- 4. KUTCH STYLE OF EMBROIDERY • Rabari shepherds, Kambi farming and Ahir herding castes are the main practitioners of Kutch style of embroidery. • Got its root from ‘Mochi’ • Characteristics • Open-chain stitching • Profuse use of mirrors in case of Rabari and Ahir

- 6. Origin/history • It was originally practiced by pastoral community/ nomadic sheep herders settled in Kuch. • Are patronage by royal family. • They identify themselves as Gops or herdsmen who came with Krishna to Dwarka. • Mostly engaged in agriculture.

CARACTERISTICS • TOOLS: • Fabric • Chalk • Stencil • Silk or cotton thread • Needle • Abhalas • STITCHES • Extensive use of abhlas • Only round abhlas used • Sakli and vanna (herring bone) stitches used • COLOR • Of embroidery- white, yellow, green and red • Of background – red, orange, white, black or green

- 11. ORIGIN/ HISTORY • This embroidery got its name from the silk floss used for making of embroidery, which is locally known as ‘Heer’ • Is also known as ‘Banni’ embroidery • It is done by the Banni and Lohana community
- 12. CHARACTERISTICS • COLOR • Red • Yellow • Pink Filled with tread work • STITCH- FILLING • Button-hole • Long and short (double satin) stitch • Colorful & shady threads around small pieces of mirrors • FABRIC – hand woven and hand spun cotton and wool • DESIGNS –geometric and minute
