From the dawn of Iranian history, education and learning have been revered and preferred. In the 20th century the tradition of learning has been put forward by the enlightened rule of the Pahlavi’s father and son. Reza shah (1925-41) the founder of the Pahlavi dynasty believed that the expansion of modern
education was a pre-requisite for social and political progress. He wants to make education a corner stone in his nationalist program. He considered education a single most important factor in promoting both the well being of the individual and the progress of the country and is the cure for all that is wrong with the people and the country. During this period a large number of elementary and secondary schools were established in Tehran and other major cities. Education received attention from all social classes. The purpose of the present paper is to examine the role of Reza shah Pahlavi in the development of education based on the modern curricula.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. AminuddinBaki
AminuddinBaki was born on 6th January 1926 in a village in a
small district called Chemor in Perak. He received early education in SekolahMelayuChemor from
1932 to 1936. After passing the 5th grade examination, he continued his studies in Sekolah
Anderson, Ipoh, which was the best English school of the time with the best and most experienced
teachers. Aminuddin studied in the school from 1936 to 1941. Around 1945-1946 he had begun to
show interest in students’ association. He had particularly admired the Malay Students Association
formed on 20th November 1945 in Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur. At that time it had only 11
members. This association later became KesatuanKesuratanPenuntut-penuntutMelayu formed in
11th February 1946. This society had formed a committee entrusted to unify all students’
associations in the country and Aminuddin was appointed as the secretary. At the same time he
formed a Students’ Association in Perak known as PersatuanPelajar-pelajarMelayuInsaf (PERMI) in
April 1946. However his involvement was brief as in October 1947, he was accepted as a student
in Raffles College, Singapore, a much touted institution in its time.
At this time UMNO was formed to protest against the formation of Malayan Union. At the same
time, leaders of students’ association were encouraged to work towards the achievement of their
goals. Due to that, Aminuddin and other student leaders decided to to form a much stronger
organization. 7 associations had held a conference for two days in JalanTambun, Ipoh, and
resulted in the formation of GabunganPelajar-pelajarMelayuSemenanjung (GPMS) in 15 August
1948. Once again Aminuddin had only a brief stint in the new organization as he had been offered
a place in Universiti Malaya, Singapore in 1949. At the time he was content to be able to observe
the progress of the organization from afar.
While in university he was taken an interest in teaching, and to know more he had registered as a
temporary teacher in Anglo-Malay Evening School. He had taught at the school from 1949 to 1951.
In 1950 he had continued to be active in GPMS and was appointed as Yang Dipertua within the
organization. In the same year he had passed his SarjanaSastera examination and the following
year, received his IjazahKepujianSarjanaSastera. Upon finishing his education, he had returned to
Perak to become a teacher in SekolahInggeris Sultan Yusuf, Batu Gajah. In 1951 to July 1952, he
taught in Sekolah Anderson. He then furthered his studies in education in Education Institution,
London University under the Queen’s Scholarship.
He left Pulau Pinang aboard the ship SS Canton on 22nd July 1952. Aminuddin finished his studies
in the next year with Masters of Methods in Education. Upon returning to Malaysia he was offered
2. a place in MaktabPerguruan Sultan Idris di TanjungMalim as a lecturer. His contribution to students
and scholars alike includes introducing Islamic History although it was not included in official
syllabus. In September 1955, Aminuddin was involved in preparing the Razak Education Report
and in 1960; he was in the advisory committee for the Rahman Report.
At the age of 36, he was appointed the Chief Education Officer of Selangor. At the same time he
was active in other organizations and associations such as University Malaya Senate, Al-Rahman
Association, PersatuanSejarah Tanah Melayu and DewanBahasadanPustaka. General exams such
as SijilRendahPelajaran (SRP), Sijil .Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and SijilTinggiPelajaran Malaysia
(STPM) were created due to his contribution. He also formed LembagaPeperiksaan in year 1963.
