Research
A strength of researching is that I can collect different ideas from the existing
products, it inspired me to produce my final work which . Another strength of
this is that from the audience profile from the existing products helped me to
see what is the most common audience in the culinary magazines. This
helped me to decide who my audience would be and how I would make my
product appeal to this specific audience. A weakness of this is that the
information some of the audience profiles are quite limited and didn’t give
me enough details about their audience. This should be the most important
part of researching because it gives a base of who my audience could be and
what could make the magazine interesting for this audience type. In
researching I could improve the audience research which could give me more
details about the audience profile of the existing products.
Planning
• The strengths of planning is that I could start think more about my
product. It was helpful because I started to create the layout of my
magazine, including the content that I wanted to include on the front
cover and double page spread. Another strength I could give more detail
about my product. Whereas, I decided the colour scheme and start
creating my magazine layout which need to include barcode, date of
exibition and cover lines to make the product look like an actual magazine.
A weakness of this is that in the stylesheet I didn’t included images that
could give me more inspiration to create my own product. This is
something that I would improve if I had more time because it would help
me creating my product. I could add different images in different angles,
fonts and also colour schemes.
Time Management
• I managed my time well and I completed my project in time. If I had
additional time I would improve the text boxes in the double page spread
so that it could have more space to add more information about the
recipes. I would also improve the double page spread background adding
some effects that could make the back a bit darker so that the text would
stand out more. On the front cover I would improve some cover lines that
isn’t clear to read, for example the ‘Plus’ cover line. The background make
the text unreadable because it disappear in the background so I could
change the font colour to a different colour so that it could make the
audience draw their attention to read that cover line.
Technical Qualities
A similarity from the existing product to my final product
is that in both the cake is the principal object in the main
image which make the audience easy knowing that is a
culinary magazine. Another similarity in this is the cover
lines, the texts are around the cake in the photography
empty space. The company logo in the top of the
magazine helps the audience to
know which company is the
magazine from. On both
magazine covers have the
barcode and the date. The
differences between both
magazine covers are the colour
scheme and also the fonts. In my
product I used dark colours,
whereas in the existing product
they used pastel colours in the
background.
Technical Qualities
In both double pages they are giving
different recipes. The background are quite
simple, making the food stand out in front
to catch the audience’s attention to read
and learn how to cook the foods. Another
similarity is that in both articles the recipes
are detailed. The way that the photography
were taken are different because in my
product has a border around the image,
which creates a sense that the images are
in the top of the background. Whereas, in
the existing product the photographer
positioned the plates and took the pictures.
Another difference is the background
colours, the existing product the colour is
bright and in my product I chose dark
colour to make the double page spread
match with the front cover.
Aesthetic Qualities
I enjoyed creating this magazine cover because
I could improve my skills using different
methods and experiment different types of
magazines. I liked the most the photography
that I took and how the cake is focused in the
image. This helped the cover lines appear
more using white in the black background. I
also liked the font that I chose to use in the
cover line ‘3 Brazilian Desserts’. By having a
different font make the difference between
the fonts which make the cover interesting to
read and appealing for the audience
persuading them to buy the product. I would
improve the bottom cover line, I would change
the colour of the text to make it clear to read. I
think the background has made the font a bit
difficult to read because have white on it. A
strength of this cover is that the texts are clear
to read; just need some improvements in the
bottom so that it could be better to read.
Aesthetic Qualities
Creating this double page spread
was my favourite part because it
was the first time that I used dark
colours in the background. I liked
the font that I used in the article
title which is the same font that is
in the front cover. I think using the
same colours and fonts make the
magazine organized and
interesting to read. I think this is
looking good but I would improve
the background levels to make it a
bit darker which would make the text readable. I would also add more text in the
empty space that I left in the bottom in the last recipe. In there I could give a brief
explanation about the Brazilian Desserts, for example, why they are famous in there or
a short introduction. The strengths of this double page spread is that it was simple and
quite straight forward, it gives all the information that the audience might need to
cook those recipes.
Audience Appeal
Researching existing
product helped me to
have an idea of who
my target audience
would be. Based on
the research I could
make my product
appealing for this
specific audience
which is adults
between the age 18 to
44. The audience might be interested in buying or reading this magazine because of the
content that is inside the magazine. I think the audience might also be interested because of
the cake on the front cover. The empty background contrasts the cake, making the magazine
interesting for the audience. Also, the attractive colours of the cake matches with the
background making the text readable. I have appealed to my audience giving different recipes
for the audience which will appeal all that might be interested in learn how to cook Brazilian
tradional desserts.

This is something that I would improve if I had more time because it would help me creating my product. I could add different images in different angles, fonts and also colour schemes.
  • 4. Time Management • I managed my time well and I completed my project in time. If I had additional time I would improve the text boxes in the double page spread so that it could have more space to add more information about the recipes. I would also improve the double page spread background adding some effects that could make the back a bit darker so that the text would stand out more. On the front cover I would improve some cover lines that isn’t clear to read, for example the ‘Plus’ cover line. The background make the text unreadable because it disappear in the background so I could change the font colour to a different colour so that it could make the audience draw their attention to read that cover line.
  • 5. Technical Qualities A similarity from the existing product to my final product is that in both the cake is the principal object in the main image which make the audience easy knowing that is a culinary magazine. Another similarity in this is the cover lines, the texts are around the cake in the photography empty space. The company logo in the top of the magazine helps the audience to know which company is the magazine from. On both magazine covers have the barcode and the date. The differences between both magazine covers are the colour scheme and also the fonts. In my product I used dark colours, whereas in the existing product they used pastel colours in the background.
  • 6. Technical Qualities In both double pages they are giving different recipes. The background are quite simple, making the food stand out in front to catch the audience’s attention to read and learn how to cook the foods. Another similarity is that in both articles the recipes are detailed. The way that the photography were taken are different because in my product has a border around the image, which creates a sense that the images are in the top of the background. Whereas, in the existing product the photographer positioned the plates and took the pictures. Another difference is the background colours, the existing product the colour is bright and in my product I chose dark colour to make the double page spread match with the front cover.
  • 7. Aesthetic Qualities I enjoyed creating this magazine cover because I could improve my skills using different methods and experiment different types of magazines. I liked the most the photography that I took and how the cake is focused in the image. This helped the cover lines appear more using white in the black background. I also liked the font that I chose to use in the cover line ‘3 Brazilian Desserts’. By having a different font make the difference between the fonts which make the cover interesting to read and appealing for the audience persuading them to buy the product. I would improve the bottom cover line, I would change the colour of the text to make it clear to read. I think the background has made the font a bit difficult to read because have white on it. A strength of this cover is that the texts are clear to read; just need some improvements in the bottom so that it could be better to read.
  • 8. Aesthetic Qualities Creating this double page spread was my favourite part because it was the first time that I used dark colours in the background. I liked the font that I used in the article title which is the same font that is in the front cover. I think using the same colours and fonts make the magazine organized and interesting to read. I think this is looking good but I would improve the background levels to make it a bit darker which would make the text readable. I would also add more text in the empty space that I left in the bottom in the last recipe. In there I could give a brief explanation about the Brazilian Desserts, for example, why they are famous in there or a short introduction. The strengths of this double page spread is that it was simple and quite straight forward, it gives all the information that the audience might need to cook those recipes.
  • 9. Audience Appeal Researching existing product helped me to have an idea of who my target audience would be. Based on the research I could make my product appealing for this specific audience which is adults between the age 18 to 44. The audience might be interested in buying or reading this magazine because of the content that is inside the magazine. I think the audience might also be interested because of the cake on the front cover. The empty background contrasts the cake, making the magazine interesting for the audience. Also, the attractive colours of the cake matches with the background making the text readable. I have appealed to my audience giving different recipes for the audience which will appeal all that might be interested in learn how to cook Brazilian tradional desserts.
