Through the process of creating her final magazine product, the author feels she has improved in several key areas from her preliminary task:
1) Her research and planning skills are stronger - she understands what to look for in professional magazines and how to plan her own magazine accordingly.
2) Her technical skills using software like Photoshop have grown - she is more comfortable with the tools and understands layout and design principles better.
3) While the contents page layout remained similar, she enhanced it by adding social media details, based on research of what appeals to target audiences.
Overall her work reflects incorporating research insights, technical skills, and focus on target audiences - showing progression from her earlier preliminary task.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

QUESTION 7
LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL
YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO YOUR FINAL
PRODUCTION?
By Hannah Chyriwsky
2. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
• During the process I would say that my skills in research and planning have improved what has had a positive affect on my
work. One way how my research has improved would be that I know have a better understanding of what I should look for,
this includes images, text and the layout of the magazine. As I was looking at professional magazines it helped the
planning of what sort of images I would use, the reason for this is because depending on what music genre the magazine is
they have different style images which can represent the genre. Then by looking at professional pop music magazines and
there layout, in research tasks, it give me more ideas for my product because I would like my magazine to look professional,
so by doing this I would copy the layout of the magazine for all of the pages.
• Another way how my research and planning has improved would be that I have a better understanding of the forms and
conventions, so because of this tasks like textual analysis, institutional research and inspirational shots I have found it
easier writing about the pictures and the conventions used in a magazine. This is important because if I can describe why
the producers have laid it out in that way or what they have in common with other magazines it would be easier for my to
justify why I did what I did.
• Also through the process my research and planning has probably became more detailed and I have got straight to the
point quicker than at the start. This is because I write a lot about a little so I described and explained everything that I could
even if I couldn't write a lot about it I still tried. So through the process of this course I have started to write a little less and I
have put more focus onto the key conventions, by doing this my time management has got better.
• I would say that my time management has got better as I am writing less than I did to start with and I have prioritized things
for specific times. I decided to start writing less and focus on key areas because I would spend about twice as much time
on a piece of work than is expected. Also by focusing on certain parts I found that I completed work much quicker than I
used to because I stick to my plan.
3. CONSTRUCTION
• My skills in using software and hardware to produce this magazine have improved from the start as I think that
my final product looks much better than my prelim task, this is because I am finding Photoshop much easier to
use than I did at the start and I have also learned the importance of some of the hardware choices.
• My improved skills in Photoshop are probably evident in my work because I have learnt the importance of the
layout and have found it easier using the tools that are made available. By using a variety of different tools like
the paintbrush, level adjustments and boxes it adds to my final product which makes is look nicer and
professional. Unlike on the prelim task I thought more about the framing of my model of when it would be on
my magazine, by doing this it makes room for the sell lines and main sell line, so then the cover won’t look over
crowded. I have also used different camera shots which made a difference when producing the front cover,
this is because on the prelim task I used a long shot, which allowed room for the sell lines, and then I used a
medium close up to make the model more noticeable as they attract the readers. However the similarity is that
both of the models that I used were appropriate for my magazine because they both fit in with the type of
magazine, which meant that my magazine will be appealing to my target audience. As I developed the skill of
using the tools I used the box tool, to put a solid colour behind the sell lines which then meant the text was
clearer to read. So unlike my prelim task I wasn’t just relying on the colours because I put a solid colour block
behind the text. Then because I added on graphics around the sell line about Autumn style it meant the leaves
wouldn’t be as distracting because there is lots of different colour on the page. Also just like the prelim task I
used the same font for the masthead and main sell line, the reason for this is because it is also like this on
professional magazines which I am aiming for. Overall on my front cover I have improved since the prelim task
and this is noticeable because my final product looks more like a professional magazine because I have
copied layouts from music magazines, that I looked at in research and planning, I have used tools on
Photoshop which added more depth to my product and the lighting is right because it hasn’t created any
shadows which could have affected the way my final product looked like.
4. CONSTRUCTION
• For the contents page I would say that not much has changed in terms as they layout because it is very similar
except the picture and content information has been flipped over. So this shows even through the research
and planning I had the same idea for the layout, but by looking at professional magazines the way the content
has be produced has changed. This is because for the subscription box on the prelim task it was just about
how to subscribe to the magazine, but on my final product I added that they could follow the magazine on
social media as this is appealing to the target audience of my music magazine.
• One improvement would be that I added on that you can follow the magazine on social media, by adding this
on it could be appealing to the target audience because they use social media. Also it informs the readers that
they have a social media page, but when i was creating the college magazine students are aware that they
have a Facebook page so I didn’t include this is in my magazine.
• Overall my skills have improved when I was creating my contents page because I added things that would
make it more appealing to look at, like graphics, and i also made a layout that it similar to other professional
magazines.
