unlike jail or prisons, which create an expensive cycle of violence and crime,
these alternatives actually prevent violence and strengthen communities. Community corrections

Some of the conditions may be a requirement for employment, school, or community service hours.
These conditions must be met to satisfy the sanction, if they are not met the offender would be in
violation and sent to jail or prison. Another commonly used alternative is house arrest and
confinement. This sanction restricts an individual to his or her residence for specific periods of
time; in most house arrest programs offenders are allowed to leave their homes only for
employment, medical needs, or mandated assignments such as community service or school. The
emphasis of this program is on confinement, and the supervising officers role is to ensure that the
offender stays confined at home. There are three different levels of home confinement, each with a
different degree of restricted freedom. The first is curfew which requires offenders to be in their
residence during limited, specific hours, generally at night. The offender s movements outside of
the curfew hours are unregulated. The second is home detention that requires offenders to remain at
home at all times except for employment, education, treatment, or other pre approved activities.
This program may be with the assisted with electronic monitoring. The last level is home

Principles of Executive Leadership
November 12, 2011
Leaders who desire to understand why and how people behave the way they do in the workplace
must challenge his or her self to first develop an understanding of how people in an organization
should be lead. To develop this understanding a leader can approach this subject by seeking to
answer the question, Should people be lead like they are machines or organisms? Whichever side
is taken to answer this question would significantly affect an individual s ability to lead others.
From an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because an individual s genes and memes are so unique each adult person develops characteristics
that differentiate them from others. These individual characteristics affect human behavior and can
be controlled like machines. One single machine can be reproduced a thousand times and each
one will perform exactly like the other. This is not true for people. As concluded by Edward
Deci, humans that are controlled like machines act without a sense of personal endorsement ,
thus becoming alienated [ (Clawson, 2009) ]. Leaders must understand people at the level of
their core memes in order to get them to perform at their maximum potential in the workplace.
Similarities and dissimilarities affecting human behavior is another factor that prove that people
ought to be lead like organisms instead of machines. It is important for leaders to understand
that while it is true for people to be very similar in some way but at the same time every person is
unlike every other person [ (Clawson, 2009) ]. As stated previously, one single machine can
perform and behave exactly like one thousand others because they are programmed to do so. This
is not the case for organisms, such as people. In the textbook, Executive Leadership in the
Workplace, the author suggested that there are seven levels of human similarity and dissimilarity
that ultimately affect why people behave the way they do. The seven levels are humankind,
regional culture, national culture,

Comparison Between Factory And The Factory
The two different worlds the factory and the academy
David Lodge presents the two main characters namely Vic Wilcox ,not actually a religious man and
Robyn Penrose the opposite, a bright woman , a lecturer and a feminist. The two realize that they
complete themselves and they end up being in a relationship.
The novel is a contemporary novel . The author presents Robyn as a woman not that clever that
she thinks she is. She is not as smart as she want to be and that is why she is unable to feel or to
understand what true love means . That is why she had an affair with Charles.
Nice work deals with two different things the industrial world and the academic world. Those two

Hate Groups Research Paper
There is so much hate in this world. To add onto that hate, there are many hate groups. The hate
group that I am writing about is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Another name for this
group is Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). ISIS and ISIL are the same group. This group is
made up of Islamic extremists who believe the world should be under Sharia Law. Sharia Law
means, One political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications
to belong to this group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace
back to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States
invaded Iraq, Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq.
After Zarqawi s death his followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq.
In 2003 the Islamic State renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is
using propaganda to recruit Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have
no connection to ISIS, or Syria at all. There is no initiation process to join ISIS. One just has to
be willing to commit acts of terror, and be a cold blooded killer. To be recruited one must find a
Jihadi mentor. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Observation Of A Piglet
On September 10th 2017 Mr. Striker placed out 10 dead baby piglets in the body farm at Wabash
Heartland Career Center. The piglets all had different factors and the piglets where all still born.
Before the body farm even started we wrote theories on questions that we were given and what
we would think would happen to each piglet in different factors. We started observing these
piglets on September 11th 2017. We observed these piglets for three weeks until mostly all of the
piglets where decomposed all the way to bones. The piglet that was burned (piglet 2) was the
one to decompose the fastest out of the natural state piglet in the grass (piglet 1) and a buried
piglet (piglet 10). My initial thought was correct that piglet 2 would decompose fastest due to
less skin for the bugs to get through the skin and get inside of the piglet. Piglet 2 decomposed on
day 9 it was completely bones with no skin or flesh left on the bones due to maggots and other
insects. Piglet 1 still had maggots on its legs on day 9 and was decomposed on day 11 with only
bones left. The piglet 10 still has not been completely decomposed on day 15. The speed of
decompositionis different when the piglet is naked on the black top (piglet6) or a clothed piglet
on black top (piglet 7). My initial thought was that piglet 6 would decompose faster because there
would be one less layer to get through than on piglet 7. I was correct that the piglet 6 did
decompose faster than piglet 7. However the clothes

Culture In Honey Bee
Culture is something a person takes in with his first breath. It is an integral part of the society
which is learned and shared in a society by its members. A culture is built of the ideas, values and
behaviors that the society entertains along with the food it eats, the dress it wears and the
language it speaks. Culture differs along with the geographical variations and across the timeline.
For that precise reason, we, around the globe has a hold on an assorted mixture of different
cultures. Though greatly varied from place to place and time to time, all the elements of a culture

In 2014, he decided to take on Erislandy Lara against his team s wishes and common sense. Lara
was a skilled boxer that was feared by most people in the junior middleweight division, but
Alvarez decided to take him on to prove he wasn t afraid to take a step up in competition.
As you all know, that fight didn t help Alvarez in the eyes of the public. He beat Lara in a close
fight, but that wasn t enough for the boxing community. Instead of being applauded for winning
a close fight with someone he could ve easily avoided, the dominant storyline was that Lara was
robbed. Yes, there was the ridiculous 117 111 score, but the fight was close enough for Alvarez to
get the nod. Nevertheless, the boxing community couldn t come to grips with the fact that a close
fight doesn t equal a robbery, so Alvarez didn t get the amount of praise Golovkin got in his recent

The weirdest part of all of this is how the networks and media treat Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez is

Japanese atrocities or an attempt to destroy the traces of Japanese atrocities perpetuated in the

THE ULTIMATE GARLIC SUPPLEMENT ALLICIN
The chemistry of garlic is extremely complex, but research has shown that it is the unusual organ
sulfur compounds relatively unique to garlic that promote its broad range of lipid lowering,
antithrombotic, anti blood coagulation, anti hypertension, anti cancer, anti oxidant and anti
microbial effect. The most well known and widely studied garlic compound is allicin , yet
ironically allicin does not exist in fresh, undamaged garlic cloves. The predominant garlic sulfur
compound is Alliin. Garlic also contains high levels of an enzyme called allinase. Cavallito and
Bailey first reported in 1944 that allicin is the garlic compound chiefly responsible for the broad
spectrum anti bacterial action of garlic. They noted that various actions of garlic, such as its
cholesterol lowering and anti bacterial effect are primarily due to its allicin content.
ALLIIN
Alliin is a sulfoxide that is a natural constituent of fresh garlic. It is a derivative of the amino
acid cysteins. When fresh garlic is chopped or crushed, the enzyme allinase converts alliin into
allicin which is primarily responsible for the aroma of fresh garlic. Garlic has been used since
antiquity as a therapeutic remedy for a certain conditions now associated w/ oxygen toxicity, and
when this was investigated, garlic did indeed show strong anti oxidant and hydroxyladical
scavenging properties, possibly owing to the alliin

An Analysis Of Salvador Dali s The Persistence Of Memory 1931
THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY (1931)
The Persistence of Memory (1931) was made in 1931 by Salvador Dali, the artwork is 24 x 33
cm oil on canvas painting, and now the artwork is in The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
The style of the artwork is surrealistic. The subject matter is a barren landscape with melting
clocks draped over unrelated objects, caricature of Dali s face on the ground, plus a rocky
headland with sea in the background. The focal point of the artwork is the strange caricature of
Dali s profile, complete with eyelashes, tongue and nose. This is because it is so light amongst dark
surrounding shadows on the ground.

mysterious shadowy atmosphere in the unusual foreground objects, which is balanced by the
lighter landscape areas in the horizon.
There are some lines been used in the artwork, which is thin, straight and neat. Dali used very
thin and detailed lines particularly on the foreground object such as the numbers on the clocks
and the eyelashes on his caricature s eye. He also used some shapes which is definite, geometric,
organic and detailed. Dali has created definite and detailed looking shapes. He has contrasted the
organic shapes of the boxes on the left hand side of the composition. There is a very strong tonal
contrast between the darker foreground, and the lighter background areas of the landscape. This
contrast creates the effect of visual interest in the composition. And the surface of the artwork is
smooth. Any texture left on this canvas would be implied to represent rougher areas, such as in the
rocks and ants. Dali took extreme care to ensure that his brush strokes were smooth and invisible to

associated with the model. This aspect provides meshing of the HPM with the concept of self
actualization.
Basic needs must be met before the client aspires to higher levels of self actualization. These
modifying components are suggested to indirectly affect health behaviors; however, cognitive
perceptual factors are the primary motivating mechanisms for acquisition and maintenance of health
promoting behaviors. Because Pender focused more on achievement of higher levels of well being
and self actualization, we can say that through implementation of feeding program achievement of
stable nutritional health status of the students of Obrero Elementary School will be possible. We
have viewed this theory in relevance to our study because we believe that through proper and
constant feeding, nutritional health status of the students of Obrero Elementary School will be

Ernesto Quinonez s The Conversation Through Storytelling...
Ernesto Quinonez s novel is very influential and gives insight into the harsh reality of being a
minority in America. Quinonez also speaks on the history of the Latino culture and the life
experiences. The fabricated stories based on true events, affected Latinos as well as other
nationalities. This book has served its purpose and is speaking to families, friends, wives, husbands,
and children on being aware and conscious of the reality that surrounds them. This novel amazed
me with the political and historical content surrounding the Latino community, and it is extremely
powerful as it shows independence in its own culture. The novel uses its content to bring awareness
of Latino ethnic identity, their way of life, and defines social factors from within. (Barajas 2014)
Ernesto Quinonez sparks the conversation through storytelling using testimonials that transcends to
others, guiding their natives through these circumstances and strengthening their communities.
Other Latino writers, such as Cornell West and Susan Willis (both Latino writers), used their
literature as a platform to showcase the uniqueness of Latino ethnicity in the United States as well as
expose the division between Puerto Ricans and Americanized Puerto Ricans. (Barajas 2014)
The novel shows equality and gives the reader information on hardships experienced by Latinos
without a show of feelings or complaint. When reading the novel, I found it interesting to read that
Puerto Ricans are exiled and I found it

Ali Amin Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison Case Study
Should A 17 Year Old Teen Ali Amin Be Sentenced To 11 Years in Prison?
17 year old in Virginia by the name of Ali Amin was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison
because of his support of the terrorist group ISIS. He ran a pro ISIS twitter account and helped
an 18 year old friend escape to Syria to help ISIS battle militants and rebels. Amin, who peaded
guilty in June to conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, tweeted approximately 7,000
times from the apparently pro ISIS account @AmreekiWitness which had more than 4,000
followers, and has since been suspended. He also introduced his friend Reza Niknesad to ISIS
members online and helped the 18 year old travel and join the militia in Syria. (The Washington

Ali is clearly pro ISIS and his actions were clearly wrong, but should the court be sentencing Ali
for 11 years? The first amendment clearly states Congress should make no law respecting an
establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridge the freedom of
speech, or the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances. The major crime was when Ali helped his friend to go to
Syria. Having a twitter account that supports ISIS is not a wrongdoing. It is loathsome, but other
groups such as the KKK or the American Nazi Party are loathsome as well, but not targeted by the
authorities. The key to this part of the case is the fact that the teen provided materialistic support by

Erick Erickson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Theory Erick Erickson (1950,1963) proposed to a psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial
development comprising eight stages from infancy to adult with each stage a person will
experience some sort of psychosocial experience that may have a negative or positive outcome
for their personal development. The psychosocial have eight stages each stage are depending the
age of the child. The stages are; trust vs mistrust this is the infancy stage at this stage the infant
is uncertain about the world they live in to end the feeling of uncertainty the infant looks upon
their primary care giver for stability, autonomy vs shame this is the early child hood stage
children who complete this stage successfully leave feeling secure and confident in themselves
while for those who do not are left with a sense of shame and doubt of self, initiative vs guilt
play age children display curiosity about the world, and begin to assert their power and contract
of the world through direct play and social interaction they also feel a sense of guilt when they
take a negative initiative and are punished, industry vs inferiority the school age if a child is
praised for doing their best and encouraged to finish task then industry may result, while the child
who ant master their school work may think of themselves as a failure and feeling inferiority may
arise, identity vs role confusion the adolescence stage this is the main stage and most important
development task for adolescents are to constructer their own unique sense of identity and find the
social environment where they can belong to and have meaningful relationship( Chen, Lay Wu,
Yao, 2007), intimacy vs isolation young adult, adults who successful in resolving the conflict of
this stage are able to develop deep meaningful relationship with others while adults who struggles
with this stage experience poor relationship ( Cherry, Gans), generative vs stagnation adulthood
stage failing to achieve this stage they become stagnant and feel unproductive while success in it

Effects of Capitalism on Production Conservation of Nature
Sankalp Gupta
7th May 2015
ARCH 596: Seminar on the Built Environment II: Landscape and Society
Dr. Ross E Adams
Abstract
The report will be primarily focused on the influence of capitalism on production and conservation
of nature. From being individuals dependent upon nature humans have become forces which
manipulate and effect nature. Besides this, the very fact that we use the term resource for nature
represents that humans have developed the habit of considering nature as a commodity. The idea of
commodification of nature has been explored in this report through the texts of Karl Marx, Neil
Smith and Noel Castree. This report also tries to investigate ... Show more content on

The relation between efforts to isolate and conserve nature and fear of uncertain future was also
a topic worth exploring through the above mentioned projects. In discussing this relation the
analogy between the current scenario and the effort from the 70 s onward to conserve fauna
through zoos, due an impending fear of loss of species has been examined. Another crucial aspect
of these projects was the displacement of land and tress from their natural habitat to the artificial
biomes. Movement of large amount of fertile soil and trees from their native place to an alien
place and calling it a conservational phenomenon seems paradoxical and requires further analysis.
The idea of colonizing space as a future prospect has been explored particularly with reference to
Biosphere 2 a comparison between the present responses to the crisis and relevant responses which
have been proposed but not implemented has also been discussed in this report. To sum up this
report analyzes the political and capitalistic motives behind the conservational projects which are
resulting from climate crisis. Climate change has started affecting us by and large. The frequency
of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods etc. is increasing day by day. We have arrived at a
moment of grave danger as confirmed by many environmental scientists. Experts on climate crisis
still say that we have the time to avert the worst impacts of climate change and set up a successful

example somebody might have weight problems because they overeat, do not exercise enough,

healthy, and exercise frequently. Even though it might be difficult to manage your weight it is
still possible. If Americans do not take action about this issue of America s weight problems

Harry James Motivation
As soon as 1939 when he had joined Harry James music makers, a frenzy of female fans ensued.
Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction
of fans after Frank s first performance with James; After the first show, the screaming started in
the theater, and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it
was real, it was not a gimmick (Kaplan 76). The biggest height of the hysteria had to have been
in October of 1944: the Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra s fans, many
of which were teenage girls nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount
Theatre in Times Square (Doyle). The amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands
more waited outside for shows later on in the day. However, only a few hundred would leave
from the previous shows causing a frenzy to ensue outside; over 400 people from the police
department were stationed for the day s chaotic events (Kaplan 227).
There was obviously a strong passion within Sinatra s early fan base. This could be a result of an
intimate connection Frank emitted to them. Writer Francis Davis ... Show more content on

The Tyranny Of White Majority Essay
The United States, even though considered the land of freedom, has been struggling with lingering
racism and discrimination throughout the 19th and 20th century. Democratic reform throughout the
century were implanted to eliminate the tyranny of the white majority Yet many scholars like
Tocqueville, Fredrick Harris and WEB DuBois have challenged these results. The reality is that the
tyranny of white majority has continued throughout the 18th to the 21st century resulting in a
society that has suppressed and constantly failed to integrate African Americaninto the white society
by neglecting the race, using natural prejudice, race neutral policies, and laws that benefited whites
more than African Americans.
Even before the 13th amendment and emancipation of slaves, small reforms in the northern
states were being implemented to create a true free society. One would argue that these reforms
were the first steps of a liberal reform that would lead to the eventual equality amongst the two
races but what is forgotten is that even though reforms were passed the white majority had a
natural prejudice. Tocqueville explains what makes the natural prejudice was the disgrace the
African American ethnicity received by being forced as slaves. This slavery was based on race
rather than being like ancient slavery which had nothing to do the face of a person (PG 400). The
African Americans who were considered free during the that were still disgraced because as
Tocqueville said free

Linguistic Relativity Essay
Introduction:
Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes, and is often
referred to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who brought the idea into the
spotlight. Whorf writes how Language is not merely a reproducing instrument for voicing ideas
but rather is itself the shaper of ideas, the program and guide for the individual s mental activity
(1956:212), and I will explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of
mental categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the characteristics of
our specific variety of language, influence our perception of the world. I will discuss how
languages divide up nature differently, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dirven and Verspoor note how the English differentiation is entirely forced on these children by
the contrast between the English prepositions in and on (1998:140), whereas in Korean, Kkita
(glossable loosely as fit ...) is indifferent to whether the Figure goes into, onto, over, or together
with the Ground, as long as it leads to a tight fit (Choi and Bowerman 1991:90).
The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure
of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children
construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific
categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor
1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see
the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions.
Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages
prioritise different qualities. What this means is that when we say something belongs to a certain
set, e.g. that putting toys into a container falls into an in group, we are focussing on some, but
neglecting other details of the situation, such as the tightness of the fit. The framework of our
language

Definition Of Happiness
I don t believe it is necessary to aspire to greatness; I choose instead to aspire to goodness. If I
work to be the best person I can be, both to myself and to those around me, then by being good, I
may have become great. This virtue of character and action can mean different things to different
people, for no one has the same goals and ideals. There is no universal purpose.
I think a lack of destiny, or of some global grand purpose, is a freeing concept. Since, when life is
approached with an astronomical perspective the lives and happenings on one tiny planet are pretty
much irrelevant, each individual can find a better purpose in life they want. I am not constrained by
any predestined purpose.
And in fact, one of main goals in life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t think that that happiness is any less real that happiness I gain emotionally through others.
They re a different sort of emotion perhaps, but both candles and family make me feel fuzzy and
warm. And certainly happiness is no one thing for anyone. Others might feel satisfied whenever
they buy a nice painting. It s nothing more than some pigment/resin/solvent mix on a canvas, but
the happiness comes from the meaning we attach to items. Candles make me happy because of the
situations, actions, and experiences I associate with them. Though they are but material goods, they
have a meaning to me like any other item might to someone else.
This extends to the entirety of your life, for life is truly what you make of it.
Some of the most horrible happenings can end up having incredible effects on your life. Part of
living happily is accepting that, and knowing that there is a silver lining to every cloud. For
example, after my mother died, I was understandably distraught. But it is through that experience
that I ve come to learn so much. Not only have I seen how strong my family members (and
myself) could be, but I ve also come to have one of the kindest step mothers of all time. If my
mother had never died, I d never have met my step mom and had her become such an important
part of my life. Thus, even in tragedy, there is something to be thankful for.
But you can t just arbitrarily choose to be happy.
This is a lifestyle, requiring continuous,

The Effects Of Recycling On The American People Today
When one hears the word recycle, they imagine an image of a trashcan with green arrows. One
may think that throwing plastic and paper products into a bin will save the planet. Not many
know the process of what happens behind the scenes. Others are unaware of its effects on
America. There exists proof that its lasting effects are beneficial. This may sound too good to be
true and there are many questions asked. How does recyclingwork, and what are its effects on the
American people today? These questions address the process of recycling, the pros versus cons of
its cost, and its environmental impact in America. Recycling has been going on for millennia.
During ancient Rome, people would recycle bronze coins and melt them down into a statue. In
times of war, countries would gather all of their metal together and recycle them into weapons.
History has continually utilized recycling for gain. Most products of recycling before the 90 s
consisted of waste material, glass, and plastics. After that time, electronics were brought into the
mix. Recently, recycling itself has become more popularized in the last 30 years. There are various
ads on billboards, television, and the Internet about it. Recycling has shown through history that it
is beneficial. As people become more aware of their environment and its dangers, they can start to
understand and do something to help. Recycling happens with many different kinds of materials.

Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man By James Joyce
Introduction
James Joyce (1882 1941) was an Irish novelist and poet, considered to be one of the most
influential writers in the modernist avant garde of the early 20th century. In his early twenties he
emigrated permanently to continental Europe, living in Trieste, Paris and Zurich. James Joyce is
now known as one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. Even during his time, he was
respected as one of the best writers of his generation. Still, his works were so experimental that he
was not read by the general public and was often misunderstood even by his contemporary writers.
His writing became more and more hard on readers. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man often
confuses readers who are not used to experimentation in form, but Ulysses and Finnegan s Wake are
rarely read in their entirely even by people trained in such experimentation. ... Show more content

The reader will notice that the names of Joyce s schools are used in his novel. The streets of
Dublin are named as Stephen walks along them. Joyce s family s fortunes are represented in
generally the same way that Joyce experienced them in his life. It is a novel, not an
autobiography, but the line between those two genre is a thin one. It is therefore tempting to see
all that Stephen thinks about art as Joyce s own view of art. However, readers will sense Joyce,
the writer s ironic distance from Stephen, the fictional figure of the artist. A Portrait of the Artist as

and intellectual growth of a young man. A story of an artist s development from childhood through

How Does Liam O Flaherty Create Suspense In The Sniper
In this suspenseful short story, The Sniper , by Liam O Flaherty, two snipers from opposing
sides are fighting against each other. Set during the Irish Civil War, this story includes a
Republican Sniper and a Free State Sniper, from opposite sides of the war. The suspense in this
story is built through multiple ways using pacing and timing. The author, Liam O Flaherty uses
timing and order of events together to create a lot of suspense throughout The Sniper . One of
the ways that the author, Liam O Flaherty, creates suspense is by using a variety of speed related
words that increase the pace of the story. Throughout the whole story, a multitude of words are
used that increase the pace of the story. The Republican sniper inhaled the smoke [from his lit
cigarette] hurriedly and put out the light. (O Flaherty 1) The republican sniper is hurrying
because it s too dangerous to be seen, which gives the reader a sense of suspense. Also, after the

create suspense because normally when things slow down, something big is going to happen, so
decreasing pace gives the reader the sense that the story is leading into an important event. While
preparing to shoot the enemy sniper, the Republican sniper took a steady aim. (O Flaherty 2) He

Family Systems Theory Vs Family System Theory
I think that the Family System Theory and the Ecological System Theory are two important basic
beliefs about children, families, and family involvement. The system in the family system theory is
a system of people connected together and if one part isn t working things fall apart.
The elements that make up The Family System Theory are structures, rules, and boundaries.
Structures have to deal with behavioral patterns that are repeated made by the family. Rules are
used to agree and deal with situations. Each family has certain rules that are self regulating and
work for certain families. Boundaries are special rules that govern the interactions between
subsystems in the family. It helps families function well.

My Writing Class Analysis
Coming into college, I have had experience in writing analytical essays, research papers, and
creative writing projects. For two years in a row I had the privilege to be taught by the same
honor s English teacher Mr. McConahay. Mr. McConahay constantly stressed the importance of
writing. He spent the past two years preparing us for college level writingbecause he knows that in
college, writing is a big part of one s English class. We wrote about American citizenship and
what it meant to be a citizen of the world as well as a citizen of one s community. Mr.
McConahay valued structure and a good thesis the most out of anything. This writing was very
difficult for me because my mind works more creatively than it does analytically. Academic writing
has always been my weakest attribute when it came to schooling. I would much rather write a paper
full of opinions or made up people rather than write a research paper. Though his class was hard for
me, I noticed a difference in my writing as it improved over the course of the years. Mr.... Show

production. Our class put on a show like Saturday Night Live with completely original scripts and
skits. I was the hostess, so I had to create a funny monologue that was around 5 minutes long, and
perform it while our teacher recorded it. The project was well liked by the students who saw it,
and I really enjoyed the fact that I could write comedy productions and perform them in front of my

Reflection On The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
Through the examples of Oedipus and Socrates, the saying the unexamined life is not worth
living proves true in three ways: first, to live a life full of discovery is a direct calling from God;
second, an examined life leads to humbleness; and lastly, a life spent in investigation will
constantly be in pursuit of truth. A vital motive for pursuing an examined lifestyle is if a
command to do so comes from the higher power one believes in. From a Christian perspective
God rules as the higher power; however, from Socrates outlook the Greek gods dominated as the
higher power. From a Christian standpoint it is clearly a command from God to live an examined
life. Psalm 111:2 states Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who... Show more content on

Just as Socrates promptly gratified the wish of his god, humanity should be striving to fulfill the
wishes of our omnipotent Creator. In both the Apology and Oedipus a key comparable quality is
the humility shown by both Socrates and Oedipus. The humility they display originates from
their discovery of the depravity of humanity. In Socrates case, he first discerned the nature of
man when he began his quest of finding true wisdom. He found that the men he thought to be
truly wise, appeared wise to many people, and especially to himself, but he was not (Plato 26).
Socrates stumbled on the vice that fells much of humanity: pride. As Socrates continued to
pursue his search for wisdom, time and time again he was disappointed by those he formerly
thought had the highest reputation because they were nearly the most deficient (Plato 26). After
unearthing this truth Socrates had two paths he could journey down. The first would be one of
pride in himself, for indeed he did discover that he had more wisdom than most. The second path
was one of humility in that he realized that just like everyone else, he was fallible and his wisdom
could err. He chose the second path, and by doing so he became the wiser. For then he discovered
the the oracle sent to him by Apollo was sent for him to ascertain that This man among you, mortals,
is wisest who, like Socrates, understands that his wisdom is

What Are Death Camps Like In The Holocaust
Death Camps Have you ever wondered what the death camps were like in the holocaust? When
all of the jews and enemies suffered at the camps. They starved, beating, worked to death, and
killed. The holocaust was a awful time for jews and the enemies. Families were split apart and
never seen again, men worked hard labor in the camps, mothers lost their children from deaths or
just taking away. You were probably wondering what they did at the death camps and what
happened in the camps? There were six major death camps, Aishwitz, Birkenav, Chelmna, Sobibor,
Treblinka, and Warsaw. Jewsweren t the only victims in the camps, there were also Gypsy people,
and enemies. Only 7,650 jews survived when the camps closed, and hundreds of millions died a
day. All of this took place in the death camps. Jews, Gypsy, and enemies went to suffer everyday.

They wanted doctors because they liked all of there tools for them and like to use them on
soldiers and other workers if they ever got sick. But jews, gypsy, and enemies just went to the
camps to suffer and to work hard labor. They took all of the jews, gypsy, and enemies things and
burned them, threw them away or just keep the stuff for themselves. In the piles of stuff from the
jew, gypsy, and enemies they found millions of dollars and coins, which they kept for themselves.
The very first killing at the death camps was at Chelmno death camp.It began December 1941 and
killed 152,000 between December 1941 and March 1943. Which opened in Warthegau, part of
poland annexed to germany. To get rid of the bodies they either burn them in a big smoke tower, or
take out to the forest and dig a big ditch to dump all the bodies into it. Almost all of the deportees
who arrived at the camps were sent straight away to the gas chambers to be killed. German SS and
police killed over 2,700,000 jews by gas stations or by

This paper will explore the possibilities of local manufacturing and food market reconstitution. Both
topics present the question what is best the future of America? As consumer s we have the
opportunity to bring awareness and doing our part to help boost the local economy with our
purchasing power. Individuals can help progress the economy in their community and overall in the
United Statesby supporting local manufacturing or purchasing products Made In USA and by
buying from local food markets. The environment, health and safety are equally important in

Network initiative; their initiate is to help reconstitute local economies. 10 out of the 35 community
colleges across the country are using funds from Mott to extend the range of services provided for
the business incubator projects. Mott provided the $995,500 in funding to help geographically
isolated, depressed and hard to serve area community colleges to better understand the potential of
new communication technologies in spawning and fostering small business development in
response to local market need and niche. (Mott, 2015)
The idea behind this project is to figure out how we can give an entrepreneur 100 miles away from
the college an equivalent experience to one who is located right here on our campus, said Jim
Shanahan, director of the Entrepreneurship Innovation Institute at Lorain County (Ohio)
Community College (LCCC). It is one of the 10 community colleges taking part in the Virtual
Incubation Network initiative, a project of the American Association of Community Colleges
(AACC). How can a community replenish and support the workforce without reconstituting
manufacturing? Shanahan said The best approach to sustaining the local economy was to help our
entrepreneurs commercialize good ideas. Since their conception in 2007,

Understanding Cash Flows and Capital Budgeting Decisions
When evaluating cash flows for determining whether or not to pursue constructing a building to
manufacture cupcakes there are several things to consider. The most important would be looking at
a Grammy s incremental after tax cash flow. Then one needs to determine the projects initial outlay,
the differential cash flows over the project s life, and the terminal cash flow. Also what needs to be
looked at is what is the net present value and its internal rate of return.
When making the capital budgeting decision for constructing a building to manufacture ... Show

Why or Why Not?
Yes it should be accepted. The construction of the building should be accepted. This is because the
net present value is greater than one and the NPV is a positive number. This means that the
construction project creates value and wealth. Also the internal rate of return is greater than the
required rate of return. This means the project will be a benefit to Grammy s company.
Genesis 47:18 19 (KJV), states, When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year,
and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also
hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our
lands: Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for
bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and
not die, that the land be not desolate. The people in the passage of scripture were explaining to
their master what they had to offer him. The cash flow was completely gone for the previous year

Post-High Cost Of Competitive Sports
Create in your mind right now a world, a world full of people who are encouraging, full of
people who aren t constantly injured. Sounds pretty cool right? These things could happen if
competitive sports were demolished, were there no longer existed, then you can finally escape
monday night football and all the ear piercing screaming cheers. But competitive sports do give
you some pretty good skills. Although competitive sports make kids feel pressured, by everyone.
Also injuries are too common in today s society. All of the costfor sports can be overwhelming.

Also the competitiveness of today society is unreal, kids are even turning sports down
nowadays, because they think they re not good enough and it s not fun anymore. Lots of kids are
doing it, and I would too. The Pressure kids receive is from everybody, their coaches, their
teammates, even their parents, friends, and family. (NBC News) Competitive sports make people
go wild, don t any of you hear the screaming grandmas at high school basketball games? Maybe
not... but that s my grandma. I asked her why and she said that she couldn t help it.
Although competitive sports can have many negative effects, one positive effect is that you learn
many life skills by just doing one thing. According to Kirk Mango, you can learn coping skills,
sports help develop character, desire and inner will, determination/preservation, commitment,
discipline, sacrifice, priorities, builds a better heart, creating a positive mindset, cooperation, and of
course who could forget teamwork. This all is true but in fact you could do this by participating in
non competitive activities, although that may be hard to find this is true. Just find friendlier

mother of democracy, is the starting point to an unforgettable journey of western civilization. The

Filoppapou, a breath away from Acropolis, and colse to the new Acropolis Museum. The tour
continues to the Panathenaic Stadium, otherwise known as the famed Kallimarmaro stadium that
hosted the first modern Olympic Gamesof 1896. Its gleaming white Pentelic marble imposes under

Observation Of A Daycare
On Monday, November 20, 2017, at 7:30 am I observed twelve children in a classroom
environment. This daycare is a local daycare in my hometown, Bryan, TX. During this visit, I
learned a lot of new information, how and why children communicate. The classroom consisted of
about twelve young boys and girls ranging from the ages of two years old through five years old.
This classroom was not diverse. There were only ten African Americans, and two of the children
were mixed with African Americanand White. There were two daycare staff workers, who were
both African American. The theme for this week at the daycare is Community Helpers. The two
staff, answered questions, assist in a particular station for the day, and made sure that every stay on
task. There is a total of four stations, where three children pair up to each station. There were two
stations, that were self start station. Those stations include Reading/Writing and Math station, the
children were familiar with the daily routine and did not need much help or attention.
The Reading/Writing Station is one of the most important stations because if a child doesn t
know how to read or write they will not be able to go to a higher level in school or even be
successful later on in life. In this station, I saw the students picking a book from the box which
consisted of many different professions and community helpers that they could read and learn
about. Once they finished reading they would pull out a piece a paper so that

Japanese Government Vs Canadian Government Essay
From monarchy to communism, passing by dictatorship, each country has a government of its own.
In the world, there are about 200 countries in total, meaning that there are some similarities and
differences in their specific government. If one was to pick out two different countries and compare
its types of leadership, one might get a different result than other. Ever heard this quote by Tom
Robbins, Our similarities bring us to a common ground; our differences allow us to be fascinated by
each other? Well, nothing could be of more truth then that quote when comparing two different
countries. This essay is a comparison between the Canadian governmentand the Japanese

There are three branches of Government in Canada: the Judicial branch, which contains the

is made up of the Senate and the House of Commons. The Senate amends or rejects bills made by
the House of Commons. The House of Commons debates issues makes bills and represents the
public. The members are the Senators and the Members of the House of Commons. The last
branch is the Executive branch, which is made up of the Queen, the Prime Minister ( The Right
Honourable Justin Trudeau), the Cabinet, and the Governor General. It is also composed of the
symbolic, political and permeant work together to create the government. The government is

Copper And Zinc Reaction Lab Report
In retrospect, the practical was very easy to follow and achieved the desired results. In order to
quantify the amount of electricity generated through the spontaneous redox reaction, a multimeter
was used to measure the follow of electricity between the Copper and the anode. This gave us an
increased reliability and accuracy than using an analogue voltmeter. When it was calculated, the
reaction between the Copper and Magnesium in theory had a potential difference of 2.58v. The
Copper and Zinc reaction was also calculated to have the expected potential difference of 1.1v
whilst the Copper and Lead had 0.7v. When looking at the half equations of the various reactions,
the electron transfer direction can be gathered. The place of oxidation is the side which loses
electrons and the place of reduction, which gains them. Therefore, it can be determined that the
electron flow direction is from the anodes [ which are Zinc, Magnesium, and Lead], the oxidization
agents, to the Copper cathode, the reduction agent.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These differences across all three reactions ranged from 0.056 volts and 1.58 volts. The potential
cause for these inaccuracies are numerous. The occurrence of these inaccuracies may have been
due to random errors such as the sizes of the filter paper and meta strips, inaccurate measurements
of the solutions, weight of the metal strips. In addition, the introduction of systematic errors may
have also increased the inaccuracies in the results. Some systematic errors which occurred were:
not sanding any of the metal strips as well as not having a specified amount of time for soaking the
filter paper. These errors both random and systematic may have been minimised or highlighted
through conducting various repetitions of the practical investigation so that results can be averaged
to be more accurate and for more definitive conclusions to be

  • 2. The Issue Of Political Corruption The issue of political corruption is as persistent as it is prevalent; that is to say, it exists ambiguously, politically, and in undefined terms. Generally, political corruption is understood to mean a breach of the public trust in the course of a politician s duties (Huigens 2010). In any democracy that is truly for the people by the people, it should be easy to weed out the corrupt politicians. That said, the corruption of any one politician does not always translate to a different election outcome and some electors may benefit from a corrupt representative (Ionescu 2013). This is because of the ambiguous and political environment in which political corruptionoccurs. Since politicians have the power to create laws, they do not willingly create laws that criminalize their actions. This has led for the expansion of honest services mail fraud by the courts to include politicians actions (Huigens 2010). However, the courts have not always been consistent. Sometimes actions of the courts create strain on a politician such that they could not get elected without first getting corrupted (Issacharoff 2010). This process has the effect of shifting representatives power from the people to corporations (Evertsson 2013). Still, with a high profile enough case, a corrupt politician can be outrooted by the ballot box (Ionescu 2015). However, organizational deviance has a causal effect on relevant actors (Tatham 2016) especially when the issue is as widespread as Mr. Silver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. American Women In The 1970 s I think it is important to take time and actually think about all of the advancements women have made. If you think about it we would not have some of the things we have today due to the women in past standing up for they believe in. There is a quote that I cannot remember off the top of my head, but I know that it is along the lines of saying a woman in general is powerful, but once she realizes how truly powerful she is, you better watch out. Like Mary Richards, American women in the 1970s were figuring out how to use their new powers to craft a good life (Collins 241). This quote is amazing because there are so many women that do not see their potential. Everything is just a matter of you can do anything you put your mind to and it was not until the 1970 s that women were starting to come around to see what they were truly capable of. I wonder what it was like back then to be the epitome of a great athlete and still not be taken seriously. Not only could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I sincerely mean that when I say I did not know. The fact that in 1974 Congress passed a ban on sex discrimination is actually just surprising because I never realized that women were discriminated this severely. Just by reading I was almost felt as if I was being offended by Sylvia Peterson s client. To me it sounds like people just did not have a filter. Her client said to her when she asked why she was given the cold shoulder after buying a house, Well, you bought this house, her client retorted. You can t buy a house without being married (Collins 251). How about we stop jumping to conclusions? I have gotten a sense that this book is just full of conclusion jumpers. For example, women are just automatically bad at sports and if you did this then that means you did that. I think it is pretty sad actually that Sylvia was not even able to buy herself a house without getting attacked, even after doing nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beginning in January 2016, members of MS 13 committed seventeen murders over a sixteen month period in the communities of Brentwood and Central Islip. The unprecedented violence has led to fear in the community. In September 2016, 15 year old Nisa Mickens and 16 year old Kayla Cuevas were murdered while walking near their homes. The girls were so badly beaten they were barely recognizable. The murderers used bats and machetes to brutalize the girls. The investigation concluded with the indictment of thirteen members of MS 13 for the murders of seven people including the two young girls. Several of those indicted were juveniles ... Great Britain and France declared war on Germany the two days after the invasion. Throughout the war the bombing of major cities was practiced by both the allies and axis powers. The British and Americans came up with a more accurate and effective bombing tactics. This tactic is called strategic bombing . Three hundred B29 bombers dropped nearly 500,000 cylinders of napalm and petroleum jelly on the most densely populated areas of Tokyo (Carney). This raid also known as Operation Meetinghouse is considered the most destructive bombing ever. Over this 200 year period many creative alternatives to incarceration have been tried, and many at a much lower cost than imprisonment. It wasn t until the late 1980 s when our criminal justice systems across the country began experiencing a problem with overcrowding of facilities. This sanction restricts an individual to his or her residence for specific periods of time; in most house arrest programs offenders are allowed to leave their homes only for employment, medical needs, or mandated assignments such as community service or school. The emphasis of this program is on confinement, and the supervising officers role is to ensure that the offender stays confined at home. To develop this understanding a leader can approach this subject by seeking to answer the question, Should people be lead like they are machines or organisms? Because an individual s genes and memes are so unique each adult person develops characteristics that differentiate them from others. These individual characteristics affect human behavior and can be controlled like machines. One single machine can be reproduced a thousand times and each one will perform exactly like the other. This is not true for people. As concluded by Edward Deci, humans that are controlled like machines act without a sense of personal endorsement , thus becoming alienated [ (Clawson, 2009) ]. Leaders must understand people at the level of their core memes in order to get them to perform at their maximum potential in the workplace. Similarities and dissimilarities affecting human behavior is another factor that prove that people ought to be lead like organisms instead of machines. It is important for leaders to understand that while it is true for people to be very similar in some way but at the same time every person is unlike every other person [ (Clawson, 2009) ]. As stated previously, one single machine can perform and behave exactly like one thousand others because they are programmed to do so. This is not the case for organisms, such as people. In the textbook, Executive Leadership in the Workplace, the author suggested that there are seven levels of human similarity and dissimilarity that ultimately affect why people behave the way they do. The seven levels are humankind, regional culture, national culture, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The hate group that I am writing about is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Another name for this group is Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). ISIS and ISIL are the same group. This group is made up of Islamic extremists who believe the world should be under Sharia Law. Sharia Law means, One political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications to belong to this group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace back to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States invaded Iraq, Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq. After Zarqawi s death his followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq. In 2003 the Islamic State renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is using propaganda to recruit Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have no connection to ISIS, or Syria at all. There is no initiation process to join ISIS. • 14. Observation Of A Piglet On September 10th 2017 Mr. Striker placed out 10 dead baby piglets in the body farm at Wabash Heartland Career Center. The piglets all had different factors and the piglets where all still born. Before the body farm even started we wrote theories on questions that we were given and what we would think would happen to each piglet in different factors. We started observing these piglets on September 11th 2017. We observed these piglets for three weeks until mostly all of the piglets where decomposed all the way to bones. The piglet that was burned (piglet 2) was the one to decompose the fastest out of the natural state piglet in the grass (piglet 1) and a buried piglet (piglet 10). My initial thought was correct that piglet 2 would decompose fastest due to less skin for the bugs to get through the skin and get inside of the piglet. Piglet 2 decomposed on day 9 it was completely bones with no skin or flesh left on the bones due to maggots and other insects. Piglet 1 still had maggots on its legs on day 9 and was decomposed on day 11 with only bones left. The piglet 10 still has not been completely decomposed on day 15. The speed of decompositionis different when the piglet is naked on the black top (piglet6) or a clothed piglet on black top (piglet 7). My initial thought was that piglet 6 would decompose faster because there would be one less layer to get through than on piglet 7. I was correct that the piglet 6 did decompose faster than piglet 7. Lara was a skilled boxer that was feared by most people in the junior middleweight division, but Alvarez decided to take him on to prove he wasn t afraid to take a step up in competition. As you all know, that fight didn t help Alvarez in the eyes of the public. He beat Lara in a close fight, but that wasn t enough for the boxing community. Instead of being applauded for winning a close fight with someone he could ve easily avoided, the dominant storyline was that Lara was robbed. Yes, there was the ridiculous 117 111 score, but the fight was close enough for Alvarez to get the nod. Nevertheless, the boxing community couldn t come to grips with the fact that a close fight doesn t equal a robbery, so Alvarez didn t get the amount of praise Golovkin got in his recent close fight with Daniel Jacobs. The weirdest part of all of this is how the networks and media treat Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez is one of the biggest pay per view stars in boxing. His fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. drew over 1 million paper view buys, which is almost unheard of outside of Mayweather and Pacquiao. With numbers like that, you would think it would be in the best interest of boxing to push Canelo Alvarez as the next all time great. • 17. What Is The Theme Of The Golden Lily By Gold Sartin The devious plot line jumped back and forth in time as to portray the tumultuous era of Malaysia s independence after World War Two. In the novel, different factions vied for control of this newly independent country including communist insurgents, British settlers, Malaysian and the Chinese ethnicities. The communists wanted to establish a communist regime while the Chinese folks wanted to preserve their economic gains. The power struggle happens under the eyes of two former imperialist occupying forces: the Japanese and British. This plot has another added layer: imperial Japan planned to strip and loot the former colonies of their precious resources and wealth, a plan called Golden Lily. Was he really stripped from his position as the Emperor s private gardener or was he given a special mission to ensure the success of the mysterious Golden Lily s plan? The question is left up to the readers to decide. In the novel the author only provides the facts through different characters action such as Tatsuji s research on the Golden Lily plan. Was the tattoo on Yun Ling a map of the concentration s camp? Metaphorically it may also represent the mark of the past and the tumultuous Japanese occupation. Is his disappearance a sign of revolt in the face of Japanese atrocities or an attempt to destroy the traces of Japanese atrocities perpetuated in the name of the emperor? Like a boulder, the reader can only see the visible surface of his personality. Yun Ling mentions: he turned to me, touching the side of his head lightly. At that moment it struck me that he was similar to the boulders on which we had spent the entire morning working. Only a small portion was revealed to the world; the rest was buried deep within, hidden from view. He is the picture of an ideal spy: he is one of the main characters in the novel but we don t see his true personality; he remains a shadow like those in Plato s cave. The most well known and widely studied garlic compound is allicin , yet ironically allicin does not exist in fresh, undamaged garlic cloves. The predominant garlic sulfur compound is Alliin. Garlic also contains high levels of an enzyme called allinase. Cavallito and Bailey first reported in 1944 that allicin is the garlic compound chiefly responsible for the broad spectrum anti bacterial action of garlic. They noted that various actions of garlic, such as its cholesterol lowering and anti bacterial effect are primarily due to its allicin content. ALLIIN Alliin is a sulfoxide that is a natural constituent of fresh garlic. It is a derivative of the amino acid cysteins. When fresh garlic is chopped or crushed, the enzyme allinase converts alliin into allicin which is primarily responsible for the aroma of fresh garlic. Garlic has been used since antiquity as a therapeutic remedy for a certain conditions now associated w/ oxygen toxicity, and when this was investigated, garlic did indeed show strong anti oxidant and hydroxyladical scavenging properties, possibly owing to the alliin ... Effects of Capitalism on Production Conservation of Nature Sankalp Gupta 7th May 2015 ARCH 596: Seminar on the Built Environment II: Landscape and Society Dr. Ross E Adams Abstract The report will be primarily focused on the influence of capitalism on production and conservation of nature. From being individuals dependent upon nature humans have become forces which manipulate and effect nature. Besides this, the very fact that we use the term resource for nature represents that humans have developed the habit of considering nature as a commodity. In discussing this relation the analogy between the current scenario and the effort from the 70 s onward to conserve fauna through zoos, due an impending fear of loss of species has been examined. Another crucial aspect of these projects was the displacement of land and tress from their natural habitat to the artificial biomes. Movement of large amount of fertile soil and trees from their native place to an alien place and calling it a conservational phenomenon seems paradoxical and requires further analysis. The idea of colonizing space as a future prospect has been explored particularly with reference to Biosphere 2 a comparison between the present responses to the crisis and relevant responses which have been proposed but not implemented has also been discussed in this report. The Tyranny Of White Majority Essay The United States, even though considered the land of freedom, has been struggling with lingering racism and discrimination throughout the 19th and 20th century. Democratic reform throughout the century were implanted to eliminate the tyranny of the white majority Yet many scholars like Tocqueville, Fredrick Harris and WEB DuBois have challenged these results. The reality is that the tyranny of white majority has continued throughout the 18th to the 21st century resulting in a society that has suppressed and constantly failed to integrate African Americaninto the white society by neglecting the race, using natural prejudice, race neutral policies, and laws that benefited whites more than African Americans. Even before the 13th amendment and emancipation of slaves, small reforms in the northern states were being implemented to create a true free society. One would argue that these reforms were the first steps of a liberal reform that would lead to the eventual equality amongst the two races but what is forgotten is that even though reforms were passed the white majority had a natural prejudice. Tocqueville explains what makes the natural prejudice was the disgrace the African American ethnicity received by being forced as slaves. The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions. Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages prioritise different qualities. I think a lack of destiny, or of some global grand purpose, is a freeing concept. Still, his works were so experimental that he was not read by the general public and was often misunderstood even by his contemporary writers. His writing became more and more hard on readers. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man often confuses readers who are not used to experimentation in form, but Ulysses and Finnegan s Wake are rarely read in their entirely even by people trained in such experimentation. ... Joyce s family s fortunes are represented in generally the same way that Joyce experienced them in his life. It is a novel, not an autobiography, but the line between those two genre is a thin one. It is therefore tempting to see all that Stephen thinks about art as Joyce s own view of art. • 38. How Does Liam O Flaherty Create Suspense In The Sniper In this suspenseful short story, The Sniper , by Liam O Flaherty, two snipers from opposing sides are fighting against each other. Set during the Irish Civil War, this story includes a Republican Sniper and a Free State Sniper, from opposite sides of the war. The suspense in this story is built through multiple ways using pacing and timing. The author, Liam O Flaherty uses timing and order of events together to create a lot of suspense throughout The Sniper . One of the ways that the author, Liam O Flaherty, creates suspense is by using a variety of speed related words that increase the pace of the story. Throughout the whole story, a multitude of words are used that increase the pace of the story. The Republican sniper inhaled the smoke [from his lit cigarette] hurriedly and put out the light. (O Flaherty 1) The republican sniper is hurrying because it s too dangerous to be seen, which gives the reader a sense of suspense. Also, after the Republican sniper peered over the edge, There was a flash and a bullet whizzed overhead. He dropped immediately. (O Flaherty 1) The Republican sniper has to react... After the Republican sniper shot the enemy sniper, In the street beneath was all still. (O Flaherty 2) Right before the climax of the story, the pace starts to slow down. A decrease in pace can also create suspense because normally when things slow down, something big is going to happen, so decreasing pace gives the reader the sense that the story is leading into an important event. Everything was still quite bright even though it was 6 pm. I didn t want to go back home so I retraced my steps. For two years in a row I had the privilege to be taught by the same honor s English teacher Mr. McConahay. Mr. McConahay constantly stressed the importance of writing. He spent the past two years preparing us for college level writingbecause he knows that in college, writing is a big part of one s English class. We wrote about American citizenship and what it meant to be a citizen of the world as well as a citizen of one s community. Mr. McConahay valued structure and a good thesis the most out of anything. This writing was very difficult for me because my mind works more creatively than it does analytically. Academic writing has always been my weakest attribute when it came to schooling. I would much rather write a paper full of opinions or made up people rather than write a research paper. Reflection On The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living Through the examples of Oedipus and Socrates, the saying the unexamined life is not worth living proves true in three ways: first, to live a life full of discovery is a direct calling from God; second, an examined life leads to humbleness; and lastly, a life spent in investigation will constantly be in pursuit of truth. A vital motive for pursuing an examined lifestyle is if a command to do so comes from the higher power one believes in. From a Christian perspective God rules as the higher power; however, from Socrates outlook the Greek gods dominated as the higher power. From a Christian standpoint it is clearly a command from God to live an examined life. Psalm 111:2 states Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as Socrates promptly gratified the wish of his god, humanity should be striving to fulfill the wishes of our omnipotent Creator. In both the Apology and Oedipus a key comparable quality is the humility shown by both Socrates and Oedipus. The humility they display originates from their discovery of the depravity of humanity. In Socrates case, he first discerned the nature of man when he began his quest of finding true wisdom. He found that the men he thought to be truly wise, appeared wise to many people, and especially to himself, but he was not (Plato 26). Socrates stumbled on the vice that fells much of humanity: pride. As Socrates continued to pursue his search for wisdom, time and time again he was disappointed by those he formerly thought had the highest reputation because they were nearly the most deficient (Plato 26). After unearthing this truth Socrates had two paths he could journey down. The first would be one of pride in himself, for indeed he did discover that he had more wisdom than most. The second path was one of humility in that he realized that just like everyone else, he was fallible and his wisdom could err. He chose the second path, and by doing so he became the wiser. For then he discovered the the oracle sent to him by Apollo was sent for him to ascertain that This man among you, mortals, is wisest who, like Socrates, understands that his wisdom is ... The most important would be looking at a Grammy s incremental after tax cash flow. In order to quantify the amount of electricity generated through the spontaneous redox reaction, a multimeter was used to measure the follow of electricity between the Copper and the anode. This gave us an increased reliability and accuracy than using an analogue voltmeter. When it was calculated, the reaction between the Copper and Magnesium in theory had a potential difference of 2.58v. The Copper and Zinc reaction was also calculated to have the expected potential difference of 1.1v whilst the Copper and Lead had 0.7v. When looking at the half equations of the various reactions, the electron transfer direction can be gathered. The place of oxidation is the side which loses electrons and the place of reduction, which gains them. Therefore, it can be determined that the electron flow direction is from the anodes [ which are Zinc, Magnesium, and Lead], the oxidization agents, to the Copper cathode, the reduction agent....
