Google Classroom - Set Up and Tips for TeachersJohn Sowash
For the first time, Google has designed a product for a specific industry. Fortunately for educators, that product is for them! Google Classroom is a brand new tool designed to help ease the burden of sharing and receiving assignments from students.
The excitement surrounding classroom has reached a fever pitch; teachers are ecstatic and can't wait to get their hands on classroom. The excitement may be contributing to inflated expectations, however. Classroom is not a complete classroom solution; it must be used alongside perennial favorites such as Edmodo, Hapara Teacher Dashboard, Moodle, etc.
Don't have access, but eager to see what classroom has to offer? Check out this sneak peak of Google Classroom including instructions on how to setup and manage your first class!
A bite-size session introducing Google Classroom. This application allows you to create classes, that can be used to submit media and work alternatively with groups. This session is aimed at colleagues who are new to using the system and will be of value if your students submit media files.
Why Google Classroom is the Future of EducationJulia Alden
Julia Alden discusses the popularity of Google Classroom as a teaching tool, and how the program facilitates the learning, monitoring and the school experience.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
1. Google Classroom
Classroom is a free web-based platform that
integrates your G Suite for Education account
with all your G Suite services, including Google
Docs, Gmail, and Google Calendar. Classroom

ART I
P.6.VAI.1
Describe appropriate venues for the presentation of artistic work, based on the meaning to be conveyed
(e.g., museums, professional galleries, online venues, alternative venues)
Students in a small town can not experience ART lectures like students in bigger cities. I use this site in my class to allow the students the
experience of seeing artists talk about their work. The experience of ART outside of a classroom and off of the canvas is an invaluable experience.
This is the link to my favorite TED about ART:
https://www.ted.com/playlists/343/street_art?utm_source=tedcomshare&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=tedspread
Students are amazed when they see that ART and ART expression can make a peaceful art project with simple pictures. ART can change people’s
lives!
This app is very easy to use and is flexible for most any age.
Top Ten Rationale:

ART I
CR.3.VAI.5
Define a body of work
(e.g., compositions, artistic maturation, personal visual voice, influences of visual cultures, personal influences, personal environments, personal
experiences, underlying visual idea, content, theme, series)
Students in ART I need to be able to recognize the work and influences of various artist. Being able to design a quiz based on pictures, influences and
environments of an artist is helpful for the student as well as the teacher. The student can design the quiz or th teacher can design the quiz, either way
the quiz can be shared with as many individuals as you want.
For example: a student/teacher could place a picture of a piece of artwork and then add facts about the artist...who, what, when, where, why, how etc…..
Flash cards could be made, spelling tests could be created, games for groups could be created, statistics and results are reported in a graph format.
Top Ten Rationale:
❏ Can be used in any Discipline
❏ Easily manipulated by most any grade level
❏ Allows students to review while creating
❏ Meets Common Core Standards
❏ Promotes Collaboration
❏ Self Designing
❏ It is FREE
9. Edmodo
Edmodo is an online networking application for
teachers and students. Think Facebook, but in a
safe and controlled environment appropriate for
school. Edmodo is primarily a tool for
within-class communication, but it also provides
several ways for teachers to connect with other
teachers. Each edmodo class group is managed
and controlled by the teacher Students can only
communicate to the whole class or to the
teacher – private messages between students
are not possible.
10. Edmodo
Grade Level: 7-12
Civics: CPI.1.C.4 Analyze the purpose, organization, authority, and function of each of the three branches of government at
the federal and state levels.
Edmodo takes all the usefulness and ease of communication of Facebook, and takes out all of the risk of using it as well.
Say my students had to have a class-wide discussion on the app about the Legislative branch. Not only could I have
complete control over the language and know how to discussion is going, but parents can also do the same. There are no
private messages, and no other topics other than educational ones that the teacher sets up.
Ton Ten Rationale:
● Minimal risk
● Parent inclusive
● Means of communication
● Teacher controlled

million pieces of user-generated content.
StudyBlue brings together the wisdom of the
crowd, making it easier to master anything from
Art to Civics.
14. StudyBlue
Grade Level: 9-12
Civics: CPI.1.C.2 Construct explanations comparing and contrasting the ideologies of various governments and ways they
have changed over time using multiple sources (e.g., anarchy, oligarchy, monarchy, theocracy, autocracy, direct
democracy, representative democracy)
StudyBlue is very similar to Quizlet. Not only can you create your own quizzes and flashcards, but you can search for flash
cards that are the same subject as yours. If my students needed to study for a quiz about the different types of
governments, they can create flashcards on here. However, unlike Quizlet, there are many features that you cannot have
access to unless you pay. Despite this, StudyBlue can still be a great tool for any high school student.

webConsents. Add an optional question to your
consent form
18. Classtree
Grade level: K-12
Civics: PRL.6.C.1 Investigate various methods for creating federal, state, and local laws
As students get older, they tend to go on less field-trips. One reason for that is the pain that comes with informing parents,
