This document discusses an open clinical information model and its benefits. An open clinical information model is a vendor-neutral and customer-owned data model for healthcare data. It allows for: 1) Separating the data model from technical implementations so the model can be defined by healthcare professionals and adapted flexibly. 2) Fast development and testing of new clinical applications through an "ideas to use in hours/days" approach. 3) Open sharing of data models and interfaces between organizations and vendors.
