What are the Challenges? Getting it to work! Every room is different Different file formats Finding relevant videos 13 May 2011 5
Why do we need to think about accessibility? For visually impaired users the video will only provide audio information For deaf users the audio is irrelevant and the video will only provide visually information Need to think about ensuring that the information provided in the audio  or video is also provided elsewhere. 13 May 2011 6
Why do we need to think about copyright? To ensure that the resources we are using do not infringe copyright law Some websites allow you to search for videos based on their licence You can also look for creative commons information 13 May 2011 7

Video File Types and sizes WMV – Windows Media Video AVI – Audio Video Interleave MPEG4 – Standard for the compressing of video MOV – Apple Mac format which plays with Quicktime The longer the video and the higher its quality the bigger the file size 13 May 2011 9
Audio File Types and sizes MP3 – Common format WAV – Waveform Audio File (audio that has not been compressed) WMA – Windows Media Audio AAC – Advanced Audio Coding (default for most Apple products) The longer the audio and the higher its quality the bigger the file size 13 May 2011 10

  • 6. Why do we need to think about accessibility? For visually impaired users the video will only provide audio information For deaf users the audio is irrelevant and the video will only provide visually information Need to think about ensuring that the information provided in the audio or video is also provided elsewhere. 13 May 2011 6
  • 7. Why do we need to think about copyright? To ensure that the resources we are using do not infringe copyright law Some websites allow you to search for videos based on their licence You can also look for creative commons information 13 May 2011 7
  • 9. Video File Types and sizes WMV – Windows Media Video AVI – Audio Video Interleave MPEG4 – Standard for the compressing of video MOV – Apple Mac format which plays with Quicktime The longer the video and the higher its quality the bigger the file size 13 May 2011 9
  • 10. Audio File Types and sizes MP3 – Common format WAV – Waveform Audio File (audio that has not been compressed) WMA – Windows Media Audio AAC – Advanced Audio Coding (default for most Apple products) The longer the audio and the higher its quality the bigger the file size 13 May 2011 10
