Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
Leading theories suggest a possible role for a hypersensitive central nervous system,
immune dysfunction and impaired detoxification by liver enzymes. However some
medical professionals, and even organizations, continue to insist that the syndrome is
psychological in origin, even in the face of a growing amount of evidence from studies
that show clear abnormalities in people with MCS on exposure to normally safe levels of
chemicals. The expression multiple chemical sensitivity has been used to describe
individuals with numerous troubling sensitivities that are attributed to environmental
factors. Wikipedia defines this phenomenon as Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) or
idiopathic environmental intolerances (IEI) (A term The World Health Organisation
proposed in 1996) is a disputed chronic medical condition and syndrome characterized by

confusion, and nervous tension in children. Despite MCS been discussed and debated for
decades, the fact that individuals exhibit different symptoms divides medical opinion.
Some physicians are convinced of this phenomenon whilst others are awaiting further
conclusive evidence. The prevailing scientific viewpoint is that although some people are
sensitive to small amounts of one or a few specific chemicals, there is no general
hypersensitivity to chemicals. Scientifically oriented allergists, psychiatrists and
occupational health clinicians suspect that the majority of MCS (Multiple Chemical
Sensitivity) patients suffer from psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety
reactions and somatization (bodily reactions to stress). This opinion is being increasingly

Uglow, Jenny. William Hogarth: A Life and a World. Faber Faber, 2011. Jenny Uglow
s masterpiece chronicles the life of William Hogarth, one of the greatest illustrators in
history. The book leads the reader on a journey of Hogarth s birth, early life, entry into
art and his eventual maturity as an artist. It explains that William Hogarth s birth took
place in the United Kingdom in November of the year 1697. He was the son of an
uneventful writer and schoolmaster from Westmoreland. In the early years of his
adulthood, William Hogarth was an apprentice of a goldsmith. By the year 1710
William began producing his engraved projects (Uglow 23). Later on in his life, William
Hogarth began oil painting where he began by painting small portraits groups named
conversation prices . Motivated by the previous projects, William Hogarth proceeded with
more projects that contained satirical paintings. The paintings mocked modern customs
inspired by early Italian prints. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On October 26 of the year 1764, William Hogarth passed on. William Hogarth s final
resting point was in the yard of St Nicholas church near his birthplace. William
Hogarth memory lives as people consider him the father of moral portraits and satirical
caricatures. It is this genre that later developed into cartoons. Many also remember
William Hogarth as one of the most innovative artists of his time due to his stout middle
class values and his determination. By the time of his demise, William Hogarth had
introduced art to the ordinary man for the first time in modern civilization. William
Hogarth believed that art should uphold both aesthetic qualities as well as have ethics.
As a result, William Hogarth tried to apply the two policies into all of his
Advanced Practice Nurse Implications. Spiritual Assessment
Advanced Practice Nurse Implications
Spiritual assessment and care of a patient at each medical or psychiatric appointment is
an essential aspect of providing adequate care by all NPs. To be able to do so, NP must
understand that spirituality and religiosity are not synonymous. Unlike the concept of
religion, which defined by the online Oxford dictionary (2017) as The belief in a
worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods,
spirituality holds various definitions depending on whom you ask. According to Taylor
(2002; who credits Reed [1992]) ...spirituality refers to that part of being human that

578). de Vries suggests that humility is mysterious and eludes literal interpretation
therefore it is not possible to identify, or grasp, in its entirety the phenomenon of
humility (p. 578). Equally, Castledine (2011) states, The trouble with humility is that it
is a very humble virtue to have and one that cannot be easily rated in the same way as
other values in life (p. 527). Likewise, Srokosz (2013) suggests, humility is difficult to
define and a clear scientific understanding of humility does not exist yet (p. 103).
Similarly, Crigger and Godfrey (2010) review of literature offer two reasons for the
lack of scholarly interests in humility : (a) original meaning of the term humble, narrow
sense of having a low estimation of one s self and being of little value, the notion of
humility conflicts with modern conceptions of the self and (b) its religious affiliation
may also dampen the benefit of acquiring or nursing humility, particularly in the US
culture... (p. 311 312).
Notwithstanding, de Vries (2004) examined humility by applying qualitative approach
in order to explore the following two objectives: (a) To describe how washing feet is a
participatory experience, and (b) To describe how the experience of washing feet can
change the relationship between nurse and patient (p. 580). Utilizing a sample size of
seven post registered nurses as participants de Vries concludes
Gilmore Girls Mother Daughter Relationship
As an avid television viewer, it has always been easy to connect with certain shows
based on the characters. For some they become so dedicated to these characters and these
shows that a fandom through mediated text is formed. Gilmore Girls, a show that ended
many years ago, continues to inspire many. With its quick and witty humor it is no
surprise that many personalities quickly become admirers of the show. The humor and
story lines are not the main reason for the creation of such a large fan community. Instead
the relationships and it s ability to break through televisionnorms draws in the attention of
several individuals and families. Today Gilmore Girls fans continue to blog, tweet, and

When looking through these blogs and accounts it becomes apparent that it is mostly
females rewriting the story, Jenkins explains, The practice of fan writing, the compulsion
to expand speculations about characters and story events beyond textual boundaries,
draws heavily upon the types of interpretive strategies more common to the feminine
than to the masculine (7). This phenomenon can explain why fans never changed the
mother daughter relationship of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. This mother daughter
relationship inspires many families especially mothers and daughters to develop the
same close nit friendship as the Gilmore Girls. One fan states I was excited that I was
finally able to connect with a mother daughter relationship on television (My Mom and I

children having separate relationships and when they were seen together it was very
forced. These blogs allow women to connect not only about this relationship but also their
own relationships with their
Mexico Business Cycle
Mexico s Business Cycle
The term business cycle or economic cycle refers to the fluctuations of economic
activity around its long term growth trend. It involves shifts over time between periods
of relatively rapid growth of output recovery and prosperity, and periods of relative
stagnation or decline contraction or recession. These fluctuations are often measured
using real gdp.
Despite being termed cycles, these fluctuations in economic growth and decline do not
follow a purely mechanical or predictable periodic pattern. In recent years economic
theory has moved towards the study of economic fluctuation rather than a business cycle .
Some economists believe calling the business cycle a cycle to be a misnomer, because of

Since the nature of the financing flows to Mexico were short run, the vulnerability of the
economy increased due to these adverse shocks, resulting in capital outflows and a
collapse of the exchange rate and output. 1995 99 saw a recovery of the economy after
the implementation of an IMF supported adjustment program including support schemes
for the banking industry, a floating exchange rate, the tightening of monetary policy,
fiscal consolidation and restrained income policies. This resulted in an improvement of
the economic situation and real gdp grew at about 5% per year.
Examining of the occurrences in these periods can assist in identifying possible sources

Why I Want To Be An Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on
my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels
responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to
take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a
member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with
great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men
around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to
become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first
informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also
learn from them. They each have strong leadership characteristics that allow them to
serve on executive boards across campus and they all are high achieving students at
Cornell. Coming from an all male high school in Chicago, mentors were a limited

ones that would come around. Fortunately for myself, members of Alpha Phi Alpha
would make it their duty to come visit us every two weeks to speak about going to
college and how to best manage ourselves. Senator Mr. Roland Burris is the name... Show

member. They are always giving one hundred percent to everything that they do. They

Protests In Iran Essay

Protests have engulfed several cities in Iran

Middle East and AfricaJan 2nd 2018
INCREDIBLY, religious hardliners may have started the protests that have spread across
Iran. Preachers in Mashhad, Iran s second city and a stronghold of the clerical regime,
called their followers onto the streets on December 28th to protest against rising prices,
most recently of eggs. Many of those who turned out supported Ebrahim Raisi, a

Thousands are still spending the winter in temporary shelters. Tehran has faced protests
by customers of informal financial institutions, many associated with the IRGC, who lost
their life savings when the institutions went bust. Factory workers and pensioners say
they have not been paid for months. Mr Rouhani s government trumpets falling inflation
and economic growth, but youth unemployment has risen to 27%, the prices of some
basic goods have soared and inequality is growing.
We don t want an Islamic republic, chant the protesters. Also, Death to the
Revolutionary Guards and People are paupers while the mullahs live like gods. But in
contrast to 2009 they are not lining up with reformists against hardliners they are
wishing a plague on both their houses and bashing all pillars of the regime with rarely
voiced venom. No to conservatives and reformers alike, is another popular slogan. Some
have wondered aloud why the regime is spending the country s wealth to support militant
groups in Yemen, Lebanon and Palestine, and a blood soaked dictator in Syria. Leave
Syria, remember us, is another oft heard chant.
Iran s rulers still hope they can assuage the anger. We urge senior authorities of the
Islamic Republic to revise the country s macro policies and hear people s voices, said
the Assembly of Qom Seminary s Teachers and Scholars, a powerful caucus of Shia
clerics whose ranks fill the theocratic regime.
Benedict Vs Beowulf Research Paper
The Rule of St. Benedict and Beowulf could not be more different texts. Beowulf is the
epic story of a warrior turned king who kills monsters while grappling with his
mortality. The Rule of St. Benedict was written as a how to for other monks to follow
when founding their own monasteries. While one is meant to be loudly performed by a
bard to drunken warriors, the other is meant for quiet reflection by one abbot. Yet through
these disparate genres, similar values emerge. Both The Rule and Beowulfglorify the
ideal of a brotherhood working under the watch of one leader.
It is not a coincidence that two separate cultures developed such a similar dependence.
Both the monks in Benedict s monastery and the warriors in Hrothgar s mead hall are
only barely sustainable. The warriors are facing daily attacks from monsters and the
monks spend every possible moment in prayer to keep sin at bay. These civilizations are

His rank is heavenly, he is to hold the place of Christ in the monastery, (pg. 21) and is

has been entrusted in the abbot, who is expected to lead with dignity, compassion, and

excommunicated monk, Let him take his food alone in a time and amount the abbot

The Boston Massacre Essay
The Boston Massacre was and is still a debatable Massacre. The event occurred on
March 5, 1776. It involved the rope workers of the colonial Boston and two British
regiments, the twenty ninth and the fourteenth regiments. Eleven people were shot in
the incident; five people were killed and the other six were merely wounded. The
soldiers and the captain, Thomas Preston, were all put on trial. All were acquitted of
charges of murder, however the two soldiers who fired first, Private Mathew Killroy,
and Private William Montgomery, the two soldiers were guilty of manslaughter. The
causes were numerous for this event. There had been a nation wide long term dislike
towards the British, and a growing hatred towards them by the people of Boston.... Show

The Loyal Nine did a little bit of a recruiting job before taking their actions to the
streets. They got the north and south end gangs to unite and work for them. These two
groups for years had taken place in a bloody battle each November fifth in order to
celebrate Pope s Day. The convincing of radicals like Sam Adams, to fight the tyranny of
the English instead of each other, brought the groups together. The leader of the new
united gang of northerners and southerners was Ebenezer MacIntosh, the previous leader
of the south end gang. MacIntosh, a shoemaker, fought in the French and Indian war, and
also had fought against poverty practically his whole life.
The Stamp Act caused a number of riots to break out; the Loyal Nine and their gang
conducted these riots. The first riot was directed toward Andrew Oliver, an aristocrat
and a wealthy merchant. He was also the brother in law of the lieutenant governor of
Boston, Thomas Hutchinson. Oliver, and others alike were to benefit from the Stamp
Act. The Loyal nine hung an image of Oliver from the liberty tree. Bostonians awoke to
this effigy on August 14, 1765. There was a sign on the doll, which read, What greater

The Voyage of Christopher Columbus
American History I 07/08/05 Christopher Columbus Voyage to North America Spanish
exploration first began with a series of revolutions. First, the Commercial Revolution
generated economic stability. Second, the Intellectual Revolution generated interest in
the Earth s composition and the pursuit of exploration. Europe then called for a political
revolution to end the disorganized and disorderly rule of its government. This revolution
returned order and stability to the government and renewed interest in exploration to
search for national wealth. The last of these revolutions was the religious revolution
(note Columbus voyage occurred before this revolution). As more people broke away

Afterwards, Columbus then went to Lisbon, Spain a year later where he would
propose the voyage to King Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castile. When
Columbus made a friend in Father Perez, it was a turning point for him. He was able
to gain support from converts who believed in his cause. Ferdinand and Isabella were
harder to convince, however. They found little interest in Columbus curiosity as they
were preoccupied with defending themselves against the Moors. Later in 1491,
Columbus again appears before Ferdinand and Isabella who apparently liked and
respected the determined seaman (38) 1. Although they had admiration for
Columbus, his plans for voyage were again rejected, partially because of his request to
titles and riches. It seems that Columbus gave but scant and unsatisfactory information
to the commission, probably through fear that his ideas might be improperly made
use of and he be robbed of the glory and advantages that he expected to derive from his
project (2) 2. But Columbus was not yet discouraged, for he was a gentleman of great

campaigns of fostering national consciousness and inspiring a strong sense of militancy
in the Nigerian people s liberation struggle (Aluede, 1995; Babatope, 1974). Babatope
(1974) and Onwuejeogwu (1991) note that the students union was born and nurtured in
the womb of colonial protest. Hence student unionism was more of a protest union rather
than student union, which was aimed at far reaching changes in the society. One incident
of student unrest in 1960 was essentially due to students dissatisfaction with government
insensitivity to national issues, and its inability to address them appropriately. Nigerian

How Did Thomas Aquinas Influence
The Worldwide Influence of St. Thomas Aquinas Thomas Aquinas was born in the year
1225 into an incredibly Catholic family in a small town in Italy. As Thomas Aquinas
grew up, he was very smart and was very interested in the catholic faith and philosophy
and ultimately became a teacher of all these things. Thomas Aquinasproved that he was
an important historical figure over his life time by being a leader in the Catholic Church,
writing The Summa and spreading his beliefs.

One of Thomas Aquinas s greatest accomplishments was his book called The Summa,
this helped create his place in history because it was one of the first books by a
philosopher proving God s existence. Summa was written for the common people by
Thomas Aquinas to help the readers understand that the religion is reasonable. The
book also takes Thomas Aquinas researches of philosophy and bring them into his
religious beliefs. The book was written sometime around 1265 1272. In The Summa,
Thomas Aquinas basically talked about how there is no reason why not to believe in
god. He made statements that showed there IS evidence into believing in god but no
evidence not to believe in god. The summa is divided into 3 chapters in which Thomas
Aquinas gave different sets of evidence. The first summa is the fact that Thomas
Aquinas believed in God s existence. In the Summa, Thomas Aquinas says, God wills
good to every being which exists and loves them. Together making love the common
denominator of God to the world. Statements like this in the first summa were referring
to the fact that god helps everyone and it brings out the best love in them. The second
summa was all about ethics and how people should act. Aquinas based a lot of his
information of of the information of a man he studied for years, Aristotle. Aristotle was

Internet Dating Essay
Title : Internet Dating: Should or Should Not? Stand : Should Not Specific purpose :
To convince my audience that internet dating brings lots of danger. In the world we
live in today some people rely on the internet in order to find love. But online dating
isn t all that it s cracked up to be. In fact, you should stay away from it. Dating online is
not safe. Sure there are some dating sites that are legitimate and a little less dangerous,
but some people rely on facebook, myspace, and instant messaging for dating which is
just plain wrong. Not only is it unpersonal, but you can never tell who you re really

It is so addictive. So, in essence, it does something it does something for your ego that
is very false. We have seen how internet dating can be so addictive, and now let s take a
look how it can also rise almost all fake and false profile. People do not always tell you
the truth. People may give you a photograph that is ten years old when they take the
best photograph that they ever have, or a touched up photograph which is not really
them. Not all sites require a photo, and even those that do cannot guarantee that the
photo is a real one. Clear signs that the photo may be a fake are strange backgrounds
that might indicate a stock image, photos that appear professionally taken (unless the
person is a model or actor) and photos that seem old rather than current. Profiles can be
false or partially false as some people attempt to make themselves sound as appealing
to others and take it too extremes. Last but not least, the other disadvantage of internet
dating is expensive fees. Expensive fees. While online dating may at first seem
cheaper than real world dating (no need to pay for drinks or cab rides), the truth is that
most matchmaking sites charge a fee. Some Internet dating sites charge far too much
money and some will not allow us to view the profiles of other people until we become
a member and pay the fees. This fee may not be all inclusive, and extras sometimes add
up. Some websites
Emotional Trauma In All Quiet On The Western Front
Similar to the convergence of physical issues, the soldiers had a similar emotional
trauma experienced. The mass death that was a consequence of the physical carnage of
the war could easily lead to emotional distress due to the nature of death. Consider in All
Quiet on the Western Front when the soldiers had to seek protection in a graveyard when
heavy fire overtook them, what Paul thought about the event described the messed up
mental side of the soldiers regarding death(Remarque 65). Primarily, when trying to
escape the bombs and gas, and Paul had to hide in a coffin, he realized that the coffin
shall protect [Paul], thought death himself lies in it, (Remarque 67). This whole
statement can be analyzed as Paul coming to the understanding that the only way to...

If just the thought of what the soldiers endure would cause anxiety, one could imagine
how mentally draining war must be. An example of the draining nature of war is how
after Paul attacked adversary soldier named GГ©rard Duval, he certainly
comprehended how war had taxed his brain beyond endurance, (Remarque 225). So,
there was a major convergence between the German and Indian soldiers due to the
emotional trauma of war. But, while there are very strong connections between the
Indian and German soldiers through their correlated mental and physical trauma along
with their mass lack of awareness of the details of war prior to enlisting, there is some
divergence in the experiences of the soldiers. One of the divergences is money, but this
could just be a divergence between these specifically soldiers or it could be the differing
point on why these ordinary characters decided to fight for their empires. The German
soldiers in All Quiet on the Western Front are basically living in poverty when fighting in

Comparing Ancient Greek Architecture, Doric, And...
As the saying goes, great art is mad with its own loveliness. Over the decades, Greek
inspired architecture has been seen all over the world. Ideas are often borrowed while
constructing buildings, monuments, and even houses. Greeks mostly used wood,
limestone, unbaked bricks, terracotta and metal for construction. Most architecture were
inspired by religion, politics, and form of recreation. Of all designs from Greek
architecture three of them have withstood the test of time and their application can be
seen today. They include Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian order. However, each order is
distinct from the other and one cannot differentiate unless trained. This paper will look at
Doric and Corinthian orders while comparing and contrasting them. It will also trace their
prevalence and popularity throughout history.
Doric style of architecture has been the most famous. It is used all over the world
today. It is found in Parthenon and Acropolis and can be distinguished from other
orders as it has vertical column and a plain roof. Colonies of south Italy and Sicily have
also used it. Doric order is, however, the simplest. Roman Doric is the most common
form today. This column consists of around capitalwhich has a narrow neckband. It has a
shaft that may be plain or fluted and normally rest on a base. Its entablature is structured
to have a distinctive frieze with triglyphs which are an upright projecting grooved panel.
This triglyph is normally set in line with each column. There

William Blake rhymed the words deep and weep in line seven to emphasise and link
the feeling of loneliness the little boy had. Similarly, Seamus Heaney used The squat
pen rests; snug as a gun , using the reverse spelling of snug (with dropping the s ) to
write gun in the same line to emphasise the image of his pen being a weapon. The
squat pen rests; snug as a gun also shows great contrast with snug being a comfortable
and secure word while gun is a word that conjures up images of violence and war. This
type of negative, contrasted, imagery is used throughout Tichborne s Elegy to
emphasise loss. Charles Tichborne uses images such as my crop of corn is but a field
of tares which expresses that anything worthy of praise he once had, is now worth
nothing at all. Conceivably the poem the expresses the most sadness, Tichborne s Elegy
uses strong imagery that creates the air of grief surrounding the poem. An example of
this powerful imagery is the haunting refrain which is repeated throughout the poem at
the end of each stanza, And now I live, and now my life is done . At the time Charles
Tichborne wrote this poem, he knew he was going to be executed. This contrast
emphasises that though he
Assembling The Clarinet
The clarinet is a woodwind instrument that are typically used for orchestral bands, jazz
bands, and other genres of bands.
There are five pieces to the clarinet, the mouthpiece, barrel, upper joint, lower joint, and
the bell. Assembling a clarinet at first seems quite difficult because it has the most pieces

Dbq Alien And Sedition Acts
The Republicans were a political group led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
This political group felt that the government needed to remain small with less power
leaving the major decisions to the states and communities. The Republican supporters
were mainly farmers and rural communities who agreed that the state should have the
most power. These people felt that a strong central government may give the government
too much power and the states, not enough which would, in turn, lead to conflict. These
beliefs caused strife among the Federalists and the Republicans, especially in the national
government, but the Republicans eventually won and the Federalists faded out. The
Republicans wanted a weak central government. Along with opposition... Show more

During the years of Alexander Hamilton, many events occurred that divided Republicans
and Federalists. The Republicans disagreed with a national bank because they believed
that it would lessen their power and cause them to lose grip on the power they had.
Along with the national bank come the Alien and Sedition Acts. These acts had to do
with immigration and slander against the Federalists, but Republicans come out against
these acts stating Congress went above their powers. The Virginia and Kentucky
Resolutions argued against the Alien and Sedition Acts. All of these proposals from the
Federalists supported fears of the Republicans. The Republicans feared the Federalists
would gain too much power so therefore they wanted to keep a weak central
European Expansion Of Africa And The Americas
Africa and the Americas became the first areas of the world to experience significant
consequences from European expansion. Both experienced demographic and biological
changes, political confusions, and the introduction of new trade patterns, religions, and
technologies. (site). However the depth and extent of the European impact was also
totally different for each region. It is said that African was affected and the Americas
were transformed. The company of the European in Africamostly denoted trade. This
was trade in which slaves became something of value. Despite the large cloud that was
created of Africa due to the storms of slavery, most of the continent was unaffected. Areas
that were majorly affected by slavery seemed to even

Comparing Burgess and Draper s Theory of Family Violence and the Film, The Burning
Bed
I. Introduction
Burgess and Draper argue coercive patterns of family interaction represent the principal
causal pathway that connects ecological instability to violence within families. They
maintain this raises the possibility that some of the common correlates of such violence
are themselves reactions to sudden or chronic ecological instability. For example,
alcoholism, depression, and anxiety may be responses to ecological stresses in the
family, such as loss of employment, excessive financial debt, or divorce. Burgess and
Draper suggest that violence towards one s mate or children may consequently be a
direct result of ecological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Ohlin, 87)
Economic instability can also be a direct cause for child maltreatment. As resources
dwindle, Burgess and Draper suggest the survival of the fittest theory which implies
that if there is only enough food for three people and there are four members in a
household, it would be a waste to give the food to a member that is not economically
viable or unlikely to survive even with the food. This is a very barbaric principle and
does not reflect the cultural norms of today s American society. Undoubtedly, in some
places, this may occur but the maltreatment of the Hughes children did not come in this
form.
II. Emotional Reactions
As the social or family structure is changing, Burgess and Draper suggest a few common
feelings that men in particular may encounter. The first feeling is anxiety. Change brings
uncertainty especially if the person in question is not directly influencing the change.
Having someone inferior start a chain reaction that takes away direct control, can be
particularly debilitating to someone who has low self esteem. This is one of the most
common personality traits for abusers like Mickey Hughes. (Ohlin, 89)
Burgess and Draper also say that wife batterers have an intrusive style , easily angered,
display extreme jealousy, fear of abandonment and violent out busts in response to
personal loss of authority. (Ohlin,

She ll explore some of her feelings and attitudes more deeply. She is likely to discover
some hidden aspects of herself that she wasn t aware of previously. Feeling herself
prized by me, it is quite possible she ll come to prize herself more. Feeling that some of
her meanings are understood by me, then she can more readily perhaps listen to
herself, listen to what is going on within her own experience, listen to some of the
meanings she hasn t been able to catch before. And perhaps if she senses realness in
me, she ll be able to be a little more real within herself. I suspect there will be a change
in the manner of her expression, at least this has been my experience in other
instances. From being rather remote from her experiencing, remote from what is
going on within her, it s possible that she ll move toward more immediacy of
experiencing, that she will be able to sense and explore what is going on in her in the
immediate moment. From being disapproving of herself, it is quite possible she ll
move toward a greater degree of acceptance of herself. From somewhat of a fear of

more directly. From construing life in somewhat rigid black and white patterns, she may
move toward more tentative ways of construing her experience and of seeing
San Velazquez s Las Meninas

Diego VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas
Las Meninas by Diego VelГЎzquez is depicted as a group portrait of Spanish King
Philip IV (8 April 1605 17 September 1665) at the Habsburg court. The painting well
demonstrates VelГЎzquez s painting techniques that can be recognized by dramatic
mood, rich color and extreme contrast between light and dark. It is absolutely
extraordinary and implies influences VelГЎzquez has had, especially Flemish Baroque
realism. VelГЎzquez had a deeper ambition in his mind when creating this masterpiece.
He wanted to earn the title that can ensure him a high position in society. So, VelГЎzquez
had this desire for an aristocratic title better than any other single court positions he could
get.

. VelГЎzquez used refined techniques and composition so effectively to create this
masterpiece describing the presence of the royal family. To create such a high class art,
he emphasized his techniques and ability by reflecting reality in the painting. A clear and
description of the royal court, Las Meninas is a masterpiece that demonstrates both
VelГЎzquez s skill as a painter and the complexities of human intellectualism. The figures
are painted near life sized to show many things; overwhelming realism, complexities, and
symbolism.
The painting is oil on canvas completed in 1656. At first, the painting was called El

audience from the middle of the painting. Around her are two of the Queen s maids of
honor, Dona Maria Augustina on the left and Dona Isabel de Velasco on the right.
There are two older people behind the princess, Dona Marcela de Ulloa and Guarda

privilege by putting himself in the painting. All these people in the
The Government Inspector Play Analysis
What happens when government officials of a corrupt town mistakenly identify the
wrong individual as the state government inspector? The townsfolk being to panic while
the audience hysterically laughs along! The Fine Arts department of the University of
Portland present the production of The Government Inspector written by Nikolai Gogol
and directed by Andrew Golla. The production of The Government Inspector kicks off
this Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the Mago Hunt Theatre and ends the following
Sunday, November 19, 2017. The playbegins at 7:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday
and 2:00 pm on Sunday. Overall, The Government Inspector succeeds in breaking the
fourth wall, creating a comedic filled environment within the audience.
After hearing a rumor of an auditor coming to investigate their corrupt town, the
townsfolk go into a frenzy, attempting to fix their mistakes to pass inspection. Upon
hearing of the audits arrival, the townsfolk mistakenly identify Hlestakov, played by
Sawyer Hudson, as the inspector from St. Petersburg. The townsfolk, unaware of his real
identity, offer Hlestakov bribes, a place to stay, and the... Show more content on

Sawyer Hudson portrayed the character of Hlestakov perfectly, making me laugh with
the hotel mirror scene and especially the scene where he makes an impromptu poem
about Marya (played by Jen Bigoness). Hudsons portrayal of Hlestakov is sure none to
beat. In all honesty, his character brought out the inner Hlestakov within myself the
conceitedness and the weirdness. Mayor Anton Dumakhanovsky s (played by Emily
Hogan) anger towards the townsfolk and family actually makes the performance
exceptional. It reminded me of that feeling where you cannot really be serious with
someone who tries to act

Can Mobile Health Improve Nurses Clinical Workflow Process for Patient Admissions?
Introduction Mobile Health is defined at the mHealth Summit as any health related
service that is given using a hand held device or mobile type of communication (Torgan,
2009).
Mobile health (mHealth) technology made an appearance in the early 2000 s with the
personal digital assistant (PDA), most notably the Blackberry (Ventola, 2014). Since then,
the trend has grown remarkably. Experts predict that by 2015, over 500 million people
will be accessing health related applications from their smartphones (Mobile Medical,
2014; Malone, 2013). There are many types of mobile health products and serve a variety
of purposes. Applications can be used for diagnosing illness, digital imaging, monitoring
remotely for chronic disease (diabetes, heart disease), ECG viewers, telehealth, managing
prescriptions, appointments, reference materials (drug and ICD coding information),
diet, exercise, remote communication, dictation, surgical scheduling, voice, text, web
browsing, camera and sound, and global positioning (Chouffani, 2011; Ventola, 2014).

The Effects Of Environmental Impacts On The Environment
When it comes to our environment in today s day and age, citizens only seem to see it
becoming worse and worse. In fact, most would even say that the world is beyond saving
with all of the impact greenhouse gases and the human way of living is destroying our
ecosystems. But that couldn t be further from the truth! Today, we have plenty of efforts
in place attempting to reduce, and hopefully reverse, the negative effects on our
environment. The transportation industry, one of the largest contributors to CO2
emissions, is no exception. Amtrak, being the number one passenger rail system in
America, is making it an active goal to help preserve our planet. For instance, Amtrak
pays close attention to the level of carbon emissions that it contributes on both a
personal and overall scale. Just by traveling on Amtrak, instead of various other options,
you are choosing a mode a transportation that contributes less greenhouse gases. Amtrak
states that by riding on it instead of say a car or plane, there is as much as a thirty
percent increase in energy efficiency. Amtrak also offers CO2 offsets by allowing
passengers to buy back the amount of greenhouse gases that they personally added as a
natural result of their travel. Through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, Amtrak has
created a tool called the Rail Calculator which calculates the amount of carbon emissions
generated by the passenger s rail travel based on the distance that they traveled and then
compiles a price that the
Intervention Strategies To Caregive Workplace Stress
Stress Management Interventions One of the most common strategies to relieve
workplace stress is to implement an intervention. Within the literature, stress is reduced
or eliminated by using stress management interventions (SMIs) that can be used on two
types of levels: individual and organizational (Biggs et al., 2014a; Biron Karanika
Murray, 2014; Cheung et al., 2013; Dollard Gordon, 2014; Fridrich, Jenny, Bauer, 2016;
FГјllemann et al., 2015; Hoek et al., 2018; Hurst, Baranik, Daniel, 2013; Huss, 2012;
Li et al., 2017; Lloyd et al., 2017; Nägel et al., 2015; Pack, 2012; Von Humboldt et al.,
2013). There are benefits to using both SMIs depending on the situation and the amount

For example, individual SMIs that incorporates a strength based and empowerment
perspective for social work professionals as a self evaluation tool completed by
drawing a picture (Huss, 2012). This drawing is effective with social workers because it
allows them to access not only the stressful situation, but also their reactions, and their
coping skills (Huss, 2012). Another simple individual SMI is enjoying a leisure activity.
Nägel, Sonnentag, and Kühnel (2015) described how completing leisure activities
after a stressful day at work can promote a healthy well being. Exercising is the most
highly used leisure activity by many individuals. This type of activity promotes strength
and can decrease negative effects on physical health and sickness. Individual SMIs are
beneficial because it incorporates a strength based perspective, which allows social
workers to identify strengths and resources when dealing with their clients and for
themselves (Rice and Girvin,
Analysis Of Deliverance By James Dickey
I remember almost every day that I was in the war, and I think almost everything that I
ve done is influenced at least to some degree(...) by the fact that I was in the war
(Dickey). James Dickey wrote his novel Deliverance based off much of his own
experiences in war. In his novel, narrator Ed is in a predicament. He feels like life is
floating by without actually experiencing it. When his friend Lewis comes along and
offers him the canoe trip of a lifetime, Ed is all in. These two are joined by two other
city slickers to set off on an adventure that will change their lives. James Dickeywrote
this adventure with a different kind of experiencein mind. A participant in World War II,
the conflict was still fresh in his mind and this shows in the journey on the river. The
trip that these men take is eerily similar to the journey Dickey participates in throughout
the war. Leaving for the war and leaving for the canoe trip both elicit the same feelings
of excitement, doubt, and loss. The trials on the river include many of the same trials
people in war go through such as death and guilt. Finally, the return home both from war
and from the canoe trip both have negative impacts on the psyche. The men s obstacles in
their departure, encounters with adversity, and return home are a metaphor for the
struggles of war.
Dickey s motivations and feelings about going off to war resonate with Ed s feelings
about leaving on the canoe trip. Ed is at a point in his life where nothing
Aruba Description
Aruba is an island of amazing contrasts. Maximum individuals are acquainted with the
luxurious resorts set along white sand beaches. However, within just some miles of the
immaculate beaches and tranquil waters, there is a cosmic array of unique environs and
tourist sites, from the limestone cliffs and booming waves found at the California
Lighthouse to the strange rock formations of Ayo and Casibari. Many such places rest
along a dirt road that embraces the northern shore of Aruba, a place of natural splendor
and extraordinary Caribbeanviews. Rested on a hilltop at the island s northernmost point,
the California Lighthouse offers visitors some of the superlative views in Aruba. Though
the lighthouse is only a short drive from Oranjestad,
The Consequences Of Atomic Warfare
Further contrast towards these ideas is apparent in the modern societies of 2016. Nearly
every assault in the Middle East increases the threat of a radical uprising in adjacent
states. Imagine the consequences of an air attack , let alone an atomic bomb. Okuda asks
the perfect question relation to these topics, How can we avoid this type of warfare from
this point forward, whether carried out by nations or by individuals taking up weapons?
Thankfully, that question was answered shortly after the events of Japan. The United
Nations formed an official treaty preventing the Great Powers of the world from using
atomic warfare. Upon a violation, the nations partake in mutually assured destruction.
Nobody wins in this terrifying situation, but

  • 2. Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Leading theories suggest a possible role for a hypersensitive central nervous system, immune dysfunction and impaired detoxification by liver enzymes. However some medical professionals, and even organizations, continue to insist that the syndrome is psychological in origin, even in the face of a growing amount of evidence from studies that show clear abnormalities in people with MCS on exposure to normally safe levels of chemicals. The expression multiple chemical sensitivity has been used to describe individuals with numerous troubling sensitivities that are attributed to environmental factors. Wikipedia defines this phenomenon as Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) or idiopathic environmental intolerances (IEI) (A term The World Health Organisation proposed in 1996) is a disputed chronic medical condition and syndrome characterized by symptoms that the... In the 1940s, he declared that allergies cause fatigue, irritability, behavioural problems, depression, confusion, and nervous tension in children. Despite MCS been discussed and debated for decades, the fact that individuals exhibit different symptoms divides medical opinion. Some physicians are convinced of this phenomenon whilst others are awaiting further conclusive evidence. The prevailing scientific viewpoint is that although some people are sensitive to small amounts of one or a few specific chemicals, there is no general hypersensitivity to chemicals. Scientifically oriented allergists, psychiatrists and occupational health clinicians suspect that the majority of MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) patients suffer from psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety reactions and somatization (bodily reactions to stress). This opinion is being increasingly

Jenny Uglow s masterpiece chronicles the life of William Hogarth, one of the greatest illustrators in history. The book leads the reader on a journey of Hogarth s birth, early life, entry into art and his eventual maturity as an artist. It explains that William Hogarth s birth took place in the United Kingdom in November of the year 1697. He was the son of an uneventful writer and schoolmaster from Westmoreland. In the early years of his adulthood, William Hogarth was an apprentice of a goldsmith. By the year 1710 William began producing his engraved projects (Uglow 23). Later on in his life, William Hogarth began oil painting where he began by painting small portraits groups named conversation prices . Motivated by the previous projects, William Hogarth proceeded with more projects that contained satirical paintings. The paintings mocked modern customs inspired by early Italian prints. The ... William Hogarth memory lives as people consider him the father of moral portraits and satirical caricatures. It is this genre that later developed into cartoons. Many also remember William Hogarth as one of the most innovative artists of his time due to his stout middle class values and his determination. By the time of his demise, William Hogarth had introduced art to the ordinary man for the first time in modern civilization. William Hogarth believed that art should uphold both aesthetic qualities as well as have ethics. As a result, William Hogarth tried to apply the two policies into all of his

Spiritual Assessment Advanced Practice Nurse Implications Spiritual assessment and care of a patient at each medical or psychiatric appointment is an essential aspect of providing adequate care by all NPs. To be able to do so, NP must understand that spirituality and religiosity are not synonymous. Unlike the concept of religion, which defined by the online Oxford dictionary (2017) as The belief in a worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods, spirituality holds various definitions depending on whom you ask. Equally, Castledine (2011) states, The trouble with humility is that it is a very humble virtue to have and one that cannot be easily rated in the same way as other values in life (p. 527). Likewise, Srokosz (2013) suggests, humility is difficult to define and a clear scientific understanding of humility does not exist yet (p. 103). Similarly, Crigger and Godfrey (2010) review of literature offer two reasons for the lack of scholarly interests in humility : (a) original meaning of the term humble, narrow sense of having a low estimation of one s self and being of little value, the notion of humility conflicts with modern conceptions of the self and (b) its religious affiliation may also dampen the benefit of acquiring or nursing humility, particularly in the US culture... (p. 311 312). Notwithstanding, de Vries (2004) examined humility by applying qualitative approach in order to explore the following two objectives: (a) To describe how washing feet is a participatory experience, and (b) To describe how the experience of washing feet can change the relationship between nurse and patient (p. 580). Utilizing a sample size of seven post registered nurses as participants de Vries concludes

For some they become so dedicated to these characters and these shows that a fandom through mediated text is formed. Gilmore Girls, a show that ended many years ago, continues to inspire many. With its quick and witty humor it is no surprise that many personalities quickly become admirers of the show. The humor and story lines are not the main reason for the creation of such a large fan community. This phenomenon can explain why fans never changed the mother daughter relationship of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. This mother daughter relationship inspires many families especially mothers and daughters to develop the same close nit friendship as the Gilmore Girls. One fan states I was excited that I was finally able to connect with a mother daughter relationship on television (My Mom and I Are the Gilmore Girls IRL). It involves shifts over time between periods of relatively rapid growth of output recovery and prosperity, and periods of relative stagnation or decline contraction or recession. These fluctuations are often measured using real gdp. Despite being termed cycles, these fluctuations in economic growth and decline do not follow a purely mechanical or predictable periodic pattern. • 9. Benedict Vs Beowulf Research Paper The Rule of St. Benedict and Beowulf could not be more different texts. Beowulf is the epic story of a warrior turned king who kills monsters while grappling with his mortality. The Rule of St. Benedict was written as a how to for other monks to follow when founding their own monasteries. While one is meant to be loudly performed by a bard to drunken warriors, the other is meant for quiet reflection by one abbot. Yet through these disparate genres, similar values emerge. Both The Rule and Beowulfglorify the ideal of a brotherhood working under the watch of one leader. It is not a coincidence that two separate cultures developed such a similar dependence. Both the monks in Benedict s monastery and the warriors in Hrothgar s mead hall are only barely sustainable. It involved the rope workers of the colonial Boston and two British regiments, the twenty ninth and the fourteenth regiments. Eleven people were shot in the incident; five people were killed and the other six were merely wounded. The soldiers and the captain, Thomas Preston, were all put on trial. All were acquitted of charges of murder, however the two soldiers who fired first, Private Mathew Killroy, and Private William Montgomery, the two soldiers were guilty of manslaughter. They got the north and south end gangs to unite and work for them. These two groups for years had taken place in a bloody battle each November fifth in order to celebrate Pope s Day. The convincing of radicals like Sam Adams, to fight the tyranny of the English instead of each other, brought the groups together. The leader of the new united gang of northerners and southerners was Ebenezer MacIntosh, the previous leader of the south end gang. MacIntosh, a shoemaker, fought in the French and Indian war, and also had fought against poverty practically his whole life. The Stamp Act caused a number of riots to break out; the Loyal Nine and their gang conducted these riots. The first riot was directed toward Andrew Oliver, an aristocrat and a wealthy merchant. He was also the brother in law of the lieutenant governor of Boston, Thomas Hutchinson. Oliver, and others alike were to benefit from the Stamp Act. The Loyal nine hung an image of Oliver from the liberty tree. Bostonians awoke to this effigy on August 14, 1765. There was a sign on the doll, which read, What greater joy did New England see/ Than a stampman hanging on a tree. First, the Commercial Revolution generated economic stability. Second, the Intellectual Revolution generated interest in the Earth s composition and the pursuit of exploration. Europe then called for a political revolution to end the disorganized and disorderly rule of its government. This revolution returned order and stability to the government and renewed interest in exploration to search for national wealth. When Columbus made a friend in Father Perez, it was a turning point for him. He was able to gain support from converts who believed in his cause. Ferdinand and Isabella were harder to convince, however. They found little interest in Columbus curiosity as they were preoccupied with defending themselves against the Moors. Later in 1491, Columbus again appears before Ferdinand and Isabella who apparently liked and respected the determined seaman (38) 1. Although they had admiration for Columbus, his plans for voyage were again rejected, partially because of his request to titles and riches. It seems that Columbus gave but scant and unsatisfactory information to the commission, probably through fear that his ideas might be improperly made use of and he be robbed of the glory and advantages that he expected to derive from his project (2) 2. Babatope (1974) and Onwuejeogwu (1991) note that the students union was born and nurtured in the womb of colonial protest. One of Thomas Aquinas s greatest accomplishments was his book called The Summa, this helped create his place in history because it was one of the first books by a philosopher proving God s existence. Summa was written for the common people by Thomas Aquinas to help the readers understand that the religion is reasonable. The book also takes Thomas Aquinas researches of philosophy and bring them into his religious beliefs. The book was written sometime around 1265 1272. In The Summa, Thomas Aquinas basically talked about how there is no reason why not to believe in god. He made statements that showed there IS evidence into believing in god but no evidence not to believe in god. The summa is divided into 3 chapters in which Thomas Aquinas gave different sets of evidence. The first summa is the fact that Thomas Aquinas believed in God s existence. In the Summa, Thomas Aquinas says, God wills good to every being which exists and loves them. Together making love the common denominator of God to the world. In the world we live in today some people rely on the internet in order to find love. But online dating isn t all that it s cracked up to be. In fact, you should stay away from it. Dating online is not safe. Sure there are some dating sites that are legitimate and a little less dangerous, but some people rely on facebook, myspace, and instant messaging for dating which is just plain wrong. We have seen how internet dating can be so addictive, and now let s take a look how it can also rise almost all fake and false profile. People do not always tell you the truth. People may give you a photograph that is ten years old when they take the best photograph that they ever have, or a touched up photograph which is not really them. Not all sites require a photo, and even those that do cannot guarantee that the photo is a real one. Clear signs that the photo may be a fake are strange backgrounds that might indicate a stock image, photos that appear professionally taken (unless the person is a model or actor) and photos that seem old rather than current. Profiles can be false or partially false as some people attempt to make themselves sound as appealing to others and take it too extremes. Last but not least, the other disadvantage of internet dating is expensive fees. Expensive fees. While online dating may at first seem cheaper than real world dating (no need to pay for drinks or cab rides), the truth is that most matchmaking sites charge a fee. Some Internet dating sites charge far too much money and some will not allow us to view the profiles of other people until we become a member and pay the fees. This fee may not be all inclusive, and extras sometimes add up. Some websites

The mass death that was a consequence of the physical carnage of the war could easily lead to emotional distress due to the nature of death. Consider in All Quiet on the Western Front when the soldiers had to seek protection in a graveyard when heavy fire overtook them, what Paul thought about the event described the messed up mental side of the soldiers regarding death(Remarque 65). Primarily, when trying to escape the bombs and gas, and Paul had to hide in a coffin, he realized that the coffin shall protect [Paul], thought death himself lies in it, (Remarque 67). An example of the draining nature of war is how after Paul attacked adversary soldier named GГ©rard Duval, he certainly comprehended how war had taxed his brain beyond endurance, (Remarque 225). So, there was a major convergence between the German and Indian soldiers due to the emotional trauma of war. But, while there are very strong connections between the Indian and German soldiers through their correlated mental and physical trauma along with their mass lack of awareness of the details of war prior to enlisting, there is some divergence in the experiences of the soldiers. One of the divergences is money, but this could just be a divergence between these specifically soldiers or it could be the differing point on why these ordinary characters decided to fight for their empires. Over the decades, Greek inspired architecture has been seen all over the world. Ideas are often borrowed while constructing buildings, monuments, and even houses. Greeks mostly used wood, limestone, unbaked bricks, terracotta and metal for construction. Most architecture were inspired by religion, politics, and form of recreation. Of all designs from Greek architecture three of them have withstood the test of time and their application can be seen today. They include Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian order. However, each order is distinct from the other and one cannot differentiate unless trained. This paper will look at Doric and Corinthian orders while comparing and contrasting them. It will also trace their prevalence and popularity throughout history. Doric style of architecture has been the most famous. It is used all over the world today. It is found in Parthenon and Acropolis and can be distinguished from other orders as it has vertical column and a plain roof. Colonies of south Italy and Sicily have also used it. Similarly, Seamus Heaney used The squat pen rests; snug as a gun , using the reverse spelling of snug (with dropping the s ) to write gun in the same line to emphasise the image of his pen being a weapon. The squat pen rests; snug as a gun also shows great contrast with snug being a comfortable and secure word while gun is a word that conjures up images of violence and war. This type of negative, contrasted, imagery is used throughout Tichborne s Elegy to emphasise loss. Charles Tichborne uses images such as my crop of corn is but a field of tares which expresses that anything worthy of praise he once had, is now worth nothing at all. Conceivably the poem the expresses the most sadness, Tichborne s Elegy uses strong imagery that creates the air of grief surrounding the poem. They maintain this raises the possibility that some of the common correlates of such violence are themselves reactions to sudden or chronic ecological instability. For example, alcoholism, depression, and anxiety may be responses to ecological stresses in the family, such as loss of employment, excessive financial debt, or divorce. As resources dwindle, Burgess and Draper suggest the survival of the fittest theory which implies that if there is only enough food for three people and there are four members in a household, it would be a waste to give the food to a member that is not economically viable or unlikely to survive even with the food. This is a very barbaric principle and does not reflect the cultural norms of today s American society. Undoubtedly, in some places, this may occur but the maltreatment of the Hughes children did not come in this form. II. Having someone inferior start a chain reaction that takes away direct control, can be particularly debilitating to someone who has low self esteem. This is one of the most common personality traits for abusers like Mickey Hughes. Analysis Of Deliverance By James Dickey I remember almost every day that I was in the war, and I think almost everything that I ve done is influenced at least to some degree(...) by the fact that I was in the war (Dickey). James Dickey wrote his novel Deliverance based off much of his own experiences in war. In his novel, narrator Ed is in a predicament. He feels like life is floating by without actually experiencing it. When his friend Lewis comes along and offers him the canoe trip of a lifetime, Ed is all in. These two are joined by two other city slickers to set off on an adventure that will change their lives. James Dickeywrote this adventure with a different kind of experiencein mind. A participant in World War II, the conflict was still fresh in his mind and this shows in the journey on the river. The trip that these men take is eerily similar to the journey Dickey participates in throughout the war. Leaving for the war and leaving for the canoe trip both elicit the same feelings of excitement, doubt, and loss. The trials on the river include many of the same trials people in war go through such as death and guilt. Finally, the return home both from war and from the canoe trip both have negative impacts on the psyche. The men s obstacles in their departure, encounters with adversity, and return home are a metaphor for the struggles of war. Dickey s motivations and feelings about going off to war resonate with Ed s feelings about leaving on the canoe trip. Ed is at a point in his life where nothing
