This document analyzes the maximum electricity demand of an engineering college in Rajasthan, India over two years to identify opportunities to reduce electricity bills. It finds that the college was paying for 75% of its connected load as a minimum demand charge each month, even when actual demand was lower. By analyzing monthly bills and demand patterns, opportunities were identified to more accurately forecast connected load closer to actual consumption, reducing unnecessary demand charges. Plotting load curves provided transparency into consumption patterns. With infrastructure and technology upgrades also considered, connected load could be reduced while maintaining satisfaction, lowering electricity costs.
The energy growth in Malaysia is rapidly increasing as the country moves forward with the advancement of industrial revolution. Peak hours require more energy generation, thus cost is also more expensive than during off-peak. Due to this reason, Demand Side Management (DSM) through Demand Response (DR) technique is introduced to modify the demand profile by implementing different strategies of measures. The objective of this study is to optimize the energy profile for commercial sector, as well as analyse the significance of electricity cost reduction by using the optimization technique. A Meta-heuristic technique called as Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) has been implemented in this study to optimize the load profile of a commercial installation. Significant testing shows that the proposed optimization technique has the ability to reform the Maximum Demand from peak zone to off-peak zone to reduce electricity cost. The test results have been validated through 4 cases, which are conventional method for C1 ETOU, C2 ETOU, and C1 ETOU with Optimization technique, and C2 ETOU with optimization technique tariff, respectively. The impact of the EP has been analysed, while the performance of six-time segmentation of C1 and C2 ETOU tariff indicate that the electricity cost for the medium voltage of installation has been reduced. It is hoped that the results from this study can benefit consumers by giving them the flexibility to rearrange their own energy consumption profile, so that the demand side will enjoy significant reduction of electricity cost in the future.
Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) – An Innovative Programme to Promote Indust...Leonardo ENERGY
Enhanced energy efficiency in industrial sector is a challenge inasmuch as it competes for investment with new production capacity. However, it is also an opportunity since it enables higher productivity and greater competitiveness. The Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) programme in India focuses on monetary reductions in specific energy consumption (SEC) of production units in energy intensive industrial sectors. In order to address issues of equity and inclusiveness, the programmes included all energy intensive plants in selected sectors, even the most energy efficient ones. However, the SEC reduction target was less for plants that are already more efficient. Further, third-party verification and issuance of certification for excess savings (more than the target) help in achieving transparency and enabling greater effort. The target savings were over-achieved by about one-third in the first cycle, and subsequently second and third cycles have been launched.

Barriers, Drivers and Policy Options For Improving Industrial Energy Efficien...CSCJournals
Energy demand in Pakistan is far greater than its indigenous energy supply, leading to prevailing energy crises in the country. The industrial sector, as one of the largest consumers of energy in Pakistan has significant potential for widespread adoption of energy efficiency measures. However, past policies and plans on energy efficiency have not been widely adopted by the industrial sector of Pakistan. This paper identifies and addresses policy-related implementation and institutional gaps. A questionnaire used to collect data from the target group, selected from concerned government organizations, industry and academics in Pakistan. The results indicates the existence of economic, technical and organizational barriers to industrial energy efficiency and highlights stakeholders opinion about policy tools that can be adopted for promoting industrial energy efficiency in Pakistan. Based on results analysis, the paper explores key barriers and drivers to industrial energy efficiency in Pakistan. The paper also investigates that there is great scope for adoption of voluntary policy tools linked with incentive-based mechanism in energy intensive industries of Pakistan.
Highlights:
* Discusses power quality contracts and classification systems.
* Concludes that premium power quality contracts are attractive for customers with sensitive processes.
* Most contracts deal with interruptions and voltage dips.
* Results show that the quality of supply increased with a power quality contract.
* Utility companies are not driven to pay the penalty but to increase the quality.
This paper is related with the importance of the energy policy and renewable energy which play a important role in the development of the environmental benefits. India has a vast supply of renewable energy resources and it is one of the largest countries in the world for deploying renewable energy. This paper attempts to review the policies and planning measures undertaken by the Indian government for promotion of renewable energy. Low impact renewable energy (LIRE) technologies offer important benefits compared to conventional energy sources, such as fossil fuels or nuclear power. However due to their uncertainty different kinds of renewable-energy resources need to be operated in an integrated way, which complement each other. Global electricity demand is expected to increase considerably during the next decade and at the same time environmental pollution is also increasing with the development of conventional energy source. To meet the challenges for global energy demand various support schemes, policies and planning to promote use of renewable energy sources are discussed in this paper.
Energy-intensive industries – energy efficiency policies and evaluationsLeonardo ENERGY
The webinar will review results from academic evaluations of energy efficiency and climate mitigation policies that have targeted energy-intensive industry on EU and Member State level. The EU emissions trading system, by some portrayed as Europe´s flagship policy to tackle climate change, has had little effect in triggering innovative low-carbon solutions. Other policy approaches taken by Member States have centred on site-level energy management practices linked with national incentives and obligations that stimulates industrial energy efficiency as a strategy aiming at multiple objectives. Remarks are also made about policy design and the role of evaluation to foster policy improvements.

Impacts of Demand Side Management on System Reliability Evaluationinventy
Electricity demand in Saudi Arabia is steadily increasing as electrical loads grows at a rate of about 7% per year, this represents a high rate by all standards, and largely due to population growth, as well as due to government subsidies which may lead to prices much lower than actual production cost. This growth represents a challenge that requires Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to invest huge amounts of money every year, for the construction of additional generation capacity along with the reinforcement of transmission network to meet the consumption growth. Also the demand varies frequently throughout the day, causing a waste of a large part of the energy. SEC believes the optimum solution lies in altering the load shape in order to have a better balance between customer’s consumption and SEC’s generation, This paper describes the method for improving the power system reliability by shifting the portion of peak load to off-peak periods This load management scheme can be achieved by lifting the generation during off peak periods and utilizing the stored energy during peak periods. A hybrid set up involving solar and wind energy along with batteries can also be used to store energy and utilize it during peak periods.

This study evaluated energy consumption by Agudu Farms Limited (AFL) that processes maize and cassava into flour for human consumption. The objectives of study included to determine energy contribution to processing cost, to minimize the processing cost and to propose a new selling price per unit of sale of the product. The study materials included; a multi-meter, stopwatch, electrical appliances’ nameplates and bills, fuel purchased receipts, and production records. Data was collected through detailed energy audits and measurements of present electricity consumption. This data was converted into energy intensities, rates and costs, and analyzed. The monthly energy intensity plotted on bar charts using Microsoft excel and the results showed that diesel had the highest consumption variation of 3500 kWh/t, electricity 200kWh/t and labor 110 kWh/t. The percentage of energy contribution to processing cost was 33%. In monetary terms, the processing cost per hour of operation showed average value of ₦830. Whereas, the minimum production cost per hour using Tora software showed ₦767. The new product price per ten-kilogram (10kg) unit of sale of maize flour, using break-even analysis, showed ₦2864. The study observed that diesel contributed more to production cost than electricity and labor and therefore, recommended the setting up of an energy monitoring team to monitor procurement and control utilization of diesel to reduce production cost.
