Benefits Of Tahini Sesame Paste
Recently I bought some tahini sesame paste for a recipe I found in a cookbook.
For those of you, who are new to this, tahini comes from crushed sesame seeds.
It is one of the world s healthiest foods to eat.
I went to the local shops to buy some, there were two jars, hulled and unhulled.
My instincts told me to get the unhulled which I did, although I was concerned the unhulled tahini
sesame paste would not taste as sweet.
Unhulled is stronger in flavour, a little bitter in taste, and darker in colour. However, you soon get used
to the taste and after a while, it actually tastes really good.
If you are not sure of the taste you can always add some raw organic honey.
Now, it was time to look into tahini benefits. And could I use it more often? ... Show more content on

Tahini Benefits
My anti aging regime is already jam packed, nevertheless, there is always room for one more.
Your complexion will glow from all the vitamins and minerals, it is probably the best for looking
younger.
It contains all the B vitamins and zinc you need for healthy skin and hair.
Tahini sesame paste unhulled, has two fantastic compounds, sesamolin, and sesamin.
As a result, these two compounds enhance absorption of vitamin E in the body.
This is important, as air pollution alone can cut the amount of vitamin E in the body, and in turn
causes wrinkles.
Sesamolin and sesamin compounds are of great benefit to a healthy heart, and hormonal health.
These compounds will protect the liver from toxic damage and help lower high blood pressure.
Do you have arthritis in your knees? If you do, eating a couple of tablespoons daily of tahini sesame
paste will help reduce pain.
Researchers discovered this is as good as taking Tylenol, if not better, and certainly

Expressionism In Edvard Munch s The Scream
Looking like a scene out of a horror movie, The Scream is one of the most famous Expressionist
paintings in the world. During the end of the nineteenth century, Expressionism arose as an art
movement, wherein poets and artists began to use their works to express their inner feelings and
emotions (Wolf). One of the influential expressionists at that period was Edvard Munch, who was a
Norwegian artist and who painted The Scream in four distinct versions, from tempera to pastel to
crayon (Shabi). After this painting was released, it immediately caught people s attention because
Munch used exaggerated colors and simple shapes, which was not common at that time, to portray the
skull like faced individual and the landscape. In addition, the painting provoked questions regarding
the inspiration of Munch because the great masses were curious to know the hidden messages behind
the painting. Therefore, if the audiences examine The Scream closely, they will notice Munch had
utilized various art techniques to demonstrate his painting as a form of therapy that can appeal to the
audiences emotions, logic, and sense of credibility. Munch used many straight and curved lines to
make appeals to the audiences emotions in his painting. With the use of different lines, Munch has
successfully moved his audiences attention to the skull like faced individual. In his painting, the sex of
the skull like faced individual is vague because one cannot determine based on his or her appearance

In this term paper the discovery of the Polio vaccine will be discussed and broken down into deeper
thought on why and how it was discovered. Poliomyelitis is an infectious disease that reached
epidemic levels in the mid twentieth century. People that were unfortunate to receive this disease
faced hardships including fevers, sore throat and vomiting(Allaby). These are just symptoms but Polio
can be a vicious disease leaving their patients paralyzed. The majority of people who are diagnosed
with Polio don t get paralyzed right away or die suddenly. The symptoms are very similar to any other

These other scientists include Thomas Francis, Jr. who Salk worked with for a year in microbiology
and resulting in Francis isolating two types of influenza virus(Allaby). Microbiologist John
Enders, virologists Frederick Robbins and Thomas Weller all influenced Salk to find the breakthrough
he so desperately needed. Both virologists grown viruses in tissue taken from a living organism using
penicillin to keep the object free from infection(Allaby). This was a breakthrough for Salk because he
copied their procedure and used viruses from the spinal cords of polio patients and grew them in
another object to test on(Allaby). Jonas Silk has always been involved with medical science
throughout his entire life. He attends and graduates in surgery from the City College of New York. In
1938 when Salk works with Thomas Francis he was introduced to finding the influenza
vaccine(Allaby). This is the event that made Salk interested in finding out more about viruses and
urges him to want to find a vaccine for a disease. Salk ended up working on a influenza vaccine at the
Virus Research Unit of the University of Michigan School of Public Health(Allaby). From working on
the influenza vaccine Salk had the opportunity to become the head of the virus research laboratory at
the University of Pittsburgh in 1947(Allaby). This is where and when Salk decides to begin his work
on the polio vaccine. The testing Salk produced with the Polio virus in the spinal cords, they revealed

basketball. Basketball has always been a fast paced, exciting game to watch. The sport has even been
nationally televised for decades. The game has gained special popularity because of its superstars.
National Basketball Association (NBA) superstars are recognized by many as the most recognizable
pro athletes. Larry Bird was one of the most famous stars of the league, and his popularity greatly
increased the publics interest in the league. Larry Bird s fame and basketball success was brought
about by his hard work and competitiveness.
It all began on December 7, 1956, in a rural Indiana town called West Baden; Larry Bird was born
(Borden n. pag.). His family s life in West Baden and French Lick was anything but glamorous.
However, Bird said, I just never realized how poor we were. Nobody in French Lick was wealthy
(Borden n. pag.). This poor community lifestyle led to his eventual interest in basketball, as he and his
brothers couldn t afford other entertainments. They instead competed against each other in any sport
they could. Larry s brothers helped him improve as a player by beating him so badly that he wanted to
practice his skills in order to beat them (Borden n. pag.).
As he grew up, Larry began to also excel in high school basketball. He drew a great amount of interest

Positive Images Of Ageism Essay
To begin with, we are told ageism is a social problem affecting individuals and groups, and
consequently, it can even be rooted within community settings (Greene, 2007). Embedded images in
the minds of youths accompanied by attitudes have traveled through generations.
Beliefs of being needy, hopeless, senile, inactive is its theme; in other words older adults are far less
valuable than their youthful counterparts; a stereotypical idea acquired prior to one becoming old.
Positive images of aging influences younger people view of later life by challenging stereotypes that
were aforesaid. Furthermore, it serves as a breeding ground for successful aging. Images reflecting the
older adult having a degree of control over their environment, actively participating in life through
interactions or helping others contests notions that older adults are needy.
As younger adults witness positive images of aging the paradigm shift begins. Vulnerable and
burdensome, and being a drain on the economy will be replaced with individuals that are community
assets (Greene, 2007). Intergenerational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

against it. It was as if their images of aging were re wired making new connections with their
environment and all that was in it. The display of happiness through engagement, pleasure, and
meaning was achieved as we saw a mixture of satisfaction. Truly they made aging a positive
experience. Initiatives were introduced to give the older adults more choices, the community support

Persuasive Essay On Tipping
The United States is one of the few counties in the world still using the old fashion tipping system.
During the late 19th century legislature rapidly abolishes the practice of tipping when it is introduced
by wealthy Americans. Eventually restauranteurs find a way to prospect of passing labor costs to
consumer, which convinced the American to accept the practice of tipping. When many American don
t understand the purpose of tipping is for but somehow it is customer responsibility to pay the
restaurant employees based on their service. There are many reasons to argue about the tipping
system. But, most of them ignore the very basic problem with abolishing tipping in America, the most
difficult of which is our absurdly low minimum wage. The practice is abhorrent from a historical
perspective. Recently, New York City s Sushi Yasuda owner Scott Rosenberg announced that he
decided to eliminate tipping altogether. Following the custom in Japan, he decided to pay his
employees higher wages and redistribute the cost to the customers by raising the prices on the menu.
Is this a good idea? Rosenberg, who abolished tipping at his restaurant, made a very powerful
statement against the Outdated of tipping practice. He penned what many others believe is one of the
most succinct and yet irrefutable way. The staff no longer worry about making a lot of tip on weekend
and penny on weekday. Rosenberg quote The risk is that your prices appear to be high on the menu.

The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction Many people in this world live their lives without any aspirations towards
greatness. They think that they don t stand a chance of fulfilling any of the dreams or goals they might
have. Their idea of dreams coming true are far from their imagination and stick around with the absurd
idea of keeping their feet in the ground and stop day dreaming or even think about it. What they don t
know is that by just thinking about it, they re much closer to their dream than what they thought they
were. There are several steps to follow though, steps that will make you reach your goal a lot faster
with just using your mind and that are what I d like to demonstrate you.

Basically every thought you have will contribute to what what s going on in your mind, whether you
want it or not if you think about it you ll attract it. Some people say that this is where the saying Be
careful with what you wish for comes from. It doesn t matter if it s for good or bad by having it in
your head you just might get it.
The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58). Where
we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to dream about
going to Disney World. I would see the commercials and I would see myself there also. Playing,
meeting my favorite characters, getting on all the rides and just simply having fun. I would pray and
ask my parents to take me. Down deep inside of me I knew I was going to be able to go one day, I
never lost hope. Until one day my aunt decided to organize a trip for the whole family and I just
couldn t believe it! After all that wishing and hoping I finally got to go and made my biggest dream
come true. That s exactly what a person needs to do, have faith that you re going to receive it and just
like a child, don t worry on the how and when to receive it. Just wait and have that certainty of being
able to have it at the right time at the right moment.
What also keeps a lot of people away from their goals is their fear. Fear of hoping and day dream and

Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depressive Disorder
Bipolar disorder, previously manic depressive disorder, is a disorder that has a myriad common
misconceptions surrounding it within the general public. Unless one has taken the time to research
what Bipolar Disorder is/entails or is suffering from the disorder itself, knowledge about the disorder
typically comes from hearsay. Before reading Kay Redfield Jamison s novel, most of what I knew or
had learned about Bipolar Disorder was from other individuals. I knew it was some form of disorder
but the details eluded me. Many times you will hear teenagers say things like Oh, she is so bipolar
when a friend shifts from happy one minute to mad the next or The weather is so bipolar when it shifts
from sunny to raining rapidly. From this, I assumed that Bipolar Disorder had something to do with a
rapid shift in moods. However, other than looking up on one occasion whether Bipolar Disorder and
Manic Depressive Disorder are the same thing, I did not pay much more attention to what Bipolar
Disorder was or what those suffering from the disorder dealt with on a daily basis. It was not until I
came to college where we briefly covered the disorder in classes, like intro, and read Jamison s
memoir for another course that I really began to understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it
affects those who suffer from it. After having read Jamison s memoir, the life of those suffering with
Bipolar Disorder became a little easier to imagine. It most certainly is not an easy

Fear s tendencies are much akin to that of a parasitic worm; forever burrowing with hunger insatiable,
altering and manipulating its host if given dominion. Fear did not fall unknown to him, for he shared
familiarity as one would with an age old friend, sans camaraderie. Did it guide him? Perhaps, but
within a world devoured by illness, where wolves lay with sheep, sometimes a touch of paranoia
interwoven with persistent foreboding kept you from the yawning endless maw of death itself.
Furthermore, in the outliers, there slinked more than the diseased to dread. Let the mindless tear him

perfectly lovely piece of costume jewelry, my mind began to create a much more elaborate scenario
that snowballed to catastrophe. When we got to our first hour study hall, I made a big deal of making
certain that several people saw my ring. As they asked, I told them that my maternal grandfather was a
full blooded Native American (he actually was), and that he had given me this gorgeous piece of
turquoise jewelry which I wanted to give to Laura Beth as thanks for her help and welcoming manner.
As I had hoped, the class was impressed and I knew my status was immediately elevated in this new

ominous snicker before he loudly announced, Hey, Gina, is your grandpa s name Chief Avon?
Naturally, I was mortified and began to cry and repent about fabricating the story. What is interesting
is that from that time forward, the students were much more helpful and welcoming. That was the day

left a little space in between each loop. Than I decide to coil the wire 15 times around the same nail
with almost no space in between them. At the end of each time i wrapped the nail with the loops I left
some wire so that I was able to hook it up to the battery. The wire that was left out, I folded it so it
could be able to hold on to the battery, positive and negative. The positive was the flat head of the nail
and the negative was the pointy bottom of the nail. The type of battery that i used was a D battery. By
putting the nail wrap with copper wire into the battery it started creating magnetism. When they made
contact the wire and the battery got hot so i had to use the cloth. After this the small magnetic objects

Social Expectations In To Kill A Mockingbird
A society will often dictate what is expected of citizens through the unspoken social expectations of
the community. These expectations set by society often lead to inequalities, in terms of power and
inclusion, which can be seen through Maycomb s court system and Atticus s statements of Maycomb s
social expectations. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the conflict between social
expectations and inclusion in society stems from the racism and sexism found in the community of
Maycomb. This demonstrates that to achieve equality in a community, social expectations that are set
by the public cannot limit or restrain a specific set of people in terms of power or inclusion in society.
In Maycomb s society, the social expectation of white men having more power than black men
illustrates the inequality the community faced when racism is added to social expectations. While
Atticus is talking to Jem about how the court system works, he states, In our courts, when it s a white
man s word against a black man s, the white man always wins (Lee 223). Atticus s statement reveals
that social expectations are related to racism because it causes an inequality in power between black
and white civilians. Based on the color of one s skin, it would determine the amount of power they
would have in society. This tells readers that to achieve equality in a community, it is necessary for
everyone, regardless of race, to have equal power in terms of voices and opinions so that all

Brutal Honesty
In keeping with the theme of brutal honesty that I have taken with this application, I don t want to
pretend that I was a model student in high school. I am a person who has, in the past, made mistakes
and poor decisions but I am not that person today. I want to show you who I am and what I can do, but
I must emphasize the person that I used to be in order to do that. I was not an A student (or even a B
student) in high school. I did not take any AP courses, I was not part of any extracurricular activities,
and I did not get involved with any student government associations. It just wasn t who I was in high
school. I was directionless and unmotivated to succeed in my education; however, those experiences
provided me with the baseline on which to measure my intellectual development. ... Show more

mentality had changed. I think back to this moment, which I remember vividly, as the point where the

Comparing Love In The Canterbury Tales
Love in The Knight s Tale, Wife of Bath s Tale, and Franklin s Tale
The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer around 1386, is a
collection of tales told by pilgrims on a religious pilgrimage. Three of these
tales; The Knight s Tale , The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale ,
involve different kinds of love and different love relationships. Some of the
loves are based on nobility, some are forced and some are based on mutual
respect for each partner. My idea of love is one that combines aspects from each
of the tales told in The Canterbury Tales.
In The Knights Tale , the love between the two knights and Emily is
intensely powerful. The love that Palomon and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Palomon and Arcite are in jail
Palomon says, The Beauty of the lady whom I see wandering yonder in the garden
is the cause of all my cries and woes. This is not something That I would want
to base my ideal love on. These two knights are willing to risk their lives for
the love of this woman, whom they have never even met. For all they know she
could be the most annoying person on earth. In that case they would be risking
their lives, only to spend the rest of it with a beautiful and extremely
annoying woman.
In The Wife of Bath s Tale A knight is forced to marry a wretched old
woman to avoid death. The knight and the old woman do not get along well, and
when the old woman suggests that she can make things better, the knight responds
saying, Corrected? . . . It will never be corrected! You are so loathsome and
old. A love relationship such as this could never last because their is no
attraction, physical or mental. A major factor in love is physical attraction
between the two partners, here their is no attraction. Two people cannot love
each other if they can t stand to be around each other. The knight can hardly bare
to look at his wife, let alone sleep with her.
Despite the fact that the knight despises her, the old woman persists on

The Zika Virus Through Latin America And The Caribbean
The most recent outbreak of the Zika Virus through Latin America and the Caribbean, and its
association with microcephaly in newborns has attracted significant attention from researchers and
health specialists. In 2013 and 2015, large outbreaks of the virus were respectively reported in French
Polynesia and Brazil. In 1947, The Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in Rhesus monkeys. It
was then identified in humans in 1952 in some parts of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania
The virus, also known as ZIKV, is an arbovirus of the Flaviviridae family, and is closely related to
dengue, yellow fever and Chikungunya viruses (Al Qahtani et al., 2016.); an arbovirus refers to a
group of viruses transmitted by arthropod vectors (MedicineNet.com, 2016). The Zika disease is
caused by the Zika virus that is primarily transmitted through a bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
Though the incubation period of Zika is not clear, it is estimated to be around 2 7 days after the bite of
an infected Aedes mosquito (World Health Organization, 2016).
Symptomatic signs of the disease are mild fever, skin rashes, malaise, conjunctivitis and muscle and
joint pain (World Health Organization, 2016). Because the virus has mild symptoms and no associated
fatalities, it goes undiagnosed in several cases. In newborns, however, the virus causes neurological
and developmental conditions, including but not limited to Guillain Barre syndrome and
microcephaly. To fully understand the mechanisms of

The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The gap as referred to in the title, is the distribution of the scores on achievement tests that differ
between black and white students in the United States. The purpose of this study was to record the
degree of the gap in achievement scores, decide how much of the racial gap is due to social class, how
the gap differed in the 30 year period, and how that which is credited to the social class has changed
over the years. Differences in social class, family structure, and discrimination against blacks as a
disgraced group are all proposed causes for the black white gap in test scores. If the gap is caused by a
difference in social class or family structure, then when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Answer: The authors compared the degree of the gaps before and after they adjusted for social class.
3. How have the gaps changed over time? Answer: The authors calculated the gaps from data in cross
sections over a 30 year period and studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each gap that is
independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of change
over time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that the gaps have
decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it would take over 50 years
to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and
science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community
variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire period, they would close
in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to
have reversed after 1972. These results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in
average test scores are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. Thus, it supports
the theory that the gaps in test scores are an outcome of other factors, such as discrimination.

Roanoke Colony
The Roanoke island is located off the coast of present day North Carolina. There are many questions
about where the people went and what happened to them. One of the main clues as to what happened
was the word CROATOAN carved into the trunk of a tree. Some people think that the colonists
travelled inland, tried to join an Indian tribe or they traveled to an island called Croatoan. The island
was found by Sir Walter Raleigh who was sent by Queen Elizabeth. When the crew came back with
the good news, they began gathering groups of people willing to settle in the new island called
Roanoke. Researchers are always finding more details about where the colonists could have gone,
what the word croatoan means and why the colonists left. In this ... Show more content on

the Native Americans would give us food, clothing, resources, hospitality and protection. By doing
this, we would have a more likelihood of surviving until John White got back rather than dying
because we would have had to wait for John White. If we were the people who were on charge of

we would put Joined Native Tribe. So, we basically would carve on the tree where we went, so John

Arterial Oxygen Saturation
It is known that as altitude increases, atmospheric pressure decreases, as does the partial pressure of
oxygen (Hall Table 44 1). That same table demonstrates that the partial pressures of both oxygen and
carbon dioxide in the alveoli decrease as well. However, the alveolar water vapor pressure remains
unchanged constant at 47mmHg no matter the altitude (Hall 561). The most deleterious result of these
factors is that less oxygen is being delivered to the tissues. Fortunately for me, Guyton and Hall says
that altitude has a relatively insignificant effect on arterial oxygen saturation at 9,000ft (Hall Figure 44
1). It is not until 10,000ft that arterial oxygen saturation begins to steeply decline. The physical affects
of acute hypoxia according to Hall are drowsiness, lassitude, mental and muscle fatigue, sometimes
headache, occasionally nausea, and sometimes euphoria. These effects progress to a stage of
twitchings or seizures above 18,000 feet and end, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to an article in Oxford Journals, one of the first steps in acclimitization is polycythemia.
This increase in red blood cells can be seen within the first two days of ascension. However, the
author is quick to point out that it is nonetheless a slow process and therefore not nearly as vital to
acclimitization as the other factors that come into play, the most crucial of which is the increase
pulmonary ventilation (West). Low oxygen is immediately sensed by chemoreceptors in the carotid
and aortic bodies, which then send signals to the respiratory centers of the brain, resulting in an
increase in respiration. In a matter of only days, acclimitization increases our: pulmonary ventilation,
concentration of red blood cells, lung diffusing capacity, vascularity of tissues, and ability of cells to

Writing the Rules in the Film, Brazil Essay
Terry Gilliam s dystopian film, Brazil (1985), lays out a visually stunning and ultimately sinister
depiction of a future society hounded by an oppressive government s desire for absolute control over
the population. Of elementary focus in the film are the roles of technology and the subsequent
dehumanization of the modern world and the myth of the free man under a totalitarian regime. Gilliam
shows our current obsession with technology and information as an exasperating evolution of
modernity that is, ultimately, leading us nowhere. Repeatedly, we see the shortcomings of a society
that is overly reliant upon systematic response (as displayed by the constant demands for paperwork)
and completely lacking in individualism and expression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next absurd bit of modernity is the innumerable documents that must be signed, stamped, printed,
and filed for anything to be accomplished. For example, the 27B 6 forms required for the men from
central service to turn on a kitchen tap. Beyond being a nuisance, the paperwork becomes a sort of
malevolent symbol for the totalitarian regime. In the case of the wrongfully arrested Mr. Buttle, the
amount of receipts and complaint forms that need to be filed, stamped, and signed to complete an
inquiry take so long that the Ministry of Information (M.O.I.) tortures and kills him before the
wrongdoing can be uncovered. This example of over reliance on the system shows that the primary
malevolent force in the film is not necessarily humans but the procedures and institutions they ve
created. The people actually responsible for the wrongdoing, such as interrogator Jack Lint, are simply
doing their jobs and thus somewhat exempt from any wickedness. Further illustrating the villainous
nature of the paperwork is Lowry s final vision of Tuttle being covered by a mass of flying documents
and ultimately being consumed by them. A final example of contradictory technology is the constant
cosmetic surgery undergone by Sam s mother and her friend, Mrs. Terrain. While it restores some
superficial beauty to Mrs. Lowry, Mrs. Terrain is constantly undergoing procedures to no avail. With

  • 2. Benefits Of Tahini Sesame Paste Recently I bought some tahini sesame paste for a recipe I found in a cookbook. For those of you, who are new to this, tahini comes from crushed sesame seeds. It is one of the world s healthiest foods to eat. I went to the local shops to buy some, there were two jars, hulled and unhulled. If you are not sure of the taste you can always add some raw organic honey. Now, it was time to look into tahini benefits. And could I use it more often? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many reasons to argue about the tipping system. But, most of them ignore the very basic problem with abolishing tipping in America, the most difficult of which is our absurdly low minimum wage. The practice is abhorrent from a historical perspective. Recently, New York City s Sushi Yasuda owner Scott Rosenberg announced that he decided to eliminate tipping altogether. Following the custom in Japan, he decided to pay his employees higher wages and redistribute the cost to the customers by raising the prices on the menu. Is this a good idea? The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58). Where we could see it a lot is with children. Unless one has taken the time to research what Bipolar Disorder is/entails or is suffering from the disorder itself, knowledge about the disorder typically comes from hearsay. Before reading Kay Redfield Jamison s novel, most of what I knew or had learned about Bipolar Disorder was from other individuals. I knew it was some form of disorder but the details eluded me. Many times you will hear teenagers say things like Oh, she is so bipolar when a friend shifts from happy one minute to mad the next or The weather is so bipolar when it shifts from sunny to raining rapidly. From this, I assumed that Bipolar Disorder had something to do with a rapid shift in moods. However, other than looking up on one occasion whether Bipolar Disorder and Manic Depressive Disorder are the same thing, I did not pay much more attention to what Bipolar Disorder was or what those suffering from the disorder dealt with on a daily basis. It was not until I came to college where we briefly covered the disorder in classes, like intro, and read Jamison s memoir for another course that I really began to understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it affects those who suffer from it. • 24. Social Expectations In To Kill A Mockingbird A society will often dictate what is expected of citizens through the unspoken social expectations of the community. These expectations set by society often lead to inequalities, in terms of power and inclusion, which can be seen through Maycomb s court system and Atticus s statements of Maycomb s social expectations. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the conflict between social expectations and inclusion in society stems from the racism and sexism found in the community of Maycomb. This demonstrates that to achieve equality in a community, social expectations that are set by the public cannot limit or restrain a specific set of people in terms of power or inclusion in society. In Maycomb s society, the social expectation of white men having more power than black men illustrates the inequality the community faced when racism is added to social expectations. While Atticus is talking to Jem about how the court system works, he states, In our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black man s, the white man always wins (Lee 223). Atticus s statement reveals that social expectations are related to racism because it causes an inequality in power between black and white civilians. Based on the color of one s skin, it would determine the amount of power they would have in society. This tells readers that to achieve equality in a community, it is necessary for everyone, regardless of race, to have equal power in terms of voices and opinions so that all ... Is the portion of each gap that is independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of change over time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that the gaps have decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it would take over 50 years to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire period, they would close in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to have reversed after 1972. These results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in average test scores are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. • 36. Arterial Oxygen Saturation It is known that as altitude increases, atmospheric pressure decreases, as does the partial pressure of oxygen (Hall Table 44 1). That same table demonstrates that the partial pressures of both oxygen and carbon dioxide in the alveoli decrease as well. However, the alveolar water vapor pressure remains unchanged constant at 47mmHg no matter the altitude (Hall 561). The most deleterious result of these factors is that less oxygen is being delivered to the tissues. Fortunately for me, Guyton and Hall says that altitude has a relatively insignificant effect on arterial oxygen saturation at 9,000ft (Hall Figure 44 1). It is not until 10,000ft that arterial oxygen saturation begins to steeply decline. The physical affects of acute hypoxia according to Hall are drowsiness, lassitude, mental and muscle fatigue, sometimes headache, occasionally nausea, and sometimes euphoria. These effects progress to a stage of twitchings or seizures above 18,000 feet and end, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to an article in Oxford Journals, one of the first steps in acclimitization is polycythemia. This increase in red blood cells can be seen within the first two days of ascension. However, the author is quick to point out that it is nonetheless a slow process and therefore not nearly as vital to acclimitization as the other factors that come into play, the most crucial of which is the increase pulmonary ventilation (West). Low oxygen is immediately sensed by chemoreceptors in the carotid and aortic bodies, which then send signals to the respiratory centers of the brain, resulting in an increase in respiration. In a matter of only days, acclimitization increases our: pulmonary ventilation, concentration of red blood cells, lung diffusing capacity, vascularity of tissues, and ability of cells to use oxygen (Hall ... • 37. Writing the Rules in the Film, Brazil Essay Terry Gilliam s dystopian film, Brazil (1985), lays out a visually stunning and ultimately sinister depiction of a future society hounded by an oppressive government s desire for absolute control over the population. Of elementary focus in the film are the roles of technology and the subsequent dehumanization of the modern world and the myth of the free man under a totalitarian regime. Gilliam shows our current obsession with technology and information as an exasperating evolution of modernity that is, ultimately, leading us nowhere. Repeatedly, we see the shortcomings of a society that is overly reliant upon systematic response (as displayed by the constant demands for paperwork) and completely lacking in individualism and expression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next absurd bit of modernity is the innumerable documents that must be signed, stamped, printed, and filed for anything to be accomplished. For example, the 27B 6 forms required for the men from central service to turn on a kitchen tap. Beyond being a nuisance, the paperwork becomes a sort of malevolent symbol for the totalitarian regime. In the case of the wrongfully arrested Mr. Buttle, the amount of receipts and complaint forms that need to be filed, stamped, and signed to complete an inquiry take so long that the Ministry of Information (M.O.I.) tortures and kills him before the wrongdoing can be uncovered. This example of over reliance on the system shows that the primary malevolent force in the film is not necessarily humans but the procedures and institutions they ve created. The people actually responsible for the wrongdoing, such as interrogator Jack Lint, are simply doing their jobs and thus somewhat exempt from any wickedness. Further illustrating the villainous nature of the paperwork is Lowry s final vision of Tuttle being covered by a mass of flying documents and ultimately being consumed by them. A final example of contradictory technology is the constant cosmetic surgery undergone by Sam s mother and her friend, Mrs. Terrain. While it restores some superficial beauty to Mrs. Lowry, Mrs. Terrain is constantly undergoing procedures to no avail. With each successive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
