Eating Disorders In Adolescent Girls
Introduction of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders, a range of psychological disorders characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating
habits is a growing problem. The three most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Binge
Eating Disorder, and Bulimia Nervosa. Eating disorders currently affect 25 million Americans.
(allianceforeatingdisordes.com) Children under 12 who were hospitalized for an eating disorder
increased by 119% between 1999 and 2006 (Fox News). While males are affected by eating disorders,
75% of people affected are female. One group of the population that is largely affected are teenage
girls. I chose to research the topic of eating disorders in adolescent girls because I became concerned
when I met someone struggling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of disorder affects mostly adolescent girls who are completely aware of their change of
eating habits, have an extreme fear of ever being fat, and are overly unhappy with the way there body
is shaped. Bulimia first starts with frequent eating episodes with mass amounts of food, with the lack
of control to stop, (binging). After binging, some will even result in taking types of medications in
order to prevent any type of weight gain. Furthermore, when attempting to hold off the weight using
laxatives or self induced vomiting it s known as the purging type. People who excessively exercise or
try to restrict any type of weight gain are known as the non purging type. Purging is usually kept a
secret due to the shame and insecurities that follow. Also, most people that are diagnosed with Bulimia
also have the same symptoms as someone who has Anorexia Nervosa. However, unlike Anorexia,
people with this disorder are more than likely able to maintain a normal weight, sometimes even
underweight, but see themselves as overweight or even heavier than what they actually are. Statistics
show that 64% of individuals with bulimia have a near normal body weight (Alliance for eating
disorders). Most people do not know that purging does not eliminate all of the calories ingested.

Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method
In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize
the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as
follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are
squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal
is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then
suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy
detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which
continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user
uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times
the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results
showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has
lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy
detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver
Operating curves) is used to analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami
fading channels. Results showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC,

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace
INTRODUCTION
It was like like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real!
Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in
1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal
Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As
the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian
Era (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world,
Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition
of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to
October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the
exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen
Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world
during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South
Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial
and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a
hope that the nation s economic growth

Personal Action Plan
Personal Action Plan for the Department of Special Education
Currently, the curriculum implemented throughout Farmington Municipal Schools District for the
multiply impaired special education programs fails to effectively equip students in the area of life
skills and other areas of development such as sensory, fine motor and gross motor. It relies heavily on
worksheets, which focus on the subjects of math and reading. While basic math problems and phonics
and phonemic awareness are essential to a student s academic development, such skills cannot be
mastered by students severely disabled and there is nothing offered in the curriculum for students who
are blind, autistic or suffering from a severe neurological disorder (Comprehensive Curriculum, ...

Shared reading, for example, is an integral part of an instructional routine in which the students and
teacher interact. In other words, it does not require the use of a student s hand to use a pencil or
crayon. Instead, every student would be able to share the reading of a text with the support of the
teacher. The teacher would read aloud using vocal expression while students follow along either by
listening or following along while holding a book (Comprehensive Curriculum, 2015). While a
supplemental curriculum would need to be designed in order to meet the needs of every student within
a special education room, there may be some resistance from the district, as they prefer all teachers to
use a universal curriculum and not individualize it. However, due to the fact that not all students have
the same disability or limitations, they cannot be expected to participate in a universal curriculum, as
it will be limited in its ability to accommodate for every student s individual needs (An Introduction,

The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans
In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage of,
what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards African
Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most people do
not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most
economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate how the
majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and intellectual
standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as other American
citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in the issues that are
affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been abused since the
beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers, the Native
Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an International law,
the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the term terra nullius, empty
land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to international law nor belong to a
recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the settlers made claim to the land
(Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the Native Americans helped them learn

Meaning In Art
The meaning of a unadorned sculpture that one passes by on a routine bases, can end up having a
much more monumental and deep meaning than what an individual may have discerned. Untitled is
just one example of the multiple pieces of artwork that stands tall throughout the Lewis and Clark
Community College campus. A strong representation of many different feelings is given off to the
buildings, its surroundings, and the students and faculty that walk among it. Each physical
characteristic comes together to design the horse and can be analyzed to have meanings like
recognition, nobility, and guidance. Outside Trimpe Hall on Lewis and Clark Community College
campus sits a majestic, light brown, wood colored figure. It is placed directly on the ground, along the
side of a little stone pathway. Little patches of grass are peeking up through the mulch. The shape of
the statue resembles that of a horse. As you move closer to the artwork you notice pieces of logs are
carved in a perfect way in order to intertwine between each other leaving just the right amount of
spaces in between. The front end, which faces the parking lot, is slightly facing downwards, as if it
were avoiding something in the distance. The horse has a strong stance with a sturdy body structure.
Architecturally, the horse holds a beautiful and artistic role on the campus. Each characteristic that the
artist uses to make up the horse has a reasoning behind it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The NovelThe No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Botswana is known for many things, from the country s sprawling landscapes to it s sparkling
diamonds. It is this beautiful country that Alexander McCall Smith uses as the backdrop for his novel,
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Smith, a former professor at both the University of Botswana and
Edinburgh University, creates a wonderful and entertaining story centered around a patriotic woman
who wants to make a difference. The novel s main character, a middle aged woman named Precious
Ramotswe, uses the money from her late father s cattle to open her very own detective agency. At the
time, this was an abnormality for a woman. As the novel progresses, one thing becomes clear: Certain
qualities of the country of Botswana and in the novel The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency has clearly
defined the expectations of males and females, leaving females treated unfairly. Throughout the novel,
Mma Ramotswe encounters many different people and is faced with many obstacles. One of these
obstacles is the fact that she is a woman, which Mma Ramotswe does not believe should be a problem.
Despite her opinions, the detective sees the difference in genders as she solves many of her cases. The
earliest encounter in the story is in one of the first cases the detective works on: a case in which a
young woman, named Happy Bapetsi, wants Mma Ramotswe to prove that man who appeared on her
doorstep is truly her long lost father. Happy Bapetsi is not your average Botswana woman. Successful

Integrative Approach To Counseling
An integrative approach to the role of a counselor with theological implications first includes
determining how an individual will relay to the world one s style of counseling (identity).
Furthermore, there is a recognition of the four main biblical matters known as creation, the Fall,
redemption, and restoration, and their applicability in one s therapeutic practice. The foundation of a
Christian worldview and the implementation of Scriptural principles are the chief tools of a counselor
working to achieve a sense of wholeness and reconciliation among clients in relation to God, the
world, one s self, and others.
An antecedent for a person training to become a counselor is the worldview he or she possesses,
including presuppositions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under a Christian worldview, this crack is repairable, yet, every corner of humanity was touched by
the sinful nature that crept in because of the Fall. Scripture harrowingly states, There is none
righteous, no, not one...There is none who does good, no, not one (Romans 3:10, 12, NKJV). This
profound statement is the heart of a counselor s humility, for no amount of degrees and training can
alter these words. As an earthly counselor, I ought to identify with the struggles of a sinful nature. It is
from this vantage point that I can serve God s children with integrity by not sitting in judgment of the
stains left by sin, but rather by offering empathy, compassion, and God given guidance to the hurting
and lost. It is through this mentality that help shape a professional s

Co2 Adsorption Capacity Is Defined As A Measure Of An...
CO2 adsorption capacity is defined as a measure of an adsorbent s capability or potential to adsorb
CO2. It is expressed in terms of number of moles of CO2 that a unit mass of an adsorbent adsorbs
under equilibrium conditions. The CO2 adsorption isotherms for MCM 41 30, MCM 41 30 AP 9 85
0.5 and MCM 41 30 TP 9 75 0.3 at 30 °C are presented in Figure 6(a). The CO2 adsorption isotherms
for amine tethered samples exhibit a steep nonlinear concave shape due to the strong interactions
between carbon dioxide molecules and amine moieties. In contrast, MCM 41 30 exhibits a less steep
isotherm indicating that pure silica interacts with CO2 only by physisorption and hence lacks
sufficient strong affinity towards CO2. Therefore, it is clear that the ... Show more content on

Amine efficiency provides a measure of the fraction of amine groups present in an adsorbent that
actively participate in adsorbing CO2 by chemisorption. It is reported that the theoretical maximum
value for amine efficiency that an ideal adsorbent should exhibit under dry CO2 adsorption conditions
is 0.5 (for PCO2 = 0.1 0.2) i.e., in the absence of significant physisorption at non functionalized sites.
The amine efficiency values for MCM 41 30 AP 9 series and MCM 41 30 TP 9 series are presented in
Table 2, from which the variation in amine efficiency with respect to amine loading can be noticed.
From Table 2, it is evident that, as amine loading increases, at first amine efficiency increases, then
reaches a maximum at a critical value of amount of water added in the reaction mixture and then
finally drops off at water levels higher than the critical value for both mono and tri aminosilane
addition. The similar trend in amine efficiency is observed with respect to increase in grafting
temperature for constant amount of water, in case of both mono and tri amino silane compounds.
MCM 41 30 AP 9 85 0.5 sample exhibited the maximum amine efficiency of ~0.5, which is close to
theoretical maximum value. This proves that MCM 41 30 serves as an ideal support for amine
tethering process, where the CO2 adsorption process is not hindered due to transport/diffusion

The Controversy Of The Correspondence Theory
When studying the many aspects of philosophy, one must place value in what they consider to be true
and false about the knowledge that has been, or will be acquired. Skepticism helps; it is the idea that
some or all of human knowledge is not possible. In other words, one should preferably hold off on any
beliefs they have, rather than accepting or relying on knowledge that was acquired by reason. Skeptics
may either have a problem with accepting beliefs or opinions that are made out to be facts, or they
may not trust or rely on their own senses, or both. At any rate, the subject in question with skepticism
is truth, and how we arrive at what is considered to be true and why. There are more than few ways to
go about this, which we will look at more in depth in this paper. When considering truth, there are
some theories that help distinguish the different viewpoints and how to determine falsehoods. The
correspondence theory is one of them; it states that what corresponds to the world should determine
what is considered the truth or falsehood of a statement or proposition (Pecorino, 2000). This theory is
saying that we should look at how the proposition defines the world, and if it makes sense, then it is
true; facts must correspond to propositions to be truthful. It is a valuable tool that most questionable
propositions can be plugged into and roughly confirmed, based on the human experience of the world.
There are some problems with this theory, however, surrounding

Decline In Cedar Trees
The article discusses three possible reasons for the decrease in the population of a specific species of
Cedar trees, named yellow Cedar. However, the professor states that none of these reasons could be
responsible for the decline in Cedar population. The professor s arguments to oppose the article are as
follows. First, the passage introduces insects such as bark beetle as a potential damaging factor.
According to the author, these insects might exploit trees as parasites. However, the professor refutes
this by referring to the fact that Cedar trees are indeed resistant plants against insects. Since the trees
are coated with toxic chemicals, they are somewhat immune against insects, thus bark beetle could not
cause damage and reduction of population in Cedar trees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Negative Effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants
As newly synthesized chemicals are constantly being created, whether for pharmaceutical purposes,
agricultural growth or just for the use of commercial products, their adverse effects on the
environment, especially in remote places, are often overlooked. Such has been seen with the
production of persistent organic pollutants in the mid 1900s, a series of chemicals that were
commonly manufactured for the intended uses in agriculture, yet have been found to negatively affect
many other sectors in both nature and human health (EPA, 2009). Due to the grasshopping effect, the
past production of persistent organic pollutants in North America, Europe and Asia have contributed to
adverse health effects and biomagnification present in the Arctic regions today.
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances that resist degradation and continue to
persist in the environment. Such chemicals pose a threat to humans, biodiversity and the environment
due to their ability to bio accumulate in organisms as well as biologically magnify through levels of
the food chain (UNIDO, n.d.). POPs are also classified as long range transport pollutants as they are
able to travel far distances from the source of contamination by natural means such as water, wind and
atmospheric cycles. For this reason, such pollutants are being found in the Arctic, despite these
regions not being the source of producing such chemical contaminants (Ma, et al, 2011). As listed by
the Stockholm Convention,

The Performance Of The Three Companies
After analyzing the performance of the three companies, located in the U.S., New Zealand, and
Argentina, I have discovered issues that need correction in each of the locations. First off, my analysis
shows that your company s performance in the U.S. is producing at 126% of the acceptable upper
limit. Although you can look at this as successful production, continuously operating at this rate the
company in this location is running the risk for saturating its market. Once the market becomes
saturated with your product, this will cause prices to drop, therefore continuing to generate revenue
will not be easy. Being that production is above standards I do not see a problem within the structure
or the operations within the organization at this location. However, maximizing the profit margins
would be the best strategy. I would recommend throttling back on production quantity by lowering
labor resources, which will help increase the unit profit margin. With the information, I have gathered
on this location my data shows me that with using fewer resources you can still achieve the same
production performance. With cutting back on labor resources, you will be able to achieve the same
goals using less human resources. As a result, the company is saving desired time and money allowing
your profits to increase. I would also like to recommend utilizing the forecasting technique because
this will enable managers to make the correct decisions by providing valuable information to

Strategic Analysis For Strategic Foresight
Assignment Two: Future Studies
Scott L. Tousignant (4467911)

Dr. Randall Cuthbert
17 May 2015 Assignment Two: Future Studies This is a review of Thinking about the future:
Guidelines for strategic foresight utilizing outside materials to provide support. The paper will address
the value of strategic forecasting to an organization. Drivers, change trajectories, and turning points
will be discussed. The role of theory in emergency management will be outlined. The paper will
introduce the importance of strategic vision in relation to a time continuum. Strategies is
communicating strategic action plans will be reviewed.
Strategic Forecasting Strategic forecasting provides organizations the ability to prepare for long term
future events (Hines Bishop, 2006). Businesses utilize forecasting as part of their business plan. It
assists in the growth and vision of the organization. A business plan can play an important part in the
success or failure of an organization. Company strategies include influencing the environment to
correspond to that used for forecasts. At the same time, companies recognize that changing variables
in the environment may influence forecasts (Markgraf, n.d.). Forecasting is just as important in crisis
action planning.
Crisis Action Planning The benefit to strategic forecasting in crisis action planning is to provide a
framework upon which planning can occur (Hines Bishop, 2006). Forecasting

Compare And Contrast Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew
The Taming of the Shrew is one of the earliest comedies written by William Shakespeare. Some
people believe it may have been his first work written for the stage as well as his first comedy .
In The Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio is the only suitor willing to court Kate, the more undesirable of
Baptista s two daughters. Kate is never described as unattractive, but is known for her shrewish
behavior around all of Padua. Bianca, on the other hand is very sweet and charming and beautiful; for
these reasons many suitors woo her. Kate is presented to be much more intelligent and witty than
Bianca, but, ironically, she cannot compete with Bianca because of these witty comebacks and caustic
remarks she makes. All of the men who desire Bianca need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Evaluation Of The Psychiatric Emergency Room
Anna s stay
The average stay in my unit, the psychiatric emergency room, is typically anywhere from four hours to
twenty four hours. One patient recently broke the record with her stay being close to two weeks. This
was a major concern for our unit as placement for her was difficult to find and staff had never dealt
with a stay this long in the past. This particular patient s story was heart breaking. The patient (I will
call her Anna) was a foster child who had been bounced around from home to home. Her most recent
foster family was an elderly couple who was well to do and took care of the patient in their 1.2 million
dollar home. Unfortunately, this child had some major behavioral issues and oppositional defiant
disorder as a result of her difficult upbringing. Therefore, her foster family finally had enough and
dropped the child off to our unit. She was a very challenging patient and her patience was being tested
as a result of her long stay as well as the nursing staff s patience. A typical day working with this
patient usually included the patient ending up in restraints. Restraints were a daily occurrence for her.
She spent the majority of her stay in the secure core. The secure core is an area in the psychiatric
emergency room that includes three rooms and a small nursing station. The secure core is reserved for
patients that pose a risk for themselves or for patients that are psychotic and have lost touch with
reality. The

Important Aspects of a Free Market
Discuss some important aspects of the free enterprise system or capitalism.
Three essential principles of capitalism are: production is organized for the market, the means of
production are privately owned, and investment is privately controlled, and the people who use those
means of production to produce goods and services, that is workers, are hired on a labor market to
work in firms as employees. Capitalism is a form of market economy in which production and
investment are privately controlled, and the work of production is performed by employees, hired
from free labor markets. Capitalism is essential to the function of society due to the opportunities that
it creates and the augmentation of an individual s vitality. Individuals can ... Show more content on

One could say, this is libertarianism, where individual freedom is the paramount social value, where
freedom is determined by your own volition. Economics is simply incentivized behavior, the issue
with this is, when money becomes the incentive, does everything else go out the window? As we saw
in the Great Recession how the sub prime loans fiasco rippled through our economy and eventually
the world. As we can see, there are positive and negative aspects of free enterprise, yet I feel that hope
and inspiration of the potential to be able to augment ones vitality is essential in maintaining social
order, keeping society efficient, and excelling forward. I want to be clear; I do not view the United
States as a free enterprise. I believe most aspect are, but when more than half of the total output of the
country is being distributed in a way that is determined by the government, the term collectivizing or
Keynesian economics is more appropriate. As Dr. Friedman states, Everybody knows that the way to
develop and to improve the lot of people is through private markets, free enterprise and small
government. We re not practicing what we should be preaching. I ve been saying that the former

Fourth Amendment generally protects us all from unreasonable searches and seizures by the

Supreme Court of the United States that alter the protections provided by this amendment (Hall,
2015). In 1968, the Supreme Court decision in Katz v. United States fundamentally changed the
measure used to judge whether a Fourth Amendment violation occurs due to new technology being
utilized by law enforcement. The 2014 Supreme Court decision in the case of Riley v. California is a
more relatable case, since it involves technology that the vast majority of us use everyday (Savage,
2014). This case changed the way law enforcement is able to legally search the cellphone of an
arrestee, by strengthening the arrestee s right to privacy under the Fourth Amendment.
Katz v. United States
Prior to the year 1967, the Fourth Amendment protected areas and relied on physical intrusion to
define something as a search (Hall, 2015). The case of Katz v. United States came out of California.
Katz was using a public, phone booth to place bets in Miami, Florida and Boston, Massachusetts. The

Laws Against Cancellation of a Hotel Booking
In this report I will explain the legal significance of a hotel booking and the consequence if there is a
breach of contract. I will start by explaining the significance of having a contract, what the contract
entails in relation to cancellation and the consequence of a breach. I will include the statutory rules
relevant to the conflict to the compromised solution. A contract is an agreement that is legally
enforceable. Contracts provide businesses with security. If contractual promises are broken the
innocent party are entitled to seek a legal remedy through the court system. In this instance we are the

Credit includes a cash loan and any other financial accommodation including hire purchase, credit

agreement may be enforced against him subject to the provisions of the Act. The creditor in such
circumstances is required to serve a default notice on the debtor specifying the breach of contract and
giving the debtor at least seven days to take remedial action. Under a hire purchase agreement the
creditor retains the ownership of the goods until the debtor exercises the option to purchase by
payment of the final installment. If the debtor has difficulty in making the repayments he can
terminate the agreement, He may also be made liable for further repayments to represent the creditor s
loss and this is why formal termination by the debtor is not a advisable course of action. If the court
feels that the credit bargain is extortionate in that it is grossly exorbitant of offends the principles of
fair dealing then it may reopen the credit agreement and do justice between the parties. Effectively the
court could change the agreement by rescheduling repayments and/or set aside the whole or part of the

Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal
What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is suffering
from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is often known as
a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia? Voluntary euthanasia can
be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that
minimizes further pain and discomfort.
While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill
patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? I
will show how a utilitarian would argue that the suffering endured by the ... Show more content on

But, the fact remains that euthanasia is still considered murder in most regions. Therefore, in this
context, it seems that the utilitarian intent is overshadowed by the dark reality of death and criminal
charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s life. If
one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or
suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into
a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was

parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes,

The Influence Of Sociological Criminology On Human Behavior
Since ancient times, males have always gone against laws in the society. The beliefs of sociological
criminology in the environment have prevented its attempts to prove this theory. The neurohormonal
changes between male and female individuals tell more about behavioral differences as they apply to
crime and defiance. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation research in 1992, men
constituted 89% of the violent arrest crimes and 76% of the property crimes arrests. Up to date, the
trend has not changed as men continue to be found on the wrong side of the law compared to their
female counterparts. Despite the research found, sociological criminology has failed to provide
enough evidence on its emphasis on environmentalism.

This novel falls into the category of historical fiction for many reasons. Of course, the fact that that the
novel is based on the 1793 Yellow Fever Epidemic in Philadelphia is one of them. Matilda and the
other characters in the book are fictional characters, but some of the events taking place happened to
real life people during this time period. In the story, Mattie witnesses her mother become ill with the
fever, falls ill of it herself and helps take care of many others who are sick as well. The symptoms
explained in the story are directly correlated with those that the real people of Philadelphia
experienced when ill with the fever. When researching the epidemic, i learned that some of the third
phase symptoms of yellow fever are jaundice, vomiting blood, shock and multi organ failure leading
to death. The author describes all of these things in the novel through the eyes of Mattie. She describes

Military Strategy and Planning
Part 1 Military theory after World War II drastically changed for two major reasons: the dropping of
Atomic weapons on Japan and what would become known as the Cold War between the USSR and the
West. Foreign policy, which became military policy, starting in 1947 is known as the Truman
Doctrine. This began with U.S. support of Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to
prevent those countries from falling under Soviet influence. The policy was written as a response to
the events that took place in the Eastern European Theater after World War II. The Soviet Union
coopted much of Eastern Europe, ½ of Germany, ½ of Berlin, and believed they needed an even
greater buffer zone to protect Russia from the West. Greece and Turkey were logical extensions of this
because both had been devastated during WWII and had strong socialist parties. Truman believed that
if Greece and Turkey did not receive the aid they needed, they would inevitable fall to Soviet
influence. The intended audience was wide: this was a clear message to the Soviet Union; a message
to Europe that the U.S. would not tolerate Soviet aggression; a message to the people of Greece and
Turkey that the U.S. would side with them; and a message to Congress and the American people that
the U.S. would put in a formal policy to prevent the spread of worldwide communism. Post World War
II events were top of mind for most Americans; there was a fervent anti communism movement afoot

What Is Voltaire s Idea Of The Round Table
The Painting Round table by Adolph Menzel is a painting that shows, people like Voltaire gathered
around in the round table in the palace of the Prussian King Frederick II. The era of this painting was
during the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was a time where western thought and culture was a big
deal, this thought came around in the 1700s. Science, philosophy, society and politics where all
subjects on what thinkers thought in depth about during this time. These ideas took away the medieval
thinking and brought a new modern thinking in place of the medieval thinking. (
What began the Enlightenment was the scientific revolution, The rise of the new science progressively
undermines not only the ancient geocentric conception of the cosmos, but, with it, the entire set of
presuppositions that had served to constrain and guide philosophical inquiry. (Bristow, 1). The new
thoughts that came with the scientific revolution were a big success. The Enlightenment also had to do
with some French people called The Philosophes who included, Voltaire, Diderot, D Alembert,
Montesquieu, et cetera (Bristow, 2). The Philosophes were some letters that were composed by the

the party splitting into two factions, one being the Mensheviks (Russian for The Minority ) and the

The economy was in shambles because of the cost of war. Military wise, Imperial Russia was no

Finally, people began protesting. On March 7, 1917, workers at Putilov, Petrograd s largest industrial
plant went on strike due to their displeasure with the government. On March 8, international women s
day, several people, a majority of them women, began protesting in want of more bread, which was

over 200,000 protesters were on the streets, calling for the end of the war and overthrowing of the
Tsar, and almost every industrial enterprise was shut down. The Tsar, in response, released 180,000
troops to deplete the crowd. However, most were either partially trained recruits or older working
class reserves from the Petrograd area. There was a serious shortage of officers amongst the reserve
battalions of the Imperial Guard which made up the bulk of the troops and the morale and discipline of
these units was low. Historians suggest around 12,000 of the soldiers could be regarded as reliable, but
even these proved reluctant to fire on the demonstrators, both out of fellow feeling and because the

A Brief Summary Of Chapter One Of All Quiet On The Western...
Chapter one of the novel All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque (1928) gives
insight to the horrific realities soldiers have to face in World War I. Paul Baumer, the narrator and one
of the soldiers enlisted to fight for his country, tells the reader that they have just returned back to
camp after two weeks of fighting on the front lines. He also notes that more than half of their
Company of one hundred fifty men were lost in a gas attack the day before, and this lead to a surplus
of leftover food and supplies for the remaining soldiers. The main soldiers in the story visit their
friend, Kemmerich, in the hospital, whose leg has been amputated and who is on the verge of death.

Paul reminisces about the times before he was a soldier, when he still had dreams and aspirations to
become a writer, but now, those dreams have become irrelevant and seemingly unreachable. He also
brings up the memories of him as a fresh soldier, required to do embarrassing as well as arduous tasks
which made the recruits tough and durable, prepping them for the harsh realities of war. Paul also
finally experiences the death of Kemmerich, but his mostly emotionless response to his death reveals
that soldiers do not and are unable to show their emotion. This type of thing occurs a lot, and the
soldiers do not really display their emotion and have lost their capability to properly mourn for their
lost brothers. The author juxtaposes the soldiers previous lives before they became who they are now
with the experiences they currently face to demonstrate how war destroys their sense of personality
and emotions. When Paul talks about the soldiers experiences first being recruited into the military, he
mentions how [they] recognized that what matters is not the mind but the boot brush, not intelligence
but the system, not freedom but drill (Remarque 22). Paul illustrates the fact that when soldiers are
recruited, the soldiers had to completely disregard themselves. The war has become their entire life,
and all that really mattered from that point of recruitment on was not their character or personality, but
their skill and how well they do on the battlefield. The author wants us to realize that war is a massive
detriment to the soldiers enlisted to fight for their country, because it rips away their dreams and
personalities, and forces them into an entire life

Odysseus And Achilles Comparison Essay
One of the earliest examples of Greek epic heroes are those by Homer, The Iliad, and The Odyssey,
both surrounding their respectful heroes Achilles and Odysseus in the Trojan/greek war. These heroes,
though both by Homer, vary greatly in how the ideas of heroism has been interpreted, though both still
relevant heroes in their time. While both are considered great heroes with vast similarities, they also
couldn t be more different. Both men have personal loses, and are tested by Gods throughout their
heroic journeys. They both have high senses of their duties as a hero, leader, and warrior. They also
have outstanding courage, bravery, and compassion.
But, Achilles is a hero who s flaws impede him and his ability to act with nobility and integrity. He is

Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis
Younger Dryas Climate Event
Occurring about 12,800 years ago, The Younger Dryas Climate Event was an abrupt climate change
that dropped the Earth temperature by about 10 degrees, bringing dry winds ( Abrupt Climate Change
, 2003). This event followed a warming trend that had resulted in glacier melting. As the melting water
filtered down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico, its route suddenly diverted, carrying the
water east into the Atlantic Ocean. This change in the water path disrupted both the salinity and the
flow in the ocean system, thus changing the climate of the Northern region. Unfortunately, 30 species
of animals became extinct as a result of the changes, and nearly 80 percent of North America s large
animals disappeared (video). Ending abruptly, the Younger Dryas officially ... Show more content on

Although no debate exists regarding whether this event occurred, several theories have been created
explaining the reason why it occurred. One such theory is the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis, also
known as the Clovis Comet Hypothesis, which proposes that a comet or asteroid hit North America,
killing off many animals and human instantly, and non adapting species were also eradicated due to
starvation (video). One critique of this hypothesis is that no crater has been found on Earth s surface;
however, it is likely that the comet hit the glacier, which ultimately melted and left no physical sign.
Another hypothesis depends on the idea of a thermohaline circulation shutdown due to the changes in
ocean circulation ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). A problem with this hypothesis, however, is that
another glacier melting event occurred following the Younger Dryas, and it did not create a massive
climate change. Another theory states that the climate change was brought on by Earth s orbital
changes, but much more information is needed regarding this

Impact Of Technology On Society With Businesses And Schools
Most people believe that technologies is the master mind in this world. Without technology humans
cannot be able to master things through businesses and schools. Technology is destroying humanity
and it has been a major thing in people lives. Humans realized that technology can cause many
problems throughout their lives and can lead to be humiliation. Yet, humans using technology has
been noticed in articles, movies, play, and books. Technologies has a big impact in today s society
with businesses and schools.
Also according to Melvin Seeman, alienation can be categorized into five dimensions: powerless,
meaninglessness, normlessness, social isolation and self estrangement (783). The five types of
alienation caused by technology threaten human existence and are embedded in culture and societal
norms. Power is the ability of controlling others, and the opposite of power is powerless, which means
a lack of strength or absence of power (Seeman 784). Someone who has been through this
powerlessness experience may feel out of control and has no way of trying to regain control.
According to Karl Marx, meaninglessness refers to the state of being without meaning and values of
labors in the work process.
Therefore, going into the meanings of the five dimensions of alienation. Alienation means that
separation of individuals from society. Which means that it is a lack of trust in one s social or physical
environment or oneself. Powerlessness is a lack of strength or absence of power.

Much Ado About Nothing Benedick Essay
In my oral final, I will be exploring who the character Benedick is, from the comedic play Much Ado
About Nothing by William Shakespeare. I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning of the
comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his
character throughout the play.
Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most crucial
part of his personality is his wit and humor. However, by the end of the play he is noticed as someone
who can think clearly and make important decisions.
The biggest change in Benedick s character is risen from his relationship with Beatrice. And we can
see this throughout the story as they are unable to converse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
At the beginning of the play, Benedick is portrayed as a character that strongly despised the idea of
marriage and love, although these feelings slowly start to change as the comedy progresses. In the
play, Benedick states that I never did think to marry (Act 2 Scene iii) even though he later declares I
did not think I should live till I were married (Act 2 Scene iii). Through these quotes it is clearly
shown that Benedick is self contradictory, which marks a critical turning point for the development in
Benedick s character as his earlier opinions of marriage,

How Long Does It Take to Stop a Forest Fore Based on the...
Investigation Plan
Introduction
I will be conducting an experiment which involves burning a forest to test the progression of the forest
fire in relation to the high density of trees in the forest. The general hypothesis in this case would
suggest the higher the density of trees, the further the fire would progress. I will be conducting various
tests to test this hypothesis. The variable that I will be changing is the population of trees within the
forest. To carry out this experiment I will be using a simulation which is created by the use of a Net
Logo environment.
Method
To carry out this experiment I will use various tree densities to test how much of the forest will burn. I
will be using the ticks to see how long it would take for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results are showing that as the density is decreasing so is the percentage being burnt. This time the
ticks increased showing the time taken to burn has increased. However, in this table I have got an
outlier. This outlier could have been caused by human fault. The outlier shows that this piece of result
wasn t accurate as it is totally different from the rest of the repeats.
Density Repeat % Burnt Ticks
50%
1 2.0% 295 2 1.8% 260 3 3.4% 190 4 2.5% 199 5 2.6% 175 Average 1.5% 223.8
The table above shows that an average of 1.5% of the trees got burnt when the tree density was 50%.
These results show a significant drop in the percentage of the trees burnt. In addition, the ticks have
also decreased.
Density Repeat % Burnt Ticks
25%
1 0.5% 35 2 0.6% 46 3 0.7% 39 4 0.5% 39 5 0.7% 43 Average 0.6% 40.4
The table above shows that the average percentage of the tree s being burnt is 0.6% when the tree
density was only 25%. The ticks show an average of 40.4. If you compare this table to the table with a
density of 99% you can see there has been a significant drop in the percentage burnt as well as the
ticks.
The density of trees from 60% to 50% shows a significant change in the percentage burnt as well as
ticks. The average percentage burnt for the density 60% was 66.9% whereas for the density 50% the
percentage burnt was an average of 1.5%. This

  • 2. Eating Disorders In Adolescent Girls Introduction of Eating Disorders Eating disorders, a range of psychological disorders characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating habits is a growing problem. The three most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Bulimia Nervosa. Eating disorders currently affect 25 million Americans. (allianceforeatingdisordes.com) Children under 12 who were hospitalized for an eating disorder increased by 119% between 1999 and 2006 (Fox News). This type of disorder affects mostly adolescent girls who are completely aware of their change of eating habits, have an extreme fear of ever being fat, and are overly unhappy with the way there body is shaped. Bulimia first starts with frequent eating episodes with mass amounts of food, with the lack of control to stop, (binging). After binging, some will even result in taking types of medications in order to prevent any type of weight gain. Furthermore, when attempting to hold off the weight using laxatives or self induced vomiting it s known as the purging type. People who excessively exercise or try to restrict any type of weight gain are known as the non purging type. Purging is usually kept a secret due to the shame and insecurities that follow. Also, most people that are diagnosed with Bulimia also have the same symptoms as someone who has Anorexia Nervosa. However, unlike Anorexia, people with this disorder are more than likely able to maintain a normal weight, sometimes even underweight, but see themselves as overweight or even heavier than what they actually are. Statistics show that 64% of individuals with bulimia have a near normal body weight (Alliance for eating disorders). Most people do not know that purging does not eliminate all of the calories ingested. During a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver Operating curves) is used to analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami fading channels. Results showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in 1851 From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era (John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth ... The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage of, what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards African Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most people do not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate how the majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and intellectual standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as other American citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in the issues that are affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been abused since the beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers, the Native Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an International law, the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the term terra nullius, empty land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to international law nor belong to a recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the settlers made claim to the land (Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the Native Americans helped them learn to ... It is this beautiful country that Alexander McCall Smith uses as the backdrop for his novel, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Smith, a former professor at both the University of Botswana and Edinburgh University, creates a wonderful and entertaining story centered around a patriotic woman who wants to make a difference. The novel s main character, a middle aged woman named Precious Ramotswe, uses the money from her late father s cattle to open her very own detective agency. It is expressed in terms of number of moles of CO2 that a unit mass of an adsorbent adsorbs under equilibrium conditions. The CO2 adsorption isotherms for MCM 41 30, MCM 41 30 AP 9 85 0.5 and MCM 41 30 TP 9 75 0.3 at 30 °C are presented in Figure 6(a). The CO2 adsorption isotherms for amine tethered samples exhibit a steep nonlinear concave shape due to the strong interactions between carbon dioxide molecules and amine moieties. In contrast, MCM 41 30 exhibits a less steep isotherm indicating that pure silica interacts with CO2 only by physisorption and hence lacks sufficient strong affinity towards CO2. Therefore, it is clear that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amine efficiency provides a measure of the fraction of amine groups present in an adsorbent that actively participate in adsorbing CO2 by chemisorption. It is reported that the theoretical maximum value for amine efficiency that an ideal adsorbent should exhibit under dry CO2 adsorption conditions is 0.5 (for PCO2 = 0.1 0.2) i.e., in the absence of significant physisorption at non functionalized sites. The amine efficiency values for MCM 41 30 AP 9 series and MCM 41 30 TP 9 series are presented in Table 2, from which the variation in amine efficiency with respect to amine loading can be noticed. From Table 2, it is evident that, as amine loading increases, at first amine efficiency increases, then reaches a maximum at a critical value of amount of water added in the reaction mixture and then finally drops off at water levels higher than the critical value for both mono and tri aminosilane addition. The similar trend in amine efficiency is observed with respect to increase in grafting temperature for constant amount of water, in case of both mono and tri amino silane compounds. MCM 41 30 AP 9 85 0.5 sample exhibited the maximum amine efficiency of ~0.5, which is close to theoretical maximum value. • 12. The Controversy Of The Correspondence Theory When studying the many aspects of philosophy, one must place value in what they consider to be true and false about the knowledge that has been, or will be acquired. Skepticism helps; it is the idea that some or all of human knowledge is not possible. In other words, one should preferably hold off on any beliefs they have, rather than accepting or relying on knowledge that was acquired by reason. Skeptics may either have a problem with accepting beliefs or opinions that are made out to be facts, or they may not trust or rely on their own senses, or both. At any rate, the subject in question with skepticism is truth, and how we arrive at what is considered to be true and why. There are more than few ways to go about this, which we will look at more in depth in this paper. When considering truth, there are some theories that help distinguish the different viewpoints and how to determine falsehoods. The correspondence theory is one of them; it states that what corresponds to the world should determine what is considered the truth or falsehood of a statement or proposition (Pecorino, 2000). This theory is saying that we should look at how the proposition defines the world, and if it makes sense, then it is true; facts must correspond to propositions to be truthful. It is a valuable tool that most questionable propositions can be plugged into and roughly confirmed, based on the human experience of the world. The Negative Effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants As newly synthesized chemicals are constantly being created, whether for pharmaceutical purposes, agricultural growth or just for the use of commercial products, their adverse effects on the environment, especially in remote places, are often overlooked. Such has been seen with the production of persistent organic pollutants in the mid 1900s, a series of chemicals that were commonly manufactured for the intended uses in agriculture, yet have been found to negatively affect many other sectors in both nature and human health (EPA, 2009). Due to the grasshopping effect, the past production of persistent organic pollutants in North America, Europe and Asia have contributed to adverse health effects and biomagnification present in the Arctic regions today. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances that resist degradation and continue to persist in the environment. Such chemicals pose a threat to humans, biodiversity and the environment due to their ability to bio accumulate in organisms as well as biologically magnify through levels of the food chain (UNIDO, n.d.). POPs are also classified as long range transport pollutants as they are able to travel far distances from the source of contamination by natural means such as water, wind and atmospheric cycles. For this reason, such pollutants are being found in the Arctic, despite these regions not being the source of producing such chemical contaminants (Ma, et al, 2011). The Performance Of The Three Companies After analyzing the performance of the three companies, located in the U.S., New Zealand, and Argentina, I have discovered issues that need correction in each of the locations. First off, my analysis shows that your company s performance in the U.S. is producing at 126% of the acceptable upper limit. Although you can look at this as successful production, continuously operating at this rate the company in this location is running the risk for saturating its market. Once the market becomes saturated with your product, this will cause prices to drop, therefore continuing to generate revenue will not be easy. Being that production is above standards I do not see a problem within the structure or the operations within the organization at this location. However, maximizing the profit margins would be the best strategy. I would recommend throttling back on production quantity by lowering labor resources, which will help increase the unit profit margin. With the information, I have gathered on this location my data shows me that with using fewer resources you can still achieve the same production performance. With cutting back on labor resources, you will be able to achieve the same goals using less human resources. As a result, the company is saving desired time and money allowing your profits to increase. Technology And The Fourth Amendment Technology and the Fourth Amendment Since its inception, the protections provided by the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution have been expanding and evolving because of new technology. The Fourth Amendment generally protects us all from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government (Fourth Amendment Search and Seizure, n.d., p. 1199). Court cases such as Katz v. In 1968, the Supreme Court decision in Katz v. The 2014 Supreme Court decision in the case of Riley v. California is a more relatable case, since it involves technology that the vast majority of us use everyday (Savage, 2014). • 25. Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is suffering from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is often known as a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia? Voluntary euthanasia can be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that minimizes further pain and discomfort. While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s life. If one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally barren quadriplegic determined to end his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that Louisa can show will that his life is still worth living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is determined to change his mind, despite the happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes, 2012). Military Strategy and Planning Part 1 Military theory after World War II drastically changed for two major reasons: the dropping of Atomic weapons on Japan and what would become known as the Cold War between the USSR and the West. Foreign policy, which became military policy, starting in 1947 is known as the Truman Doctrine. This began with U.S. support of Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent those countries from falling under Soviet influence. The policy was written as a response to the events that took place in the Eastern European Theater after World War II. The Soviet Union coopted much of Eastern Europe, ½ of Germany, ½ of Berlin, and believed they needed an even greater buffer zone to protect Russia from the West. Greece and Turkey were logical extensions of this because both had been devastated during WWII and had strong socialist parties. Truman believed that if Greece and Turkey did not receive the aid they needed, they would inevitable fall to Soviet influence. The intended audience was wide: this was a clear message to the Soviet Union; a message to Europe that the U.S. would not tolerate Soviet aggression; a message to the people of Greece and Turkey that the U.S. would side with them; and a message to Congress and the American people that the U.S. would put in a formal policy to prevent the spread of worldwide communism. Chapter one of the novel All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque (1928) gives insight to the horrific realities soldiers have to face in World War I. Paul Baumer, the narrator and one of the soldiers enlisted to fight for his country, tells the reader that they have just returned back to camp after two weeks of fighting on the front lines. He also notes that more than half of their Company of one hundred fifty men were lost in a gas attack the day before, and this lead to a surplus of leftover food and supplies for the remaining soldiers. Paul reminisces about the times before he was a soldier, when he still had dreams and aspirations to become a writer, but now, those dreams have become irrelevant and seemingly unreachable. He also brings up the memories of him as a fresh soldier, required to do embarrassing as well as arduous tasks which made the recruits tough and durable, prepping them for the harsh realities of war. Paul also finally experiences the death of Kemmerich, but his mostly emotionless response to his death reveals that soldiers do not and are unable to show their emotion. This type of thing occurs a lot, and the soldiers do not really display their emotion and have lost their capability to properly mourn for their lost brothers. The author juxtaposes the soldiers previous lives before they became who they are now with the experiences they currently face to demonstrate how war destroys their sense of personality and emotions. When Paul talks about the soldiers experiences first being recruited into the military, he mentions how [they] recognized that what matters is not the mind but the boot brush, not intelligence but the system, not freedom but drill (Remarque 22). Paul illustrates the fact that when soldiers are recruited, the soldiers had to completely disregard themselves. The war has become their entire life, and all that really mattered from that point of recruitment on was not their character or personality, but their skill and how well they do on the battlefield. The author wants us to realize that war is a massive detriment to the soldiers enlisted to fight for their country, because it rips away their dreams and personalities, and forces them into an entire life ... Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis Younger Dryas Climate Event Occurring about 12,800 years ago, The Younger Dryas Climate Event was an abrupt climate change that dropped the Earth temperature by about 10 degrees, bringing dry winds ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). This event followed a warming trend that had resulted in glacier melting. As the melting water filtered down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico, its route suddenly diverted, carrying the water east into the Atlantic Ocean. This change in the water path disrupted both the salinity and the flow in the ocean system, thus changing the climate of the Northern region.
