Vester Lee Flanagan Case
A reporter and cameraman of WDBJ7 in Roanoke, Va., were shot and killed Wednesday during a live
broadcast of the morning news. Vester Lee Flanagan II fired 17 shots from point blank range to kill
Alison Parker, 24, and Adam Ward, 27, and injuring another woman before taking his own life later
that day. After fleeing the scene, Flanagan left no evidence of where he was planning on going or what
he would do next. After five hours of searching, Virginia police caught up to his car, and Flanagan
shot himself, according to the Franklin County Sheriff s Office. Authorities say that Flanagan had
close ties with terrorist organizations that assisted the attacks in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. The
Wednesday shooting appeared to be solo attack, and he left no indication of telling anyone else ...

In the video that was taken by Ward at the time of the broadcast, shots and screaming can be heard,
and Parker can be seen attempting to escape from Flanagan. Vicki Gardner was the woman Parker
interviewed that morning at 6:45 a.m. as Flanagan opened fire. Her husband, Tim Gardner, told Good
Morning America that Gardner was shot at three times, but she managed to dodge two of the bullets.
She is now recovering from her injuries. Inside of the car Flanagan drove, police found a to do list, 17
stamped letters, a wig, three licence plates, two Glock handguns and ammunition, according to the
search warrant filed in a Fauquier County court. Authorities say it was a well planned and well
oraganized attack on the journalists. A 22 page letter written by Flanagan was sent to ABC News
stating that the attack was fuelled by the shooting at a Charleston, S.C., church this summer. On
Twitter, he claimed Parker made racist comments and Ward reported him to Human Services when he
was still working at WDBJ7, but officials from the station said there was no employee

Hockey Trips
When you think of hockey trips you you think of just the games. I have been on many trips for hockey
and they all have been different. The two trips i remember the most are the ones that i went to St.
Louis and Toronto,Canada. These trips contrast in so many ways you would think it couldn t possible
be the same game. These trips compared to each other are very each to overlay with some similarities
as well. When these trips happen they were similar in the year and during the time period. When I first
went to Toronto i was able to see and hear thing that i never would of imaged of seeing. The toronto
needle was one of them. The thing i heard that was very different was the language. I am not talking

We played the St.Louis jr Blues. This team was a funnel organization for the NHL team St.Louis
Blues. A funnel organization is one that makes a ameture hockey team in their name and the best
players go their and play. So the Jr. Blues made sure they beat us. They had such a great forecheck that
they didn t need to have defensive zone scheme. They beat us 5 2. This game was played after our six
and a half hour drive from Michigan. We had learned something that night. The hockey out west is
still very good. Typically hockey is not the same competitively as it is in warmer climates like
Missouri.Hockey in Michigan is some of the best hockey you can get not only in the United States but
the world. Since we have longer winters and hockey rinks all over and a successful NHL team in the
state hockey was very prominent in Michigan.

other major tournaments happening at the same time of these two tournaments. Our team was picked

Development Of Innovative Educational Methodologies
According to Hall (2005, pp188), Insight into the educational, systemic and personal factors, which
contribute to the culture of professions, can help guide the development of innovative educational
methodologies to improve inter professional collaborative practice. IPE is integral in a healthcare
environment, and serves to allow individuals within the healthcare profession to gain an appreciation
for differing roles. Using the Kolb s Learning Cycle (1984), I will chronologically reflect upon my
experiences of IPE, considering concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation
and active experimentation. After having exchanged pleasantries, individuals seemed coy and as
theorised by Tuckman (1965), it was inherent that our team was in the forming stage of development
within a small group. Polite and perfunctory conversation took place, which made it difficult to
progress with the task in hand. Having worked as a member of teams in the past, it was pertinent to
use what little time we had wisely and I felt it necessary to adopt the role of a team leader, akin to that
theorised by the Hersey Blanchard Situational Leadership® model. Here, I styled my leadership in the
manner of selling the task providing information and direction which, accompanied by communication
from individuals in the team, would lead to the sale of the task and potential delegation of
responsibilities and progression with it. However, there were barriers to progress in that; upon

A Child Is Mysterious and Powerful
Within the child lies the fate of the future. Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must
preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and powerful
and contains within himself the secret of human nature.
Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy.
The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most
influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a
philosophy with a practical approach based on the central idea of freedom for the child within a
carefully planned and structured environment. To analyze the above quote, we will have to know what
it is in essence the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future.
(The Absorbent Mind ,P2)
During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that
children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found
that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the
materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need
which made him normalized.
Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child
uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is
served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this
is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful,
spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40).
We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by
himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to
help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and
bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role.
Maria Montessori stated that at certain stages

Grapes of Wrath Ch. 5 8 Analysis

Theme: A theme found in this chapter is The Monster, or to be more exact, human control. The
Monster is the bank, as it takes the money away from all the people. The bank has a power over the
people, as they are desperate just to clear their debt fro m the bank. It is as though it is a monster,
forcing the people to do whatever is possible, from stealing to scavenging, just to help with the debt.
Some are forced to leave their lands and travel to California, where it is said to have jobs, so the
people have to raise money for the trip. Humans lose control of their own lives, and have to do
unorthodox things to help their lives. They are controlled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They see the truck and believe that the smoke from their fire set them off. Joad believes that the
superintendent will not do much, as they are not doing anything, but Muley knows that he will,
because they are trespassing on the land, and even that is enough for the superintendent to kill them.
We re doin somepin jus bein here. We re trespassin (77). The superintendent basically hunts
trespassers, and Muley knows, as he becomes the hunted, and also becomes a run an hide fella (78). It
gets more dramatic as there are only two options for Joad and Casy, especially since the deputy has a
gun, he either got to kill you or you got to get his gun away an kill him (79). It situation becomes
extreme especially with the possibility of death, but luckily there are able to scathe off the deputy.

Theme: A theme for this chapter is deception. It takes about the car owners, and what they did to make
a huge profit. Many people, due to the great depression, and hearing of news of opportunity in
California, had wanted to travel, since any hope of being successful, if you weren t already, was slim
in these parts of the country. To travel they would need a car to help them get to California.

Comparing Prince Hamlet In The T. V Play
Both Prince hamlet in the play Hamlet, and Clay in the T.V. series Thirteen Reasons Why, have ways
of dealing with loss, seeking the truth, and getting revenge. Both characters deal with a great amount
of grief, hurt, and confusion. These two characters are alike in many ways throughout the play, and the
T.V series. In the play Hamlet, Prince Hamlet s father dies by the hand of his uncle who goes by the
name of Claudius. Hamlet is confused, hurt, and depressed, and he doesn t know how to deal with
what he s feeling after the loss/murder of his father Prince Hamlet. O, that this too too sullied flesh

After Prince Hamlet discovered that Claudius truly did murder his father, he wants revenge. Now
might I do it pat, now he is praying, And now I ll do t. [He draws his sword.] And so he goes to
heaven, And so am I revenged. That would be scann d: A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole
son, do this same villain send To heaven. (3.3.77 83) Hamlet has devised a plan to get revenge on the
man who killed his father, but he is hesitant. In this quote, Hamlet is about to strike Claudius with the
sword, when he realizes that Claudius is praying. If he really is praying, then he goes to heaven. How
would that be fair that the man who killed Hamlet s father goes to heaven? So Hamlet doesn t kill
Claudius. In the show Thirteen Reasons Why, Clay goes through a series of times when he tries to get
revenge on the people who hurt Hannah. Clay doesn t really know what to do with his grief or
feelings, so he cracks under the pressure and stress to act like he s okay when he s not. Clay takes a
rock, and throws it at Tyler Down s window. Tyler was said to be a creep in Hannah s tape, he exposed
pictures of hannah. Clay confronts and blames multiple people as he goes through tape after tape, until
he realizes that just about everyone is to blame for the death of Hannah Baker. He gives the tapes to
the school counselor and Hannah s parents so that everyone can now know the whole truth about why

The Legalization Regulation Of The Sex Trade Essay
This paper argues for the decriminalization plus regulation of the sex trade. This paper will defend the
position that activities associated with adult prostitution (advertising, buying, soliciting, living off the
avails and keeping a bawdy house) should be decriminalized/ legalized due to: a) the capacity for
criminalization to infringe on sex worker s fundamental rights to life, liberty, and security and b) the
capacity for criminalization to prohibit sex worker s from actively preventing harm to oneself.
Philosophical support for this position will come from arguments rooted in human rights perspective,
John Stuart Mill s harm principle and arguments rooted in feminist theory. The harm principle
contends it is only justifiable to interfere with the autonomy or liberty of adults in order to prevent
harm (physical harm deprivation of rights and liberties) occurring to other persons . Whereas feminist
theory consists of a view rooted in gender equality rights and social justice. This paper will discuss
and respond to criticisms and objections rooted in legal moralism, and welfare paternalism that
support the criminalization of prostitution. Furthermore, this paper will draw upon arguments from
Prostitution Reference, and Supreme Court of Canada s Bedford Case; where judges and litigants
interpreted criminalization of activities related prostitution within the context of (s.213)
communication, (s. 210) keeping a bawdyhouse, and (s.212) living off the avails.

Mcdonalds Essay
Mc Donald s By the end of 1960s, under the guidance of Ray Kroc, who was a salesman with onetime
milk shaking capability, the Mc Donalds chain of fast food restaurants grew tremendously and there
were more than 1000 across the United States of America. After its tremendous success in USA, it
made a decision to go international and opened its first international franchise in British Columbia in
1967. Later that year, another was opened in Costa Rica .This was the point when the chain grew
steadily. In a period of six months in 1971, it made its presence in three new continents; stores were
launched in Japan, a suburb of Sydney and Holland. In 1979, Mc Donalds was introduced in South
America with a store opened in Brazil. By opening in Casablanca in Morocco In 1992, Mc ... Show

vegetarian dishes. In some Asian locations, Mc Donalds serves fried shrimp in Big Mac roll. In Brazil,
it offers baked banana pies for desert. It had taken around 33 years for Mc Donald s to open its first
10,000 restaurants. In April 1988, the 10000th unit was opened. However, the 20000 mark was

received a warm welcome. Many European nations feel it is an insult to the national cuisines that they
cherish. In 1999, Jose Bove was declared a national hero when he along with other activists destroyed
Mc Donalds under construction. This was to protest globalization and bad food . Although there were
protests, Mc Donalds is seen as a symbol of peaceful globalization. After discussion of 14 years with

Achilles Vs Hector In The Iliad
Achilles vs Hector In the Iliad , both Hector (Trojan warrior) and Achilles (Greek warrior) display
heroic characteristics. Both have strengths and weaknesses, which are apparent throughout the
conflicts in the epic poem. They have obvious differences and limited similarities, which logically
lends itself to the idea of who is more admirable. On one hand there is Achilles, a great warrior, son of
Thetis and King Peleus, and notorious for his anger. This is shown when Achilles addresses King
Agamemnon, You drunkard, with eyes like a bitch and heart like a fawn! You never arm yourself with
your men for battle... (Homer 8). Achilles is beyond livid about king Agamemnon s threatening to take
Briseis (Achilles woman), and shows this through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is shown when he tries to make a truce with Achilles, If Zeus gives me endurance, and with it I
take your life. I will do no vile outrage to your body; I will take your amour, Achilles, and your body I
will give back to your people. You do the same (Homer 318). Hector is thinking of the people on both
sides of the war. For Hector, war is a necessary evil; he longs for peace, yet realizes that it is not likely
to return to Troy. His involvement in the Trojan War is motivated by his duty to protect the people of
the country and the city in with they reside. Hector is what some consider a true patriot . He shows his
deep seated love through his refusal to take wine from his mother. His reason is simple; wine would
cripple him and make him forget that he must fight for his country. In contrast to the anger of Achilles,
Hector is calm and quiet. As the first day of battle draws to an end, Hector returns to the city to be
bombarded with questions about husbands and fathers, which he answers calmly, before joining his
parents, children and wife in the palace. Between Achilles and Hector, the most admirable person
would be Hector. He is a calm, caring and selfless person. Hector is no invincible by any means, as his
battle with Achilles shows. He longs for peace and fears the towering rage of Achilles. He
concentrates on what is beneficial for the community as a whole, opposed to Achilles, whose lust for
vengeance and treasure trumps his loyalty for his

Comparing the Learnedness and Flexibility Found in Human...
Man s relationship with horses extends back thousands of years. They have impacted wars, provided
transportation, and improved farming techniques; all while being great companions for humans.
Though they play this pivotal role in human history, only a few studies have been conducted to help us
understand what they express through their vocalizations, and their ability to recognize individuals.
Horses encompass a wide array of verbal and nonverbal cues in their communication. Vocalizations
and body language can convey caller s sex, body size, identity, motivation, and physiological states
(Yeon, 2012, p.180). Horses are social creatures making the information encoded and decoded in
verbal and nonverbal communication extremely important within their social structures.
Vocal communication transmits information about horses state of mind; this can be done using a
combination of vocal and laryngeal sounds. Horses use 10 distinctive sounds when communicating
vocally and each of these express different meanings (Zlotnik, 2012). These distinct sounds are neighs
(whinnies), whispers, nickers, squeals, screams, groans, blows, snores, snorts, and roars. Snores,
blows, and snorts are unique in that they are used with the throat and nose not vocal cords.
Understanding these vocalizations is essential in revealing horse s motivation and improving horse
human relationships, as well as if these calls are referential, learned and can be used flexibly.

Forensic Evidence
When investigators are trying to capture evidence off the internet, they can print it out or use a screen
capture and they will have to collect the metadata. Even though the investigator can use a screen
capture, will that satisfy the court? The investigator should use forensic software to collect the
metadata and after collecting it, the evidence should be protected (Sullivan, 2015). The person can
both encrypt it and perhaps put it under lock and key until the trial to show chain of evidence
(Sullivan, 2015).
While looking at the website the investigator may capture the html or the source files of the website to
supplement their evidence (Sullivan, 2015). While everything is on the internet, the investigator
should represent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pictures contain a lot of Meta data that investigators can use to tell where a person has been and
sometimes it has the date and what camera was used. Investigators may be able to get a warrant to
capture live phone calls such as wiretapping a person to hear what kind of phone calls they are making
and to whom (Forensic Science Simplified, n.d).
Chain of Custody.
An investigator wants to have a chain of custody of evidence because if the chain of evidence is
compromised, the evidence may not be admissible in court because the opposing side can say that the
evidence could have been tampered with. Documentation is important because the case may not go to
trial for a couple of years. It can help trigger an investigator s memory while testifying in court.
By documenting all of the evidence, an investigator may interpret the results and the data that they get
if they are using forensics software. If another investigator does the forensics and does not get the
same results as the initial investigator, the second investigator will want to know why and how the
first investigator came up with those results (Coons, 2015). The second investigator may want to try
out what the first investigator did in order to see if they receive the same results.
A chain of custody paper should have the specifics or a paper trail on how the

Common Examples Of Child Protective Service
In 2002 there was estimated to be nearly 3 million referrals to Child Protective Services (CPS) in the
United States, and about 5 million in the year 2000 (McWey Mullis, 2004). Children who are living in
environments that put them in harms way, depending on the situation are generally removed from their
home and placed into a foster home in attempts to keep them safe (Carlson, Egeland Lawrence, 2006).
Common examples of Child Protective Service (CPS) referrals include physical abuse, sexual abuse,
and psychological maltreatment (McWey Mullis, 2004). In 2001 it was estimated that nearly 542,000
children were in foster care in the United States and that the number of children in foster care
exceeded the number of available foster homes by nearly 30 40% (Carlson, Egeland Lawrence, 2006).
For many children in foster care, reunification with biological parent or parents is the ultimate goal
(McWey, Acock Porter, 2010). In 60% of foster care cases, reunification with biological parents occurs
(Carlson, Egeland Lawrence, 2006) .In order for reunification to be possible, or to help determine
whether reunification can occur, children and biological parents have scheduled visits with trained
supervisors who monitor the visits (Haight, Kagle Black, 2003). The duty of the supervisor is to look
at the parent child interactions and determine whether or not they are appropriate. Supervised

nevertheless, financialization of commodities markets had created a large amounts of commodity
assets and high returns and thus boost the commodities demand. as a result of the increasing interest in
commodities, several institutions have created commodity indexes. commodity index is a fixed
weighted average of selected commodity prices, which based on futures prices or spot prices. These
indexes represent the board commodity asset prices for a certain commodity as gold, oil and wheat.
Recently, most of commodities trading are over the counter (OTC) markets in which there is no formal
markets or trading exchange and therefore no fixed sturdy regulations. Primarily, researches on
commodity markets have focused on price changes and commodity risk. these studies are very
significant because of the growing rule of commodities in the asset markets and as a result of the
increasing volatility. Moreover, this importance is owing to the fact that commodity returns have
specific characteristic as asymmetry, non normal distribution and fat tails.(Chkili, Hammoudeh and

prices. These booms have negatively influenced the commodities producers and consumers around the

History of School Shootings School shootings seemed like a new phenomenon, but they occurred for
the majority of American history. The first school shooting occurred On July 26, 1764, when a Lenape
Indian shot and killed nine children and the school master of the Greencastle, Pennsylvania school
(Galvin): as noted in Appendix A. Since 1764, the number of school shootings rose exponentially. In

SOCIETY S VIEW OF MANLINESS No females become school shooters leading some to believe
that society s view on manliness has caused school violence. Those that are unpopular are viewed as
less then a man and scramble to establish their manliness . In some extreme cases they turned to
violence to prove that they are a man .
Predicting School Shootings With the large number of shootings that have occurred in United States
history one expected a pattern to exist for the shooters yet it seemed nonexistent. Many variables
existed, almost 40 (Mongan,2007), making predicting when a school shooting would occur
impossible. Even threats stating a shooting would occur were not valid signs of an upcoming shooting.
Many threats originated from students blowing off steam and no intention existed to carry out the
threat. The FBI created a list of possible ways to evaluate a threat but they caution the reader that not
every threat resulted in violence(FBI).
Mental Illness One out of every four Americans suffered from a mental illness, yet 60% of them never
received treatment (Berkowicz, 2013). An increased awareness of the effect of psychiatric drugs led
some to believe that use of them by teen led to violence. In the last several years 31 acts of school
violence occurred by people taking, on withdrawal of, or abusing psychiatric drugs. These

Head Injury Research Papers
What is killing thousands of athletes? For decades, head injuries have been leading to the demise of
athletes. A plethora of athletes such as Steve Gleason, Sugar Ray Johnson, and Lou Gehrig, have
suffered from injuries pertaining to traumatic situations caused on the brain. Many athletes who
participate in contact sports such as football, soccer, and boxing suffer from concussions, ALS and
CTEs. However, these athletes are not informed of these risks, prior to playing. To protect athletes
from head trauma, safety regulations regarding the head must be implemented, in order to reduce the
number of these death sentences that are found in athletes.

While both head trauma and concussions are caused by an outside force, a concussion is a temporary
state in which the individual endures mental alterations, but can mentally and physically recover after
a short amount of time. On the contrary, head trauma causes permanent damage to the brain. A
common misconception about concussions is that one must be unconscious in order to receive a
concussion. However, that is not always the case. Many athletes receive concussions without realizing
that they have one. How might one know if they have a concussion? If an athlete receives a blow to
the head, and are having trouble with their coordination, having a difficult time communicating,
and/or has vomited that athlete must be taken out of the game immediately. In order to test if an
athlete has a concussion, their coach give them a baseline test. The baseline test is composed of simple
questions, the athletes answer to the question, and the given time it took that athlete to answer the
question. If that athlete takes longer to answer the question, then they are suffering from a concussion.
Concussions vary depending on gender. Females are more likely than males to receive a concussion
due to their physical anatomy of their neck. Because females have smaller and weaker necks than
males, this allows for more shock to abrupt the

The arena of advertising is also another common target for the show. In an episode mimicking the
Super bowl it becomes clear that companies, especially the beer companies capitalize on the event
(Rushkoff 249). Rushkoff believes that as The Simpsons sends out messages showing how people can
be manipulated that they will become more aware that; they will be able to watch something or see an
advertisement and really look at it critically questioning its intentions and the quality of the
information. The Simpsons is a great example of how some Television shows are diverting from the
typical path of hypnotizing their viewers and are instead embracing dialogue that helps society
become more cynical of television today. Quoting from his article Johnson says, What I am arguing

genuinely nourishing. In a statement made by Graff in Hidden Intellectualism ; What doesn t occur to
us, though, is that schools and colleges might be at fault for missing the opportunity to tap into such
street smarts and channel them into good academic work. Nor do we consider one of the major
reasons why school and colleges overlook the intellectual potential of street smarts with anti
intellectual concerns. I think that Johnson would completely agree with Graff s statement and would

Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaw

Hallucinogens, OxyContin, Sedatives, Ecstasy (MDMA), LSD, Cocaine, Ritalin, Inhalants, and Salvia

United States says that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol or any sort. That 11 percent may
not seem so huge when you consider all of the alcohol being consumed by the United States each year,
but remember that 11 percent are all teens and kids under the legal drinking age. However drinking is
not the only path teenagers can choose out of boredom. Teenagers are also turning to drugs of all sorts
no matter what kind of drug it is. As a matter of fact it is estimated that 3,300 try marijuana for the

Richard Cory Poem Analysis
Ever since the 1600s when William Shakespeare described the whole world as a stage and all the men
and women merely players , the idea of people wearing masks and hiding their true feelings has been
present in literature in one way or another. In the late 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar publishes We wear
the mask , a poem that focuses on people hiding their true feelings from others and everyone can
relate. Unlike Dunbar who talks about different kinds of emotional masks people use, Edwin
Arlington Robinson uses his Richard Cory to draw attention to a mask of money and success, which
makes the average people ( we people ) admire and idealize the successful person (Richard Cory) only
because we do not know and do not even try to see what is hidden behind the mask. With ABAB
rhyme scheme, in just 4 stanzas and 16 lines, Edwin Arlington Robinson tells a meaningful and
timeless story about misfortune of Richard Cory, a person behind the mask of money and success who
seemingly has everything anyone could wish for. Robinson starts the first stanza with a description of
Richard Cory s appearance and a clear distinction between the two sides, Richard Cory and we people
. The speaker mentions Richard Cory in the first line without any introduction, which means that
everyone should know who Richard Cory was, so the introduction is not needed. Furthermore,
whenever Richard would come to downtown, we people of the pavement admired him. The people of
the pavement or people from the streets of the downtown, including the speaker, were obviously of a
lower socioeconomic class in comparison to Richard Cory. What is more, the speaker uses we people
as he wants to include the reader as well. In other words, the speaker is confident that a reader would
have also admired Richard Cory if they had seen him. In the next two lines, the speaker uses a
metaphor and implicitly compares Richard to a king: He was a gentleman from sole to crown as well
as imperially slim . Instead of saying a gentleman from the feet to the head, the author uses a phrase
sole to crown to put Richard Cory on a king s pedestal. In addition, Richard is imperially thin, which
is another characteristic of kings. So, was Richard Cory really a king

Zynga s Mission At A Young Age
Zynga s mission is to connect the world through games. Connecting with friends and making new
friends through our games or services involves sharing information, (Zynga Team).
Although Zynga has a well planned mission, the problem is that there are not many people who know
how to create these video games. Zynga can create a non profit branch within their organization; this
is where it would be beneficial if Zynga partners with MassChallenge. Since there is a high demand
for students to learn computer science, students should start learning at a young age. Zynga could
create a nonprofit that partners with middle schools and high schools. Although there is already a core
curriculum for students to learn, Zynga can create an after school computer science program for
students to take if they are interested in it. This will be beneficial in the long run because there will be
many students learning how to code. Students who are accepted into the Zynga program since middle
can learn to code until they reach high school. After students make it to high school and choose to
continue learning computer science, Zynga can offer these students the opportunity to work in the
Zynga office as interns. This way students can see the benefits of working for Zynga in the long run.
Masschallenge can help Zynga create this by helping Zynga implement this program within many
potential schools. Americans believe computer science should be taught between kindergarten and the

Since the Balanced Scorecard was developed in the 1990 s by Robert Kaplan and David Norton
(1992), it has gained in popularity amongst academics and practitioners. In 1990, Kaplan and Norton
led a research study of a lot of companies with the purpose of exploring the new methods of
performance management. The importance of the study was an increasing belief that the financial
measures of performance management were not as effective as before with the development of
modern business enterprise. Representatives involved in the study companies, including the

2003). Similar to Speckbacher et al. (2003), this study examines the structure of the BALANCED
SCORECARD as a whole. This study is however, unique in that it addresses both the structure and use
of the BALANCED SCORECARD. Kaplan amp; Norton (1992; 1996; 2001), the originators of the
balanced scorecard, emphasize that the inclusion of non financial measures is just one aspect of the
balanced scorecard, noting that there are several structural attributes that make it unique from other
frameworks, such as KPI (key performance indicator) cards and stakeholder cards. Kaplan amp;
Norton (1996, 2001) also suggest that its unique structure allows it to be used as a strategic tool to
steer organizations towards sustained long term profitability. They argue that simply including non
financial metrics in their performance measurement system is not enough for organizations to learn,
improve, and grow. If Kaplan and Norton s argument is correct, then companies with different levels
of BALANCED SCORECARD adoption should see different results. This suggests a need to compare
organizations that have different levels or numbers of balanced scorecard attributes to see if there are
any differences. As well, academic studies may be more comparable if a clearly defined Balanced
Scorecard was used. A clearly defined BALANCED SCORECARD would enable organizations and

Along with the advancement of technology and increasing access to the Internet, distance learning ,
especially web based learning has gained popularity and reached an unprecedented level in terms of
the number of students enrolled in a single course. These online courses, MOOC (Massive Open
Online Course) , threaten to overthrow the traditional mode of teaching and learning by offering free
and accessible higher level education to the general public regardless of the students background or
financial circumstances. However, MOOC has accumulated criticisms questioning its ability to deliver
quality education that can be compared to its counterpart in classrooms. In Growing Up Digital , John
Seely Brown offers many ways to examine the effectiveness of MOOC in relation to its comparability
to the traditional teaching in classrooms, and evaluate the possibility of replacing traditional teaching
with full online courses.
Today s kids are always multiprocessing and often using multiple digital devices in lectures. Studies
have shown that digital technologies were creating an easily distracted generation with short attention
spans . Although their short attention spans parallel that of top managers , this often causes students to
miss instructions by the speaker . With the lack of attention paid to the speaker, students would not
gain a deep and thorough understanding of the lectures, much less gaining necessary knowledge and
skills needed to be in a top manager s

Chivalry In Beowulf
Poetry in the Anglo Saxon or Medieval Period tended to be ballads that taught a lesson or
communicated a story. Poetry in these time periods also reflected the main religion of the specific
time. Beowulf, written in the Anglo Saxon time period is an epic, or long narrative poem, and contains
an uneasy blend of Christian ethics and pagan morality (Prentice Hall Literature, 23). Medieval poetry
focused on the chivalric code or lessons typically written in ballad form or as a lais. Bisclavret, a lais
written in the 12th century, illustrates the importance of upkeeping chivalry. Unlike these poems, the
common form of poetry in the years of 1485 to 1625 were sonnets or lyric poems. William

The poem conveys that love, unlike summer, does not end, even upon death. True love presents the
subject in a favorable light, all the while accentuating the positive aspects of the love s personality and

therefore, the friend will be forever remembered as Shakespeare affectionately viewed

Hector Monologue
Morning arrived too quickly. Hector was awakened by George, his five year old brother, a lively
brown eyed boy, full of laughter and joy.
Wake up brother! George said while jumping on Hector s bed. George was starting his first day of
school at Riverside. Luz was going to drive him and Hector there. George couldn t contain his joy!
Laughing, Hector got up and followed George to the bathroom to get cleaned up, then to the breakfast
table. All the while George kept bouncing around like a windup toy.
After breakfast, Luz drove them both to school. She kissed their cheeks, gave them tight hugs and
wished them both a great day.
When the bell rang, Hector and another student, Jose Cortez, walked with Riverside s principal to
Mrs. Robinson s third grade classroom.
Come on in! Mrs. Robinson, a young looking teacher with a bright ... Show more content on

His heart was beating quickly and felt like it would fall out at any second, but Hector squashed that
fear and looked at his classmates in the eyes.
He started talking in a shaky voice, My name is Hector and I am Mexican.
The students stared at him and Mrs. Robinson encouraged him to go on with a nod.
I love my Mexican heritage and culture. It s a part of me and a way of life that has been passed down
from generations. He said and went on to tell the class about his family, his hard working mom, their
cultural traditions, their family values, festivities, the food they ate, language they spoke at home,
music they loved and so much more. He even told them about Tally. To his surprise, the class listened
and asked questions, showing more than a hint of curiosity. No one teased him, or whispered behind
his back.
I m proud to be a Mexican. Hector said at last and received a standing ovation.
While he still felt shy, he didn t grow quiet whenever a student approached him throughout the day,

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of The Black Community
Throughout the history of motion pictures, prejudice directors have used film to control how the
general public views certain demographics of people. In particular, the black community has
historically been viewed in a negative light. Stereotypes were created through literature and film that
still affect African Americans. Directors and writers would create relatable stories and attach
demeaning traits to black people that have qualities in common with Black Americans. This would
force readers and viewers to subconsciously attach these stereotypes black people. Examples of these
stereotypes can be found in Uncle Tom s Cabin and The Birth of a Nation. Derogatory terms such as
Bucks, Toms, Coons, and Mulattos , have put African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deebo replies in the most aggressive of ways saying, Stop being a bitch and come on . As they are
walking towards Stanley s window, Deebo turns around and tells Craig, If somebody comes, whistle.
When Craig tells Deebo he is not interested in getting involved, Deebo replies, If you don t get
involved, I m gonna knock your ass out too . Due to dominance, and lack of respect for the law, Deebo
has filled the shoes of a Buck. Big Worm s dominance is show while he is working part time as an ice
cream man. While a kid is purchasing a bag of Chili Fritos, Big Worm calls over Smokey to collect the
money that he has earned from selling marijuana. Big Worm becomes irate when Smokey does not
have the money to pay him. The kid then asks, Can I have my Chili Fritos, Big Worm s response is
You can t have shit. I m closed, fat boy. Big Worm s anger led him to not give the kid his Fritos nor his
money. This is the classic example of a Buck s anger causing them to make illegal decisions without
regard for the law. An Uncle Tom is someone of lower class who is excessively obedient to upper
class white people. This term was founded in Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin in 1852.
Due to the age of the term and the advancement of this country, the term s definition has changed
slightly. Today, the Uncle Tom stereotype describes Black men that unnecessarily go out of their way

Problems In Ancient Greece Essay
Many problems had occurred in Ancient Greece. There were also many great minds that were able to
overcome these problems and rise above the struggles. The people in Greece were not responding to
the historical forces that may have been upon them, and out of their control. Rather, they were the
people who had ideas and acted upon them. Therefore, changing history into what we know it as
today.
In 570 BCE, Cleisthenes set up the first democratic government in Athens. In 483 BCE, the people of
Athens had found silver in the Laurion Mines. Since Athens was a democracy, the citizens decided
that they wanted to split up the money between themselves. However, a man named Themistocles
suggested that they used the money to build ships, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Themistocles wanted to fight the Persians in the Strait of Salamis. Many people thought that he was
crazy for this. However, his plan worked. Athens achieved victory and broke up the Persian navy,
destroying nearly 200 ships. After this strategy was victorious, Themistocles was declared a
militaristic genius.
Themistocles was raised poor, with no typical aristocratic upbringing. He was nothing special, just a
typical Athenian citizen. He wasn t born into a rich, popular family. He simply worked with what he
had available to him at the time. Historical forces were not mysteriously working away in his mind,
giving him direction, inspiring him to be brilliant. He strategized on his own, and came up with a plan
that saved Athens from being pulverized by the Persian army. In 447 BCE, Pericles promoted a
massive reconstruction plan on a part of Athens that the Persians had destroyed in their savage of the
city state. He proposed the building of the Parthenon on the remains of an earlier temple on the
Acropolis. The proposal of the Parthenon pleased the citizens of Athens because it was a celebration
of Athenians achievements. It also pleased them because it served as a place of worship to the goddess
Athena. Except for the timber roof supports, the entire Parthenon was built with marble from the
quarries of Mt. Pentelicon. Not only did Pericles want to build this structure for the purpose of a
temple, he wanted people to remember him for generations to

of organisations operating in them. These organisations have a large number of human resources
which are involved in the various business functions of the organisations. The relationship between
these human resources with each other and the management of the organisations is very important for
the success of the business. This requires the establishment of a number of laws, legislations and
regulations which manage the industrial relations in the various organisations operating in Australia.
These laws and regulations are established in the country by the government and various other
regulatory bodies in both public and private sectors. This report is a comparative analysis of such two
legislations established in Australia which had a lot of impacts on the industrial relations in the
country. The Fair Work Act passed in the year of 2009 and the Workplace Relations Amendment
(Work Choices) Act passed in the year of 2005 are the legislations under consideration. The report
compares a number of elements of both the legislations and determines the comparative effect of both

Biodiversity In Belize Essay
Biodiversity in Belize The South Caye Marine Reserve region is located along the Belize Barrier Reef.
This reef is the second largest in the world, and the largest in the northern hemisphere. Two very
important ecosystems in the Belize Barrier Reef area are the coral reef, and the mangrove trees. These
ecosystems assist in determining the biodiversity of the area, affecting animals of the water, land, and
sky. Without each other these two ecosystems would diminish, they rely on the other to thrive. These
two ecosystems benefit the environment, and also the economy. Since the economy tends to be viewed
as more important than preservation of nature, the government had to step in and create laws that will
preserve the ecosystem. Mangroves are the centre of a very intricate ecosystem. As a whole,
mangroves are sometimes considered to be the most complex and productive ecosystem on earth
(Frost, Emily). Many individuals consider the mangrove trees to be where the sea meets the land,
since it benefits animals of all kinds. There are four different species of mangroves located in Belize,
these include: the red mangove (Rhizophora mangle), the black mangove (Avicennia germinans), the
white mangrove (Laguncalaria racemosa), and the buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus). The red
mangrove is usually found along the water on the cayes and waterways, the black mangroves are
found farther from the waters edge, followed by the white mangrove and buttonwood being found
furthest inland.

Dysfunctional Interventions
helping her understand the processes that are dysfunctional through occupation engagement and
attempting to change them. An approach to helping people is to consider being empathetic and
validating their thoughts and feelings (MacRae, 2013). It would also be client centered with the social
aspect by giving the client the opportunity to express to me when she is ready to engage in social
activities and for how long. I would start out with one on one treatment and then move into group type
of treatments. To overcome her lack of motivation I would I would start with one on one because it is
a more focused and structured intervention to work on her dysfunctional processes. The treatments

In the treatment, I would provide structured sessions that are short in durations and with activities she
chooses. During the sessions, I would reinforce the processes that are dysfunctional and attempt to
create changes through an interpersonal approach. Interventions should be concrete and tangible, and
activities should be short term, simple and success enhancing (MacRae, 2013, p. 238). Once the client
has made changes to her processes then group treatments will be attempted to help reinforce the new
beliefs, attributions, and appraisals she has with others that may have a similar diagnosis. In order to
get her to come to these groups, I would reemphasize all the positive appraisals, attributions, and
beliefs about herself during each session and also that others will also have the same thoughts about
her. Another strategy is to have her engage in group treatment for shorter time span than gradually
increase the time exposure based on her willingness. Exposure therapy enables an individual to
weaken fears and avoidant behaviors (Cara MacRae, 2013). The group can give her a sense of support
and increase her ability to

Activism Is Not For The Faint Of Heart
Activism is not for the faint of heart. The Greensboro Sit Ins were meticulously planned and executed
and those participating in the sit ins were faced with harassment, name calling, and constant threats of
violence from those in opposition. The Montgomery Bus Boycott left many participants walking,
hitchhiking, or cycling to work and called for the organization of alternative forms of travel such as
carpools. Those in alliance with the boycott faced both acts of violence and jail time. Likewise, some
participants in the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project were viciously kidnapped and murdered,
while others were beaten, shot at, and arrested. During the civil rights era, activism could not be done
halfheartedly, one had to immense themselves in the movement and face the backlash that came with
it on the forefront. This activism is in stark contrast with today s social and political movements,
because now our crusading can all be done safely online.
Social media s prevalence is undeniable. From raising awareness to calling people to action, outlets
like Facebook and Twitter have also become powerful tools for political and social revolutions. In the
African American community, however, the effectiveness of online activism ranges from little to none.
Issues dealing with black people are, more often than not, popular on social networking sites for a
short amount of time and afterwards they tragically fade into obscurity. Many supporters of online
movements rarely venture into

Not all but a handful of Hispanic immigrants are criminals along with the cartel to make money and
easily survive as an immigrant in the U.S. In the novel, the mothers were mainly stay at home moms
who took care and fed the children while the men went out to work for the money. It much easier now
as an immigrant to get into crime as it was before because there are much more options that pay large
amounts of cash for those willing to take the job. The women in the novel didn t have lives of crime as
easily accessible to them as it is now. Immigration is a very problematic and debatable topic in many
ways. Its isn t easy being an immigrant no matter what country you come from or where you settle.
The novel shares stories of Chinese immigrants and the article shares how it is as a Hispanic
immigrant. Although being very differing culture, they are still share many similarities.

War On The Second World War
War is one of the most dreadful matter in our world today. We have grown up watching news on wars
on television channels and news. I am from a country called Bangladesh, where we fought for victory
to save our country through a nine months bloody war. And, now we see all this war around different
countries in news channels, and newspapers, killing of innocent people. War has nothing to do with
killing innocent citizens of a country. The main purpose of war is to fight against one another to
protect themselves, but instead of protecting they put the life of innocent people of their country in
danger. In our history, we have already had two immense wars. These wars were the World Wars,
simply because they involved most of the vast countries of the world, which made history. The Second
World War was perhaps the most significant period of the 20th century. It is a very huge topic to
discuss about. Many writers wrote books on the Second World War. Some writers emphasized on the
cause, some emphasized on the effects. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is a book on the Second
World War written by William L Shirer. Shirer is an American Journalist and a war columnist. This
book is written based on Shirer s own experience while he was living in Germany during the early
years of the Third Reich. William Lawrence Shirer was born in Chicago in February 23, 1904. His
father was a lawyer and served as an assistant United States District Attorney. After the death of his

After fleeing the scene, Flanagan left no evidence of where he was planning on going or what he would do next. Inside of the car Flanagan drove, police found a to do list, 17 stamped letters, a wig, three licence plates, two Glock handguns and ammunition, according to the search warrant filed in a Fauquier County court. Authorities say it was a well planned and well oraganized attack on the journalists. A 22 page letter written by Flanagan was sent to ABC News stating that the attack was fuelled by the shooting at a Charleston, S.C., church this summer. Development Of Innovative Educational Methodologies According to Hall (2005, pp188), Insight into the educational, systemic and personal factors, which contribute to the culture of professions, can help guide the development of innovative educational methodologies to improve inter professional collaborative practice. IPE is integral in a healthcare environment, and serves to allow individuals within the healthcare profession to gain an appreciation for differing roles. Using the Kolb s Learning Cycle (1984), I will chronologically reflect upon my experiences of IPE, considering concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation and active experimentation. After having exchanged pleasantries, individuals seemed coy and as theorised by Tuckman (1965), it was inherent that our team was in the forming stage of development within a small group. Polite and perfunctory conversation took place, which made it difficult to progress with the task in hand. Having worked as a member of teams in the past, it was pertinent to use what little time we had wisely and I felt it necessary to adopt the role of a team leader, akin to that theorised by the Hersey Blanchard Situational Leadership® model. Here, I styled my leadership in the manner of selling the task providing information and direction which, accompanied by communication from individuals in the team, would lead to the sale of the task and potential delegation of responsibilities and progression with it. However, there were barriers to progress in that; upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and powerful and contains within himself the secret of human nature. Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy. The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a philosophy with a practical approach based on the central idea of freedom for the child within a carefully planned and structured environment. Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future. (The Absorbent Mind ,P2) During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need which made him normalized. Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful, spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40). We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role. • 9. The Legalization Regulation Of The Sex Trade Essay This paper argues for the decriminalization plus regulation of the sex trade. This paper will defend the position that activities associated with adult prostitution (advertising, buying, soliciting, living off the avails and keeping a bawdy house) should be decriminalized/ legalized due to: a) the capacity for criminalization to infringe on sex worker s fundamental rights to life, liberty, and security and b) the capacity for criminalization to prohibit sex worker s from actively preventing harm to oneself. Philosophical support for this position will come from arguments rooted in human rights perspective, John Stuart Mill s harm principle and arguments rooted in feminist theory. The harm principle contends it is only justifiable to interfere with the autonomy or liberty of adults in order to prevent harm (physical harm deprivation of rights and liberties) occurring to other persons . Whereas feminist theory consists of a view rooted in gender equality rights and social justice. This paper will discuss and respond to criticisms and objections rooted in legal moralism, and welfare paternalism that support the criminalization of prostitution. Furthermore, this paper will draw upon arguments from Prostitution Reference, and Supreme Court of Canada s Bedford Case; where judges and litigants interpreted criminalization of activities related prostitution within the context of (s.213) communication, (s. 210) keeping a bawdyhouse, and (s.212) living off the avails. ... Both have strengths and weaknesses, which are apparent throughout the conflicts in the epic poem. They have obvious differences and limited similarities, which logically lends itself to the idea of who is more admirable. On one hand there is Achilles, a great warrior, son of Thetis and King Peleus, and notorious for his anger. I will do no vile outrage to your body; I will take your amour, Achilles, and your body I will give back to your people. You do the same (Homer 318). Hector is thinking of the people on both sides of the war. For Hector, war is a necessary evil; he longs for peace, yet realizes that it is not likely to return to Troy. His involvement in the Trojan War is motivated by his duty to protect the people of the country and the city in with they reside. Hector is what some consider a true patriot . He shows his deep seated love through his refusal to take wine from his mother. His reason is simple; wine would cripple him and make him forget that he must fight for his country. In contrast to the anger of Achilles, Hector is calm and quiet. As the first day of battle draws to an end, Hector returns to the city to be bombarded with questions about husbands and fathers, which he answers calmly, before joining his parents, children and wife in the palace. Between Achilles and Hector, the most admirable person would be Hector. He is a calm, caring and selfless person. Hector is no invincible by any means, as his battle with Achilles shows. They have impacted wars, provided transportation, and improved farming techniques; all while being great companions for humans. Though they play this pivotal role in human history, only a few studies have been conducted to help us understand what they express through their vocalizations, and their ability to recognize individuals. Horses encompass a wide array of verbal and nonverbal cues in their communication. Vocalizations and body language can convey caller s sex, body size, identity, motivation, and physiological states (Yeon, 2012, p.180). Horses are social creatures making the information encoded and decoded in verbal and nonverbal communication extremely important within their social structures. Vocal communication transmits information about horses state of mind; this can be done using a combination of vocal and laryngeal sounds. Horses use 10 distinctive sounds when communicating vocally and each of these express different meanings (Zlotnik, 2012). These distinct sounds are neighs (whinnies), whispers, nickers, squeals, screams, groans, blows, snores, snorts, and roars. Snores, blows, and snorts are unique in that they are used with the throat and nose not vocal cords. Even threats stating a shooting would occur were not valid signs of an upcoming shooting. Many threats originated from students blowing off steam and no intention existed to carry out the threat. The FBI created a list of possible ways to evaluate a threat but they caution the reader that not every threat resulted in violence(FBI). Mental Illness One out of every four Americans suffered from a mental illness, yet 60% of them never received treatment (Berkowicz, 2013). An increased awareness of the effect of psychiatric drugs led some to believe that use of them by teen led to violence. In the last several years 31 acts of school violence occurred by people taking, on withdrawal of, or abusing psychiatric drugs. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Richard Cory Poem Analysis Ever since the 1600s when William Shakespeare described the whole world as a stage and all the men and women merely players , the idea of people wearing masks and hiding their true feelings has been present in literature in one way or another. In the late 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar publishes We wear the mask , a poem that focuses on people hiding their true feelings from others and everyone can relate. Unlike Dunbar who talks about different kinds of emotional masks people use, Edwin Arlington Robinson uses his Richard Cory to draw attention to a mask of money and success, which makes the average people ( we people ) admire and idealize the successful person (Richard Cory) only because we do not know and do not even try to see what is hidden behind the mask. With ABAB rhyme scheme, in just 4 stanzas and 16 lines, Edwin Arlington Robinson tells a meaningful and timeless story about misfortune of Richard Cory, a person behind the mask of money and success who seemingly has everything anyone could wish for. Robinson starts the first stanza with a description of Richard Cory s appearance and a clear distinction between the two sides, Richard Cory and we people . The speaker mentions Richard Cory in the first line without any introduction, which means that everyone should know who Richard Cory was, so the introduction is not needed. Furthermore, whenever Richard would come to downtown, we people of the pavement admired him. The people of the pavement or people from the streets of the downtown, including the speaker, were obviously of a lower socioeconomic class in comparison to Richard Cory. What is more, the speaker uses we people as he wants to include the reader as well. In other words, the speaker is confident that a reader would have also admired Richard Cory if they had seen him. In the next two lines, the speaker uses a metaphor and implicitly compares Richard to a king: He was a gentleman from sole to crown as well as imperially slim . Instead of saying a gentleman from the feet to the head, the author uses a phrase sole to crown to put Richard Cory on a king s pedestal. This study is however, unique in that it addresses both the structure and use of the BALANCED SCORECARD. Kaplan amp; Norton (1992; 1996; 2001), the originators of the balanced scorecard, emphasize that the inclusion of non financial measures is just one aspect of the balanced scorecard, noting that there are several structural attributes that make it unique from other frameworks, such as KPI (key performance indicator) cards and stakeholder cards. Kaplan amp; Norton (1996, 2001) also suggest that its unique structure allows it to be used as a strategic tool to steer organizations towards sustained long term profitability. They argue that simply including non financial metrics in their performance measurement system is not enough for organizations to learn, improve, and grow. If Kaplan and Norton s argument is correct, then companies with different levels of BALANCED SCORECARD adoption should see different results. This suggests a need to compare organizations that have different levels or numbers of balanced scorecard attributes to see if there are any differences. Laughing, Hector got up and followed George to the bathroom to get cleaned up, then to the breakfast table. All the while George kept bouncing around like a windup toy. After breakfast, Luz drove them both to school. She kissed their cheeks, gave them tight hugs and wished them both a great day. It s a part of me and a way of life that has been passed down from generations. He said and went on to tell the class about his family, his hard working mom, their cultural traditions, their family values, festivities, the food they ate, language they spoke at home, music they loved and so much more. He even told them about Tally. To his surprise, the class listened and asked questions, showing more than a hint of curiosity. No one teased him, or whispered behind his back. Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of The Black Community Throughout the history of motion pictures, prejudice directors have used film to control how the general public views certain demographics of people. In particular, the black community has historically been viewed in a negative light. Stereotypes were created through literature and film that still affect African Americans. Directors and writers would create relatable stories and attach demeaning traits to black people that have qualities in common with Black Americans. This would force readers and viewers to subconsciously attach these stereotypes black people. Examples of these stereotypes can be found in Uncle Tom s Cabin and The Birth of a Nation. • 41. Problems In Ancient Greece Essay Many problems had occurred in Ancient Greece. There were also many great minds that were able to overcome these problems and rise above the struggles. The people in Greece were not responding to the historical forces that may have been upon them, and out of their control. Rather, they were the people who had ideas and acted upon them. Therefore, changing history into what we know it as today. In 570 BCE, Cleisthenes set up the first democratic government in Athens. Many people thought that he was crazy for this. However, his plan worked. Athens achieved victory and broke up the Persian navy, destroying nearly 200 ships. After this strategy was victorious, Themistocles was declared a militaristic genius. Themistocles was raised poor, with no typical aristocratic upbringing. He was nothing special, just a typical Athenian citizen. He wasn t born into a rich, popular family. He simply worked with what he had available to him at the time. Historical forces were not mysteriously working away in his mind, giving him direction, inspiring him to be brilliant. He strategized on his own, and came up with a plan that saved Athens from being pulverized by the Persian army. In 447 BCE, Pericles promoted a massive reconstruction plan on a part of Athens that the Persians had destroyed in their savage of the city state. He proposed the building of the Parthenon on the remains of an earlier temple on the Acropolis. The proposal of the Parthenon pleased the citizens of Athens because it was a celebration of Athenians achievements. It also pleased them because it served as a place of worship to the goddess Athena. Except for the timber roof supports, the entire Parthenon was built with marble from the quarries of Mt. Pentelicon. Not only did Pericles want to build this structure for the purpose of a temple, he wanted people to remember him for generations to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Biodiversity In Belize Essay Biodiversity in Belize The South Caye Marine Reserve region is located along the Belize Barrier Reef. This reef is the second largest in the world, and the largest in the northern hemisphere. Two very important ecosystems in the Belize Barrier Reef area are the coral reef, and the mangrove trees. These ecosystems assist in determining the biodiversity of the area, affecting animals of the water, land, and sky. Without each other these two ecosystems would diminish, they rely on the other to thrive. These two ecosystems benefit the environment, and also the economy. Since the economy tends to be viewed as more important than preservation of nature, the government had to step in and create laws that will preserve the ecosystem. Mangroves are the centre of a very intricate ecosystem. As a whole, mangroves are sometimes considered to be the most complex and productive ecosystem on earth (Frost, Emily). Many individuals consider the mangrove trees to be where the sea meets the land, since it benefits animals of all kinds. There are four different species of mangroves located in Belize, these include: the red mangove (Rhizophora mangle), the black mangove (Avicennia germinans), the white mangrove (Laguncalaria racemosa), and the buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus). The red mangrove is usually found along the water on the cayes and waterways, the black mangroves are found farther from the waters edge, followed by the white mangrove and buttonwood being found furthest inland. ... In the treatment, I would provide structured sessions that are short in durations and with activities she chooses. During the sessions, I would reinforce the processes that are dysfunctional and attempt to create changes through an interpersonal approach. Interventions should be concrete and tangible, and activities should be short term, simple and success enhancing (MacRae, 2013, p. 238). Once the client has made changes to her processes then group treatments will be attempted to help reinforce the new beliefs, attributions, and appraisals she has with others that may have a similar diagnosis. In order to get her to come to these groups, I would reemphasize all the positive appraisals, attributions, and beliefs about herself during each session and also that others will also have the same thoughts about her. Another strategy is to have her engage in group treatment for shorter time span than gradually increase the time exposure based on her willingness. Exposure therapy enables an individual to weaken fears and avoidant behaviors (Cara MacRae, 2013). The group can give her a sense of support and increase her ability to ... The Greensboro Sit Ins were meticulously planned and executed and those participating in the sit ins were faced with harassment, name calling, and constant threats of violence from those in opposition. The Montgomery Bus Boycott left many participants walking, hitchhiking, or cycling to work and called for the organization of alternative forms of travel such as carpools. Those in alliance with the boycott faced both acts of violence and jail time. Likewise, some participants in the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project were viciously kidnapped and murdered, while others were beaten, shot at, and arrested. During the civil rights era, activism could not be done halfheartedly, one had to immense themselves in the movement and face the backlash that came with it on the forefront. This activism is in stark contrast with today s social and political movements, because now our crusading can all be done safely online. Social media s prevalence is undeniable. From raising awareness to calling people to action, outlets like Facebook and Twitter have also become powerful tools for political and social revolutions. In the African American community, however, the effectiveness of online activism ranges from little to none. I am from a country called Bangladesh, where we fought for victory to save our country through a nine months bloody war. And, now we see all this war around different countries in news channels, and newspapers, killing of innocent people. War has nothing to do with killing innocent citizens of a country.
