Ginsberg And The Beat Generation
The Beat Generation was gleaned from the way we heard the world beat spoken on street corners on
Times Square and in other cities in the downtown city night of postwar America beat, meaning down
and out but full of conviction (qtd. in Beat) according to Jack Kerouac, a past American Beats
novelist. Kerouac expresses the aroma of melancholia that followed the end of World War II. In came
a sense of fear for the technological innovation made towards nuclear warfare. Because of this, the
years following became a time of conformity and artistic suppression. Poets like Allen Ginsberg
emerged from the shadows and started to shed a new light on the meaning of life and a free mind. This
post War fear created an individualist atmosphere that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allen Ginsberg, one of the most innovative poets of the age, characterized his poetry as the desire to
be [...] in a time of apathy (Tytell, 313). Howl, Ginsberg s most esteemed piece of work, surprised the
majority of readers due to its vulgarity and explicit content. The urban settings across the United
States greatly influence beatniks in writing about the environment of post World War II. This new
mindset of free spirit allowed Ginsberg to explore new, but vulnerable subjects that may cause one to
cringe. The literary experience present in Howl allow[ed] an individual to discover his own
vulnerability, his humanness, without cowering (Tytell, 313). This was an important theme that
encourage artistic development in the midst of conformity and bleakness. In the first line of his poem,
he mentions how he saw the best minds of [his] generation destroyed by [the] madness (ln 1) of
materialism and pressure of technological advancement. The free spirited lifestyle that hipsters
promoted distracted many authors and writers into getting hooked on drugs, sex and alcohol, which
are main topics Ginsberg discusses throughout the poem. Through his writings, Ginsberg strives to
exorcise the shame, guilt and far that he [saw] as barriers to self realization and total being (Tytell
312), placing great emphasis on individuality. Poets like Ginsberg were responsible for the revival of
creative potency in an age of silence. For example, Howls presents a range of tones ranging from
severe anguish to uncontainable excitement. This literary aspect of his poems provided a way for
readers to retain the ability to feel in numbing times [...] in the face of materialistic culture (Tytell
313). The bizarre breed of hipsters and the Beatnik writers who found literary ways of bringing their
dull societies back to life were ready to cure, what Ginsberg saw

Artificial Intelligence Advantages
Artificial Intelligence: 1 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence 1.1 Artificial Intelligence (AI):
Artificial Intelligence, abbreviated as AI, is defined as the intelligence exhibited or shown by the
machines. AI is the ability of a machine to mimic intelligent human actions. In other words, artificial
intelligence refers to the study of intelligent agents . 1.1.1. Artificially Intelligent agents: Artificially
Intelligent agents are the machines that recognize and understand their environment and respond
accordingly. The term artificial intelligence is applied to refer to the machines or systems that carry

It has disadvantages as well. One major disadvantage is the cost incurred in its maintenance and
repair.Programs need to be updated to suit the changing requirements and machines need to be made
smarter. In case of a breakdown, the cost may be very high. If the control of machines goes in wrong
hands it may cause destruction. As machines cannot think, they can be usedto do the wrong things or
for mass destruction. The intuitive abilities that human possess, the way humans can judge based on
their previous knowledge, the inherent abilities that they have, cannot be replicated by machines. Also,
machines lack common sense. If robots begin to replace humans in every field, it will eventually lead
to unemployment. People will be left to do nothing. So much empty time may result in destructive
use. Machines may not be as efficient as humans in altering their responses depending on the changing
situations as they are programmed to function in a usual manner. With the heavy application of AI,
humans may become overly dependent on machines, losing their mental

What Is Ancient Greecenaean Culture
Ancient Greece
Greece is an important ancient civilization that is still alive today. Greece is an amazing country with
amazing culture . Greece has a rich and interesting history.
At various times in its history Greece included all of Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace, part of Asia
Minor, and Magna Graecia. Archaeological remains show that Greece had a long prehistory, dating
from the Neolithic Age (c.4000 B.C.). By the Bronze Age (c.2800 B.C.) important cultures had
developed. The Aegean civilization had several phases, two of the most important being the Minoan
civilization and the Mycenaean civilization. These cultures had disappeared by 1100 B.C. The Greek
speaking Achaeans migrated into the Peloponnesus during the 14th and 13th cent. B.C. The Aeolians
and the Ionians apparently preceded the Dorians, who migrated into Greece before 1000 B.C. The
Ionians, moving forth, possibly as refugees, possibly as conquerors, settled in the Ionian Islands and
on the shores of Asia Minor, which became a part of the Greek world. ... Show more content on

Homeric Greece (named for the great epic poet Homer) was dependent on the agriculture of relatively
unproductive fields but was already open to the sea. Although the Greeks never rivaled the
Phoenicians or the later Carthaginians and Romans as mariners, the sea offered them an opportunity
for expansion and commerce. In the 8th, 7th, and 6th cent. B.C., the Greeks established colonies,
many of which became separate city states, from the Black Sea and the Bosporus (where Byzantium
was founded) to Sicily, S Italy (Magna Graecia), Mediterranean France, the northern shores of Africa,
and Spain. These colonies had a great influence on the history of the Greek mainland, where the city

one of the best coffee houses on the college scene. Friend Z s success has sparked the interest of its

Roman Catholic Cultural Factors
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese have a religious requirement that the priests must remain celibate.
This is one cultural factor for the Catholic community, that some believe has contributed to sexual
offenses. Another cultural factor is that some men consider having sex with an older, attractive, adult
women as getting lucky. Although, legally sex with a person who is under the age of consent is called
statutory rape. However, women are less likely to believe the idea that a young boy is lucky because
he had sex with an older women. It has also been a social attitude that in a marriage, rape cannot
happen. In the past, the husband would not have been convicted of rape even if he forced or threatened
his wife into sexual activity (Rathus). Another

No Laws In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine if someone you loved was shot. You call the cops, but they say that there is nothing that can
be done because there are no laws saying they have to punish the criminal. If there were no laws,
criminal could get away with crimes like that repeatedly without any punishment. This is a prime
example of why laws are needed to keep society in order. The idea of rules in society has been around
since King Hammurabi created the first set of laws in 1760 B.C. Egyptian civilizations created laws so
that their society would last longer than other civilizations because people would respect their morals.
William Golding, the author of Lord of the Flies, made a statement about human nature, saying that,

Without laws, people will act out and society will turn into chaos just like it did towards the end of
Lord of the Flies. As people grow older in society, they get separated into groups based on age (baby,
child, teenager, adult, senior). This helps the society be more controlled and organized. In the
beginning of Lord of the Flies, the author named the children littluns , which was a sign that
civilization was not lost and the children had not been on the island for too long. As the author nears
the end of the book, he begins to call them all savages. On page 192, as things were getting crazy and
the fire begins to start, the narrator says, The savage, whoever he was, ululated twice; and the cry was
repeated in both directions, then died away (192). At the beginning of the book, all the children had
names; but now, they are all called savages because you cannot tell them apart. Everyone was called
savages except Ralph and Roger; Ralph represents

Essay about Marilyn Monroe
Hollywood is a very powerful modern day institution, where a star s image can characterize, shape
and circulate societal myths and ideologies. The construction of a star s image as a commodity of their
societal myths and ideologies has the extraordinary power to exert messages so that even the smallest
details become significant yet not overtly obvious. How a star s image is produced and then consumed
can justify a society s relationship with that image and therefore aid in explaining the social
construction of what society deems as their reality . A star s image is created through a range of
representations churned out by Hollywood. Capitalism from the commercialization of these images

Media industries were controlled by males; therefore Marilyn Monroe s image served the interests of
men by legitimizing their power. This creates a marketable image aimed at a well defined audience
that is male. Classing Marilyn Monroe as merely Entertainment for Men contributes to behavioral
ideologies in society for women to act as objects for male desires. The myths drawn from such slogans
creates for females a sense of inferiority, where in Monroe s case, her body and sexual allure were her
only resources. The ideologies circulating in society naturalized Monroe s image as being the cultural
norm and something which women should aspire to be for the benefit of males.
Marilyn Monroe established her temptress image through multiples of publicity shots. An important
element contributing to this image, which is clearly displayed in this magazine cover, is her facial
expression. Marilyn Monroe established a universally familiar expression, her face raised, mouth open
and bared teeth, which became vital to her image. These peculiarities of her facial expression are
signifiers which help to create her marketable and sexual image. The open mouth and bared teeth
become overt signs of sexual allure, playfulness and seductiveness. This contributes to the beliefs that
females have to appear as a sexual object to remain a marketable image in society. Marilyn looking

5.1 Basic Energy Saving Tips LOWER THE SET POINT ON YOUR THERMOSTAT IN WINTER
Reducing your set point by 1˚ for an entire winter can yield a 3% savings in energy used to heat your
home. If you keep your thermostat at 68˚, try to turn it down to 67˚ for a week and see if that s okay. If
so, try 66˚ and keep going down until you get to a point where you are no longer comfortable. Then go
back up 1˚ and hold it there.
USE WINDOW TREATMENTS TO CONTROL SOLAR HEAT GAINS IN SUMMER WINTER

it can be extremely beneficial to leave the blinds and curtains open on East, South, and West facing
windows to let the sun provide free heat. On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

OPERATING FANS
The best thing to remember with fans is that they cool people, they do not cool rooms. The air
movement that fans create pulls heat and moisture off of us and gives us a cooling sensation. They do
not decrease room temperatures.
So please be sure to leave fans off when not in the room. In most cases, it is also not recommended to
leave the fan running on your furnace or air conditioner.
LOWER THE SET POINT ON YOUR WATER HEATER
If you never run out of hot water, you can probably turn the set point of your water heater down. The
turn dials are typically located under the top and bottom faceplates. Use a screwdriver to remove the
faceplate and turn it down 5 10˚. We do not recommend setting your temperature below 120˚F due to
bacterial growth. Also, have the scale removed from your water heater every couple of years.
2.2 Water Efficiency Tips Water use is becoming an increasingly important issue. Energy is used to
extract the water from the ground, treat it, pump it to your home, and heat it in your hot water tank.
Energy is also consumed to pump, treat and discharge the water once it leaves your home. The
efficient use of water in your home reduces the power consumed by our community. From significant
appliances to little things like showerheads, there

Flippo Brunelleschi s Influence On Renaissance Architecture

Architects were inspired by Ancient Rome and Greek architecture, to create beautiful buildings.
Filippo Brunelleschi was influenced and applied his idea s to building one of his most famous

aspects on Renaissance art, and Roman architecture. Andrea Palladio was also influenced by the

Alberti was not only an amazing architect, he was also very talented in creating Renaissance art
(specifically painting), poetry, and sculpturing, which was a very coincidental, and worked well
together all around. His life span was from February 14, 1404 April 25, 1472. As a designer and a
student of Vitruvius and of ancient Roman remains, he grasped the nature of column and lintel
architecture, from the visual rather than structural viewpoint. Some of his other major
accomplishments through his years was through the influence on ancient rome architecture, he
designed many buildings such as the The Tempio Malatestiano (aka, the Church of San Francesco).
Alberti also designed the New Facade of Santa Maria Novella, Florence in 1456. In his architecture,
he had the intention of using their symbolic content and associations to ennoble a modern building and
give it the sense of having a Renaissance culture feel to almost all of the buildings he would construct.
As one once said about Alberti s work, The result of the distinction is a new emphasis on building
mass totally unlike, even alien to Brunelleschi s architecture at San Lorenzo that so carefully
emphasized plane, space, and line. It is, however, related to the new interest in the quality and majesty
of mass and the sculptural treatment of space at Santo Spirito. So yes,

Lewis Carroll And Charles Lutwidge Dodgson
British Literature is the birthplace of many well known authors we know to this day, Charles Dickens
and Jane Austin are just the start to the long list of these extravagant authors. However, none of these
quite resemble Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who is better known as Lewis Carroll. Carroll s life, the
people he meets and his work Alice in the Wonderland enables him to be one of the most renowned
authors in all of history. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was born in the village of Daresbury, England, on
January 27, 1832, ( Lewis Carroll ). Carroll divided himself up into two names, Lewis Carroll and the
Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. He frequently insisted on the division because he detested
lionization as the children s author while carrying on his very regular ,donnish life (Blake 45). He
sometimes refused to receive fan mail addressed to Lewis Carroll at Christ Church. In one letter to a
child friend he gives an amusing account of the meeting of his two selves (Blake 45). In 1856 he
coined the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It was done, in typical Carrollian fashion, by translating his first
and middle names into Latin, reversing their order, then translating them back into English (Mike).
Carroll was a man that had to overcome many unpleasant factors in his life like suffering from chronic
migraines, and epilepsy, stammering, partial deafness, and ADHD (Gilmore). Lewis Carroll was the
eldest son in a clergyman s family of eleven children living in less than affluent

The Cost Of Social Norms
To summarize the articles; What isn t for sale? by Michael J. Sandel, and The Cost of Social Norms by
Dan Ariely, in the articles both authors discuss the relationship between markets and society, and how
they are intertwined even though they shouldn t which is partially caused by market values entering
society and affecting the regular norms of society causing money to be the first thing on everybody s
mind. The article What isn t for sale? By Michael J. Sandel talks about how society is broken because
markets have reached into places they don t necessarily belong and influencing people s values by
supplanting nonmarket norms with market values. They do so by placing prices on things that
normally aren t considered to be goods or services and couldn t even be marketed, some examples
given in the article are how people can pay an annual fee ranging from $1,500 to $25,000, to gain

Starbucks And Its Impact On The World Coffee Industry Essay
Millions of people all over the world will take time out of their day to walk into a Starbucks for a cup
of Joe . Coffee is the most popular leading beverage that is enjoyed throughout the world and in so
many different forms. You can get coffee just about anywhere, but there is a reason why people choose
Starbucks coffee. Starbucks is known for their friendly, positive environment with staff that is truly
accommodating and welcoming. People buy Starbucks for what it represents and the status image that
comes along with it. Starbucks has an excellent business structure due to its national and global
success. Starbucks stands strong in the world coffee industry and still is financially succeeding even in
hard economic times with coffee that may seem overpriced to many.
The coffee industry is continually growing regardless of the increase cost of coffee since January
2009. The price has been rising not because of the price of coffee itself, but because of the supply
chain and the current economic situation around the world. In 2012, Starbucks had to raise their prices
globally, but especially in the United States and China, due to rising prices of coffee and other
ingredients they use to make their signature drinks. Although prices were raised globally due to high
demand of the product and the cost of producing it, there is still a strong demand for Starbucks
because of their large consumer base. Starbucks main competitors are McDonald s and Dunkin

Analysis of the Mad Men opening Title Sequence Essay
Analysis of Mad Men Title Sequence
University of Minnesota
Abstract This analysis will cover the middle scene in the Mad Men opening title sequence. This will
be addressing the principles and elements of design and their impact on the viewing experience of this
segment of title sequence. This scene is an illustration of a man free falling from a skyscraper, down
the side of a building. Further detail will be addressed later. Three elements of design will be
discussed: line, color, and shape. All are designed to show continuity and free flowing movement
through change. The principles balance, harmony, and rhythm of design will be discussed through the

Red is a color that evokes emotion and draws the eye, so in its sporadic occurrences, one s eyes are
drawn to the text in the ad and more importantly to the name of the guest star. The second design
element is line. Line is used in this scene to break apart the buildings and windows within, and really
focus the geometric shapes. Although the lines are soft and light in weight, aside from the outer most
lines of the buildings, which are hard but still thin, they are uniform in their clear representation of the
shape of the buildings and the windows. These lines depict a vertical and horizontal relationship from
the dimensions of the building and windows. From the angle of the scene in discussion, the horizontal
lines appear diagonal converging on each other at the corners of the buildings and windows. These
converging lines at the top of the buildings demonstrate a focal point brought upon by the location of
emphasis (Hemmis 2013). The lines of the building are enclosed to the achromatic background to
separate them from the background and divide the pictorial space. The only lines that are curved in
this scene appear in the ads and the form of the free falling man. The final element is shape. The
shapes in this scene are primarily geometric. The windows and the buildings are created by the soft yet
defined lines seen throughout the scene. Linear shapes are made by the convergence

Comparing the Modern Organizational Theory and...
Organization theory deals with the formal structure, internal working, and external environment of
complex human behavior within organizations. As a field spanning several disciplines, it prescribes
how work and workers out to be organized and attempts to explain the actual consequences of
organizational behavior (including individual behavior) on work done and on the organization itself.
(Gordon and Milkavoich, 147) It has been evolving for centuries on how should work be done in the
public administration and how the organization should be. Research findings have emerged about
what motivates workers and how different incentives affect various tasks, employees, and situations;
and the environments in which they operate. (Gordon and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Improvisation is made inevitable in a situation where problems must be dealt with expediently and on
the spur of the moment. Taking into consideration the conflict between the Arabs and the Israelis,
improvisation is essential to running administrations. The formal theory such of Max Weber cannot
apply since its framework of rules and procedures are to ensure stability, predictability, and reliability
of performance; yet, with no stability or predictability in the environment these theories only fall short
of their expectations. Rational panning has already been pointed out a century ago by Herbert Simon
(1976) to be bounded by many factors such as: skills, habits, and reflexes, values, etc, which makes it
impossible to achieve rational planning that is suited for the situation #8230;Moreover, rational
planning does not have primary value in Israel s cultural heritage. Survival in the Diaspora often
depended on an ability to act quickly, with limited resources, under harsh, changing, and uncertain
conditions. (Sharkansky and Zalmanovitch, 2) With endless terrorism, continuous war, and a
population growth that shifts from month to month there is the perpetual challenge to respond to each
situation expediently and ingeniously. Even with the scientific management organizational theory, the
formal structure and rules, the highly centralized top management levels, and especially the
standardizing procedures would make policy making

Effectiveness Of A Competitive Market Environment
From the past until present, in order to achieve competitive advantage to compete in turbulence and
highly competitive market environment, the one who take control over the organisation should design
powerful strategies. To create that strategies, managers need both good understanding in internal and
external environment, and effective managerial skill to organise sophisticate works arising in
organisational routine systematically. The one who assigned as manager has power to control over
company resources which included human being. Human can be considered as one of the most
valuable resources in the company because value can be added to them through education and
experience. However, human could be considered as the most complicate resource. This is because
they have personal needs, ambition, and feeling which are different between one to others. Unlike
machines or other type of assets that similarly designed to do specific jobs, stereotype should not be
applied to workers and there is no one best way to manage or to control them. In particular, it can be
said that one size does not fit all. As the result, this issue could be considered as one of the most wildly
discussed topics among managerial scholars. The idea of how to manage and control over human
being in the work place start in the period of industrial revolution where the factory trying to
maximise their profits through the concept of economy of scale. Human as the resources to produce

Fairness Doctrine Pros And Cons
Kayla Mallari
Professor Hogen Esch
Pols 155 The Fairness Doctrine was a policy established by the Federal Communications
Commission, that states those with broadcast license such as radio stations and television programs
must present controversial public issues in way that is honest, balanced, and fair within the time of
their program. The policy was passed by Congress in 1949, its main concern was that diverse views
and controversial issues that regard the public be available for society to be aware of. This also
entitled political programs to present opposing sides of an issue. Broadcasters had obligation to show
the public the spectrum of an argument. Furthermore the doctrine also includes that the broadcasters

Ralph Nader an American politic activist explains that without the Fairness Doctrine public issues,

not have not been apparent to society. Many have considered the reinstatement of the Fairness
Doctrine, in 2005 by U.S Representative Louise Slaughter, in 2007 by Senator Richard Durbin, then
again in 2008. In my opinion I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated but also reevaluated
and revived so that it fits are society today. The doctrine should include factors that still protect the
first amendment but enables the public to be knowledgeable of issues, in which they can form their
own opinions on. News and other media today is very bias and provides entertainment rather than
knowledge of current news that impact our lives. I believe the public needs to be fully aware of issue

Strategic Action Disney On Consumer Focused Initiative
Which strategic action disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? Walt Disney is a well
known brand known all over the world. It launched a theme park, Disneyland, in Hong Kong in 2005
which was the smallest of the five already existing disneylands in different parts of the world. It was
started mainly to cater the Hong Kong people as the chinese market is rapidly growing and it was a
good and profitable move to open up disneyland in Hong Kong. The strategy which Disney adopted is
highly diversify. The company diversified its brand into different businesses like theme parks,
television networks, hotels, books and toys for children, animated and motion films etc. Soon it
erupted as a big and well known brand in the entertainment industry. The company s strategy is to
produce qualitative goods and services and engaging modern technology with their services and
expand their brand globally. In 1993 disney opened a theme park in Japan which was very successful.
After its huge success the next one was at Paris in 1992. Disney was an American brand and entering
into non american markets was not easy for them because of many cultural differences. They wanted
to enter european market but for entering non american european markets the management understood
the fact that they need to understand the cultural differences first. To cater the european french market,

Throughout life there will be times when someone would feel betrayed that would cause them to seek
for revenge. That way they would feel they are taking matters in their own hands, and giving them a

it ends up causing them and whoever relates to the problem, pain. In Wuthering Heights by Emily
Bronte, the protagonist, Heathcliff was abused throughout his life and was betrayed by his love. That
is what caused him to seek revenge to whoever had done him wrong. He thought there he would get

From the viewpoint of project management, the terms owner and sponsor are synonymous because
both have the ultimate authority to make all important decisions. Since an owner is essentially
acquiring a facility on a promise in some form of agreement, it will be wise for any owner to have a
clear understanding of the acquisition process in order to maintain firm control of the quality,
timeliness and cost of the completed facility.
From the perspective of an owner, the project life cycle for a constructed facility may be illustrated
schematically in Figure 1 1. Essentially, a project is conceived to meet market demands or needs in a
timely fashion. Various possibilities may be considered in the conceptual planning stage, and the
technological and economic feasibility of each alternative will be assessed and compared in order to
select the best possible project. The financing schemes for the proposed alternatives must also be
examined, and the project will be programmed with respect to the timing for its completion and for
available cash flows. After the scope of the project is clearly defined, detailed engineering design will
provide the blueprint for construction, and the definitive cost estimate will serve as the baseline for
cost control. In the procurement and construction stage, the

Similarities Between The Abbasid And The Umayyad
The Umayyads were a family that took over after the death of Ali, they ruled the Islamic Empire
helping spread the faith through conquering. The Abbasids were the next family that took over after
the fall of the Umayyads. The Abbasids had many achievements, and helped expand the empire
further. The Umayyads and the Abbasids both ruled the same areas, and they both conquered more
area to spread their religion. Although they share features they also are different in their government,
and the treatment of the social classes. Some similarities between the Umayyads and the Abbasids are
their government, where they rule from, and how they treat the people they conquer. For example both
the Umayyads and the Abbasids left the monotheistic religions such as the Christians and the
Buddhists to their faith. They let them keep their faith, culture and follow their own laws. Also both
empires initiated the jizya, a tax, for all monotheistic non Muslims. Religions like the Christians paid
the tax so they did not have to convert, and the Muslims collected the money for their own use. People
of other religions like, religions of pagan gods, were forced to convert. Another similarity is where the
empires ruled from. During the Umayyad empire, their capital was Damascus, on the coast of Persia.
While during the Abbasid period, it was moved to Baghdad, also in Persia. Both empires capitals were
centered in Persia, which eventually influenced their culture and traditions. Their last

Australian Government Intervention
Australia s government has helped to intervene within the market when issues have arisen. The more
efficient allocation of resources and income is an initiative designed to assist the society.
Unfortunately, it can also cause costs to the community and market which can be seen from side
effects of their policies. The tight and loose monetary policies that are used can cause unemployment
and inflation which are both a cost for the economy. The government also imposes tariffs which
causes unfairness for consumers.
One benefit of government intervention in Australia is the more efficient allocation of resources in the

The tight monetary policy is used by the government to reduce the level of economic activity. They do
this by creating upward pressure on interest rates and reducing the money supply. The high interest
rates would reduce the demand of money therefore dampening consumer and investor spending. The
drop in aggregate demand would reduce inflation but causes an increased rate of unemployment which
is a cost to society. On the other hand, a loose monetary policy is the complete opposite where the
government is trying to increase the level of economic supply. This increases inflation for the
economy. These two policies are used alternatively to try stabilise the business cycle but they have a

Marriage Is The Sacrament Of The Church
Marriage is one of the sacraments of the Church. The Catechism of the Catholic Church points out
that Christian marriage becomes an efficacious sign, the sacrament of the covenant of Christ and the
Church. An efficacious sign not only symbolizes or signifies something, but makes present what it
signifies. Marriage signifies and makes present the love of Christ to the baptized spouses; a love by
which Christ formed the Church as his spouse.
The image of the relationship between bridegroom and bride used to explain the relationship between
Christ and the Church in the scriptures are appealing to a natural human relationship. The Scripture
however shows that Christ s love for the Church surpasses natural human love. Christ s love for the
Church is a love of complete self giving expressed in his death on the Cross. In this same vain,
Christian marriage too aspires not only for natural human love, but also to Christ s love for the
Church:

In addition, for marriages that are celebrated within the Latin Catholic Church, canonical form
requires, among other things, that an authorized bishop, priest, or deacon ask for and receive the
spouses consent as the Church s official witness of the marriage celebration. For marriages of
members of the Eastern Catholic Churches, the assistance and blessing of an authorized bishop or
priest is required. The Holy Spirit binds the spouses together through their exchange of promises in a
bond of love and fidelity unto death. Their marriage covenant becomes a participation in the
unbreakable covenant between Christ the Bridegroom and his Bride, the Church. The same love that
defines the Church now defines the communion between the two spouses: authentic married love is

Self Government In Canada
Self government is the cornerstone of the Inuit policy goals in the Nunavut region; while self
government is an important goal, the idea is intricately linked to other goals such as land claims
settlements, cultural preservation, and economic development, goals which the people of Nunavut are
finding very hard to meet (Nowland Card, 41). Indigenous people were self governed long before
Europeans arrived in Canada, but in 1876, the Indian Act came into effect, dismantling traditional
governance systems and Indigenous peoples lives (Bc Treaty Commission). Today, the Federal
government recognizes that Indigenous people have an inherent, constitutionally protected right to self

But the model of self government offered by the Canadian government leaves the people of Nunavut
financially at the mercy of the Government and thus is impractical and doomed to fail. The
Government still owns a huge amount of the land and makes the final decisions on important issues.
There is still no sovereignty for Indigenous people as their lives are still partly dictated by the Federal
Government. Their lack of any revenue source leads to heavy reliance on the Federal Government
making this method highly unsustainable. Thus, the Indigenous people surrendered their rights for a
failed cause, but one that could potentially see a revival. With the recent devolution plans in Canada
between the Federal Government, the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated,
the company in charge of setting out the process of the transfer of land from the Crown to the Nunavut
Government, there is hope for the revival of Nunavut (Devolution Nunavut). Devolution is important
because it brings decision making closer to home, giving Nunavut a greater say in issues that affect

The Introduction of the Electric Guitar
According to the Smithsonian Institute, electronic amplification is one of the most successful
innovations brought around at the end of the 1930s. The 1920s had a rise in the popularity of dance
music, and the recording industry was getting started. This was also the start of the Big Band Era
(guitaristsource.com). Guitar makers started experimenting to develop a new, louder, guitar. Electrical
amplification was developed by the radio industry in the 1920s (howstuffworks.com). In 1931, George
Beauchamp and Adolf Rickenbacker would go on to develop an electromagnetic pickup they would
later use to create the electric guitar. This first model would go on to be called the Frying Pan ,
because of its resemblance to the cookware. This first model was often played flat on the lap
(howstuffworks.com). Eventually, electric guitars began commercial production in the 1930s
(Goertzen 435). In 1939, Les Paul, an acoustic guitarist, developed a new type of electric guitar by
placing the old pickup on a solid block of wood. This new solid body guitar didn t have the feedback
problems that the hollow bodied electric guitars had. Also, it had a greater sustain than earlier models
(howstuffworks.com). In order for an electric guitar to work, it needs a pickup and an amplifier.
Pickups are electro magnetic pieces on the guitar s body, and they are usually found on the guitar s
body in between the bridge and the fretboard. These electro magnets create magnetic fields, which

Takng a Look at Robert E. Lee
Robert Edward Lee was born January 19, 1807 at Stratford in Westmoreland County. Continuing in
the military tradition of his father, in 1825 Lee entered West Point and graduated second in his class in
1829, without getting single demerit in his four years there. Serving several military positions in
Georgia, Virginia, New York, Texas, and Mexico. Over the next 23 years, his reputation as a strong
military leader increased in recognition and respectability, and in 1852 he was named superintendent
of West Point. From February of 1860 until February of 1861, for one whole year,, Lee commanded
the Department of Texas the largest number of troops he had ever commanded. Lee had to evaluate his
position as a Whig devoted to the Union and as a Virginian. At this point, he did not agree with the
political and economic arguments for Southern independence. Though, unfortunate as the choice was,
if pressed to choose between fighting for Virginia or for the Union, Lee realized the decision would be
simple. Lee s loyalties proved to be on the side of the South because of his family tradition in and
association with the state of Virginia.
Lee was born on a Stratford Hall Plantation in Virginia. The fifth child of Henry Light Horse Harry

The colonists of the Chesapeake Bay region, on the other hand, led harder lives compared to that of
the colonists of New England. The Chesapeake Bay had an unhealthy environment, bad eating diets,

The colonists had different reasons for settling in these two distinct regions. The New England region
was a more religiously strict yet diverse area compared to that of the Chesapeake Bay. The
development of religion in the two regions came from separate roots. After Henry VIII and the Roman
Catholic Church broke away from each other, a new group of English reformers was created called the
Puritans. The Puritans came from protestant backgrounds, after being influenced by Calvinistic ideas.
When their reforms were thwarted by King James I of England, they fled to the New World in what is
now known as the Great Migration . The Puritans were then joined by Quakers, Protestants, and
Catholics in the religiously diverse New England area. These diverse religious factions were allowed
to live freely but under the laws of New England. It was due to this religious freedom that these
people came to escape religious persecution back home. The New Englanders had a religion based
society and religion was based on family. As the Bible highly regarded family, it condemned adultery.

The Marketing Plan Of Ebay Essay
eBay was founded in Pierre Omidyar s San Jose living room back in September 1995. It was from the
start meant to be a marketplace for the sale of goods and services for individuals.
In 1998, Pierre and his cofounder Jeff Skoll brought in Meg Whitman to sustain the success.
Meg had studied at the Harvard Business School and had learned the importance of branding at
companies such as Hasbro.
Meg culled her senior staff from companies such as PepsiCo. and Disney, created an experienced
management team with an average of 20 years of business experience and built a strong vision for the
company that eBay is a company that s in the business of connecting people, not selling them things.
They quickly shed the image of only auctioning collectibles and moved into an array of upscale
markets where the average sale price (ASP) is higher. ASP is a key metric in determining eBay s
transaction fees, so increasing the ASP became an important item. By forging partnerships with name
brands such as GM, Disney and Sun, eBay has managed to do exactly that. In addition to its auction
style sales, the website has since expanded to include Buy It Now shopping; shopping by UPC , ISBN
, or other kind of SKU ,online classified advertisements (via Kijiji or eBay Classifieds); online event
ticket trading (via StubHub ); and other services. It previously offered online money transfers through

LBP [1] is very simple to understand and easy to implement. To compute LBP at first we need to
divide the image into cells like 16X16. Then take a pixel into the grid and consider the neighboring
pixels around the pixel. If the center pixel value is greater than or equal to its neighbor, then consider
1 for the neighboring pixel otherwise consider 0. Then take the binary numbers in a sequence
(clockwise or anti clockwise). Assume the number is a binary number and compute the decimal
number. Then set the value to the middle pixel. Compute histogram for each 16x16 cells and finally
concatenate the histograms. The histogram gives the feature vector for entire window. Example of
LBP feature extraction is given in the Figure 2.1
Figure 2.1: Finding decimal value for central pixel using LBP
LBP has some limitations that reduces its application fields. LBP is not rotation invariant and the size
of the features increases exponentially with the number of neighbors which leads to an increase of
computational complexity in terms of time and space.
2.2.1 Noise Adaptive Binary Pattern (NABP)
Noise adaptive binary pattern [12] is a modification of local binary pattern. Though LPB is one of the
most powerful method for feature extraction but it has a lack of discriminative power and sensitive to
noise. LBP may produce same

Data Visualization for Businesses
A picture is worth a thousand words. The ability to graphically represent your business data gives you
the power to make informed business decisions quickly. (Microsoft.com, 2002) This representation
must be visually appealing and easy to understand. By keeping it simple, it allows the broadest
number of users to interpret the data, gain insights as to its meaning and facilitate communication on
the data ultimately to solve the company¡¦s problem. Data visualization is the use of interactive,
sensory representations, typically visual, of abstract data to reinforce cognition. (Wikipedia.org, 2005)

In Figure 1 is the method used to create a pie chart and an example of one complete.
Figure 1
Problem: A pizza parlor owner polled their patrons on what music they would like to listen to while
waiting in line and eating in his establishment. He would like to have the radio playing and needs to
know what music genre would be conducive to sales and preferred by his patrons. Here are his
findings.
Sample size: 100 customers
Rap: 50 Alternative: 25 Rock and Roll: 13 Country: 10 Classical: 2
50 „i 100 like Rap = 50%
Then for drawing a proportionate pie chart:
Percent „i 100 x 360 degrees = the # of degrees
**Circle = 360„a
¡K Therefore Rap will occupy 180„a of the circle
1. Draw a circle with your protractor or stencil
2. Starting from the 12 o¡¦clock position on the circle, measure an angle of 180 degrees with your
protractor. The rap pie should make up half the circle. Mark off the radius with the ruler.
3. Repeat that process with each remaining pie and drawing in their radius according to their
percentage of 360 degrees.
The pie chart in Figure 1 quickly tells you that the majority of the patrons like rap best, and the
remaining students prefer alternative, then rock and roll, then country and ending with classical music.
Simply and quickly we are able to see that the majority of the restaurants¡¦ patrons prefer rap music.
Pie charts work well when the values of

The formal theory such of Max Weber cannot apply since its framework of rules and procedures are to ensure stability, predictability, and reliability of performance; yet, with no stability or predictability in the environment these theories only fall short of their expectations. Rational panning has already been pointed out a century ago by Herbert Simon (1976) to be bounded by many factors such as: skills, habits, and reflexes, values, etc, which makes it impossible to achieve rational planning that is suited for the situation #8230;Moreover, rational planning does not have primary value in Israel s cultural heritage. Survival in the Diaspora often depended on an ability to act quickly, with limited resources, under harsh, changing, and uncertain conditions. (Sharkansky and Zalmanovitch, 2) With endless terrorism, continuous war, and a population growth that shifts from month to month there is the perpetual challenge to respond to each situation expediently and ingeniously. Effectiveness Of A Competitive Market Environment From the past until present, in order to achieve competitive advantage to compete in turbulence and highly competitive market environment, the one who take control over the organisation should design powerful strategies. To create that strategies, managers need both good understanding in internal and external environment, and effective managerial skill to organise sophisticate works arising in organisational routine systematically. The one who assigned as manager has power to control over company resources which included human being. Human can be considered as one of the most valuable resources in the company because value can be added to them through education and experience. However, human could be considered as the most complicate resource. This is because they have personal needs, ambition, and feeling which are different between one to others. Unlike machines or other type of assets that similarly designed to do specific jobs, stereotype should not be applied to workers and there is no one best way to manage or to control them. In particular, it can be said that one size does not fit all. As the result, this issue could be considered as one of the most wildly discussed topics among managerial scholars. The policy was passed by Congress in 1949, its main concern was that diverse views and controversial issues that regard the public be available for society to be aware of. Many have considered the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, in 2005 by U.S Representative Louise Slaughter, in 2007 by Senator Richard Durbin, then again in 2008. In my opinion I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated but also reevaluated and revived so that it fits are society today. The doctrine should include factors that still protect the first amendment but enables the public to be knowledgeable of issues, in which they can form their own opinions on. Since an owner is essentially acquiring a facility on a promise in some form of agreement, it will be wise for any owner to have a clear understanding of the acquisition process in order to maintain firm control of the quality, timeliness and cost of the completed facility. From the perspective of an owner, the project life cycle for a constructed facility may be illustrated schematically in Figure 1 1. Essentially, a project is conceived to meet market demands or needs in a timely fashion. Various possibilities may be considered in the conceptual planning stage, and the technological and economic feasibility of each alternative will be assessed and compared in order to select the best possible project. The financing schemes for the proposed alternatives must also be examined, and the project will be programmed with respect to the timing for its completion and for available cash flows. The Abbasids were the next family that took over after the fall of the Umayyads. The Abbasids had many achievements, and helped expand the empire further. The Umayyads and the Abbasids both ruled the same areas, and they both conquered more area to spread their religion. Although they share features they also are different in their government, and the treatment of the social classes. Some similarities between the Umayyads and the Abbasids are their government, where they rule from, and how they treat the people they conquer. For example both the Umayyads and the Abbasids left the monotheistic religions such as the Christians and the Buddhists to their faith. They let them keep their faith, culture and follow their own laws. Also both empires initiated the jizya, a tax, for all monotheistic non Muslims. Religions like the Christians paid the tax so they did not have to convert, and the Muslims collected the money for their own use. People of other religions like, religions of pagan gods, were forced to convert. Another similarity is where the empires ruled from. During the Umayyad empire, their capital was Damascus, on the coast of Persia. While during the Abbasid period, it was moved to Baghdad, also in Persia. Both empires capitals were centered in Persia, which eventually influenced their culture and traditions. Their last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Catechism of the Catholic Church points out that Christian marriage becomes an efficacious sign, the sacrament of the covenant of Christ and the Church. An efficacious sign not only symbolizes or signifies something, but makes present what it signifies. Marriage signifies and makes present the love of Christ to the baptized spouses; a love by which Christ formed the Church as his spouse. The image of the relationship between bridegroom and bride used to explain the relationship between Christ and the Church in the scriptures are appealing to a natural human relationship. The Scripture however shows that Christ s love for the Church surpasses natural human love. Christ s love for the Church is a love of complete self giving expressed in his death on the Cross. Indigenous people were self governed long before Europeans arrived in Canada, but in 1876, the Indian Act came into effect, dismantling traditional governance systems and Indigenous peoples lives (Bc Treaty Commission). • 37. The Introduction of the Electric Guitar According to the Smithsonian Institute, electronic amplification is one of the most successful innovations brought around at the end of the 1930s. The 1920s had a rise in the popularity of dance music, and the recording industry was getting started. This was also the start of the Big Band Era (guitaristsource.com). Guitar makers started experimenting to develop a new, louder, guitar. Electrical amplification was developed by the radio industry in the 1920s (howstuffworks.com). In 1931, George Beauchamp and Adolf Rickenbacker would go on to develop an electromagnetic pickup they would later use to create the electric guitar. This first model would go on to be called the Frying Pan , because of its resemblance to the cookware. This first model was often played flat on the lap (howstuffworks.com). Eventually, electric guitars began commercial production in the 1930s (Goertzen 435). In 1939, Les Paul, an acoustic guitarist, developed a new type of electric guitar by placing the old pickup on a solid block of wood. This new solid body guitar didn t have the feedback problems that the hollow bodied electric guitars had. Also, it had a greater sustain than earlier models (howstuffworks.com). It was from the start meant to be a marketplace for the sale of goods and services for individuals. In 1998, Pierre and his cofounder Jeff Skoll brought in Meg Whitman to sustain the success. Meg had studied at the Harvard Business School and had learned the importance of branding at companies such as Hasbro. Meg culled her senior staff from companies such as PepsiCo. and Disney, created an experienced management team with an average of 20 years of business experience and built a strong vision for the company that eBay is a company that s in the business of connecting people, not selling them things. They quickly shed the image of only auctioning collectibles and moved into an array of upscale markets where the average sale price (ASP) is higher. ASP is a key metric in determining eBay s transaction fees, so increasing the ASP became an important item. By forging partnerships with name brands such as GM, Disney and Sun, eBay has managed to do exactly that.
