Mail Troubles of the Civil War
Mail Troubles of the Civil War The nation s communication system was cut in two when the civil
war began in 1861. Mail was very important in boosting most soldier s morale. Writing letters was
soldier s link between Civil War camps and battlefields and back home (Civil War). Many
soldiers had never been this far from home and would often feel very homesick. Staying in touch
with their loved ones helped them from getting too sad and reminded them that they weren t
forgotten. Some of them wrote home weekly and used much of their free time writing. (Civil
War). A letter from home could be tucked close to soldiers hearts to be read when feeling homesick
(Civil War). Many also carried letters to be sent to loved ones if they were to die... Show more

Confederate postage was then no longer accepted by the Northern postal services, and if
received was to be forwarded to the Dead Letter Office to be returned to senders (Nation
Divided). To overcome this issue, the southern states created their own postal service. John H.
Reagan became their postmaster general and changed 8,535 of the United States 28,586 post
offices to confederate leadership (Confederate Postal System). He tried to employ southern
supporters from the U.S. Post Office so they could bring maps, reports, forms and plans that
could help jumpstart the new postal service (Confederate Postal System). Beginning using U.S.
money and postage, they soon ran into more problems as result to North attempting to even
further punish the South for seceding. U.S. postage issued before the war was stripped of its
value to ensure that stamps in Confederate hands would be valueless (Nation Divided). The North
began producing new postage to be accepted only in the Union territory. The South, now without
a form of postage, had to create their own postage system. While this postage system was in the
making, local postmasters issued provisional stamps or wrote paid on envelopes (Nation Divided).
Confederate stamps were available in October of 1861 (Confederate Postal System). The stamps
were printed several places

Given To Fly Eddie Vedder Meaning
In 1991 when Eddie Vedder wrote and performed his album Ten, he knew he was competing with
the big time grunge band; Nirvana. Once it hit the stage it was clear there was no competition.
Eddie s deep, emotional messages throughout this album, his shaky, raspy voice that transfers from
screaming lyrics to soft, poetic like speaking. All tied together with his hard to hate persona that
can be heard throughout this album and every album made by Eddie Vedder.
In the song Given To Fly Eddie says He got up out of there, ran for hundreds of miles / He made
it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree / The wind rose up, set him down on his knee. In this verse
Eddie is describing his life and how he needs to get away from it all and just have a peaceful
break, alone. Vedder likes to use his life in third person in most of his songs to make his message
more distant, and almost more easily relatable. The song Given To Fly is actually a second or a
reference to the song Going to California By Led Zeppelin and how just leaving might help out
more than anything. Throughout the album there are several different songs with an abundance
of different meanings. The song, Alive, has one of the deepest messages that is tied to his life
personally. The song is about a boy that finds out that who he thought was his father, is actually
his stepfather and his real father is dead. Eddie said the song is a work of fiction based on reality
(SK) . When Vedder was born his mom had left his father and

The West Virginia Poison Control
After the past tragedies that have hit the Mountaineer community this fall; I consumed myself in
wondering what could ve been done to change the outcome. What if your best friend read the
directions wrong and took something s/he shouldn t have, wouldn t you want to know how to save
them? Nearly 40 percent of college students engage in binge drinking, heavy drinking such as this
is directly related with injury, health problems, and a decline in academic performance (Random
Control). This is so relevant in colleges that most resident assistance are expected to serve as first
aid providers, but the reality is no program exists for them to take (resident assistant training). If the

Mainly you need to know what the WVPC does, so if you get caught in a bad situation you
know if you call them they can help. You also need to know and embrace their new movement,
stop searching just call (McBurne). This wonderful, untapped source of knowledge, known as
the WVPC, handles over 40,000 phone calls a year (McBurney). These calls can involve
anything from serious overdoses to common questions on ingredients and allergies. The WVPC
is staffed with medical specialist (doctors and nurses), as McBurney says, Our specialists are
trained medical experts that handle your calls twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
Calling one of these trained medical professionals is all you would need to access an
emergency; while medical personnel are on their way you can be receiving information on drug
overdoses or alcohol poisoning. This extra knowledge could be what it takes to save someone s
life. Even if you are working with chemicals in a class laboratory the WVPC is useful; if you get
some chemical in your mouth and you don t realize it, you can contact the WVPC to diagnose
side effects of the chemicals you were working with. The public, faculty, and students are able to
do this because on top of medical professionals there are over 100 different specialists

The Use Of A Computer Or Itc System
Ransomware is a malware that restricts the use of a computer or ITC system, displays a message
on a computer screen that states the system has been locked or encrypted and that the only way
to re gain the use of the computer or system is through the payment of a ransom which is often
$200 $400 (United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team, 2016). This type of attack can
install other malware as users attempt to click out of the message screen or to follow the
directions which tell the user to click here to pay the ransom. Victims may pay the cybercriminal in
Bitcoin and re gain the use of their computer or system. Some victims pay and do not get their use
back while others choose not to pay but must suffer through downtime and... Show more content on

Ransomware is often perpetrated by gangs and other criminals outside the U.S. making it very
difficult to locate and prosecute those involved. The incidents of ransomware are expected to
increase throughout 2017. Experts believe that smartphones and organizations using cloud
based data storage will be targeted. McAfee Labs sees mobile malware continuing its growth in
2017, with ransomware, banking Trojans, and remote access tools among the leading threats
(McAfee Labs, 2017). Smartphones are used by a high percentage of the population in their
personal lives and many use them as part of their employment. If a hacker or hacker group were
to extract the cell phone numbers or email addresses of FBI agents they may be able to lock
several devices prior to detection or extract information from their phone. Data Breaches In 2016
Cyber criminals continued to hack into company and government databases to extract personal
and propriety information (PPI). Many different modes of operation were likely used to penetrate
the ICT systems and in many incidents it is unknown if the hacker wished to gain financially or
embarrass the target into providing better cybersecurity to prevent the information from falling
into the hands of someone who could do a great deal of damage with the data gained. The

Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools
At the foundation of the American public school system is the belief that every child deserves a
quality education. To this end, the public school system in America has undergone many reforms.
One of which has been charter schools. Charter schools are independent public schools of choice
working under the auspices of a charter and not governed by the board of education. The charter can
be written by parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, educational businesses,
etc. It determines the school s guiding principles, management and accountability systems. The
state approves the charter and provides funding for the school. Families choose these schools for
their children. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Charter schools differ from traditional public
schools on three basic principles: accountability, choice and autonomy. Charter schools are held
accountable for their ability to educate students, management of finances and handle operations. If
they do not meet the guidelines established by the charter they are closed. They give families a
choice as to what school their children will attend. Finally, charter schools have more autonomy
than traditional public schools. They are able to make their own decisions regarding curriculum
and school governance and can focus on academic achievement instead of bureaucracy. (
Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Ray Budde first introduced the idea of charter schools in the
United States in 1974.

Faith In Conspiracy Theories
What if we didn t really land on the moon and Abraham Lincoln was a time traveling extra
terrestrial who profited from the war in Iraq. Some conspiracy theories are far out and some are
surprisingly believable, but it s interesting how easy it is to get so involved in them that one doesn
t know what or whom to trust anymore. In the dictionary, conspiracy is defined as, a secret plan by
a group to do something unlawful or harmful. People have faith in conspiracy theoriesbecause they
find a certain comfort in knowing that they cannot be proven wrong (or correct), and humans need
compensation on the unknown or shady and what better way to compensate than to blame the
government. One theory that s pretty out there is one stating that the snow

RUNNGHEAD: LANGUAGE AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT ESSAY
Language and Literacy Development Essay

Early Literacy Development (O101) ECH 425

Language and Literacy Essay The achievement of oral language is a normal development for the
performance of most children. The child s (ren) understanding to communicate will began to
increase with age, however, it will not establish the growth increase process right away but it will
contribute to the perfection progress as the children starts to read and transform into a more

When children experience early speech difficulties they tend to be at risk later on. By being
susceptible to language skills early on allows the child (ren) to be more proficiency and react in a
way that contributes to them being able to express themselves in a way that causes them to use a
variety of different phonemes and at the same time mix and maneuver other language and literacy
skills. Numerous studies have found that there is a strong link between language problems, reading
and overall academic achievement (Konza, 2006, Snow Burns and Griffin, 1998, Justice and Ezell,
2000). Constructive early language and literacy development can be an ally to opening a child s
(ren) imagination; this will enhance and empower their potential to become successful readers. As
the children grow (birth to 3 yrs. old) their brain goes through an extradinary developmental process
and they begin to think, learn, communicate and rationalize things. When this early developmental
stage is not being nourished the child will feel the affects of it in the long run. Children that come
from low income families that are enrolled in schools are affected the most. Educators and parents
can assist these children by giving them the support (early on) that they need to sustain a healthy
learning environment. As educators it is our duty to create an environment that will help in this
process. In conclusion, generally in language and literacy development skills for the

Immigration And The Issue Of Immigration
My current event is on the issue of Immigration and Refugees that is going on in our society.
Immigrants have been the back bone of what made America great. This country is supposed to be
the land of opportunity. For the people that come here that is all that they hear. Wanting a fresh start
from whatever country they came from. The NASW (2015) said that Immigrationhas increased
rapidly in the 1990s, with more than 13 million people moved to the United States(p.176).
Immigrants and Refugees is an issue that has been talked about for many years. In 1965 the
Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments provided a sweeping change in immigration law.
The national origins system was abolished and a new set of priorities for admitting immigrants
was adopted (NASW, 2015, p. 176). So Immigration has been a part of our culture, American
society, and policy making for a long time now. It is talked about today even with during our
Presidential campaign for 2016. The problems with Immigrants and Refugees coming to America
came to issue when Donald Trump said he would deport all undocumented immigrants in the
United States which is an estimated 11 million people (Saunt, 2015). In this article the Author
Claudio Saunt made it his effort to explain that is a horrible idea. Saunt (2015) wrote in his article
that In the past American cities and countries in the Southwest and Midwest tried to expel Mexican
Americans once before in the 1930s, and it was a traumatic result for the

Descriptive Essay On A Tornado
The Tornado
I was playing outside on a hot, late afternoon in August. My mother and grandmother were in the
house. My dad was at work. I was five.
In the time it took to bend down, pick up the ball, and stand, the day changed. No birds sang, no
insects buzzed, nothing. There s no wind, I said aloud. It seemed as if the earth had sucked in all
the air around me. The hair on my arms stood up. The poplar leaves hung still.
I looked around me slowly, as if in a dream. Across Palmer s fields, where the sun went down, the
sky had darkened. I started walking there, towards the west. The tall grass in front of me was still.
I could hear myself breathing. The farmland shimmered in slow motion stillness. The sky changed
colour. Now, it was green.
The screen door slammed. It made a loud crack in the silence. Whirling around, I saw my mother
coming onto the front porch. She yelled something. Her hair was blowing. Her apron was
blowing against her. Wind! I looked back to the west, and there was the storm clawing its way
into the sky above me. I stood staring, held by its power. The wind felt wild. It rolled around me. I
loved it.
From almost another world, I heard my mother yell, Tara May Stewart, you get in this house right
now!
I didn t want to go. I wanted to stay, rooted to this fierce place. The dog came bounding, Get
moving, he said, tongue lolling, eyes wide, his body banging against my legs.
My grandmother now stood next to my mother, thin arms waving. Her tiny frame was lashed by
her apron strings, her bony knees swaying. The wind pushed me towards them until I had to run or
be thrown to the ground. The rain came slashing at my legs, and by the time my feet hit the porch
steps, I could hardly keep myself upright.
My mother grasped my arms in fear and anger, pulling me into the house. Once inside, she pushed
her whole body against the heavy front door until it finally shut. I heard the lock snap into place
against the rain and wind.
Get downstairs, she shouted. The door to the root cellar was already open. It leaned against the
side of the cellar closet. Grandma climbed down the wooden stairs first, then me. My sister was
already down there. My mother came down last, pulling the hinged door over us.

Germany Vs Usaaf Case Study
During the Second World War, the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) and Royal Air Force (RAF)
adopted two different strategic attack missions against Germany. While USAAF preferred daylight
precision targeting attacks, RAF preferred night area bombing missions. Although both sides
shared same goals, their interpretation about strategic effects of airpower was different. For better
understanding these differences, this paper first will analyze strategic applications of USAAF and
RAF, and then will clarify why USAAF s approach was more effective way of utilizing airpower as
an instrument of national policy.

These strategists thought shaped British aerial warfare policy. For example, Douhet says, bombing
objectives should always be large; small targets are unimportant and do not merit our attention
here. Also, Douhet model addresses aerial punishment to inflict considerable pain on enemy
civilians to shatter their morale. RAF put his model into practice during WWII. In that case,
British focused on morale of German workers. The British bombing campaign was chiefly waged
by night by large numbers of heavy bombers. British knew that to influence into deep Germany
territory was tough and daylight precision bombing had also much more difficulties. In addition,
Royal Air Force s accuracy in bombing was very low during the interwar period. For instance, in
March 1932, only half of the Royal Air Force bombs hit the right target. In that respect, British
continued in night attacks and the majority of the attacks on cities. British thought was that general
area offensive would affect considerably war effort. But, there was not agreement in royal air
force about targeting priority. British officials criticized due to negative moral effects, and
political risks. While British air staff emphasized loyalty and mutual respect, chief of bomber point

The National Health Service Within The United Kingdom
Introduction to the Organisation The National Health Service within the United Kingdom refers
to the publically funded body with a variety of healthcare related statutory responsibilities. This
covers numerous individual services around the country, all of which must be able to provide a
level of service both emergency and non emergency to the public. The NHS was formed in 1948
after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation
that millions of individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the
performance of the NHS is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the
body is funded by taxpayer s money. The services offered by the organisation are also of extreme
importance in regards to public health, and as such, it is crucial that such an organisation has an
effective business continuity plan in order to maintain these services to the highest possible level
in front of unexpected disasters or failures. Legal Duties There are a number of legal
responsibilities placed upon the NHS in regards to business continuity and unexpected events. The
Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a legal requirement on all Category 1 Responders to have
Business Continuity Plans in place to ensure that the emergency element of the service can still be
run to an acceptable level regardless of disruption. The BS NHS 25999 Business Continuity

The Rise of Democracy and the Threat of Persia occurred during the sixth century BCE however, it
mirrors the issues of the Americas and Great Britain in the sixteenth nineteenth century. In 508 BCE
the Athenian aristocrat Cleisthenes instituted the first Athenian political democracy. The Athenian
had endured 50 years of tyranny under the Pisistratus rule. America also was under a tyranny and
wanted to be independent of the monarchy of Britain. As we all know this led to the Revolutionary

Klhl3 Gene Essay
The KLHL3 gene (Kelch like family member 3) creates a protein that works in conjunction with
proteasomes to degrade unwanted proteins via an ubiquitin proteasome system. KLHL3 is mainly
expressed in the cerebellum and the distal collecting tubule in the kidneys (3). is Though expressed
in the KLHL3 proteinhas a N terminal BTB domain, a C terminal that has Ketch like repeats, and a
BACK domain, forming a conformation that is a bladed beta propeller structure (1). The protein
produced by this geneis part of a complex (E3 ubiquitin ligase), which functions to indicate
damaged and additional proteins by labelling these with ubiquitin, which is the tag later recognized
by proteasomes for breakdown (4). This labelling is possible with the... Show more content on

Mutations for KLHL3 that cause disease all involve missense mutations, resulting in a different
amino acid, again noting the inability to interact with substrates (7). One mutation, for example,
resulted in a cytosine to thymine nucleotide change at codon 410, changing from a serine to a
leucine amino acid. This change in polarity, moving from a polar to nonpolar amino acid, disrupts
regular formation of the E3 complex, not allowing for ubiquitin attachment. These missense
mutations often inhibit the ability of the KLHL3 protein to form the E3 ubiquitin ligase complex,
and so this prevents the normal function of identifying extraneous and damaged proteins, resulting
in an excess of WNK4, due to no protein degradation as a result of the inability to tag these excess
proteins. This inability to form the complex in some mutations is a result of the cluster of serine
residues that were affected by the mutation, building up on the propeller domains, disrupting
interactions with substrate and/or altering protein structure, though it is more common to see one
or the other (6). This leads to high blood pressure, due to no control over WNK4 concentrations in
the blood. It was commented on that the majority of mutations affected the ability of the KLHL3 to
associate with the rest of the complex, therefore unable to

An induction programme is the process used within many businesses to welcome new employees to
the company and prepare them for their new role. Human Resource Managers should provide the
new employee with necessary and important information about the business. The induction process
is the first step in building a relationship between you and the new colleague/s.
Why is Recruitment Needed?
Recruitment is tremendously important in any organisation, but recruiting new staff is very costly
and can take time. Recruiting in most businesses can go wrong dramatically; this is because the

The White Working Class That Caused These Problems
Was it really the White working class that caused these problems? Or was it the companies that
outsourced their jobs overseas? The white working class are also known as the hillbillies. They
are people who have gone through a lot of suffering but also have made a lot problems on their
own. While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out,
I m unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and
loosing their sense of hope has led them to follow Donald Trumps campaign because he
sympathizes with them and promises them economic and social changes. These families have
struggled with poverty, domestic violence, drugs, and unemployment. One of those families was
J.D. Vance s family. Vance grew up in the Rust Belt of Ohio, into a struggling, poor, abusive
family. Vance escaped his hardships by enrolling into the Military and going to school.
However, other people weren t as lucky as he was to get out, other families were still stuck in
Hillbilly Middletown. Things were going good for these families until the 1970s and 1980s came
along. This is when things took a toll, industrial jobs were cut, causing a down ward spiral for
everyone in Ohio. This is when the alcoholism, drug use, and domestic violence became a norm.
For about a century, the region seemed to be on a upward spiral. Middletown s streets today are
full of shuttered storefronts and drug dealers, (Rothman,New Yorker).

opportunities for organisations. Conversely they can place obligations and duties on organisations.
Political factors include the following types of instrument:
Legislation such as the minimum wage or anti discrimination laws.
Voluntary codes and practices
Market regulations
Trade agreements, tariffs or restrictions
Tax levies and tax breaks
Type of government regime e.g. communist, democratic, dictatorship
Non conformance with legislative obligations can lead to sanctions such as fines, adverse publicity
and imprisonment. Ineffective voluntary codes and practices will often lead to governments
introducing legislation to regulate the activities covered by the codes and practices.
Economical
The second element of a PEST analysis involves a study of economic factors. All businesses are
affected by national and global economic factors. National (and global) interest rates and fiscal
policy is set around economic conditions. The climate of the economy dictates how consumers,
suppliers and other organisational stakeholders such as suppliers and creditors behave within
society. An economy undergoing recession will have high unemployment, low spending power and
low stakeholder confidence. Conversely a booming or growing economy will have low
unemployment, high spending power and high stakeholder

The As A Metaphor For The State Of A Nation Essay
In what ways does the figure of the child serve as a metaphor for the state of a nation?
In China s quest for modernity, the figure of the child transcended its biological definition. It took
on a symbolic metaphorical form of rejuvenation used to revitalize the state of a nation facing
extinction. After the Opium Wars, Chinese intellectuals had started to become aware of Chinas
weakness on the world stage. By 1900, defeat in the Sino Japanese War, the failure of the Boxer
Rebellion and the humiliating treaties that followed, made it clear to all. The old empire was in
decline with the inadequacies of tradition exposed. A critique of the Confucian Doctrine, had begun.
China needed to rejuvenate, rewriting the weaknesses of the old empire into a youthful nation. The
questioning of nationhood coincided with a rising class of literati learning outside of China. Those
such as Liang Qichao, believed that the huge gap between China and the West was not because of
race but different educational systems within which, the education of children was vital. Ideas of
Social Darwinism and the survival of the nation spread, furthering the symbolism of the child
through the prism of the nation. Reformers in this class fervently critiqued the Civil Service
Examination system in relation to foreign aggression. Lin Shu denotes, thousands of literati were
trained to be familiar with Confucian classics and historical books, but they had no ability to deal
with invaders. In this way,

Veterans Transition Essay
Coming home to nothing; no help, no support, no job, and no one to talk to about their personal
experiences while being deployed. This type lifestyle is something veterans face on a day to day
basis. Transitioning back into society can be difficult, but we as Americans should help them make
this extensive change. The introduction of the book For Love of Country, written by Howard
Schultz and Rajiv Chandrasekaran inspired me to look more into how the American society helps
those who sacrifice their lives so our lives can be free. The introduction also helped with the theme
of veterans and one topic question. What are the common repercussions of veterans leaving the
army and what can American society do to help them? When I first started to research about how
the American society helps discharged soldiers, I first wanted to know what type of help society
offer to them. The article 10 Organizations that Help Veterans Transition to Civilian Life published
by Vista College helped me view a plethora of organizations that offer help to veterans. The Iraq and
Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) organization helps connect veterans to one another and

How Technology Has Changed The Way People Communicate
When I used to come across with articles on technologies, it always used to draw my attention. In
last decade technology has significantly changed the way people communicate. As more
businesses use technology to communicate,. In today s competitive environment , every company
s main criteria is to know more about lean/six sigma and such methodology to help in attaining
smoother operability and optimum results for better customer satisfaction. IT was always a
curiosity for me that how people are connected with each other in the big world. How it is so easy
to message a friend in an instant with modern devices. My curiosity grew and my utter interest high
scores in subjects like maths and science made me take a decision on opting electronics and
communication in my engineering. It is a field rich with opportunities. Therefore, I decided after
schools to study engineering. And learn the basics of technology.
The curriculum included Digital Signal Processing, Integrated Circuit Application, Computer
Networks, Digital Communication, System Programming of theories in practice through lab work
and projects. Though technological proficiency and creative genius are the internal strengths of an
enterprise, another determinant of success in competition in an environment full of uncertainties is
possession of management skills. From the MS program in Engineering Management I look
forward gaining the knowledge and skills in courses, such as Concepts of Financial and

One easily identified feature in the Sikh temple was the way alter was set up with special lights
and decoration. I have seen this sort of set up in many Indian movies, and also in Hindu temples.
The Hindu temples have pretty much the same style for the temple alter but the only difference
is instead of Sikh holy book we have statues of Gods instead. The second identifiable feature was
the Kara Parshad given at the end of the service. This is very important part to visitors visiting
the Sikh temple as very one waited patiently for their turn to get the kara parshad and in Hindu

is done to express their regards and respect for the Holy Scripture, the one True King. The king
commanded the greatest power, there for was given the maximum respect and honor in the olden
days. Guru Nanak (the first guru) said that the true kings are those who love God and help others to
do that as well. They are the rulers of people s heart. These political kings are temporary kings
and their authority ends when they meet their death. But the Gurus are the true kings and they

the spirit of all the Sikh Gurus and many other holy men whose hymns are included in it. The

Advantages Of Montessori Teaching Method
What is the best way to teach children? This is a question that people have been asking since they
began teaching. There are a plethora of teaching methods that have been tried and used throughout
history. Each method claims to be the best, but can they be supported through a Christian world
view? The Montessori teaching method teaches children to be independent and teach themselves.
While large or whole group instruction feeds on the child s sheep like nature in following what
their peers are doing and teaches every student the same lesson at the same time. Montessori and
large group instruction are two teaching methods that are proven to work and can be trusted and
used with a Christian perspective. The Montessori teaching method that has been around since
1907. Dr. Maria Montessori was the first woman to earn a physician s degree in Italy. After
graduating she taught a class of fifty students and developed her own way of teaching. She
believed that children were born with absorbent minds and were fully capable of self directed
learning. Montessori developed the framework for a prepared educational environment in which
children, empowered with the freedom to choose how they would spend their time in school, would
seek out opportunities to learn on their own (5 Alternative Teaching Methods). Montessori

Cannabis Infused In Tea
Aim:
The FACING study is designed to test the hypothesis that cannabis infused in tea will increase
blood ghrelin levels as significantly as fasting does. We will randomise patients to (a) administer
cannabis tea or (b) undergo fasting. The results of this study will lead to future interventions for
patients with weight related conditions.
Research Plan: Participants
Patients will be eligible for the study if they are between 18 to 50 years of age and have no
previous use of cannabis (cannabis naive). Patients will be required to have a diastolic blood
pressure equal to/higher than 90 mmHg or a systolic blood pressure equal to/lower than 140 (Tam
et al., 2011). All patients will be required to provide written informed consent to participate in the
study. The protocol will need to be approved by the institutional review boards and ethic
committees.
Patients will be excluded from the proposed study if they are diabetics as cannabis has the ability
to induce glucose intolerance (Muniyappa et al., 2013). Patients who are younger than 18 years old
will also be excluded from this study since cannabis use can cause deterioration of neurocognitive
function in attention and memory (Jacobus Tapert, 2014). It will also alter the macrostructural

The Rise of the Surface to Air Missile The Soviet Union s ballistic missiles and long range
bombers became a great threat to the United States of America, after tensions between the two
intensified, following World War II. The US was afraid that the Soviet Union would attack and
there would be no war fighting equipment available to intercept the threat. (Nike, n.d) The
North American Air Defense Command developed the Nike Ajax, which stood as a high altitude
defense system. It was the last line of air defense, which was beneficial because it extended
America s level of protection. As time passed, there was a need for a more powerful, faster and
bigger missile. As a result, the US created the new and improved Nike Hercules missile, which
began replacing the Nike Ajax missiles. (Bender, 2004) The evolution of the first surfaced to air

The Death Of An Idol. A Day Like Any Other, A High School
The Death of an Idol
A day like any other, a high school student, Karissa Rider, tried to catch up on some much needed

the gossip of the day. The previous day April 5, 1994, something happened that would change the
life of every music fan alive. Kurt Cobain, lead singer of the popular grunge band, Nirvana, had
overdosed on heroin and shot himself.
Cobain was only twenty seven when he committed suicide(Johnson). Frontman of Nirvana, what

music industry in the nineties and onward. He made several strides to push music further and

As a child Karissa was very into music as most children are. Although she did not very much care
for Cobain at the time she cites Prince as one of her biggest idols in the musical field, comparing
him to Cobain in several ways. As an adult she sees many similarities between both great
artists. She states that both were widely recognized artists who changed the industry with their
different stunning styles that captured the hearts of many. Prince s recent death had affected
Karissa similar to the way Cobain might have if she was a bigger fan at the time of his death.
The effect of Cobain s death truly set in Karissa s mind thanks to a coworker who cared very
much for the singer. A young high schoolkid, Karissa valued having money so, during her junior
year she worked a two jobs at the same time. Her first job at a nursing home and her second at
Jack In the Box, this is where she would finally realize Cobain was more than just a regular old
singer, although she would not fully appreciate his art and abilities for years to come.
Rider describes a boy named Robert. Robert was one of her co workers at Jack In the Box, the only
difference, this boy was in love with Kurt Cobain. At the time Rider did not care much for
Cobain and could not truly see the effect he had until she saw Robert. Robert was so devastated by
Cobain s death he d acted as if, in Karissa s words, his own brother had died . Karissa

Evolution Of The Traditional Family In The 1950 s

Discussion 9 Nuclear family is defined as familial form consisting of a father, a mother, and their
children (Conley, 2015, p. 453). This type of family was considered the traditional family in
American society in the 1950s. The traditional family was when the man worked outside the home
and the wife stayed at home and tended to the home and children. Also the idea of the traditional
family has changed, especially with the rate of divorce and single parents increasing. The divorce
rate has been steadily rising since the nineteenth century, as divorce became less and less of a
social and religious taboo (Conley, 2015, p. 456).
Now in the U.S. there are different types of families such as blended, where

Something surprising in the small town of Afton is the tattoo and piercing shop. It is not expected

A Feminist Reading of Updike s Rabbit, Run Essay
A Feminist Reading of Rabbit, Run
I do not like Harry Rabbit Angstrom. This creation of John Updike, this man who abandons his
pregnant wife and young child, and his alliance to the late 1950 s feeling of unrest and rebellion
makes me angry. Many times throughout this novel my cheeks flushed furiously and I could not
contain my exasperated sighs. When I read the last sentences of Rabbit, Run and closed the book, I
was disappointed. It was not because Updike fails to make it clear where or to whom Rabbit runs
(home to his wife? back to the prostitute?). Surprisingly, I was most disappointed because the novel
had come to an end. Although my reaction to Rabbit was negative, it was a very strong reaction; I

He sneaks down the strip of grass between the two cement walks that go with the two brick walls
(18).
Also citing this example from the novel, among others, Robert Detweiler determines what
implications this might have surrounding Rabbit s character. He states:
Harry, like his animal namesake, is mild in nature and openly harmless, even a frightened creature;
but if he is allowed to roam unchecked, he can do damage through his constant and voracious
appetites...he is always ready for flight, always poised to escape when life threatens him...he share s
the rabbit s reputation for reproduction (36).
I think it is important to add rabbits seem inoffensive, but are quietly troublesome. It is difficult
to assess their destructiveness while they are in sight. Interestingly, Updike chooses to not show
much of the immediate aftermath of Rabbit s abandonment of his wife, Janice. We are almost
exclusively in Rabbit s mind after he leaves, and we must make mere assumptions of what is
happening back at the Angstrom household. This is where a bit of my anger came to the surface.
During his initial trek, Rabbit seems innocent, charming, and timid as a rabbit. Nevertheless, if
we look beyond the superficial, Rabbit is horrible as a man. I felt duped. I was not even given a
prompt chance to prove to myself that Janice was coping poorly. In fact, we do not see Janice until
months later when she is giving birth to their daughter. For being named after a docile and shy

The Characteristics And Effects Of The Human Brain
The Human Brain is the most important organ in the body. Much like the headquarters of the body.
Without the brain the rest of the body will suffer. The brain also creates different traits and
personalities. How ever when the brain doesn t function properly it will cause many effects to an
individual. These effects can range from minimal to severe, depending on what is wrong with the
brain.
The human brain is protected by a bone structure in a form of a skull. The brain has a light pink,
pail, and noodle look to it. It has lines in the brain to section parts of the brain. The brain feels
like jello, it s stays in place but squishy. Put to much pressure on it, it will break. The human
brain is very sensitive. The human brain is also wet and slimy, like the feeling of boggers. The
human brain has its own odd smell. Like rotting food in the trash. The average brain weighs
about three pounds. Robbie Gonzalez stated Assume it feels solid, firm, almost rubber like. But
the brains you encounter in a lab setting have almost always been fixed and preserved with
chemicals like formaldehyde, which have a dramatic effect on the texture and firmness of tissue
like brain matter (Gizmodo). What Robbie is saying that brains that are in lab class feel different
than a fresh brain. The reason why they feel different is that in the lab their preserved with
chemicals. That s what Robbie was talking about.

Le An Objective For Prohibition
Abstract: Lean is a conspicuous theory and application which expects the use of a wide range of
assets for any reason, other than the production of significant worth for the end client to be
inefficient, and subsequently an objective for prohibition. The theory and mindset communicated
by an arrangement of standards, supplemented by various devices and systems helps for waste
abolition, equipped execution change, stock diminishment, and ideal quality level to the end

Virgin Blue Overview
Virgin Blue began operations in Australia on 31st August, 2000. Virgin Blue launched itself as the
first sustainable low fare airline in Australia against a strong duopoly in place at the time, Qantas
and Ansett (Virgin Blue Airlines, 2008a).
The airline took strong influences from the well known Virgin brand in innovation and customer
enjoyment and fun, but has also now established a reputation for brilliant customer service, value
for money and excellent on time performance. Virgin Blue has launched subsidiary joint venture
international airlines, Pacific Blue (Aust and NZ) and Polynesian Blue, and is starting a third this
year, V Australia. Virgin is now Australia s second largest airline, holding more than 31% of the
domestic market (IBISWorld, 2008; Peanuts! Online, 2008).

Women and Advertisements Essay
Women and Advertisements
The average American is exposed to hundreds of advertisements per day. Advertisements targeted
toward females have an enormous effect on women s thoughts, attitudes, perceptions, and actions.
Most of the time, women don t even realize these advertisements are formulating self image issues.
These ideals surround them daily and they become naturalized to the ads. Advertising creates an
entire worldview persuading women to emulate the images they see all around them. In order to
create a market for their products, companies constantly prey upon women s self esteem, to feel like
they aren t good enough just the way they are. This makes women constantly feel stressed out about
their appearance (Moore). Advertising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ideal weight portrayed in advertisements keeps decreasing, which is making dieting more
popular. Fad diets area everywhere trying to give us loose weight quick plans. According to a
study done by the Body Image Project in 2000, roughly 80 percent of 10 year olds have already
tried dieting ( What ). Dieting advertisements even depict overweight women as miserable. They
are slightly overweight with stringy hair and a frown on their face. Women relate to this image
and become unhappy with themselves like the women in the picture. The people in the after
photos always look so glamorous! They are slimmer, happier, have a smile on their face, and
total makeovers. Even the advertisements for weight loss products are fake and exaggerated, but
women see these images and want to be like them. These diets are too strict and not long term,
thus, creating a recurring cycle of disappointment and failure. There are diet pills, cellulite creams,
metabolism boosters, and even products that claim to put exercise in a bottle at every end cap of
major discount stores ( Every ). All these products encourage women to want to look better.
Companies need to advertise a healthy lifestyle rather than telling people they should do whatever
it takes to look like the images seen on TV. Women have a sense of pride when they loose a few
pounds or have a good hair day. That feeling is rapidly taken away when they compare themselves
to these manufactured images. Poor self esteem ensues.

business analysts, etc. Graduate school is advised in most circumstances before heading off to
work. There, strong language and research skills and good relationships with professors are all
looked at.
Another faculty member, Dr. Brown of the economics department, also received the same interview
questions. She was initially a business administration major in college, but since she enjoyed math
as well, she was told to consider economics where the two fields would be more or less combined.
She thought that economics was interesting and the problems were challenging, and graduated as
an economics major before pursuing her PhD to become an economics professor. In this

Neil Flambe And The Bard s Banquet Essay
Neil FlambГ© and the Bard s Banquet
The fifth installment in the Neil FlambГ© Capers written by Kevin Sylvester, Neil FlambГ©
and the Bard s Banquet is 310 pages long and was published by Simon Schuster Books for Young
Readers, an imprint of Simon Schuster Children s Publishing Division. It was copyrighted in
2015 by Kevin Sylvester, and is the first edition. I decided to choose this book because I have read
all the other books in the series, and also because I really like mysteries. Celebrity chef Gordon
Ramsay has commented Good fun on this series.
The protagonist of the book is a talented but cocky teenage chef Neil FlambГ©, who has a super
sensitive nose. Because of this, Neil has been dragged into a number of cases involving food, with
most of them involving near death experiences. He runs a restaurant, Chez ... Show more content on

They find his clothes and some blood in the back of an old theatre. Thinking he is dead, they
decide to pursue the jewel instead. Stumped by the clues, they ask Isabella s friend Rose for
help. They find themselves tangled with centuries old clues about the works of Shakespeare and
food. Also looking for the jewel are the Crayfish brothers and Lord Lane, who staged his own
murder to shake the Crayfish brothers off his tail. Neil and his friends think that they have
found the jewel, which is a signature of William Shakespeare himself, but Rose is captured by
Reggie and Ronnie Crayfish. They save Rose and head to Buckingham Palace to cook a meal for
the Queen. Then, Neil realizes that the real jewel is in an old globe. Opening it, he discovers one
of Shakespeare s lost plays, one that Kemp must have stolen. My final thoughts for this book are
that it was a really interesting book. What I liked most about it was that how the author kept making
us think that something else was actually the solution to the case. I would recommend this book to

Politics And Economic Development Of Angola
Politics play a crucial role in the success of any economy. The field of political economy is, thus,
crucial in demonstrating the manner politics, law and institutions alter the course a country s
economic development. Politics is an integral part of an economy since it is used to allocate scarce
resources within a state. Ideally, political economyrefers to a mixture of sociology, politics,
economics, history and philosophy, which integrates adequate evidence to examine how individuals
exist within societies. Although the partnership between China and Angola dates back to 1960s and
1970s, over the recent past, Africa, particularly Angola, has increasingly become an attractive site
for Chinese investments. This report reveals that China has been at the forefront in spearheading
investments and economic development of Angola, particularly on its agricultural and oil sectors.
The face of China s contribution towards economic growth in Angola A number of sources have
reveals that China has apparently become a key economic partner to Angola. The country has been
described as being one of the key recipients of Chinese investments on the continent. Angolan and
Chinese political and economic ties expanded during the late 1980 after the signing of the first
trade agreement between the two countries in 1984. Since then, the bilateral trade between Angola
and China has considerably expanded exceeding $ 120 billion by 2010. In spite of the poor
relationship between the MPLA and the

Nelson on Descartes s Theory of Perception and Judgment
Nelson on Descartes?s Theory of Perception and Judgment
ABSTRACT: One tension in Descartes?s account of human error stems from the idea that we may
be faulted for our acts of will, despite the fact that God is our omnipotent and omniscient creator. In
the present essay, I describe a second tension in Descartes?s account of human error. After
describing the tension, I consider Alan Nelson?s characterization of the means by which
Descartes?s intended to relieve it. Although Nelson s interpretation is almost correct, I think that it
obscures some of the interesting details of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment. These
details are revealed by the taxonomy of sensory responses that Descartes articulates in the Sixth Set
of Replies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases of false perceptual judgment, is it not the faculty of intellect that so seductively offers up
false propositions whose subject matter so clearly concerns our environs? As Descartes himself
concedes, the objects of perception include the ideas of size, shape, and motion, and of other
properties that are referred to objects outside of the mind.2 If the will and intellect, respectively,
contribute the neustic and phrastic components of judgment, then it appears that the intellect (and
hence God) is blameworthy in cases of erroneous perceptual judgment.
II.
In his paper, Descartes?s Ontology of Thought, Alan Nelson attempts to give an interpretation of
Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment that extricates Descartes from the tension associated
with explaining human error.3 On Nelson?s interpretation, Descartes maintained that false
perceptual judgments are ultimately the result of confused ideas, which have their origin in past
determinations of the will. In turn, Nelson supposes that confused sensory ideas can subsequently
come to be the customary result of the impact of external objects, and thereby result in the
spontaneous dispensing of false propositions by the intellect.
Nelson?s interpretation has a lot going for it. First, it appears to relieve the apparent tension in
Descartes?s account of error. Indeed, by characterizing false perceptual judgment as the result of
confused ideas and tracing the source

Lord Of The Flies Comparison Analysis
Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various themes and
ideas to convey important messages within their texts. These themes are often represented
through the clever clever and concise use of descriptive language and symbolism. Golding s
lord of the flies and Abrams Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film
Lost where Golding and Abrams are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and
societies brittle shell which when put under pressure results in a descent into chaos and
savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount themes and ideas in the text through the use
of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and symbolism. The preeminent matter in
Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing and combative aspects of human
nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the best and worst of society,
civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a conch and decide
to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call the others.
Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the
underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an example of symbolism
used to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses symbolism to convey his message
that society s state of governing and law is feeble and if people are put in certain

Charles Wesley Biography
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
(Matt. 1:1 ESV)
Sunday was Charles Wesley s birthday. I ve always liked Charles Wesley, for more than just his
prolific hymn writing. And make no mistake he was prolific. what amazes me about Wesley is not
just how many hymsn he wrote, but how many theologically rich, musically sound they are. it s one
thing to write a lot of hymns. It s quite another to write so many good ones.
While I admire, respect, and am indebted to Charles older brother John for so many things, I don
t know if he d be the brother you d want to spend time with. Oh I d want t hear him preach and ask
him about his faith and how he organized his small groups. ... Show more content on

His interference in the love life of his brother caused a tremendous rift between them for many
years. It seems that while he wasn t willing to risk his personal happiness for the sake of the
movement, h was wilignto risk John s. I don t believe Charles was being hypocritical. I think he
saw Joh as being more important, or at least a greater driving force behind Methodism, and he
feared what might happen if John settled down.
So no, although I think Charles might have been more fun to hang out with He was simply
different than his brother. The Wesleys embody the idea that God sues the entire Body fo Christ
without different gits, and personalities to further the Kingdom of God. Perhaps rather than
spending so much time trying to make everyone the same, we and the world would be better suited
if we allowed
In this season of giving we celebrate the greatest gift of all, the birth of Jesus. The one who s birth,
Wesley reminds us, came to give us a Second Birth Born than men no more may die New life
now, and an eternal life as well. It s for this reason we give gifts at Christmas. Oh, I know our
greed can put gift giving all out of proportion. But isn t giving a gift and receiving them still a
wonderful way to celebrate the greatest gift of

How Has Ballet Changed
The history of ballet is rich, complex and full of powerful meanings depending on the time period.
Ballet in the 15th century was seen as something that only select individuals could do, whereas, the
20th century ballet can be preformed by anyone. By thinking about how ballet performers have
changed, a question may be thought is, have the people attending these balletperformances changed
as well as the performers themselves? Today, children from ages two and up start taking ballet and
family members come and watch their final recitals. National ballet companies are also an event
and often draw attention to the higher class individuals who have a taste for ballet. The ballet
world could be seen as to having a quite array of attendees, events and functions, but that might not

In the 15th century, everyone watched from chairs or from temporary bleachers erected around the
walls of the ballroom (Jonas, 79). The seating arrangement would follow the king and queen sitting
in the first row in the middle, the highest ranking gentleman, and the highest ranking lady and so on
down the social ladder (Jonas, 79). The ballrooms would also sometimes circle around the dance
floor, where individuals can see the dance from all angles. Today, ballet performances are often
performed in theatres, opera houses, or in local school auditoriums depending on the level of
ballet. The seating arrangement in the 20th century also varied by the event. Individuals who go
to professional dance performances can purchase the best seat in the theatre. Family members,
who are going to see a local dance studio performance, most likely follow the first come, first serve
motto or they could also purchase tickets. The theaters, opera houses and auditoriums would also
only have seating in one section of the venue instead of providing seating at all

A Reflection On Physical Aggression
Physical aggression Narcissism is linked to low empathy, and aggressive reactions to threat.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that it has been linked to physical aggression as well
(Blinkhorn, Lyons, Almond, 2016). Baumeister and colleagues (1996, as discussed in Maples et
al., 2010) suggest the threatened egotism hypothesis, which claims that when the positive view of
the self of a narcissistic individual is attacked by others, violence may result. Hence, why
narcissistic individuals get aggressive when their self concept is threatened (Maples et al., 2010).
Especially individuals with vulnerable narcissismget in a shame rage cycle. Their sense of
entitlement makes them think they deserve more, yet they doubt this sentiment at the... Show more

This might explain why high rates of narcissistic personality styles were found in women arrested
for intimidate partner violence (Simmons, Lehmann, Cobb, Fowler, 2005).
Psychological abuse Psychological abuse should not be overlooked when one looks at intimidate
partner violence. Narcissism often has negative consequences, such as pain and suffering, in
romantic partners, due to mainly antagonistic and intrusive behaviours (Lamkin, Campbell,
vanDellen Miller, 2015). Narcissistic individuals see themselves as better looking, smarter, and
more socially extraverted than their partner when having grandiose narcissism (Campbell, Foster,
Finkel, 2002). They often use interpersonal relationships to enhance and maintain their self concept
(Lamkin, Campbell, vanDellen, Miller, 2015). This predicts an exploitative and selfish approach to
interpersonal relationships that include a lack of empathy, game playing, and infidelity. Since the
initial stages of the relationship are often very positive. The interpersonal difficulties become
apparent over time (Miller, Campbell, Pilkonis, 2007). Narcissism is linked to a game playing love
style, aversion to partner dependence, deception, and attention to other potential partners. Receiving
the benefits of the relationship without paying the costs.

Television Impact On The Television Industry
The television industry is growing, with so many genres to explore, and varying age groups
producers can target, there is always a show to watch. In western cultures the hours spent watching
television has drastically increased with the television market opens up the potential of more
variety. This escalation of televisionattraction has affected the way young people interact with
each other. Television has transformed the concepts of identity and commonalities among peers.
To understand whether this transformation is a good or bad, a study was done looking at the
effects watching one show has on a group of people. The study included five people, three
females, and two males, all of whom are currently watching The Vampire Dairies (TVD) based
on the novels by L. J. Smith, starring Ian Somerhalder, Paul Welsey, and Nina Dobrev. Two
females who had been watching it in the past but have sense ceased were also included in this
study, in order to get the fuller picture. The accounts all shared how the experience of watching
television among young adults at the Canadian Mennonite University has had a positive impact on
their friendships. The first major theme I found during this study was the perception everyone had
about what television meant to him or her and how that reflected how he or she defined
community. No matter if it was the previews that caught their attention, or he or she had free time
to spare, or him or he had heard from friends that it was a decent show, they

  • 2. Mail Troubles of the Civil War Mail Troubles of the Civil War The nation s communication system was cut in two when the civil war began in 1861. Mail was very important in boosting most soldier s morale. Writing letters was soldier s link between Civil War camps and battlefields and back home (Civil War). Many soldiers had never been this far from home and would often feel very homesick. Staying in touch with their loved ones helped them from getting too sad and reminded them that they weren t forgotten. Some of them wrote home weekly and used much of their free time writing. (Civil War). A letter from home could be tucked close to soldiers hearts to be read when feeling homesick (Civil War). Many also carried letters to be sent to loved ones if they were to die... Confederate postage was then no longer accepted by the Northern postal services, and if received was to be forwarded to the Dead Letter Office to be returned to senders (Nation Divided). To overcome this issue, the southern states created their own postal service. John H. Reagan became their postmaster general and changed 8,535 of the United States 28,586 post offices to confederate leadership (Confederate Postal System). He tried to employ southern supporters from the U.S. Post Office so they could bring maps, reports, forms and plans that could help jumpstart the new postal service (Confederate Postal System). Beginning using U.S. money and postage, they soon ran into more problems as result to North attempting to even further punish the South for seceding. U.S. postage issued before the war was stripped of its value to ensure that stamps in Confederate hands would be valueless (Nation Divided). The North began producing new postage to be accepted only in the Union territory. The South, now without a form of postage, had to create their own postage system. While this postage system was in the making, local postmasters issued provisional stamps or wrote paid on envelopes (Nation Divided). Confederate stamps were available in October of 1861 (Confederate Postal System). The stamps were printed several places ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Given To Fly Eddie Vedder Meaning In 1991 when Eddie Vedder wrote and performed his album Ten, he knew he was competing with the big time grunge band; Nirvana. Once it hit the stage it was clear there was no competition. Eddie s deep, emotional messages throughout this album, his shaky, raspy voice that transfers from screaming lyrics to soft, poetic like speaking. All tied together with his hard to hate persona that can be heard throughout this album and every album made by Eddie Vedder. In the song Given To Fly Eddie says He got up out of there, ran for hundreds of miles / He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree / The wind rose up, set him down on his knee. In this verse Eddie is describing his life and how he needs to get away from it all and just have a peaceful break, alone. Vedder likes to use his life in third person in most of his songs to make his message more distant, and almost more easily relatable. The song Given To Fly is actually a second or a reference to the song Going to California By Led Zeppelin and how just leaving might help out more than anything. Throughout the album there are several different songs with an abundance of different meanings. The song, Alive, has one of the deepest messages that is tied to his life personally. The song is about a boy that finds out that who he thought was his father, is actually his stepfather and his real father is dead. Eddie said the song is a work of fiction based on reality (SK) . When Vedder was born his mom had left his father and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What if your best friend read the directions wrong and took something s/he shouldn t have, wouldn t you want to know how to save them? Nearly 40 percent of college students engage in binge drinking, heavy drinking such as this is directly related with injury, health problems, and a decline in academic performance (Random Control). This is so relevant in colleges that most resident assistance are expected to serve as first aid providers, but the reality is no program exists for them to take (resident assistant training). McAfee Labs sees mobile malware continuing its growth in 2017, with ransomware, banking Trojans, and remote access tools among the leading threats (McAfee Labs, 2017). • 6. Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools At the foundation of the American public school system is the belief that every child deserves a quality education. To this end, the public school system in America has undergone many reforms. One of which has been charter schools. Charter schools are independent public schools of choice working under the auspices of a charter and not governed by the board of education. The charter can be written by parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, educational businesses, etc. It determines the school s guiding principles, management and accountability systems. The state approves the charter and provides funding for the school. Families choose these schools for their children. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Charter schools differ from traditional public schools on three basic principles: accountability, choice and autonomy. Charter schools are held accountable for their ability to educate students, management of finances and handle operations. If they do not meet the guidelines established by the charter they are closed. They give families a choice as to what school their children will attend. Finally, charter schools have more autonomy than traditional public schools. They are able to make their own decisions regarding curriculum and school governance and can focus on academic achievement instead of bureaucracy. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Ray Budde first introduced the idea of charter schools in the United States in 1974. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bosket Early Literacy Development (O101) ECH 425 Dr. Leah Barley July 21, 2013 Language and Literacy Essay The achievement of oral language is a normal development for the performance of most children. By being susceptible to language skills early on allows the child (ren) to be more proficiency and react in a way that contributes to them being able to express themselves in a way that causes them to use a variety of different phonemes and at the same time mix and maneuver other language and literacy skills. Numerous studies have found that there is a strong link between language problems, reading and overall academic achievement (Konza, 2006, Snow Burns and Griffin, 1998, Justice and Ezell, 2000). Constructive early language and literacy development can be an ally to opening a child s (ren) imagination; this will enhance and empower their potential to become successful readers. As the children grow (birth to 3 yrs. old) their brain goes through an extradinary developmental process and they begin to think, learn, communicate and rationalize things. When this early developmental stage is not being nourished the child will feel the affects of it in the long run. Children that come from low income families that are enrolled in schools are affected the most. Educators and parents can assist these children by giving them the support (early on) that they need to sustain a healthy learning environment. As educators it is our duty to create an environment that will help in this process. In conclusion, generally in language and literacy development skills for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Immigration And The Issue Of Immigration My current event is on the issue of Immigration and Refugees that is going on in our society. Immigrants have been the back bone of what made America great. This country is supposed to be the land of opportunity. For the people that come here that is all that they hear. Wanting a fresh start from whatever country they came from. The NASW (2015) said that Immigrationhas increased rapidly in the 1990s, with more than 13 million people moved to the United States(p.176). Immigrants and Refugees is an issue that has been talked about for many years. In 1965 the Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments provided a sweeping change in immigration law. The national origins system was abolished and a new set of priorities for admitting immigrants was adopted (NASW, 2015, p. 176). So Immigration has been a part of our culture, American society, and policy making for a long time now. It is talked about today even with during our Presidential campaign for 2016. The problems with Immigrants and Refugees coming to America came to issue when Donald Trump said he would deport all undocumented immigrants in the United States which is an estimated 11 million people (Saunt, 2015). In this article the Author Claudio Saunt made it his effort to explain that is a horrible idea. Saunt (2015) wrote in his article that In the past American cities and countries in the Southwest and Midwest tried to expel Mexican Americans once before in the 1930s, and it was a traumatic result for the ... • 10. Descriptive Essay On A Tornado The Tornado I was playing outside on a hot, late afternoon in August. My mother and grandmother were in the house. My dad was at work. I was five. In the time it took to bend down, pick up the ball, and stand, the day changed. No birds sang, no insects buzzed, nothing. There s no wind, I said aloud. It seemed as if the earth had sucked in all the air around me. The hair on my arms stood up. The poplar leaves hung still. I looked around me slowly, as if in a dream. Across Palmer s fields, where the sun went down, the sky had darkened. I started walking there, towards the west. The tall grass in front of me was still. I could hear myself breathing. The farmland shimmered in slow motion stillness. The sky changed colour. Now, it was green. The screen door slammed. It made a loud crack in the silence. Whirling around, I saw my mother coming onto the front porch. She yelled something. Her hair was blowing. Her apron was blowing against her. Wind! I looked back to the west, and there was the storm clawing its way into the sky above me. I stood staring, held by its power. The wind felt wild. It rolled around me. I loved it. From almost another world, I heard my mother yell, Tara May Stewart, you get in this house right now! I didn t want to go. I wanted to stay, rooted to this fierce place. The dog came bounding, Get moving, he said, tongue lolling, eyes wide, his body banging against my legs. My grandmother now stood next to my mother, thin arms waving. Her tiny frame was lashed by her apron strings, her bony knees swaying. The wind pushed me towards them until I had to run or be thrown to the ground. The rain came slashing at my legs, and by the time my feet hit the porch steps, I could hardly keep myself upright. My mother grasped my arms in fear and anger, pulling me into the house. Once inside, she pushed her whole body against the heavy front door until it finally shut. I heard the lock snap into place against the rain and wind. Get downstairs, she shouted. The door to the root cellar was already open. It leaned against the side of the cellar closet. Grandma climbed down the wooden stairs first, then me. My sister was already down there. My mother came down last, pulling the hinged door over us. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Germany Vs Usaaf Case Study During the Second World War, the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) and Royal Air Force (RAF) adopted two different strategic attack missions against Germany. While USAAF preferred daylight precision targeting attacks, RAF preferred night area bombing missions. Although both sides shared same goals, their interpretation about strategic effects of airpower was different. For better understanding these differences, this paper first will analyze strategic applications of USAAF and RAF, and then will clarify why USAAF s approach was more effective way of utilizing airpower as an instrument of national policy. These strategists thought shaped British aerial warfare policy. For example, Douhet says, bombing objectives should always be large; small targets are unimportant and do not merit our attention here. Also, Douhet model addresses aerial punishment to inflict considerable pain on enemy civilians to shatter their morale. RAF put his model into practice during WWII. In that case, British focused on morale of German workers. The British bombing campaign was chiefly waged by night by large numbers of heavy bombers. British knew that to influence into deep Germany territory was tough and daylight precision bombing had also much more difficulties. In addition, Royal Air Force s accuracy in bombing was very low during the interwar period. For instance, in March 1932, only half of the Royal Air Force bombs hit the right target. In that respect, British continued in night attacks and the majority of the attacks on cities. British thought was that general area offensive would affect considerably war effort. But, there was not agreement in royal air force about targeting priority. British officials criticized due to negative moral effects, and political risks. • 12. The National Health Service Within The United Kingdom Introduction to the Organisation The National Health Service within the United Kingdom refers to the publically funded body with a variety of healthcare related statutory responsibilities. This covers numerous individual services around the country, all of which must be able to provide a level of service both emergency and non emergency to the public. The NHS was formed in 1948 after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation that millions of individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the performance of the NHS is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the body is funded by taxpayer s money. The services offered by the organisation are also of extreme importance in regards to public health, and as such, it is crucial that such an organisation has an effective business continuity plan in order to maintain these services to the highest possible level in front of unexpected disasters or failures. Legal Duties There are a number of legal responsibilities placed upon the NHS in regards to business continuity and unexpected events. The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a legal requirement on all Category 1 Responders to have Business Continuity Plans in place to ensure that the emergency element of the service can still be run to an acceptable level regardless of disruption. The Rise Of Democracy And The Threat Of Persia The Rise of Democracy and the Threat of Persia occurred during the sixth century BCE however, it mirrors the issues of the Americas and Great Britain in the sixteenth nineteenth century. • 15. Klhl3 Gene Essay The KLHL3 gene (Kelch like family member 3) creates a protein that works in conjunction with proteasomes to degrade unwanted proteins via an ubiquitin proteasome system. KLHL3 is mainly expressed in the cerebellum and the distal collecting tubule in the kidneys (3). is Though expressed in the KLHL3 proteinhas a N terminal BTB domain, a C terminal that has Ketch like repeats, and a BACK domain, forming a conformation that is a bladed beta propeller structure (1). The protein produced by this geneis part of a complex (E3 ubiquitin ligase), which functions to indicate damaged and additional proteins by labelling these with ubiquitin, which is the tag later recognized by proteasomes for breakdown (4). This labelling is possible with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mutations for KLHL3 that cause disease all involve missense mutations, resulting in a different amino acid, again noting the inability to interact with substrates (7). One mutation, for example, resulted in a cytosine to thymine nucleotide change at codon 410, changing from a serine to a leucine amino acid. This change in polarity, moving from a polar to nonpolar amino acid, disrupts regular formation of the E3 complex, not allowing for ubiquitin attachment. These missense mutations often inhibit the ability of the KLHL3 protein to form the E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, and so this prevents the normal function of identifying extraneous and damaged proteins, resulting in an excess of WNK4, due to no protein degradation as a result of the inability to tag these excess proteins. This inability to form the complex in some mutations is a result of the cluster of serine residues that were affected by the mutation, building up on the propeller domains, disrupting interactions with substrate and/or altering protein structure, though it is more common to see one or the other (6). This leads to high blood pressure, due to no control over WNK4 concentrations in the blood. It was commented on that the majority of mutations affected the ability of the KLHL3 to associate with the rest of the complex, therefore unable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The White Working Class That Caused These Problems Was it really the White working class that caused these problems? Or was it the companies that outsourced their jobs overseas? The white working class are also known as the hillbillies. They are people who have gone through a lot of suffering but also have made a lot problems on their own. While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out, I m unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and loosing their sense of hope has led them to follow Donald Trumps campaign because he sympathizes with them and promises them economic and social changes. These families have struggled with poverty, domestic violence, drugs, and unemployment. One of those families was J.D. Vance s family. Vance grew up in the Rust Belt of Ohio, into a struggling, poor, abusive family. Vance escaped his hardships by enrolling into the Military and going to school. However, other people weren t as lucky as he was to get out, other families were still stuck in Hillbilly Middletown. Things were going good for these families until the 1970s and 1980s came along. This is when things took a toll, industrial jobs were cut, causing a down ward spiral for everyone in Ohio. This is when the alcoholism, drug use, and domestic violence became a norm. For about a century, the region seemed to be on a upward spiral. Middletown s streets today are full of shuttered storefronts and drug dealers, (Rothman,New Yorker). ... • 24. The As A Metaphor For The State Of A Nation Essay In what ways does the figure of the child serve as a metaphor for the state of a nation? In China s quest for modernity, the figure of the child transcended its biological definition. It took on a symbolic metaphorical form of rejuvenation used to revitalize the state of a nation facing extinction. After the Opium Wars, Chinese intellectuals had started to become aware of Chinas weakness on the world stage. By 1900, defeat in the Sino Japanese War, the failure of the Boxer Rebellion and the humiliating treaties that followed, made it clear to all. The old empire was in decline with the inadequacies of tradition exposed. A critique of the Confucian Doctrine, had begun. China needed to rejuvenate, rewriting the weaknesses of the old empire into a youthful nation. The questioning of nationhood coincided with a rising class of literati learning outside of China. Those such as Liang Qichao, believed that the huge gap between China and the West was not because of race but different educational systems within which, the education of children was vital. Ideas of Social Darwinism and the survival of the nation spread, furthering the symbolism of the child through the prism of the nation. Reformers in this class fervently critiqued the Civil Service Examination system in relation to foreign aggression. How ever when the brain doesn t function properly it will cause many effects to an individual. These effects can range from minimal to severe, depending on what is wrong with the brain. The human brain is protected by a bone structure in a form of a skull. The brain has a light pink, pail, and noodle look to it. It has lines in the brain to section parts of the brain. The brain feels like jello, it s stays in place but squishy. Put to much pressure on it, it will break. The human brain is very sensitive. The human brain is also wet and slimy, like the feeling of boggers. The human brain has its own odd smell. Like rotting food in the trash. The average brain weighs about three pounds. Robbie Gonzalez stated Assume it feels solid, firm, almost rubber like. Advertisements targeted toward females have an enormous effect on women s thoughts, attitudes, perceptions, and actions. Most of the time, women don t even realize these advertisements are formulating self image issues. These ideals surround them daily and they become naturalized to the ads. Advertising creates an entire worldview persuading women to emulate the images they see all around them. The field of political economy is, thus, crucial in demonstrating the manner politics, law and institutions alter the course a country s economic development. Politics is an integral part of an economy since it is used to allocate scarce resources within a state. Ideally, political economyrefers to a mixture of sociology, politics, economics, history and philosophy, which integrates adequate evidence to examine how individuals exist within societies. Although the partnership between China and Angola dates back to 1960s and 1970s, over the recent past, Africa, particularly Angola, has increasingly become an attractive site for Chinese investments. • 45. Nelson on Descartes s Theory of Perception and Judgment Nelson on Descartes?s Theory of Perception and Judgment ABSTRACT: One tension in Descartes?s account of human error stems from the idea that we may be faulted for our acts of will, despite the fact that God is our omnipotent and omniscient creator. In the present essay, I describe a second tension in Descartes?s account of human error. After describing the tension, I consider Alan Nelson?s characterization of the means by which Descartes?s intended to relieve it. Although Nelson s interpretation is almost correct, I think that it obscures some of the interesting details of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment. These details are revealed by the taxonomy of sensory responses that Descartes articulates in the Sixth Set of Replies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In cases of false perceptual judgment, is it not the faculty of intellect that so seductively offers up false propositions whose subject matter so clearly concerns our environs? As Descartes himself concedes, the objects of perception include the ideas of size, shape, and motion, and of other properties that are referred to objects outside of the mind.2 If the will and intellect, respectively, contribute the neustic and phrastic components of judgment, then it appears that the intellect (and hence God) is blameworthy in cases of erroneous perceptual judgment. II. In his paper, Descartes?s Ontology of Thought, Alan Nelson attempts to give an interpretation of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment that extricates Descartes from the tension associated with explaining human error.3 On Nelson?s interpretation, Descartes maintained that false perceptual judgments are ultimately the result of confused ideas, which have their origin in past determinations of the will. In turn, Nelson supposes that confused sensory ideas can subsequently come to be the customary result of the impact of external objects, and thereby result in the spontaneous dispensing of false propositions by the intellect. Nelson?s interpretation has a lot going for it. First, it appears to relieve the apparent tension in Descartes?s account of error. Indeed, by characterizing false perceptual judgment as the result of confused ideas and tracing the source ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Golding s lord of the flies and Abrams Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film Lost where Golding and Abrams are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and societies brittle shell which when put under pressure results in a descent into chaos and savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount themes and ideas in the text through the use of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and symbolism. The preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a conch and decide to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use.
