Tuck Everlasting Point Of View
Time moves forward, and only forward. It s a circle we are born, raised, we live, then we die. But have
you ever imagined what would happen if you were endowed with immortality? What if you could not
die no matter how many decades had passed, while the world around you keeps changing and
everyone else keeps aging? Would it be wonderful to live forever like that? Then you should take a
look at Tuck Everlasting, a novel written by Natalie Babbitt in 1975 which focuses on the negative
side of immortality.
The narrative point of view used in the novel is the third person omniscient, like most of the stories we
were told as children. Our narrator, the author, knows everything. She can zoom in and out on all the
characters, jump from place to place, and even read the thoughts of the main characters. The Prologue
tells us all:
At dawn, Mae Tuck set out on her horse...
At noontime, Winnie Foster, whose family owned the Treegap wood,...
And at sunset a stranger appeared at the Fosters gate.
There is no connection among them. But these are the three main storylines, and the narrator knows
them all. This point of view really fits a story with lots of characters, that spans many years and has
different settings like Tuck Everlasting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The geographical location of Treegap is not specified, perhaps to convey the impression that the
events might happen in any small town. In the woods at the edge of Treegap, the Tucks live a simple
life and want to keep the secret of the eternal life giving stream to themselves. The Tucks cabin is a
plain, homely house with a charming disarray, and its inhabitants are friendly and ostensibly prioritize
human relationships above meticulous property maintenance. In contrast to the disorganized and
messy property of the Tucks, the Fosters house is guarded by a heavy iron gate and a sign informing
visitors they are unwelcome. Everything is neatly maintained and in its proper

Andrew Jackson s Views On The Election Of 1824
Andrew Jackson s path to presidency was unique. In the election of 1824, there were four main
candidates, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, William H. Crawford, and Andrew Jackson. Jackson
gained the most popular votes of the four Democratic Republican candidates, but not the majority of
electoral votes to win the election. Henry Clay, who was eliminated from the election, held a decisive
position as the speaker of the House of Representatives. Clay was in a position to throw the election to
the candidate of his choice. Clay threw his support behind Adams since he had led some of the
strongest attacks against Jackson. Rather than the nation s presidency go to a man he abhorred, Clay
secured the White House for Adams. In return Adams named ... Show more content on

Northerners supported tariffs because tariffs helped them compete with British factories. The South s
economy was based on farming. Southerners imported their manufactured goods. Tariffs made
imported goods more expensive for southern farmer which led to their opposition. Angry Southerners
called the tariff the Tariff of Abominations. The new tariff added fuel to the growing sectional
differences plaguing the young nation. When Andrew Jackson took office in 1829, he was forced to
respond to the growing conflict over tariffs. Vice President John C. Calhoun joined his fellow
southerners in protest when Congress passed the Tariff of Abominations. In response to the tariff,
Calhoun drafted the South Carolina Exposition and Protest. It urged states to nullify the Tariff of
Abominations and used it to argue that since the states created the national government they decided
when the national laws apply. Calhoun s theory was controversial, and it drew some fierce
challengers. Many of them were from the northern states that had benefited from increased tariffs.
These opponents believed that the American people, not the individual states, made up the Union.
Conflict between the supporters and the opponents of nullification deepened. The issue of nullification
was intensely debated in the Senate, between Robert Y. Hayne and Daniel Webster. Hayne, senator
from South Carolina, defended states rights. He argued that nullification gave states a way to lawfully

Native American Education Essay
Children were taken away from their homes and told everything they knew was wrong. They were
sent to boarding schools to change their culture. These boarding schools were run by the United States
government. The government s goal was to civilize Native Americans. They sent children to these
schools against their will. Native American children were educated like Americans and they had to
change their native ways to be more like whites (Cayton 266). Teachers abused their students and beat
their native ways out of them. They were not allowed to see their families so they would try to escape,
but their attempts were unsuccessful. The United States government s Boarding Schools of the mid
late 1800s irreparably changed Native American culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crazy Horse was brutally murdered and the Sioux surrendered ( Battle ). In 1890 the government
learned that the Native Americans were doing the Ghost Dance (Cayton 265). The Ghost Dance was a
ritual in which people join hands and twirled in a circle (Cayton 265). When the government saw the
Ghost Dance, they thought the Native Americans were crazy and trying to rebel, so they tried to arrest
Sitting Bull (Cayton 265). In this conflict that came to be known as the Battle of Wounded Knee,
soldiers killed Sitting Bull, 120 men, and 230 women and children (Cayton 265). These battles pushed
Native Americans onto reservations and took away their basic human rights. Early Native American
schooling was taught in tribes. Tribes would teach their children healing arts and specialized crafts
like making shell money (Nash 173). Tribes used legends as a form of education a long time ago
(Fixico 41). These stories would teach important lessons like how to live in balance with nature. Many
tribes would make day schools to educate children on tribal sovereignty (Ellis). In the 1840s, the
Cherokees formed a system of public schools (Perdue 64). Education in tribes was an important right
of the Native Americans. The main goal of boarding schools was to civilize Native Americans. The
federal government wanted to solve The Indian Problem by assimilating Native Americans into white
culture and felt that education

The Influence Of The Middle Ages In Medieval Europe
Were the Middle Ages in Europe characterized more by hope or desire?
The early middle ages in Europe were characterized by conflict. Vikings, Eastern tribes, and Muslim
armies battered the continent from all sides. Most of the emperors were too weak to fight off the
threats after emperor charlemagne. Powerful nobles independently controlled their own land, in which
they usually were servile to their emperor. Feudalism then became the main political, social, and
economic organization of medieval Europe. Serfs worked as primarily farms but could be called to the
war at any time. They didn t have many rights but they could own their own freedom and work on
their own land, but most of them soaked in misery.
Monarchs had limited power and usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They built beautiful cathedrals and churches as a sign of their faith in God. When you visit a medieval
church or cathedral you do not get a feeling of despair. I would personally say that the Middle ages
were characterized by hope. The believed and had a deep feeling for Christ.
Towns grew larger during the middle ages and were centre of craft, commerce and trade. People were
able to grow rich through their business skills. There was always hope that a poor man might be able
to improve his lot in life.Even peasants, who are sometimes thought of as desperately poor and
wretched, could improve their lot in life. some peasants were better off than others, and some even
became wealthy through accumulating land. There were technological innovations. Farming methods
were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press.
The middle ages was a period of nothing but hope. They always looked for the positive in things and
always looked at the bright side of everything. There wasn t a time that they thought bad about a
situation. They always believed that the best would happen because of Christ and I think that is how
they got through what the did and succeeded as they did. They were extremely

They may become resentful at missing out on their childhood and present challenging behaviour. They
may suffer anxiety whilst away from home and worry about their parent, resulting in a failure to
engage in their education. They may not fulfil their potential in life as much of it will be dedicated to
being a carer. Having a parent with a long term illness or disability could also lead to financial
hardship due to lack of employment.
Criminal or anti social behaviour
Whether it is behaviour presented by the child, a sibling or parent it could result in the child being
taken into care. A parent could be absent for a length of time, if imprisoned, causing emotional stress.
The child may perceive the behaviour as normal or acceptable, especially if it is being carried out by
the parents and copy it. It may result in a transient lifestyle, as they could be re housed as a result of
anti social behaviour. This would result in the child suffering a disrupted education and struggling to
form long term stable friendships.
Addictions
The impact of addictions on children can be various. They can suffer health problems, if their mother
had a drug or alcohol problem during pregnancy. They may suffer poverty due to lack of employment,
or if the addiction is gambling.

The Impressions Of Timothy Treadwell s Grizzly Man
Imagine voluntarily getting into a cage with wild Grizzly Bears, and having nothing to defend
yourself. This is what Timothy Treadwell did, except he upped the ante and chose to live alongside the
Grizzly Bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska. The last 13 years of Treadwell s life, he spent the
summer months living with the bears. Grizzly Man is a film that was created by Werner Herzog. The
film show contains content that Treadwell filmed himself, as well as portions filmed after his death,
that have Werner interacting with people who knew Timothy very well. I believe that this film is very
well put together and does a great job of showing Treadwell s interactions with the bears, with
minimal input from the narrator. I enjoy this part of the film because it allows you to form your own
opinion of Treadwell and see what he thinks is best for himself and the bears. In this paper, I will be
touching on how Treadwell s actions throughout the film relate to writings done by; Michael Nelson,
J. Baird Callicott, and Reed Noss. Some of Nelson s wilderness preservation arguments fit right
alongside what Treadwell is doing on his expeditions. Calllicot and Noss focus on wilderness
alternatives and the impact that humans have on the environment. My first impressions of Timothy
Treadwell were that there is no possible way this man has become one of the bears and spends most of
his time right next to them. He looked weak to me and someone who could easily be dispatched of.

The Moral Of Moral Agents
Moral Agents
The moral agents in this situation are the parents, the children, and the application developer. The
parents are faced with the awkward situation of using the application to track their kids for a multitude
of reasons. One of the most apparent reasons would be to use the application with the intent of
knowing who their children are interacting with and possibly where they go when they are out of the
house. The children do have some possible choices to make regarding this supposed invasion of
privacy with varying degrees of moral standing. They could look into using applications that mask
their activity or employ the less moral route of removing the software entirely. Finally, the developer
himself is in control of the entire scenario since it all hangs on his choice of going forward with the
development of the application. After all, if he just refuses to take part in the project and takes the
consequences that follow such a choice, he is removed from the discussion entirely.
What is at stake? Who/What are the stakeholders? The most obvious stakeholder is the company that
develops the application. This company has to balance financial longevity with maintaining a moral
and legal standing in society. The primary goal of any software company is to make money and by
creating a controversial piece of software, this company is risking a potential loss of revenue in order
to be on the bleeding edge of new trends. If there is any sort of public backlash over the

Human Fascination with the Stars
Humans have been mesmerized by the stars since the beginning of their existence. This fascination is
documented throughout history from simple drawings in the caves of Neanderthals to the great minds
of Copernicus, Galileo, and Ptolemy, leading to today s massive research institutions such as the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (better known as NASA). The concept of time itself is
credited to the understanding of the universe. Our race s vast determination to explore space has led to
the most remarkable scientific discoveries and technological advancements. This willingness to push
boundaries in notably seen in NASA s Apollo 11 mission, where scientists were able to put a man on
the moon in just eight few years. The expansion of aeronautical and space knowledge has become
increasingly relevant in recent times as environmentalists and statisticians give forecast to the Earth s
irreversible death. 80 percent of the earth s natural forests have been destroyed and further
calculations indicate that oil, the precious black gold, will run out as early as 2060 (Boss). Conditions
will only get worse because of inevitable population growth as well; our planet will eventually run out
of space. The Earth s resources are not infinite, therefore as the fate of the human race is
contemplated, the search for a new life supporting planet is the highest priority for space exploration.
Currently, over 7 billion people populate the earth with an average population growth

The Truths And Myths Of Divorce
Abstract: The Truths and Myths of Divorce in America There are many facets to all divorces. Why did
a divorce happen, who is affected, and how do you move on? All of these questions are at the forefront
of not only the couple s mind, but also their families. Answering the question of who is more likely to
get divorced is a way to dive in to see why divorce happens and whom it affects. Next, diving in even
deeper to issues of divorce, the question of how children are affected plays a large role in the problem
of many divorced families. Children can have many different reactions to a divorce that can trouble
them for their entire lifetime, not just the few years after making a family adjustment. Finally, divorce
takes on a negative connotation in our society and rightly so; however, people fail to recognize that the
divorce rates of America are actually decreasing since the 1970s and 1980s. Although divorces are still
to frequent in America, it is encouraging to know that the sanctity of marriage is still engrained in our
society, and thankfully over the next decades we can hopefully see an even greater decline in divorce
rates.
1. Divorce= the legal dissolution of marriage according to the law
2. Divorce Revolution= a time between 1960s 1980s when divorce rates increased dramatically,
partially due to the new issue of no fault divorce

and marriage through statements

I Want To Become An Immigrant
I am an Eritrean national who was born and grew up in Eritrea. My parents are from poor background.
I have five siblings (Two sisters and three brothers).
I started education at the age of five and continued till I graduated with a BA degree in Eritrea.
Unfortunately, due to well founded fear of persecution I escaped Eritrea to Sudan illegally. More
precisely, I refused to become a victim of the evil treatment by the regime in Eritrea. Saying even a
word against the government in Eritrea, however, is considered as a grave crime in the eyes of the
tyrant regime. Consequently, I was arrested, detained, interrogated and badly treated in prison.
Luckily, I escaped the country illegally to save my life using a narrow chance to run away.

Admittedly, the connotation of the word refugee in itself tortured me for years since I left my country.

I Want To Become A Veterinarian Essay
I want to become a veterinarian after high school because, animals deserve to be happy. Most
domestic animals will be abused in their life, which is sickening. If an animal is abused I want to be
there to help them recover. My future job will change society because, animals make people happy
and if the animals are happy so are their owners. I think animals deserve to be seen by vets regularly
so that they stay as healthy as can be.
I want to become a veterinarian simply because, I will meet new animals and possibly travel the world
and open pet hospitals. There are many fields under the veterinarian roof. Some vets inspect pet food
to make sure it is up to the health code, while others try to detect food borne diseases, such as E coli,
in livestock (StudentScholarships.) I think being a vet is the best job for me because, working with
animals is fun and it s for a great cause. Being a vet has many perks, firstly veterinarians get paid
extremely well, secondly vets can be certified for other jobs like dentistry, and finally vets get to work
directly with animals on a daily basis and play a vital part in treating animals for diseases
(MediPathways.) Being a vet helps society in many ways, as stated above. ... Show more content on

The European Union ( Eu ) And Euro
It is finally sinking in that the euro is here to stay...The Eurozone is again a club with a queue not at

On 9 July 2013, Latvia achieved the required conditions to adopt the euro. Its exemption from
participating within the single currency was abrogated with effect from 1 January 2014 (European
Commission, 2014). By joining the currency which is used on a daily basis by over 330 million
Europeans, it has been suggested that economies will be strengthened, their belonging to the

firstly provide an overview on the history of the European Union (EU) and euro, here after a
discussion of the euro crisis and advantages and disadvantages to country s adoption of the euro for its
business and competition. Lastly, it will conclude with an evaluation of the decision to join the single
market currency.
The EU previously known as the European Community can be defined as a unique partnership
between 28 European member states operating as the world s largest single market. The union
originated in 1957 through its successor the European Economic Community (EEC) which at the time
had six members. In 2013, the market had a population of around 505 million people and accounted
for 23% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounting to €13.08 trillion (European

How Edgar Allan Poe s Writing Affected His Life The Cat, I remember, had been hung in a garden

made Edgar very upset. Edgar would lay by her grave due to how much he had missed her. Edgar had

Vietnam Scholarship Essay
Prior to the Sarah Bonnifield Vietnam Scholarship opportunity, I had never researched or been
educated on the unique importance of the Air Force in the Vietnam War. However, as I looked into it, I
became increasingly interested in and aware of the incredible significance the USAF played
throughout the duration of the war. The Air Force used novel strategies and adopted several new roles
in during Vietnam that had never been used in previous wars or conflicts. In addition to these tactics,
new technology and weapons emerged during this time period that changed the way that the Air Force
would be utilized in conflicts and wars from that point on. At the beginning of the war, the United
States involvement was limited to mostly supplying the South Vietnamese troops with training and
weaponry, etc. More specifically in the air, they also led reconnaissance missions against the VietCong
as well as search and rescue. After the Tonkin Gulf Incident, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

unrecognized by academia. There is to date no evidence of nuclear explosions prior to 1945. Instead,
the earliest reference to prehistoric nuclear warfare appears to be the Soviet mathematician and
ethnologist Matest M. Agrest, who argued in 1959 that Sodom and Gomorrah had been destroyed by
nuclear bombs from alien spaceships. This claim was brought to the attention of the other side of the
Iron Curtain through The Morning of the Magicians (1960), a French work by Louis Pauwels and
Jacques Bergier which outlined one of the earliest complete (nonfiction) versions of the modern
ancient astronaut t heory (see my eBook The Origin of the Space Gods) and, on page 122 of the 1963

Importance Of Building Community In Schools
Organizations tend to face many unique challenges. One of these challenges, especially in schools, is
building a sense of community. Thomas J. Sergiovanni s Building Community in Schools, first
published in 1994, asserts that in order for schools to improve in any and all aspects of the school
environment, the school should first place an emphasis on community building. Sergiovanni was a
professor of education at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where he taught in the school
leadership program and in the teacher education program. He worked in the education field from the
time of his graduation from the State University of New York in 1958 until his retirement in 2009.
During that time, he authored more than 30 textbooks and journal articles.
Throughout Building Community in Schools, Sergiovanni repeatedly refers to two Russian terms:
gemeinschaft (community) and gesellschaft (society). He uses these terms in order to better describe
the community building process within schools. The main theme of this book is that every person
within a school plays an important role in how effective the school can become by building on the
basic premise that a team can accomplish much more than an individual. The author touches on how
we are losing a sense of community and why this is not in the best interest of our children. He also
expounds on the importance of community building, not only in schools, but why it is essential to our
development as human beings. This book is a must read for any educator as it gives great insight into
the importance of community in education.
The book starts with a preface in which Sergiovanni builds the framework for the importance of
community in schools. Sergiovanni states that when a school has a sense of community it lifts both
teachers and students to higher levels of understanding, commitment, and performance beyond the
reaches of the shortcomings and difficulties they face in their everyday lives. Once again, this is the
basic premise for the entire book: that more can be accomplished by a team than an individual.
The beginning of the book focuses on how community loss has come about, how it is affecting our
schools, and why it is important to rebuild community.

Comparing Chesapeake and New England Bay Colonies Essay
Comparing Chesapeake and New England Bay Colonies
Curiosity and bravery led the English to discover the nations of America.
These strong willed Europeans, determined to find to a new world, set out with high hopes and
ambitions. Settling a variety of colonies along the coast of North
America, the English were among the first true pioneers. After several expeditions and ships loads of
emigrants, the English had a divergence of reasons for departing Europe for America. The settlers of
the Chesapeake and
New England colonies, were foreigners to the land, established two exceptional but contrary societies
due to the diversity of English citizens. Chesapeake and

Compelled to sail to America in search of religious toleration these English soon founded Plymouth

free of religious prosecution. Coming to
America for entirely opposite motivations, cause these two colonies began to contrast from the very
start.
Controlling the colonies dealing with separate perspectives on life,
Governor John Winthrop of the Massachusetts Bay colony (part of New
England) and Governor William Berkley of the Virginia colony (part of
Chesapeake) had a difference in views on the upraising of a community.
According to John Winthrop all people are equal; the rich, the poor, the mean, and the powerful. With
God at the center of the New England colony, the pilgrims believed in working together as one for the
glory of God, where the colonist at Chesapeake believed that one man could be better then another. In
1630 while Governor Winthrop was aboard the Arbella he writes that the community needs to uphold
a fellowship together. Their unity should be abided by one spirit of peace for everyone is a worthy
servant of Christ. On the other hand Governor Berkeley viewpoint was quite varied form that of

Toilet Seat Dermatitis Essay
A CASE REPORT OF TOILET SEAT DERMATITIS
ABSTRACT:
Toilet seat dermatitis is a contact dermatitis involving the posterior thighs and the gluteal region
resulting from contact with toilet seats. It was commonly seen with wooden toilet seats. It is more
frequently seen on usage of public toilets where harsher cleansers are used. Here we describe a case of
pruritic symmentric erythematous eruption over the posterior thighs and the lower gluteal area in a 5
year old atopic boy.
Key words: Toilet seat dermatitis, contact dermatitis, irritant dermatitis.
INTRODUCTION:
Toilet seat dermatitis was first described in in 1927 by Mackee who stated that it was a form of contact
dermatitis occurring on the gluteal area and thighs coming in contact with the ... Show more content

Detergents were used to clean the toilet seats regularly. No toilet seat cover was used.
On examination erythematous scaly excoriated papules were seen over the posterior thighs and the
lower gluteal area. These are the areas which come in contact with the toilet seat. No lesions were seen
elsewhere. Systemic examination was normal.
A diagnosis of toilet seat dermatitis was made and the child was treated with topical corticosteroids,
emollients and antihistamines. The mother was advised to avoid harsh cleansers, to clean the toilet
bowl and seat every day and to use toilet seat covers or newspapers to avoid direct contact of the toilet
seat with the skin. The lesions resolved completely in two weeks. Figure 1: Erythematous papules and
plaques seen over the lower buttocks and posterior thighs.
DISCUSSION:
Toilet seat dermatitis can be an allergic or irritant contact dermatitis. Previously when wooden toilet
seats were used, allergic contact dermatitis was seen to the varnishes, lacquers [2] or Sudan stain [5]
present in the wooden toilet seats. Polyurethane toilet seats have also been reported to cause allergic
contact toilet seat dermatitis due to reaction of isocyanates

Differences Between The Middle Colonies And The Southern...
The three regional colonies which are New England, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies
did not exactly merge by the outbreak of the revolution because of distinct ethnic grouping that
existed in Americas at the time. Immigration to the Americas began in the seventeenth century with
England being the primary source of immigration, however, it was not until the eighteenth century that
thousands of people from continental Europe fled their homes to the new territory to avoid war and
oppression. Once settled in America, the array of ethnic groups led to division between different
colonies, more so between the three regional alignments which were New England, the Middle
Colonies and the Southern Colonies. The economic, political, and social subsistence of each colony
was different and this contributed to the division that existed. New England capitalized on ship

The Southern Colony was predominantly rural and members of this colony enjoyed overseas culture,

Introduction
The winds of change are blowing, and as we progress into the information age, investigative
journalism is something which will affect all of us either as consumers, members of special interest
groups, business persons, or members of the general public. Organizations and especially businesses
will be forced in the years ahead to deal with investigative reporters in an open and forthright manner.

We established some message objectives which were based upon overall corporate objectives and
identification of image problems in the market. These are extremely important in any interview
situation. These are key points we would make if we had free air time. This is the heart of dealing
successfully with investigative reporters. The message objectives we established were:
Coors has fair hiring practices and is a good place to work. The boycott is unfair and is carried on by a
few rejected union officials. Coors cares about its employees, its products, its community, and its
country. Coors is not anti union. Coors makes a unique quality beer.
Plan Elements:
Make sure certain officers were adequately prepared prior to the Wallace interview. Maintain an open
door policy with 60 Minutes throughout the investigation. Perform informal and formal research to
measure results of the broadcast. Share 60 Minutes with employees and distributors after the show s

Poverty Causes Of Poverty
Madagascar is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It has such a diverse selection of flora
and fauna. The country is known for housing many species of animals that other countries do not.
Madagascar has over 200,000 different species of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, etc ( Madagascar
Wildlife for Kids ). Their landscapes are absolutely breathtaking, with gorgeous sunsets in the
springtime to tie in the beauty. But, then you move along to the towns of Madagascar, and these are
the most devastating of all. With Madagascar suffering heavily from poverty, their lifestyle is tragic.
Their living conditions are poor, healthcare is almost non existent, jobs are limited, and education is
deteriorating. The way in which these people live is truly heartbreaking to see. Madagascar is in major
poverty for a number of reasons. One reason the country suffers is because of the past Kleptocratic
Rule it endured, which affected its money situation greatly. The previous French Dictator, Didier
Ratsiraka, and other workers of the government stole excessive amounts of money from the Aid and
Development of Madagascar Fund. This kind of corruption caused friction when the country tried to
invest and trade with other countries( Why is Madagascar so Poor? ). A poorly organized government
can lead to a poorly organized country, which is another reason why Madagascar suffers. There are
only about 5,780 kilometers of paved roads out of the 49,827 kilometers of marked roads the country
has. The road conditions, as one can imagine, are dreadful. Cyclones and other types of annual storms
are to blame for this. But, to help build and repair roads, the past President, Marc Ravalomanana,
helped to repair the damaged infrastructure the country holds. Furthermore, the Madagascar has a very
small population of about twenty four million people, meaning that there is not a lot of money being
funneled into the government, which can be a leading problem in lack of infrastructure. Lastly, due to
the country s shortcomings in the economy, no other country really wants to develop, transport, or sell
goods there, which is a problem when it comes to the citizens buying goods. This can also send
market prices soaring, if some items

McQueen and Knussen (2002) are of the view that, there are many techniques available to a researcher

Essay on Benjamin Franklin Gender Roles
Gender and the Age of Reason
In these two books, we have the story of a young man coming of age and finding success in the world
and the story of a young woman coming of age and failing to do so. In either book, what gender roles
prevailed?
In The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, we are reading the path that one man took to go from a
middle class child to a well respected adult. Benjamin Franklin created what we know today as the
American dream. Today we understand the American dream to be that one can go from rags to riches
with a little hard work. The autobiography is based around the age of reason and a time man was
thought to be able to be perfected by means of science and invention. The Autobiography of Benjamin

Benjamin Franklin is known as a political figure and scientist/inventor. Learning the importance of
debate at such a young age clearly served him in great and many ways. Benjamin Franklin spent his
teen years practicing his writing. In 1720, James started a newspaper known as the New England
Courant. According to Franklin, this was the second newspaper in America. Franklin worked as a
delivery boy and would publish his own writings anonymously. Franklin often disputed politics and
books with another bookish lad by the name of John Collins. One of their arguments speaks directly
about the female gender during the 1700 s. A question was once, somehow or other, started between
Collins and me, of the propriety of educating the female sex in learning, and their abilities for study.

There was a cool breeze coming from the Lake, the waves were rolling into shore and nothing else but

someone would do if they heard a gunshot at this time of night. There was also another witness at the

It also indicates the ignorance of the public as they are not fully informed about the tragedy of war so
they have no idea of the circumstances of war as most photographs are not being published.
The darkness in his room, in his darkness he is finally alone , is a reflection of his depressed feeling in
remembrance of the awful events he has witnessed. The horrific experience is so long lasting, which
will dwell in his memory continually as represents by run on lines.
The simile chosen to compare the photographer with a priest preparing to intone a mass is effective.
The reader can clearly picture the inside of a catholic church in their mind, with red lights glowing
softly. It also assures that what the photographer is doing is holy and heroic as danger and risks are
involved, fields which explode beneath the feet of running children in a nightmare heat. But the
photographer still accepts the challenge.
As for the sound effect, the alliteration of the s sound, with spools of suffering set out in ordered rows
, illustrates the silent and isolated atmosphere the photographer is in the photographic studio. With
eyes rhyming with cries , it heightens our sympathy towards the victims in war as it appeals to both
the readers sense of hearing and seeing. Not only does the suffering turn out to be more descriptive

their approach. Just because the other eight women don t follow the justice system route, it doesn t
mean they are not speaking out in other ways.
In a society that has normalized the abnormal and which appears complacent about the extraordinarily
high level of violence against women and children, the members of the campaign are determined to
keep speaking out. Its important that we having voices that point out that this is not an acceptable state
for women to be living in. It also helps survivors by affirming that this is not normal. At the same time
we are aware of the consequences of women speaking truth to power and are careful not to endanger
members of the campaign.

ABSTRACT
802.11 wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) becomes most important these days. Whether it would
be simple range extender for a home wired Ethernet interface, or as a wireless interface, WLAN
provides mobility, ease of access and affordable. Most of the 802.11 wireless network uses the
frequency of 2.4GHz, which leads the network to be unsafe and more vulnerable than traditional
Ethernet networks. In general, security issues for the Network layer has been discussed rapidly, but
where as for MAC layer security mechanisms has not been extensively discussed. Wireless network
security has gained attention due to the vulnerabilities exposed in the open communication platform.
Most prevalent wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is IEEE 802.11, which considers all
the nodes in the network are safe cooperative. However, attackers may make nodes misbehave in
order to disrupt network performance, obtain extra bandwidth and consume resources. These MAC
layer misbehaviors can be called as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks which can disrupt the network
operation. Influencing security flaws in the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol even an average person with
basic knowledge on wireless networks can launch MAC layer denial of service (DOS) attacks. In this
paper we study two types of MAC layer Denial Of Service attacks that can be easily operated by an

Essay about The Mirror Neuron and its Role in Action...
Although the control of action in humans is fairly well understood, the processes that underlie action
understanding from observation are much more unclear. In general, action understanding refers to the
ability to recognize the purpose of an action performed by another person (Hickok 2008). Two
prominent theories exist to explain this phenomenon. The first posits that action understanding is an
inferential process that integrates contextual clues to determine the goal of a movement. In contrast,
the second theory asserts that action understanding arises from the simulation of the observed action in
the motor areas of the viewer (Brass et al. 2007). While the inferential process theory enjoyed a period
of general acceptance, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers concluded that this indicated mirror neurons coded not just for action, but the goals of
action. Kohler and colleagues (2007) expanded on this idea, showing that some neurons were
activated with the mere sound of the result of an intended action (i.e. cracking a peanut). The authors
asserted that this indicated that mirror neurons were so tuned to goals that the sound of an action
reaching its goal was enough for the macaque to understand the entire action that would have been
involved. The results of both studies were said to apply neatly to humans as well. That is, if action
understanding is supported by the mirror neuron system of macaques, it is most likely supported by
the human mirror neuron system (hMNS). There are two major problems with this view. First, it has
been shown that human mirror neurons are much more broadly tuned than monkeys. There is not
enough evidence to generalize macaque studies to humans in this way (Hickok 2008). Second, both of
these studies fail to acknowledge that the activation of mirror neurons may have been the result, or a
byproduct, of understanding rather than the cause. Their activity, then, may only have reflected
understanding earlier in processing.
If action understanding in humans is predominantly reliant on mirror neurons, then these neurons
should respond preferentially to the ends of an action rather than the means; however, this is not the
case. Hesse and

Sidney Bechet Impact On Jazz
From Bechet to Marsalis: The Evolution of Jazz
Jazz: An overview
In the 20th century, Jazz was one of the most expressive forms of music around, as it was just starting
out and was born in a time where victims of oppression were beginning to stand up and rebel. In
comparison to classical music, Jazz is a very new genre of music. It s evolution is vividly evident in it
s contrast of instrumentation, dynamics, and the introduction of modal jazz which I will discuss later
on in this essay. One of the first jazz virtuoso s that appeared and had a significant influence on jazz,
was Sidney Bechet, on clarinet and saxophone.

With this popularity, jazz musicians decided to form larger ensembles, known as Big Bands . These
big bands would typically consist of trumpets, saxophones, trombones, drums, bass (or double bass),
piano and would usually have a soloist. These bands were like the symphony orchestras of jazz. A few
of the most popular big bands would ve been led by Chick Webb, Paul Whiteman, Glenn Miller, Ted
Lewis and an all female big band named Helen Lewis and her all girl jazz syncopaters . The popularity
of these groups was astounding. They were selling out venues everywhere and going on regular tours
across America. These bands would have some impeccably skilled jazz musicians as soloist s also
such as Bix Beiderbecke and Dizzy Gillespie. One big band that stood out from this era would be
Benny Goodman s big band. Their popularity was almost unbelievable. Benny himself was widely
known as the King of Swing and had some of the most dedicated fans at the time. Radio was the most
important aspect for Benny as his recordings would be heard by a wider audience. This ultimately led
to the crazy fan base he gained. For example, in their performance at the Stanley Theatre, it was
reported that most of the audience were dancing down the aisles to the music. People had never
experienced music like this before. It was almost like an explosion of life and freedom, caused by a
wave of new and exciting music. Goodman s performance at

The World Wide Web By Tim Berners Lee
The World Wide Web was planned by Tim Berners Lee in 1989 with the first successful test taking
place in 1990. It is a collection of internet servers that support formatted documents in a mark up
language called HTML (Hyper Text Mark up Language) that can contain hyperlinks leading to other
documents such as images, videos and graphic files. You can move from one document to another by
clicking on hot spots (Links). At first the World Wide Web started of very simple. There were just
static pages that users could only really look at, the only action they are able to do was move to other
pages. But now, the World Wide Web is much more social and there are lots of ways you can interact
with the pages that can be found on the World Wide Web. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

4 Domain Structure
A domain structure is a collection of computers which maintain their own security and account
management locally. All logins are on the domain and locally logged in users have their own files and
application servers. Companies generally have domains for each sector of the business. Sub domains
are smaller parts of a larger domain for example, calender.google.com, plus.google.com and
blog.awebsite.me. There are also TLDs (Top Level Domains) which are things like .com, .org and
.co.uk. These top level domains and sub domains are all connected to their own IP addresses.
5 Domain Name Registrars;
Domain name registrars are a company that controls the reservation of internet domain names. The
user will pay a fee to the company so they can keep the domain name; this fee can be monthly or just a
flat fee. The domain name registrars use systems to translate IP addresses into easily recognizable
domains. A domain name registrar must be recognised by a generic top level domain (gTLD) registry
and also a country code top level domain (ccTLD) registry, however only one will sometimes only
need to be recognised.

The Road Movie In Outer Space Analysis
In the two essays presented, Genre, Gender, and Hysteria, The Road Movie in Outer Space by Tim
Corrigan and Steven Cohan s The Road Movie Book Introduction, concepts of the beginning of the
road movie genre, how it related to social and political environments of the time a movie was made,
and changes in the style of protagonist are discussed and examined equally but differently. Road films
have been part of American films from the beginning of Hollywood movies. Their categories have
included action adventure, comedies, crime, dramas, gangster, and westerns films. Road films have
also expanded their popularity from the outback of Australia, as we ve seen in Beneath Clouds, Rabbit
Proof Fence and The Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. The common theme present is a
journey on the open road, searching for an escape of the life they lead, and reaching a goal while
following the personal development of the characters during the journey. The appeal for the
international community with this genre of movies comes with the portrayal of experimentation and
innovation. This is further enhanced by the perception that Americans are a nation of dreamers and
women are free spirited. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Road movies enhance this notion with being free of the religious establishment and the government
establishment allowing one s self to expand beyond the societal structure to test the possible
boundaries. Steven Cohan combines a collection of diverse and engaging excerpts on movies from
Bob Hope to Thelma and Louise to illustrate this point. The movies discussed in this essay chronicle
road movies from America over the course of history from the Great Depression, to World War II,
through current times. The nature of American society is brought to light through the presentation of a

Reasons For The Collapse Of The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was at one point the envy of the ancient world. At it s peak in 117 C.E, the empire
spanned from western Europe to northern Africa, through the Mediterranean Sea and into western
Asia. From about 27 B.C.E. to 476 C.E.. Rome was notorious for holding the name of the world s
greatest empire, as Ancient Rome oftentimes furnished civilians with essential necessities such as
jobs, food, and spices. Moreover, forms of entertainment including, holding a plenitude of concerts
and plays were provided to Roman citizens. However, this era of opulence quickly ceased and
conflicts began to emerge through the empire. In turn, by 500 C.E. , the western half of the empire had
begun to collapse, as did the eastern part of the empire after another thousand years. The three
fundamental elements that justify the collapse of the Roman Empire include the economic and social
problems, political instability, as well as the weakening frontiers the civilization had within.
One main factor on as to why the Roman empire fell was because of the flood of economic and social
problems the civilization faced. The overwhelming majority of people had been excluded from
playing an active role in their own government...could not serve in the army (Doc 1). With a large
portion of the inhabitants of the Roman Empire not having the ability to be a part of the government
and/or not join the army, contention began to spark amongst the public. One can observe from this that
due to not permitting

The Difference Between Volunteer And Large Telemarkote Calls
There been numerous studies conducted to see if telephone calls actually produce the desired effect.
There is a significant difference in the mobilization of voters using telephone calls between the
volunteer and the large telemarketing call centers. Studies have shown an increase in voter turnout of
nearly 3 to 5% for volunteer callers, while most commercial call centers do not have much of a
significant impact on getting voters to the polls. Yet, most of the common forms of political campaign
calls do come from the telemarketing call centers. To try and understand why this is a look at how
both the volunteer and telemarketing call centers interact with the potential voter during the phone
conversation was conducted. The telemarketing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general the findings indicate that in the American Society positive social norms that come with
voting and those who are contacted and give the response to the affirmative that they will vote seemed
to be more effective than a onetime contact. It has long been understood that when one gets a written
or verbal commitment generally that has been followed through in the commitment kept. Simply put
that asking someone to commit to vote can increase the possibility they will. Also a while person
thinks with the intent of commitment this influences person to vote. Phone calls either from volunteers
or the large telemarketing firms may not bring a large amount of voters to the polls yet; they do play
an essential part in the overall outcome of getting voters to the polls. It s not that phone calls are
ineffective it seems to be more in how the phones scripts are delivered is what is showing to be
lacking.
DOOR KNOCKERS Another important part of the political campaigning is the door knocker these
door to door canvassers play a very important role in the campaign. This part of the campaign offers a
more personal interaction with a potential voter. The door knocker offers the in person interaction and
conversation by delivering the campaign message and at the same time giving the voter the
opportunity to ask questions or give comments. There s still much debate over

IEA Mandate Essay
IDEA mandates are paramount in the daily operation of schools. IDEA outlines thirteen eligibility
areas to which a child can be referred to Special Education. When a student is eligible for Special
Education services they are required to receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the
Least Restrictive Environment. It is because of this law that I am employed in my current position in
our district. The poor ratings of surrounding school districts and the high ratings of our district has
caused a fast increase of students enrollment in both general education and special education. Our
district was beginning to see a major problem in placement of special education students. Students
were placed in either general education classes, resource for academic assistance, or life skills. Our

committee approach to student s education and parent collaboration in the IEP process. I must legally
send progress reports each six weeks updating parents on their child s progress towards their goals. I
must also provide the general education teacher with student s IEPs and assist in collaborating to help

Defining Class And Social Structure Of Social Class
Defining Class is hard to do as there are many different approaches to defining class one can take. We
can look at class as a subjective location, how do people, individually and collectively, locate
themselves and others within a social structure of inequality? Or we could define class as the
relational explanation of economic life chance What explains inequalities in economically defined life
chances and material standards of living of individuals and families? The challenging nature of class
in contemporary society comes from the fact that there has never been an academic consensus the
definition of class (due to the fact that class in its very nature is an abstract and subjective term).
However, this essay will argue that class is an amalgamation of how individuals and the collective
locate themselves, and the relational explanation of economic life chance as well as policy and
politics. This is done using Weberian and Marxian definitions of social class and exploring the role of
power and power relations in creating a class society. Exploring the similarities as well as differences
between the definitions of class presented by Karl Marx and Max Weber; in order to inform the
approach this essay will be taking in discussing whether or not ours is a class society.
By our society this essay will be referring to modern western society, specifically focusing on Great
Britain. Looking at the contemporary examples of class using examples from politics and policy, the

  • 2. Tuck Everlasting Point Of View Time moves forward, and only forward. It s a circle we are born, raised, we live, then we die. But have you ever imagined what would happen if you were endowed with immortality? What if you could not die no matter how many decades had passed, while the world around you keeps changing and everyone else keeps aging? Would it be wonderful to live forever like that? Then you should take a look at Tuck Everlasting, a novel written by Natalie Babbitt in 1975 which focuses on the negative side of immortality. The narrative point of view used in the novel is the third person omniscient, like most of the stories we were told as children. Our narrator, the author, knows everything. She can zoom in and out on all the characters, jump from place to place, and even read the thoughts of the main characters. The Prologue tells us all: At dawn, Mae Tuck set out on her horse... At noontime, Winnie Foster, whose family owned the Treegap wood,... And at sunset a stranger appeared at the Fosters gate. There is no connection among them. But these are the three main storylines, and the narrator knows them all. This point of view really fits a story with lots of characters, that spans many years and has different settings like Tuck Everlasting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The geographical location of Treegap is not specified, perhaps to convey the impression that the events might happen in any small town. In the woods at the edge of Treegap, the Tucks live a simple life and want to keep the secret of the eternal life giving stream to themselves. The Tucks cabin is a plain, homely house with a charming disarray, and its inhabitants are friendly and ostensibly prioritize human relationships above meticulous property maintenance. In contrast to the disorganized and messy property of the Tucks, the Fosters house is guarded by a heavy iron gate and a sign informing visitors they are unwelcome. Everything is neatly maintained and in its proper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Andrew Jackson s Views On The Election Of 1824 Andrew Jackson s path to presidency was unique. In the election of 1824, there were four main candidates, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, William H. Crawford, and Andrew Jackson. Jackson gained the most popular votes of the four Democratic Republican candidates, but not the majority of electoral votes to win the election. Henry Clay, who was eliminated from the election, held a decisive position as the speaker of the House of Representatives. Clay was in a position to throw the election to the candidate of his choice. Clay threw his support behind Adams since he had led some of the strongest attacks against Jackson. Rather than the nation s presidency go to a man he abhorred, Clay secured the White House for Adams. In return Adams named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Northerners supported tariffs because tariffs helped them compete with British factories. The South s economy was based on farming. Southerners imported their manufactured goods. Tariffs made imported goods more expensive for southern farmer which led to their opposition. Angry Southerners called the tariff the Tariff of Abominations. The new tariff added fuel to the growing sectional differences plaguing the young nation. When Andrew Jackson took office in 1829, he was forced to respond to the growing conflict over tariffs. Vice President John C. Calhoun joined his fellow southerners in protest when Congress passed the Tariff of Abominations. In response to the tariff, Calhoun drafted the South Carolina Exposition and Protest. It urged states to nullify the Tariff of Abominations and used it to argue that since the states created the national government they decided when the national laws apply. Calhoun s theory was controversial, and it drew some fierce challengers. Many of them were from the northern states that had benefited from increased tariffs. These opponents believed that the American people, not the individual states, made up the Union. Conflict between the supporters and the opponents of nullification deepened. The issue of nullification was intensely debated in the Senate, between Robert Y. Hayne and Daniel Webster. Hayne, senator from South Carolina, defended states rights. He argued that nullification gave states a way to lawfully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Native American Education Essay Children were taken away from their homes and told everything they knew was wrong. They were sent to boarding schools to change their culture. These boarding schools were run by the United States government. The government s goal was to civilize Native Americans. They sent children to these schools against their will. Native American children were educated like Americans and they had to change their native ways to be more like whites (Cayton 266). Teachers abused their students and beat their native ways out of them. They were not allowed to see their families so they would try to escape, but their attempts were unsuccessful. The United States government s Boarding Schools of the mid late 1800s irreparably changed Native American culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crazy Horse was brutally murdered and the Sioux surrendered ( Battle ). In 1890 the government learned that the Native Americans were doing the Ghost Dance (Cayton 265). The Ghost Dance was a ritual in which people join hands and twirled in a circle (Cayton 265). When the government saw the Ghost Dance, they thought the Native Americans were crazy and trying to rebel, so they tried to arrest Sitting Bull (Cayton 265). In this conflict that came to be known as the Battle of Wounded Knee, soldiers killed Sitting Bull, 120 men, and 230 women and children (Cayton 265). These battles pushed Native Americans onto reservations and took away their basic human rights. Early Native American schooling was taught in tribes. Tribes would teach their children healing arts and specialized crafts like making shell money (Nash 173). Tribes used legends as a form of education a long time ago (Fixico 41). These stories would teach important lessons like how to live in balance with nature. Many tribes would make day schools to educate children on tribal sovereignty (Ellis). In the 1840s, the Cherokees formed a system of public schools (Perdue 64). Education in tribes was an important right of the Native Americans. The main goal of boarding schools was to civilize Native Americans. The federal government wanted to solve The Indian Problem by assimilating Native Americans into white culture and felt that education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Influence Of The Middle Ages In Medieval Europe Were the Middle Ages in Europe characterized more by hope or desire? The early middle ages in Europe were characterized by conflict. Vikings, Eastern tribes, and Muslim armies battered the continent from all sides. Most of the emperors were too weak to fight off the threats after emperor charlemagne. Powerful nobles independently controlled their own land, in which they usually were servile to their emperor. Feudalism then became the main political, social, and economic organization of medieval Europe. Serfs worked as primarily farms but could be called to the war at any time. They didn t have many rights but they could own their own freedom and work on their own land, but most of them soaked in misery. Monarchs had limited power and usually ... When you visit a medieval church or cathedral you do not get a feeling of despair. I would personally say that the Middle ages were characterized by hope. The believed and had a deep feeling for Christ. Towns grew larger during the middle ages and were centre of craft, commerce and trade. People were able to grow rich through their business skills. There was always hope that a poor man might be able to improve his lot in life.Even peasants, who are sometimes thought of as desperately poor and wretched, could improve their lot in life. some peasants were better off than others, and some even became wealthy through accumulating land. There were technological innovations. Farming methods were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press. The middle ages was a period of nothing but hope. They always looked for the positive in things and always looked at the bright side of everything. There wasn t a time that they thought bad about a situation. • 9. The Impressions Of Timothy Treadwell s Grizzly Man Imagine voluntarily getting into a cage with wild Grizzly Bears, and having nothing to defend yourself. This is what Timothy Treadwell did, except he upped the ante and chose to live alongside the Grizzly Bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska. The last 13 years of Treadwell s life, he spent the summer months living with the bears. Grizzly Man is a film that was created by Werner Herzog. The film show contains content that Treadwell filmed himself, as well as portions filmed after his death, that have Werner interacting with people who knew Timothy very well. I believe that this film is very well put together and does a great job of showing Treadwell s interactions with the bears, with minimal input from the narrator. I enjoy this part of the film because it allows you to form your own opinion of Treadwell and see what he thinks is best for himself and the bears. In this paper, I will be touching on how Treadwell s actions throughout the film relate to writings done by; Michael Nelson, J. Baird Callicott, and Reed Noss. Some of Nelson s wilderness preservation arguments fit right alongside what Treadwell is doing on his expeditions. Calllicot and Noss focus on wilderness alternatives and the impact that humans have on the environment. My first impressions of Timothy Treadwell were that there is no possible way this man has become one of the bears and spends most of his time right next to them. He looked weak to me and someone who could easily be dispatched of. Maybe this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Moral Of Moral Agents Moral Agents The moral agents in this situation are the parents, the children, and the application developer. The parents are faced with the awkward situation of using the application to track their kids for a multitude of reasons. One of the most apparent reasons would be to use the application with the intent of knowing who their children are interacting with and possibly where they go when they are out of the house. The children do have some possible choices to make regarding this supposed invasion of privacy with varying degrees of moral standing. They could look into using applications that mask their activity or employ the less moral route of removing the software entirely. Finally, the developer himself is in control of the entire scenario since it all hangs on his choice of going forward with the development of the application. After all, if he just refuses to take part in the project and takes the consequences that follow such a choice, he is removed from the discussion entirely. What is at stake? Who/What are the stakeholders? The most obvious stakeholder is the company that develops the application. This company has to balance financial longevity with maintaining a moral and legal standing in society. • 11. Human Fascination with the Stars Humans have been mesmerized by the stars since the beginning of their existence. This fascination is documented throughout history from simple drawings in the caves of Neanderthals to the great minds of Copernicus, Galileo, and Ptolemy, leading to today s massive research institutions such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (better known as NASA). The concept of time itself is credited to the understanding of the universe. Our race s vast determination to explore space has led to the most remarkable scientific discoveries and technological advancements. This willingness to push boundaries in notably seen in NASA s Apollo 11 mission, where scientists were able to put a man on the moon in just eight few years. The expansion of aeronautical and space knowledge has become increasingly relevant in recent times as environmentalists and statisticians give forecast to the Earth s irreversible death. 80 percent of the earth s natural forests have been destroyed and further calculations indicate that oil, the precious black gold, will run out as early as 2060 (Boss). Conditions will only get worse because of inevitable population growth as well; our planet will eventually run out of space. The Earth s resources are not infinite, therefore as the fate of the human race is contemplated, the search for a new life supporting planet is the highest priority for space exploration. • 12. The Truths And Myths Of Divorce Abstract: The Truths and Myths of Divorce in America There are many facets to all divorces. Why did a divorce happen, who is affected, and how do you move on? All of these questions are at the forefront of not only the couple s mind, but also their families. Answering the question of who is more likely to get divorced is a way to dive in to see why divorce happens and whom it affects. Next, diving in even deeper to issues of divorce, the question of how children are affected plays a large role in the problem of many divorced families. Children can have many different reactions to a divorce that can trouble them for their entire lifetime, not just the few years after making a family adjustment. Finally, divorce takes on a negative connotation in our society and rightly so; however, people fail to recognize that the divorce rates of America are actually decreasing since the 1970s and 1980s. Although divorces are still to frequent in America, it is encouraging to know that the sanctity of marriage is still engrained in our society, and thankfully over the next decades we can hopefully see an even greater decline in divorce rates. 1. Divorce= the legal dissolution of marriage according to the law 2. Divorce Revolution= a time between 1960s 1980s when divorce rates increased dramatically, partially due to the new issue of no fault divorce The Truths and Myths of Divorce in America People continuously dwell on the pitfalls of our society and marriage through statements ... Most domestic animals will be abused in their life, which is sickening. If an animal is abused I want to be there to help them recover. My future job will change society because, animals make people happy and if the animals are happy so are their owners. I think animals deserve to be seen by vets regularly so that they stay as healthy as can be. I want to become a veterinarian simply because, I will meet new animals and possibly travel the world and open pet hospitals. There are many fields under the veterinarian roof. Some vets inspect pet food to make sure it is up to the health code, while others try to detect food borne diseases, such as E coli, in livestock (StudentScholarships.) I think being a vet is the best job for me because, working with animals is fun and it s for a great cause. Being a vet has many perks, firstly veterinarians get paid extremely well, secondly vets can be certified for other jobs like dentistry, and finally vets get to work directly with animals on a daily basis and play a vital part in treating animals for diseases (MediPathways.) On 9 July 2013, Latvia achieved the required conditions to adopt the euro. Its exemption from participating within the single currency was abrogated with effect from 1 January 2014 (European Commission, 2014). By joining the currency which is used on a daily basis by over 330 million Europeans, it has been suggested that economies will be strengthened, their belonging to the community of European states as well as national identity (Eurozone Portal, 2014). This essay will firstly provide an overview on the history of the European Union (EU) and euro, here after a discussion of the euro crisis and advantages and disadvantages to country s adoption of the euro for its business and competition. Lastly, it will conclude with an evaluation of the decision to join the single market currency. The EU previously known as the European Community can be defined as a unique partnership between 28 European member states operating as the world s largest single market. The union originated in 1957 through its successor the European Economic Community (EEC) which at the time had six members. In 2013, the market had a population of around 505 million people and accounted for 23% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounting to €13.08 trillion (European Immigration Service, 2014). However, as I looked into it, I became increasingly interested in and aware of the incredible significance the USAF played throughout the duration of the war. The Air Force used novel strategies and adopted several new roles in during Vietnam that had never been used in previous wars or conflicts. In addition to these tactics, new technology and weapons emerged during this time period that changed the way that the Air Force would be utilized in conflicts and wars from that point on. At the beginning of the war, the United States involvement was limited to mostly supplying the South Vietnamese troops with training and weaponry, etc. More specifically in the air, they also led reconnaissance missions against the VietCong as well as search and rescue. • 22. Importance Of Building Community In Schools Organizations tend to face many unique challenges. One of these challenges, especially in schools, is building a sense of community. Thomas J. Sergiovanni s Building Community in Schools, first published in 1994, asserts that in order for schools to improve in any and all aspects of the school environment, the school should first place an emphasis on community building. Sergiovanni was a professor of education at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where he taught in the school leadership program and in the teacher education program. He worked in the education field from the time of his graduation from the State University of New York in 1958 until his retirement in 2009. During that time, he authored more than 30 textbooks and journal articles. Throughout Building Community in Schools, Sergiovanni repeatedly refers to two Russian terms: gemeinschaft (community) and gesellschaft (society). He uses these terms in order to better describe the community building process within schools. The main theme of this book is that every person within a school plays an important role in how effective the school can become by building on the basic premise that a team can accomplish much more than an individual. The author touches on how we are losing a sense of community and why this is not in the best interest of our children. He also expounds on the importance of community building, not only in schools, but why it is essential to our development as human beings. This book is a must read for any educator as it gives great insight into the importance of community in education. The book starts with a preface in which Sergiovanni builds the framework for the importance of community in schools. Sergiovanni states that when a school has a sense of community it lifts both teachers and students to higher levels of understanding, commitment, and performance beyond the reaches of the shortcomings and difficulties they face in their everyday lives. Once again, this is the basic premise for the entire book: that more can be accomplished by a team than an individual. The beginning of the book focuses on how community loss has come about, how it is affecting our schools, and why it is important to rebuild community. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The country is known for housing many species of animals that other countries do not. Their landscapes are absolutely breathtaking, with gorgeous sunsets in the springtime to tie in the beauty. But, then you move along to the towns of Madagascar, and these are the most devastating of all. With Madagascar suffering heavily from poverty, their lifestyle is tragic. Their living conditions are poor, healthcare is almost non existent, jobs are limited, and education is deteriorating. The way in which these people live is truly heartbreaking to see. Madagascar is in major poverty for a number of reasons. One reason the country suffers is because of the past Kleptocratic Rule it endured, which affected its money situation greatly. The previous French Dictator, Didier Ratsiraka, and other workers of the government stole excessive amounts of money from the Aid and Development of Madagascar Fund. This kind of corruption caused friction when the country tried to invest and trade with other countries( Why is Madagascar so Poor? ). A poorly organized government can lead to a poorly organized country, which is another reason why Madagascar suffers. There are only about 5,780 kilometers of paved roads out of the 49,827 kilometers of marked roads the country has. The road conditions, as one can imagine, are dreadful. Cyclones and other types of annual storms are to blame for this. But, to help build and repair roads, the past President, Marc Ravalomanana, helped to repair the damaged infrastructure the country holds. Furthermore, the Madagascar has a very small population of about twenty four million people, meaning that there is not a lot of money being funneled into the government, which can be a leading problem in lack of infrastructure. Lastly, due to the country s shortcomings in the economy, no other country really wants to develop, transport, or sell goods there, which is a problem when it comes to the citizens buying goods. Her sound is very unique and different from many of the artists out there right now. Her new single out at this moment is called A Woman s Worth, and ladies, I recommend you listen to it. Do not let that significant other take advantage of you. It s basically telling all the men out there to treat their woman with respect. She sings lines like You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her first, she will, and she can find a man who knows her worth. At age eleven Equiano and his sister were kidnapped by two men and a woman never to see his home or parents again. After being kidnapped he was hiked across part of Africa untill he arrived at the coast where he was loaded onto a slave ship. While crossing the Atlantic to Barbados onboard the slave ship he and his countrymen were subject to horrors you could hardly imagine. With the many people in such a small place and the humidity, the temperature below decks was unbearable. There was no fresh air, nothing but the nasty stench of the latrines and peoples body odor. The air became unfit to breathe and almost suffocated them. There were children that would fall into the latrines and almost drowned. Many slaves would get sick and die in this terrible place and never make it to Barbados. Shrieks of women and the groans of the dying made the whole scene a nightmare. This caused some slaves to jump off the ship and drown themselves. The first time he was flogged was on the ship when he refused to eat. Two white men tied his feet. One white man held his hands while the other flogged or whipped him. Prisoners were severely cut and flogged for hours for trying to jump off the ship. He had never seen such savage brutal cruelty among people. When the ship reached Barbados the slaves were put into a pin like animals. At the sound of a drum, buyers rushed out to pick out the slaves they wanted to buy. Then no matter if they were friends, husbands, wives, brothers, or sisters they were separated and never to see each other again. Equiano was sold and worked on a plantation in Virginia County, weeding grass and moving stones. The U.S. Social Security Administration Office of Policy states, The original Social Security Act, signed into law on August 14, 1935, grew out of the work of the Committee on Economic Security, a cabinet level group appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt just one year earlier. The Act created several programs that, even today, form the basis for the government s role in providing income security, specifically, the old age insurance, unemployment insurance, and Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) programs. Social Security was modeled to aid the elderly citizens, however during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Social Security System Act was established in the year of 1935 not expecting the baby boomers to be born from the years 1946 through 1964. This is a dilemma because of declining birth rates and increased life expectancy, there are now only three age stratification workers for each beneficiary, and soon there will be only two because the elderly will retire. The system will not be able to support itself with such few workers to pay for so many beneficiaries. Social Security system provides benefits to retired citizens by taxing the work force on payroll checks. The American Association of Retired People announces, Maximum Taxable Earnings, in 2012, workers paid Social Security taxes on income up to $110,100. In 2013, the figure will rise to $113,700, based on an increase in average wages. The AARP shares the maximum taxable earnings from workers has rose since last year. By raising the taxable amount, workers will then be taxed on a higher income. Using 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network COMPUTER NETWORKS RESEARCH PAPER PHASE 1 By, Venkata Kannepalli 2628541 Durga Chetan Kumar 2627862 Susheel Sarab 2660333 ABSTRACT 802.11 wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) becomes most important these days. Whether it would be simple range extender for a home wired Ethernet interface, or as a wireless interface, WLAN provides mobility, ease of access and affordable. Most of the 802.11 wireless network uses the frequency of 2.4GHz, which leads the network to be unsafe and more vulnerable than traditional Ethernet networks. In general, security issues for the Network layer has been discussed rapidly, but where as for MAC layer security mechanisms has not been extensively discussed. Wireless network security has gained attention due to the vulnerabilities exposed in the open communication platform. Most prevalent wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is IEEE 802.11, which considers all the nodes in the network are safe cooperative. However, attackers may make nodes misbehave in order to disrupt network performance, obtain extra bandwidth and consume resources. These MAC layer misbehaviors can be called as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks which can disrupt the network operation. Influencing security flaws in the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol even an average person with basic knowledge on wireless networks can launch MAC layer denial of service (DOS) attacks. In this paper we study two types of MAC layer Denial Of Service attacks that can be easily operated by an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay about The Mirror Neuron and its Role in Action... Although the control of action in humans is fairly well understood, the processes that underlie action understanding from observation are much more unclear. In general, action understanding refers to the ability to recognize the purpose of an action performed by another person (Hickok 2008). Two prominent theories exist to explain this phenomenon. The first posits that action understanding is an inferential process that integrates contextual clues to determine the goal of a movement. In contrast, the second theory asserts that action understanding arises from the simulation of the observed action in the motor areas of the viewer (Brass et al. 2007). While the inferential process theory enjoyed a period of general acceptance, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researchers concluded that this indicated mirror neurons coded not just for action, but the goals of action. Kohler and colleagues (2007) expanded on this idea, showing that some neurons were activated with the mere sound of the result of an intended action (i.e. cracking a peanut). The authors asserted that this indicated that mirror neurons were so tuned to goals that the sound of an action reaching its goal was enough for the macaque to understand the entire action that would have been involved. The results of both studies were said to apply neatly to humans as well. That is, if action understanding is supported by the mirror neuron system of macaques, it is most likely supported by the human mirror neuron system (hMNS). There are two major problems with this view. First, it has been shown that human mirror neurons are much more broadly tuned than monkeys. There is not enough evidence to generalize macaque studies to humans in this way (Hickok 2008). Second, both of these studies fail to acknowledge that the activation of mirror neurons may have been the result, or a byproduct, of understanding rather than the cause. Their activity, then, may only have reflected understanding earlier in processing. If action understanding in humans is predominantly reliant on mirror neurons, then these neurons should respond preferentially to the ends of an action rather than the means; however, this is not the case. Sidney Bechet Impact On Jazz From Bechet to Marsalis: The Evolution of Jazz Jazz: An overview In the 20th century, Jazz was one of the most expressive forms of music around, as it was just starting out and was born in a time where victims of oppression were beginning to stand up and rebel. In comparison to classical music, Jazz is a very new genre of music. It s evolution is vividly evident in it s contrast of instrumentation, dynamics, and the introduction of modal jazz which I will discuss later on in this essay. One of the first jazz virtuoso s that appeared and had a significant influence on jazz, was Sidney Bechet, on clarinet and saxophone. 20th Century New Orleans Sidney Bechet (1897 1959) Born into a middle class family in New Orleans, Louisiana, ... A few of the most popular big bands would ve been led by Chick Webb, Paul Whiteman, Glenn Miller, Ted Lewis and an all female big band named Helen Lewis and her all girl jazz syncopaters . The popularity of these groups was astounding. They were selling out venues everywhere and going on regular tours across America. The Road Movie In Outer Space Analysis In the two essays presented, Genre, Gender, and Hysteria, The Road Movie in Outer Space by Tim Corrigan and Steven Cohan s The Road Movie Book Introduction, concepts of the beginning of the road movie genre, how it related to social and political environments of the time a movie was made, and changes in the style of protagonist are discussed and examined equally but differently. Road films have been part of American films from the beginning of Hollywood movies. Their categories have included action adventure, comedies, crime, dramas, gangster, and westerns films. Road films have also expanded their popularity from the outback of Australia, as we ve seen in Beneath Clouds, Rabbit Proof Fence and The Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. The common theme present is a journey on the open road, searching for an escape of the life they lead, and reaching a goal while following the personal development of the characters during the journey. • 46. Reasons For The Collapse Of The Roman Empire The Roman Empire was at one point the envy of the ancient world. At it s peak in 117 C.E, the empire spanned from western Europe to northern Africa, through the Mediterranean Sea and into western Asia. From about 27 B.C.E. to 476 C.E.. Rome was notorious for holding the name of the world s greatest empire, as Ancient Rome oftentimes furnished civilians with essential necessities such as jobs, food, and spices. Moreover, forms of entertainment including, holding a plenitude of concerts and plays were provided to Roman citizens. However, this era of opulence quickly ceased and conflicts began to emerge through the empire. In turn, by 500 C.E. , the western half of the empire had begun to collapse, as did the eastern part of the empire after another thousand years. The three fundamental elements that justify the collapse of the Roman Empire include the economic and social problems, political instability, as well as the weakening frontiers the civilization had within. One main factor on as to why the Roman empire fell was because of the flood of economic and social problems the civilization faced. The overwhelming majority of people had been excluded from playing an active role in their own government...could not serve in the army (Doc 1). With a large portion of the inhabitants of the Roman Empire not having the ability to be a part of the government and/or not join the army, contention began to spark amongst the public. We can look at class as a subjective location, how do people, individually and collectively, locate themselves and others within a social structure of inequality? Or we could define class as the relational explanation of economic life chance What explains inequalities in economically defined life chances and material standards of living of individuals and families? The challenging nature of class in contemporary society comes from the fact that there has never been an academic consensus the definition of class (due to the fact that class in its very nature is an abstract and subjective term). However, this essay will argue that class is an amalgamation of how individuals and the collective locate themselves, and the relational explanation of economic life chance as well as policy and politics. This is done using Weberian and Marxian definitions of social class and exploring the role of power and power relations in creating a class society.
