In recent decades, attempts have been made to create more advanced effective cooling technology for electronic and microelectronic devices, but heat dissipation is still a major challenge for increasing the cooling performance of heat sinks in a highly competitive electronics market. In the present analysis, the research is designing a new thermal design for plate fin heat sinks with hexagonal pin fin connected to the plate fins. A theoretical analysis focused on publicly usable computational fluid dynamics CFD codes has been performed to test the thermal efficiency of the proposed designs. Modelling done using ANSYS 14.5 and meshing has done using ICEM CFD software, simulations has done by using CFD FLUENT software. In specific, in terms of their thermal performance, hexagonal pin fin connected to the plate fins subject to flow have been contrasted. The plate fin heat sink was made of Aluminium and an electrical heaters provide a heat of 10W constantly to warm up a plate plate fin heat sink with hexagonal pin fin subject to flow of air at variable values i.e. 6.5, 9.5, and 2.5 m s .Based on the results, the analysis has shown that the plate fin heat sinks demonstrate superior thermal performance with hexagonal 3 pin fin subject to flow. The Nusselt number is approximately 1.32 times higher than the conventional plate fin heat sink without pin fin and 1.13 times higher than plate fin heat sink with elliptical 3 pin fin. Abstract
Air-cooled and water-cooled charge air coolers are used as applications in automobiles. The cooling media include engine’s
coolant, ambient air or any other external coolant source. Charge air cooler with offset strip fin geometry is chosen on both hot
and cold sides with fin thickness 0.15 mm, length 3.2 mm, height 5.2 mm and frequency of 18 fins per inch. The flow rate on hot
side is taken as 0.3 kg/s and cold side as 2 kg/s for air-cooled charge air cooler and for water-cooled charge air cooler on hot
side it is 0.3 kg/s and cold side is 0.265 kg/s with inlet temperature on hot side 160 oC and cold side 40 oC. With the above
conditions, performance evaluation is done on both charge air coolers. Having found water-cooled charge air cooler is having
higher effectiveness than air-cooled type, performance evaluation is carried out on water-cooled charge air cooler with varying
mass flow rates on hot side from 0.1 to 0.6 kg/s and keeping cold fluid rate constant at 0.265 kg/s and the outputs obtained are
Colburn-j factor, Fanning friction factor, heat transfer coefficient, overall heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness of heat
exchanger. From the obtained results, graphs are drawn to assess the performance of the water charge air cooler.

Abstract This paper is the first part of a two-part study aiming to introduce a new integrated approach to evaluate the techno-economic value of recuperator retrofit on existing gas turbine engines. The original gas turbines are designed for combined cycles so that the pressure ratios are moderate to secure suitable exhaust temperatures. One way to enhance the thermal efficiency of some gas turbines is by using recuperation to recover some of the exhaust heat. In this part, the developed model is described and implemented for two gas turbine engines so the obtained characteristics are evaluated against the actual data. The new approach will assist users to select the suitable gas turbine models with favorable recuperator characteristics based on a technical and economic prospective. Besides, the performance results are used to design an appropriate shell and tube heat exchanger. Moreover, a new technique has been established to define the typical heat exchanger parameters in order to ensure the highest possible improvements over the original cycles. One of the main features of this method is that it depends only on the velocity of hot and cold heat exchanger streams from which the rest of the heat exchanger design and performance characteristics were derived. Thermal analysis of cooling effect on gas turbine bladeeSAT Journals
Abstract Performance of a gas turbine is mainly depends on various parameters e.g. ambient temperature, compressor pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature etc. The most important parameter to increase the life of the turbine blade is the cooling of the blade, which is necessary after reaching a certain temperature of the gases passing through the blades. Various types of cooling models are available for a turbine blade cooling. The power output of a gas turbine depends on the mass flow rate through it. This is precisely the reason why on hot days, when air is less dense, power output falls off. This paper is to analyze the film cooling technique that was developed to cool gases in the initial stages of the turbine blades, where temperature is very high (>1122 K). It is found that the thermal efficiency of a cooled gas turbine is less as compare to the uncooled gas turbine for the same input conditions. The reason is that the temperature at the inlet of the turbine is decreased due to cooling and the work produced by the turbine is slightly decreased. It is also found that the power consumption of the cool inlet air is of considerable concern since it decreases the net power output of gas turbine. In addition, net power decreases on increasing the overall pressure ratio. Furthermore, the reviewed works revealed that the efficiency of the cooled gas turbine largely depends on the inlet temperature of the turbine and previous research said that the temperature above 1123K, require cooling of the blade. CFD Port Flow Simulation of Air Flow Rate in Spark Ignition EngineDr. Amarjeet Singh
In the early stages of development of internal combustion engine (ICE), limitations such as speed, range, and lifespan led to series of researches resulting in the reduction or elimination of these limitations. Combustion in ICE is a rapid and controlled endothermic reaction between air in oxygen and fuel which is accompanied by significant increase in temperature and pressure with the production of heat, flame and carbon particle deposits. This combustion process is a phenomenon that involves turbulence, loss of air-fuel mixture during inflow and outflow into the cylinder. The objection of this study is to perform port flow analysis on ICE to determine flow rate and swirl at different valve lift under stationary engine parts.Methodology employed to analyze and solve the ICE port flow simulation is the use of CFD software that uses the finite volume method of numerical analysis to solve the continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations governing the air medium in the internal combustion engine cylinder. The model geometry for the analysis was generated using the Ansys Design Modeller for one cylinder, one suction port and one exhaust port, and two valves. The domain considered is internal combustion engine suction port with 86741 nodes and 263155 elements.
Study results revealed that air mass was more concentrated around the valve and inlet port cross-section with swirling motion seen, air stream experienced turbulence as it flowed downwards inside the cylinder, air stream spread was turbulent which will eventually enhance smooth combustion, swirling air stream moves towards the cylinder wall where it experienced tumbling and turbulent which will eventually enhance smooth combustion. From the simulation it was revealed that mass flow rate of inlet air increases with valve lift.

Air Cooled Engines have been used in a variety of applications, ranging from airplanes to motorbikes and even stationary or portable engines. Since modern automobiles and airplanes use engines delivering more power, they have to be cooled more efficiently due to which a more complex water cooling system is used for cooling engines with large displacements. Hence air cooling is becoming a thing of the past, especially in the aviation sector due to the advent of more efficient gas turbine engines. However air cooled internal combustion engines are still being used in a wide variety of two-wheelers ranging from small single cylinder engines to heavy duty liter class V-twins and Inline fours, due to the non-practicalities associated with the installment of a bulky water cooling system in two-wheelers. So one can ascertain that there is a scope for improving the efficiency of air cooled engines even further. The objective of this paper is to analyze currently existing fin design employed in most of the air cooled engines and improve it by changing the cross-section to a streamlined one and also making the fins in a helical orientation as opposed to the regular circular fins employed. Our analysis comprises of a computational fluid dynamics study of both the fin models with identical dimensions and simulated in the same environment using ANSYS FLUENT 15 software and we attempt to compare their performance using the temperature and heat transfer coefficient distribution plots obtained.

CFD Analysis of Exhaust Manifold of SI Engine and Comparison of Back Pressure...IOSRJMCE
Exhaust manifold is one of the most critical components of an IC Engine. The functioning of exhaust manifold is complex and is dependent on many parameters viz. back pressure, exhaust velocity, scavenging etc. In the present work, the performance of a four-stroke four cylinder gasoline engine exhaust manifold have been analysed using three different fuels - gasoline, alcohol, and LPG for the estimation of flow characteristics, thermal characteristics, and minimum back pressure. The manifold modelling is done in Creo2.0 followed by meshing and analysis in ANSYS. The LPG fuel gives minimum back pressure, temperature and velocity being approximately in the same range for all three fuels viz. gasoline, alcohol and LPG. Thus, LPG can be considered as a suitable alternative for gasoline in terms of minimum back flow in manifold.
Thermo Structural Analysis on Cylinder Head of 4 Stroke VCR Diesel EngineDr. Amarjeet Singh
The main aim of the project is to analyse the design performance of VCR 4 stroke Diesel engine cylinder head at the compression ratio 16.5 using Ansys software. The basic modelling is done on CATIA V5 software. The design exposition can be done structurally and thermally in ansys. By the structural analysis the maximum and minimum von misses stress, total deformation can be determined, the maximum gas pressure required for this analysis is taken from the experimental set up of VCR engine. With the steady state thermal analysis we will get the maximum temperature distribution and total heat flux of the cylinder head with the initial pressure value. The results of both the expositions are used to decide the critical areas of the cylinder head which require further amendment and also the quality of design. If the maximum stress is less than the material strength of the cylinder head then the basic design criteria can be achieved.
Simulation Based Interpretation and Recent Trends on Performance Analysis on ...ijtsrd
The heat transfer system is of great importance in many commercial and domestic applications. Likewise, IC engine always maintained at the working temperature for good ex. The improper generation distribution of temperature affects the performance and reduces the efficiency of the engine hence to the vehicle automobile. The performance of automobile Radiators can be substantially improved by a number of augmentation techniques. Heat transfer can be increased by active and passive flow control techniques or either with the incorporation of Nanofluids. As in order to remove the excess temperature, we need some cooling system in the automobile. The cooling system can be of two types Air and Water cooling system. Air cooling system is generally used in two wheelers and airplanes. The air directly takes the heat from the surface of the engine through the fins available on them. In the water cooling system, a water jacket is provided around the engine which carries the heat of the engine and releases this heat to the atmosphere with the help of a component called a radiator. The radiator basically consists of the upper tank, lower tank, tubes, fins, thermostat, the inlet port and outlet port, pressure cap. In the present work, Simulation Based Interpretation and Performance Analysis on Automobile Radiator through NanoParticle Fluids on modeled setup will be done trying to incorporate the condition of the automobile by using Nanoparticle fluids of Al2O3 and CuO. Water will also be taken to compare the performance of the Nanofluids. Results of numerous experimental and Ansys CFD solvers will be illustrated. CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
