Comparing Gilgamesh And Book Of Genesis
After closely reading the Sumerians story of the flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Hebrew story
of the flood in the Book of Genesis, it is clearly seen that these two stories have obvious similarities.
While there are many differences as well both of the stories help to explain the relationship the ancient
people had with their Gods. In the Book of Genesis and in the Epic of Gilgamesh many similarities
can be seen. First similarity is seen when God or several gods as in Gilgamesh deciding to destroy all
humankind because of its evil and Wickedness (Genesis 6:5). Here in both stories it is shown that the
God/Gods regretted making human beings and all of the other species as well and would do whatever
to fix their mistake. Second,

The Resurrection Of Former Prisons Across The World
Prison Theory The resurrection of former prisons across the world has equally captured the awareness
of tourists and scholars alike. While prison museums, as a result of their bleak and in some cases
disturbing subject matter, invert the Disney experience, they proceed to exploit a phenomenon known
as dark tourism, . . . in which people gravitate to sites associated with war, genocide, and other tragic
events for purposes of remembrance education, or even entertainment, (Welch, 1). Generated in order
to convey the aforementioned purpose, the museum effect subjects visitors of the prison museums to a
multilayered encounter with objects, images and space. Utilizing models such as The Clink, Alcatraz,
Eastern State Penitentiary, and Seodaemun prison, this papers purpose is to illustrate the success of the
museum effect in achieving its desired ends of remembrance through memorialization, education and
culturalization through use of images and space, and entertainment through the use of objects.
Space
In order to develop a proper understanding of the museum effect, one must understand each aspect
that contributes to the effect, the first being space. No prison structure better describes the use of space
than Eastern State Penitentiary. Designed by John Haviland, and opened on October 25thth 1829,
Eastern State, also known as the model prison is considered to be the world s first true penitentiary.
Haviland designed the penitentiary using a new architecture scheme dubbed

Ramsay s Journey To Happiness In Fifth Business By Dunstan...
Seeing a character s life as a journey in search of truth or meaning may help us to understand a central
theme of the work. By studying Dunstan Ramsay s journey towards happiness in Fifth Business, it can
be said that guilt must be managed, and not forgotten. Dunstan is motivated by guilt towards
happiness during his interactions with Mrs. Dempster, during the First World War, and by the various
romantic interests in his life. Davies writes the story of Ramsay s journey in a way that emphasizes the
theme of guilt, and more specifically how managing it changes his life for the better. The first stage of
Ramsay s journey, Mrs. Dempster s injury, has enormous effects on Ramsay s life, requiring him to
make difficult choices for the betterment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ramsay must also leave behind the promise of a wife and stable family to return home. He realizes
that he will not be happy if he marries Diana, so he continues on with his life and deals with the guilt
he feels for leaving her. The medal and the romantic interest must be dealt with and forgotten by
Ramsay, so that he can continue towards enlightenment. However, he is disgusted with his hometown
s celebration, realizing it is not a stage in his journey that will bring him happiness. The town goes so
far as to burn an effigy of the German emperor, prompting Ramsay to write that, I watched them with
a display that mounted towards horror (Davies 102). The Great War serves as a part of Ramsay s
journey that he would rather move past, as it is filled with guilt and sadness that must eventually be
dealt with. When viewed as a stage in his journey, it seems to be an inciting incident bringing about
his desire to find happiness. The war introduces Ramsay s first true romantic experience, which
produces more trouble in his life. Throughout his journey, romantic endeavours cause Ramsay guilt,
which he deals with to remain sane and happy. While in Britain, he meets a woman whom he loves,
but must abandon, moving on and dealing with the

Developing Children s (3 8 years) Mathematical Skills
E1
There are different national frameworks and policies that are used for the development of
mathematical learning from 3 to 8 years old.
One of these is the Childcare Act 2006. The Childcare Act is an update on the Children Act 2004. It
basically makes sure that local authorities reduce any inequalities in their individual areas by
providing an integrated service for children and their families. They make it so that each local area has
the appropriate provision to help the care and learning of all children aged 3 or 4, and a free minimum
amount of provision should be available. Parents have a right to obtain information for their child, and

This could become an activity by ordering the bricks or sorting the bricks into different colours or
different shapes and sizes. This could be an activity for an age range of between 3 5 years old,
depending on the mathematical development of the individual children.
E4
The seven strands that are part of the mathematical framework are: * Using and applying mathematics
* Counting and understanding number * Knowing and using number facts * Calculating *
Understanding shape * Measuring * Handling data *
The first activity of water play with different sized beakers, would come under the measuring strand of
the mathematical framework, but could also come under the understanding shape strand due to the fact
that there were beakers being used that were different sizes and possibly shape, for example even
though beakers are usually cylinders, there could have been some beakers used that were cuboids or
even pyramids to help with creativity since beakers don t have to all be the same so children broaden
their horizons and think outside the box .
The second activity which involved coloured bricks would come under the Understanding shape
strand of the mathematical framework but perhaps could also come under Calculating, if the bricks
had numbers on the or if you were counting the bricks or if the activity involved having a 2 or 3
groups of bricks with different

Space Shuttle Challenger Research Paper
The Space Shuttle Challenger was originally a test vehicle for the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA). In 1979, NASA ordered Challenger to be converted to a space rated orbiter,
which consisted of massive disassembly and restructuring of the orbiter. It was delivered back to
NASA as the second orbiter in their fleet of Space Shuttles in July 1982, where it was launched on its
first mission on 4 April 1983. Crew members conducted the first spacewalk of the Space Shuttle
program on this mission, and subsequent missions saw many other firsts for space exploration history
(1). Over Challenger s lifetime of three years, nine missions of various basis were successfully
completed (2).

Initial thrust built up while the shuttle was secured to the launch pad, and it was released without issue
and traveled upward as designed (5). No issues were noticed by the crew, officials, or observers at the
time of launch. Subsequent review of camera footage, however, reveals smoke emanating at a cyclic
rate of approximately 4 puffs per second from the aft field joint (AFJ) on the right SRB. As the shuttle
left the launch pad, the smoke dissipated from view. The next 55 seconds occurred without issue for
Challenger. All systems worked as programmed; notably, the automated guidance system was
particularly active on this flight due to record high wind shears experienced by the shuttle, yet
continued to be very effective. At 58.788 seconds after launch, flame appeared at the same location on
the starboard SRB s AFJ as the smoke had at launch. This flame continued to spread to the external
tank (ET) connection ring, then to the ET itself. It breached the ET, which housed liquid hydrogen
(LH2) and liquid oxygen (LO2) fuel for the shuttle s main engines. A large, visible flash surrounded
the stern of the shuttle system, all while the crew carried out normal navigational maneuvers. The
shuttle s engines shut down 73.5 seconds after launch due to lack of fuel, and all signals were lost at
74 seconds following a bright flash around the nose of the ET and orbiter

Moral Panics And Media Panics
Moral Panics and Media Panics
A moral panic is a phenomenon that is examined and understood in an unbiased fashion. This type of
panic locates a folk devil, is shared, remains out of synch with the seriousness it evokes, and varies in
intensity over time (Goode and Ben Yehuda, 41). On the other hand, a media panic is a moral panic
about the effects of a communications medium of technology (Class lecture: January 27, 2016).
Overall, a moral panic is based upon the reaction of society from an event while a media panic is the
reaction of society from a type of technology. This paper looks to examine the similarities and
differences between surveillance in the government today and surveillance in the government during
the Cold War. It will address the effects these events have or had on society while examining specific
media panics that played a role in society s reactions to these historical events. By providing evidence
to prove how these panics affect society, I will examine why these moral and media panics exist and
the impact they have had on society as a whole.
A moral panic develops in a society when there is some type of threat looking to harm the society in
some way. The threat of a nuclear attack by the USSR and its possible plan to control society through
communism aided in the development of a moral panic during the Cold War era (Cold War History).
American fears continued to grow as the relationship between the two countries became very tense

How The Staining Of The Centromere Sequences Using Fish
How the staining of the centromere sequences using FISH can be used to determine the sex of
metaphase chromosomes and how immunostaining of the synaptomenal complex of meiotic cells can
show the stages involved in prophase.
Abstract
Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) and immunostaining are both processes that allow for
specific features within a chromosome to be observed. FISH is when a DNA probe that is
fluorescently tagged complementary binds to a specific sequence in the chromosome, in this case, the
sex chromosome centromeres. Immunostaining is the process where a primary antibody specifically
binds to a protein of interest, then a fluorescently tagged secondary antibody complementary binds to
the primary antibody, thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because X chromosomes display a red signal, whereas the Y chromosome presents a green
signal. Therefore, since females have two X chromosomes and males have a single X and Y
chromosome, the sex of the cell donor can be identified (Moers et al 1995).
Meiosis is a form of cell division that halves the amount of chromosomes in sexually reproducing
organisms (Bernstein et al 2011) to form gametes. In meiotic cell division, DNA replication is
followed by two rounds of cell division to create four daughter cells, each with half the amount of
chromosomes as the parent. Meiosis is split into two round called Meiosis I and Meiosis II and each
round of meiosis is made up of four stages called prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. The
longest, most complex stage of meiosis is Prophase I as it is split into 5 phases called lepotene,
zygotene, pachytene, diplotene, and diakinesis (Tworzydlo et al 2016). In these stages of prophase,
chromosome pairing, synaptomenal complex formation, and recombination occur. The formation of
the synaptomenal complex allows for the chromosomes to know if they have successfully paired. This
complex can be stained by SPC3 as it binds to the lateral elements of the synaptomenal complex. In
this practical, immunostaining process allows for it to be confirmed which proteins are associated with
the meiotic chromosomes. This immunostaining process

The National Football Industry
The sporting franchise industry is highly competitive, and must remain competitive of emerging
trends in technology, and consumers. Sports franchises monitor these trends in order to plan a strategy
for marketing event tickets and advertisements. Moreover, there must obtain multiple sources of
revenue in order to be successful.
In the case of the National Football League, one of the trends is the rise of acceptance and viewership
of soccer in the United States. The NFL must closely monitor this emerging trend and create a strategy
that retains its current loyal fan base. When creating a marketing plan for the NFL events, the

Whale Hunting In America Case Study

endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption?**
In America, it is believed that whales and dolphins are mammals who are intelligent, are capable of
learning, and should have the right to be free (Brain Power). Because of this, and as a superpower, the
U.S. is able to use their economic influence to ban the killing of these mammals (Culture and
Globalization). Norway and Japan, whose fishing and whale hunting traditions go back centuries,
believe they should have an exemption from this whale hunting ban on cultural grounds, especially
since the whales they hunt are not endangered and therefore there should not be an environmental

high variable cost on hiring skilled staff and expensive equipment. The report moves onto the process
design, which provides explanation of the companies assumed flow chart, which are customer
purchase order, sales order, determine the quantity, create a work order, assemble the bike, package the
bike, create packaging slip and invoice and final stage is ship to the customer and the value stream
map, which both can be viewed at the appendices 1.9.2.1 and 1.9.2.2. The capacity discusses the
future capacity requirements over next five years the company should consider, how much they need
to produce, and think if they have the capability to meet the production goals. Furthermore the
suggested expansion strategy is match capacity strategy. For location for the assembly plant and
warehouses the company should consider: the infrastructure of the building and its area, cost of
labour, and location of the most attracted customer locations and the overall recommendation is the Mt
Wellington near the motorway. The reason behind the designed factory layout (refer to 1.9.3 in
appendices) was the time efficiency to design the different departments close together as possible also
added staff room for the workers to take a break. For the location of finished goods storage room

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
There s nothing better than a comedy to lift your spirits up with baskets full of laughter. I like the idea
of comedies when there s a complete misunderstanding, trickery or when things go wrong. For
example in one of the episodes of My Wife and Kids when a girl called Claire tells her dad that there
will be photograph day in school. So she asks her dad for a massive photograph of her to put on the
wall. Her dad said no. On the day of the school photograph when she woke up, her right cheek was
swollen much bigger than the other. As persuaded by her parents she reluctantly went to school. When

This trickery is later taken too far, causing Malvolio detrimental distress. Trickery is also displayed in
the duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario. Sir Toby s delight in practical jokes is once again illustrated
as he plans good sport between Sir Andrew and Cesario, but of course always the assumption that no
harm will be done and his arrangements will so fright them both that they will kill one another by the
look, like cockatrices . Sir Toby was right. When Sir Andrew and Cesario come face to face they are
so frightened that it takes some time for the duel to kick in .The duel is one of the high points of the
comedy. Equally absurd is the fact that the pretended duel is the fact that the pretended duel is fought
over Olivia who Cesario has rejected her love and Sir Andrew thinks he has a chance with Olivia that
he enters a duel on her behalf. Before the duel took place Cesario is worried Pray God defend me! A
little thing would make me tell them how much I lack of man Viola speaks in prose which shows how
worried and endanger of her true identity being discovered.

Human beings, desire to maintain a connection with the past is achieved through the languages
spoken, the various cultures practiced, and sadly through acquiring of cultural property by the means
of grave robbing. Native Americans wanted justice for these past mistreatments and control over their
history. According to Chip Colwell, campaigning, repatriation of indigenous artifacts began in the
1960s by indigenous activism. Finally, on November 16, 1990, The United States Government passed

The federal government s intentions are pure with the passing of NAGPRA. However, NAGPRA has a
considerable number of debatable implications regarding Native Americans. To fall under NAGPRA s
jurisdiction, a tribe is required to have federal recognition. Federal recognition requires a cultural
group, such as Native Americans, to abide by federal standards. Non compliance is an issue prevalent
today regarding institutions and companies; the lack of compliance is rooted in the absence of strong
restrictions and penalties for institutions and companies. International politics inhibit the act of global
reparation. International representatives and museum officials leading repatriation processes, results in
a more efficient way of returning artifacts to the rightful owner without political restrictions. All in all,
the Native American Graves Protection Act made significant important changes over the years,
however, with ever advancing United States and American Indian Tribes the outdated act is in need of

Women s Unequal Treatment Of Women
Virtually, every known society past and present, women have not been treated as an equal to men.
According to (UN NATIONS WEBSITE DEFINITON OF UNEQUAL TREATMENT of women
CITATION HERE)it is unequal treatment of individuals based on their gender. UN agencies and most
governments agree on the principle of gender inequality. The question at large is what accounts for the
difference between the rhetoric of equality and the reality of inequality? The single aspect of gender
inequality of men and women is that women obtain insufficient pay from their male counterparts in
the workforce. Throughout this paper the reader will recognize the role that the international and
traditional norms that society takes part of in women receiving equal pay. Secondly, this essay will
discuss the patriarchal manifestation within the women wage gap and how it has been resisted by the

for women.
The role that international and traditional norms have is that women are paid less than men. Women in
most countries earn on average only 60 to 75 per cent of men s wages (World Bank Gender Data
Portal 2014). On the international scene there are many laws and goals they state that is equal or that
should be equal pay between men and women, however, that does that seem to happen. On average a

Abstract
This paper explores the factors that contribute to the recidivism rate of juvenile offenders. Recidivism
refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person receives sanctions or
undergoes intervention for a previous crime. It explains the advantages and disadvantages that
intervention programs, extracurricular activities, education and home and family life have on juvenile
offenders. A juvenile offender is defined as a child or young person who has been found guilty of
some offence, act of vandalism, or antisocial behavior before a juvenile court (Gelber, 1979). The
articles used in this paper are used to inform the reader of various ways to help reduce the recidivism
rate of juvenile offenders. Some of the articles explain the advantages and others explain the
disadvantages of the various programs.

Although the classroom was quiet I could hear otherwise. I let my imagination take over and I heard

was noise from the tree branches rattling. Often I could hear the hooves of a horse clattering against

concentrate from time to time. There are many different noises I hear when I reminisce about autumn.
When I concentrated hard enough I could actually taste the foods which I had previously smelled.

Walden Location Essay
In Thoreau s novel, Walden, the reader is introduced to Thoreau s world and how it is greatly impacted
by location. Thoreau begins his project by moving away from civilization and searching for a place to
live. He finds his temporary home at Walden Pond, where he starts with few resources and little
outside inputs. Thoreau even has to borrow the axe that he uses to cut down trees to make his home
for the next two years. Thoreau asserts that his experiment, moving to Walden Pond, is not permanent.
Walden Pond is, however, the foundation precept of how location impacts one s way of life. The place
one live shapes the way one live and how one interact with the world around oneself.
Before Thoreau makes the bold decision of living in seclusion, he lives in a community. Thoreau
decides to move away from civilization so that he can find himself. He believes that he ... Show more

He sees the parts of nature around him as actual beings that have feelings. Though personifying nature
may seem strange, doing so is what prevents Thoreau from becoming lonely. Thoreau even goes as far
as to write, I am no more lonely than a single mullein or dandelion in a pasture, or a bean leaf, or
sorrel, or a horse fly, or a bumble bee (pg #). Thoreau is content with the place he lives and becomes
one with the nature that surrounds him.
Thoreau makes use of the land and nature around him at Walden Pond. He plants two and a half acres
of beans that he farms. This shows that Thoreau is adaptive and learns to work with nature. The rain
that comes and goes helps his crops grow. Thoreau relies on the place he lives to sustain himself. He
trades his beans with others for food, and makes a profit off of the land on which he lives. The place
that he inhabits becomes his main concern and priority. This helps readers to understand why the place
one lives and treats as one s home has such an effect on one s way of

The Volcanic Eruption Of Volcanoes
Geologic Processes
Volcanoes are one of the most beautiful and yet destructive forces naturally occurring on our planet.
As the Earth s population continues to grow, more people move closer and closer to volcanoes.
Currently, an estimated 500 million people from Japan to Indonesia, and from Italy to Oregon, live
near active volcanoes. Each year, approximately 70 volcanoes will erupt, and usually at least once
every ten years, there will be a large volcanic eruption that puts the people living both near and far in
danger (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2005).
As populations continue to increase and more people are attracted to the beauty surrounding these
areas, the number of people choosing to beauty of an area over the known dangers of living ... Show

While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic
mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes through
fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure eruption.
Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a
wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure
will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack
or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure
from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is
called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be relatively small or very large. For example, the
Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000 square kilometers and extends over the states of
Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape America, n.d.).
Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have different
proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava (greater than 95%)
with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon State University, n.d.).
Other volcanoes may have more cinder ash than lava.

Big Fridge Short Story
Big Fridge Yesterday was the day that everything went wrong in the house. I woke up from a
terrifying dream about Jason Shoe stealing some of my food. The reason that this was so scary is that
to do it, he snipped my cord using Bennett Scissors. If that were to actually happen, I would be put
into a coma instantly. Chase Duct Tape would then have to tape my cords back together and my food
would be spoiled. If my food spoils then I will have to have surgery to replace my insides. This would
cost my owner lots of money. Anyways, after the dream I started getting very nervous about people

What Role Did Samurai Play In Japanese Culture
Tradition played a major role in Shogunate Japan. Every role and ritual that each person took place in
had multiple traditions and meanings embedded in it. This had an enormous effect on the overall way
in which Japanese society functioned. In the following report, the role that traditions played in art,
samurai, daily life and geography during the 17th to 19th century had on Japanese society will be
explored and uncovered.
SAMURAI (WARRIORS) OF JAPAN:
The samurai held a very important role in the Tokugawa society. Tradition influenced the way in
which the samurai were able to perform during battle and their efficiency. Bushido meant the way of
the warrior. He who practised the code of bushido was expected to act honourably, faithfully ... Show

Traditional kimonos were worn by every class, except for the samurai; they wore a two piece set
called the hakama. As the Meiji Revolution was in the workings, a widespread of silkworm disease hit
Europe. As Japan was an isolated country, they were easily able to avoid this disease, produce and sell
Japanese silk at an astounding price. The traditional art of raising silkworms and spinning their threads
was recognised as the way in which Japan s new economy was able to re negotiate its imbalanced
agreements and restore its power. This is because Shogunate Japan had the advantage of silk and
silkworms over Europe and their countries. Because the material was so expensive, only the upper
classes were able to wear their kimonos made out of silk. The farmers, merchants and artisan s
kimonos were made out of cotton or hemp. As Japanese traditions revolved around religion and
philosophy, Buddhism influenced what many people ate. Meat in this religion was strongly
discouraged, so the Japanese civilization ate what they could easily get a hold on. These foods mainly
included rice, vegetables and seafood. As Shinto was practised throughout Japanese society, a culture
developed that created an appreciation towards all life in nature and arts. The contribution of daily life
in Japanese society helped gain its maximum potential. People were able to get use out of the

The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives

Safe Driving Saves Lives
Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of us
being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we haven t
been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things
before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. We may think
we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t even be able to
react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under the influence,
speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t matter how long
we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very bad outcome and
can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become a major factor and
find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening.
An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks about
some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. Kennerly states, Nearly
half of the 2015 fatalities involved an unbelted passenger or driver and about one third were alcohol
related. Wow, that is a big number. This quote clearly shows us that wearing our seatbelt can save us

Factors That Increase Sales The Online Marketplace
Optimize Strength
LV has a longstanding tradition of quality, innovation and heritage of over 150 years by following
three rules which were: to master the savoir faire, to provide excellent service to customers and to
innovate continuously. The corporation has also produced an online market used as a channel to
provide access to a larger customer base. To boost sales the online marketplace should be opened to
China and other Asian markets since these markets possess large populations. LV has also advanced
the efficiency of its production system through the introduction of manufacturing methods motivated
by the lean production techniques utilized by Toyota Motors. At its peak, efficiency was enhanced by
5 per cent per year, through a more sustainable rate was assumed to be 3 per cent per year. To optimize
this strength the company must grow and increase production, in order to reduce its costs and become
more profitable. The corporation has also lessened the level of specialization of an employee and
trained employees in various activities. This is can be improved by hiring fewer workers since the
company can shift groups to manufacture different products in response to changes in demand.
Marketing and advertising can have a tremendous influence on the value perceived by consumers and
hence the willingness to pay more for the company s offerings. The LV lifestyle is sought after by
consumers. LV products send the image of wealth and convey exclusivity. It has brand loyalty,

The Blues, A Genre Of Music
Does one have to be black and from the south to play the blues?
The blues, a genre of music so well known and so universal, that one knows is associated with black
culture; and forever connected to it. However, some may argue that not anyone can play the blues and
blues is only black music. That being said, does it matter what the skin color of an individual may be
to play the blues? In contrast I strongly believe anyone can play the blues because music is the purest
form of creativity and communication.
The reality is that today it is seen it all over, countless of people from many parts of the globe perform
this genre of music known as The Blues. It is played by the millions and by many different races some
of which are not from the south; but is it wrong for them to play it? Certain individuals may believe
that playing the blues, one has to be black to even be considered. There is an individual who argues
that one needs to really have The Blues to play them and it is only black music. (Harris, 2015 n.p) On
the other hand I would consider that the culture or race of the performer does not matter. People from
all races and backgrounds experience the blues, this genre of music has become universal; it is a part
of world music now. it is wonderful to think that a genre of music once viewed as wrong or barbaric
has become so well popularized and loved.
When one thinks of the blues one almost always pictures a lone black man in his guitar singing his
troubles away.

Selective Breeding and Mammal Cloning
Demonstrate understanding of human manipulations of genetic transfer and its biological implications

Selective breeding is the result of human manipulation of genetic transfer. It uses the same principle as
natural selection. However, natural selection is the process of selection by the environment
whereas;selective breeding is a form artificial selection by humans. Hence, selective breeding can be
defined as the artificial process by which desirable or specific traits are selected to produce ideal breed
of animals.
This process of artificial selection is nothing recent as agriculture began thousands of years ago.
Selective breeding however did commence with selection of plants containingdesired traits with the
purpose of producing bigger and easier to harvest grains with a greater yield.
As the decades progressed, technology became widespread and selective breeding started producing
animals for meat, milk, clothes, eggs and several other human desires. Due to selective breeding, a
smaller number of animals were required yet they produced a large amounts and better quality
products. This was possible as the animals were being genetically manipulatedso that they contained
desired traits.
Similar is the case of birds especially chickens and turkeys whose are meat widely popular in a range
of cuisines. There are two different types of

waiting to pick them up so Tucker will have backup if someone attacks him in Volgograd. Another
reason I think they will make it is, their car went into the water so any electronics that could be used to

their inclusion of shark fin soup in the Chinese banquet style reception of their Fairy Tale Wedding

environmentalists worldwide including Hong Kong. The reason for conducting their program was
because of protests and worldwide criticism from environmental groups. Disney s program was
reactive because the addition of shark fin soup in their Chinese wedding reception banquet was an
attempt to incorporate a cultural mainstay which obviously rebounded resulting in their reacting to
criticism instead of anticipating it. It s unclear from the case study whether HKD researched this topic
before it became an issue but it is evident they did research this topic during the campaign consisting
of secondary research that was regurgitated as part of their program. Although in hindsight it is hard to

Analysis Of The Article Some Lessons From The Assembly Line
The article Some Lessons From the Assembly Line by Andrew Braaksma is a rollercoaster ride that
takes the reader through the lessons that taught him to take nothing for granted. This is accomplished
by primarily showing the reader the life of an assembly line worker, but then will take jumps to show
the life he has at college. To take nothing for granted seems like such a simple and common lesson
that it really should be known by people long before they start working. This however is not the case
as Braaksma does a great job of telling his readers that even he did not have this down. His own life
lessons told throughout the article put it all in perspective and gave him the full grasp in the idea. The
main claim of Some Lessons From the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lesson Braaksma taught is a great one that needs a little bit of examination to become even clearer
and greater. It goes from reading about school to the factory and back again. The highs and lows will
shift back and forth as well to help strengthen his points creating that perfect puzzle. With just lows,
the reading would be boring, and with just highs, everything would seem to be a main point, even
when it is not. Which is why the money, the factory life, and even the end are perfect highs. To take
nothing for granted is to become a better person. It gives a better perspective on everything. Taking
something for granted will only show greed or self entitlement which could lead to sadness or even
anger. For instance, if one takes clean water for granted, they will always expect it, or not be thankful
enough for how important it is. If they do not take it for granted than they will be thankful for a glass
of clean water as they will realize it will not always be there. Taking nothing for granted is a simple
and important, but often missed lesson that a lot of people may need to learn. Andrew Braaksma told
his story and how he learned this lesson for others to see though Some Lessons From the Assembly

Szymborska Relationship
Szymborska s display of her relationship with and between poetry and society over time through
Poetry Reading and Stage Fright
Although the majority of her poetry was written about the political and global happenings in her time,
Szymborska wrote a fair number of poems about poetry. These poems served as her hotline to society,
a glimpse into her personal life and an example of the lives of similar poets. Szymborska clearly felt a
conflict between herself and society s relationship with poetry. Although her depiction of her feelings
changed over time, there was a common theme of discomfort or confusion. Szymborska visits the
topic of poetry through her poems to share her opinion as it grows and changes. Szymborska displayed

Throughout the poem, the complains about how unfairly poetry is viewed in society, and almost
sarcastically questions an unidentifiable person, possibly society as a whole, are you serious? Is this
really what you expect of me? Poetry is put on as a show as something more than it is. Upset by this
unfair portrayal, Szymborska rhetorically questions why it has come to be like this, and if people truly
expect her to go along with it. This is uniquely shown by her use of em dashes in place of question
marks, and ending the poem with a question mark. She is clearly upset with how she is flaunted, when
in reality her life is quite simple. She compares herself to a clumsy ersatz angel , a cheap substitute for
a figure revered as peculiar (179). In Poetry Reading , Szymborska is let down by the lack of interest
in poetry. However she now is disgusted by the cheap exploitation of a rather humble career. However,
Szymborska s calmness about poetry itself stays true to Poetry Reading . When referring to the poems
themselves, she does not take care to describe the details. She states the actuality of her life, such as
writing by the light of an ordinary bulb / to the typewriter s tap tap tap (179). To Szymborska s
disgust, society now uses poetry, which it once pushed aside, as an outlet for exaggerated
entertainment.

Debt Free College Education
Although the present role of higher education is contested, its origins aren t. Higher education in the
US was created as a way to maintain class distinctions. The old Puritan model of the American
university was a religious haven for students of wealthy families who attended in order to become
clergymen. Graduates would then move on to becoming leaders in other branches of the church,
thereby leading their own communities and essentially generating essentially an upper class of
ministers. Though the religious presence at these institutions has largely diminished, the

State funded schools would see an increase in applications as well as enrollment of students that
would have taken out debt. Consequently, there would be a more competitive admissions landscape
for public colleges and for profit schools would see a decline in enrollment as it is seen as a cheaper,
but much more risky option to two year public colleges and the proposal would make a superior
option more affordable. It s unclear as to whether the proposal would lead to an increase in available
space at universities as creation of additional space at public universities would require additional
funding from the state governments, which, historically, has been declining. If additional funding is
allowed and public school capacity is expanded, for profit schools would see a massive decline in
enrollment. In both cases, four year non profit universities would experience little to no effect because
the demographics within the four year non profit institutions, which typically have the highest average
tuition rates, are even more skewed towards the students of wealthier backgrounds. The college

Hayden Yost Dr. Burns Eng 101 Nov. 15th, 2017 Is Juice Fasting Alone Enough for College Students?
Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step
towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term
changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a
diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its
facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first
started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as
the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross,
recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. This, combined with his realizing what is
bound to happen if nothing changes pushes Cross to making the decision to shift his life onto a path
promising a much happier future. The documentary begins with a melancholic but determined Joe
Cross and follows his 60 day travels across the United States sharing his journey, goal, and progress
made under the juice fast. As time passes, the viewer witnesses the changes Cross experiences, as he
grows more optimistic, outgoing, and determined to where he chooses to incorporate regular exercise
alongside his juice fast journey. To say a juice fast provides no benefits would be a

Liberal Arts Education In Plato s The Allegory Of The Cave
Patrick Awuah, the founder of Ashesi University, explains that the purpose of a liberal arts college is
to educate free men and woman to become leaders. Ashei was the first non profit liberal arts college in
West Africa. Patrick saw the need for a liberal arts education because he felt that the current leaders of
Africa did not have the creative thinking skills necessary to fix the problems threatening Africa. He
believed that a liberal arts education teaches students how to confront complex problems and create
new and important ideas. The key trait of a liberal arts education is that it teaches students how to
think creatively and allows them space to develop their own thinking skills, it creates a good balance
between societal and scientific knowledge. new sentence/rephrase
The Skidmore College Mission Statement emphasizes the importance of a never ending quest for
knowledge . This outlines one key part of a liberal arts education, the understanding that knowledge is
limitless and there will always be more questions to ask. This idea is conveyed in Plato s The Allegory
of the Cave, in this story, shadows on a wall represented the whole world to prisoners until one was
enlightened and saw the real world. Until enlightenment, the prisoners had no way of knowing that
they were looking at shadows their entire life, because we don t know about the knowledge that we
have not yet discovered. In the same way, we don t know the answers to questions we have not
thought of. It

Examples Of The Kidnapping Of Charles Lindbergh Jr.
The Kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh Jr.
What man is so cold hearted to murder a baby just to try to acquire some money? Charles Lindbergh
Jr. was kidnapped in attempts to get some ransom money from his wealthy father, the famous pilot
Charles Lindbergh. The murder of the child almost seemed to be an accident and that it was a slip up
in the plan to kidnap the child. The man that all evidence points to and that was convicted was Bruno
Richard Hauptmann, but a man named John Knoll might have been the mastermind behind the
kidnapping and murder Charles Lindbergh Jr. The 20 month old baby, Charles Lindbergh Jr., was
murdered on the day of March 1, 1932. He had just been put to sleep by his nurse, who was the last
person to see the youngest child alive, when he was taken from his crib in the nursery on the second
floor ( Lindbergh Kidnapping ). His body was accidentally found on May 12, 1932, half buried in the
woods, 45 feet from a highway. The body s location was only four and a half miles away from the
Lindbergh estate. When Lindbergh Jr. s body was found, his head was smashed, his skull had a hole in
it, and was missing body members. The coroner s examination placed the time of death about two
months prior, placing the time of death in March, the same time he was kidnapped ( Lindbergh
Kidnapping ). After completing the report, it is obvious that a deeper look into the unsolved murder is
the next step. Nothing will be overlooked; no information let slip between the cracks.

Erin Brockovich Axis Of Privilege
In social interactions, people often categorize one another, which in turn creates and reproduces
systems of privilege. Individuals holding power often retain the cycle of categorization to maintain
their privilege, but by doing so, cast outliers or people belonging to multiple groups at a disadvantage
as their multiple classifications may fall at different axis of privilege. Axis of privilege refers to the
concept that one classification can put an individual in a favorable or less than favorable position
depending on the dichotomy of the classification. For example, we acknowledge being black and
being a woman as two distinct categories that place individuals with a disadvantage in society, but we
never reconcile the doubled disadvantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an unemployed single mother of three with no education, life is already hard, but becomes even
more difficult when she becomes injured in a traffic accident, having to health insurance. Referred to
another law firm in her attempt to sue for compensation, Erin meets the lawyer, Ed Masry, who
reluctantly takes on her case as it is slam dunk in which she was at no fault. However, in cross
examination, the opposing attorney discredits Erin s reputation, using her unemployment and two
failed marriages against her. The opposing attorney attempts to blameshift the cause of the accident to
Erin as his client is a wealthy white male neurosurgeon who could not possibly be capable of driving
recklessly, and therefore Erin must have been responsible for the crash since she is a desperate woman
looking for a meal ticket. Erin loses her temper in light of these false allegations, especially since she
was a victim in the crash, and consequently, loses her case. Erin s loss exemplifies how
intersectionality along with the matrix of domination factor into every facet of our lives, including the
court system a system that supposedly achieves blind justice; but clearly, Erin s position as an
outspoken woman living in poverty, created a system of injustice in which she could not prevail.
Temporarily disabled from the accident with no money for food, a sick daughter, and cockroaches
roaming around her floor, Erin takes action and demands that Masry give her a position at his law
office as he reassured her beforehand that everything would be fine. Masry, taking pity on her
situation, gives her a job with no benefits and has very low expectations due to her temper and
unprofessional attire that exposes her assets. Within the office, Erin is also dismissed by her co
workers and becomes ostracized in such that the other women in the office exclude her

Cloud Computing And Google App Engine Development
Cloud Computing and Google App Engine development
About cloud computing:
Cloud computing is a term coined for a recent trend towards service oriented cluster
computing/processing based on certain SLA and other benefits. It provides simplified and automated
process for configuring, deployment, maintenance and easy process to manage the resources. The
offering of different clouds (Azure, google, AWS etc.) may differ, but what s common among them is
Virtualization and performance isolation for per user/application.
Cloud computing can broadly be classified into 3 broad categories:
Software as a service SaaS describes a system in which high level functionality software as an on
demand is hosted by a cloud and shared to end client using thin client application via internet. The
main feature of SaaS systems is that the API offered to the cloud client is for a complete software
service. The SaaS Cloud provider may charge end user based on number of users or number of
requests hit on hosted API. Example Sales Force.
Platform as a service PaaS refers to the availability of scalable services through an interface from
which restricted network accessible, applications written in high level languages (Java,.net, python
etc.) can be created. Two examples of PaaS systems are Google App Engine (GAE) and Microsoft
Azure.
Infrastructure as a Service IaaS describes a services for provisioning virtualized operating system
instances, storage, and network capacity under contract from a

Women s Roles In The Tang Dynasty
Women s role in Ancient Chinese civilisation was always vital to society due to their role in the family
and during the Tang and Song dynasty significant changes occurred, changing Chinese women s lives
forever. While it is no secret women were inferior to men in the history of China, not many are aware
of the major differences of the status of women from dynasty to dynasty. The Tang Song dynasties
ruled from 618AD to 1279 AD and many distinct differences between these two dynasties can be
observed. Women s role in these dynasties primarily included domestic duties, with the introduction of
new roles to the female gender. Their role was very important to society as the woman of the family
ran the household and as that was the most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is known for being flourished with women rights. The Song dynasty s society definitely had its
differences to Tang, For instance, the prime minister of the Song dynasty might take a bath in the same
public bath house as everyone else, which would be unthinkable in the Tang Dynasty , (Wang, 2003).
This is quoted from a secondary source from a professor studying Chinese history and shows how
different the societies were between the two. Men were still greatly superior to women in this period.
In contrast with the Tang dynasty, women in this period despite it following the Tang dynasty, were
not allowed into positions of great importance like government officials or be involved in politics and
were just expected to stay at home and take care of the household. But women of this period, unlike
those of Tang, were had equal societal and legal rights that enabled them to control their own dowry,
able to establish small businesses and were equal to men when it came to terms of inheritance, (Yuan,
1984). Essentially, Tang dynasty women were bolder and more active in the society where the women
of the Song dynasty were more academically inclined and well reserved and respectful. Although the
society themselves were different in certain aspects, women s role between the two were similar. Both
of these dynasties were divided by gender,

Dantes Inferno.
Imperfect Punishments
Imagine a place where tyrants stand up to their ears in boiling blood, the gluttonous experience
monsoons of human filth, and those who commit sins of the flesh are blown about like pieces of paper
in a never ending wind storm. Welcome to Dante s Inferno, his perspective on the appropriate
punishments for those who are destined to hell for all eternity. Dante attempts to make the
punishments fit the crimes, but because it is Dante dealing out the tortures and not God, the
punishments will never be perfect because by nature, man is an imperfect creature. Only God is
capable of being above reproach and of metering out a just punishment. While Dante s treatment
towards the tyrants is fitting, his views on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being constantly stung by wasps and forced to chase a white flag would be mentally and physically
exhausting and seems to be a torture straight out of hell... yet they aren t even technically in hell. On
the other hand, in Limbo one merely walks around and talks to other luckless souls, which does not
seem to be a punishment constant with what other sinners face in hell. Dante correctly assigned the
right punishments to each group of sinners, but he misplaced both groups. Limbo should be outside of
Hell because they did not have the knowledge of either Heaven or Hell. The Ante Inferno should be
the first level of Hell, reserved for those who knew about Heaven and Hell, choose neither side, and
now must face the fact that by their indecision, are bound to suffer in Hell.
While Dante may have geographically misplaced these two groups of sinners, he did correctly punish
most of the sinners in Hell. For example, the river of blood in which boils everyone / Whose violence
hurt others (Canto XII 41 42) describes the perfect punishment for those who were violent while they
were alive. The degree of the violence committed also factors into the punishment. Tyrants who
slaughtered many people are completely covered in boiling blood, while those who were violent
against only a few suffer with blood up to their torsos. This is the perfect punishment because violence
is a crime of

Shooting And Elephant By George Orwell
The Cost of Dignity
Although George Orwell is more commonly known for his works such as 1984 or Animal Farm,
another one of his great short stories is Shooting and Elephant. The story discusses a time in which
George is faced with a difficult decision dealing with what the people near him wanted and what he
knew was morally right. This moral dilemma obviously played a large role in the type of person
Orwell became. The story not only lines up with his ideals about government and imperialism, he is
still visited by the events that happened to him in Burmese. Orwell served as an imperial guard, and
this frustrated him to no end. Being part of a system that he hated was difficult for him to stomach. At
the time, India was controlled by Britain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being born in the Machine that is imperialism, showed Orwell the flaws of the politically oppressing a
group of people. He was born to Eric Arthur Blair, but was quickly taken to England and never had
much contact with his father until he retired and returned to England. He was sent to boarding school
and there he began to realize the difference between having money and not. After leaving the boarding
school, the next stop for orwell was college in which he got a scholarship to both Eaton and
Wellington college. This was a huge success for him but landed him in a proverbial writers block. He
wanted to continue his studies but his family was not able to financially help him. So instead he
decided to follow in his father s footsteps and joined the imperial guard. These five years were said to
be awful for George, but it is where he got the inspiration to write this short story. Orwell had a
difficult time after his stint in the guard as well. Coming out, he landed a job as a dishwasher and
struggled to keep himself afloat as he tried to get many stories published. He and his wife then moved
to Spain and joined the civil war that was brewing in the country at the time. He was nearly fatally
wounded from a gunshot he received while he was in the militia, but he survived. Unfortunately, he
was now labeled as a traitor and had to flee the country. When returning to England the couple
adopted a son and George contracted tuberculosis. He had to fight it throughout the rest of his life
leaving him sickly all the time. At this point in Orwell s life, he began to settle down. He became a
critic and took on a few writing assignments until he landed a job as a BBC producer. During this time
WWII was happening just a few countries away and he found himself more of a propagandist rather
than a producer. This is when his

Analysis Of The Movie A Few Good Men Essay
Consequences of Obedience Late one night, two Marines, Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private
First Class Louden Downey carried out a code red on Private First Class William Santiago that
ultimately resulted in Santiago s death. In the film A Few Good Men, nominated for an Academy
Award for best picture and directed by Rob Reiner, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, investigates the crime
and develops his own opinion on whether the murder of Santiago was ethically stable in terms of
Dawson and Downey s mental attitude towards their actions. Meanwhile, Dawson and Downey have
difficulty accepting responsibility for their actions. They believe they are not at fault because they
were following orders from Colonel Nathan R. Jessep. Santiago s demise shows that always being
obedient can be a matter of life or death, and going against a superior command can possibly be the
ethically correct action. Jessup is an aggressive and forceful leader who does not like to be mocked or
questioned. Before Santiago s murder, Jessep expresses to Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Andrew
Markinson that transferring Santiago would be weak and not the American way (Reiner), Jessep then
threatens to kill Lieutenant Johnanthan Kendrick if Santiago s next report is not perfect. Although, he
is not the only leader who is unjust in this way. In an experiment, known as The Stanford Prison
Experiment, performed by Philip G. Zimbardo, a professor of psychology at Stanford University, the
guards were given the

  • 2. Comparing Gilgamesh And Book Of Genesis After closely reading the Sumerians story of the flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Hebrew story of the flood in the Book of Genesis, it is clearly seen that these two stories have obvious similarities. While there are many differences as well both of the stories help to explain the relationship the ancient people had with their Gods. In the Book of Genesis and in the Epic of Gilgamesh many similarities can be seen. First similarity is seen when God or several gods as in Gilgamesh deciding to destroy all humankind because of its evil and Wickedness (Genesis 6:5). Here in both stories it is shown that the God/Gods regretted making human beings and all of the other species as well and would do whatever to fix their mistake. Second, ... • 3. The Resurrection Of Former Prisons Across The World Prison Theory The resurrection of former prisons across the world has equally captured the awareness of tourists and scholars alike. While prison museums, as a result of their bleak and in some cases disturbing subject matter, invert the Disney experience, they proceed to exploit a phenomenon known as dark tourism, . . . in which people gravitate to sites associated with war, genocide, and other tragic events for purposes of remembrance education, or even entertainment, (Welch, 1). Generated in order to convey the aforementioned purpose, the museum effect subjects visitors of the prison museums to a multilayered encounter with objects, images and space. Utilizing models such as The Clink, Alcatraz, Eastern State Penitentiary, and Seodaemun prison, this papers purpose is to illustrate the success of the museum effect in achieving its desired ends of remembrance through memorialization, education and culturalization through use of images and space, and entertainment through the use of objects. Space In order to develop a proper understanding of the museum effect, one must understand each aspect that contributes to the effect, the first being space. No prison structure better describes the use of space than Eastern State Penitentiary. Designed by John Haviland, and opened on October 25thth 1829, Eastern State, also known as the model prison is considered to be the world s first true penitentiary. Haviland designed the penitentiary using a new architecture scheme dubbed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ramsay s Journey To Happiness In Fifth Business By Dunstan... Seeing a character s life as a journey in search of truth or meaning may help us to understand a central theme of the work. By studying Dunstan Ramsay s journey towards happiness in Fifth Business, it can be said that guilt must be managed, and not forgotten. Dunstan is motivated by guilt towards happiness during his interactions with Mrs. Dempster, during the First World War, and by the various romantic interests in his life. Davies writes the story of Ramsay s journey in a way that emphasizes the theme of guilt, and more specifically how managing it changes his life for the better. The first stage of Ramsay s journey, Mrs. Dempster s injury, has enormous effects on Ramsay s life, requiring him to make difficult choices for the betterment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ramsay must also leave behind the promise of a wife and stable family to return home. He realizes that he will not be happy if he marries Diana, so he continues on with his life and deals with the guilt he feels for leaving her. The medal and the romantic interest must be dealt with and forgotten by Ramsay, so that he can continue towards enlightenment. However, he is disgusted with his hometown s celebration, realizing it is not a stage in his journey that will bring him happiness. The town goes so far as to burn an effigy of the German emperor, prompting Ramsay to write that, I watched them with a display that mounted towards horror (Davies 102). The Great War serves as a part of Ramsay s journey that he would rather move past, as it is filled with guilt and sadness that must eventually be dealt with. When viewed as a stage in his journey, it seems to be an inciting incident bringing about his desire to find happiness. The war introduces Ramsay s first true romantic experience, which produces more trouble in his life. Throughout his journey, romantic endeavours cause Ramsay guilt, which he deals with to remain sane and happy. While in Britain, he meets a woman whom he loves, but must abandon, moving on and dealing with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cache Level 3 Unit 15 Unit 15 Developing Children s (3 8 years) Mathematical Skills E1 There are different national frameworks and policies that are used for the development of mathematical learning from 3 to 8 years old. One of these is the Childcare Act 2006. The Childcare Act is an update on the Children Act 2004. It basically makes sure that local authorities reduce any inequalities in their individual areas by providing an integrated service for children and their families. They make it so that each local area has the appropriate provision to help the care and learning of all children aged 3 or 4, and a free minimum amount of provision should be available. • 6. Space Shuttle Challenger Research Paper The Space Shuttle Challenger was originally a test vehicle for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In 1979, NASA ordered Challenger to be converted to a space rated orbiter, which consisted of massive disassembly and restructuring of the orbiter. It was delivered back to NASA as the second orbiter in their fleet of Space Shuttles in July 1982, where it was launched on its first mission on 4 April 1983. Crew members conducted the first spacewalk of the Space Shuttle program on this mission, and subsequent missions saw many other firsts for space exploration history (1). Initial thrust built up while the shuttle was secured to the launch pad, and it was released without issue and traveled upward as designed (5). No issues were noticed by the crew, officials, or observers at the time of launch. Subsequent review of camera footage, however, reveals smoke emanating at a cyclic rate of approximately 4 puffs per second from the aft field joint (AFJ) on the right SRB. As the shuttle left the launch pad, the smoke dissipated from view. The next 55 seconds occurred without issue for Challenger. All systems worked as programmed; notably, the automated guidance system was particularly active on this flight due to record high wind shears experienced by the shuttle, yet continued to be very effective. At 58.788 seconds after launch, flame appeared at the same location on the starboard SRB s AFJ as the smoke had at launch. This flame continued to spread to the external tank (ET) connection ring, then to the ET itself. It breached the ET, which housed liquid hydrogen (LH2) and liquid oxygen (LO2) fuel for the shuttle s main engines. A large, visible flash surrounded the stern of the shuttle system, all while the crew carried out normal navigational maneuvers. The shuttle s engines shut down 73.5 seconds after launch due to lack of fuel, and all signals were lost at 74 seconds following a bright flash around the nose of the ET and orbiter ... • 7. Moral Panics And Media Panics Moral Panics and Media Panics A moral panic is a phenomenon that is examined and understood in an unbiased fashion. This type of panic locates a folk devil, is shared, remains out of synch with the seriousness it evokes, and varies in intensity over time (Goode and Ben Yehuda, 41). On the other hand, a media panic is a moral panic about the effects of a communications medium of technology (Class lecture: January 27, 2016). Overall, a moral panic is based upon the reaction of society from an event while a media panic is the reaction of society from a type of technology. This paper looks to examine the similarities and differences between surveillance in the government today and surveillance in the government during the Cold War. It will address the effects these events have or had on society while examining specific media panics that played a role in society s reactions to these historical events. By providing evidence to prove how these panics affect society, I will examine why these moral and media panics exist and the impact they have had on society as a whole. A moral panic develops in a society when there is some type of threat looking to harm the society in some way. The threat of a nuclear attack by the USSR and its possible plan to control society through communism aided in the development of a moral panic during the Cold War era (Cold War History). American fears continued to grow as the relationship between the two countries became very tense (Hadley). During the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. How The Staining Of The Centromere Sequences Using Fish How the staining of the centromere sequences using FISH can be used to determine the sex of metaphase chromosomes and how immunostaining of the synaptomenal complex of meiotic cells can show the stages involved in prophase. Abstract Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) and immunostaining are both processes that allow for specific features within a chromosome to be observed. FISH is when a DNA probe that is fluorescently tagged complementary binds to a specific sequence in the chromosome, in this case, the sex chromosome centromeres. Immunostaining is the process where a primary antibody specifically binds to a protein of interest, then a fluorescently tagged secondary antibody complementary binds to the primary antibody, thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because X chromosomes display a red signal, whereas the Y chromosome presents a green signal. Therefore, since females have two X chromosomes and males have a single X and Y chromosome, the sex of the cell donor can be identified (Moers et al 1995). Meiosis is a form of cell division that halves the amount of chromosomes in sexually reproducing organisms (Bernstein et al 2011) to form gametes. In meiotic cell division, DNA replication is followed by two rounds of cell division to create four daughter cells, each with half the amount of chromosomes as the parent. Meiosis is split into two round called Meiosis I and Meiosis II and each round of meiosis is made up of four stages called prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. The longest, most complex stage of meiosis is Prophase I as it is split into 5 phases called lepotene, zygotene, pachytene, diplotene, and diakinesis (Tworzydlo et al 2016). In these stages of prophase, chromosome pairing, synaptomenal complex formation, and recombination occur. The formation of the synaptomenal complex allows for the chromosomes to know if they have successfully paired. This complex can be stained by SPC3 as it binds to the lateral elements of the synaptomenal complex. In this practical, immunostaining process allows for it to be confirmed which proteins are associated with the meiotic chromosomes. This immunostaining process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of this, and as a superpower, the U.S. is able to use their economic influence to ban the killing of these mammals (Culture and Globalization). • 13. Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare There s nothing better than a comedy to lift your spirits up with baskets full of laughter. I like the idea of comedies when there s a complete misunderstanding, trickery or when things go wrong. For example in one of the episodes of My Wife and Kids when a girl called Claire tells her dad that there will be photograph day in school. So she asks her dad for a massive photograph of her to put on the wall. Her dad said no. On the day of the school photograph when she woke up, her right cheek was swollen much bigger than the other. This trickery is later taken too far, causing Malvolio detrimental distress. Trickery is also displayed in the duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario. Sir Toby s delight in practical jokes is once again illustrated as he plans good sport between Sir Andrew and Cesario, but of course always the assumption that no harm will be done and his arrangements will so fright them both that they will kill one another by the look, like cockatrices . Sir Toby was right. When Sir Andrew and Cesario come face to face they are so frightened that it takes some time for the duel to kick in .The duel is one of the high points of the comedy. Equally absurd is the fact that the pretended duel is the fact that the pretended duel is fought over Olivia who Cesario has rejected her love and Sir Andrew thinks he has a chance with Olivia that he enters a duel on her behalf. Before the duel took place Cesario is worried Pray God defend me! A little thing would make me tell them how much I lack of man Viola speaks in prose which shows how worried and endanger of her true identity being discovered. Marion Hall started her career in reggae music at the age of fifteen, while recording with some local sound systems. Hall s stage persona as Lady Saw is a distinct contrast to her true self, the way she is now and when she was growing up. Her decision involved taking on a name that paid tribute to the influential male deejay, Tenor Saw, and writing lyrics that were heavy on the slack (the term used for extremely explicit sexual lyrics and performances). Most of her songs are heavily influenced by dancehall music and it reflects some of the major issues that are prevalent in the Jamaicans society today. • 21. Walden Location Essay In Thoreau s novel, Walden, the reader is introduced to Thoreau s world and how it is greatly impacted by location. Thoreau begins his project by moving away from civilization and searching for a place to live. He finds his temporary home at Walden Pond, where he starts with few resources and little outside inputs. Thoreau even has to borrow the axe that he uses to cut down trees to make his home for the next two years. Thoreau asserts that his experiment, moving to Walden Pond, is not permanent. Walden Pond is, however, the foundation precept of how location impacts one s way of life. The place one live shapes the way one live and how one interact with the world around oneself. Before Thoreau makes the bold decision of living in seclusion, he lives in a community. Thoreau decides to move away from civilization so that he can find himself. He believes that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes through fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure eruption. Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be relatively small or very large. For example, the Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000 square kilometers and extends over the states of Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape America, n.d.). Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have different proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava (greater than 95%) with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon State University, n.d.). The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives Muhammad Chechi Professor Binder Philosophy 12 30 November 2017 Safe Driving Saves Lives Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of us being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we haven t been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. We may think we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t even be able to react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under the influence, speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t matter how long we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very bad outcome and can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become a major factor and find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening. An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks about some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. It goes from reading about school to the factory and back again. The highs and lows will shift back and forth as well to help strengthen his points creating that perfect puzzle. With just lows, the reading would be boring, and with just highs, everything would seem to be a main point, even when it is not. Which is why the money, the factory life, and even the end are perfect highs. To take nothing for granted is to become a better person. It gives a better perspective on everything. Taking something for granted will only show greed or self entitlement which could lead to sadness or even anger. For instance, if one takes clean water for granted, they will always expect it, or not be thankful enough for how important it is. If they do not take it for granted than they will be thankful for a glass of clean water as they will realize it will not always be there. Witchcraft Violence Against Women Besides continuing a history of physical violence against women to enforce gender expectations, witchcraft accusations also present men with opportunities for economic advancement through property acquisition. Unlike the spontaneity of witch huntings in response to ailments and misfortune, witchcraft accusations against widows are carefully calculated attacks with the intent of stripping women of land claims granted to them. Along with a general ideological, religious, and political attack on women, there was also a specific attack on women s land rights and the strengthening of men s domination over land (Kelkar, Nathan, Satija, 2013, p. 61). These poems served as her hotline to society, a glimpse into her personal life and an example of the lives of similar poets. Szymborska clearly felt a conflict between herself and society s relationship with poetry. Although her depiction of her feelings changed over time, there was a common theme of discomfort or confusion. Throughout the poem, the complains about how unfairly poetry is viewed in society, and almost sarcastically questions an unidentifiable person, possibly society as a whole, are you serious? Is this really what you expect of me? Poetry is put on as a show as something more than it is. Upset by this unfair portrayal, Szymborska rhetorically questions why it has come to be like this, and if people truly expect her to go along with it. This is uniquely shown by her use of em dashes in place of question marks, and ending the poem with a question mark. She is clearly upset with how she is flaunted, when in reality her life is quite simple. She compares herself to a clumsy ersatz angel , a cheap substitute for a figure revered as peculiar (179). In Poetry Reading , Szymborska is let down by the lack of interest in poetry. However she now is disgusted by the cheap exploitation of a rather humble career. However, Szymborska s calmness about poetry itself stays true to Poetry Reading . When referring to the poems themselves, she does not take care to describe the details. She states the actuality of her life, such as writing by the light of an ordinary bulb / to the typewriter s tap tap tap (179). During the 1960s, there were many movements taking place such as: The Civil Rights Movement, Anti Vietnam War movement, Women s Movements, and Gay Rights movement. The old Puritan model of the American university was a religious haven for students of wealthy families who attended in order to become clergymen. Graduates would then move on to becoming leaders in other branches of the church, thereby leading their own communities and essentially generating essentially an upper class of ministers. Consequently, there would be a more competitive admissions landscape for public colleges and for profit schools would see a decline in enrollment as it is seen as a cheaper, but much more risky option to two year public colleges and the proposal would make a superior option more affordable. It s unclear as to whether the proposal would lead to an increase in available space at universities as creation of additional space at public universities would require additional funding from the state governments, which, historically, has been declining. If additional funding is allowed and public school capacity is expanded, for profit schools would see a massive decline in enrollment. In both cases, four year non profit universities would experience little to no effect because the demographics within the four year non profit institutions, which typically have the highest average tuition rates, are even more skewed towards the students of wealthier backgrounds. Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross, recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. Charles Lindbergh Jr. was kidnapped in attempts to get some ransom money from his wealthy father, the famous pilot Charles Lindbergh. The murder of the child almost seemed to be an accident and that it was a slip up in the plan to kidnap the child. The man that all evidence points to and that was convicted was Bruno Richard Hauptmann, but a man named John Knoll might have been the mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder Charles Lindbergh Jr. The 20 month old baby, Charles Lindbergh Jr., was murdered on the day of March 1, 1932. He had just been put to sleep by his nurse, who was the last person to see the youngest child alive, when he was taken from his crib in the nursery on the second floor ( Lindbergh Kidnapping ). His body was accidentally found on May 12, 1932, half buried in the woods, 45 feet from a highway. The body s location was only four and a half miles away from the Lindbergh estate. When Lindbergh Jr. s body was found, his head was smashed, his skull had a hole in it, and was missing body members. The coroner s examination placed the time of death about two months prior, placing the time of death in March, the same time he was kidnapped ( Lindbergh Kidnapping ). The Tang Song dynasties ruled from 618AD to 1279 AD and many distinct differences between these two dynasties can be observed. This is quoted from a secondary source from a professor studying Chinese history and shows how different the societies were between the two. Men were still greatly superior to women in this period. In contrast with the Tang dynasty, women in this period despite it following the Tang dynasty, were not allowed into positions of great importance like government officials or be involved in politics and were just expected to stay at home and take care of the household. But women of this period, unlike those of Tang, were had equal societal and legal rights that enabled them to control their own dowry, able to establish small businesses and were equal to men when it came to terms of inheritance, (Yuan, 1984). On the other hand, in Limbo one merely walks around and talks to other luckless souls, which does not seem to be a punishment constant with what other sinners face in hell. Dante correctly assigned the right punishments to each group of sinners, but he misplaced both groups. Limbo should be outside of Hell because they did not have the knowledge of either Heaven or Hell. The Ante Inferno should be the first level of Hell, reserved for those who knew about Heaven and Hell, choose neither side, and now must face the fact that by their indecision, are bound to suffer in Hell. While Dante may have geographically misplaced these two groups of sinners, he did correctly punish most of the sinners in Hell. For example, the river of blood in which boils everyone / Whose violence hurt others (Canto XII 41 42) describes the perfect punishment for those who were violent while they were alive. This moral dilemma obviously played a large role in the type of person Orwell became. The story not only lines up with his ideals about government and imperialism, he is still visited by the events that happened to him in Burmese. This was a huge success for him but landed him in a proverbial writers block. He wanted to continue his studies but his family was not able to financially help him. So instead he decided to follow in his father s footsteps and joined the imperial guard. These five years were said to be awful for George, but it is where he got the inspiration to write this short story. Orwell had a difficult time after his stint in the guard as well.
