What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Caste
Caste is closely connected with the Hindu Philosophy and religion, custom and tradition, it is believed
to have had a divine origin and sanction. It is deeply rooted social institution in India. Eminent scholar
G.S.Ghurye points out that any attempt to define caste system is bound to fail because of its
complexity of the phenomenon.(Ghurye : 1961).To define simply in India caste is a social
stratification; historically it separated communities into thousand of endogamous hereditary groups
called Jatis . The Jatis were grouped by Brahminical texts under four categories, known as Varnas.
Certain groups known as Dalits or Panchama were excluded from Varna system altogether, ostracized
by all other caste as untouchables . In a perpetual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Parekh: 1999). Gandhi s attitude towards caste and its beneficial vestige Varna, which had provided
stability to Indian society for centuries and practicable system of division of labour changed with time.
In later days most prominently after his encounter and verbal duels with Ambedkar, his ideas
transformed and he abandons his initial views. Gandhi soon realised that several practises in tradition
of India that are not defensible. The last two decades of his career (1927 1947) represent a progressive
movement towards a radical critique of caste. Greater emphasis was laid on social equality, justified
with an appeal. It was related to the traditional Hindu concept of Advaita , or the spiritual oneness of
all being. The caste system s most vicious feature, he argued, is that it has upheld the idea of inherited
superiority, there is nothing common in between Varnaashrama and caste.(Dalton:1993). A tremendous
changed occurred in Gandhi s concept of caste and in 1945 Gandhi s endeavour was that Hindus
should regard themselves as a member of same performing Varna. Gandhi s this reinterpretation of
Varna emphasizes his dominant concern for social equality and harmony an egalitarian democratic

Jfk And The President Jfk
On November 22, 1963 shortly after noon the 35th president of the United States of America John
Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) was assassinated in Dallas Texas. The nation and the whole world was
shocked in that day. In fact, president JFK was preparing for his next combine in Texas, he took a road

The road trip went through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas towards the trade mart, where the

Essay on Analysis of Cavemen in the Hedges
Chase Thomas
Prof. Julia Elliot
English 282
November 15, 2011
The Cavemen in the Hedges The Cavemen in the Hedges is a short story that contains many
underlying themes of psychoanalytical theory. Themes of the id, a selfish, primal, version of one s self
concerned only with physical desires; the superego, part of a person s psyche that is only worried
about ideals and morals; and the ego, the rational part of the brain that attempts to satisfy both the id
and superego natures make up an immense proportion of the breakdown of this story. Repression and
other psychological defense mechanisms are also very important in the analysis as well. The first
display of the id is that of the cavemen themselves. Our cavemen are ... Show more content on

She lets the cleanliness of her once perfectly kept house go to pot. She no longer cares about reality or
morals and becomes lost to the raw desires of her primal nature. The next theme that is displayed in
The Cavemen in the Hedges is the superego. This is seen in several of our characters at times, but it is
without a doubt personified in the annoying neighbors, the Schaefers. Evan and Winsome are
described as New Age hippies and over friendly . Their dress reminds me of how a choir robe would
look. These two are the type of people that believe everything has a spirit and every creature should be
cared for. While having dinner with our main characters, Winsome begins to get teary eyed over
having found a newborn cavebaby that had died in their backyard. She shows compassion for this
abandoned creature, one of the greatest emotions expressed in terms of the superego. When Kim
declares that she doesn t understand how Winsome could possibly cry for these things and that they
are disgusting , Winsome thinks Kim is being judgmental. This is an archetypal viewpoint of the
superego, as she says this with almost a condescending tone in her voice. The Schaefers appear to be a
moral, sensitive couple that cares deeply for all manner of peoples and this supremely annoys Kim and
the narrator. The reason they are so put off by their neighbors is that they are uncomfortable with
themselves in comparison to the Schaefers. The Schaefers are happily married

Imagine You Get A Knock On The Door. You Open It, Hesitant,
Imagine you get a knock on the door. You open it, hesitant, knowing you have prior convictions, to see
multiple police officers and detectives. They invite themselves inside and begin asking you questions
about a cold case potentially involving a someone in your family. They ask if anyone in your family
matches the description of a suspect in the case and if you can provide an alibi for them. After
answering their questions, they leave and the next week you find out your brother was arrested for
murder; his DNA matched the sample taken from the crime scene. You helped solve a decade old
murder case and turned in your brother simultaneously. This is the result of familial searching. The

One in particular is the arrest of Lonnie David Franklin Jr. aka the Grim Sleeper last August in Los
Angeles, California. He was arrested for killing a confirmed 10 victims between 1985 and 2007 thanks
to a partial DNA match. Franklin had initially left DNA at the crime scene, but because he wasn t in
CODIS (the FBI s Combined DNA Index System) investigators hit a dead end. Finally, in 2010 they
found a partial match (15/16 alleles): one of Franklin s offspring. This led them right to Franklin
where they collected DNA and compared it to the sample taken from the crime scene and matched it.
This is one of the most convincing success stories of familial searching; finding a serial killer and
bringing him to justice almost a decade after the murders is an outstanding accomplishment for a
police department, so many others are following their lead and experimenting with the technique. But,
as of the end of 2016, only nine states allow it (McBride, 2016). Because of the many recorded
successes of this technique, many people are advocating for its use, especially family members of
victims whose killers have never been identified. One example of an advocate is the family of Katrina
Vetrano, a 30 year old woman from New York who was murdered last summer (Rosenberg, 2017).
The family believes that since all other investigative efforts have been exhausted, its time to start
pushing for its use and as of March 2017, the DNA subcommittee of

How Did Ben Chifley Influence The Labour Movement
I try to think of the Labour movement, not as putting an extra sixpence into somebody s pocket, or
making somebody Prime Minister or Premier, but as a movement bringing something better to the
people, better standards of living, greater happiness to the mass of the people. We have a great
objective the light on the hill which we aim to reach by working for the betterment of mankind not
only here but anywhere we may give a helping hand.
This is but a short excerpt of Ben Chifley s famous Light on the Hill speech in 1949, but it shows the
extent of his political aptitude and beliefs as a true believer in the Labour movement. He is best
recognised for his leadership in the Keynesian, interventionalist reconstruction of the Australian
economy following the Second World War and also his tenure as the architect of the Australian
welfare state since 1945. As such, it is highly evident Ben Chifley had a substantial impact on the post

The Catcher In The Rye And The Kite Runner
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini are both significant
literary merits narrated by characters, Amir and Holden, who are both longing for the acquisition of
innocence. Both of these characters journeys are portrayed through foreshadowing, irony, and the
characters inability to face reality. However, The Catcher in the Rye is cynical and bitter while The
Kite Runner is full of sorrow and remorse. In The Kite Runner, the narrator starts off by setting the
scene and stating that this was the moment that he became who he is today. Amir, the main character,
is peering into an alley, crouched behind a mud wall. The narrator does not elaborate much past that,
there is no context to the situation and leaves the reader wanting an explanation. Later, however, the
scene reappears. Not only does the scene resurfaces, but, it becomes the setting for the main conflict in
the book and ultimately Amir s life, the raping of Hassan, his best friend. This is the moment where all
innocence is lost and leaves Amir fighting to regain what he has quickly lost. This scene is also just
after the last time Amir will see Hassan smile until years later, in a polaroid picture. This use of
foreshadowing indicates Hassan s death, which does not happen until towards the end of the book.
From the reader s perspective, knowing that this is the last time Amir sees Hassan happy and alive
portrays a very sorrowful tone. The Catcher in the Rye is similar in

Music File Sharing Research Paper
In 2018 a mother of a 12 year old girl in New York settled a lawsuit of $2000 because she was

someone want to do that? As the person, you re taking the money of someone else s hard work. The
artist that wrote the song took a lot of time and effort to make it. There are thousands of music artist

money to pay for mortgage, house, car, insurance, kids, food and many other things. Also, there would
be fewer employees in the music industry because no one is going to earn anything. A fact shows that
the file sharing not only has an impact on the one person but the all music industry and the livelihood

New Mexican Culture Essay
From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin and
my classmates. I was totally surprised by the architecture of the housing and the rich collection of
Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost everyone
has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses, businesses,
government buildings including museums are almost built in this style. The colors seem to blend in
with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexico was the museum
presentation of the Zuni tribe. Although we actually did not meet the Zuni tribe, we learned a lot about

I actually encountered with many vaguely familiar words when studying Native Americans cultures
such as Kachina, Sacagawea, and Maria Montoya Martinez. Both Zunian and Japanese are unique and
distinct from all the world s languages, and I believe that there is language connection between Zuni
and Japanese.
Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching
traditions to younger generations. As time progresses, the quality and amount of language spoken is
affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak both
Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and parents by
words of mouth. Many projects have been established to transform the knowledge communicated in
spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated into teaching methods in
public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy program was introduced
into the School District in 1989. The Zuni Public School District media centers were awarded an
electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its Apple Library of Tomorrow

begin production of both print and electronic versions of the first bilingual Zuni English Dictionary.

Artificial Heart Valve Research Paper
Artificial heart valve is a device implanted in the heart of a patient with valvular heart disease. When
one of the four heart valves malfunctions, the medical choice may be to replace the natural valve with
an artificial valve. This requires open heart surgery. Valves are integral to the normal physiological
functioning of the human heart. Natural heart valves are evolved to forms that perform the functional
requirement of inducing unidirectional blood flow through the valve structure from one chamber of
the heart to another. Natural heart valves become dysfunctional for a variety of pathological causes.
Some pathologies may require complete surgical replacement of the natural heart valve with a heart
valve prosthesis [34].The mid twentieth century kick started the ... Show more content on

Caged ball Valves: In the caged ball type designs as shown in the Figure 8 [37] [38], a small ball acts
as a check valve within its containment. As blood flows through the valve the ball is pushed away
from the seat allowing the blood to pass through the opening. As the flow ends, the ball falls back
closing off the opening preventing the back flow of the blood. Hufnagels caged ball valve was the first
long term success of an implanted mechanical caged ball valve type. The Starr Edwards Ball valve
was a remarkably simple design that has been used for a long period of time, with only simple changes
in shape or materials used in the valve. The idea started when a retired pump engineer Lowell

Wal-Mart and Costco
1. Introduction
Wal Mart
Wal Mart was founded by Sam Walton on 1962 and it is the largest retailer in the world. The company
has three major operations which are Wal Mart Stores U.S., Sam s Club, and Wal Mart International.
On 2007, Wal Mart used this new slogan Save Money Live Better . However, there are some critics
about their employee life. Wal Mart exploits their employee s salary for setting low price to customer.
They resisted their worker to build union organization because they tried to prevent from negotiating

3. The process of calculation
The way I use to evaluate share price is Enterprise Value to Sales . This way can ignore growth rate
that I need to predict when I use Golden Growth .
Firstly, I use historical data to calculate FCF/Revenue and make average. Furthermore, Capital IQ
offers the predicted revenue data and I combine it with average FCF/Revenue. In other words, I get
projected free cash flow.
Secondly, Ibbotson and Capital IQ provide their bond rating, capital structure, average historical long
term risk free rate and beta. The reason I use historical risk free rate rather current rate is that it is
more stable. According to above information I can find the cost of debt and cost of equity. Moreover,
the effective tax rate can be found in their annual report. That is, I calculate the WACC finally.
Thirdly, I use EV to Sales ratio in 2011 for the base and use this ratio to multiply revenue in 2015 that
I will get terminal value in 2015. Besides, I combine discounted free cash flow from 2012 to 2015 and
add 4 year discounted terminal value. As share price is equity value divided by outstanding shares that
I have to use enterprise value subtract long term debt to get equity value.
To short, the advantage for using EV to Sales is that it can prevent from predicting growth rate
inappropriately. After all, growth

The Message Of Osama Bin Laden
On May 1, 2011 many Americans received the message we never thought would come. Every single
American was glued to their television sets that evening for a message we would never forget. It had
been previously leaked to the public that maybe Osama Bin Laden had in fact been killed, but it was
still uncertain until President Obama addressed the nation confirming his death. This ten minute
speech awaited the ears of millions of Americans longing for justice, and that night it had been served.
Barrack Obama was able to convey his message using various rhetorical devices, making his speech
one that was truly effective and memorable.
Our recollection of Osama Bin Laden began on a day that will live in history for years to come. On
September 11th 2011, terrorist hijacked four jetliners. Two planes were flown in to the World Trade
Center towers in New York City, one into the Pentagon, and the other crashed into a field in southern
Pennsylvania. These terrorist who hijacked these planes and caused the loss of thousands of lives were
part of Osama Bin Laden s terrorist group, al Qaeda. Due to this horrific tragedy, Americans became
emotionally scarred and were scared of the world around them. Osama became one of the most
wanted men alive, and Americans wanted justice. For ten years we waited for the answer that he was
caught, but On May 11th prayers were finally answered. President Obama s speech was one of the
most awaited in history. His speech restored a sense of confidence in

Is America Still Relevant Today
America has the ability to make difference in people lives. As said before, people came to the United
States to seeks better lives and more opportunities. I believe the American Dream also means being
equally treated. Equal does not mean we are all the same. We are all different, which is what makes
American the way it is today. We are all human and deserve to be treated as such with dignity and
respect. Although America has a hard time showing that we are all equal, I still believe it is a part of
the American Dream. The United States have run into many brick walls trying to make it seem like all
of us are equal, but it has not been a complete success. Many problems with race and gender is still

Computer Topology Of A Network
INTRODUCTION: The physical or network topology of a network seriously affects the network
price, dependability, throughput, and approach pattern, etc, thus we want to contemplate these
multiple criteria having totally different units, at the same time. However, normal ways of planning
topology contemplate solely one criterion, e.g., minimizing the specified range of physical links.
during this paper, we tend to propose a topology style methodology exploitation average rank , that is
calculated by averaging the ranks of all criteria. This methodology needs very little calculation and
therefore the principle of topology analysis is basically straightforward. Through numerical analysis,

Batman And Beowulf Comparison
In the last 50 years, countless heroes have been created or shown through film. One of the most
interesting, modern, fictional heroes that we have seen is the Batman played by Christian Bale,
otherwise known as the Dark Knight in the Dark Knight series. Even after more than a thousand years
since the creation of the epic poem Beowulf, similar characteristics of the character Beowulf are still
seen in fictional heroes such as Batman. Although on the surface Beowulf and Batman seem very
different, many of their basic characteristics are very similar including their motivation, the people
that doubted them, their love for their homeland, and the personal sacrifices that they made for the
greater good. This juxtaposition is proof that humans throughout history have gone through the same
thought process when creating their heroes.
One of the many similarities between Batman and Beowulf is their origins. Batman and Beowulf alike
were born and raised in the city/kingdom that he aimed to protect. Because of this similarity, the ...

In Batman this is more true than in Beowulf, but nonetheless, the archetype remains strong in both
stories. In Beowulf, only one person, a man named Unferth, seems to truly doubt the hero when he
questions his past successes. This dubious man is soon silenced by a simple conversation where
Beowulf proves him wrong. This aspect of both heroes definitely seems to be more complicated with
Batman. Instead of only one or a few people expressing serious doubt in Batman s ability, it is almost
the entire city that expresses concern. Batman only has a few people that believe in him including
Commissioner Gordon, Batman s butler Alfred, and a few citizens of Gotham. Despite their
differences, Batman and Beowulf both contain one of the key elements in a hero s story; people who

Benefit Of Technology Essay
The Abundant Benefits of Technology
On a daily basis, both businesses and individuals rely on technology. It cannot be denied that
technology has become part of our everyday life, as individuals we all depend on technology, either
for education, health purposes, transportation, communication, romantic relationships, and business
growth . It is impossible to explore how each advancement in technology has impacted our lives as
well as how it will impact the future. Technology impacts the environment, people individually, and
the society as a whole.
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further
predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, we can also research any desired topic on our
smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today s schools has been utterly momentous.
Educators have now seen firsthand the benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study
by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators think that technology has a
positive impact on the education process. Educators also recognize the importance of developing these
technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate. By
incorporating technology in the classroom, teachers are setting our students up for a successful life
outside of school. The increase of technology has even changed how teachers teach along with
students learn. Teachers are learning how to teach with emerging

John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government
Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I
will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these
limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle.
There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others.
Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others.
Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be
under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke theorizes
their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more content on

In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of
freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly
free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like,
without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of
nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s
view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no
individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do
so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power
is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government.
For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government
starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate.
Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s
Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative
freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom,
which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a
complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist to harm or foul to
others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be

Planning A Youth Centre Within A Suburb Of 5000 People And...
1. INTRODUCTION
Needs Assessment (NA) is a systematic set of approaches that is used to establish the needs of a
community by identifying; at risk groups, risk factors associated with the health and establishing
resources available in the community that can be used to mitigate the health problem (Lebron et al.
20016, p. 111). NA therefore, requires community participation, is conducted before planning an
intervention and is used to tailor interventions that suit the target population (Lebron et al. 20016, p.
111).
This report will be focusing on approaches a local government will use to establish a youth centre in a
suburb of 5000 people and will focus on:
1. Community Profile
2. 2 Secondary Data sources
3. 2 Approaches of youth engagement and their strengths and limitations
2. COMMUNITY PROFILE
There are certain components of the youth community the council needs to consider when planning a
NA of the youth centre: demographics, marginalised/minority groups, social economic status (SES),
cultural differences and geography, this will enable the council to build a community youth profile
(Jack Holt 2008,p.54 55).
First the council needs to know the range of age and gender of the youth in the community (Jack Holt
2008, p.55). This demographic information will help the council when establishing the youth centre
i.e. know what to include in the centre based on the gender and age differences (Jack Holt 2008, p.54

Intervention For Smoking Cessation Of Smoking
Intervention for Smoking Cessation
The most important intervention for this patient is to quit smoking. This would be very difficult for a
person who smoke for more than 20 years to quit. I would explain to the patient that the best way to
treat her emphysema is to stop smoking. First of all, I will assess on what this patient knows about
smoking cessation. Some smokers may not have a correct information and positive attitude about quit
smoking, which could be the reasons that contribute to the failure of previous attempts of quitting. I
would explain to her that tobacco smoking is responsible for 90 percent of all cases of COPD,
including emphysema (MacGill, 2015). Normally, when particles enter the lung, these particles lands
on a thin layer of mucus inside the lungs. The little hairs, called cilia, help to move mucus and the
particles from the lungs upward toward the throat. This process allows the mucus to be expelled or
swallowed (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Coughing is another way the lungs protect themselves
from irritants in bronchial tubes (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Inhalation of smoke, over times,
will destroy cilia, and they no longer remove mucus effectively. Subsequently, mucus accumulates
inside the lungs causing irritation and coughing (American Thoracic Society, 2015). The most
effective way to stop coughing is to stop smoking.
I would also point out that the patient is developing a condition called Leukoplakia as evidence by

Similarities Between West Runner And Blade Runner
The series Westworld, set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past explores an
amusement park intended for rich vacationers to live their primal fantasies, no matter how noble or
depraved. The park is occupied by hosts, which are mechanical artificial beings programmed and
constructed to be indistinguishable from human beings both physically and intellectually. The series
follows the stories of different individuals in the amusement park both the vacationers, hosts and
scientists. In contrast, Blade Runner is set in the year 2019, where Los Angeles has developed into a
dark and depressing metropolis filled with decay. The film follows Richard Deckard, a retired Blade

The constant manipulation of the hosts by scientists symbolises the immense god like control over
hosts, for example, the continual memory wipes or the decommissioning of a host once it is killed or
escapes the loop. In Blade Runner the only means of control is the limited lifespan granted to
replicants, however, as they are biological sentients unlike hosts they have free will and begin to
question their existence and search for answers. Control is a significant difference between the two
artificial beings, hosts are preprogramed, in essence, they are programmed to speak and act within the
constraints of their given role, with minor improvisations, and this role referred to as a loop can be
modified at any time by a technician. In contrast, replicants in Blade Runner have the freedom to
think, imagine and remember, however, they are set to expire after a certain period. In comparison to
human beings, both of these artificial beings are superior, both intellectually and physically as hosts
are essentially robots and the replicants are genetically modified beings.
Blade Runner presents artificial beings as mortals with enhanced mental and physical capabilities
juxtaposed to Westworld s androids that are presented as immortal beings reborn after death with new
personalities and memories. Ironically, in both texts the perfect and flawless attributes of the artificial
beings are highlighted in

Creation In Genesis And Genesis
How the world people are living in right now was created in the beginning? Humankind has been
asking this question throughout the centuries, and some people throw some answers to this question.
People in Israel answer that God created the heaven and earth in the beginning while Babylonians
answer that Marduk establishes the natural order and dwelling for gods after win a battle. The reason
that these two ethnic groups respond differently is because they have been walked through different
history and worldview. Enuma Elish, which is the Babylonian creation epic, and the book of Genesis
in the Bible, what Israelites believe, shows little similar sense but totally different idea of creation.
From the first part of each writing, book of Genesis and Enuma Elish, the similarity and difference can
be found. In the beginning, the world in both Genesis and Enuma Elish does not have shape. There is
nothing but just emptiness before creation in Genesis: In the beginning God created the heavens and
the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the
Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (New International Version 1:1 2). Enuma Elish also does
not have things to be called but just gods are existed: When on high no name was given to heaven /
Nor below was the netherworld called by name, / Primeval Apsu was their progenitor. / And matrix
Tiamat was she who bore them all, / They were mingling their waters together, / No canebrake was
intertwined nor thicket matted close. / When no gods at all had been brought forth, Nor called by
names, non destinies ordained (Enuma Elish Tablet 1 1 8). Furthermore, both God and gods are
staying in the water in the beginning of the creation. It is interesting that the water is mentioned in
both writings. However, although there are some similarities in both, there is a radical difference
inherent between both stories. Genesis is written and fiducially focusing on the one and only God that
no other god is mentioned. It simply says God creates the world. In contrast, Enuma Elish mentions
two names Apsu and Tiamat and explains that they are the parents of other gods. Two books are
divided into two different ideas of monotheism and

Corporal Punishment Should Be Accepted Into Society
INTRODUCTION Corporal punishment, or otherwise known as spanking, has been a topic of
discussion for many years. Opinions on whether corporal punishment should be accepted into society
have lingered considering there are so many variables that cause people to have diverse opinions about
the subject. It should not be a surprise that most studies prove when parents favor corporal
punishment, they tend to be more likely to use it with their children (Flynn, 1998). Not only does the
age of a person being surveyed affect opinions on physical punishment, but religion is also a huge
factor when it comes to supporting corporal punishment. Multi generations could potentially all have

for parents it was 36.4 years. This left a wide variety of perspectives to be seen within the study.
Although, this study showed no correlation between the age of the respondents to their views on

While in a similar study, people between the age of 20 to 30 years were less likely to use corporal
punishment within their home, unless they received corporal punishment as a child (Schenck, Lyman,

Philadelphia Personal Statement
The city of Philadelphia holds a unique and permanent place in my heart. As an African American
male, I appreciate opportunities that the city of Philadelphia provided me in contrast to my father s
experience up growing in the North Carolina. He attended segregated schools through high school and
when he posed the possibility of attending the University of Syracuse for college to his guidance
counselor, she told him he was too dark skinned to apply to there. As a result he attended all black
institutions for college and law school. While society has changed significantly, I credit the rich and
rigorous opportunities the city has provided me. My teachers at Meredith elementary recognized my
potential at a young age and pushed me to achieve that potential. Central High School provided me
with a public education that allowed me to compete with any student in the country. The University of

Conquering Mental Illness Depression Essays
Depression is a serious issue that countless people struggle with; therefore the majority of physicians
and doctors try to develop drugs, or new counselling techniques to help defeat this terrible foe, but
perhaps neither of these solutions are the answer to defeating depression once and for all. Pam
Houston suggests another solution in her short story A Blizzard under Blue Sky . Houston s story
begins with the narrator being diagnosed with clinical depression, yet she refuses to take medication
offered by the doctor to help her overcome depression. Rather than taking medication, she decided to

parents began talking about the events of that day. They discussed much information as we drove, but
many insignificant topics began to cause my dad to become angry and upset, as he was experiencing
extreme anxiety and stress due to our financial situation added onto many other issues at the time. All
I remember was the yelling as my dad argued over little, insignificant things that were absolutely
irrational. This was the moment I truly realised the that drugs, which were supposed to help my dad s
depression, were causing severe issues that at some times seemed to outweigh the benefits. The
antidepressant my dad was taking, had many side effects that can affect the user s judgement and even
create anxiety problems, which is what happened to my dad. Antidepressant drugs can help some
people, but not all because of the serious side effects this type of medication can cause. If medications
aren t the answer, perhaps therapy and counselling could be a better solution. Like antidepressant
medications, therapy can have its downsides as well and not work for every case of depression. My
dad, who struggles with severe depression, has tried using counselling and other forms of therapy to

Evaluation Of A Clinical Supervision Project
After completing my clinical supervision project, I can reflect on multiple things I have learned about
myself as a supervisor, including my approach to clinical supervision, my conference skills, and my
strengths and weaknesses. I now recognize more than ever that effective supervisors must consistently
self assess their practice and make adjustments as necessary for continuous improvement, just as
effective teachers do.
Throughout the clinical supervision process, it became apparent that I have strengths and weaknesses
that relate to each step of the process. My most notable strengths were related to my conference skills.
For example, I am comfortable working with people, and believe I make others feel comfortable
working with me. I listen well, and genuinely want to help teachers to improve, which I believe comes
across in my communication with teachers. Working with teachers collaboratively seems to yield
effective results, and I was able to develop strong ideas for each teacher, both in terms of goals for
their observations, and their action plans moving forward after their post conferences. During the
observation portion of the project, I believe I showed some strength in collecting data about each
teacher and their classes. I was able to collect a large amount of data in only one class. In theory, I
believe supervisors have the responsibility of getting to know each teacher individually, including
their unique teaching styles and individual areas in need of

Analysis Of The Poem Billy Collins
Introduction to Poetry Billy Collins is known as one of the most popular, successful, and influential
poets in American history. Collins is famously known for addressing his audience directly, mentally
pulling them into the poem, and creating a temporary companionship with the reader. One of the
prominent examples of this style of writing can be examined in his poem, Introduction to Poetry. In
Billy Collins poem, Introduction to Poetry, he plays the role as a teacher, teaching the reader how to
analyze poetry by letting your open mindedness lead you to the meaning of the poem. The title of the
poem can be compared to a beginner English class, such as Poetry 101. Introduction to Poetry is about
a teacher s frustration towards the simple mistake that inexperienced readers make when poetry is first
introduced. Unable to read the poem properly, they often do not capture a poem s natural beauty or
message. Often frustration to interpreting certain pieces of writing leads to the animosity of poetry. In
the poem Collins is contrasting two ways of reading a poem. The first opinion, which is advocated in
the first five stanzas, is of the poet or teacher who describes how he would like readers to read the
poem. The second opinion, which is condemned in the last two stanzas, is of the readers and students
who want to find out as quickly as possible what the poem means. Throughout the poem, there is
heavy use of metaphor for poem . For example, in the first stanza, I ask them to

The Decriminalization Of Victimless Crimes
In society many people are debating whether or not victimless crimes are harmful. Some people
believe there are true victims and particular consequences should follow. Others believe these crimes
are wrong in terms of their morality. The history of victimless crimes, the type of crimes, and society s
view on these crimes can offer evidence as to why these types of crimes are morally wrong and should
be decriminalized. This paper demonstrates that victimless crimes are morally wrong rather than
harmful.
A victimless crime can be described as an act that is illegal, but consensual and lacks a complaining
participant (Veneziano Veneziano, 1993). Those that participate in these types of crimes do so
willingly and without force. Victimless crimes have also been referred to as public order crimes, but
there is debate over whether there are actual victims and whether or not these types of crimes are
harmful (Veneziano, 2014). The common traditional victimless crimes are gambling, prostitution, and
drug use. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

But others argue that sports are a good way to learn social skills and learn to take constructive

If one had to choose , competitive sports should not be open to young children because of all the brain

To start things off , the most important reason children shouldn t be playing competitive sports is

Portrayal Of African Americans During The Film The...
There are many times when people say that everyone has some sort of prejudice towards an ethnic
group. A perfect example is that of the portrayal of races through stereotypes in American films that
are being made and sold to the public. Since the beginning of the silent black and white movies there
have been stereotypes that misrepresent ethnic groups, such as the negative portrayal of African
Americans in minstrel shows. Although these extreme negative racist portrayals have ended, the film
industry still insists on adding stereotypes that negatively portrays ethnic minorities, such as Asian
Americans, Hispanics Americans, and African Americans. In the movie industry, no minority has been
exempt from being negatively portrayed in films, such as the Asian Americans. During the first half of
the 1900 s, Asian Americans were victimized through racist cartoons and movies. Further negative
representation of Asian Americans gained momentum during World War 2, particularly towards
Japanese Americans. Further, in today s modern society, movies often depict Asian Americans through
stereotypes, such as Asian American women being portrayed as sexual objects, the smart Asian, and
the Wise old man who possess infinite wisdom. Asian American women have been continuously being
used as sexual objects on the big screen. Asian and Asian American women in the movies play the role
of being extremely submissive to their male counterparts. This could be noted in many films, such as

The Importance Of Social Cohesion In Football
Summary
Social cohesion between the coach athlete and peer relationships in the sporting context are crucial
when all invested parties of the team must unify to provide the desired responses during competitions.
Understanding coaches and athlete s skills, preferences, abilities, moods, and habits are all critical
pieces to achieving the desired responses. Building team cohesion represents a mutually shared social
understanding where the end goal is to learn about each other to enhance the overall collective
performance. Athletes that share similar competitive game strategies with their coach, make real time
decisions in competition, and can benefit from the social conformity and control can benefit from such
investment towards the cohesive athletic relationship. If not, the team dynamic may complicate the
group cohesiveness unintentionally and possibly assume the presumption that cohesion is superior
over effective athletic talents, skills, and proper coaching.
Coaches must focus on maximizing team member effort, skill, and team level coordination and
strategy, as opposed to managing team dynamics. In highly interdependent situations, disciplined
teams work tirelessly on their ability to carry out the skills and executions as directed through the
coaches instruction. Through the process of continued development, athletic teams can evolve their
strategies in efficiency and creativity during athletic events. This requires a serious investment in
social, coach athlete, and

The limitation of hospice care is focused on the idea of providing delirium patients and their families
with a peaceful encounter of an acceptable death. Moral experience encompasses a person s sense that
values that he or she deems important are being realized or thwarted in everyday life. This includes a
person s interpretations of a lived encounter, or a set of lived encounters, that fall on spectrums of

The History of Iraq Essay
Iraq s history is one of both prosperity and violence, and dates back to the ancient civilizations of

At the end of World War I, the British Empire took control of the land, and imposed a monarchy on

The Adoption Of Islamic Business Practices
The adoption of Islamic business practices by organizations: Why, How and what are the performance

Organizations in most industries face increased competitive pressures from other organizations that
aim to satisfy customer demands. One of the most significant issues that face organizations today is
International competition in rapidly changing environment (Porter, 1986). Competition creates
diverse, new capabilities into an industry and more dynamic and uncertain competitive environment.
In industry the speed of technological developments might have changes due to increased competition
(Wiersema and Bowen, 2008). In most global industry the fast development of products and process
innovations has become very important in order to achieve competitive advantage (Bettis and Hitt,
1995). The expectations of customers are increasing, and to meet the needs of the customer,
organizations are competing with each other. They are looking for ways they can get more profits and
market share. There are many factors to this increased competition, as technology and globalization
have shortened distances and consumers are now aware of more products and services (Frésard and
Valta, 2012). The world is changing rapidly and ways of doing business have also changed.
Globalization and technology have changed the way corporations do work and how they treat their

Animal Transport System
Effective transport systems in multicellular plants and animals, although with apparent differences,
have similarities as they all possess a system of vessels in which substances are transported, a driving
mechanism to ensure that substances move in the correct direction and importantly, a suitable
transport medium.
What is transport medium and which chemicals are carried around your body? (Make sure you are
talking about main ones and their form)
Blood is the fluid transport that flows through the heart and blood vessel of the cardiovascular system
in vertebrates. Blood distributes heat around the body, as well as the nutrients and gases required by
the body and the wastes to be excreted from the body. It also carries other chemicals such as
hormones, glucose, and oxygen for aerobic respiration, antibodies to fight infections, clotting factors
and many other substances required by the body to function efficiently.

composition of blood cells and plasma remain relatively the same but the concentration of dissolved
substances and gases change depending on the organ it s passing through. There are a number of

underwater communications, motion control, dynamics modeling as well as simulation system is
neede3d to be touched. These issues are needed to be resolved through a spiral development process
which is included at sea experimentation. To provide a simulation system platform for designing and
debugging problems of motion controller, a 3 Degree of Freedom (3 DOF) dynamic model for AUV is
examined. Based on a dynamic model controlled by thruster and fin with appendages, a simulation
system is established and motion performance is analyzed. Also an implementation of active
submarine warfare is tested. Signal processing capabilities and adaptive behavior were analyzed via
simulation. The results demonstrate that AUV has good maneuverability with or without appendages.
The implications for underwater surveillance are discussed in both simulation and experimental
context.

Gandhi soon realised that several practises in tradition of India that are not defensible. The last two decades of his career (1927 1947) represent a progressive movement towards a radical critique of caste. Greater emphasis was laid on social equality, justified with an appeal. It was related to the traditional Hindu concept of Advaita , or the spiritual oneness of all being. The caste system s most vicious feature, he argued, is that it has upheld the idea of inherited superiority, there is nothing common in between Varnaashrama and caste.(Dalton:1993). A tremendous changed occurred in Gandhi s concept of caste and in 1945 Gandhi s endeavour was that Hindus should regard themselves as a member of same performing Varna. • 4. Essay on Analysis of Cavemen in the Hedges Chase Thomas Prof. Julia Elliot English 282 November 15, 2011 The Cavemen in the Hedges The Cavemen in the Hedges is a short story that contains many underlying themes of psychoanalytical theory. Themes of the id, a selfish, primal, version of one s self concerned only with physical desires; the superego, part of a person s psyche that is only worried about ideals and morals; and the ego, the rational part of the brain that attempts to satisfy both the id and superego natures make up an immense proportion of the breakdown of this story. Repression and other psychological defense mechanisms are also very important in the analysis as well. The first display of the id is that of the cavemen themselves. Our cavemen are ... This is seen in several of our characters at times, but it is without a doubt personified in the annoying neighbors, the Schaefers. Evan and Winsome are described as New Age hippies and over friendly . Their dress reminds me of how a choir robe would look. These two are the type of people that believe everything has a spirit and every creature should be cared for. While having dinner with our main characters, Winsome begins to get teary eyed over having found a newborn cavebaby that had died in their backyard. She shows compassion for this abandoned creature, one of the greatest emotions expressed in terms of the superego. When Kim declares that she doesn t understand how Winsome could possibly cry for these things and that they are disgusting , Winsome thinks Kim is being judgmental. This is an archetypal viewpoint of the superego, as she says this with almost a condescending tone in her voice. The Schaefers appear to be a moral, sensitive couple that cares deeply for all manner of peoples and this supremely annoys Kim and the narrator. The reason they are so put off by their neighbors is that they are uncomfortable with themselves in comparison to the Schaefers. The Schaefers are happily married ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Franklin had initially left DNA at the crime scene, but because he wasn t in CODIS (the FBI s Combined DNA Index System) investigators hit a dead end. Finally, in 2010 they found a partial match (15/16 alleles): one of Franklin s offspring. This led them right to Franklin where they collected DNA and compared it to the sample taken from the crime scene and matched it. This is one of the most convincing success stories of familial searching; finding a serial killer and bringing him to justice almost a decade after the murders is an outstanding accomplishment for a police department, so many others are following their lead and experimenting with the technique. But, as of the end of 2016, only nine states allow it (McBride, 2016). Because of the many recorded successes of this technique, many people are advocating for its use, especially family members of victims whose killers have never been identified. One example of an advocate is the family of Katrina Vetrano, a 30 year old woman from New York who was murdered last summer (Rosenberg, 2017). Salinger and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini are both significant literary merits narrated by characters, Amir and Holden, who are both longing for the acquisition of innocence. Both of these characters journeys are portrayed through foreshadowing, irony, and the characters inability to face reality. However, The Catcher in the Rye is cynical and bitter while The Kite Runner is full of sorrow and remorse. In The Kite Runner, the narrator starts off by setting the scene and stating that this was the moment that he became who he is today. Amir, the main character, is peering into an alley, crouched behind a mud wall. The narrator does not elaborate much past that, there is no context to the situation and leaves the reader wanting an explanation. Later, however, the scene reappears. Not only does the scene resurfaces, but, it becomes the setting for the main conflict in the book and ultimately Amir s life, the raping of Hassan, his best friend. This is the moment where all innocence is lost and leaves Amir fighting to regain what he has quickly lost. This scene is also just after the last time Amir will see Hassan smile until years later, in a polaroid picture. This use of foreshadowing indicates Hassan s death, which does not happen until towards the end of the book. From the reader s perspective, knowing that this is the last time Amir sees Hassan happy and alive portrays a very sorrowful tone. The Catcher in the Rye is similar in ... In addition, I will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle. There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others. Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others. In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate. Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. This would be very difficult for a person who smoke for more than 20 years to quit. I would explain to the patient that the best way to treat her emphysema is to stop smoking. First of all, I will assess on what this patient knows about smoking cessation. Some smokers may not have a correct information and positive attitude about quit smoking, which could be the reasons that contribute to the failure of previous attempts of quitting. I would explain to her that tobacco smoking is responsible for 90 percent of all cases of COPD, including emphysema (MacGill, 2015). Normally, when particles enter the lung, these particles lands on a thin layer of mucus inside the lungs. The little hairs, called cilia, help to move mucus and the particles from the lungs upward toward the throat. This process allows the mucus to be expelled or swallowed (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Coughing is another way the lungs protect themselves from irritants in bronchial tubes (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Inhalation of smoke, over times, will destroy cilia, and they no longer remove mucus effectively. Subsequently, mucus accumulates inside the lungs causing irritation and coughing (American Thoracic Society, 2015). The most effective way to stop coughing is to stop smoking. From the first part of each writing, book of Genesis and Enuma Elish, the similarity and difference can be found. In the beginning, the world in both Genesis and Enuma Elish does not have shape. There is nothing but just emptiness before creation in Genesis: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (New International Version 1:1 2). Enuma Elish also does not have things to be called but just gods are existed: When on high no name was given to heaven / Nor below was the netherworld called by name, / Primeval Apsu was their progenitor. / And matrix Tiamat was she who bore them all, / They were mingling their waters together, / No canebrake was intertwined nor thicket matted close. / When no gods at all had been brought forth, Nor called by names, non destinies ordained (Enuma Elish Tablet 1 1 8). Furthermore, both God and gods are staying in the water in the beginning of the creation. It is interesting that the water is mentioned in both writings. However, although there are some similarities in both, there is a radical difference inherent between both stories. Genesis is written and fiducially focusing on the one and only God that no other god is mentioned. It simply says God creates the world. In contrast, Enuma Elish mentions two names Apsu and Tiamat and explains that they are the parents of other gods. Two books are divided into two different ideas of monotheism and ... • 25. Corporal Punishment Should Be Accepted Into Society INTRODUCTION Corporal punishment, or otherwise known as spanking, has been a topic of discussion for many years. Opinions on whether corporal punishment should be accepted into society have lingered considering there are so many variables that cause people to have diverse opinions about the subject. It should not be a surprise that most studies prove when parents favor corporal punishment, they tend to be more likely to use it with their children (Flynn, 1998). Not only does the age of a person being surveyed affect opinions on physical punishment, but religion is also a huge factor when it comes to supporting corporal punishment. Conquering Mental Illness Depression Essays Depression is a serious issue that countless people struggle with; therefore the majority of physicians and doctors try to develop drugs, or new counselling techniques to help defeat this terrible foe, but perhaps neither of these solutions are the answer to defeating depression once and for all. Pam Houston suggests another solution in her short story A Blizzard under Blue Sky . Houston s story begins with the narrator being diagnosed with clinical depression, yet she refuses to take medication offered by the doctor to help her overcome depression. I now recognize more than ever that effective supervisors must consistently self assess their practice and make adjustments as necessary for continuous improvement, just as effective teachers do. Throughout the clinical supervision process, it became apparent that I have strengths and weaknesses that relate to each step of the process. My most notable strengths were related to my conference skills. For example, I am comfortable working with people, and believe I make others feel comfortable working with me. I listen well, and genuinely want to help teachers to improve, which I believe comes across in my communication with teachers. Working with teachers collaboratively seems to yield effective results, and I was able to develop strong ideas for each teacher, both in terms of goals for their observations, and their action plans moving forward after their post conferences. Collins is famously known for addressing his audience directly, mentally pulling them into the poem, and creating a temporary companionship with the reader. One of the prominent examples of this style of writing can be examined in his poem, Introduction to Poetry. In Billy Collins poem, Introduction to Poetry, he plays the role as a teacher, teaching the reader how to analyze poetry by letting your open mindedness lead you to the meaning of the poem. The title of the poem can be compared to a beginner English class, such as Poetry 101. Introduction to Poetry is about a teacher s frustration towards the simple mistake that inexperienced readers make when poetry is first introduced. Unable to read the poem properly, they often do not capture a poem s natural beauty or message. Often frustration to interpreting certain pieces of writing leads to the animosity of poetry. In the poem Collins is contrasting two ways of reading a poem. The first opinion, which is advocated in the first five stanzas, is of the poet or teacher who describes how he would like readers to read the poem. The second opinion, which is condemned in the last two stanzas, is of the readers and students who want to find out as quickly as possible what the poem means. This paper demonstrates that victimless crimes are morally wrong rather than harmful. A victimless crime can be described as an act that is illegal, but consensual and lacks a complaining participant (Veneziano Veneziano, 1993). Those that participate in these types of crimes do so willingly and without force. A perfect example is that of the portrayal of races through stereotypes in American films that are being made and sold to the public. Since the beginning of the silent black and white movies there have been stereotypes that misrepresent ethnic groups, such as the negative portrayal of African Americans in minstrel shows. Athletes that share similar competitive game strategies with their coach, make real time decisions in competition, and can benefit from the social conformity and control can benefit from such investment towards the cohesive athletic relationship. If not, the team dynamic may complicate the group cohesiveness unintentionally and possibly assume the presumption that cohesion is superior over effective athletic talents, skills, and proper coaching.
