Aims and Considerations
How many existing artifacts do you feel you will need to look at?
I think that if I want to gather a good range of information and research I need to
look at several artifacts and existing similar products that have already been made
by both other charities and SASH.
By looking at a variety of different existing products will help me to compare them
and research into which ones work the best and which ones are the most effective
on the target audience so that I have a good idea of what I need to include in my
final product design.
What kinds of artifacts are you expecting to look at?
I need to think of what I want to use as my final design so that I have a good idea of
the kinds of existing products I need to look at so that they will help me to create my
product and hopefully develop it so that it is effective on my audience.
I also need to look at artifacts that have both worked and not worked on their target
audience to ensure that I do not make the same mistakes on mine and I can improve
mine better than the successful artifacts, this will also allow me to compare.
What elements will you be looking at to help you with your research?
The main things I will be looking for in the existing products will be the fonts, images
or illustrations, colours and the language.
All of these aspects of the products are very important because they all target the
audience in subliminal ways; the font for example needs to be casual to attract the
younger audience and so they feel comfortable while reading the text.
The images or illustrations are also very important because this will be the main
thing that will attract the target audience because this is initially what they will see
first on the product, the image needs to represent what the products message is.
The colours are the thing that will also attract attention and give the audience the
theme of what the product is advertising, such as using bright colours will catch the
eye of the audience but will give off a happy theme unlike the colour red which
suggests danger or something bad. The language is one of the most important things
as it is a younger audience the product will need to use modern language and words
and possibly phrases the younger generation can relate to but it needs to be formal
at the same time because it has a sensitive message.
How many people would you hope to question as part of your primary research?
I am aiming to ask at least ten people the questions in my survey, this help me to
collect a large amount of information, asking a large amount of people will also help
me to compare answers and gain more information and peoples views.
I am going to ask 20 questions to each ten people so I will have gathered a vast
amount of information and answers.

What age group would you like to target and why?
The age group that I am aiming to target is the same age as me which is around 16-
18, this is a good age range because the charity SASH is based around helping young
people who are homeless that are aged 16-24, asking this age range will help me to
get an inside view on how young adults see homelessness in people who are the
same age as them.
It will also be easy for me to contact people who are the same age as me and I can
talk easily face-to-face with people in the same age group as me.
What methods will you use?
My main method will be using SurveyMonkey.com, here I will create a set of
questions in a survey and send the link to the website to friends and other people
who are willing to help, this method I think will be the most effective because people
can fill it out at home in their own time and all my results can be sored in one place.
My secondary method of research will be printing the questions off and asking
people around college or handing out the sheets of questions, the only problem with
this method is that people may not want to fill it out on the spot and if I give it out I
may not get them back and it will be a challenge to collect them up again.
How will you know if your research has been successful?
I will know if my research has been successful because I will have gathered a large
amount of information to use in my final product design, I will have a lot of answers
from my survey and I will be able o plan out what I am going to do for my final
product very easily because of the large amount of information I have collected.
I will also know I that my research has been successful if I hit my targets such as the
amount of people I am aiming to survey.
Why might you need to be sensitive when carrying out research during this
project?
The subject we are covering is a very sensitive subject in itself but I also need to be
careful of offending people who are taking the surveys, I need to be aware of what I
am including in my questions to avoid offending anybody’s gender, race, religion etc.
If I do not treat these questions with respect and the people I ask it may end in
upsets and not getting the information I needs, I also need to make sure that the
people I am asking have not being through anything involved in the questions or
anybody close to them because this could also cause upset and loss of answer
opportunities and information.
Could you face any problems when trying to do this research? If so, is there a way
to overcome these?
The main problem that I could encounter would be losing all my work and findings,
to prevent this from happening I need my work on a memory stick and also backed
up on my home laptop or on another laptop.
Another problem I could be faced with is not gathering the information I need by
offending someone or upsetting someone with my survey, this may lead to me not

finding the information I need, to prevent this from happening I need to ensure that
my survey does not include any harmful language or anything that could cause
anyone any upset such as bad language, racism and sexism, I also need to be aware
of who I am talking to and whether they have had experience as I could upset them
too.
Where would you expect your finished pieces to be displayed and distributed?
From seeing charities advertising in everyday life I would imagine that my finished
pieces would be displayed on banners and posters in places where my target
audience would be able to see them such as in schools and at bus stops or possibly
leaflets in shops where my target audience woud see them and be able to get in
contact.
What funding issues might an organisation like SASH face?
Because SASH is such a small charity and is based on only a small subject and is very
local they may find it hard to get the message around and get the funding they need
to help the young audience, on their website they have a donation link for people to
donate to them so that they can move to a bigger place as more and more young
people are becoming homeless.
Anothe funding issue they may encounter is money to keep the charity joing, unlike
unicef or oxfam they are focused on a soecific subject that is not very commonly
discussed but is a growing issue and peopledont really hear about it so do not know
that they exist or that they need the money.
