Narrative And Solution-Focused Therapy
Comparison and Critique of Narrative and Solution Focused Therapies Narrative and solution focused
therapy are utilized by social workers and helping professionals and while they appear similar, their
key differences are very important to understand. While narrative therapy and solution focused
therapy share similarities due to the influence of postmodernism in the use of language, the
understanding of human nature and the process of change, and the relationship between social worker
and client, the presence or absence of cultural context and client background in counselling sets them
apart. Narrative therapy s openness to discussing and understanding the context and narratives of the
individual, group/family, community, and society with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of therapy is to replace a client s problem saturated narrative through the construction of a
new preferred story (Shapiro Ross, 2002). Furthermore, preferred stories are developed by finding and
discussing positive moments and exceptions (Shapiro Ross, 2002). Narrative therapy can be
distinguished as either Collaborative Language Systems (CLS), otherwise known as conversational
elaboration, or as narrative deconstruction (Buckman et al., 2008). Conversational elaboration is
creating space and opportunity for a client to move from a stuck monologue to a dialogue with new
themes and narratives by inviting clients to consider different perspectives (Buckman et al., 2008).
Alternatively, narrative deconstruction emphasizes the client s power in therapy. It encourages clients
to externalize themselves from the problem and then deconstruct the exceptions that exist to their
narratives (Buckman et al., 2008). While this approach encourages elaboration or deconstruction,
solution focused therapy directs the conversation in a different way while using some of the same

The Victorian Era: Queen Victoria s Contributions to Great Britain During The 19th Century
From the beginning of the 1700s, Great Britain was one of the most powerful countries in the world
due to its military, and economic prosperity. At the turn of the century, Great Britain transitioned out
of an agricultural nation to more of an industrial nation, starting the Industrial Revolution. Better
transportation, the recession of feudalism, population growth and financial innovations all led Britain
into not only the Industrial Revolution, but also the world trade market as well.1 However Britain s
empire alongside its part in the Industrial Revolution also added to the nation s great power. According
to an article by Business Insider, Britain s empire spanned over 13 million square miles of land,
almost a full quarter of the Earth s entire land mass.2 However, what is a country without its leader?
Great Britain s continued success as a nation would not have been possible without contributions
made by Queen Victoria. Representing pride and imperialism in Great Britain, Queen Victoria s long
reign was so great that it was called The Victorian Era. Queen Victoria maintained her nation s
prosperity in the Industrial Revolution, supported the expansion of Britain s empire, and also made

Is Science Our Enemy?
Science not only places an important role in the human culture, but it also helps people in multifarious
ways in today s world. However, people said that science will hurt human, and they set a block on the
scientific road. In the article Enemies of Promise wrote by the professor of microbiology at University
of California, San Francisco who named Bishop, Michael J. He mentions that although science already
helped people to solve problems, there are many other people who still do not support science.
Moreover, the author of Cars and Their Enemies James Q. Wilson is a professor emeritus at UCLA

As the author states, We live in an age of scientific triumph. Science has solved many of nature s
puzzles and greatly enlarged human knowledge. Yet despite these proud achievements, science today
is increasingly mistrusted and under attack. It is attacked more often because it is misunderstood
(Bishop 304). He believes the solution and invention that science provides to us are more than we
think; However, people start to focus on the side effects of science instead of the advantages it brings,
and the criticism seem like a common practice now. The main cause of this is not only the blindly
follow by the ignorant public, but also the fear of find out the truth. Resistance to science is born of
the fear. Fear, in turn, is bred by ignorance. And it is ignorance that is our deepest malady (Bishop
308). The main anti science sentiment is the religious community, because they need to protect their
belief. They might afraid of the truth that science can find out, because it will shake their base of
religion. In the other hands, if those people still criticize science by their fears, our society is going to
be a ignorant society. Even though science have been feared, mistrusted, and despised, the author still
want readers to understand the importance of science in the future of our world. Therefore, people
should try to study more knowledge and face the truth, and help science to

Option 2 was chosen as it was the only option which would improve service outcomes, meet the
Heathy Weight Strategy for Blackpool, meet NHS planning framework, National Skills Framework
and current NICE guidelines.
The expected outcomes for this service are a weight reduction of 5 10% weight per participant with
weight maintenance, reduced waiting times, reduced the high levels of high Did Not Attend (DNA),
reduce health inequalities in Blackpool and a reduction in obesity associated health condition. Overall
this will contribute to a reduction of cost and burden to the health social care. The programme costing
£82.5 per person is considered cost effective according to NICE (2014b) as it is less than £100 per
person.
2. Current service
Statistics show there were 140 500 people in Blackpool in 2014 with a large number of older people
(over 65 years) which is predicted to increase in the next 20 years (JSNA, 2014). Table 1 describes the
population profile compared to England and Wales. It shows a mainly white ethnic population with a
high rate of obesity and poor lifestyle choices. The life expectancy, healthy life expectancy and
disability fee expectancy is the lowest in England which is an indicator of poor health. There is a high
disability rate in Blackpool (9.9%) which is twice the national average. There is also a higher learning
disability prevalence in Blackpool (Blackpool Council, 2013).

Voter Turnout In Primary Elections
In 2016, the primary elections voter turnout was highly disproportionate to the turnout of the general
elections that same year. In the state of Utah, 545.36% more eligible voters voted in the general
election rather to the primary elections. This is due to a lack of informed voters and the lack of societal
pressure around the primary elections versus the general elections.
Additionally, the primary elections are more likely to be an information overload to a voter. These
elections are chaotic due to there being several candidate choices, as well as there being a difference in
objectives from that of the general elections. For instance, in the primary elections the voter is
selecting between various party representatives, instead of a straight forward two party election for
president. A voter in the United States is more likely to seek a source that simplifies the information
being given, or consequently even ignores the primary election altogether. Thus resulting in a lower
voter turnout in the primaries. Alan S. Gerber s Why Don t People Vote in U.S. Primary Elections?
states Gerber et al. (2011) show that Americans are less likely to punish or reward elected officials for
their policy positions when they understand that their own views are not well informed. Since the

Research Paper On Cemetery Birding
Our latest park review takes us east into zone 6 where we make our first venture into cemetery birding
within the CBC circle. All Saints Cemetery is located in Northfield, Ohio off of W. Highland Road
and consists of 271 rolling acres, with two small lakes.
While birding cemeteries may be bit creepy to some, they can be an ideal habitat for birds and birders
alike. Most cemeteries are relatively large, providing good acreage for birds, with plenty of mature
trees for shelter and foraging.
We elected to run a short car route around the perimeter of the cemetery to get a grasp of the layout
and a probable foot path that we would follow. Parking along the southern most point in the cemetery
we scanned a small lake, or big pond for signs of life (sorry bad choice of words). No waterfowl were
present and the surrounding open area was muted.

Cemetery Birding Etiquette
Birding in a cemetery, graveyard or memorial garden is not as simple as arriving with a pair of
binoculars and wandering around the grounds. While polite birders are always respectful of both the
birds and the habitat, cemeteries require extra consideration.
Be aware of the property s opening hours and visitor guidelines, and obey all posted rules and
restrictions, such as no food or drink, minimal noise, signing a guest register or parking only in
designated areas. Keep a respectful distance from any funeral or memorial services, and do not disrupt
mourners in any way. Do not point your optics toward a service or mourner, even if a bird may be
visible nearby; instead, shift your position so as not to intrude on anyone s grief. Do not walk directly
on gravesites. Ideally, stay only on marked pathways, but if it is necessary to walk among grave
markers, stay close behind a row of headstones and avoid walking across burial sites. Similarly, do not
enter fenced or gated plot

Loss Of Children In The Stone Boy By Gina Berriault
The Stone Boy
Way too often we see kids who are neglected emotionally after a tragic event, and how negatively it
effects them later on. It forces them to give up their innocent childhood. That is exactly what happens
in Gina Berriault s short story The Stone Boy . The story is about a 9 year old boy who accidently
shoots his older brother dead. The boy shows no emotion, whatsoever, and it is clear the grownups do
not understand him, so he is labeled with words like cruel . He does not understand his feelings and he
loses his identity when his mother rejects him in a way no mother should. So he is left alone,
beginning to believe that he is actually cruel.
When we first meet Arnold, he is an innocent 9 year old child. There is nothing unusual about ... Show

When the accident happens, we see Arnold go into some state of shock and his actions after this point
are described as mechanically . This is a way for Arnold to shut off his feelings so he does not have to
feel the great grief of the loss of his brother. The Sheriff and the parents misinterpret his way of
dealing with his sorrow, and instead they label the boy as cruel. Arnold is already in between identities
because of the accident, which threw him out of the childish innocence, so he needs his parent s
guidance and comfort more than ever. He is very insecure, and in the interview, he relies completely
on his father s answers. However, when his parents believe he is cruel, he thinks it must be right, so he
takes on this new identity.
This new identity is described in the title as the stone boy , but this is not at all the boy we meet in the
beginning, so Arnold goes through quite a change in the short story.
There is also a transformation in Arnold s identity from day to night. In the daytime, we see a kid who
does not show any emotions. He does not seem to regret his brother s

Timothy William Burton was born on August 25, 1958, in Burbank, California. His father was a

though he drew many things for the film, Disney never used any of his drawings. But Burton s talent
didn t go unnoticed. In 1982, Disney allowed him to do his own project. He created a short stop

inspired again to make a film called Frankenweenie. Warner Bros. studio saw this film and decided
that Burton would be a great director for their movie Pee Wee s Big Adventure. This movie made him

movie, but after it was finished, he left Warner Bros. and went to create another one of his movies
with Twentieth Century Fox. There, he created his film Edward Scissorhands. It was his most original

success, however, Tim Burton was absolutely serious when he suggested that his film career might be

5.3 What type of charities do people give to?
Each of the three sections responds to very different charities. Sustenance Driven are attracted to
institutions such as the Army/ military and hospitals, this is linked to the fact that sustenance driven
people have a strong interest in the safety and security of their communities and nation. They are more
interested in what is happening in the UK rather than international and overseas work.
Outer Directed people are interested in people as they are empathetic to people who are struggling, as
shown in the graph below by the interest in charities that support people with disabilities as well as
children and adults improving themselves. Again this group does not focus on international, or
overseas work are not as popular with Outer Directed people. They are also not as focused on
environmental matters.
Inner Directed people give to totally different causes to the other two, Inner Directed people are
focused on the world as a whole. Meaning they support international charities, as they are interested in
preserving the culture and heritage of other people, for the future.

A solution of coke is considered to be homogenous since it contains a uniform composition and

The Media s Influence On Body Image
America is obsessed with body image. In today s world, you can t go through the day without seeing
the television, advertisements, magazines, or really any type of media portraying women s bodies.
Due to the immense societal pressure that women should have the perfect body to be accepted, the
nonstop reminders to change what they look like, struggling with body image has now become a
major social phenomenon and it s time for women to challenge that narrative. Women of all ages are
facing face increasing scrutinization over their body image through media influence leading to
invasive surgeries, increased depression, and eating disorders. Media plays a large role in influencing
body shame through the advertisements they put out and who is casted for the lead roles. From weight

America s poor body image can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle. The standards of how society views
women as beautiful have changed throughout the years. Seeing constantly that only women who are a
size two are considered beautiful doesn t make loving yourself easier. These issues cause depression
and eating disorders among women and some extreme cases the criticism and self hatred lead to
suicide. The reason often evolves from people picking on them and constantly being put down by the
media. The media is mostly to blame for these false perceptions of beauty, through their
advertisements and the type of women they cast for lead roles. Recently, there s been small
movements of progress. More diverse women, ethnically diverse and bodily diverse, have been
making waves. America must step up to the plate to challenge the media on the narrative they ve set
forth for women s bodies. Ultimately, women must take back this

Burke And Anna s Life In Hungary
Life in Hungary
Living in Europe was a dream of Burke and Anna s. An opportunity in 2011 to teach young children in
Hungary to speak English was just what they needed to pack their bags and move to Hungary for 6
months. They became volunteer teachers for local schools in Hungary. Burke and Anna taught
children of all different ages.
They stayed in the city of Szeged, Hungary. The apartment they were living in was very large and
inexpensive for the size of the apartment, however it was very outdated. Living in Hungary was a very
different experience for Burke and Anna. For example, they were perplexed when they found that the
washing machine was in the bathroom. Washing their clothing was something they had never heard of
before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I asked them if they met anyone special in there time spent in Hungary. They responded by telling me
a story about a boy named Norby. Norby was one of the young children they taught. While learning
English Norby could be described as Tigger, always excited and having so much to say. His dream
was to work for the Peace Corps and he knew he needed to be a great English speaker to do so.
according to Burke and Anna. Norby would talk to Burke and Anna as much as possible. One time he
even invited them to dinner at his house. Burke and Anna gladly agreed to to have dinner with Norby
and his family. Something they learned about Norby was he was the only one in his family that spoke
English. We did our best to communicate with them and, by the end, we were all laughing and having
a great time together, even though we couldn t actually speak the same language. It is one of our
favorite memories from our time there. Burke and Anna said. It is important when traveling the world
to meet new people. Meeting new people especially in a different country can open your eyes to lots
of new experiences and you can also learn so many new things.
Burke and Anna experienced so many special moments during their 6 month stay in Hungary. One in
particular moment that stood out to them is a time to a Hungarian dog show. One of the teachers from
their school had a dog competing. In Hungary they have so many dog breeds that Burke and Anna
never heard of before. They had so much fun and saw super cute dogs. That was one of Burke and
Anna s most memorable experiences from staying in

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor ( Ssri )
Escitalopram is a second generation antidepressant; a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)
that is used in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety related disorders. It is
generic for Lexapro and was approved by the FDA in 2012 for adults and children 12 years and older
who suffer from major depressive disorder and adults who have generalized anxiety disorder. (FDA,
2012). Since its approval, Escitalopram has also been used in the treatment of Obsessive compulsive
disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, and even premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This review will
discuss the overall effectiveness of Escitalopram, the pharmacokinetic factors of the medication, the
mechanism of action, common adverse reactions, pharmacological effects of the medication, and its
efficacy across different populations. The Pharmacokinetics of Escitalopram While many selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI s) are accepted as first line treatments for depression and anxiety,
they differ greatly in their chemical structure and pharmacokinetic profile. These differences are
especially important when selecting the appropriate antidepressant drug for the client. It is also
important to understand the different drug interactions and pharmacological profiles when considering
an SSRI for a patient as well. An initial starting dose of escitalopram is usually 10 mg/day. It may be
necessary to increase dosage after at least one week of treatment to a maximum dosage of up to 20

What Are The Clusters Model
Clusters models
According to Boja (2011), there are four economic agglomeration types; these types differ according
to the type of firms within the agglomeration, the economic efficiency and flexibility and the
innovation (figure #). Clusters are formed by firms that conduct activities in the same field and in
which innovation is an important factor that stimulate the competition and the firms growth.
Figure#
Porter s model
Porter s model (figure#) is characterized by interdependence relations between four main factors.
External factors are described as the initial resources (material resources and the facilitating conditions
to start a new business in the area) and the existing economic environment (the number of firms
operating, the ability to launch a new business and the commercial culture of the area). Companies
strategies will face the increasing competitive environment. They are required to provide specialized
services and products, higher quality and collaboration to meet higher requirements. The solution is to
grow, to innovate and provide diverse products and services; Market conditions represent the demand
for provided products and services; without a need or a customer, there won t be a commercial

Immanuel Kant s View on Human Nature and the Relationship...
Immanuel Kant s View on Human Nature and Relationship between Nations
Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) was born in Kaliningrad in East Prussia. Kant spent his working life there
and also produced work on various subject matters including ethics metaphysics, epistemology,
aesthetics etc. He published his three famous critiques and wrote on religion, eternal peace and
politics.
All of the above, Kant was the philosopher of human autonomy. He was of the view that human
beings can determine and manage to live up to the basic principles of knowledge and action without
assistance of anyone else, even without any divine support or intervention (Guyer). In this paper we
will discuss the extent to which Kant s view of human nature provides a sustainable ground work for
his views on the relationship between nations. In order to determine this, different opinions of Kant
will be discussed regarding what his views about the human nature and how he compared it with the
nations or states.
Reflecting on human nature and writing about the human beings was the most important theme of
Kant s all writings. Kant s study has emphasized three times that the question What is the human
being? is a very important question in philosophy. Kant holds a thought that human beings are
different from machines and therefore should be studied differently according to their natural
purposes. He was also of the view that human being is the only creature which should be educated.
Kant pointed out that

There is a near connection between political work and science to do with the producing, distribution,

Agamemnon Passions
Everyone is going to die. This is no secret to the audience of the Greek play Agamemnon. Rather than
surprising us with the murders that befall at the hands of vengeance, the Greek playwright uses this
common story to display the underlying theme that one must first suffer before they can reach the
truth. To understand the significance behind the story of Agamemnon, one must understand the
passions and how they relate to the human person, Zeus s law of suffering into truth, and Aeschylus s
motives for writing Agamemnon and how he reflects Catholic teaching.
First, it is important to consider the detailed description of the passions that is provided by Thomas
Aquinas in My Way of Life. He describes the passions to be movements of the sense appetite towards
bodily goods and away from bodily evils (MWL 189). They move in a cyclical pattern that begins
with an inclination toward a good, then a movement is made to secure the good, and finally the ...

They are based on instinct and the need to survive. In humans, the passions are subject to the control
of the reason and will with the intention to lead man toward a moral good. (MWL 195). The intellect
and the will help to guide the passions toward the good. However, the issue in Agamemnon is that the
characters passions have become like those of animals, and their passions are not being controlled by
their rational appetite, the will. The kings of birds to kings of the beaking prows, one black, one with a
blaze of silver skimmed the palace spearhand right and swooping lower, all could see, plunged their
claws in a hare, a mother bursting with unborn young the babies spilling quick spurts of blood cut off
the race just dashing into life! (Agamemnon 118 124). This analogy shows how the impulsiveness of
the kings decision to bring vengeance on Troy can be compared to an eagle attacking a pregnant

How Is Kingdom Of Heaven Historically Accurate
Although the movie Kingdom of Heaven was based on a true historical event, not all the scenes are
accurate. The relationships, knights, and weapons seen in the movie do not all add up to the way
things were during the Second Crusade. Hollywood movie directors are in it for the money. They want
to make an action packed movie. They do not care if everything in the movie is historically correct.
Although the movie was not all historically correct, it still does a good job of portraying what
happened during the Second Crusade. These are some events that happened in the movie. I will tell
you why they are not all historically correct. Some relationships in this movie were not quite portrayed
the way they actually were. For example, in the movie it shows Balian not being acquainted with
father, when actually Balian was not as illegitimate as the movie portrayed him to be. Also, Balian had
two brothers. Baldwin, his older brother was actually the one to fall in love with Sybilla. There is no
record of any type of romance between Balin and Sybilla. In the movie it portrays Sybilla as hating

Urbanization And Commercialization On Literature
The Effects of Urbanization and Commercialization on Literature
Nature is inescapable. It surrounds humanity and sneaks its way into daily life. Society draws on
experiences with the environment to produce art, theater, and literature. As Tim Ingold, a professor of
Social Anthropology, explains, ... nature furnishes the substance, culture the form. The imaginary
worlds of stories are created from sensations gained from the environment, and culture is a medium
that guides the writer in expressing his or her tale. Tales of Moonlight and Rain (1776) by Ueda
Akinari was written during a time of pilgrimages, uprisings, and intellectual pursuits. Though set in
the past, the book shows the influences of his environment within his nine ghost stories. The
continued urbanization and commercialization of society influenced the literature produced in the
early modern period, as well as views on the supernatural, by expanding on the themes of travel,
loyalty, and philosophy as shown in Akinari s Tales of Moonlight and Rain.
As Japan became more urbanized and roads improved, many commoners became enthralled by the
opportunity to explore the world around them. However, since simply traveling to see the world was
prohibited by the shogunate, many explored the world through pilgrimages. These travelers wrote
dairies and poetry that described the sights and sounds they experience, expanding the culture of travel
through their literature. According to Anthony H. Chamber, the translator of

Analysis Of The Film Sophie Scholl
The film Sophie Scholl reflects the repetition of the concept of the Hero from across the sea . One of
Northrop Frye s lessons on biblical stories, he explores in detail what the hero from across the sea
means. This theory consists of a wasteland that is ruled by the impotent old king, whose land is being
destroyed by a sea monster whose only goal is to demand human sacrifice. In this story, the king s
daughter the princess tied to a rock is chosen as a sacrifice to the sea monster, but luckily a hero from
across the sea comes to her rescue, returning the fertility to the land. In the movie Sophie Scholl, this
idea is shown multiple times, by a variety of characters. The movie Sophie Scholl takes place in
Germany around the time when Hitler and the Nazis were in power. The protagonist, Sophie Scholl
and her brother Hans Scholl are members of a German group, the white rose, that is against Hitler s
view and its ultimate goal is for war to conclude. Looking at the story from a hero from across the sea
point of view, I can deduce that Germany itself is the lifeless wasteland, ravaged by the endless war
that Hitler and the Nazis inflicted on the country, by way of explanation, Hitler, and the Nazis are the
sea monster itself. Germany at this time in history was a place in where Someone who speaks freely...
is imprisoned or put to death (Sophie Scholl, 1:03:06). Which is what happens to them, they place
many leaflets around their university that express negative opinions towards Hitler. Unfortunately,
they get caught, they are interrogated for their crimes and sentenced to death by the old impotent king.
Naturally, Hitler is the most apparent choice when it comes to the old imponent king, but I think it can
be applied to both him and the president. The president doesn t exactly rule the wasteland, like Hitler,
but he has the final say on people s lives, allowing him to have to have an immense sense of authority.
He also is very arrogant and promotes Hitler s ideology to others, as if was the only viewpoint .
There are three broad examples that represent this concept through this film. One example is the when
Hans attempts to help his sister, by taking on the blame for the crime. During Sophie s

Competition in the oil industry is separated by about 10 cents here in the US. The difference between
ARCCO, Shell, Mobil, and Chevron, is between 1 and 10 cents. Oil companies don t compete with

ExxonMobil make have a slight difference in price at the pump, the will not try to do anything to rock

same areas of business as Exxon. Their petroleum products and lubricants are sold in the same
markets, stores, and in many cases opposite street corners from each other. The two companies are
very similar, but Exxon s recent petroleum deals in the Middle East and Africa have allowed its stock
price to jump ahead for the time being (1). In the industry, the two companies mainly compete for the
ability to negotiate for new production. The competition is not made at the pump or at the local auto

much value and power in the world, the industry is made of semi friendly companies. Surviving and

Circadian Timing System
The Circadian Timing System (CTS) is responsible for generation and synchronization of endogenous
oscillations expressed by living beings, for most physiologic functions and behaviors, with period
around 24 hours (for review see Dibner et al., 2010). Among the central structures of rodent circadian
clock are hypothalamic Suprachiasmatic Nuclei (SCN) and Intergeniculate Leaflet (IGL) in lateral
geniculate complex of thalamus. The former is considered the master pacemaker of circadian rhythms,
regulating cyclic patterns of physiologic and hormonal activity in response to environmental cues, via
a variety of outputs. The latter projects to SCN, via geniculo hypothalamic tract (GHT), having an

Changes in aged circadian clock are already described in many levels (for review see Engelberth et al.,

  • 2. Narrative And Solution-Focused Therapy Comparison and Critique of Narrative and Solution Focused Therapies Narrative and solution focused therapy are utilized by social workers and helping professionals and while they appear similar, their key differences are very important to understand. While narrative therapy and solution focused therapy share similarities due to the influence of postmodernism in the use of language, the understanding of human nature and the process of change, and the relationship between social worker and client, the presence or absence of cultural context and client background in counselling sets them apart. Narrative therapy s openness to discussing and understanding the context and narratives of the individual, group/family, community, and society with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of therapy is to replace a client s problem saturated narrative through the construction of a new preferred story (Shapiro Ross, 2002). Furthermore, preferred stories are developed by finding and discussing positive moments and exceptions (Shapiro Ross, 2002). Narrative therapy can be distinguished as either Collaborative Language Systems (CLS), otherwise known as conversational elaboration, or as narrative deconstruction (Buckman et al., 2008). While this approach encourages elaboration or deconstruction, solution focused therapy directs the conversation in a different way while using some of the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Better transportation, the recession of feudalism, population growth and financial innovations all led Britain into not only the Industrial Revolution, but also the world trade market as well.1 However Britain s empire alongside its part in the Industrial Revolution also added to the nation s great power. In the state of Utah, 545.36% more eligible voters voted in the general election rather to the primary elections. This is due to a lack of informed voters and the lack of societal pressure around the primary elections versus the general elections. Additionally, the primary elections are more likely to be an information overload to a voter. These elections are chaotic due to there being several candidate choices, as well as there being a difference in objectives from that of the general elections. For instance, in the primary elections the voter is selecting between various party representatives, instead of a straight forward two party election for president. A voter in the United States is more likely to seek a source that simplifies the information being given, or consequently even ignores the primary election altogether. Thus resulting in a lower voter turnout in the primaries. Alan S. Gerber s Why Don t People Vote in U.S. Primary Elections? states Gerber et al. (2011) show that Americans are less likely to punish or reward elected officials for their policy positions when they understand that their own views are not well informed. Since the general ... All Saints Cemetery is located in Northfield, Ohio off of W. Highland Road and consists of 271 rolling acres, with two small lakes. While birding cemeteries may be bit creepy to some, they can be an ideal habitat for birds and birders alike. Most cemeteries are relatively large, providing good acreage for birds, with plenty of mature trees for shelter and foraging. We elected to run a short car route around the perimeter of the cemetery to get a grasp of the layout and a probable foot path that we would follow. Parking along the southern most point in the cemetery we scanned a small lake, or big pond for signs of life (sorry bad choice of words). Be aware of the property s opening hours and visitor guidelines, and obey all posted rules and restrictions, such as no food or drink, minimal noise, signing a guest register or parking only in designated areas. Keep a respectful distance from any funeral or memorial services, and do not disrupt mourners in any way. It forces them to give up their innocent childhood. That is exactly what happens in Gina Berriault s short story The Stone Boy . The story is about a 9 year old boy who accidently shoots his older brother dead. The boy shows no emotion, whatsoever, and it is clear the grownups do not understand him, so he is labeled with words like cruel . Arnold is already in between identities because of the accident, which threw him out of the childish innocence, so he needs his parent s guidance and comfort more than ever. He is very insecure, and in the interview, he relies completely on his father s answers. However, when his parents believe he is cruel, he thinks it must be right, so he takes on this new identity. This new identity is described in the title as the stone boy , but this is not at all the boy we meet in the beginning, so Arnold goes through quite a change in the short story. • 27. Immanuel Kant s View on Human Nature and the Relationship... Immanuel Kant s View on Human Nature and Relationship between Nations Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) was born in Kaliningrad in East Prussia. Kant spent his working life there and also produced work on various subject matters including ethics metaphysics, epistemology, aesthetics etc. He published his three famous critiques and wrote on religion, eternal peace and politics. All of the above, Kant was the philosopher of human autonomy. He was of the view that human beings can determine and manage to live up to the basic principles of knowledge and action without assistance of anyone else, even without any divine support or intervention (Guyer). In this paper we will discuss the extent to which Kant s view of human nature provides a sustainable ground work for his views on the relationship between nations. In order to determine this, different opinions of Kant will be discussed regarding what his views about the human nature and how he compared it with the nations or states. Reflecting on human nature and writing about the human beings was the most important theme of Kant s all writings. Kant s study has emphasized three times that the question What is the human being? is a very important question in philosophy. Kant holds a thought that human beings are different from machines and therefore should be studied differently according to their natural purposes. He was also of the view that human being is the only creature which should be educated. Kant pointed out that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Agamemnon Passions Everyone is going to die. This is no secret to the audience of the Greek play Agamemnon. Rather than surprising us with the murders that befall at the hands of vengeance, the Greek playwright uses this common story to display the underlying theme that one must first suffer before they can reach the truth. To understand the significance behind the story of Agamemnon, one must understand the passions and how they relate to the human person, Zeus s law of suffering into truth, and Aeschylus s motives for writing Agamemnon and how he reflects Catholic teaching. First, it is important to consider the detailed description of the passions that is provided by Thomas Aquinas in My Way of Life. He describes the passions to be movements of the sense appetite towards bodily goods and away from bodily evils (MWL 189). However, the issue in Agamemnon is that the characters passions have become like those of animals, and their passions are not being controlled by their rational appetite, the will. The relationships, knights, and weapons seen in the movie do not all add up to the way things were during the Second Crusade. Hollywood movie directors are in it for the money. They want to make an action packed movie. They do not care if everything in the movie is historically correct. Although the movie was not all historically correct, it still does a good job of portraying what happened during the Second Crusade. These are some events that happened in the movie. I will tell you why they are not all historically correct. Some relationships in this movie were not quite portrayed the way they actually were. For example, in the movie it shows Balian not being acquainted with father, when actually Balian was not as illegitimate as the movie portrayed him to be. Also, Balian had two brothers. • 32. Urbanization And Commercialization On Literature The Effects of Urbanization and Commercialization on Literature Nature is inescapable. It surrounds humanity and sneaks its way into daily life. Society draws on experiences with the environment to produce art, theater, and literature. As Tim Ingold, a professor of Social Anthropology, explains, ... nature furnishes the substance, culture the form. The imaginary worlds of stories are created from sensations gained from the environment, and culture is a medium that guides the writer in expressing his or her tale. Tales of Moonlight and Rain (1776) by Ueda Akinari was written during a time of pilgrimages, uprisings, and intellectual pursuits. Though set in the past, the book shows the influences of his environment within his nine ghost stories. The continued urbanization and commercialization of society influenced the literature produced in the early modern period, as well as views on the supernatural, by expanding on the themes of travel, loyalty, and philosophy as shown in Akinari s Tales of Moonlight and Rain. As Japan became more urbanized and roads improved, many commoners became enthralled by the opportunity to explore the world around them. However, since simply traveling to see the world was prohibited by the shogunate, many explored the world through pilgrimages. These travelers wrote dairies and poetry that described the sights and sounds they experience, expanding the culture of travel through their literature. According to Anthony H. • 33. Analysis Of The Film Sophie Scholl The film Sophie Scholl reflects the repetition of the concept of the Hero from across the sea . One of Northrop Frye s lessons on biblical stories, he explores in detail what the hero from across the sea means. This theory consists of a wasteland that is ruled by the impotent old king, whose land is being destroyed by a sea monster whose only goal is to demand human sacrifice. In this story, the king s daughter the princess tied to a rock is chosen as a sacrifice to the sea monster, but luckily a hero from across the sea comes to her rescue, returning the fertility to the land. In the movie Sophie Scholl, this idea is shown multiple times, by a variety of characters. The movie Sophie Scholl takes place in Germany around the time when Hitler and the Nazis were in power. The protagonist, Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans Scholl are members of a German group, the white rose, that is against Hitler s view and its ultimate goal is for war to conclude. Looking at the story from a hero from across the sea point of view, I can deduce that Germany itself is the lifeless wasteland, ravaged by the endless war that Hitler and the Nazis inflicted on the country, by way of explanation, Hitler, and the Nazis are the sea monster itself. Germany at this time in history was a place in where Someone who speaks freely... is imprisoned or put to death (Sophie Scholl, 1:03:06). Which is what happens to them, they place many leaflets around their university that express negative opinions towards Hitler. Unfortunately, they get caught, they are interrogated for their crimes and sentenced to death by the old impotent king. Naturally, Hitler is the most apparent choice when it comes to the old imponent king, but I think it can be applied to both him and the president. The president doesn t exactly rule the wasteland, like Hitler, but he has the final say on people s lives, allowing him to have to have an immense sense of authority. He also is very arrogant and promotes Hitler s ideology to others, as if was the only viewpoint . There are three broad examples that represent this concept through this film. One example is the when Hans attempts to help his sister, by taking on the blame for the crime. During Sophie s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
