CONCLUSIONS
TASK 7
INTRODUCTION
I have done some audience research, which enables me to see what my target
audience want to see. I have done primary research because I created a
questionnaire and then asked 15 college students to complete it; this gives their
thoughts on what my magazine will be based around and what it will look like. To do
this, I had to think of specific types of questions to ask them. In my questionnaire, I
included both open and closed questions, this is so that I could have some straight
forward questions; and some detailed ones, which included their expressions. In
addition to this, I used both quantitative questions (numerical data) and qualitative
questions (opinions) to ensure that I get a range of answers. From my results I can
go on and create a target audience profile and also start to draft what my magazine
will look like and what will be included in the magazine.
QUESTION 1- GENDER
• From the complete
questionnaires 67% of the
people were female and 33%
were male. I believe that this
was a good range of people to
ask because predominantly I am
aiming my magazine at teenage
girls. However, by asking males
it gives an overview off what
other people think should be
including in my magazine. I
decided to ask this question,
because I have a specific gender
for my magazine; and from this
survey I now know for definite
that I will be targeting my music
magazine for females.

QUESTION 2 - AGE
• The majority of people who
answered my questionnaire were
between the age range of 16 - 18.
This is because I completed the
questionnaire during college times.
This may not have been the best
way because if I was to ask these
questions in public; I would have
got a varied age range. On the
other hand, this is good because
my target audience will be based
around this age range. I decided to
ask this question, because it
indicates what style of writing I
should use and whether or not it
should be formal or informal; so
that my target audience can easily
appeal to it.

QUESTION 3 - OCCUPATION
• This question enables me to
get to know the target
audience more and learn
about their lifestyle. From this
I learnt, that 13% of the
students, were employed;
which meant that they may be
able to purchase magazines
on a more regular basis than
other college students.
However, the bad thing about
asking this question was that
all the people who I asked
were alls students because
they were all in college.

QUESTION 4 - ETHNICITY
• In my questionnaire I decided
to include a question about
ethnicity, this enables me to
see who the dominant group
is for pop music. From my
research, I found out that
white was the predominant
group and African and Asian
were the ethnic minority. This
follows the stereotype of pop
music magazines being
targeted at white females;
which I will carry on when I
start to construct my
magazine. 77%

QUESTION 5 - MUSIC LISTEN
TO• I believe that this is an
important question to ask
because the genre of music
for my magazine will be pop.
From the research, I found out
that 60% of people listened to
pop music, this is good
because it indicates that the
majority of people who I asked
were interested in the genre I
chose. This will help me when
making my target audience
profile; because it will be
someone who enjoys listening
to music.

QUESTION 6 - ENJOY POP MUSIC?
• I decided to ask this question
because the genre of my music
magazine is pop; therefore it is
good to get an invite of what
other people think of this genre.
I found out that 73% of people
were interested in listening to
pop music; this is good
because it demonstrates that
many people would buy my
magazine as it is the genre
they like. This represents as my
genre as being very popular
and ‘liked’ in the music industry
because only 27% said that
they disliked it.

QUESTION 7 - ARTISTS
• I believe that this question was
important because it is key
information knowing about, which
artists my target audience like
listening to. From this, I learn that
there are lot of pop artists, who
my audience like listening to;
therefore I could incorporate this
into my magazine by having
coverlines including specific
artists. From my research, I found
out that currently 41% of people
that I asked enjoyed listening to
Justin Bieber and 14% enjoyed
listening to Jess Glynne. These
are potential artists who I may

QUESTION 8 - PURCHASE MUSIC MAGAZINES?
• This is a very important question
to ask because as my magazine
is based around music; I needed
to know whether or not people
would purchase my magazine.
From this result; I learn that 80%
said that they wouldn't buy a
music magazine. However, I
believe this is the case because
they are college students and
they may not have enough
money to buy magazines. In
addition to this, I only asked a
small range of people; however if
I were to ask a broader range,
then I believe more people would
have said yes.

QUESTION 9 - HOW MANY MAGAZINES PURCHASED A
YEAR?
• The next question followed on
with the previous question. If
anyone were to buy a music
magazine, I wanted to know
how much they would/do buy
a year. This is key information
because it gives me details of
how many issues would be
produced. Furthermore, this
gives me an indication
whether or not my magazine
will be a monthly or weekly
issue.

QUESTION 10 - PRICE
• This is an essential question when it
comes to making a music magazine.
This is because I need to know what
price range is suitable for my target
audience. This is because if I were to
make it too high then not many people
would buy my magazine as they are
only college students and they may
not be able to afford it. From my
results, I gather that 47% said that
they would pay £3-4 for a music
magazine. Therefore, from this result I
conclude that I will make my
magazine £3 - due to the fact that
most of my target audience believed
that this would be a suitable price.
Only 20% of people who I asked said
that they would buy a magazine for
over £5; this indicates that this price
is too high for my magazine.

QUESTION 11 - CONTENT
• Moreover, I believe that this is another
essential question to ask your target
audience, before you construct a music
magazine. I decided to ask this question
because I need to know what content
would be good to include in the
magazine. This is so that I can intrigue
my readers and also persuade them to
purchase my magazine. From the pie
chart, we can see that 22% of people
said that they want charts to be included
in the magazine; I also believe this is
important because the magazine is to
do with music. In addition to this, 17%
said that they would want gossip,
interviews and articles to be in the
magazine. Therefore, from this my
coverlines will include gossip and in my
contents page I will feature many
articles and interviews.

QUESTION 12 - COLOURS
• I think that this is a significant
question to ask because my
magazine needs to be aesthetically
pleasing if someone wants to
purchase my magazine. From my
results, I have learnt that 33% said
that they would want to see pink on
my magazine; therefore this may be
the colour, which will feature in my
masthead. Following this colour,
29% of people said that they would
want to see white throughout my
magazines. To conclude, from this
information the colour scheme for
my magazine will be pink, white, and
hints of orange; this is because all
of these colours compliment each
other and it is also what my target
audience want to see.

QUESTION 13 - MUSIC
CONCERTS• I decided to ask this question to
get more information on what my
target audience life style is like.
This result indicated a very mixed
and split feeling about going to
music concerts. In addition to this,
this demonstrates that in my
magazine that I could include
information about upcoming gigs
and concerts as many people
would be interested in it as 53% of
people said that they do attend
music concerts. This also gives
me an indication of their lifestyle
because it tells me whether or not
they are able to attend concerts.

QUESTION 14 - TYPE OF
ARTICLE• The type of article my target
audience prefers is very valuable
information, which i need to take
into consideration when
constructing my magazine. These
results indicated to me that for my
double page spread I will need to
produce an article that is based
around the style of question and
answer. This is because only 17%
of the people I asked believed that
free-flowing would be better. From
this survey, it indicates that my
target audience prefer to have
something easy and simple to read
rather than a large chunk of text.

QUESTION 15 - FRONT COVER
• I decided to make a question on what
people would like to see on the front
cover because I believe it is one of
the key elements, which persuade
people to buy the magazine. In
addition to this, the front cover of
magazine is the first thing, which you
see and it shows what the magazine
is about and determines whether or
not you will buy the magazine.
Therefore, from this question I
understand that my target audience
want to see freebies on the front
cover; so I will include this when it
comes to drafting the design. In
addition to this, they want to see the
biggest gossip and images of artists.
From this, my main coverlines and
coverlines will be gossip related; as
this is what this research portrays.
