Dr. D Arcy s The Fate Of Irish Culture
By beginning the story with a broader canvas, Joyce was able to connect Gabriel s experience to the
context of Ireland and it s society at the time. His thoughts at the end can be understood in such a way
that they can resonate with the entire nation of Ireland instead of being left at the sadness of one man.
These thoughts are motivated by Mr. D Arcy s singing that evening, and to some level, Gabriel is
contemplating his own mortality. He is also analyzing the fate of Irish culture by identifying that it
must adapt in order to retain its relevance in a modernizing world despite the efforts of his aunts.
Joyce describes everything in great detail giving his characters, no matter how small of a role they
play, life and a story; this in turn gives the entire party an air of life and vibrancy. However, the party
takes place in a beyond thoroughly described, old house. Joyce shows off this house with every detail
of its ancient splendor seeming to push it even further into the past just to show that this way of life no
longer fits into the modern Irish society. The detail in which the feast is portrayed highlights how
important food and its traditionality is to Gabriel s aunts in their efforts to preserve the traditional Irish
culture.
Joyce uses subtle detailing to create Gabriel by intensely describing his appearance and observations.
Joyce begins by describing Gabriel s carefully protected patent leather shoes (para. 20) a trend from
the continent (para. 44) to show

Situational Disparities And Individual Officers Thought...
To further examine the situational disparities and individual officers thought processes, it is vital to
examine the situations and precise contexts in which these act occurs. The previous two theories have
examined the idea of role taking within police officers as well as members of subordinate groups as
well as examining the social class and power struggles that occur between the two groups. To help
examine the situational disparities and individual officers thought processes, I will be using Charles
Tittles (2004) revised version of his original Control Balance Theory (1995). Charles Tittle upholds
the notion that an act of deviance is the result of control balancing (Tittle, 2004: 404). One important
variable that Tittle discusses is the control ratio variable. This variable refers to the total amount of
control [an officer] can exercise, relative to the control to which [the offcer is] subject (Tittle
2004:397). Thus, one can hypothesize that when this control balance ratio is unbalanced, the
likelihood that an officer could engage in a deviant act is increased. On the contrary, when this ratio is
balanced, the likelihood that an officer will act in accordance with the law and department policy is
increased. The previous theories have a strong focus with regards to the socioeconomic and political
variables that exist within society, which is where Control Balance Theory differs because it
incorporates the concept of control balance desirability which Tittle

In-Game Making College Essay
Creating something from nothing has always been a joy of mine, and nothing seemed to embody that
notion more than creating a game through programming. Of course, I know that creating something
from nothing is a fictional term but when you decide to immerse yourself in a programming scheme,
bridging the gap between software and hardware, something truly magical happens. All that is needed
is a single idea, no matter how absurd it is and a text editor. Once you have that, devote yourself to it
for a few hours or days and you can create your own working world called a program.
In game making, the whole world revolves around the programmer. The programmer is the one who

Lady Macbeth Changes
In William Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth goes through some major character changes.
After hearing the news about the witches prophecies, she can t wait for Macbeth to take the throne and
she is so eager for the king s death that she makes Macbeth do it. After the death of Duncan, Lady
Macbeth does not appear in many other significant ways, this is where her change begins to show.
Lady Macbeth is first introduced into the play as a dark and evil character, she is also very
manipulative; but, as the play progresses, she begins to change into a deceiving and passive character.
At the end of the play, she is characterized for the last time when she takes her life because of her
guilt.
In Act I of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lady Macbeth sleepwalks and talks often; in one instance, while rubbing her hands together as if she
is washing them, she says, The thane of Fife had a wife. Where is she now? What, / will these hands
ne er be clean? No more o that, my lord, / no more o that. (5.1.36 38). In this quote, she is confessing
one of the crimes that her family has committed; she is also having a conversation with herself asking
if her hands will ever be clean of the evil she has done. She says that they will never be clean again.
Also, she is rubbing her hands together as if she is washing away her sins, thus proving her guilt. Later
in the Act, Macbeth asks a doctor to check on his wife and report on her condition. He says, Not so
sick, my lord, / As she is troubled with thick coming fancies / that keep her from her rest... / ...Therein
the patient / Must minister to himself. (5.3.39 41;47 48). The doctor is saying that Lady Macbeth is
not sick at all, that she is actually healthy. Lady Macbeth is just troubled with disturbing visions that
will not go away. Macbeth then asks the doctor what the cure is. He responds by saying that there is
no cure; the only way for her to get better is for her to overcome the visions. Since Lady Macbeth
envisions the murders they have committed and cannot overcome them, it proves that she is guilty.
Ultimately, in Acts IV and V, Lady Macbeth is

Analysis Of Katherine Gobles Johnson s The Space Race
Katherine Gobles Johnson was the first African American to join the Space Task Group at NASA. This
was a prestigious group in NASA that was dedicated in winning the Space Race. Octavia Spencer
accurately describes the honor and struggles associated with carrying such a title by describing what
the women in the book were doing in an interview with People magazine, They were basically treated
as second class citizens. They knew that they had more to offer, and they basically rolled up their
sleeves and 1 2 3 they did the work to be a part of something greater than themselves. Their

On September 2, 1945 World War II drew to an end however two years later another conflict

This was a fight to see weather democracy or communism was the superior foe. The Space Race was
the result the two leading countries fighting for dominance. Both countries were competing to

Nathaniel Hawthorne: a radical writer.
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4th from 1804, and he died on May 9th from 1864. Hawthorne
was born on Salem, Massachusetts, additionally, he was descendant of John Hawthorne, one of the
judges that participated on the witch trials. Two experiences influenced his writing, that is that his
father death when he was so young and after he married his wife Sophia, he started writing about his
own beliefs. Nathaniel Hawthorne was a radical and provocative writer on the account of the fact that
he wrote about profound themes never before explored. In the Letter to Longfellow on June 4, from

Band Over Sports
A number of sources repeatedly claim that music is essential to a child s growth, and that it boosts
math and social skills (CNN). However, Fayette County, along with many other counties, are cutting
down on art funds to make room for sports indulgences. Instead of new sousaphones for the marching
band, renovations for a recently upgraded stadium. Instead of bus funds for trips, new workout
equipment for the football team.
I know that Fayette County wants to please everyone, and that they try to show their support for
whoever shows their need the most. But for a meeting discussing the cutting of band and orchestra

You also have to take props, permission to use music, and uniform cleaning into consideration. If you
add those to the cost, it totals to around $400,000 per year. That s an enormous amount to pay with
next to no help from the district, which in turn bumps up annual band payments for each family. At
Lafayette High School, the cost is $1,000 per year per student. This adds even more money to pay
with school costs, and can put stress on families economy. In fact, this year at Lafayette, some families
couldn t pay their fees, and we are now unable to attend a major competition we had planned because
of our budget.
This put a huge damper on the band. The competition that we cancelled was going to be the biggest
part of the year, where we got to take tour buses to St. Louis to compete against band from out of
state, which we rarely get the opportunity to do. It was planned to be a lot of fun, and now that it s out
of the question, some kids questioned whether or not they wanted to stay in band, which they saw as a
dying program. However, the program was far from dying, if cut down slightly. It was definitely in
their best interest to stay in the band, as it has numerous benefits aside from strengthening your
musical prowess.

other deterioration particularly if debris has found its way onto the net. Any items that have fallen on
to the net will be removed as soon as possible but no later than the end of the work shift. The
maximum size of each netting opening will not exceed thirty six square inches and will not be limited

Mill´s Construction on Representative Government Essay
Mill s Considerations on Representative Government in one sentence: Ideal, yet practical
governmental governance can be realized only though the democratic governance of a specially
trained and experienced few . Mill is an elitist. How can he be an elitist when he dedicates the first
two chapters of his essay to praising the virtues of popular government? by surreptitiously advocating
for elitism in the subsequent sixteen chapters. In these sixteen chapters, he manages to maintain the
democratic façade he develops in the first two chapters while championing elite rule by promoting a
governmental scheme in which the people are theoretical supreme, but practically play no role in
exercising authority. The first instance of this dichotomy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear Mill wishes to restrict the business of ruling to those of superior mind ; the only role he
permits ordinary people to play in politics is that of choosing a limited amount of those who actually

aforementioned suffrage restrictions and modifications. One of the mechanisms Mill uses to maintain
a democratic front while advocating for elitism is his doctrine of cultural evolution. The crux of this
doctrine is the notion that there are different stages of moral and intellectual advancement through
which a people may progress.. By claiming that a people with the

Blockbuster Budget
Movies today are typically very expensive to make and require a high production budget to cover all
the high costs. Amongst those costs are expenses for marketing and distributing the movie. Although a
movie may cost a great deal to make, it does not necessarily mean that the movie will turn a big profit.
There are thousands of movies made every year and only a small percentage makes it to the big screen
and become successful. The budget, marketing, and distribution for a blockbuster movie and an
independent film differ greatly. Blockbuster movies are financed through the major studios through
the success of other blockbusters. Depending on the film, merchandising and licensing contracts can
sometimes make the money to produce a film. The major studios will generally be given a guaranteed
amount plus royalties to finance the movies. The average budget for a blockbuster is generally around
$100 million and can go higher depending on the film and how technical it is. The movie studios hope
that the movie will gross double if not more of the budget but that is not always the case. For example,
the movie The Adventures of Pluto Nash had a $100 million dollar budget and only grossed a little
over $7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sure salaries of the people that make the production happen are paid. Even with all those factors taking
a part in the price of the budget, there are still other costs that have to be paid for things such as
special effects, depending on the movie and the score of the movie. The music in the film has to be

Corruption In The Catholic Church
During the time of corruption in the Catholic Church, Protestantism was growing because of the
influences of politics, corruption within the Catholic Church, and Renaissance ideas. Many Catholics
were unhappy with the Catholic Church because of all the corruption in the church, and they wanted
reformation. The Catholic Church wouldn t be able to stop the growth of Protestantism. One of the
reasons Protestantism spread was because of the influence of politics, such as support from princes
and the Treaty of Augsburg. When Luther began to break from the Catholic Church, He called upon
the German princes to overthrow the papacy in Germany and establish a reformed German church.
(438) This is the reason the German princes started to support the spread of Protestantism. The rulers
of Germany were motivated by any religious feeling which made them take control of the churches in
their territory. This made the princes/rulers have the last say in any decisions not the Pope. Religious
warfare in Germany ended with the Treaty of Augsburg. The Treaty of Augsburg in 1555 brought
along change in Protestantism, it made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Luther made these problems obvious when he nailed his 95 theses to the church doors. In
Luther s 95 theses, he attacked the selling and buying of indulgences, absenteeism, simony, and
pluralism. All of the problems lead to corruption, and the corruption lead to people changing over to
Protestantism. The Protestant teaching was justification by faith alone, salvation comes only through
faith in Christ not good works. Buying a slip of paper is not the way to get into Heaven. There was
corruption with the Popes in the 1520 s. The Popes were spending too much money on Renaissance
Art and Architecture to make the church look good. They were too concerned with Italian politics.

Jordan never was shy in making it known he wanted the ball when the game is on the line. Even

instinct or maybe he just does not have the confidence. Either way he shies away from the ball when
the game is on the line. Jordan played a more strategical game while James was usually the bigger

The War Of The Korean War
It all started with a split on the Korean Peninsula. Southern Korea was about to be woken up for a
crude awakening. June 25, 1950 is the start of it all, Korea was about to go under a civil war. The 38th
Parallel was the division line because it was the 38th degree north line of latitude. As soon as the
United States of America had been helpful in wars in the past, in many other wars so they helped the
Southern part of Korea become free of the communism that the North was pushing towards them.
Many Americans have never heard of the Korean War or briefly know of it, why is that? Well that is
because many Americans have forgotten about this war because this was not one that the United States
was fighting for ourselves and instead for the South Koreans. The Forgotten War is the nickname for
the Korean War, but here is where the importance of the United States that helped in the Korean War
is going to shine through. The veterans that had fought in this war had fought for South Korea s need
to not be controlled by communism and be controlled by Dictator Kim Il sung. The involvement in the
Korean War was to helped protect South Korea because the United States helped South Korea gain
their own independence from North Korea, to have South Korea not be controlled by communism like
how North Korea wanted them to be ruled with, and the United States helped in the after war era with
the tensions high between both North and South Korea. In Northern Korea the Soviet Union had

Persuasive Speech About Autism

To some extent the sense of place depends on the built form, surrounding features derived from a mix

Women and the Media

Long before beauty pageants, Barbie dolls, and extra ordinarily beautiful girls, came about the idea of
the female body. Whether you are a believer of creationalism, scientology, or evolutionism, somehow
we all came about with the perception of the perfect female. Women have always been seen, and
portrayed as a sex symbol, and usually the disobedient one. Dating back to B.C and the story of Adam
and Eve, Eve was the naked one who bit into the fruit that god told her was forbidden. Why couldn t it
have been Adam that caused such scandal, and was the cause for destruction, and crime in the world,
and not Eve? From the believed beginning of time, to present day, women have really only progressed

Everyday of their lives, people are bombarded with advertisements pushing to sell them something, or
broadcasting a new and upcoming television program. The average American sees as many as 300 500
advertisements per day. Some see as many as 1,200 a day. (Jean Kilbourne, Ed. D.) General media is
tied with public relations, and has become a source of entertainment to the public eye. Women are
usually seen as eye candy, to attract the male heterosexual audience. Men and woman are usually
portrayed in different ways, on national television, and Hollywood films. Men usually play the tough
guy, macho man roles, while the women are predominately represented as white, young, glamorous,
heterosexual, and less influential then men. (Campbell and Carilli, 2005) Attractive women are usually
displayed in both male and female advertisements, and play a double role. Women will think that if
they purchase this product, they will resemble the model advertising the product, and the men are
tricked to think that if they purchase the product, that they will attract women like the ones advertising
the product. This is the sex sells propaganda tactic. Models in the advertisements aren t supposed to

Project Control Methods For Control The Project
Part 9. Project Control Describe the methods that you would use in order to control the project. (1
paragraph)
First and foremost, the project scope must be controlled. The entire reason for applying the scope
control process is to locate and direct the parts of the project that could increase or decrease beyond
what has already been determined in the original approved project scope plan. The next control
method needed would be scheduling and is one of the most challenging but essential needs within
project control. The project schedule can be impacted by many issues, such resources, funding,
material, weather, my health and on and on. Further, risk control would include accomplishing the risk
management plan to reply to risk events over the time frame of the project. It must be remembered
that even the most the most exhaustive and inclusive examination cannot possibly recognize all risks
and probabilities completely in a project. So using project tools, like workarounds, will be necessary.
Workarounds are unplanned on reactions to a risk event and are, at best, short term solutions. Finally,
cost controls would be vital to this project. A project could go over budget for many causes and
frequently it is not just one item but the cascade of small many increases that combined to affect a
budget failure.
Part 10. Project Closeout Describe the tasks that you would need to complete in order to close out the

The Problem of Global Warming Essay
Global Warming is the increase of temperature on Earth which is caused by human activities and will
have very serious consequences for life on Earth if humans don t start to do something about it now.
Global Warming is caused when the
Greenhouse Gases combines with the atmosphere and traps heat. It is strongly related to pre human
and pre industrial global warming, it is also weakly related to depletion of ozone layer, which was
caused by the CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons) gas. The effects of global warming on the environment are
dangerous, such as: rising of sea level because polar caps melt, changes in the pattern of precipitation,
floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes and tornadoes. These effects would take away life and ...

For instance, Nitrous oxide is the major greenhouse gas and has
296 times the effect of carbon dioxide (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide, Feb,
2007).
Human activities are the biggest contributor to global warming. Industrialization, transportation and
forest burning releases gases that join the atmosphere and trap heat.
Industrialization has been proved to release high amounts of carbon dioxide since the
Industrial Revolution began in the early 19th century. The total amount of carbon dioxide has
increased by one ? third of the usual amount in the atmosphere.
Transportation uses fossil fuels to run and as a result, it produces gases such as carbon monoxide and
carbon dioxide. Now, in the modern lifestyle, most of the people want and have private cars. This
further increases the amount carbon dioxide released to the air by the means of transportation. The
biggest cause of global warming is forest burning. This is because when we are burning forests, trees
inside it, which usually absorb carbon dioxide, release lots amount of carbon dioxide. Besides this, the
earth has also experienced natural global warming and ice ages several times before, which rises by up
to 5 degree Celsius. A climatologist said that humans have contributed to
Global Warming since 8,000 years ago, the year the amount of carbon dioxide started to increase.

Steel Mills Of Pittsburgh Essay
For over half a century the Pittsburgh region was the largest concentration of steel making in the
world. Its collapse was spectacular. The mill towns strung along the Monongahela Valley have now
suffered forty years of decline. Much of their shabby infrastructure and buildings (at best homely even
in their prime) has decayed, most of their population has fled to the metropolitan suburbs or left the
region, and those that remain, for the most part poor, struggle or live off memories. Regeneration is a
continuing problem for public policy makers as the mill towns struggle on life support systems public

A deep sense of pride and a corresponding sense of mourning is easily found in the inhabitants of any
former steel city. There is also a profound fear of the future and a corresponding desire to find a new
path into it.
As in other famous social dislocations and up rootings, in the end, what´s left in old steel towns are
those people who have stayed there and the institutions they keep alive. Sometimes they stayed
because no other option was available but often they remained by choice to stay among family, friends
and the remains of familiarity. Some feel defeated, but others struggle forward. In either case, it´s
these people who are the old steel cities greatest assets for the future.
Unfortunately, one of the legacies of steel is an environment, both social and physical, where the
needs of production often subjugated the health and well being of the people, just as the markets
invisible hand eventually subjugated entire cities. The struggle to overcome this negative legacy to use
instead the positive legacies of community and willingness to work hard and to tap into the resources
created by the production of steel At former steelmaking centers in Pittsburgh, Cleveland and

The Symbolism In The Wizard Of Oz
Early in the book, we see how Baum was influenced by color. It also appears that he may have wanted
to specifically make references to the United States in his book as well. When the meet Glinda, she is
described in the colors of the national flag, as a woman with rich red hair, a dress of pure white, and
blue eyes. 1 It appears as if the association of Glinda with the colors of red, white, and blue was not a
mere coincidence. Glinda plays an important role in the story, and while she is a witch, she is a good
and powerful witch. She also plays an important role at the end of the story when she is able to help
Dorothy achieve her dreams. Oz, the supposed powerful one, was not able to help Dorothy, but,

Each country of Oz has its own distinct color (see diagram below). The arrangement of this color
scheme is also very important. There is no great symbolic meaning to the color scheme of Oz... but it
is not arbitrary either. The change from one region to another follows the principles of color theory.
Each of the three major countries visited in the Wizard of Oz has a primary color, one of the three
from which all others derive. Dorothy and her companions do not journey directly from one primary
color to another. Instead their path passes through a secondary one. To get to the West, they must go

Castle in the red South by way of the Emerald City; the wild countryside they visit before arriving in

Schizoid Personality Disorder Essays
At one point in our lives or another, we have all been to school, we have all been into the lunchroom,
and we have all seen those few children that sit by themselves and don t say anything, don t look

children and then brushes them off and say to themselves Oh they are just weird, I wouldn t want to be
their friend either. But have you ever stopped and thought maybe its something deeper? Maybe these
kids have a mental disorder that causes them to be that way. Maybe, just maybe, its not even their own

What are miracles? Who would be able to do these miracles? A miracle is an
event which the force of nature including the natural powers of man cannot of

everywhere. Regarding to some religious perspective, perfuming miracles is an
ability that given by God to holy persons such as prophets and so on. It has
also, different perspectives for religious people for whom who have the ability to
perform miracles. In my study about miracles in the Bible, I found that, miracles
takes place in many chapters, mainly in the four gospels. It has been recorded in
seven different categories. In this paper, I will focus on two of the prophetic miracles
that has performed by Jesus. In this paper I will show that Luke uses of prophetic
miracles of Jesus was to prove that he has special power make him the son of God

Jesus performed numerous miracles occurrences throughout his earthly

to affirm his claim to being the Chosen Son of God. These super natural powers

anesthesia for the peripheral nerve or plexus delivers a smaller volume to the targeted nerve without

Online Communities Essay
Communities are all about groups of individuals who share something in common. This makes going
on the internet seem like an odd way to find more communities, form new ones, or strengthen pre
existing ones. The internet however is full of communities. Communities can be based upon religion,
location, ethnicity, an interest, or a personal matter. The internet itself is a global distributed data
communications network (Kirmayer, Raikhel, Rahimi, 2013, p. 166). This is what makes the internet
so full of communities because communication is the key to putting multiple individuals with
commonalities into communication, which is the basis of any community. Online communities differ
from communities that exists off the web in a couple of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This distinction of authority aids in creating a hierarchy within a community. With online
communities, every member is often able to contribute equally, allowing their voice to be heard. This
gives the impression that every individual is an authority figure on a subject due to their ability to be
equally heard. (Cellary, 2008, p. 107) For example to post a video about cats on Youtube, it is equally
as easy for one person as it is the next to post a video. They simply must own a camera, have a
Youtube account, be willing to record something about cats, and post it on Youtube (How to upload
videos, n.d.). A third and huge difference between the two types of community is that online
communities offer up the chance to be anonymous. Online one can identify with the use of almost any
name or image. The name doesn t have to be a real one, and there s not really any way for one to
prove the image is truly theirs or of themselves (Cellary, 2008, p. 107).
However, this ability for anonymity within an online community doesn t necessarily mean privacy.
The study Internet social network communities: Risk taking, trust, and privacy concerns by Fogel and
Nehmad (2008) talks about how much university students are willing to share on social media.
Although the study does strictly look at one set of university students, it gives an example of how
much individuals are willing to share personal information such as pictures of oneself, ones email

scenarios demand varying strategies for the business. Of course the strategy must be re evaluated

The reason for this special significance is found in the speed with which growth by merger can
proceed. It should be clear from the analysis of earlier chapters that neither extensive acquisition of
existing firms, nor entrepreneurs bent on achieving monopoly and dominance are necessary for the
explanation of the emergence of large and dominant firms. EXCHANGE RATE UTILISATION AND
ADAPTION It was observed during the recent emerging market crises that as soon as an inflexible
exchange rate and other financial sector weaknesses became apparent in an economy, institutional
investors and currency speculators were attracted toward it, making a currency crisis imminent (Das
1993). Exchange rates create a risk to a business like Unilever. A bad exchange rate creates the need
for Unilever to increase the prices; a positive exchange rate gives a firm the chance to earn more
income. Unilever always monitors the financial status of the country they operate in, it always checks
for any changes in the exchange rate and other economic indicators. The company s local strategy is

Every person on earth will live a long and hopefully satisfying life. Sadly, one day we will have to

based of the real life experiments of Robin Seeley. Seeley studied the the shell shape and thickness of
the intertidal snail, Littorina obtusata, in northern New England. He saw that the shells had changed
drastically between 1871 and 1884. Shells before 1884, were high spiraled with thin walls. Compared

It seems like we as a population are always changing to adapt to a new, better way of life, but when
does better become enough? In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so they won

evolved through natural selection, by changing variation, inheritance, and the selection of the
population. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still evolve if all
the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation occurring, the shell
thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to adapt to the new
conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the offspring would not be
identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw a more variety in the
population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of target and getting eaten
more likely than others. Next we played with selection. Here I got to choose which snails I wanted to

Allure Of Democracy
The Allure of Democracy
A democratic system is one that states strive for, as it allows for popular participation through the
electoral process; and depending on implementation tactics, states may or may not be successful in
this pursuit. Democracy looks different across nations, as exemplified with presidential, parliamentary
and mixed systems being put in place. However, what is the allure of democracy? Herein, differences
in executive leadership and duties and differences in powers are addressed in order to better
understand what democracy is and why it is a sought after system of governance. Democracy is based
on two fundamental concepts. The first of which is political participation, which requires all citizens

They are, however, often times more stable systems. Paradoxically, the executive branch, some would
argue, is not sovereign the citizen is. This is because the president, as well as legislators, have a
responsibility to uphold the wants of the people. This is often debated, though. A major player falling
under this system is the United States. In the U.S. presidential system, voting for both the legislative
branch and the presidential seat are voted on simultaneously (rather than a legislative branch being
voted in, who then vote in the president as seen in parliament elections), and only two political parties
stand out amongst the rest. There is no split government, and no such thing as a vote of confidence,
meaning it is much harder to remove a presidential figure (they must be impeached). Political parties
don t get to choose the president (they choose a candidate to run), and though the president seeks to
establish a cooperative relationship across parties it isn t essential to his/her stay in office (Dahl, n.d.)
(Moe Caldwell, 1994).

the world around. The business goals of GE are to create 100 new products by 2015, enter new
markets and realize revenues. The social goals are to decrease cost by 15 percent, increase access by
15 percent and also increase quality by 15 percent.
There are three main ways companies can create shared value opportunities, all of them are mutually
reinforcing
Re Thinking Products and Markets * Societal needs are the greatest unmet needs in society * When
businesses build products around society, then both business and society benefit.
Redefining Productivity in the Value Chain * Productivity and societal progress heavily linked so
called externalities usually become internal costs to the firm. * Growing consensus that major
improvements in environmental performance can often be achieved with better technology at nominal
incremental cost and can even yield net cost savings through enhanced resource utilization, process
efficiency, and quality. * Costs must be looked at in a long term perspective, and no longer short term
Enabling Local Cluster Development * Success of every company is affected by the supporting
companies and infrastructure around it. Productivity

Himmler And Macbeth Corruption
Architects of Death: Corruption of Power
Both Himmler and Macbeth were good men before they became corrupted by the promise of power.
As the sagas of their lives unfolded, they fell victim to corruption; it was the one constant throughout
both of their reigns. Once corruption took hold only violence could follow. They had blood stained
hands when they came to power; in both instances, it was the predominant reason they were elevated
to their new positions. It is as difficult to imagine their reigns without violence as it is with the
violence they implemented. Macbeth oppressed the population of Scotland, swiftly and
indiscriminately killing any who opposed him. Himmler was the primary architect of the Final
Solution, which saw over 11,000,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only people that remain in his castle are servants who have little choice in the matter. However,
Macbeth s resolve remains unshaken because of the witches second apparition, who said; laugh to
scorn/ The power of man, for none of woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth (IV.I.85 87). This convinced
Macbeth that nobody could kill him since all people are of woman born (he was born by Caesarian
Section). The third apparition said; Macbeth shall never vanquish d be until/ Great Birnam wood to
high Dunisdane hill/ Shall come against him (IV.I.100 102). This only served to further Macbeth s
overconfidence because he took what the apparitions told him literally and was certain that a forest
could never move. He incorrectly assumed that the witches had his best interests at heart and were
trying to genuinely help him. In Act 5 Scene 8, Macduff reveals to Macbeth that he; was from his
mother s womb/ Untimely ripp d (V.VIII.19 20). Upon hearing this, Macbeth realizes he s been
deceived by the witches because Macduff is technically not of woman born. Himmler also met his end
due to deception; in late 1944 it was obvious for many in Nazi Germany that the war was lost, even a
fanatic such as Himmler. In the spring of 1945 Himmler reached out to Eisenhower (supreme
commander of allied forces) via Swedish diplomat Folke Bernadotte (Anderson 3). Himmler tried to
trade the lives of concentration camp

Career Blind Americans
Students who come from black working class families are more likely to be career blind and
underachievers.
This was view expressed by Professor Emeritus Ramesh Deosaran at the Ministry of Education s
Administrator s Conference at the Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School yesterday.
Deosaran, who was the feature speaker, told those present that the society is at a point where it needs
to be rebuilt from scratch and teachers are the ones who can accomplish this feat.
Many young boys and girls drift into gangs, drugs and other illicit behaviours mainly because they
were mentally career blind, not possessing a career or occupational goal, Deosaran said during his
address. It continues to be a tragedy that this career blind group, ... Show more content on

I remember while interviewing Form Five students in an under performing school, we asked what
career they aimed for. Some said policeman, others said join the army, driving tractor etc. One boy
stood up and said A doctor, sir.
You should have seen how the other children laughed at him, mocking him. That is a remarkable
phenomenon, these children do not believe that they or anyone in their school can hope to be
something like that.
Questioned by media during a lunch break, Deosaran elaborated on his comments, saying, There are
several factors that affect the education system for example: social class, economic differences, ethnic
differences gender differences and even where the students are located, because you find in one
district, for example, Victoria a high proportion of what you call the prestige schools exist, so all these
factors, converge to create a disturbing degree of inequality in the education system.
Deosaran said his conclusion was based on a report done in 1994 and research and observation over
the years.
Now we have found that over the years, about 20 years or more, that particular kinds of families are
more disadvantaged than others. For example working class families, single parent families and
students of African origin who are also from poor families are also

Atomic Bombs In New Mexico
No one knew the events that took place on a quiet Monday morning in Los Alamos, New Mexico
would end up changing the world forever. On July 16th, 1945, The first Atomic bomb ever dropped
would detonate, sending shockwaves of empowerment to all of those that have strived so hard to
develope this device. After the testing of the first bomb dropped there would be exceptional testing
done to make sure this bomb was as effective as it could possibly be. The world was completely
unaware of the destruction that was soon to come if a compromise was not reached. The United States
testing and manufacturing of three atomic bombs was more commonly known as The Manhattan
Project.
The Manhattan Project was brought by fear of Germany and it s atomic research. ... Show more

The U.S. was not to accept anything less than a surrender, and the Japanese were insisting that they
keep their emperor and current government. To cooperate with Russia meant the U.S. would be in debt
and would possibly be in an undesirable situation with the Russian Communist rule. The invasion of
the Japanese mainland would, like the previous choice, sacrifice hundreds and thousands of American
soldiers. A problem with showing the testing of the bomb was the possible failure of the bomb. As we
know choice five was chosen. The choice of dropping the bomb took about a month to decide from the
time of the first initial testing. Five places had been chosen as good targets in Japan. They were
Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Yokohama, and Kokura Arsenal. The last thing the U.S. now had to do
was get the bomb dropped on their picked primary targets, which were chosen as Nagasaki and

Dying Metaphors In George Orwell s Essay
George Orwell, in his passion driven essay, derides the manner by which people nowadays normalize
the abusive usage of the English language. He believes that vagueness and incompetence plague
modern English prose, especially political discourse. A candid writer, Orwell lists a few components
of faulty English writing: dying metaphors, operators or verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and
meaningless words. Dying metaphors are essentially cliché, hackneyed phrases or sayings that most
people know. A lot of writers are not putting in the effort to invent a new metaphor to explain a
concept that might not be straightforward. The usage of dying metaphors might show that the writer is
uninterested in what he or she is saying. Operators or verbal

  • 2. Dr. D Arcy s The Fate Of Irish Culture By beginning the story with a broader canvas, Joyce was able to connect Gabriel s experience to the context of Ireland and it s society at the time. His thoughts at the end can be understood in such a way that they can resonate with the entire nation of Ireland instead of being left at the sadness of one man. These thoughts are motivated by Mr. D Arcy s singing that evening, and to some level, Gabriel is contemplating his own mortality. He is also analyzing the fate of Irish culture by identifying that it must adapt in order to retain its relevance in a modernizing world despite the efforts of his aunts. Joyce describes everything in great detail giving his characters, no matter how small of a role they play, life and a story; this in turn gives the entire party an air of life and vibrancy. However, the party takes place in a beyond thoroughly described, old house. Joyce shows off this house with every detail of its ancient splendor seeming to push it even further into the past just to show that this way of life no longer fits into the modern Irish society. The detail in which the feast is portrayed highlights how important food and its traditionality is to Gabriel s aunts in their efforts to preserve the traditional Irish culture. Joyce uses subtle detailing to create Gabriel by intensely describing his appearance and observations. Joyce begins by describing Gabriel s carefully protected patent leather shoes (para. 20) a trend from the continent (para. 44) to show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Situational Disparities And Individual Officers Thought... To further examine the situational disparities and individual officers thought processes, it is vital to examine the situations and precise contexts in which these act occurs. The previous two theories have examined the idea of role taking within police officers as well as members of subordinate groups as well as examining the social class and power struggles that occur between the two groups. To help examine the situational disparities and individual officers thought processes, I will be using Charles Tittles (2004) revised version of his original Control Balance Theory (1995). Charles Tittle upholds the notion that an act of deviance is the result of control balancing (Tittle, 2004: 404). One important variable that Tittle discusses is the control ratio variable. This variable refers to the total amount of control [an officer] can exercise, relative to the control to which [the offcer is] subject (Tittle 2004:397). Thus, one can hypothesize that when this control balance ratio is unbalanced, the likelihood that an officer could engage in a deviant act is increased. On the contrary, when this ratio is balanced, the likelihood that an officer will act in accordance with the law and department policy is increased. The previous theories have a strong focus with regards to the socioeconomic and political variables that exist within society, which is where Control Balance Theory differs because it incorporates the concept of control balance desirability which Tittle ... • 4. In-Game Making College Essay Creating something from nothing has always been a joy of mine, and nothing seemed to embody that notion more than creating a game through programming. When the meet Glinda, she is described in the colors of the national flag, as a woman with rich red hair, a dress of pure white, and blue eyes. 1 It appears as if the association of Glinda with the colors of red, white, and blue was not a mere coincidence. Glinda plays an important role in the story, and while she is a witch, she is a good and powerful witch. Each of the three major countries visited in the Wizard of Oz has a primary color, one of the three from which all others derive. This makes going on the internet seem like an odd way to find more communities, form new ones, or strengthen pre existing ones. The internet however is full of communities. The internet itself is a global distributed data communications network (Kirmayer, Raikhel, Rahimi, 2013, p. 166). This distinction of authority aids in creating a hierarchy within a community. With online communities, every member is often able to contribute equally, allowing their voice to be heard. This gives the impression that every individual is an authority figure on a subject due to their ability to be equally heard. (Cellary, 2008, p. 107) For example to post a video about cats on Youtube, it is equally as easy for one person as it is the next to post a video. They simply must own a camera, have a Youtube account, be willing to record something about cats, and post it on Youtube (How to upload videos, n.d.). A third and huge difference between the two types of community is that online communities offer up the chance to be anonymous. Online one can identify with the use of almost any name or image. The name doesn t have to be a real one, and there s not really any way for one to prove the image is truly theirs or of themselves (Cellary, 2008, p. 107). However, this ability for anonymity within an online community doesn t necessarily mean privacy. The study Internet social network communities: Risk taking, trust, and privacy concerns by Fogel and Nehmad (2008) talks about how much university students are willing to share on social media. In this we found that with no variation occurring, the shell thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to adapt to the new conditions.
