How many existing artefacts do you feel you will need to look at?
I feel that I will need to look at quite a few different artefacts to get the efficient amount of
research to complete my work.
I will look at around 4 different artefacts and try and push myself to do more.
When looking at different artefacts I will also look at lots of different ones across different
companies rather than lots of the same campaign from the same company. This will give me a
wider range of research so that I have a better knowledge on what different companies do.
What kinds of artefacts are you expecting to look at?
The kinds of things that I’m expecting to look at are Posters, and Billboards as these are the most
common and best ways of advertising, so I think that I would be best doing it this way.
By conducting my research by looking at these kinds of artefacts it will be easy for me to get the
information I need.
I will try and look at some different things as well while conducting my research like Stickers, Pens
and Fridge magnets as not many people would campaign for help using them. Though these kind
of things might be hard to come across.
What elements will you be looking at to help you with your research?
Elements that I will be looking at when I’m conducting my research are the text, the text to me
tells you how serious the subject is, for example, if the text is bold it will make you look at the
poster more because it will attract your eyes more, but if the writing is really fine then you won’t
really notice it and
the font and the images, I will also be looking at the colours that are being used on the articles.
I will also be looking at the photographs on the advertisements for the campaigns to see what
message they are trying to get across in the image. If the image is dark and gloomy then people
will feel the need to help more because it will force the audience to feel sorry for the person on
the poster, but if they aren’t looking that sad or unhappy then the audience might think, oh well
they don’t look sad or anything so they cant need help that much.
Primary Research:
How many people would you hope to question as part of your primary research?
When conducting my research I’m hoping to be questioning 10 people, as stated in the brief. If I
can I would like to do more but if not and I don’t manage to reach 10 then I’ll have to do the best
with what I have.
What age group would you like to target and why?
16 to 24 year olds and as bad as this sounds I think this is the best age group because these seem
to be more venerable and persuaded by things more because they are more likely to feel guilty
and want to help, rather than people above this age that aren’t really interested in anything at all
but themselves.
I have also chosen this age group because they are the ones that are mostly likely to be kicked out
from being rebellious and the ones that need help the most because once they fall off the rails it
will be harder for them to get back on again because they are so young and will have little
experience in life.
I will also be targeting this age group because this is who the group SASH specialises in and
because it states to do it for this age in the brief.
What methods will you use?
When asking questions for my research I will create a questionnaire for people to fill in, but most
of the time when people are given questionnaires they won’t bother filling them in, so I’ll print a
few questionnaires off and see how it goes, and if it doesn’t go too well I shall ask people directly
and through chat rooms and social networking sites.
When making my questionnaires I will use a range of open and closed questions so that people
have a choice of which ones to answer.
How will you know if your research has been successful?
I will know if my research has been successful by how much research I get, if I don’t get much back
then I will obviously be doing something wrong somewhere so then I will try new methods of
collecting research.
Considerations:
Why might you need to be sensitive when carrying out research during this project?
I’ll need to be sensitive when carrying out the research for this project because its a very raw
subject, especially when they might have been through homelessness or know of someone that
has.
They may also not want to talk about homelessness because its quite a personal subject, and other
people might not want to talk about it because it’s not affecting their life and it hasn’t got anything
to do with them so they won’t want anything to do with it.
When doing my questionnaires I will ask people if they are comfortable with me asking questions
about the subject and I will make sure that the questionnaires are anonymous instead of throwing
them in at the deep end and making them be known to the public once they have answered the
questions.
I will also make sure I don’t collect information that’s too harsh and make sure that I don’t ask
questions that aren’t too harsh.
Could you face any problems when trying to do this research? If so, is there a way to overcome
these?
When doing this research people might not want to be involved with anything that I’m doing so
they might not want to help, so to overcome this I would approach them as a normal person rather
than one of them annoying people in the street that stop you and ask you for money.
When I’m asking questions they might not want to answer them because it’s a sensitive subject so
this will mean that I might not get enough information to conduct my work. So to overcome this I
would send it to loads of different people so that I have more chance of people giving me feedback
and if this doesn’t work well, I could always ask family members and friends as well to ensure I’ll
have some feedback.
Where would you expect your finished pieces to be displayed and distributed?
When my work is finished I’d expect them to be put everywhere for everyone to see because
everyone needs to know about homelessness and we need as much help as we can get to get
people off the street.
I’d also expect them to be in places where people ages 16-24 would be, for example, in college,
schools, parks, shops, libraries, clubs, cinemas and on busses, so that people are constantly being
reminded that we need help all the time to give people the best life possible.
What funding issues might an organisation like SASH face?
If the company was government funded then I don’t think that they would have any problems
because they will always have a supply of money, but if the company is individual then they might
struggle for money and need to try and do things to get money, for example asking people to
donate.

Aims and considerations sheet1

  • 1. Aims and Considerations sheet Existing Products: How many existing artefacts do you feel you will need to look at? I feel that I will need to look at quite a few different artefacts to get the efficient amount of research to complete my work. I will look at around 4 different artefacts and try and push myself to do more. When looking at different artefacts I will also look at lots of different ones across different companies rather than lots of the same campaign from the same company. This will give me a wider range of research so that I have a better knowledge on what different companies do. What kinds of artefacts are you expecting to look at? The kinds of things that I’m expecting to look at are Posters, and Billboards as these are the most common and best ways of advertising, so I think that I would be best doing it this way. By conducting my research by looking at these kinds of artefacts it will be easy for me to get the information I need. I will try and look at some different things as well while conducting my research like Stickers, Pens and Fridge magnets as not many people would campaign for help using them. Though these kind of things might be hard to come across. What elements will you be looking at to help you with your research? Elements that I will be looking at when I’m conducting my research are the text, the text to me tells you how serious the subject is, for example, if the text is bold it will make you look at the poster more because it will attract your eyes more, but if the writing is really fine then you won’t really notice it and the font and the images, I will also be looking at the colours that are being used on the articles. I will also be looking at the photographs on the advertisements for the campaigns to see what message they are trying to get across in the image. If the image is dark and gloomy then people will feel the need to help more because it will force the audience to feel sorry for the person on the poster, but if they aren’t looking that sad or unhappy then the audience might think, oh well they don’t look sad or anything so they cant need help that much.
  • 2. Primary Research: How many people would you hope to question as part of your primary research? When conducting my research I’m hoping to be questioning 10 people, as stated in the brief. If I can I would like to do more but if not and I don’t manage to reach 10 then I’ll have to do the best with what I have. What age group would you like to target and why? 16 to 24 year olds and as bad as this sounds I think this is the best age group because these seem to be more venerable and persuaded by things more because they are more likely to feel guilty and want to help, rather than people above this age that aren’t really interested in anything at all but themselves. I have also chosen this age group because they are the ones that are mostly likely to be kicked out from being rebellious and the ones that need help the most because once they fall off the rails it will be harder for them to get back on again because they are so young and will have little experience in life. I will also be targeting this age group because this is who the group SASH specialises in and because it states to do it for this age in the brief. What methods will you use? When asking questions for my research I will create a questionnaire for people to fill in, but most of the time when people are given questionnaires they won’t bother filling them in, so I’ll print a few questionnaires off and see how it goes, and if it doesn’t go too well I shall ask people directly and through chat rooms and social networking sites. When making my questionnaires I will use a range of open and closed questions so that people have a choice of which ones to answer. How will you know if your research has been successful? I will know if my research has been successful by how much research I get, if I don’t get much back then I will obviously be doing something wrong somewhere so then I will try new methods of collecting research.
  • 3. Considerations: Why might you need to be sensitive when carrying out research during this project? I’ll need to be sensitive when carrying out the research for this project because its a very raw subject, especially when they might have been through homelessness or know of someone that has. They may also not want to talk about homelessness because its quite a personal subject, and other people might not want to talk about it because it’s not affecting their life and it hasn’t got anything to do with them so they won’t want anything to do with it. When doing my questionnaires I will ask people if they are comfortable with me asking questions about the subject and I will make sure that the questionnaires are anonymous instead of throwing them in at the deep end and making them be known to the public once they have answered the questions. I will also make sure I don’t collect information that’s too harsh and make sure that I don’t ask questions that aren’t too harsh. Could you face any problems when trying to do this research? If so, is there a way to overcome these? When doing this research people might not want to be involved with anything that I’m doing so they might not want to help, so to overcome this I would approach them as a normal person rather than one of them annoying people in the street that stop you and ask you for money. When I’m asking questions they might not want to answer them because it’s a sensitive subject so this will mean that I might not get enough information to conduct my work. So to overcome this I would send it to loads of different people so that I have more chance of people giving me feedback and if this doesn’t work well, I could always ask family members and friends as well to ensure I’ll have some feedback. Where would you expect your finished pieces to be displayed and distributed? When my work is finished I’d expect them to be put everywhere for everyone to see because everyone needs to know about homelessness and we need as much help as we can get to get people off the street. I’d also expect them to be in places where people ages 16-24 would be, for example, in college, schools, parks, shops, libraries, clubs, cinemas and on busses, so that people are constantly being reminded that we need help all the time to give people the best life possible. What funding issues might an organisation like SASH face? If the company was government funded then I don’t think that they would have any problems because they will always have a supply of money, but if the company is individual then they might struggle for money and need to try and do things to get money, for example asking people to donate.
