Alcohol Addiction Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of alcohol addiction poses a multifaceted challenge that extends
beyond the realms of mere academic composition. Delving into this topic demands a delicate
balance between empathy and objectivity, requiring a nuanced understanding of the complexities
surrounding addiction. Addressing the psychological, social, and physiological aspects of alcohol
dependence necessitates thorough research and a profound comprehension of the intricate
interplay between genetic predispositions and environmental factors.
Moreover, the emotional toll associated with alcohol addiction adds an additional layer of
complexity to the writing process. One must approach the subject with sensitivity,
acknowledging the struggles faced by individuals grappling with addiction while steering clear
of stigmatization or oversimplification. Striking this balance requires a keen awareness of the
potential impact of language choices on readers' perceptions and attitudes towards those affected
by alcohol dependency.
In addition to these challenges, the writer must navigate a vast body of existing literature on the
topic, including scientific studies, medical perspectives, and personal narratives. Synthesizing
this information into a coherent and compelling narrative demands both time and expertise.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling thesis statement that captures the essence of the essay and
guides the reader through the exploration of this intricate subject is no small feat.
Ultimately, writing an essay on alcohol addiction requires a meticulous approach, incorporating a
synthesis of diverse sources, a careful choice of language, and a deep understanding of the
human experience within the context of addiction. It's not merely an exercise in academic
writing but a responsibility to communicate information effectively while fostering empathy and
awareness.

Cloudstreet Essay
Cloudstreet
Besides providing an interesting story line, texts may portray attitudes and values
connected with many aspects of the society in which they were written or represent.
This is the case in the novel,
Cloudstreet, in which values and attitudes of Australian life are presented in the story
of two families sharing one house. The author,
Tim Winton, may have directed these attitudes and values at the
Australian society to provide the people involved within, an understanding of
themselves and their culture, and also make an attempt at pushing his own
interpretation of them. In Cloudstreet,
Winton has effectively used the role of the woman and the man to express more
modern attitudes and values of Australian life. Lester ... Show more content on

The whole book is about recognising that the spiritual world is connected with the
past, present and future and how each character comes to realise this. One side of the
house has a strong belief in luck Lady luck while the other places value in their
faith. The Pickles, especially Sam, place their chances on luck. The day that Sam
lost his fingers he felt the shifty shadow of God lurking about and he knew
something bad was going to happen, same with the feelings before Dolly broke her
leg. Rose and Dolly have a distant relationship. Rose lost her childhood because she
had to rescue Dolly from the pub fairly often.

Cloudstreet dwells on the human desire to find meaning in life. Tim
Winton expresses many themes in his novel Cloudstreet , one of which is about
finding one s place in the world and the search for the meaning of life. Basically all of
the main characters in the novel experience this desire and battle to find it. In the
beginning of the book, Oriel Lamb is a devoted religious woman, though all of this
changes after Fish s accident. She cannot come to terms with the fact that her son
was brought back crippled. She questions why there is evil in the world and why
good people have to suffer. Oriel does not understand why God had punished her
since she was such a devoted and hard working woman. She becomes disappointed
and angry with
Sexual Assault And Sexual Abuse
Sexual assault is any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the
explicit consent of the recipient. Falling under the definition of sexual assault are
sexual activities such as forced sexual intercourse forcible sodomy child molestation
fondling attempted rape
The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act was passed in the United States, and
its definition of who might be covered under the law included sexual abuse.
1 In 6 Women in the united states and 1 in 33 men have experienced an attempted or
actual rape as a child
3 out of 5 sexual assault victims stated the offender was an intimate, relative, friend,
or acquaintance sexual and physical abuse occur in childhood and adolescence, the
chance for revictimization increases
In recent years individuals have become increasingly aware of the phenomenon of
rape and other forms of sexual abuse.
The new awareness appears to have steered in a greater sensitivity to and advocacy
for the rights and needs of survivors.
An estimated 60% of perpetrators of sexual abuse are known to the child but are not
family members, e.g., family friends, babysitters, child care providers, neighbors.
About 30% of perpetrators of child sexual abuse are family members.
Only about 10% of perpetrators of child sexual abuse are strangers to the child.
In a 2012 maltreatment report, of the victims who were sexually abused, 26% were in
the age group of 12 14 years and 34% were younger than 9 years.

Modeling and Simulation
Modeling and Simulation
A Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real world process or system over
time. It involves the generation of an artificial history of a system and observation of
the artificial history to draw inferences concerning the operating characteristics of the
real system. Simulation can be used both as an analysis tool for predicting the effect
of changes to existing systems and as a design tool to predict performance of new
systems under varying sets of circumstances
Advantages of Simulation: 1 Choose correctly. 2 Time compression and expansion 3

2. By using simulation to perform bottleneck analysis, you can discover the cause of
the delays in work in process, information, materials, or other processes. 3. Simulation
studies aid in providing understanding about how a system really operates rather than
indicating an individual s predictions about how a system will operate 4. By
compressing or expanding time simulation allows you to speed up or slow down
phenomena so that you can thoroughly investigate them.
Lecture 2:
A system 1. A system is defined as a group of objects that are joined together in some
regular interaction or interdependence toward the accomplishment of some purpose
Example: Automobile factory Machines, parts, and workers operate jointly to
produce a vehicle Example: Computer network User, hosts, routers, lines establish a

2. A system is often affected by changes occurring outside the system. Such changes
are said to occur in the system environment.
Component of a System
Entity: an entity is an object of interest in the system.
Attribute: an attribute is a property of an entity.
Activity: an activity represents a time period of specified length.
State: the state of a system is defined to be that collection of variables necessary to

Acid Rain
Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the
northeastern United States, in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also
occurs in other parts of the world as well (Baker Schofield, 1982). The acidification
on the surface of water causes many fish populations to decline in soft water aquatic
environments, that are exposed to acidprecipitation (Neville Campell, 1988). This
acidification of the surface water is caused by acid rain. Acid rain or otherwise
known as acid deposition is a term that includes any form of precipitation with
acidic components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that comes down from the
atmosphere in wet or dry forms. These forms include rain, snow, fog, hail or even
dust that can be acidic. Acid rain is caused by when sulfur dioxide(SO2) and nitrogen
oxides (NOx) are put into the atmosphere and then transported by wind and air
currents. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygenand other
chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids. These chemicals then mix with water
and other materials before falling into the ground. A small portion of sulfur
dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain from natural sources like
volcanoes, but most of it comes from the burning of fossil fuel (Feely, et al., 2010).
Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are two of the major sources associated towards
acid rain. Atmospheric deposition of the sulfur and nitrogen molecules is derived
from coal fired
Nick Morton Analysis
The life story of Nick Morton isn t all that incredible, but thats why makes it
incredible to Nick Morton himself. It s the year 1999 in Milbank, South Dakota in
a small hospital called Saint Bernard s Hospital and a young father and mother
have their first child together a boy named Nicholas. Then comes the early years
growing up in Milbank for two years, and a little sister named Haley comes into the
picture and Nick telling the doctor You take her home I don t want her . After two
years of life in Milbank the familyhad to move to Sioux Falls, South Dakota because
of the young sister who had multiple seizures and the doctors were more advanced.

In high school Nick was involved in many things Band, Marching Band, student
council and basketball for a year. During his high school years he was also
involved in the first class of the customized learning process in Harrisburg which
brings in his feelings of regretfulness because he slacked off way too much in
school and didn t try as hard as he should ve. Nick would also face a lot of sadness
especially during his senior year losing not one but three grandparents over a five
month span. The most important part of Nick s high school experience is that he
experienced numerous times of happiness. Including being able to not only go
back every summer after his first experience at camp judson as a camper but also
as a counselor at the Jr camp. Morton s first experience of being a co counselor was
a surprise to him because during the summer after his freshman year Nick would
get a phone call from a mentor of his named Duane who asked him Would you like
to be my co counselor at Jr camp this year . Nick replied with excitement saying yes
yes yes that is something i always thought of doing once i got older, but what
better time then in the present to start . Morton would also convince others such as
his best friend Dalton to come to jr camp and counsel, and the two had a blast
helping the younger generation grow in their faiths and in their walks with Jesus.
Also during his time in high school, Morton would meet some bread new friends
that would last a life time including Andrew, Caleb, Connor, Tyler, and Wil. These
guys along with Sam would all become some what of the kids during that time
would call a squad. Lastly during his high school years Nick would get to
experience his senior prom with his best friend Grace who he had met at camp and
had been going to church with for a better part of 7
The Dow Jones Industrial Index
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and NASDAQ composite are both significant
economic indicators. The Dow Jones was created by Charles Dow in 1896. The
Dow is a price weighted average of 30 significant stocks, most of which are traded on
the New York Stock exchange. The NASDAQ is the National Association of
Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System. It is the first and largest electronic
stock exchange in the world, consisting of more than 4000 companies. Both the Dow
Jones Industrial Averageand NASDAQare significant gauges of the current state of
the economy. However, the NASDAQ is much larger and includes more than 4000
companies, while the Dow Jones only includes 30 companies. All of the NASDAQ
stocks are also traded on the NASDAQ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The index also includes a broad range of companies, which allows people to
receive a good idea of the general condition and direction of the stock market. The
index can also be used to predict the direction of the stock market, which can be
helpful to some investors. This economic indicator is also a good tool for
comparing the current market to markets in the past because it has been around
for many years. The physiological importance that the Dow holds also increases its
significance greatly. The Dow is one of the highlights in financial news and even
people not familiar with the stock market have heard of it. The importance of the
Dow in financial news has a large influence over many people. The NASDAQ also
holds a lot of significance as an economic indicator. The main significance of the
NASDAQ composite index is that it is a representation of the stocks that are traded
on the NASDAQ stock exchange. There is no other exchange that has its own
popular index. This index is also very important because it represents a large
portion of tech and innovative companies. The NASDAQ is a very good indicator
of how the tech segments of the market are doing. The NASDAQ composite index
is also the NASDAQ s main and longest running index. The physiological
importance held by this indicator is also very significant because of how people
base the state of the stock market on the state of the index. The index is very
A Brief Explanation Of The Prisoner s Dilemma
Purpose: Introduction/background of problem
The purpose of this discussion is to give a brief explanation of the Prisoner s Dilemma
game, the notion of dominant strategy, and the concept of Nash equilibrium and
cooperation.
The Prisoner`s Dilemma game helps us understand what governs the balance between
cooperation and competition in business, in politics, and in social settings (Dixit
Nalebuff,
2008). An example, of a traditional method of this game is how a school principal
resolve
student conflicts by talking to both parties involved to determine the circumstance of
the event
that occurred. The strategy in this method is to try and determine the truth by
listening to two
conflicting stories of events. The Prisoner`s Dilemma in economics can be applied
when we look
at competing business and how they market their products to receive the best possible
revenue.
An example of this is the automobile industry and how to compete with one another
for customer
sale through competitive pricing and incentives. The notion of dominant strategy is
the notion
that one strategy is better than the other and this notion could typically give one side
an
advantage over another. This is great information to have but it all depends on how
this
information is implemented in a company s business practices. The concept of Nash
equilibrium
and cooperation is a concept that was developed by a mathematics graduate named,
John Forbes
Nash. The idea of the Nash
Decision Support Systems For Aide
Today s leaders have many choices when it comes to the use of decision support
systems to aide in information reduction to make informed decisions. Of the many
tools available, two in particular are useful in the presence of excessive information.
The Pugh Matrix which can be used to consolidate information and show the relative
difference in measurement criteria among different candidate choices. The decision
treeis a useful tool for making decisions when there are layered decisions that must
be made to reach a final result.
The Pugh Matrix is a decision support system that uses a matrix like representation
of the decision to be informed. It uses rows to represent the measurement criteria
and columns to represent the candidate choices. Although specifically developed
by Stuart Pugh to help in selecting between a number of design alternatives, the
tools has in recent years be used a general purpose decision making aid because of
its ease of use. [4] As described by Dr. Stuart Burge, in The Systems Engineering
Toolbox , the development of a Pugh Matrix can be described in a six step process.
With Step 1 being the identification and clear definition of the criteria for selection.
While Dr. Burge recommends adding weighting to the criteria in step 6 when there
is no clear winner, it is recommended that weighting criteria be established in this
step to prevent the weights from being affected by the scoring of candidate choices.
Step 2 is the selection of one candidate choice
What Is Your Resilience In Conquering Adversity In High...
Argument Essay Conquering adversity in high school is vital for our future
socially. We grow and learn in high school mentally and socially. Learning how to
do so early on will shape young people into responsible and well rounded adults.
This point was brought up by 2014 Michigan Teacher of the Year Nominee Chase
Mielke, who says It is your resilience in conquering the main event adversity that
truly prepares you for life after school . As a high schoolstudent myself, I have
overcome many challenges that gave me a new perspective in life, and I would like
to express how important that is. To overcome an obstacle at any age shapes your
mind for the better, but to do so at a young age will allow you to make strong
decisions in the future.

The Effects Of Workplace Stress On The United Kingdom
Courts
This study examined workplace stress in a random sample of litigated cases heard in
the United Kingdom courts. The majority of claims related to clinical depression. The
alleged causes of workplace stress most commonly cited in litigation included:
excessive workload, followed by poor management practices, organisational,
economic or technical change, aggressive managementstyle, and bullying by co
workers. The presence of effective workplace stressmanagement policies were
important interventions that played a particularly significant role in avoiding legal
action and reducing the detrimental experience of employees. A significant finding
was that 94 per cent of the cases were found in favour of the employer as the
defendant. Implications for managerial practice are suggested. This analysis of
seventy five cases between 2002 2014 will shed valuable light on the nature of
workplace stress claims litigated in the courts and the likely chance of success in
such cases.

Relevance of the Study

has received considerable attention in a wide variety of academic literature studies
as being a significant issue for employers, workers, and wider society (Karasek,
1979; Siegrist, 1985; Johnson Hall, 1988; McCaig Harrington, 1998; Smith 2001; de

Civil Rights Act Of 1964 Dbq
In 1863, Abraham Lincoln s Gettysburg Address defined the American government as
an institution of the people, by the people, [and] for the people . Lincoln had an
idealistic view of the government as an instrument for societal change. He, as well as
the founding fathers, intended for the government to act in support of the people s
will or the majority rule. This democratic definition of the government has remained
true throughout the course of American history. By placing all of its power on its
citizens, the government itself did not decide the course of history but rather
followed it. This follower mindset is seen through the government s positive
interactions with marginalized groups who in their attempts to overcome exclusion

A 1963 NOCR or National Opinion Research Center survey found that 85% of
whites endorsed the view that Negroes should have as good a chance to get any
kind of job . This progressive opinion contrasts the 1940 NOCR survey in which
55% of whites said that white people should have the first chance . The shift from
believing that whites should always get first pick to equal opportunity for all
demonstrates the enormous liberation in white opinions on race from 1940 to
1960. Another question on the 1963 NOCR survey found that 73% of whites
believed that Negroes should have the right to use the same parks, restaurants, and
hotels as white people . National white opinion in 1963, a year before the Civil
Rights Act of 1964, was highly favorable of integration and equality with blacks.
These changing opinions are highly due to the the Civil Rights Movement led by
Martin Luther King Junior which implemented a number of strategies including
using religion as an instrument for social change as well as fighting for basic
rights by making laws seem illogical. MLK s campaign for a more equal world
rang true in the ears of many Americans, helping the general positive sentiment for
black rights to rise. A year after the NOCR survey, President Johnson signed the
Civil Rights Act of 1964. This act, outlawed major forms of discrimination against
racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities as well as women. By passing the
Civil Rights Act, the government was facilitating the movement of black people to
the center of American life. This act also banned racial segregation in schools, at
workplaces and at facilities that served the general public. Although the banning of
racial segregation was already supported by the majority of American people, the
government s role in writing equality into formal

Academic Benefits Of Year-Round Schooling
Year round Schooling
Ever wonder why you can t remember what you learned at the beginning of school
last year? Trying to remember what you learned last year may not help, because
studies from the University of California show that students in grades 2nd through
9th can lose from 25 30% of what they learned the previous year. Although there are
academic benefits to a year round schedule schools should continue to operate on a
10 month 36 week schedule because it is traditional.
During a year round schedule there is a shorter summer break than at a regular school.
The summer break is usually 4 weeks long and the rest of the days are spread out in
the year. Some student say that a year round schedule is better because you get more
breaks
What Aspects Of The Museum Provide The Visitor With

When we say that something is original ... we are referring to the aspect of what can
be called authenticity or genuineness, that which is unique not because it is
necessarily different in topic or technique, but because it embodies one person s
experience with deep particularity. This statement, made by the poet Jane Hirshfield,
has provoked a reevaluation of my ideas of an authentic work of art, especially within
the museum. Authenticity has some definite, and some more vague definitions. In
the following paper, I plan to explore what aspects of the museum provide the visitor
with an authentic experience, allowing them to access something authentic. Three
institutions will be examined: Winterthur Museum, Garden Library (Winterthur), the
Barnes Foundation, and Philadelphia s Magic Gardens (PMG); each institution
provides the visitor with a different type of experience, some more authentic than
others. I would first like to start by examining Winterthur within the context of the
article, The Precession of Simulacra, by Jean Baudrillard. Baudrillard describes
different levels and types of simulacra that exist, which I view as a sort of scale
between simulation and hyperreality, where the real is something entirely separate.
Authenticity falls within this model in the real. Winterthur exists in a state of
hyperreality. It is a historic house, which was once the home of Henry Francis du Pont
, a collector of American decorative arts. In the 1950s the house was converted

Bullying And Cyberbullying
Even when out with friends instead of being at home on a cell phone or IPad, there
is still an excessive amount of time spent on phones instead with the other individual.
How often are there couples out to eat and they are both scrolling through their
phones instead of talking? How often are there groups of friends hanging out
together and half of them are on their phones? This practice of using the phone in
public and ignoring other individuals is now known as phubbing, or phone snubbing
(Beck.) Phubbing is becoming more and more acceptable because it is becoming so
common to see.

In effect, the Internet provides a very large window through which the government,
employers, businesses, and criminals can find out more than they should about you
and your money, habits, beliefs, and health. (Beatty) As online consumers, we enter
personal information without really knowing who has access to that information.
A large percent of websites participate in what is called behavioral targeting. They
install tracking tools onto the computers of visitors to their sites. These tracking tools
gather information such as the websites visited or sometimes even the keystrokes
used when entering information. This information is then sold to data gathering
profiles. There are three pieces of information that individuals usually freely give
without too much thought or hesitation: zip code, date of birth, and gender. This
information, that could be enough to narrow down to a name and address, is often
sold to advertisers. In short, Internet users are inadvertently providing intensely
personal dad to unknown people for unknown uses (Beatty.)
Another problem with having so much technology is that there are actual health
problems being found to have a connection to technology and the excessive use of it.

The Asperger Syndrome (RTT)
About Asperger Syndrome
The disorder is named after Hans Asperger, a Viennese pediatrician who, in 1944,
first described a set of behavior patterns apparent in some of his patients, mostly
males. Asperger noticed that although these boys had normal intelligence and
language development, they had severely impaired social skills, were unable to
communicate effectively with others, and had poor coordination.
According to the Asperger Syndrome Coalition of the United States, the onset of AS
may be later than what is typical in autism or at least it is recognized later. Many kids
are diagnosed after age 3, with most diagnosed between the ages of 5 and 9.
AS is characterized by poor social interactions, obsessions, odd speech patterns, and

Onset occurs between 6 and 18 months of age.[9] During this time there are subtle
developmental deviations and early indicators of Rett syndrome. A period of
developmental stagnation is followed by developmental regression where language

in the rate of head growth (resulting in microcephaly in some) is seen. Hand
stereotypes are typical, and breathing irregularities such as hyperventilation,
breathholding, or sighing are seen in many. Early on, autistic like behavior may be
seen. The infant with Rett syndrome often avoids detection until 6 18 months, owing
to a relatively normal appearance and some developmental progress. However,
closer scrutiny reveals disturbance of the normal spontaneous limb and body
movements that are thought to be regulated in the brainstem. The brief period of
developmental progress is followed by stagnation and regression of previously
acquired skills. During regression, some features are similar to those of autism. It is,
hence, easy to mistakenly diagnose Rett syndrome for
Monetary Policies And Monetary Policy
Monetary Policies (Introduction)
The objective of monetary policy is to reserve the worth of the money by keeping
inflation low, stable and predictable that lets Canadians be more confident about the
spending and investment choices. It reassures long term investment in Canada s
economy as well as contributes to continuous job creation and better the production. It
helps improve living standard. Canada s monetary policy outline consists of two key
components working together and reinforcing each other: the inflation control target
and the flexible exchange rate. The inflation control target directs the decisions of the
Bank regarding the proper setting of the policy interest rate that maintains a stable
price environment throughout the medium term.
Influencing Short Term Interest Rates As to reach the inflation target, the banks
have to make changes in the policy rate by raising or lowering it. If inflation is
beyond target, the banks will have to increase the policy rate, this inspires
institutions to increase interest rates on the loan and mortgages. Discouraging
borrowing and spending which enables upward pressure on price. If inflation is
under the goal, banks will lower the policy rate which would then encourage
financial institutions to lower interest rates on the loans and mortgages. This
information shows how much banks are concerned about inflation going higher or
lower in terms of the goal. The key policy interest rates are when banks expect to be
used in
Similarities Between Judicial Activism And Strict...
The Supreme Court is made up of many justices that believe in two different
judicial philosophies. These two philosophies are that of judicial activism and strict
constructionism. These philosophies differ quite a bit from one another, but they
both work toward the same main goal. Both philosophies play a part in court cases
when it comes to deciding on a final ruling. Judicial activism is a judicial philosophy
that states that a court has the right to, and should go beyond what is stated in the
Constitution about an issue that is being brought up and look towards broader
suggestions of the impending decision on said issue. Basically, the court strikes
down a law and then makes a statement that [may] change a law or policy in a

In this case the Supreme Court determined that Texas law criminalizing, or
essentially trying to outlaw abortion was unconstitutional. Strict Constructionism,
on the other hand, is a distinct legal philosophy that limits or controls some judicial
interpretation. A judge who uses strict constructionism, may reject the use of
legislative history when constructing law because whatever a particular legislator
may have said while on the floor of congress does not necessarily reflect what was
put into law (Stankiewicz) . Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court is
probably one of the most we ll know users of strict constructionism. In essence, he
believes that the Constitution should only ever be interpreted the way it was
written never any different. Scalia also believes that the Constitution should not be
susceptible to any form of updating by any court. In 2015 the Supreme Court ruled
on a case about same sex marriage, Obergfell v. Hodges. The final ruling (holding)
of the case, stated by SCOTUSBlog, the fourteenth amendment requires a state to
license a marriage between two people of the same sex and also to recognize a
marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully
licensed and performed

Siege of Cawnpore
The Siege of Cawnpore was an important part of the Indian rebellion of 1857.When
Nana Sahib captured Cawnpore (now Kanpur) British forces surrendered to him and
in turn he promised them a safe passage to Allahabad. Unfortunately their evacuation
had turned into a massacre during which most of them were killed. It was indeed an
unpleasant event of siege of Kanpur.
Kanpur was an important garrison town situated on the Grand Trunk Road and Grand
Trunk Canal beside the river Ganges and lay on the approaches to Punjab, Sind and
Oudh provinces.
In 1857, British ruled two thirds of India through East India Company. The remaining
part of the country was under the control of Princes with whom the British had an
alliance. The year 1857 was an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During siege the British felt that the magazine situated in the northern part of
Cawnpore was the most suitable defensive place for them to stay. It had thick walls,
ample ammunition and stores and also hosted the local treasury. But General
Wheeler decided to take refuge in the southern part of the city, in an entrenchment
that was composed of two barracks surrounded by a mud wall. This area didn t have
proper sanitary facilities. It had only one well. There were several buildings
overlooking the entrenchment which would provide cover for the attackers.
There were many other safe places in Cawnpore but General Wheeler s choice of
choosing this place stands still controversial. He might have expected the
reinforcements to arrive from the southern part of the city. He might have also
assumed that, in case of a rebellion, the Indian troops would probably collect their
arms, ammunition and money and would head to Delhi and therefore, he did not
expect such a long siege.
After three weeks of siege, the British started facing the difficulties. The summers
were very hot. Many died due to sunstroke. They were short of ammunition as they
had to face successive bombardments, snip fire and assaults from Nana Sahib s side.
Their food supplies were getting exhausted and they had to face starvation. People
were becoming sick and they were deprived of medical facilities. In such a situation

Bacon of Long Island, New York; it was passed by congress and signed into law by
President Herbert Hoover on March 3, 1931.
Over the next four years Bacon introduced thirteen more bills to establish
regulation of labor on federal public works projects.[10] Finally, a bill submitted by
Bacon and Senator James J. Davis, with the support of the American Federation of
Labor,[11] passed in 1931. The law provided that all federal construction contractors
with contracts in excess of $5,000 or more must pay their workers the prevailing
wage, which in practice meant the wages of unionized labor.
The measure passed because Congressmen saw the bill as protection for local,
unionized[12] white workers salaries in the fierce labor market of the
Depression.[13] In particular, white union workers were angry that black workers
who were barred from unions were migrating to the North in search of jobs in the
building trades and undercutting white wages.[14]
The comments of various congressmen reveal the racial animus that motivated the
sponsors and supporters of the bill. In 1930, Representative John J. Cochran of
Missouri stated that he had received numerous complaints in recent months about
southern contractors employing low paid colored mechanics getting work and
bringing the employees from the South. [15] Representative Clayton Allgood,
supporting Davis Bacon on the floor of the House, complained of cheap
New Imperialism In Europe During The Late Nineteenth
Century
During the late nineteenth century, there was a huge conflict between European
countries. This conflict was for overseas territories. This was called New
Imperialism. What were the motives? Social, economic, and political reasons urged
the New Imperialism movement to grow. Economics played a major role in New
Imperialism. There was a great demand for natural resources, such as rubber, tin,
and oil, in the Western countries. The search for these natural resources caused the
countries to expand. Instead of trading, they decided to take direct control over the
territories where the resources were found. The growth of European industry,
increase in production capacity, and excess amount of capital made it necessary to
find new markets, new sources of raw materials, and new areas for capital investment
in bigger countries. Additionally, economic expansion urged for cheap labor and
access to, or control of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social Darwinism (survival of the fittest) was closely tied to New Imperialism. It
justified European countries taking over Africa and Asia. Europeans were superior to
Africans and Asians. European countries was willing to use this theory because it
fits their interest all around the world. They believed they are the strongest race and
would bring the civilization to the ignorant. Religion and education influenced
Europeans to take over less civilized people as well. They felt the obligation to
spread their religion and rule over ignorant, non civilized people. Missionaries,
doctors, and colonial officials felt it was their duty to spread western blessings, or
their medicine, law and religion. Colonialism was seen as natural and certain, and
justification was given through Social Darwinian. Europeans saw natives as weak
and unfit to survive. They believed that they were the superior race, and those who

today because they want to be aware of opportunities, concerns, and risks etc.
While this style is popular, it is not 100% effective and will likely become less
effective as technology continues to evolve and more people work outside the office.
Virgin Group is a company with employees worldwide; if Sir Branson wants to retain
and increase organizational success he must enhance his Leadership Style by
including components of Global Leadership. For example, Sir Branson recognizes the
future trend of global warming and made a personal investment in anticipation of
future opportunities. However, he may have missed an opportunity to include the
Virgin Group team/organization in his personal vision.
The Global Warming initiative could be an opportunity to for Sir Branson to inspire
and lead his Global Team and effect positive, productive change within the
organization on a global level.
As the organization grows and technology advances, he may have fewer opportunities
to respond personally to letters and e mail communications daily. Face to face visits
with employees at Virgin Group locations may have to be replaced with a different
method of personalized communication.
Recommend a different leadership style (or combination of styles) that would make
Branson an even more effective leader.
I would recommend a combination of the Facilitate and Delegate leadership styles for

Marine Battery Charger Research Paper
Marine Battery Charger Reviews As a boat owner, you are probably always
searching for a quality marine battery that can keep up with your electronics. What
you may not realize is that the quality of your battery extends to the type of battery
charger that you use when it is dead. To help you gain more understanding of why
it matters and which type may work best for you, consider these marine battery
charger reviews. Why You Need a Marine Battery Charger Even an excellent
quality marine battery may die a quick death if it is not charged the right way. This
is because most boaters venture out during only select times of the year and it leads
to times of inactivity followed by times where they expect their battery to keep up
with anything they throw its way. If you were to use it more consistently, it would
not be as hard to keep your marine battery healthy. Oddly enough, it is the inactive
times of the season that pose the most strain on your battery. That is, unless you

people prefer, benefit more from a battery charger that is designed to charge them.

Humanization In Max Weber s The Mcdonaldization Of
Society
In our current society, patterns and innovation turn out to be such a vast piece of
regular day to day existence that individuals begin to utilize them as verbs and
descriptors. For instance, when s the last time you Googled something, blogged about
a current trek, or saw that another amusement had been Facebooked? George Ritzer
essentially did likewise with the fast foodeatery McDonald s in his smash hit book,
The McDonaldizationof Society. He characterizes McDonaldization as the procedure
by which standards of fast food eateries have come to command basically every part
of society.
McDonald s and other fast food eateries offer a contrasting option to work escalated,
home cooked suppers that have been alluring to occupied families since the 1950s.
Two of their most engaging qualities are comfort and moderateness. These qualities
and comparative standards are winding up progressively vital in all parts of our
cutting edge society.
The building square of McDonaldization is Max Weber s idea of legitimization,
which is the way toward supplanting customary and enthusiastic idea with reason and
proficiency. Weber trusted that most social orders all through history were
represented by convention and that the most noteworthy pattern in present day
humanism is an expanding legitimization of all aspects of our day by day lives. He
likewise trusted that defense would proceed until the point when our general public
would turn into an iron enclosure, dehumanizing everybody

However, many people pray about problems reactively instead of proactively,
because they are suddenly in a crisis that they need God to fix. If a church realizes
that it will have to close their doors in the next year because of a lack of funds, this
is not the first time that this problem came to light. The time to pray is not when
people realize that there is a problem, but before there is a problem. We should not
expect God to suddenly answer our prayers at the beckoning of our call, simply
because we have a problem that needs to be fixed. God can speak to people in
multiple ways, but it is not wise to rely on divine intervention for major decisions
of the church. God put people on earth for a reason, because it is not good that man
should be alone. If a church is going to close its doors within a year, they probably
should have been praying beforehand about the health of the church, and should have
been more open to change in the church. Too many churches die because people will
let that church die before they change their own stubbornness. In prayer, people must
call early, often, and before problems happen so that issues can be fixed before the
integrity of the church is

The Science of Management Throughout History Essay
Management Thought
Management is one of the areas of modern economics, aimed at the creation, planning
and implementation of development plan for businesses, organizations, and firms in
order to maximize the potential profit of the company, creating a sustainable
enterprise management system (Drucker, 1993). Management helps companies to
achieve a certain goal step by step. In order to achieve targets companies demand
managers. A Manager is the person responsible for planning and directing the work of
a group of individuals, monitoring their work, and taking corrective action when
necessary (Reh).

Labor productivity grows, increasing both gross and net product. According to
Smith, the nation s economy can grow only with the growth of its capital, and its
capital can grow only to the extent that it gradually makes its income from savings.
In other words, capital limits economy. Thus, the capital the true essence of
economic life. As soon as it grows or diminishes, or opens it work all the way, or

The Relevance Of Translational Research

behavioural concepts such as closed economies, unit price and the matching law can
allow us to better understand and predict human choice behaviour that meets social
significance.
Translational Research
A statement made by Jong Wook (2005) sums up very well the problem gap that is
between research and practice, that is, to act upon something without having
knowledge and understanding is a lost cause and to have knowledge without acting
upon it is a waste of resourcefulness. The aim of translational research is to bridge the
gap between what we have discovered in basic science and implement them into

Vollmer (2011) described three types of translational research. They are; 1)
application of basic principles from laboratory to people whereby variables that
affect response allocation are identified (schedules of reinforcement for example), 2)
utilising principles or methods from laboratory research to solve applied problems
(substance misuse for example, the aim is to simulate this in the laboratory and
apply what has been found), and lastly, 3) translating the logic of behaviour methods
(by which we extend our understanding of methods and principles to address
complex social issues) (Fisher Mazur 1997).
Hursh (1980) was one of the first to propose that behavioural economics can be useful
to the field of behaviour analysis in that it could advance our knowledge of human
behaviour. He translated reinforcers into economic terms in which operant concepts
can explain these principles (Hursh 1984). According to Reed et al. (2013) the way in
which positive behaviour change can prove maintainable is through the principles of
behaviour economics whereby, our understanding of the environment is key to such
behaviour change.

The Theory Of Organizational Change
Literature Synthesis The idea of change can alarm any system and lead to unexpected
reactions from the members associated with the system. As the change begins to be
implemented, these uncertainties intensify and can lead to crisis. This phenomenon
becomes even more crucial when the system involves an organization with leaders
and those members with non managerial responsibilities. When change is being
implemented within an organization by its leaders, the consequences of it can be
underestimated or ignored by them, resulting in crises and, eventually, failure of the
change efforts. In order for change to succeed, specifically in today s business world,
where organizations are constantly undergoing change at a fast rate, companies
should educate their employees in understanding and supporting change. Taking both
organizational and employee perspectives into account, Armenakis and Bedeian
(1999) have reviewed major research publications on the theory of organizational
change from 1987 to 1999. To set a basis for selecting from the vast number of the
available material, their study was concentrated on those researches focusing on the
fundamentals of organizational change dynamics. The researchers acknowledge the
effect of the extent of their resource selection on the literature review outcome,
stating that their choice of subject area will provide a deeper understanding of the
existing approaches governing organizational change. In order to make their research
manageable,

I began popping pills when I was thirteen. Anything and everything I could get my
hands on. My friends and I would meet before school, taking various containers out
of our bags. Mine was a Wrigley s Doublemint Gum tin. We would open them up,
displaying pills of various shapes, colors, and sizes. We had our own mini
pharmacy with it s own barter system of sorts. A few anti depressants for an
Adderall, or a muscle relaxer for a Klonopin. Half of them we didn t even know
what they were. We all could get different stuff, so together we had a rainbow of
pharmaceuticals.
My favorite however, was Effexor. My grandmother had them for depression
associated with bipolar disorder, but she never took them. It was easy to swipe the
bottle. The pills were these bright orange capsules, with little white beads inside. It
felt like a maraca as they slid down my throat. Over time, taking one, became taking
four at a time. After taking them I would experience severe stomach cramps, nausea,
dizziness, and migraines. My friends were popping pills for fun, but I was taking
them to suffer. I wanted so badly to forget about the emotional pain I was going
through, I wanted to feel physically how I felt mentally everyday. If I hurt, that s all

moment is presented as one of the first lessons that Billy teaches Nancy, that the
pills are bad and somehow making her less of a woman. However, what it really
suggests is that a woman isn t worth listening to if her sexuality isn t involved.
Once Nancy reaches Billy s hideout, other women are more than happy to assist
him in raping her. It is later revealed that all of these other women were also once
raped by Billy but have now they understand and they re grateful. The fact that
these victims would not only be happy to assist their rapist and kidnapper but also
are described as almost worshipping him seems to suggest more of a Stockholm
syndrome situation instead of one where Billy has saved them. Billy obviously
holds the power within his gang and these women are willing to do whatever it takes
to help him rape other women. The idea that all these women needed to become
grateful was to be forcefully deflowered by Billy perpetuates the patriarchal idea that
women need to be introduced (often forcefully) to their own sexuality. Instead of just
letting the women stop taking their pills and then waiting for them to make their own

While the e Books industry posed a serious threat to the retail books industry,
Barnes and Noble jumped into a new market too soon and unprepared. In order to
prove itself equal, Barnes and Noble has sacrificed its biggest advantage physical
bookstores which catered to book lovers impulsive need of selecting books from
the shelves. The company launched its own dedicated e reader device Nook to get
itself into the e books game which cost them a heavy R amp;D investment
especially when their core business has always been low tech. While the features
offered in Nook are almost similar to Amazon s kindle, it is still far behind the
Kindle s 60% market share. Nook s decreasing sales patterns over the years have
revealed that Amazon, Apple and Google are the major industry players in the
reading device market and Barnes and Noble is lagging behind because it lacks the
innovation required for a software company. Barnes and Noble could never afford
to sell Nook devices as cheap as Kindles, and hence they should have collaborated
with one of the industry players Apple or Google in order to be in the race of
eBook readers. If Nook fails in future, Barnes and Noble should go back to the
retail sales of physical and eBooks since they were the pioneers of Book Selling
companies. Unlike DRM relaxation in digital music, publishers did not want to do
the same with eBooks because they feared what happened to the music business when
Napster arrived on the scene and resulted in
Comparing Araby and Genesis Essay
Parallels between Araby and Genesis
In the Bible, the story of creation occurs in the garden of Eden. The book of Genesis
tells the tale of Adam and Eve, whom God allowed to eat the fruit from any tree in
the garden except for that of the central tree of knowledge. Unfortunately, with the
serpent s deceitful encouragement, Eve enticed Adam to eat from that banned tree.
The fruit opened Adam s eyes to the reality that he was naked (Gen. 3:7 20).
Interestingly, the second paragraph of Araby alludes to the Genesis account of Eden.
The wild garden behind the house contained a central apple tree and a few straggling
bushes. Aside from commenting on the eroded isle of Ireland, Joyce uses this allusion
to arrange the entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later the narrator tells of how he follows her to school and how he thinks about her
constantly, much like an adolescent in love would do. This feeling is not foreign to
any reader; during the youth of our lives, we too have desired someone at a point
beyond normality.
Adam, the narrator, is obviously infatuated with Mangan s sister. Similar to what an
adolescent would do, the narrator trusts his love and will do anything for her. Such
is the case when discussing Araby, a bazaar. As she cannot attend due to a prior
engagement, the narrator agrees to get her something if he goes. Thus, the narrator
offers to do something beyond what he would normally do. Since the first mention
of Araby is the narrator s conversation with Mangan s sister, the bazaar apparently is
neither a normal nor an extraordinarily popular event. Coupled with the aunt s
surprise at the narrator s desire to visit the bazaar, a reader receives the feeling that
the narrator would not have otherwise gone to Araby.
Eve has shown Adam the fruit, and Adam is weighing its opportunities. Without
desire for schoolwork and little more for play, the narrator had hardly any patience
with the serious work of life, which...seemed to [him] child s play, ugly monotonous
child s play. Clearly, the narrator is enthralled by Araby. The Eastern connotation to

Values And Ethics Of Social Work
Values and ethics are important in the field of social work because they serve as
guidelines for behavior and conduct. What is social work exactly? A very simple
and brief response is helping those in need and providing said persons with
resources they could not attain on their own. It s always aspiring to educate one s
self on new resources, information and newly developed theories. This is more than
a career; this is a decision that makes one question the direction of their moral
compass.
Philosopher Mortimer Adler states, Moral virtues are like the arts or skills, they are
habits formed by repeated acts. Simply put values are a measure of what is
paramount and just. When we practice values that are congruent, we develop and put
into practice the skills outlined in the foundations of social work.
Ethics are the specific standards of values that social workers must follow. They
are the likeness of the values in the way they mirror principles. Charles Levy once
said in a lecture that social workers in a strategic position to affect others and their
interest, what are value based aspirations affecting the conduct of people in general
are, for social workers, enforceable imperatives.
To be a social worker, one needs to have clear and concise boundaries when they
practice. For example, to understand a client the social worker must level with said
person and engage them on a personal level that develops trust but at the same time
they must always remain professional and
Advantage And Disadvantage Of Myopia
Vision is one of the most valuable sensory modalities. It is also the source of an
impressive display of research questions relating to how we see, how and why vision
fails, and what can be done about it.
It is customarily stated that we are now living in the century of technology, and all
surrounded things are computers, TV, cell phones and other devices.
The development of electronic machinery increased the number of people who have
eye problems. Ophthalmologists, the doctors who treat eye disorders, are taking
patients every day, and saying that the number of sick people, especially teenagers,
noticeably increased. Such number is registered in China and other East Asian
countries.

People have to deal with glasses, contact lenses and even laser eye surgery.
Nevertheless, researchers say there are serious consequences of such high rates of
myopia among young people.
They grow older and the epidemic is then in older adults, said Saw, head of the
myopia unit at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. ()
As people age, they can become at higher risk for severe eye disorders such as high
myopia, glaucoma (optic nerve damage), cataracts (clouding of the lens) and retinal
detachment. These conditions could bring to vision loss and blindness.
Is there a way to prevent a child from becoming nearsighted? Yes. The key is to
catch the problem once the child experiences the very first indication of any
difficulty seeing distant objects like the writing on the board at school. Frequently,
eye doctors will prescribe eyeglasses to treat your vision making it less blurred.
Unfortunately, while you will wear it, your nearsightedness will be becoming worse
and irreversible, because the focusing muscles will atrophy (stay locked up). Then

Influence
1.Our Level of Influence is not Static Maxwell and Dornan commence by addressing
several fallacies related to becoming a person of influence. One myth the author
attempts to dispel is that past performance always determines future success. They
assert that an individual s level of influence is not static (1997, Introduction, sec.
Positive Influencers Add Value , para. 2). One need not assume their impact with
others in the past dictates their influence with them tomorrow. Paul describes a
similar sentiment in Romans 12, God assures Paul that, human weaknesses or failures
are never a limitation upon God s ability (verse 9). Furthermore, these limitations that
may otherwise disqualify me, actually, can serve to magnify God s strength as... Show

There is a modern parable about character where an administrative assistant refuses
to lie on behalf of her boss. In response to the boss reprimand, she reminds him that,
while she will never lie for him, he can rest assured that she will, also, never lie to
him. Early in ministry, I was asked to take responsibility for registration at a large
conference for Chi Alpha. Everything was great, until one year, I discovered a
discrepancy of over a thousand dollars. After checking and rechecking my numbers, I
apologetically reported the problem to my superior. While everything was clarified
the next day, it was the willingness to be responsible even before anyone knew there
was a problem that has secured access to opportunities that would have remained
unattainable despite all the technical aptitude I could demonstrate. 3.Enlarging People
Chapter 6 addresses the concept of enlarging others with a powerful personal
testimony of a former president of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. He asserts that, if
companies would concentrate on facilitating the development of their human
resource, they need not concern themselves with the quality or efficiency of their
product (Maxwell Dornan, 1997, chapter 6, sec. Enlarging Others is an Investment ,
para. 2). But, recognizing the

Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma is neoplasm arising from the serosal lining of the

mesothelioma are extremely rare. The accurate diagnosis of the diffuse peritoneal
mesothelioma is important because it almost invariably has a fatal outcome. In many

Survival Of The Sickest
Diseases are often associated with a negative connotation. We blame disease for the
death of our loved ones, depression in families, financial issues due to hospital bills.
But what if we seek beyond the consequences it brings us but instead notice the
benefits? The new information we were able to gather based on the human body
was by researching the illness. Survival of the Sickest, written by Dr. Sharon
Moalem describes a number of illnesses and how it has altered our perspectives on
these illnesses. Diabetes, Hemochromatosis, and Dracunculiasis are all maladies
scientists have discovered facts that not only learn more about those particular
diseases but also other illnesses and the human biology.

This could lead to effects such as blindness, strokes, and heart disease. Until a
method of injecting insulin appeared, it was difficult to tame diabetes. Diabetes
affects many areas in the body but usually attacks the eyes, blood vessels, arteries,
and kidneys. Despite this, scientists are still not sure what causes this disorder.
According to Dr. Moalem, the reason is a complex combination that can involve
inheritance, infections, diet, and environmental factors (Moalem, 25) so it is difficult
to pin point one exact reason. Hence, because of the lack of information, researchers

Halloween Haunt
It all started Halloween of 2013 when my friend Luke asked my other friend
Mythony, his brother Malik, and me if we wanted to go to the Halloween Haunt at
Great America. We all said yes, so we made plans to go Halloween weekend.
However, something went wrong and we weren t going to be able to go to Great
America, so Luke asked the rest of us if we wanted to go to Swank Farms instead.
We figured that it was better than nothing, so we decided to go to Swank Farms. A
week went by, and now it was the day before Halloween, the day we decided we
would go to Swank Farms. Luke s mom came to our houses and picked us up, and
then we left for Swank Farms. It was a bit of a drive to Hollister, but we got there

What animal is black and white and loved all over the world? If you guessed the

Giant pandas are among the rarest mammals in the world. There are probably less
than 1,000 left in the wild. Although adult giant pandas have few natural enemies, the
young are sometimes preyed upon by leopards. Habitat encroachment and destruction
are the greatest threats to the continued existence of the giant panda. This is mainly
because of the demand for land and natural resources by China s 1 billion inhabitants.
To offset this situation, the Chinese government has set aside 11 nature preserves
where bamboo flourishes and giant pandas are known to live.
Giant pandas are being poached, because their dense fur carries a high price in
illegal markets in the Far East. The Chinese government has imposed life sentences
for those convicted of poaching giant pandas. The low reproductive capacity of the
giant panda makes it more vulnerable to these threats, and less capable of
rebounding from its low numbers. In 1984, due to its decreasing numbers, the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service listed the giant panda as an endangered species under the
Endangered Species Act. This means it is considered in danger of extinction
throughout all of its range.
This protection also prohibits giant pandas from being imported into the U.S. except
under certain conditions. What you can do to help: Join WWF (World Wildlife

A Master of Science degree (in Latin, Magister Scientaie) is a postgraduate
academic Master s Degree awarded by universities worldwide. In abbreviated form,
the degree may appear on academic transcripts variously as MSc., M.Sc., M.Sci.,

The latter option is most common. It involves writing and defending a thesis or
completing a research project which represents the culmination of the material
learned.
Admission to a Master s program is normally contingent upon holding a bachelor s
degree. Should the student desire to graduate from a doctoral program, Master s
level training is a prerequisite. In some fields or graduate programs, work on a
doctorate can begin as soon as the bachelor s degree is finished. Some programs offer
a joint Bachelor s and Master s degree after four to five years of study. At the
completion of these programs both a B.A. and an M.S. can be awarded.
For thesis projects, students will typically work with an academic adviser to
propose a topic, write a research prospectus and draft a final paper describing the
research results. The research process takes about one year. The thesis is then
reviewed by the student s academic committee who must approve the paper before
the student can proceed to graduation. If revisions are needed, graduation could be
delayed for one or more semesters.
Many graduate schools have residency requirements to complete a degree. A student
may be required to spend at least one year living on campus and must accumulate a
minimum number of course credits to be considered eligible for his degree. As online
graduate education advanced, this residency requirement has been adjusted.

This is the case in the novel, Cloudstreet, in which values and attitudes of Australian life are presented in the story of two families sharing one house. The author, Tim Winton, may have directed these attitudes and values at the Australian society to provide the people involved within, an understanding of themselves and their culture, and also make an attempt at pushing his own interpretation of them. In Cloudstreet, Winton has effectively used the role of the woman and the man to express more modern attitudes and values of Australian life. Lester ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Acid Rain Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the northeastern United States, in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also occurs in other parts of the world as well (Baker Schofield, 1982). The acidification on the surface of water causes many fish populations to decline in soft water aquatic environments, that are exposed to acidprecipitation (Neville Campell, 1988). This acidification of the surface water is caused by acid rain. Acid rain or otherwise known as acid deposition is a term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that comes down from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms. These forms include rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that can be acidic. Acid rain is caused by when sulfur dioxide(SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are put into the atmosphere and then transported by wind and air currents. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygenand other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids. These chemicals then mix with water and other materials before falling into the ground. A small portion of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain from natural sources like volcanoes, but most of it comes from the burning of fossil fuel (Feely, et al., 2010). Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are two of the major sources associated towards acid rain. Atmospheric deposition of the sulfur and nitrogen molecules is derived from coal fired

The Prisoner`s Dilemma game helps us understand what governs the balance between cooperation and competition in business, in politics, and in social settings (Dixit Nalebuff, 2008). An example, of a traditional method of this game is how a school principal resolve student conflicts by talking to both parties involved to determine the circumstance of the event that occurred. The strategy in this method is to try and determine the truth by listening to two conflicting stories of events. The Prisoner`s Dilemma in economics can be applied when we look at competing business and how they market their products to receive the best possible revenue. An example of this is the automobile industry and how to compete with one another for customer sale through competitive pricing and incentives. The notion of dominant strategy is the notion that one strategy is better than the other and this notion could typically give one side an advantage over another. This is great information to have but it all depends on how this information is implemented in a company s business practices. The concept of Nash equilibrium and cooperation is a concept that was developed by a mathematics graduate named, John Forbes

  • 10. Decision Support Systems For Aide Today s leaders have many choices when it comes to the use of decision support systems to aide in information reduction to make informed decisions. Of the many tools available, two in particular are useful in the presence of excessive information. The Pugh Matrix which can be used to consolidate information and show the relative difference in measurement criteria among different candidate choices. The decision treeis a useful tool for making decisions when there are layered decisions that must be made to reach a final result. The Pugh Matrix is a decision support system that uses a matrix like representation of the decision to be informed. It uses rows to represent the measurement criteria and columns to represent the candidate choices. Although specifically developed by Stuart Pugh to help in selecting between a number of design alternatives, the tools has in recent years be used a general purpose decision making aid because of its ease of use. [4] As described by Dr. Stuart Burge, in The Systems Engineering Toolbox , the development of a Pugh Matrix can be described in a six step process. With Step 1 being the identification and clear definition of the criteria for selection. While Dr. Burge recommends adding weighting to the criteria in step 6 when there is no clear winner, it is recommended that weighting criteria be established in this step to prevent the weights from being affected by the scoring of candidate choices. Step 2 is the selection of one candidate choice

We grow and learn in high school mentally and socially. Learning how to do so early on will shape young people into responsible and well rounded adults. This point was brought up by 2014 Michigan Teacher of the Year Nominee Chase Mielke, who says It is your resilience in conquering the main event adversity that truly prepares you for life after school . As a high schoolstudent myself, I have overcome many challenges that gave me a new perspective in life, and I would like to express how important that is. To overcome an obstacle at any age shapes your mind for the better, but to do so at a young age will allow you to make strong decisions in the future.

  • 13. The Effects Of Workplace Stress On The United Kingdom Courts This study examined workplace stress in a random sample of litigated cases heard in the United Kingdom courts. The majority of claims related to clinical depression. The alleged causes of workplace stress most commonly cited in litigation included: excessive workload, followed by poor management practices, organisational, economic or technical change, aggressive managementstyle, and bullying by co workers. The presence of effective workplace stressmanagement policies were important interventions that played a particularly significant role in avoiding legal action and reducing the detrimental experience of employees. A significant finding was that 94 per cent of the cases were found in favour of the employer as the defendant. Implications for managerial practice are suggested. This analysis of seventy five cases between 2002 2014 will shed valuable light on the nature of workplace stress claims litigated in the courts and the likely chance of success in such cases. Keywords: workplace stress .litigated cases.managerial . behaviour . legal rights Relevance of the Study Since Karasek s landmark paper appeared in 1979, stress in the work environment has received considerable attention in a wide variety of academic literature studies as being a significant issue for employers, workers, and wider society (Karasek, 1979; Siegrist, 1985; Johnson Hall, 1988; McCaig Harrington, 1998; Smith 2001; de Lange, Taris, Kompier, Houtman, Bongers, 2008). Lincoln had an idealistic view of the government as an instrument for societal change. He, as well as the founding fathers, intended for the government to act in support of the people s will or the majority rule. This democratic definition of the government has remained true throughout the course of American history. By placing all of its power on its citizens, the government itself did not decide the course of history but rather followed it. A 1963 NOCR or National Opinion Research Center survey found that 85% of whites endorsed the view that Negroes should have as good a chance to get any kind of job . This progressive opinion contrasts the 1940 NOCR survey in which 55% of whites said that white people should have the first chance . The shift from believing that whites should always get first pick to equal opportunity for all demonstrates the enormous liberation in white opinions on race from 1940 to 1960. Another question on the 1963 NOCR survey found that 73% of whites believed that Negroes should have the right to use the same parks, restaurants, and hotels as white people . National white opinion in 1963, a year before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, was highly favorable of integration and equality with blacks. These changing opinions are highly due to the the Civil Rights Movement led by Martin Luther King Junior which implemented a number of strategies including using religion as an instrument for social change as well as fighting for basic rights by making laws seem illogical. MLK s campaign for a more equal world rang true in the ears of many Americans, helping the general positive sentiment for black rights to rise. A year after the NOCR survey, President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This act, outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities as well as women. By passing the Civil Rights Act, the government was facilitating the movement of black people to the center of American life. This act also banned racial segregation in schools, at workplaces and at facilities that served the general public. Although the banning of racial segregation was already supported by the majority of American people, the government s role in writing equality into formal

When we say that something is original ... we are referring to the aspect of what can be called authenticity or genuineness, that which is unique not because it is necessarily different in topic or technique, but because it embodies one person s experience with deep particularity. This statement, made by the poet Jane Hirshfield, has provoked a reevaluation of my ideas of an authentic work of art, especially within the museum. Authenticity has some definite, and some more vague definitions. In the following paper, I plan to explore what aspects of the museum provide the visitor with an authentic experience, allowing them to access something authentic. Three institutions will be examined: Winterthur Museum, Garden Library (Winterthur), the Barnes Foundation, and Philadelphia s Magic Gardens (PMG); each institution provides the visitor with a different type of experience, some more authentic than others. I would first like to start by examining Winterthur within the context of the article, The Precession of Simulacra, by Jean Baudrillard. Baudrillard describes different levels and types of simulacra that exist, which I view as a sort of scale between simulation and hyperreality, where the real is something entirely separate. Authenticity falls within this model in the real. Winterthur exists in a state of hyperreality. It is a historic house, which was once the home of Henry Francis du Pont , a collector of American decorative arts. In the 1950s the house was converted

Hand stereotypes are typical, and breathing irregularities such as hyperventilation, breathholding, or sighing are seen in many. Early on, autistic like behavior may be seen. The infant with Rett syndrome often avoids detection until 6 18 months, owing to a relatively normal appearance and some developmental progress. However, closer scrutiny reveals disturbance of the normal spontaneous limb and body movements that are thought to be regulated in the brainstem. The brief period of developmental progress is followed by stagnation and regression of previously acquired skills. During regression, some features are similar to those of autism. Monetary Policies And Monetary Policy Monetary Policies (Introduction) The objective of monetary policy is to reserve the worth of the money by keeping inflation low, stable and predictable that lets Canadians be more confident about the spending and investment choices. It reassures long term investment in Canada s economy as well as contributes to continuous job creation and better the production. It helps improve living standard. Canada s monetary policy outline consists of two key components working together and reinforcing each other: the inflation control target and the flexible exchange rate. The inflation control target directs the decisions of the Bank regarding the proper setting of the policy interest rate that maintains a stable price environment throughout the medium term. Influencing Short Term Interest Rates As to reach the inflation target, the banks have to make changes in the policy rate by raising or lowering it. If inflation is beyond target, the banks will have to increase the policy rate, this inspires institutions to increase interest rates on the loan and mortgages. Discouraging borrowing and spending which enables upward pressure on price. If inflation is under the goal, banks will lower the policy rate which would then encourage financial institutions to lower interest rates on the loans and mortgages. This information shows how much banks are concerned about inflation going higher or lower in terms of the goal. The key policy interest rates are when banks expect to be used in

These two philosophies are that of judicial activism and strict constructionism. These philosophies differ quite a bit from one another, but they both work toward the same main goal. Both philosophies play a part in court cases when it comes to deciding on a final ruling. Judicial activism is a judicial philosophy that states that a court has the right to, and should go beyond what is stated in the Constitution about an issue that is being brought up and look towards broader suggestions of the impending decision on said issue. In this case the Supreme Court determined that Texas law criminalizing, or essentially trying to outlaw abortion was unconstitutional. Strict Constructionism, on the other hand, is a distinct legal philosophy that limits or controls some judicial interpretation. A judge who uses strict constructionism, may reject the use of legislative history when constructing law because whatever a particular legislator may have said while on the floor of congress does not necessarily reflect what was put into law (Stankiewicz) . Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court is probably one of the most we ll know users of strict constructionism. In essence, he believes that the Constitution should only ever be interpreted the way it was written never any different. Scalia also believes that the Constitution should not be susceptible to any form of updating by any court. In 2015 the Supreme Court ruled on a case about same sex marriage, Obergfell v. Hodges. For instance, when s the last time you Googled something, blogged about a current trek, or saw that another amusement had been Facebooked? George Ritzer essentially did likewise with the fast foodeatery McDonald s in his smash hit book, The McDonaldizationof Society. He characterizes McDonaldization as the procedure by which standards of fast food eateries have come to command basically every part of society. McDonald s and other fast food eateries offer a contrasting option to work escalated, home cooked suppers that have been alluring to occupied families since the 1950s. Two of their most engaging qualities are comfort and moderateness. These qualities and comparative standards are winding up progressively vital in all parts of our cutting edge society. The building square of McDonaldization is Max Weber s idea of legitimization, which is the way toward supplanting customary and enthusiastic idea with reason and proficiency. Weber trusted that most social orders all through history were represented by convention and that the most noteworthy pattern in present day humanism is an expanding legitimization of all aspects of our day by day lives. He likewise trusted that defense would proceed until the point when our general public would turn into an iron enclosure, dehumanizing everybody

If a church realizes that it will have to close their doors in the next year because of a lack of funds, this is not the first time that this problem came to light. The time to pray is not when people realize that there is a problem, but before there is a problem. We should not expect God to suddenly answer our prayers at the beckoning of our call, simply because we have a problem that needs to be fixed. God can speak to people in multiple ways, but it is not wise to rely on divine intervention for major decisions of the church. God put people on earth for a reason, because it is not good that man should be alone. If a church is going to close its doors within a year, they probably should have been praying beforehand about the health of the church, and should have been more open to change in the church. Too many churches die because people will let that church die before they change their own stubbornness. In prayer, people must call early, often, and before problems happen so that issues can be fixed before the integrity of the church is

The Relevance Of Translational Research This paper will aim to explain the relevance of translational research and how behavioural concepts such as closed economies, unit price and the matching law can allow us to better understand and predict human choice behaviour that meets social significance. Translational Research A statement made by Jong Wook (2005) sums up very well the problem gap that is between research and practice, that is, to act upon something without having knowledge and understanding is a lost cause and to have knowledge without acting upon it is a waste of resourcefulness. The aim of translational research is to bridge the gap between what we have discovered in basic science and implement them into clinical application to improve human condition. It must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vollmer (2011) described three types of translational research. Hursh (1980) was one of the first to propose that behavioural economics can be useful to the field of behaviour analysis in that it could advance our knowledge of human behaviour. He translated reinforcers into economic terms in which operant concepts can explain these principles (Hursh 1984). According to Reed et al. • 38. The Theory Of Organizational Change Literature Synthesis The idea of change can alarm any system and lead to unexpected reactions from the members associated with the system. As the change begins to be implemented, these uncertainties intensify and can lead to crisis. This phenomenon becomes even more crucial when the system involves an organization with leaders and those members with non managerial responsibilities. When change is being implemented within an organization by its leaders, the consequences of it can be underestimated or ignored by them, resulting in crises and, eventually, failure of the change efforts. In order for change to succeed, specifically in today s business world, where organizations are constantly undergoing change at a fast rate, companies should educate their employees in understanding and supporting change. Taking both organizational and employee perspectives into account, Armenakis and Bedeian (1999) have reviewed major research publications on the theory of organizational change from 1987 to 1999. To set a basis for selecting from the vast number of the available material, their study was concentrated on those researches focusing on the fundamentals of organizational change dynamics. The researchers acknowledge the effect of the extent of their resource selection on the literature review outcome, stating that their choice of subject area will provide a deeper understanding of the existing approaches governing organizational change. Unfortunately, with the serpent s deceitful encouragement, Eve enticed Adam to eat from that banned tree. The fruit opened Adam s eyes to the reality that he was naked (Gen. 3:7 20). A very simple and brief response is helping those in need and providing said persons with resources they could not attain on their own. It s always aspiring to educate one s self on new resources, information and newly developed theories. This is more than a career; this is a decision that makes one question the direction of their moral compass. Philosopher Mortimer Adler states, Moral virtues are like the arts or skills, they are habits formed by repeated acts. Simply put values are a measure of what is paramount and just. When we practice values that are congruent, we develop and put into practice the skills outlined in the foundations of social work. Ethics are the specific standards of values that social workers must follow. They are the likeness of the values in the way they mirror principles.
