Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Utilitarianism
Could one give a justification for making an innocent individual suffer just to preserve the happiness
of the greater good? In the story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula Le Guin, the life
of a young child is ignored and imprisoned in order to make others happy. However, the situation in
Omelas can be approached in one or two ways, including either the deontological view or the
utilitarianism view. The city of Omelas is portrayed to individuals as a welcoming place that is full of
festivals and happiness. However, this is not the case since a young child is forced into imprisonment.
Without the suffrage of the young child who is living in a basement under a beautiful building in
Omelas, where all the doors are locked, has no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Related to the city of Omelas, the ones that believe in utilitarianism would view Omelas as a good
society and see nothing wrong in the actions and results being made. Their belief is in the system that
happiness is the ultimate goal and the actions are not as important as the overall happiness of the
general public. There were no rules set that hindered what the citizens could do to make a majority of
them happy, so imprisoning the child was not a significant issue to them. So rather than making
everyone suffer a little, the child will suffer forever so the rest do not. While it in itself may be
horrible, they view it as a way which increases the utility of the people which makes the actions
morally worthy. Additionally, their perspective is that the people that leave Omelas due to not agreeing
with the situation is good as well. The reason for that is because they are making the overall happiness
level stay the same because the people that are unhappy are leaving the city all together. The
deontological view is better than the utilitarianism view because utilitarianism just worries about the
greater good enjoying happiness, no matter the circumstances that an individual suffers. While
deontology views the incident as that no one should suffer to make everyone happier, and everyone
should be able to enjoy happiness without suffrage. Because if one

The Pros and Cons of Profiling by Law Enforcement Essay
Introduction With the society that most individuals are offered today, the world of crime has been
constantly transforming. This can influence the typical individual to question if there are too many
laws that one should follow, including the penalties that are to be expected. The word crime can
insinuate many thoughts of apprehension, segregation, and security when applying the law in
accordance to criminal acts being prosecuted. In order for penalties to apply to a particular individual,
law enforcement must first be able to track and identify suspects of various crimes. Numerous
approaches can be offered for this process, but profiling is a common tactic that has aided law
enforcement in seeking justice for both suspects and victims. ... Show more content on

Throughout the years, profiling has been successful at seeking out justice by detaining many wanted
criminals, and has set the bar for many years of criminal apprehensions in many communities.
Criminal characteristics are significant in all criminal investigations as much indication can reveal that
the most important part for analysis is to further examine how patterns of criminal involvement
emerges and transforms; this would also include examining the modus operandi (method of operation)
of criminals that are relevant not only for the criminal structures, but for the general public as well
(Ford, 2013). For instance, an individual who acquires many tattoos, dresses in black clothing, and
physically possesses threatening features would suggest to society that this individual would be of
criminal participation, and a menace to civilization. In addition, an individual that has been born and
raised in the ghetto may comprehend a way of successful living is through doing what is necessary to
get by, instead of making a prodigious model for society. This can be comprised of drug dealing,
violent interactions, and utilizing threatening acts to achieve credibility and acceptance in life. When it
comes to the awareness of suspect profiling, most individuals are assumed to be classified based upon
ethnicity, monetary status, ownership, social networking, and residential location (Alison, et al, 2002).
In turn, this may weaken the perception and

The Process of DNA Replication Essay
The Process of DNA Replication
The process of DNA replication plays a crucial role in providing genetic continuity from one
generation to the next. Knowledge of the structure of DNA began with the discovery of nucleic acids
in 1869. In 1952, an accurate model of the DNA molecule was presented, thanks to the work of
Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Francis Crick. To reproduce, a cell must copy and transmit its
genetic information (DNA) to all of its progeny. To do so, DNA replicates following the process of
semi conservative replication. Two strands of DNA are obtained from one, having produced two
daughter molecules that are identical to one another and to the parent molecule. This essay reviews the
three stages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, there are many enzymes that participate in the unwinding of the old strands of DNA
molecule such as topoisomerase. This enzyme is responsible for initiation of the unwinding of the old
strands of DNA molecule. Once supercoiling has been eliminated by the topoisomerase, helicase
accomplishes unwinding of the original double strand. In order to aid with the unwinding process,
DNA gyrase catalyzes the formation of negative supercoils. The unwound helix, with each strand
being synthesized into a new double helix, is called the replication fork.
The second stage of the process is complementary base pairing. In this stage, new complementary
nucleotides are positioned following the rules of complementary base pairing: adenine (A) to thymine
(T) and guanine (G) to cytosine (C). Then, the binding of free nucleotide with complementary bases is
catalyzed by DNA polymerase.
The last stage of the process, joining, involves bonding of complementary nucleotide to each other so
as to form new strands. The nucleotides are joined to one another by hydrogen bonds to form a new
DNA molecule. This joining continues until a new polynucleotide chain has been formed alongside
the old one, forming a new double helix molecule. This stage of the process also takes place with the
assistance of enzymes. The DNA polymerase links the complementary nucleotides

Brazil s Independence Of Brazil
The people of Brazil gained independence from Portugal on September 7, 1822, and became known as
the Federative Republic of Brazil. With European, African, and Indigenous peoples influences, Brazil
has become a melting pot of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. It is made up of 26 states and has a
total population of 205,823,665 people. The two largest ethnic groups are White at 47.7 percent and
mulatto (mixed white and black) at 43.1 percent of the population. Most of the population lives on the
east coast, specifically the cities of Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Rio de Janeiro, and they live under a
federal presidential republic government. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese, but there are
less common languages spoken such as Spanish, English, German, Italian, and other Amerindian
languages. The average age is 31.6 years old, and the gender ratio is relatively equal throughout each
age group. The birth rate is 14.3 births/1,000 population, and the death rate is 6.6 deaths/1,000
population. These statistics produce a population growth rate of 0.75%. Surprisingly, 90% of the
population has some religious association. There are many different religions in Brazil, but the two
largest religious groups are Roman Catholics that make up 64.6% and Protestant that make up 22.2%.
Other religions consist of Judaism, Buddism, and Jehovah Witnesses (cia.gov, 2016).

Vehicle Pollution Essay
1.6 Vehicular Pollution Problems in India
Vehicles are one of the major sources of air pollution in major cities. The air pollution due to vehicles
can be attributed to following:
a) High vehicle density in Indian urban centres result in air pollution build up near the roadways and
at traffic intersections.
b) Older vehicles are predominant in vehicle vintage. These older vehicles are grossly polluting
though in cities like Delhi grossly polluting vehicles have been phased out.
c) Inadequate inspection and maintenance facilities result in high emission of air pollutants from
vehicles. Emission can be reduced by proper and regular inspection and maintenance of vehicles.
d) There is large number of two stroke two wheelers in most of the cities and these two wheelers are a
significant contributor of air pollution.
e) Adulteration of fuel and fuel products also result in high emissions from vehicles.
f) Improper traffic management system and road conditions also result in build up of air pollutants
near the roadways as the emissions are higher when the vehicle is idling.
g) Absence of effective mass rapid transport system and intra city railway networks has resulted in
people using their own vehicles for commuting to workplace. This has resulted in uncontrolled growth
of vehicles.
h) High population exodus to the urban centres has also resulted in increase in number of vehicles
resulting in high levels of vehicular air pollution.

Metro Rail Services At Kochi City
1 Executive Summary
This project discusses the Metro rail services to be build in Kochi city. Rapid urbanization and intense
commercial developments in the recent past have resulted in steep rise in travel demand, putting
Kochi s transport infrastructure to stress. With mega projects such as SMART CITY, INFO PARK ,
FASHION CITY and Vellarpadam Container Terminal , etc. on the anvil, travel demand is expected to
shoot up, strengthening the need for augmenting the transport infrastructure in Kochi region. In the
absence of a mass transport system, there has been a steep increase in the number of personalized
motor vehicles in GCDA area. The number of registered motor vehicles in this area was 68,271 in
1987 and it grown to 4,46,959 in the year 2003. 64% of these vehicles are two wheelers. This large
number of motor vehicles is resulting in rise in air pollution, increased number of road accidents, and
slowing down of average vehicular speeds.
Peak hour traffic demand on Alwaye Petta Corridor has been assessed as 13,681 phpdt for the year
2015 and this is likely to increase 21065 phpdt by the year 2025. Road based public transport,
therefore, can not meet this demand. There is an urgent need to introduce a light Metro system in the
city to provide fast, safe, economic, and environment friendly mode for mass movement of
passengers. Carrying capacity of Light Metro System is upto 25,000 phpdt, which will be adequate to
take care of the traffic problems for Greater Cochin

Procrastination Research Paper
The procrastinator. The prioritizer. The slacker. Which type of studier are you? I believe that I am all
three. Procrastination is basically waiting until the last minute to do something. Prioritizing is to
arrange or deal with things in the order of importance. Last but not least, slacking is lacking in
diligence, care, or concern. Out of all three words, prioritizing sounds the best. Many kids at school
like to procrastinate, mostly with tests, I am one of them. This is why we need to form more study
habits that will help us excel as we enter higher grade levels. Have you ever thought of why you

The number twenty four says to study all day, every day. Lastly, seven means to study on all the seven
days of the week. Students test scores have augmented, when doing this process. You never know,
studying ten minutes a day may allow your test score to go from a sixty to a ninety. Study habits not
only involve you studying by yourself, but you should ask your classmates or teachers for help. If you
do not discern the lesson that was taught, pull your teacher off to the side and respectfully ask them
for help. Hang around people that do not know the same thing as you, therefore you can help each
other out. Helping friends study is always a benign act. Prioritizing is always the best route to go. If
you prioritize, you most likely will be less stressed when studying for a test. As we enter high school,
there are going to be multiple assignments and tests on the same day, but if you prioritize you can
execute your task very well. To exemplify for you, imagine next week we will have three tests on
different days. Also, that your teacher has told you two weeks before the test. Most of us would
probably wait until the last minute to study. After getting the results, you have only passed one test.
Wouldn t it have been better for you to prioritize, so you could have a better outcome? As my saying

The Importance Of Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are global initiatives in which countries all over the world are
entitled towards achieving. Out of the 17 SDGs, Sustainable goal number 5 takes about the
achievement of gender equality (Kumar Vivekadhish, 2016). Gender issues have always been
experienced ever since the beginning of man. Women do not have the same rights and opportunities as
men in society and this why this goal number 5 was developed. Egypt, a North African country, has
yet to fully attain this SDG. The following study will discuss some of the challenges in which Egypt
as a nation is facing towards the achievement of this goal. The paper will also outline some solutions
in which Egypt has adapted and solutions that can be used to achieve this goal. Gender should be
perceived on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals.
Challenges
1. There are several challenges in which Egypt as a country is facing concerning the implementation
of this sustainable development goal. Most of these challenges are highly related to the culture.
Egyptians still follow the ancient Egypt lifestyle. The first major challenge presents itself as a result of
lack of education. Most women and girls in Egypt are denied the right to education. They have a low
literacy: 65% literacy for women vs 82% of males (Gender Equality and Women s Empowerment |
Egypt, n.d). Access to education among girls has been restricted thus making it difficult for the girl to
understand the importance of it

Cindy Sherman No 21 Analysis
I chose Cindy Sherman s Untitled Film Still #21, which is a gelatin silver print produced in 1978.
Sherman produced 69 images in the series, from 1977 to 1980. Though all of the images are of
Sherman, they are not self portraits. Sherman posed for these photos as a sort of an actress or heroine.
Portraying various clichés about women in post war America. In #21 you can see that she is dressed
up in a feminine business like dress as if she were going to or from an audition or interview. There is
much absent in the photograph, such as the rest of her body or her surrounding environment. The
background only reveals that she is in a large city. This ambiguity creates a universal theme, that this
could be any woman in any city at any given time.

The Importance Of Effective Education
Recently, an research article caught my attention in how teachers in promoting inclusive education for
children experience disability and with additional educational needs. In the article, the child diagnosed
with Down Syndrome participates in the classroom experiences with the other children in the
mainstream school, but with supports and adaptations as needed. The teacher creates the opportunity
for the child to share his knowledge with the other children and support their learning, while also
catering his individual needs in supporting him in communication and social skills. The article
illustrates the key elements of inclusion practices in practice. What inclusion actually means for us as
early childhood educators? The following essay is designed to examine those contributing factors
involved in the inclusive education.
Inclusion is strongly supported by international, national, and state policy, legislation. The right to an
inclusive education is addressed in both the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention
on the Rights of Persons with a Disability. Additionally, the Australian Government expresses its
commitment to inclusive education in an array of documents and policies, including the National
Disability Strategy, the Australian Curriculum, the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the
National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia . (Kathy, 2013).
Each of these documents, recognizes and acknowledged the

To Kill A Mockingbird Racial Injustice Essay
In today s society, injustice through racism has become a controversial topic. Many groups of people,
specifically minorities, feel they are treated unfairly because of their race. Many people around the
world agree, but others think it is just a made up issue. There have been many incidents where certain
individuals from these groups have been innocent yet oppressed in some way; others have been
harmful and treated the same way. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee, does an
excellent job highlighting the racism and unfair treatment of African Americans throughout the book.

Tom had many of the characteristics of a mockingbird; he never harmed anyone and only provided
goodness. In the book, Scout makes her first impression of Tom, He seemed to be a respectable Negro,

something that was very contrasting to Tom s kind, respectful personality. Tom provided goodness
whenever he helped Mayella for no reward. He pitied her and helped her from the goodness of his

Killing Tom was comparable to killing a mockingbird. Tom s innocence was recognized by many
people in the town, like Mr. Underwood, He likened Tom s death to the senseless slaughter of

Casework In A Congressional Office
The United States Congress is the supreme lawmaking body in the United States and one of the
national legislatures in the world. Congress continues to be one of the few national assemblies that
research and drafts their own lawmaking rather than simply voting on bills created by the government

power and influence. A Caucus System is a meeting of many party members in any part of society or

Casework in a congressional office refers to the response or services that Members of Congress
provide to constituents who request assistance ( Caseworking ). Examples of caseworking can be
some of the following: female genital mutilation, political asylum, and international adoptions. The
World Health Organization has condemned female genital mutilation. Only a few people pass on from
any blood loss or infection. Whoever survives, suffers higher maternal and infant humanity in
childbirth. Political asylum is decided by immigration judges to people who can set up a logical fear
of discrimination if returned to their nation of origin. The asylum will not be established if the
applicant is found to have mistreated others. However, international adoptions are sternly regulated to
stay away from trafficking in children and force on birth mothers in poverty stricken countries to give
up their children. Casework takes a lot of time and energy. Since Congress does not have all the time

The Importance Of The Japanese Education System
Japan may be known for its beautiful cherry blossoms when they are in bloom, but they are also
known for its unique education system. The rigorous workload these students go through have
changed the way their overall performance scores have looked. The way that the Japanese education
system works has some ways that align with how the brain learns. The uniqueness of Japan s
education begins with the way their schooling is set up. The typical school year goes from April to
March of the following year, with a summer break from mid July to the end of August. Unlike
American schools, Japanese schools have three trimesters to break up the school year. Keeping with
the pattern of three, the lower education of Japan is split into a six three three system: six years of
elementary school (Shogakko), three years of middle school (Chugakko), and three years of high
school (Kotogakko). There are different learning styles that are available once a student reaches high
school. The courses that students can take are sorted into the categories of general, specialized, and
integrated. General courses are suitable for all students. Specialized courses have specific subject
matter suited for students who have chosen their future vocation, and include courses in agriculture,
industry, commerce. . . music, art, and English (globalroadwarrior 3). The integrated courses are a mix
of both general and specialized. The majority of Japanese students are taught by one teacher for all the

Compare The Poem I Wandered As Lonely As A Cloud By...
The inspiration for both William Wordsworth s poem I wandered as lonely as a cloud and Dorothy s
journal entry comes from a walk they took in the Lake District along the Gowbarrow park. The
daffodils alongside the riverbank struck both enough to write about them. Though daffodils serve as
the focal point for both writings, Dorothy records the sight in front of her whereas William offers a
more mystical and spiritual perception of the experience. The first hint that William s poem is more
mystical than Dorothy s journal is in the number of daffodils and the perfection within them. Dorothy
writes only a few flowers were seen close to the water before walking along the lake to see more of
them. This naturalistic observation of how daffodils are dispersed in the wild. She also writes about
the imperfectness of their structure There was here and there a little knot, and a few stragglers a few
yards higher up . In William s poem, the daffodils emerge all at once When all at once I saw a crowd,
/A host, of golden daffodils; . He further emphasizes the point by saying the daffodils are endless and
continuous, stretching in a never ending line. This hyperbole and the difference in the imagery
suggests that the daffodils are mystical and unearthly in the poem and a natural experience in the
journal. William also describes the color of the daffodils as golden instead of the more common
yellow, focusing on their majesties and grandeur. The contrast in the mood shift of both

Effects Of Plastic Pollution
Thousands of plastic factories are producing tons of plastic goods which are popularly used by the
people because of their ease, cheapness and convenience. Due to non biodegradable nature they cause
hazardous negative impact on the environment. Disposal of plastic waste which are major cause of
environment pollution becomes carcinogenic to human, birth defects, impaired immunity, endocrine
disruption, development and reproductive effect. In addition to dumping of plastic material into
marine, a large number of species are known to be harmed or killed which could jeopardize their
survival, especially since many are already endangered by other forms of anthropogenic activities.

With sea turtles, they can mistake a plastic bag for a jellyfish and try to consume it and will lead to a
blockade in the gut and to internal death. When seabirds ingest plastic, it reduces the storage volume
of the stomach and make them eat less, which will result in starvation. Another major biotic factor in
marine life that is getting affected by plastic pollution is Zooplankton. Zooplankton are heterotrophic
planktons that are consumed by marine organisms. Since Zooplanktons are starting to contain toxins
from plastic, they will affect the other organisms who consume them in the food chain and in which
will also affect the humans who eats marine organisms. Not only does plastic cause damage to the
ocean, but it can also damage groundwater sources. Many regions are already facing issues with, but
water sources everywhere are in danger because of plastic pollution. Plastic toxins in dumps and from
litter can seep into the groundwater, which people drink every day. Coats 1
Due to the use of chemical additives during plastic production, plastics have potentially harmful
effects that could prove to be carcinogenic or promote endocrine disruption.

Sectional Tensions
G11 Elvis Park
AP US History

Although now one nation as United States of America, in the past, the nation was divided into
sections: the North and the South. The nation had to go through tragic Civil War to be united and
become successful and grow as one unity. Behind the Civil War there was a gradual increase of
sectional tensions between the North and the South mainly due tothe western expansion.Utilization of
slavery became the main conflict between the North and the South. This essay will focus briefly on
the background of western expansion and how it had contributed to the growing sectionalism. In 1803,
President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government also
known as the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi River to the
Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans, and it doubled the size of the United States.
Jefferson thought westward expansion was the key to the nation s health. In order to provide enough
land to the yeoman (farmers), the United States had to continue to expand. Jefferson believed that
western expansion would fill up the empty lands with immigrants and provide enough lands for the
farmers, so he decided to support the western expansion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hadji Murad Symbolism
In Hadji Murad, Leo Tolstoy employs symbolism to great effect, especially when it comes to the
parallels between a Tartar thistle and the title character, Hadji Murad. The narrator describes the Tartar
thistle he finds growing in a ditch at the beginning and the end of story, and the thistle becomes a
significant symbol in two ways. The first is that it represents the life of Murad. The second is that the
thistle mirrors the death of Murad. The thistle s ability to represent both the life and death Murad
makes it a vital usage of symbolism in telling the story of Murad. One reason the Tartar thistle is
important to Hadji Murad is that it represents Murad s life. Readers are able to establish this through
several different references. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen when the narrator has difficulty trying to pick the thistle from the ditch, describing
his experience as, Not only did the stalk prick on every side even through the handkerchief I wrapped
round my hand but it was so tough that I had to struggle with it for nearly five minutes, breaking the
fibres one by one; and when I had at last plucked it, the stalk was all frayed, and the flower itself no
longer seemed so fresh and beautiful (Tolstoy 20). The narrator s struggle to take the thistle represents
the battle by the Russians to capture Murad after he escapes to help his family. Throughout the fight
Murad was shot multiple times, but he continued to fight and take down the Russians, much like the
thistle losing its fibres as it continues to prick the narrator s hand. Finally Murad is felled by the
Russians who hack at his body and finally decapitate him. Murad, like the thistle is no longer fresh
and beautiful (Tolstoy 273 289). Another indication that the thistle represents Murad s death is its
color, which is crimson (Tolstoy 20). The color is seen again when Murad is beheaded and the blood
pouring from him is also described as crimson (289). Then there is the narrator s line, I felt sorry to
have vainly destroyed a flower that looked beautiful in its proper place, and I threw it away (Tolstoy
20). This attitude is reflected when Mary Dmítrievna expresses her

Economic And Monetary Union Of The European Union
Introduction: Since the enlightenment, Europeans have called for a stable and united Europe. Even
though there have been many setbacks to a united Europe, including WWI, WWII, and the Cold War,
the realization of a united Europe became a reality with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992
creating the European Union (EU). Furthermore, the progression towards a fully united Europe took
another step with the introduction of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union
(EMU), which introduced a common currency, the euro (Bordo). Both of these institutions have had
an immensely positive impact on Europe, both socially and economically. Today, the European Union

This change, that would overcome the inherent economic flaws of the EU and EMU, is the adoption of
a European Fiscal Union (EFU). The implementation of the EFU will prevent the issues that are
occurring today in Europe, and ensure economic stability; thus, it will save Europe from failing.
The Flaws of the European Monetary Union and European Union: Even with the limitations inherent
to the EMU and EU, they have provided great economic gains. Since the establishment of the EMU
and EU, trade costs have decreased between member nations, and have given Europe the ability to
compete economically with the United States, China, and other global economic superpowers
(Feldstein). However, there are four major problems that the EMU and EU cannot currently address:
(1) irresponsible government expenditure, (2) stabilizing economic shocks, (3) coordinating economic
policy between nations, and (4) addressing debt crises.
[1] Irresponsible Government Expenditure: A major issue faced by the nations in the EMU and EU is
irresponsible government expenditure. This issue grew rapidly due to the low interest rates offered to
members of the EMU after its creation. At the time, creditors believed that nations involved would
either be protected from default by member nations, or become more fiscally responsible as a result of
becoming a member (Feldstein). However, this did not stop countries like

i. In most cases, the more educated a country is, the more developed the country is. The concept is
easier to understand on a smaller scale. Imagine two people, Person A and Person B. Both Person A
and B are extremely intelligent and hardworking; the difference between them is their opportunities.
They both have access to primary school, and do very well. Person A goes on to graduate from a
secondary education, but Person B cannot because he does not have access to it. Person B gets an
unspecialized job, where he cannot utilize his brainpower. His potential is wasted. After graduating
from his secondary education, Person A goes for a tertiary education, where he gets a degree in

Slavery prevented African Americans from reaching their full potential. Just like women in India,
African American s potential contribution to development was untouched. Unfortunately, racial
inequality between African Americans and Caucasians in America went further than the abolishment

isolated from opportunity. Fortunately, places are no longer segregated. Unfortunately, though, this
does not make up for everything. As a whole, the African American population is not as developed. In
fact, a significant majority of people living in ghettos are African American. This is because they had a

Basis Of Apologetics
Right from the time of the apostles and throughout the history of the Christian Church, believers have
been engaged in the defence of the Christian faith. This defence is often referred to a an apology (not
to be confused with the typical English meaning of a request for forgiveness). This give rise to a
branch of study in the Church called Apologetics. This lesson explores the theological basis for
apologetics and its relevance for propagation of the Christian faith. This will be done through an
exploration of the meaning of apologetics and the method of doing apologetics. A. THE MEANING
OF APOLOGETICS This section will begin with a word study to understand the meaning of the word
apologetics . Further, the biblical usage of this term in the New Testament will be the basis for
understanding the meaning and concept of apologetics. 1. Definition of Apologetics The word
apologetics is derived from the Greek word apologian, meaning defense. The standard Greek lexicon,
BAG, gives the meanings defense, reply, or excuse (Bauer 2000:96). Its use in the New Testament is
frequent. These biblical uses of apologia and its derivatives show that this word means defence
(McGrath 1998:5). Apologetics is generally used to refer to the defence of the faith. Many of these

The teleological theory therefore holds that the rightness of an action is determined solely by its
consequences. The most common example of the teleological theory is Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism
(John Stuart Mills) the end justifies the means (Boatright, 2009)
Boatright explains that an action is right if, and only if it produces the greatest balance of pleasure
over pain for everyone. One Utilitarian thesis, the Maximalist, states that a right action is one that has
not merely some good consequences but the greatest amount of good consequences. Simply put, the
end justifies the means. Based on these definitions, we are convinced that Acme Title Pawn operated
in a highly utilitarian manner.
What justifies this decision?
Acme helped a great number of persons in dire financial need
These persons were desperate and had no alternative means of obtaining a loan
These persons had no or poor credit history
They had emergencies and could not afford to wait on the bureaucratic red tapes of the traditional

Loan quantities were too low to be issued by the traditional banking institutions even if the applicant

Operation Market Garden Battle Analysis
Battle Analysis: Lesson learned Operation Market Garden was the biggest airborne operation in
history. It was a real attempt to use airborne in a strategic role in Europe. Operation Market Garden
was unsuccessful Allied offensive that launched on 17 September 1944. The execution of the
operation consisted of two sub operations. An airborne forces operation, code named Market, was to

forces. A ground forces operation, code named Garden, was to link up with airborne forces at the north
of Arnhem. British General Bernard Montgomery was the brain behind Operation Market Garden. He

the largest airborne operation up to that date. It consisted of 1,545 troop carriers, 478 gliders, 3,500
glider men and 16,500 paratroopers (Fox, 1994, p.1). the initial phase of airborne forces operation was
a success, however British paratroopers failed to secure the key bridge of Arnhem. The ground forces
that were supposed to link up with airborne forces, faced fierce attacks by 88mm guns and

The Anxiety Of Incest In The Nineteenth Century
Hatib Kadir
Connoly defines Incest as a marriage with their near consanguinity. Incest was widely practiced up to
the nineteenth century. He explores the anxiety of Incest from two perspectives, phonology and
physiology approach. But I got an impression that his presentation was more exploring on the latter
one. One of the anxieties that came from the incest was about genetic disease. The arrival of new
asylum, such as prison and hospital, and the professionalization medical and science became the key
roles in prohibiting the incest. The anxiety toward incest was more because of the physiological
reasons, rather than the abstract philosophical theories. The bad effect of incest is observable. In the
domain of the progressive science, scientists proved the detrimental effects of incest. On the other
hand, people also believe that Incest will exaggerate the bad side and the peculiarity of the family for
their next generation. People not only afraid of infectious disease but also hereditary disease. The end
of the 19th century was also a moment where people started to think that reproduction was also an
issue. Thus, by prohibiting incest, people believed that they could reproduce a wealth family. ... Show

I really enjoyed the book A Week I the Woods by Andrew Clements. When a rich 5th grader, Mark

is very rude towards Mr. Maxwell they end up becoming friends in the end of the book. My first quote
shows that in the begging of the story Mr. Maxwell does not like Mark. The quote is But after 22 years
in the classroom, Mr. Maxwell could spot a slacker a mile away. And by Wednesday afternoon at the
end of his third class with mark he reached his decision: This new boy was a slacker (Clements 22). In
this quote it shows how Mr. Maxwell judges Mark and immediately dislikes him because of his
attitude. It only took Three days before Mr. Maxwell decides that he dislikes Mark. This relates to the

productivity grew by 38% over the same time period.
Another concept that is brought up by the article is international trade and business. There are a
number of gains to be obtained from international trade, such as lower prices, greater choice, and a
variety of resources. Many of the millions of laid off workers in recent years ended up shifting into
lower salaried service jobs, while U.S. manufacturers relocated production facilities to low cost
countries. The U.S has established great economic trade connections with the rest of the world, and
that has lead to U.S. based plants shifting work over to foreign competitors, such as China, so that
they can have cheap labor. It is much cheaper to have workers overseas however there is the danger of
unemployment. The United States needs to protect the economy from imports, so sometimes a tariff is
applied. A tariff is a tax that is charged on imported goods.

Analysis Of Alexander Solzhenitsyn s One Day In The Life...
To Know One Man is to Know a Nation Abstract: Both Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Leonard Peltier
allow the reader to see life through the eyes of one man, and through that one man, a vision of a nation
of suffering people emerges. Despite using very different styles and genres, both One Day in the Life
of Ivan Denisovich and Prison Writings: My Life is my Sundance show the reader deep truths about a
people through the lens of one imprisoned man. To Know One Man is to Know a Nation Leonard
Peltier is a man who has been immensely wronged by law enforcement, the government, and many
white men in his life, if you believe that his work of non fiction, Prison Writing: My Life is My
Sundance, is the whole truth and nothing but the truth behind why he is in prison. When the reader
sees the injustice he has suffered over and over again, they can t help but feel infuriated for not only
him, but for his people as a whole: the indigenous population of North America, nay, the whole world.
By reading the story of one man s journey through this life, the reader begins to understand the way an
entire people group has suffered throughout history merely for being who they are, and you begin to
ingest the way indigenous people are continually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Ivan goes about his day, the reader becomes aware of the long term suffering of a people group
beneath the reign of Joseph Stalin. It s impossible to miss that the story of the individual suffering of
one man is really the story of the imprisonment and punishment of an entire generation of a people
group because of what they believe in. If anyone dissented against the government, they were jailed
and set to work, often until their death. In a way, it s the easier read of the two because it reflects a
moment in time that has passed instead of an ongoing

Lady Macbeth s Mental Illness
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth s behaviour is seen as unsettling and
manic since she is introduced in Act I, but what if her behaviour indicates signs of real mental
illnesses? Often mental illnesses are overlooked and seen as someone who is just being psycho or
dramatic, but, they are real illnesses that cause suffering in people and have treatments. In Lady
Macbeth s time period in the eleventh century however, science was not advanced enough in the field
of psychology to have treatments available, therefore, like Lady Macbeth, people who lived with
illness before advancement in psychology were often shunned upon, ignored or were left to suffer with
their illness in silence throughout their whole lives. Though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also known as manic depression, Bipolar disorder is characterised by episodes of mania followed by
episodes of depression. Kay Redfield Jamison [a psychologist who had bipolar disorder] did impulsive
things that felt good at the time but had painful consequences like going on lavish shopping sprees,
engaging in promiscuous behaviour, racking up credit card debt, and emptying her bank accounts. In
similarity, Lady Macbeth has manic behaviour when she hears from a letter from Macbeth that the
witches said he was going to become king; As soon as Lady Macbeth hears this news, manically, Lady
Macbeth plans the murder Duncan to ensure Macbeth s place as king. For Lady Macbeth, it felt good
at the time of planning Duncan s murder, but planning a murder so her husband can become king is
just as irrational as Jamison emptying her bank accounts. Accordingly, ...these episodes [of mania]
were followed by emotional crashes: Crippling bouts of depression that sent her into a suicidal spiral.
At the age of 28, Jamison tried to kill herself by taking an overdose of Lithium, lapsed into a coma,
but thankfully emerged from it determined to find help through medication and therapy. Similarly,
Lady Macbeth s assertive and confident personality changes to a weak and depressive personality as
near the end of the play. Similar to Jamison, in the end of the play, Lady Macbeth dies by presumably

Droid Research Papers
My droid comes out of its charging station and scans my face pattern to identify the correct cereal I
will need to start my day. My sneakers, hoody, and the right color hue of my blue jeans were chosen to
match my biorhythms, my class schedule and today s weather forecast. As a nerdy scientific dreamer,
hoping to some day own a droid like C3 PO or R2 D2 to assist in the lives of millions in every
imaginable form is now reality.
Because of my programming background I am able to understand that without the proper
programming my droid, computer, or smartphone are no better than a pebble skimming in the river.
But then there are those who do not have the slightest interest understand programming. They are the
ones trapped in this illusion of having a mechanical robot magically become human like and live with
them for the rest of there lives, these are the people I worry about. ... Show more content on

Plentifu Mark Twain s The War-Prayer
Realism and naturalism are both basic yet cynical views of life and humanity that arose during the
trials and turmoil of the 19th century. Both views stripped away the layers of romanticism to present a
natural or real viewpoint of the work. These forms of writing refuse to idealize or praise the subject
while also avoiding artificial, fantasy, or mystical elements. In American literature, the term realism
refers to writings that depict the realistic, everyday life of an average, middle class individual. It
portrays concrete reality closely and more emphasis is placed on the character and his purpose rather
than the plot and action. Word choice and diction used by realists are common vernacular and the
events that take place are plausible. The characters and plots are often based around factual events and
people, and it aims to show a truthful representation of reality. Realism began around the start of the
Civil War and lasted until the turn of the century a time of exponential growth for the United States.
With this growth came increasing rates of literacy which provided a ... Show more content on

Twain impeccably employs realism in a way that powerfully and effectively expresses his objective
message. He opens this story in the setting of a Sunday morning church congregation celebrating the
war and praying for safety, strength, courage, and well being of the soldiers as they go into battle. The
preacher prays blessings over the arms and that in the spirit of love God grant the victory. Throughout
this story, Twain illustrates realism not only through the language and dialect he portrays, but also the
representations of the characters. The reader can easily visualize being in the congregation due to the
realistic pride being portrayed by the American people and the common speech used during the prayer
dialect that any individual would hear while in a church

The Shimna River Essay
The Shimna River As part of our A level Geography course I have decided to study the Shimna River
as my case study. I picked this case study because I thought it would be both interesting and
challenging as well as the fact it was on our doorstep. Before we could do anything we had to plan our
investigation.
Through my fieldwork I must obtain a table of results. For such data I must display it in a clear and
straightforward manner so I can analyse and interpret the results using statistical analysis such as
averages, spearman s rank, nearest neighbour, chi square and location quotient.

We took many safety precautions including going up the mountain when water levels weren t
dangerously high, choosing a calm day avoiding hazardous weather. We made sure that we all stayed
together and set up lines of communication. It was essential that we wore warm comfortable clothing
with a first aid kit always at hand.
Aims
When we set out at the start we had several aims to consider.
1) Does the river discharge increase the further from the source?
2) Is there a relationship between river width and stream velocity?
3) As the wetted perimeter increases, river velocity decreases.
4) The further from the source the stones deposited become smaller, smoother and more rounded.
5) Does river temperature readings increase the further from the source?
Data Collection
At each of our seventeen stops we recorded readings for river width, average depth, cross sectional
area, wetted perimeter, river discharge, types of stones and water temperature.
We systematically obtained our samples by measuring every ten meters at each of our four locations.
In my analysis of the River Shimna I selected three areas within the river study. They were the

Parenthood Can Bring Stress On The Job Of Raising Children
Parenthood can bring stress to the job of raising children, but being a single mother is one of the most
difficult things a woman can be. In today s society, being a single mother is getting to become more
common in the United States. Most of the time it is due to teenagers having unprotected sex at a
young age or if you are an older single mother, it could be because of death, divorce, etc. It can be
challenging being a single mother because you re doing what was designed to be a two person job. I
know this from experience because my mom is a single mother who raised four children. Most likely
single mothers have to get two jobs just to support herself and her children especially if they do not
have a high school or college degree. In addition, single mothers have less alone time because they
have to be with their children at all times. Also being a single mother leads to being overloaded with
too many tasks which leads to feeling overwhelmed. I think single mothers are the most multi tasked
people in the world. It is difficult for a single mother to have one minimum wage job and raise a kid
because that one job will not be able to pay all the bills and put food on the table, so single mothers
have to get two jobs just to make ends meet. I remember seeing my mom getting ready for her first job
at four in the morning. I can tell that it took a toll on her body because she would have bags under her
eyes from not getting a complete eight hours of sleep. Sometimes she would

  • 2. Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Utilitarianism Could one give a justification for making an innocent individual suffer just to preserve the happiness of the greater good? In the story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula Le Guin, the life of a young child is ignored and imprisoned in order to make others happy. However, the situation in Omelas can be approached in one or two ways, including either the deontological view or the utilitarianism view. The city of Omelas is portrayed to individuals as a welcoming place that is full of festivals and happiness. However, this is not the case since a young child is forced into imprisonment. Without the suffrage of the young child who is living in a basement under a beautiful building in Omelas, where all the doors are locked, has no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Related to the city of Omelas, the ones that believe in utilitarianism would view Omelas as a good society and see nothing wrong in the actions and results being made. Their belief is in the system that happiness is the ultimate goal and the actions are not as important as the overall happiness of the general public. There were no rules set that hindered what the citizens could do to make a majority of them happy, so imprisoning the child was not a significant issue to them. So rather than making everyone suffer a little, the child will suffer forever so the rest do not. While it in itself may be horrible, they view it as a way which increases the utility of the people which makes the actions morally worthy. Additionally, their perspective is that the people that leave Omelas due to not agreeing with the situation is good as well. The reason for that is because they are making the overall happiness level stay the same because the people that are unhappy are leaving the city all together. The deontological view is better than the utilitarianism view because utilitarianism just worries about the greater good enjoying happiness, no matter the circumstances that an individual suffers. While deontology views the incident as that no one should suffer to make everyone happier, and everyone should be able to enjoy happiness without suffrage. Because if one ... This can influence the typical individual to question if there are too many laws that one should follow, including the penalties that are to be expected. The word crime can insinuate many thoughts of apprehension, segregation, and security when applying the law in accordance to criminal acts being prosecuted. In order for penalties to apply to a particular individual, law enforcement must first be able to track and identify suspects of various crimes. Numerous approaches can be offered for this process, but profiling is a common tactic that has aided law enforcement in seeking justice for both suspects and victims. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the years, profiling has been successful at seeking out justice by detaining many wanted criminals, and has set the bar for many years of criminal apprehensions in many communities. Criminal characteristics are significant in all criminal investigations as much indication can reveal that the most important part for analysis is to further examine how patterns of criminal involvement emerges and transforms; this would also include examining the modus operandi (method of operation) of criminals that are relevant not only for the criminal structures, but for the general public as well (Ford, 2013). For instance, an individual who acquires many tattoos, dresses in black clothing, and physically possesses threatening features would suggest to society that this individual would be of criminal participation, and a menace to civilization. In addition, an individual that has been born and raised in the ghetto may comprehend a way of successful living is through doing what is necessary to get by, instead of making a prodigious model for society. This can be comprised of drug dealing, violent interactions, and utilizing threatening acts to achieve credibility and acceptance in life. When it comes to the awareness of suspect profiling, most individuals are assumed to be classified based upon ethnicity, monetary status, ownership, social networking, and residential location (Alison, et al, 2002). In turn, this may weaken the perception and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Process of DNA Replication Essay The Process of DNA Replication The process of DNA replication plays a crucial role in providing genetic continuity from one generation to the next. Knowledge of the structure of DNA began with the discovery of nucleic acids in 1869. In 1952, an accurate model of the DNA molecule was presented, thanks to the work of Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Francis Crick. To reproduce, a cell must copy and transmit its genetic information (DNA) to all of its progeny. To do so, DNA replicates following the process of semi conservative replication. Two strands of DNA are obtained from one, having produced two daughter molecules that are identical to one another and to the parent molecule. This essay reviews the three stages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, there are many enzymes that participate in the unwinding of the old strands of DNA molecule such as topoisomerase. This enzyme is responsible for initiation of the unwinding of the old strands of DNA molecule. Once supercoiling has been eliminated by the topoisomerase, helicase accomplishes unwinding of the original double strand. In order to aid with the unwinding process, DNA gyrase catalyzes the formation of negative supercoils. The unwound helix, with each strand being synthesized into a new double helix, is called the replication fork. The second stage of the process is complementary base pairing. In this stage, new complementary nucleotides are positioned following the rules of complementary base pairing: adenine (A) to thymine (T) and guanine (G) to cytosine (C). Then, the binding of free nucleotide with complementary bases is catalyzed by DNA polymerase. The last stage of the process, joining, involves bonding of complementary nucleotide to each other so as to form new strands. The nucleotides are joined to one another by hydrogen bonds to form a new DNA molecule. This joining continues until a new polynucleotide chain has been formed alongside the old one, forming a new double helix molecule. This stage of the process also takes place with the assistance of enzymes. The DNA polymerase links the complementary nucleotides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The air pollution due to vehicles can be attributed to following: a) High vehicle density in Indian urban centres result in air pollution build up near the roadways and at traffic intersections. b) Older vehicles are predominant in vehicle vintage. These older vehicles are grossly polluting though in cities like Delhi grossly polluting vehicles have been phased out. c) Inadequate inspection and maintenance facilities result in high emission of air pollutants from vehicles. Emission can be reduced by proper and regular inspection and maintenance of vehicles. d) There is large number of two stroke two wheelers in most of the cities and these two wheelers are a significant contributor of air pollution. e) Adulteration of fuel and fuel products also result in high emissions from vehicles. f) Improper traffic management system and road conditions also result in build up of air pollutants near the roadways as the emissions are higher when the vehicle is idling. g) Absence of effective mass rapid transport system and intra city railway networks has resulted in people using their own vehicles for commuting to workplace. • 9. Metro Rail Services At Kochi City 1 Executive Summary This project discusses the Metro rail services to be build in Kochi city. Rapid urbanization and intense commercial developments in the recent past have resulted in steep rise in travel demand, putting Kochi s transport infrastructure to stress. With mega projects such as SMART CITY, INFO PARK , FASHION CITY and Vellarpadam Container Terminal , etc. on the anvil, travel demand is expected to shoot up, strengthening the need for augmenting the transport infrastructure in Kochi region. In the absence of a mass transport system, there has been a steep increase in the number of personalized motor vehicles in GCDA area. The number of registered motor vehicles in this area was 68,271 in 1987 and it grown to 4,46,959 in the year 2003. 64% of these vehicles are two wheelers. This large number of motor vehicles is resulting in rise in air pollution, increased number of road accidents, and slowing down of average vehicular speeds. Peak hour traffic demand on Alwaye Petta Corridor has been assessed as 13,681 phpdt for the year 2015 and this is likely to increase 21065 phpdt by the year 2025. Road based public transport, therefore, can not meet this demand. There is an urgent need to introduce a light Metro system in the city to provide fast, safe, economic, and environment friendly mode for mass movement of passengers. Out of the 17 SDGs, Sustainable goal number 5 takes about the achievement of gender equality (Kumar Vivekadhish, 2016). Gender issues have always been experienced ever since the beginning of man. Women do not have the same rights and opportunities as men in society and this why this goal number 5 was developed. Egypt, a North African country, has yet to fully attain this SDG. The following study will discuss some of the challenges in which Egypt as a nation is facing towards the achievement of this goal. The paper will also outline some solutions in which Egypt has adapted and solutions that can be used to achieve this goal. Gender should be perceived on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals. Challenges 1. There are several challenges in which Egypt as a country is facing concerning the implementation of this sustainable development goal. Most of these challenges are highly related to the culture. Egyptians still follow the ancient Egypt lifestyle. The first major challenge presents itself as a result of lack of education. Most women and girls in Egypt are denied the right to education. They have a low literacy: 65% literacy for women vs 82% of males (Gender Equality and Women s Empowerment | Egypt, n.d). In the article, the child diagnosed with Down Syndrome participates in the classroom experiences with the other children in the mainstream school, but with supports and adaptations as needed. The teacher creates the opportunity for the child to share his knowledge with the other children and support their learning, while also catering his individual needs in supporting him in communication and social skills. The article illustrates the key elements of inclusion practices in practice. What inclusion actually means for us as early childhood educators? The following essay is designed to examine those contributing factors involved in the inclusive education. Inclusion is strongly supported by international, national, and state policy, legislation. The right to an inclusive education is addressed in both the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with a Disability. Additionally, the Australian Government expresses its commitment to inclusive education in an array of documents and policies, including the National Disability Strategy, the Australian Curriculum, the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia . • 28. Compare The Poem I Wandered As Lonely As A Cloud By... The inspiration for both William Wordsworth s poem I wandered as lonely as a cloud and Dorothy s journal entry comes from a walk they took in the Lake District along the Gowbarrow park. The daffodils alongside the riverbank struck both enough to write about them. Though daffodils serve as the focal point for both writings, Dorothy records the sight in front of her whereas William offers a more mystical and spiritual perception of the experience. The first hint that William s poem is more mystical than Dorothy s journal is in the number of daffodils and the perfection within them. Dorothy writes only a few flowers were seen close to the water before walking along the lake to see more of them. This naturalistic observation of how daffodils are dispersed in the wild. She also writes about the imperfectness of their structure There was here and there a little knot, and a few stragglers a few yards higher up . In William s poem, the daffodils emerge all at once When all at once I saw a crowd, /A host, of golden daffodils; . He further emphasizes the point by saying the daffodils are endless and continuous, stretching in a never ending line. This hyperbole and the difference in the imagery suggests that the daffodils are mystical and unearthly in the poem and a natural experience in the journal. William also describes the color of the daffodils as golden instead of the more common yellow, focusing on their majesties and grandeur. The contrast in the mood shift of both ... Behind the Civil War there was a gradual increase of sectional tensions between the North and the South mainly due tothe western expansion.Utilization of slavery became the main conflict between the North and the South. This essay will focus briefly on the background of western expansion and how it had contributed to the growing sectionalism. In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government also known as the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans, and it doubled the size of the United States. Jefferson thought westward expansion was the key to the nation s health. In order to provide enough land to the yeoman (farmers), the United States had to continue to expand. The narrator describes the Tartar thistle he finds growing in a ditch at the beginning and the end of story, and the thistle becomes a significant symbol in two ways. The first is that it represents the life of Murad. The second is that the thistle mirrors the death of Murad. The thistle s ability to represent both the life and death Murad makes it a vital usage of symbolism in telling the story of Murad. One reason the Tartar thistle is important to Hadji Murad is that it represents Murad s life. Readers are able to establish this through several different references. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen when the narrator has difficulty trying to pick the thistle from the ditch, describing his experience as, Not only did the stalk prick on every side even through the handkerchief I wrapped round my hand but it was so tough that I had to struggle with it for nearly five minutes, breaking the fibres one by one; and when I had at last plucked it, the stalk was all frayed, and the flower itself no longer seemed so fresh and beautiful (Tolstoy 20). The narrator s struggle to take the thistle represents the battle by the Russians to capture Murad after he escapes to help his family. Throughout the fight Murad was shot multiple times, but he continued to fight and take down the Russians, much like the thistle losing its fibres as it continues to prick the narrator s hand. Finally Murad is felled by the Russians who hack at his body and finally decapitate him. Murad, like the thistle is no longer fresh and beautiful (Tolstoy 273 289). Another indication that the thistle represents Murad s death is its color, which is crimson (Tolstoy 20). The color is seen again when Murad is beheaded and the blood pouring from him is also described as crimson (289). • 44. American Manufacturing and the U.S Economy Essay For over half a century, American manufacturing has dominated the globe. During this period, many great American businesses and corporations began. Companies like General Motors, Levi, and Ford became widely known and promoted. American manufacturing became synonymous with quality, greatness, and reliability. However, manufacturing in the U.S has started to plummet as the economy has begun this recession. It may seem as if the country that used to make everything is really on the edge of making virtually nothing. U.S. jobs in manufacturing have been vanishing at a fast rate and unemployment percent is on the rise, but despite the vanishing jobs Americans productivity is on the rise and Americans still lead the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even with the misfortune with unemployment, Americans still lead the world in manufacturing. But there is a counterbalance to the drop in total employment, the dramatic rise in productivity. According to the National Association of Manufacturers, over the past two decades manufacturing productivity has grown by 94%, which is considerably faster than the rest of the U.S. business sector, where productivity grew by 38% over the same time period. Another concept that is brought up by the article is international trade and business. There are a number of gains to be obtained from international trade, such as lower prices, greater choice, and a variety of resources. Many of the millions of laid off workers in recent years ended up shifting into lower salaried service jobs, while U.S. manufacturers relocated production facilities to low cost countries. The U.S has established great economic trade connections with the rest of the world, and that has lead to U.S. based plants shifting work over to foreign competitors, such as China, so that they can have cheap labor. It is much cheaper to have workers overseas however there is the danger of unemployment. The United States needs to protect the economy from imports, so sometimes a tariff is applied. • 45. Analysis Of Alexander Solzhenitsyn s One Day In The Life... To Know One Man is to Know a Nation Abstract: Both Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Leonard Peltier allow the reader to see life through the eyes of one man, and through that one man, a vision of a nation of suffering people emerges. Despite using very different styles and genres, both One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich and Prison Writings: My Life is my Sundance show the reader deep truths about a people through the lens of one imprisoned man. To Know One Man is to Know a Nation Leonard Peltier is a man who has been immensely wronged by law enforcement, the government, and many white men in his life, if you believe that his work of non fiction, Prison Writing: My Life is My Sundance, is the whole truth and nothing but the truth behind why he is in prison. When the reader sees the injustice he has suffered over and over again, they can t help but feel infuriated for not only him, but for his people as a whole: the indigenous population of North America, nay, the whole world. By reading the story of one man s journey through this life, the reader begins to understand the way an entire people group has suffered throughout history merely for being who they are, and you begin to ingest the way indigenous people are continually ... It s impossible to miss that the story of the individual suffering of one man is really the story of the imprisonment and punishment of an entire generation of a people group because of what they believe in. If anyone dissented against the government, they were jailed and set to work, often until their death. Often mental illnesses are overlooked and seen as someone who is just being psycho or dramatic, but, they are real illnesses that cause suffering in people and have treatments. In Lady Macbeth s time period in the eleventh century however, science was not advanced enough in the field of psychology to have treatments available, therefore, like Lady Macbeth, people who lived with illness before advancement in psychology were often shunned upon, ignored or were left to suffer with their illness in silence throughout their whole lives. Though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also known as manic depression, Bipolar disorder is characterised by episodes of mania followed by episodes of depression. Kay Redfield Jamison [a psychologist who had bipolar disorder] did impulsive things that felt good at the time but had painful consequences like going on lavish shopping sprees, engaging in promiscuous behaviour, racking up credit card debt, and emptying her bank accounts. In similarity, Lady Macbeth has manic behaviour when she hears from a letter from Macbeth that the witches said he was going to become king; As soon as Lady Macbeth hears this news, manically, Lady Macbeth plans the murder Duncan to ensure Macbeth s place as king. For Lady Macbeth, it felt good at the time of planning Duncan s murder, but planning a murder so her husband can become king is just as irrational as Jamison emptying her bank accounts. Accordingly, ...these episodes [of mania] were followed by emotional crashes: Crippling bouts of depression that sent her into a suicidal spiral. At the age of 28, Jamison tried to kill herself by taking an overdose of Lithium, lapsed into a coma, but thankfully emerged from it determined to find help through medication and therapy. Similarly, Lady Macbeth s assertive and confident personality changes to a weak and depressive personality as near the end of the play. As a nerdy scientific dreamer, hoping to some day own a droid like C3 PO or R2 D2 to assist in the lives of millions in every imaginable form is now reality. Because of my programming background I am able to understand that without the proper programming my droid, computer, or smartphone are no better than a pebble skimming in the river. • 48. Plentifu Mark Twain s The War-Prayer Realism and naturalism are both basic yet cynical views of life and humanity that arose during the trials and turmoil of the 19th century. Both views stripped away the layers of romanticism to present a natural or real viewpoint of the work. These forms of writing refuse to idealize or praise the subject while also avoiding artificial, fantasy, or mystical elements. In American literature, the term realism refers to writings that depict the realistic, everyday life of an average, middle class individual. It portrays concrete reality closely and more emphasis is placed on the character and his purpose rather than the plot and action. Word choice and diction used by realists are common vernacular and the events that take place are plausible. The characters and plots are often based around factual events and people, and it aims to show a truthful representation of reality. Realism began around the start of the Civil War and lasted until the turn of the century a time of exponential growth for the United States. With this growth came increasing rates of literacy which provided a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twain impeccably employs realism in a way that powerfully and effectively expresses his objective message. He opens this story in the setting of a Sunday morning church congregation celebrating the war and praying for safety, strength, courage, and well being of the soldiers as they go into battle. The preacher prays blessings over the arms and that in the spirit of love God grant the victory. Throughout this story, Twain illustrates realism not only through the language and dialect he portrays, but also the representations of the characters. The reader can easily visualize being in the congregation due to the realistic pride being portrayed by the American people and the common speech used during the prayer dialect that any individual would hear while in a church ... I picked this case study because I thought it would be both interesting and challenging as well as the fact it was on our doorstep. Before we could do anything we had to plan our investigation. Through my fieldwork I must obtain a table of results. For such data I must display it in a clear and straightforward manner so I can analyse and interpret the results using statistical analysis such as averages, spearman s rank, nearest neighbour, chi square and location quotient. We made sure that we all stayed together and set up lines of communication. It was essential that we wore warm comfortable clothing with a first aid kit always at hand. Aims When we set out at the start we had several aims to consider. Data Collection At each of our seventeen stops we recorded readings for river width, average depth, cross sectional area, wetted perimeter, river discharge, types of stones and water temperature. We systematically obtained our samples by measuring every ten meters at each of our four locations. In my analysis of the River Shimna I selected three areas within the river study. They were the

Parenthood Can Bring Stress On The Job Of Raising Children Parenthood can bring stress to the job of raising children, but being a single mother is one of the most difficult things a woman can be. In today s society, being a single mother is getting to become more common in the United States. Most of the time it is due to teenagers having unprotected sex at a young age or if you are an older single mother, it could be because of death, divorce, etc. It can be challenging being a single mother because you re doing what was designed to be a two person job. I know this from experience because my mom is a single mother who raised four children. Most likely single mothers have to get two jobs just to support herself and her children especially if they do not have a high school or college degree. In addition, single mothers have less alone time because they have to be with their children at all times. Also being a single mother leads to being overloaded with too many tasks which leads to feeling overwhelmed. I think single mothers are the most multi tasked people in the world. It is difficult for a single mother to have one minimum wage job and raise a kid because that one job will not be able to pay all the bills and put food on the table, so single mothers have to get two jobs just to make ends meet. I remember seeing my mom getting ready for her first job at four in the morning. I can tell that it took a toll on her body because she would have bags under her eyes from not getting a complete eight hours of sleep. Sometimes she would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
