This presentation discusses challenges with existing workplace wellness practices and trends that will change workplace wellness. It outlines four key challenges putting pressure on current practices: programs are often incentive-oriented which results in low participation without incentives; increased privacy regulations; commoditization of wellness programs; and the perception that lifestyle changes are difficult due to low rates of healthy behaviors. It then describes four trends that will impact workplace wellness: increased use of social media; focus on environmental health; renewed focus on education; and changing demographics. Finally, it lists five things that must happen for Americans to live healthier lifestyles, including focusing on prevention, communication, community approaches, peer recognition over incentives, and engaging children.
