The Effect Of The Concentration Of Ethanol On The
Membrane...
Effect of the concentration of ethanol on the membrane permeability using Beta vulgaris
Introduction (215)
Cell membrane is a selective boundary composed of a unique phospholipid bi layer
structure consisting of lipids, proteins and carbohydrates. This structure regulates the
import and export to maintain homeostasis condition inside the cell. (Knox et al., 2014)
The plasma membrane is referred as a fluid mosaic which also has selective permeability.
The permeability of the membrane can be varied depending on the external conditions.
(Mitchel, 2015)
The aim of this investigation was to determine the effect of ethanol on the membrane
permeability using Beta vulgaris. Beta vulgaris contains red pigments called betalain
sequestered in vacuoles. The cell membrane is generally impermeable to betalain as this
pigment is relatively large and cannot pass through the membrane by diffusion.
(123HelpMe.com, 2015) However, by increasing the permeability of the cell membrane,
betalain can leach out of the cell and colour the liquid red. The colour intensity of the
solution due to leakage of betalain is proportional to the membrane permeability. To
quantify the colour intensity, the light absorbance of the solutions containing a Beta
vulgaris cube were measured by a spectrophotometer. These measurements were used to
analyse the membrane permeability. (Flinders University, 2015)
According to another study, plasma membranes becomes more fluid and permeable when
exposed to a higher
The Director Of News And Public Affairs At Weaa
Corin Fiske, the Director of News and Public Affairs at WEAA, began her employment
with a very difficult task. WEAA, the public radio station over the years had become
disorganized and its organizational structure weak, leading to disobedience and lack of
commitment from its volunteer employees. When a long standing radio host resigned
and threatened to take her segment and its rights with her, Fiske knew that possible
disaster loomed for the organization and needed to make serious changes to ensure the
continued success and at the same time development and rebuilding of a once thriving
station.
WEAA a non profit, National Public Radio (NPR) affiliated station that served the
Baltimore market, opened in August 1977. The station known for playing jazz grew in
popularity over the years even winning the acclaimed title of Jazz Station of the Year in
1999 by Gavin Magazine. In 2000, 2002, and 2005 the Citypaper newspaper even named
WEAA the best radio station in Baltimore. Despite the popularity of the station, executive
management realized the organization was not living up to its full potential due to a lack
of a robust organizational infrastructure in addition to a negative culture. Determined to
have the radio station raise its market potential, they hired Fiske in August of 2006 to act
as a change agent.
Organizations tend to thrive with leaders who have a strong vision of what they want
their companies to develop and expand into. Organizations such as these are
Fossil Fuel Vs. Fossil Fuels
Opening Scientists say that the earth has existed for over 4.5 billion years (Sarfati,
Jonathan). In fact, if we condensed the entire history of the earth into a 1 year period
it would show that humans would only have existed in its final hour. Over these
billions of years plant and animal remains have decayed from exposure to heat and
pressure to form natural deposits of fossil fuels (Science Daily). There are 3 types of
fossil fuels that we use today. Oil, coal, and natural gasmake up the majority of our
energy source. These resources have been developing in the earth s crust for billions of
years before humans came into existence. Without fossil fuels the world would not be
where it is today. The purpose of this paper is to explain the fundamentals of each fossil
fuel, the advantages and disadvantages of using fossil fuels as an energy source, and
how they shape the world we live in today.
Non Renewable Energy Fossil fuels are one of the hot topics of the modern world.
Perhaps the biggest problem we face today is the shortage of fossil fuels, and the lack
of new energy sources to replace them. Fossil fuels are considered non renewable. Oil,
coal, and natural gas have revolutionized the world we live in. These fossil fuels have
ignited an economic and social boom that has never been seen before. It has allowed
industrialization to grow the population exponentially. In 1875, just before the first
industrial revolution, the world s population was roughly 1.325 billion.
Is Macbeth Relevant To Contemporary Society
How are themes in Macbeth relevant to contemporary society?
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare in 1606. Macbeth is about a
nobleman called Macbeth. Macbeth is told by three witches that he will be king. To
bring this prophecy to fruition, he kills anyone and everyone in his way. How are the
themes, messages and ideas present in Macbeth relevant to contemporary society?
Contemporary means belonging to or occurring in the present. Some themes and ideas in
Macbeth are relevant to modern society. For example, appearances can be deceiving and
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Some of the themes and ideas in Macbeth relate to
contemporary Society, possibly better then they related to society and culture in 1606.

Injuries People who are involved in car accidents frequently injure their back. The
location of the misalignment or injury typically affects the symptoms experienced.
Some symptoms commonly associated with a low back injury include: muscle
spasms; sciatica (a stabbing or sharp pain that originates in the low back, wraps around
the hip and moves down the buttock into the upper leg); areas in the low back that feel
sore when they are touched; as well as a dull, aching pain in the lower back. Neck
Injuries (Including Whiplash) Any type of collision can cause a neck injury; however,
whiplash is commonly associated with car accidents. A whiplash injury occurs when the
head is flung back and forth abruptly. This action can cause the muscles and ligaments
supporting the head, and spine to stretch or tear. Furthermore, this forceful movement can
cause the vertebrae in the individual s neck to become misplaced, which can decrease its
range of motion. In addition, the soft, jellylike disc located between the vertebrae may
herniate or bulge. Should this happen, pressure may be placed on the nerves and tissues
surrounding the effected vertebrae and disc, leading to pain. The
The Book Thief Guilt Essay
Death is the unavoidable end for everyone. The very real topic can bring people
together, but can also pull people apart. This is evident in The Secret Life of Bees by
Sue Monk Kidd, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. A theme statement that can be
found in both books is that surviver s guilt can be dealt with through kindness and
friendship. This statement is evident in how characters cope with the survivors guilt by
assist the living, talking to others about the guilt, and how the lives of the dead are
celebrated. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, shows the theme statement of surviver s
guilt can be dealt with through kindness and friendship, and is proven in how characters
manage the guilt by assisting the living. To start, Hans life is... Show more content on

To begin, in The Secret Life of Bees, May s deathincludes a lavish ceremony surrounded
by family and friends. Directly after May s death, a service is held. Kidd writes, First
thing Wednesday morning, August 5, a black hearse pulled up in the driveway, and
four men in dark suits lifted out May s casket and brought it right into the parlor.
When I asked August why May was coming through the front door in her coffin, she
said, We re gonna sit with her till she s buried (Kidd 200). May is brought back to her
house so loved ones can sit with her to pay their final respects. The funeral helps to
allow family and friends to receive closure and lessen any remaining guilt. This is
important to provide closure. Contrasting this, in The Book Thief, Liesel s brother,
Werner, was buried quickly with hardly any ceremony. Zusak writes, For Liesel, the
town was nameless, and it was there that her brother, Werner, was buried two days
later. Witness included a priest and two shivering grave diggers (Zusak 22). The
ceremony given to Werner was very simple. In fact, one might call it rushed. Even his
sister does not know the town of the burial. The significants of this is that Liesel s
guilt over his death can no longer be lessened. Without a proper burial to insure
closure, Liesel will forever feel guilty over Werner being dead while she is alive. The
differences of the funerals for the characters buried reflect on the characters influence
over others in The Book Thief and The Secret Life of
The New Liberal Arts, By Sanford J. Ungar And Robert
Reich...
To discuss the value of liberal education, there should be a mutual understanding that
investing in college means to invest in oneself. Furthermore, while some consider this
investment to be a critical stepping stone to success, others dismiss it, explaining that
school simply cannot prepare someone for the real world. Sanford J. Ungar and Robert
Reich explore both of these subjective values in their essays The New Liberal Artsand
College is a Ludicrous Waste of Money. Ungar, the president of Goucher College in
Baltimore, Maryland, discusses why a liberal education should be sought after; he does
so by introducing common misconceptions about liberal arts and, using argumentative
persuasion, proves their insignificance. On the other hand, Reich, the former secretary of
labor, argues against the conventional belief of college being the only road to financial
wellbeing; rather, he explains why a two year education may better accommodate many
college students, especially those in need of immediate work or those that simply cannot
afford a four year education. In all, although both Reich and Ungar generally discuss
liberal education, their perspectives differ when it comes to its practicality in the current
economy. Also, to express their different views about liberal arts, the authors use
contrasting tones to present their ideas to different intended audiences. In order to
analyze the given arguments, one must identify the intended audiences. Ungar explores
many ideas,
Social Media And Identity Analysis
Judaism takes the universal community concept all the way to help foster an identity
and purpose by emphasizing the need to stick with the community throughout life and
public identify yourself with them even if your belief wanes. The aspect of public
identification is vital here because it reinforces an incredibly deep social bond built out
of both a shared, common belief but also through superficial ethnicity in such a way that
they rarely feel alone in situations because of the ease of being able to identify someone
through their clothing and name. This sense of loneliness and not knowing anyone is
another pillar aspect of the strength of social media s strength because it allows these at
risk people easily find the type of person that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social media may appear to be irrelevant here at first, however social media is actually
again at the core of this issue because social media can often act as a safe haven for
those who are socially ostracized because it connects those who are in similar situations
together. This is especially problematic in terms of both the integrity of identity and
purpose as well the person s own future even if they never discovery their purpose
because this new community would both further confused their sense of identity and
purpose but also integrate and validate ideas and values of others which potentially
resulted in their social exile. Christianity s focus on salvation and its evangelism is
absolutely vital to pulling people out and preventing them from ever being trapped in
this echo chamber because the two combined offer those who have been ostracized a
way back even though the rest of society has written them off as failures. This, if
successful, brings those who are most vulnerable or have already fallen victim to social
media at varying levels towards individual development of identity and purpose without
the dangers of social media. This development of identity and purpose is supported by
the sense of community brought from the fact that many of those around you had also
suffered but had found salvation through the same means. However, this may seem to be
more of the original problem that contributed to the confusion of identify and purpose
however the Christian community is bound together by a shared forgiveness of their
past misdeeds so as to move on and continue to develop identity and purpose whereas
these types of social media communities are only bound together by a collective,
Paradise Lost Quotes Frankenstein
Question 4 At the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelly we are first introduced to
a quote from Paradise Lost. The quote says Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay
/ To mould Me man? Did I solicit thee/From darkness to promote me? At first the reader
may be confused as to why Frankenstein starts off with this quote, but as one reads
through the story, the purpose of the quote is revealed. The Creature can relate to the
quote and has a great deal in common with Satan, one of the characters from Paradise
Lost. When the Creature is first made he has no understanding about right and wrong and
the natural behavior of society. Paradise Lost was one of the first examples the creature
had that taught how the world worked and after reading it,
My Memories Of My Early Years
I have very few recollections of my early years and at what exact age I was able to read
and write. Some of my earliest memories are vague on the topic of my literacy.
However, I do remember small memories, such as, learning how to write my name in
cursive, winning prizes for reading, and crying over every assigned high schoolessay.
Over the last twelve years my literacy has grown rapidly with the help of teachers,
large school libraries, my family, and so on. There is always room for my literacy
skills to grow, but my family s help and positive attitude towards my education, the
school systems I have been a part of, and the horrible required essays from high school
helped me obtain the level, skills, habits, and processes that I use as part of my
literacy today. I was raised up in a family that loved to read and write, like my sister
who published a children s book while she was in just middle school; she also wrote
other stories that were loved my her teachers. My parents have continuously pushed me
and my siblings to read above our grade levels, study writing during the summer, and
never listen to when other kids or adult titled us as stupid . This positive drive really
aided me when I was a little and even endures on today.
The positive push when I was little made me want to be the very best in my class and a
little bit of a show off. My earliest memory of learning to read or write goes all the way
back to when I was around seven years old, and in elementary school on
The Purpose Of Government
What is the Purpose of Government?
Government, the thing that makes our lives function everyday has countless roles they
play in running a country. Some of these roles consist of listening to the citizens,
providing safety and controlling the money aspect of the country. The purpose of
government is to provide safety, control the money of the country and listen to the
citizens because throughout history it has been proven that they have been the most
crucial and effective parts of a government.
Throughout history the way of government has been perceived very differently, from
John Locke to Adolf Hitler everyone has their own opinion of how government should
work. John Locke said that government needs to provide services and offer protections
which has been known as the social contract. (Why Government 1). Another philosopher,
Thomas Hobbes also stated that he thought that one of the government s main purposes
was to provide protection for the citizens rights. (Why Government 2). Adolf Hitler s
idea of government on the other hand was way more diverse than any other philosopher.
His idea was to eliminate all Jews and communists from his country (Germany), then
build up a military to try and restore Germany which required him to basically turn
Germany into a dictatorship. (Nazi Germany).
From having a Military to having laws, one of the government s main purposes is to
protect and ultimately keep the country safe. One way the
Design Of The Research Design Essay
CHAPTER 4
DESIGN OF THE STUDY
4.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter describes the methodology and research design of the study. The
methodology describes the broad scheme or plan of the research and elaborates the tools
of analysis. A methodology or a research design refers to approaches and research
strategies, e.g. surveys; questionnaires etc. In a broader context methodology refers to a
design whereby, the researcher selects data and analysis procedures to investigate a
specific research problem (Cohen, Manion and Morrison; 2008). Research designs have
been classified differently by different scholars. Some scholars (Bodgan Biklen, 1982)
discuss research methods under two broad headings: qualitative and quantitative. Gay
(1987) indicates that while naturalistic researcher prefer qualitative methods, such as
participant observation and in depth interviewing, rationalistic researchers tend to use
quantitative methodologies such as random selection of subjects and administration of
standardized instruments. While qualitative studies focus on subjective information, such
as feelings, experiences or opinions: data that cannot be scientifically quantified.
Quantitative research is the opposite, shunning subjectivity in favor of objectivity.
Quantitative research focuses on statistics and quantifiable information.
The present research is both qualitative and quantitative in nature as it involves in depth
analysis of the textbook content as well as questionnaire which has both open
Gun Control In School Shootings
Imagine the notion of being defenseless against an individual holding the purpose of
wreaking mass devastation on the students and faculty inside of a school. In 2012, Sandy
Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut endured a tragedy that carries
historical significance to the notion of shielding those inside of a classroom in a worst
case situation. When twenty six students had their life taken away during a school
massacre, the thought of permitting teachers to carry handguns during class drew more
consideration than ever. The safety of the students inside of a school facility may be in
jeopardy as manifested in school shootings such as the ones which transpired at Sandy
Hook Elementary School and Virginia Tech, where thirty two students and teachers lost
their lives (History.com). While many feel that presenting teachers with handguns may
prove harmful to safety efforts, inflicting such standards would provide instructors and
students equally with enhanced protection and overall security.
Imagine being in the family s shoes when hearing through media reports that their child
was killed in a school shooting. If teachers had the option of being equipped with the
handguns, then that child (and the rest in the classroom) would have survived. How
many more times are we going to learn about a deranged gunman walking into a school
loaded and ready to kill? How many more innocent children need to die before we
wake up and give our teachers the prospect to fight back? The only resolution is to
grant our teachers a fighting chance. No shooter is going to target a school that can
protect itself and fight back. Every second counts in a school shooting. Calling 911
and anticipating for police to arrive isn t good enough. Spartanburg County South
Carolina Sheriff Chuck Wright says, Our form of justice is not making it. Carry a
concealed weapon. That ll fix it (Miller, Fox News). Then there was Milwaukee
County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. who lately created a nationwide uproar for advising
citizens to master how to manage firearms so they can protect themselves, because he
says, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option (Handelman Fox 6
Wisconsin). What happens when the nearest police unit is 10
Huck Finn Should Not Be Banned Essay
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is about a boy who sets out on an adventure that
leads him away from social restrictions and out into a world of unexplored places. Within
the story it holds many questionable events. Those events spark doubt in readers minds
and they start to shy away from the book and reject it immediately. I believe that, The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should not be banned in classrooms due to the book
including important topics such as slavery, morality, and history.
In a blog on Huffington Post, the writer Galanty Miller, wrote about the Philadelphia
High School banning Huckleberry Finn. Saying that it was a decision that made no
sense, and adding an example that showed how it made no sense to ban it. That even if it
made students uncomfortable it is an important piece of literature that went over racism
and intolerance. He also wrote about how nowadays everyone is uncomfortable any
content that is considered challenging. That being challenged isn t necessarily a harmful
notion, and includes an example from the movie Dead Poets Society .
The book shows sensitive issues that aren t thoroughly talked much about. Huckleberry

The usage of morals in the story is valuable yet adverse in a way, depending on how
people take in the information written. For example, a writer named Thomas J.
Hubschman, expressed on his blog that in the book Huck helps Jim regain freedom but it
is wrong to deprive someone of their property. He says that even though Jim is a human
being, it is wrong to keep someone s personal belongings away from them. That he did a
criminal act, but isn t it an acceptable idea to understand that certain notions are wrong.
Although it s easy to see where Hubschman is coming from, but taking someone s
freedom and ruling over them unfairly is something that should not be made

One trait of Scarlett that is exemplified for the duration of the entire novel is
determination. Regardless of how much the odds seem to be stacked against her, she
maintains her resolve. When Scarlett first hears of Ashley and Melanie s engagement,
she is astounded and incredulous as she had intended to have him for herself.
Determined to win him over, she formulates plans ranging from telling him point blank
that she loves him to hoping that Melanie dies. Despite the unlikelihood of her success,
she persists in chasing him throughout the novel. Before their engagement was
announced publicly, Scarlett corners Ashley privately and, against all of her mother s
teachings, bluntly and forwardly spills her heart with three words, I love you. When
that conversation proved fruitless, she wastes no time and devises another plan on the
same day. In order to make Ashley repent his actions, Scarlett decides to marry Charles
Hamilton. Even though Ashley stayed true to his word and never exemplified anger
towards Scarlett, she still refuses to take no for an answer. After the war, Scarlett tries to
persuade Ashley to run away with her, only to have her offer rejected yet another time. In
spite of these setbacks, she remains determined and unrelenting. Furthermore, Scarlett s
will to survive and the arduous efforts on her part support that she is a determined
character. After the gruesome trek from Atlanta to Tara, Scarlett visits the Wilkes in hope
to find some victuals and
Macromolecules, Enzymes And Cellular Structures
Module two presented three main concepts: biological molecules, enzymes, and cellular
structures. A biological molecule is an organic molecule composed of two or more
atoms that are bound together by a chemical bond. The organic molecules discussed in
this module were carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and vitamins. Carbohydrates are
hydrophilic molecules meaning that they can dissolve in water. They are made up of
sugars, starches, and fibers. Sugars are the simplest form of a carbohydrate, and can bind
together through covalent bonds to make the more complex starches and fibers. The
binding of these multiple sugar units makes a macromolecule that is referred to as a
polymer. Lipids are hydrophobic molecules meaning that they cannot dissolve in water.
They are classified as triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, and fatty acids. They are
what we commonly refer to as fats and oils. Proteins are polymers that are made up of
multiple amino acids bound together by covalent bonds. Vitamins are essential nutrients
which the body cannot synthesize, so the vitamins must be consumed in the diet. There
are two types of vitamins: water soluble vitamins and lipid soluble vitamins. The names
of these types of vitamins are give due to the substance... Show more content on

Enzymes are biological catalyst that are made up of proteins. Each type of enzyme
can only function in its specific reaction, and enzymes work best in their optimal pH
and temperature range. There are two types of reactions that were discussed in which
enzymes are involved. The first type of reaction is a catabolic reaction. A catabolic
reaction uses enzymes to break the covalent bond in a polymer resulting in smaller
monomers as the product. The second type of reaction is an anabolic reaction. In an
anabolic reaction, the monomer or substrate binds to the active site of an enzyme where
a covalent bond is formed, thus producing a
Animal Adaptation Of Homeostasis
If the pH of the blood of all human beings on earth was not maintained a crisis would
occur. Organisms use homeostasis to maintain a necessary blood pH. Homeostasis is a
process where internal conditions are maintained for survival. If homeostasis is not
successful death may occur. Many times homeostasis occurs due to a concentration
gradient. Also, the composition of fluids outside the cell must be kept stable in order to
maintain homeostasis. The regulation of the blood pH occurs in order to keep a stable
acid base condition. Many effects will occur if the blood pH is not maintained therefore
there is multiple adaptations helping to maintain it. Many conditions result if blood pH
is not maintained. If the pH of the blood becomes too acidic... Show more content on

All of these factors influence the pH. For example, over exercising causes the Ph of
the blood to drop due to an increase of H+ ions in the blood. Casiday and Frey write
that the production and removal of CO2 and H+, together with the use and transport
of O2, cause chemical changes in the blood (Casiday and Frey 2008). If the pH gets
too low, there can be very serious problems. For example, many reactions especially
with proteins(enzymes) are pH dependent and if the pH drops below 6.8 death may
occur. In order to maintain a constant pH the kidneys, the lungs and buffers dissolved
into the blood are needed. For instance, the carbonic acid bicarbonate buffer helps to
maintain the pH necessary for certain functions to
Wicked By Gregory Maguire Character Traits
Frex s character, in Gregory Maguire s book, Wicked is described as a charlatan.
Maguire creates a complex character in Frex, who is a minister that misleads people
by getting them to believe in something that is untrue. He also uses connotation for
setting stronger words that impact his descriptions towards Frex. Maguire also creates
a complex character for Elphaba, who is described as peculiar, or strange and doesn t
seem at all like a normal person. Many things make Frex a charlatan. For instance, his
own wife Melina says to their daughter on page 32 : Your father is a charlatan. A
charlatan is someone who is dishonest or a fraud. Instead of saying: Your father is a
fraud, Maguire chooses the word charlatan because although both words mean are
similar, charlatan is stronger and has a more negative impact towards Frex. Another...

For instance, on pages 19 20 it says: ... the infant glistened a scandalous shade of green
emerald...an undeniable green cast to the skin. Most babies aren t born green, and
even more shocking, Elphaba bites off the fishwife s finger with her unbelievably
sharp teeth. On page 20 it states : The child bit the finger off at the second knuckle.
This is also unusual because most babies don t have teeth, especially razor sharp ones.
Even later in the book, it states that as a child, Elphaba bit everything she saw. Another
strange thing about Elphaba was that she seemed to avoid water at all costs. On page
113 it states: Elphaba always recoiled, flinching if she was caught by even the
scattering of drops. Also, on page 185, Fiero asks if there was something to drink and
Elphaba responds: I don t have running water. I don t use it. This shows that Elphaba is
peculiar because normal people need water to live and use it in their everyday lives to
drink, cook, and and bathe. On the other hand, Elphaba is very resistant to come in
contact with water, almost as if she was

In the movie, there are signs saying either no prawns or no humans and the humans
show a major sign of xenophobia towards the prawns. In this day in age we see a lot of
hatred towards foreigners, in particular, terrorists. In the beginning of the movie you see
Blomkamp interviewing the humans about the prawns. They show a great level of hatred
and disgust for the prawns intruding on their town. In the real world, we see this same
form of hatred or disgust from certain people about the immigrants and refugees intruding
on and taking over many American s jobs. Blomkamp wants to push the issue that there
is great hatred throughout the world today. The main reason he produced the film in
Johannesburg was because there were high tensions between native south Africans and
Zimbabwean refugees. He wanted to try to make the town he grew up in great again.
Blomkamp wanted to open people s eyes with the use of science fiction to show that in
some ways we treat other humans like the humans treated the prawns.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Job Analysis
Job analysis is a broad term commonly used to describe a wide variety of systematic
procedures for examining, documenting, and drawing inferences about work activities,
worker attributes, and work context (Siddique, 2004). In light of recent workplace
changes that devalue traditional conceptions of rigidly defined jobs, the broader term,
work analysis, is sometimes supported. However, there are three different types of job
analysisand they are job requirements, competency based, and rewards (Siddique,
2004). Furthermore, job requirements job analysis is the most commonly used by
organizations. It seeks to identify and describe specific tasks, KSAO s, and job context
for a particular job (Siddique, 2004). The main purpose is to use this particular
information to create a right fit between job and employee, recruiting, determining salary
ranges and levels or grades, establishing job titles, creating employee s job goals and
objectives, and conducting performance reviews. Nonetheless, job requirements can also
be used for career planning, creating reasonable accommodations, and meeting legal
requirements for compliance purposes (Siddique, 2004). Consequently, there are some
advantages and disadvantages to this type of job analysis. Some advantages include
providing first hand job related information, helps in creating right job employee fit,
helps in establishing effective hiring practices, and helps in analyzing training and
development needs (Siddique, 2004).
Why General Patton Won The Battle Of The Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge between Nazi Germany and the Allies, which took place on
December 16, 1944, was very important in WWII.A quarter of a million German troops
launched a surprise offensive through the heavily wooded and most lightly defended
sector of the Allied line. This battle became the greatest land battle ever fought by
American troops in the 20th century. The German objective was to break through this
weakly held allied line to capture the vital supply port of Antwerp. Nazi Germans
plannedtheoperation well. Allied intelligence had noinformation about theGerman

Opportunities come with risks. The willingness to accept prudent risk is often the key
to exposing enemy weaknesses. 6General Patton was always very demanding of his
troops.General Patton did not accept prudent risk very well for the Battle of the
Bulge. His extraordinarydemandsresulted in many casualties. Success is also really
demanding in warfare. General Patton s demands led to the winningof the Battle of the
Bulge. General Patton took the risk to continue his forces movement in such bad
weather without out any rest and then the whole force was counterattacked by the
Germans across the III Corps line of advance to Bastogne. This resulted in heavy tank
losses and, in some cases, compelled a temporary withdrawal. General Pattonaccepted
responsibility. It is probably my fault, because I had been insisting on day and night
attacks. This is all right on the first day or second day of the battle and when we had the

difficult for armored outfits to operate at night.
The Attendant Members Of Justin s Rugby Team
Following the presentation of the key, the attendant members of Justin s rugby team
performed Ka Mate, the Haka, or dance, made famous by the New Zealand All Blacks.
The young men from his rugby club arranged themselves into a semi circle two rows
deep of about eight per row, and behind them a further twenty or so male and female,

and some body movements with hand trills that mesmerize, eyes that protrude, and head
tilted to the side. In contemporary haka women can be seen performing... Show more

Maori hangi provided the meal for the celebration. The hangi uses steam to slowly
cook the food. A pit large enough to accommodate the wire baskets which held the
food was dug in the ground and firewood was heaped up next to the pit. Stones were
placed within the heap. The fire was then set and the burning wood took about three
hours to heat the stones. When the stones where white hot they were transferred to the
bottom of the pit and a damp sack was laid on the rocks and the wire baskets were
placed on top of the damp sack. More sacks were put on top of the baskets and the
whole lot was quickly covered in soil to prevent the stones cooling. The food baskets
were prepared with individual meal portions wrapped in foil. Chicken, lamb, pork and
beef were the meat options with vegetables included kumara, potato, pumpkin, cabbage
and fresh salads. A dessert of steam pudding was also cooked in the hangi. After three
and a half hours the hangi was uncovered and served. The men were primarily
responsible for the cooking of the hangi itself while the women prepared the food. A
short prayer thanking the creator for the abundance of food was given by the Justin s

This structure regulates the import and export to maintain homeostasis condition inside the cell. (Knox et al., 2014) The plasma membrane is referred as a fluid mosaic which also has selective permeability. The permeability of the membrane can be varied depending on the external conditions. (Mitchel, 2015) The aim of this investigation was to determine the effect of ethanol on the membrane permeability using Beta vulgaris. Beta vulgaris contains red pigments called betalain sequestered in vacuoles. The cell membrane is generally impermeable to betalain as this pigment is relatively large and cannot pass through the membrane by diffusion. (123HelpMe.com, 2015) However, by increasing the permeability of the cell membrane, betalain can leach out of the cell and colour the liquid red. The colour intensity of the solution due to leakage of betalain is proportional to the membrane permeability. To quantify the colour intensity, the light absorbance of the solutions containing a Beta vulgaris cube were measured by a spectrophotometer. These measurements were used to analyse the membrane permeability. (Flinders University, 2015) According to another study, plasma membranes becomes more fluid and permeable when exposed to a higher

WEAA, the public radio station over the years had become disorganized and its organizational structure weak, leading to disobedience and lack of commitment from its volunteer employees. When a long standing radio host resigned and threatened to take her segment and its rights with her, Fiske knew that possible disaster loomed for the organization and needed to make serious changes to ensure the continued success and at the same time development and rebuilding of a once thriving station. WEAA a non profit, National Public Radio (NPR) affiliated station that served the Baltimore market, opened in August 1977. The station known for playing jazz grew in popularity over the years even winning the acclaimed title of Jazz Station of the Year in 1999 by Gavin Magazine. In 2000, 2002, and 2005 the Citypaper newspaper even named WEAA the best radio station in Baltimore. Despite the popularity of the station, executive management realized the organization was not living up to its full potential due to a lack of a robust organizational infrastructure in addition to a negative culture. Determined to have the radio station raise its market potential, they hired Fiske in August of 2006 to act as a change agent. In fact, if we condensed the entire history of the earth into a 1 year period it would show that humans would only have existed in its final hour. Over these billions of years plant and animal remains have decayed from exposure to heat and pressure to form natural deposits of fossil fuels (Science Daily). There are 3 types of fossil fuels that we use today. Oil, coal, and natural gasmake up the majority of our energy source. These resources have been developing in the earth s crust for billions of years before humans came into existence. Without fossil fuels the world would not be where it is today. The purpose of this paper is to explain the fundamentals of each fossil fuel, the advantages and disadvantages of using fossil fuels as an energy source, and how they shape the world we live in today. Non Renewable Energy Fossil fuels are one of the hot topics of the modern world. Perhaps the biggest problem we face today is the shortage of fossil fuels, and the lack of new energy sources to replace them. Fossil fuels are considered non renewable. Oil, coal, and natural gas have revolutionized the world we live in. These fossil fuels have ignited an economic and social boom that has never been seen before. It has allowed industrialization to grow the population exponentially. In 1875, just before the first industrial revolution, the world s population was roughly 1.325 billion.

Directly after May s death, a service is held. Kidd writes, First thing Wednesday morning, August 5, a black hearse pulled up in the driveway, and four men in dark suits lifted out May s casket and brought it right into the parlor. When I asked August why May was coming through the front door in her coffin, she said, We re gonna sit with her till she s buried (Kidd 200). May is brought back to her house so loved ones can sit with her to pay their final respects. The funeral helps to allow family and friends to receive closure and lessen any remaining guilt. This is important to provide closure. Contrasting this, in The Book Thief, Liesel s brother, Werner, was buried quickly with hardly any ceremony. Zusak writes, For Liesel, the town was nameless, and it was there that her brother, Werner, was buried two days later. Witness included a priest and two shivering grave diggers (Zusak 22). The ceremony given to Werner was very simple. In fact, one might call it rushed. Even his sister does not know the town of the burial. The significants of this is that Liesel s guilt over his death can no longer be lessened. Without a proper burial to insure closure, Liesel will forever feel guilty over Werner being dead while she is alive. The differences of the funerals for the characters buried reflect on the characters influence over others in The Book Thief and The Secret Life of

To discuss the value of liberal education, there should be a mutual understanding that investing in college means to invest in oneself. Furthermore, while some consider this investment to be a critical stepping stone to success, others dismiss it, explaining that school simply cannot prepare someone for the real world. Sanford J. Ungar and Robert Reich explore both of these subjective values in their essays The New Liberal Artsand College is a Ludicrous Waste of Money. Ungar, the president of Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, discusses why a liberal education should be sought after; he does so by introducing common misconceptions about liberal arts and, using argumentative persuasion, proves their insignificance. On the other hand, Reich, the former secretary of labor, argues against the conventional belief of college being the only road to financial wellbeing; rather, he explains why a two year education may better accommodate many college students, especially those in need of immediate work or those that simply cannot afford a four year education. In all, although both Reich and Ungar generally discuss liberal education, their perspectives differ when it comes to its practicality in the current economy. Also, to express their different views about liberal arts, the authors use contrasting tones to present their ideas to different intended audiences. In order to analyze the given arguments, one must identify the intended audiences. Ungar explores many ideas,

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social media may appear to be irrelevant here at first, however social media is actually again at the core of this issue because social media can often act as a safe haven for those who are socially ostracized because it connects those who are in similar situations together. This is especially problematic in terms of both the integrity of identity and purpose as well the person s own future even if they never discovery their purpose because this new community would both further confused their sense of identity and purpose but also integrate and validate ideas and values of others which potentially resulted in their social exile. Christianity s focus on salvation and its evangelism is absolutely vital to pulling people out and preventing them from ever being trapped in this echo chamber because the two combined offer those who have been ostracized a way back even though the rest of society has written them off as failures. This, if successful, brings those who are most vulnerable or have already fallen victim to social media at varying levels towards individual development of identity and purpose without the dangers of social media. This development of identity and purpose is supported by the sense of community brought from the fact that many of those around you had also suffered but had found salvation through the same means. However, this may seem to be more of the original problem that contributed to the confusion of identify and purpose however the Christian community is bound together by a shared forgiveness of their past misdeeds so as to move on and continue to develop identity and purpose whereas these types of social media communities are only bound together by a collective,

Some of these roles consist of listening to the citizens, providing safety and controlling the money aspect of the country. The purpose of government is to provide safety, control the money of the country and listen to the citizens because throughout history it has been proven that they have been the most crucial and effective parts of a government. Throughout history the way of government has been perceived very differently, from John Locke to Adolf Hitler everyone has their own opinion of how government should work. John Locke said that government needs to provide services and offer protections which has been known as the social contract. (Why Government 1). Another philosopher, Thomas Hobbes also stated that he thought that one of the government s main purposes was to provide protection for the citizens rights. (Why Government 2). Adolf Hitler s idea of government on the other hand was way more diverse than any other philosopher. His idea was to eliminate all Jews and communists from his country (Germany), then build up a military to try and restore Germany which required him to basically turn Germany into a dictatorship. The methodology describes the broad scheme or plan of the research and elaborates the tools of analysis. A methodology or a research design refers to approaches and research strategies, e.g. surveys; questionnaires etc. In a broader context methodology refers to a design whereby, the researcher selects data and analysis procedures to investigate a specific research problem (Cohen, Manion and Morrison; 2008). Research designs have been classified differently by different scholars. Some scholars (Bodgan Biklen, 1982) discuss research methods under two broad headings: qualitative and quantitative. Gay (1987) indicates that while naturalistic researcher prefer qualitative methods, such as participant observation and in depth interviewing, rationalistic researchers tend to use quantitative methodologies such as random selection of subjects and administration of standardized instruments. While qualitative studies focus on subjective information, such as feelings, experiences or opinions: data that cannot be scientifically quantified. Quantitative research is the opposite, shunning subjectivity in favor of objectivity. Quantitative research focuses on statistics and quantifiable information. The present research is both qualitative and quantitative in nature as it involves in depth analysis of the textbook content as well as questionnaire which has both open

In 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut endured a tragedy that carries historical significance to the notion of shielding those inside of a classroom in a worst case situation. When twenty six students had their life taken away during a school massacre, the thought of permitting teachers to carry handguns during class drew more consideration than ever. The safety of the students inside of a school facility may be in jeopardy as manifested in school shootings such as the ones which transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Virginia Tech, where thirty two students and teachers lost their lives (History.com). While many feel that presenting teachers with handguns may prove harmful to safety efforts, inflicting such standards would provide instructors and students equally with enhanced protection and overall security. Imagine being in the family s shoes when hearing through media reports that their child was killed in a school shooting. If teachers had the option of being equipped with the handguns, then that child (and the rest in the classroom) would have survived. How many more times are we going to learn about a deranged gunman walking into a school loaded and ready to kill? How many more innocent children need to die before we wake up and give our teachers the prospect to fight back? The only resolution is to grant our teachers a fighting chance. A biological molecule is an organic molecule composed of two or more atoms that are bound together by a chemical bond. The organic molecules discussed in this module were carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and vitamins. Carbohydrates are hydrophilic molecules meaning that they can dissolve in water. They are made up of sugars, starches, and fibers. Sugars are the simplest form of a carbohydrate, and can bind together through covalent bonds to make the more complex starches and fibers. The binding of these multiple sugar units makes a macromolecule that is referred to as a polymer. Lipids are hydrophobic molecules meaning that they cannot dissolve in water. They are classified as triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, and fatty acids. They are what we commonly refer to as fats and oils. Proteins are polymers that are made up of multiple amino acids bound together by covalent bonds.
