Essay On New York City Crime
New York City is just like every other major city in the United States. New York City crime rate is the
main reason why people are moving out of the city that they call home. American s believe that a civil
decent society is a place where they can receive an education, and have access to things in life such a
life, liberty and freedom. According to United States of America (1994), Public spaces are among
New York City s greatest assets. The city s parks, playgrounds, streets, avenues, stoops and plazas are
the forums that make possible the sense of vitality, excitement, and community that are the pulse of
urban life. As time goes by these places have be ruined by environment problems such as eye sore
graffiti, prostitution, unnecessary panhandling and people in the street intoxicated. When a city have
these types of problems, the citizen feel as if they cannot protect their children because of the
environment. Fear caused by disorder makes people leave the cities and communities that they reside

that they would had reconsider staying in New York City.
The surveys conducted in 1992 and 1993 show New York City s police department that a very much

Essay on House of the Vettii
House of the Vettii
The House of the Vettii belonged to two freedmen, Aulus Vettius Conviva and Aulus Vettius
Restitutus, who amassed a fortune through a flourishing business. The House of the Vettii is not
unusually large for the time or social standing of its owners, but it is obvious that the Vettii were
affluent Pompeian citizens and the house compares to the other large, lavish houses found in Pompeii.
(Mau, 1899: 315) Excavated in the late 19th century, the house is most notable for its remarkably well
preserved frescoes, beautiful garden and large triclinium. The rooms included in the house and the
decoration in the various rooms reflect trends in Roman domestic architecture and art in ... Show more

Another smaller atrium can be accessed through a doorway on the right of the primary atrium. This
atrium contains the house s lararium, or a shrine to the family s Lares. This lararium depicts the
Genius of the household making a sacrifice and surrounded by two Lares. Underneath is a large snake,
a symbol of beneficence and prosperity. (Guzzo, 1998: 60) In all houses of a higher standing there was
an altar dedicated to the Lares and each family was placed under the protection of its own Lares.
Neighborhoods probably had Lares as well, which looked over all of the households. There were also
those which presided over the aggregate destiny, no longer of such and such a financier or merchant,
but of Pompeii as a whole; their temple was therefore situated at the hub of the city s activity, the
Forum, between the Macellum and the Temple of Vespasian, wrote Marcel Brion, explaining the rising
significance of the cult. (Brion, 1960: 88) The lararium in the atrium of the House of the Vettii is a
well preserved example of the household shrines.
The second atrium is also closely associated with the

Part VI The Art Object s Historical Data of its Culture and Time Period
I. Overview of politics, economics, religion and ideology in Italy at the time Botticelli was working:
Introduction:
After the end to the rough and challenging middle ages came a new era of literature art and culture.
this period was known as the Renaissance. The Renaissance started in the early 14th century and
would go on to the 16th century. The renaissance started a social change all through the entire of
Europe and is seen as an extension between the medieval and cutting edge ages. Researchers educated
in writing alongside artists, subjects and schoolmasters, all with a capable hunger for learning, got to
be known as the scholarly development the humanists. They rediscovered Greek and Latin messages
and started to show Latin writing. The artist, history specialist and savant, Francesco Petrarch (1304
1374) was one of the main lights of the development. The lessons of traditional vestige, Greek and
Roman figure, design and writing did not surface again until the begin of the Renaissance in Italy. The
beginnings of the Italian Renaissance fixated on Tuscany and on Florence specifically. The Italians of
the period viewed themselves as to be living in a brilliant age, better than anything subsequent to the
fall of the roman realm a thousand years prior, with

Example Of Masculinity In Beowulf
Beowulf is an Old English poem written somewhere between the eighth century and the tenth century;
the culture of Germanic times is depicted through varying concepts of masculinity that not only
describes their capability as a warrior, but also their aptitude as a leader. Beowulf shows of a demon
named Grendel attacking Heorot, and the king, Hrothgar, calls Beowulf, a warrior, for help with the
slaying of Grendel. Characteristics and qualities of leadership are directly linked to the masculinity of
the characters within Beowulf. The leaders in the prologue are demonstrated with the aspects of
masculinity through their strength and brutality. In Beowulf, a man demonstrates his essential worth
through evidence of masculinity as seen in Unferth s cowardice, Beowulf s heroism, and Wiglaf s
bravery. Unferth is considered less of a man because he is more intelligent than masculine. He may be
intelligent, but he is neither a strong warrior nor a brave one. Beowulf recalls that fact that Unferth has
been a warrior for Hrothgar the entire time that Grendel has been attacking, and he has done nothing
towards defeating the monster. Beowulf states, Now I cannot recall / any fight you entered, Unferth, /
that bears comparison. (lines 582 84) Unferth may have been an intelligent man, but his lack of a high
degree of masculinity causes his worth to be lower than that of Beowulf or any other brave warrior.
Unferth s inability to kill Grendel causes Hrothgar and the other warriors

Followers, Fans And Fever Pitch
Looking at football from a perspective other than just the physical aspect of the game is such an
interesting topic because you can truly begin to see how the game has changed socially and
economically. The rules itself have stayed the same for many years, but the social aspect of the game
has changed dramatically. As I will talk about, in my opinion, there are fewer fans that have a true
connection with their club which relates to both of this weeks readings: Supporters, Followers, Fans
and Fever Pitch.
Connecting Supporters, Followers, Fans and Flaneurs by Richard Guilianotti and Fever Pitch by Nick
Hornby, it is clear to understand what type of fan Hornby was according to Guilianotti. Hornby clearly
displays a strong passion for his club, Arsenal, and based off the stories that he tells he would be
classified as a supporter. A supporter has a long term personal and emotional investment in the club
which results in a strong passion for anything involving their club (Guilianotti 33). I thought how the
three pieces of writing connected were interesting because it seems to me today that in today s world
you do not hear about people that are so strongly passionate about clubs and teams anymore like
Hornby. But why?
In my perspective there may be a multitude of reasons which include football not being as popular
here in the United States and that football appears to be so socially based compared to what it used to
be. Throughout Hornby s book Fever Pitch I constantly got

The Importance Of Violence In Schools
When it comes to violence in schools, it s nothing new. Every day, the news media covers a story over
violence happening in school. My views over violence in school is there needs to be better protection.
The safety in schools is important because the kids in school is our future. They are our future
engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc., and if they don t have the protection they need, the kids in school can
t learn. A couple suggestions to make the schools safer are practice the A.L.I.C.E. more than once, go
over what to do when an intruder is in the building, and how to protect themselves and the people
around them.
A way for the schools to be safer is to practice the A.L.I.C.E. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown,
Inform, Counter, and Evacuate (Eells). It s effective to practice it because the kids and teachers have a
chance to practice how to protect themselves during a real life events. School intruder situations can
last anywhere between five to seven minutes (Eells). When the school is alerted that they are on
lockdown, teachers are advised to use plain and simple language. They are advised to use plain and
simple language because it won t confuse the children and they can escape quicker. If the class can t
escape through the windows or through the doors, the school urges them to barricade and lockdown
the classroom. Barricading the classroom may include moving file cabinets to the door, shoving desks
against the door also, and covering all windows. After lockdown,

Richard III Disappearance
The fate of the Princes in the Tower has baffled historians and laymen alike for over half a
millennium. Despite centuries of investigations, this deeply shrouded mystery continues to produce
more questions than answers. Was the young boy king and his brother murdered on the orders of their
nefarious uncle, Richard III? Or were the members of the rival house the Lancasters responsible for
this heinous crime?
In my paper, I will examine the facts and events leading up to the boys supposed disappearance. By
reconstructing this chain of events, I intend to prove that the princes uncle, Richard III, had the boys
killed to insure his own claim to the throne.
On April 9, 1483, King Edward IV succumbed to a supposed fever. During his twenty one ... Show

While the princes were no longer considered eligible for succession, Richard III s right to the crown
was uncertain. Because of Richard s position as king, it is improbable that the princes could be
murdered without his knowledge. With his nephews dead, Richard was free to rule without fear the
young boys would be the figurehead of a rebellion. In her book The Princes in the Tower (1992),
Alison Weir wrote:
When, on 8th September, he walked hand in hand with his son and his wife into York Minister for
Edward s [his son] investiture as Prince of Wales, the King did so in belief that he had removed the
last dynastic threat to his throne and to put an end once and for all to the conspiracies that had over
shadowed his reign (pg. 162)
Nevertheless, Richard s reign was plagued with rumors and allegations of nepoticide. In a 1483
edition of the Danzig Chronicle, Caspar Weinrich alleged that ...Richard the king s brother seized
power and had his brother s children killed... (Pollard, 1991, pg. 122) In January 1484, Lord
Chancellor of France Guillaume de Rochefort said that Edward IV s sons have been put to death with
impunity, and the royal crown transferred to their murderer by favor of the people. (Pollard, 1991, pg.

Knights In The Canterbury Tales
People have fantasied for ages about how it was to be a knight in medieval times. Knights have a huge
reputation of being the heroes of impossible tales and for having a great admiration of the women of
the court. It s not hard to imagine why people have put so much historical importance on knights and
their heroic deeds. For how many people have slayed a dragon and saved the princess from the short
life of being a dragons mealtime appetizer. Many people have tried to explain why knights did what
they did but no one was able to explain it as well as Geoffrey Chaucer. Chaucer uses the knight s tale
in his The Canterbury Tales to explain the complex relationship between a knight and his woman of
the courts.

Early Entrance Of The National Football League Draft
Early Entrance: The Road to the National Football League Draft A recent article in the Wall Street
Journal written in March 2014 discusses why underclassmen were suddenly leaving in droves for the
NFL draft. A picture on the front depicts Johnny Manziel who decided to leave Texas A M after his
redshirt sophomore season. The article states, Throughout the offices and film rooms of NFL teams,
the whispers are building: This may be the deepest NFL draft ever. It also may be the one that ruins
college football (Clark, 2014). A modification in the NFL s collective bargaining agreement with its
players, which was signed in 2011, is being accused for a shift so dramatic, some within the game
worry that the talent and recruiting of college football could possibly never be the same. The point
Clark (2014) is trying to get across is that players are rushing to drop out of college early to start their
professional careers. According to the article, in the 2014 NFL draft there were 98 underclassmen, a
34% increase from 2013 and an 85% increase from 2010, the year before the latest collective
bargaining agreement. The average age of an NFL player last season was 26 years 308 days, the
youngest since 1987 (Clark, 2014). Since the late 1980s, players who are three years out of high
school have been eligible to enter the draft. For the first few decades when underclassmen were
permitted in the draft, teams paid massive amounts of money on the top pick players who were then

Symbolism Within The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Within The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, Symbolism is used to give a deeper meaning into the
characters and context of the events that occur in the story. This symbolism is used to spark
interest, memory, and most importantly, emotions. The author uses biotic and abiotic things to trigger
these thoughts. They play huge roles when it comes to keeping the story going. The author even uses
the people themselves as symbols. Throughout the book it is listed that if humans become too soft or
delicate they become the prey. The author uses the Morlocks as the predator. The Morlocks are
another species of pale human that have turned to refusing to be delicate and self survival. They are
what moves the whole plot forward. The Morlocks eat the Eloi. This relationship is somewhat similar
to a farmer cattle relationship. As a result, the Eloi are taken advantage of due to their delicate nature.
This shows the reader that man is it s own enemy. The author symbolizes the Morlocks as an evil. The
author connects these Morlocks with the White Sphinx into which the Time Traveler has to journey

Catheterization Research Paper
Catheters are tubes that are used to drain fluids from the body. They are often employed in removing
the fluid from the urinary bladder and therefore, are an important element in urology care. It is
important to understand their importance and correct use, if you are looking to take care of a patient. It
used in a variety of environments.
Here, we first look at how catheters are used and then discuss the problems that may appear when they
are not used in the proper manner.
Catheters in Urology Care
Catheters are basically connected either to a bodily vessel or a cavity. They can be used to either drain
body fluids or push medicine into the body. Catheterization can be done, using a number of needles
and tubes. Some of them are soft while some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are easily employed by a patient or a trained caregiver at home and therefore, ensure that they
can be used in different circumstances. They are perfect for people who have lost their urinary control
due to a variety of reasons.
The advantage of this method is that you can avoid constant catheterization which is associated with
several problems, such as male infertility and tract infections. The method also ensures that patients
can keep their bladder pressure low throughout the day. These catheters do not cause prolonged issues
and can easily be avoided once the person is able to use ordinary methods.
Foley Catheter A Foley catheter is designed to be connected to the bladder through the urethra. It is the
most commonly used catheter in urology care. It has two channels with one open and the other one
with a balloon. The open channel is used to drain urine out while the closed channel is used to inflate
the balloon. The inflation keeps a Foley catheter in place. These catheters are created these days from
silicone rubber.
They should only be used when indicated by a medical practitioner. As they are inserted through the
urethra, they carry a greater risk of infections and other side effects.

The Global Supply Chain Network
Executive Summary
The global supply chain network is often faces challenges in many directions. Currently the
environmental issues and the exhaustion of natural resources leads to complications and become the
prime factors which affects the cost, time and effort in global logistics and supply chain management.
An analysis of the Montreal based Cirque de soleil is done with various factors and criteria for
evaluation of the key issues. The key issues are distribution complexities, increasing transportation
cost, production inefficiency, delivery lead times and logistics partnership strategies. The objective is
to streamline the global supply chain network by redesigning the existing system with new integrated
model using CPFR (Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment). This concept is
effectively supported by the SAP System which integrates the demand management, better sales
forecasting, effective distribution and timely replenishment.
The analysis results with the identification of locations for the new distribution model and
substantiated with the rationale of site selection considering all criteria s. The implementation and the
SAP integration describe the action plans and come out with the pros and cons of the proposed supply
chain system. And finally concludes with the pros and cons of the new system. The objectives of the
key issues are resulted with the solution but the on the other side the strategic changes in the

Side Effects Of Potassium Sorbates
Even though sorbates are widely used not only in food industries, but cosmetic products due to their
good preservative properties, there are also several health concerns regarding the consumption and
exposure of sorbates. Albeit regarded as safe and non toxic, some people still experienced side effects
of prolong consumption of foods containing sorbates. Some reported diarrhea and even nausea (in
case of potassium sorbate) after consuming extreme amount of sorbates, decreasing the nutrient value
of their system. Irritations and rashes may also be an issue by some people after over exposure to this
preservative. Potassium sorbate is of a greater concern as compared to the other two, sorbic acid and
calcium sorbate who have allergies to potassium affecting the renal and kidney. Nonetheless, the
maximum allowable limit for sorbates is only 0.1%. The effect of sorbates is observed at least 0.5%. ...

The Chaotic Reign of Akhenaten
Amenhotep III was a pharaoh of ancient Egypt from around 1388 BC till about 1350 BC. During his
rule of Egypt, was a period of unprecedented prosperity and artistic splendor (Wiki: Amenhotep III).
The art from this time showed several gods that ancient Egyptians worshiped, such as Amun, Anubis,
Aten, Ra, and many others. Most art was drawn in a way that most of the body parts were sized
according to standard proportions, yet the poses were so rigid that they seem to have little sense of
movement, if any at all. Many of these drawings were reliefs on walls and pottery. The art was known
for its boldness and controlled vitality. Most of the architecture and sculptures were made from heavy
materials, mostly stone, which helped to emphasize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The temple appeared to not have a roof in order for the offering tables to be exposed to direct sunlight.
Smaller temples, such as the Rud menu, the Teni menu, and Hwt benben (Redford), were also
constructed as Aten temples.
These upcoming drastic changes have been thought to be either that Amenhotep has somehow lost his
sanity, that he found a new religious revelation, or for political reasons like the fact that pharaohs may
have been heading towards a direction where they would lose their powers over the people to the gods
or the cults following them. In Amenhotep IV s fifth year of his reign, He chose to change his name to
Akhenaten. This was due to the name Amenhotep is directed to the god Amun by meaning Amun is
satisfied and Akhenaten meaning Spirit of the Aten . At this time is when most of what we know as
Egypt had changed for a short period in history. Soon after his change of name he found a new city
called Akhentaten ( Horizon of Aten , known now as Amarna) and started the construction of his new
capital. By his seventh year he moved the capital to this new city in possible attempts of breaking
previous Egyptian religion which the old capital, Thebes, was heavily influenced with. By his ninth
year he created a new religion where there was no after life or other gods besides the sun god.

Descriptive Essay About My First Buck
My First Buck
It was a bitter cold November morning. November 15 to be exact. This is a very special day to my
family and I. We woke up early that morning to get ready for the exciting day ahead of us. We bundled
up in many layers of clothes and made some cofee for my Dad.
We then set off to the blind before the trophies come out. As I was walking to the blind I could see my
breath. As the sun set over the leafless trees, we began to start hearing some life throughout the woods.
Although the movement we have heard has not been the trophy we have been looking for it just keeps
my heart pumping. We have probably been in the blind for about 5 hours so we decided to go grab
something to eat from the truck when suddenly we heard heavy footsteps right behind our blind which
is where the door is. I creeked the door open and what I saw made my heart go a million miles a
second. 3 doe stood behind us creeping around. They seemed very sketchy so immediatly we closed
the door and waited for them to come around to the front of the blind. The day got so much better
knowing that there are deer in this area. Even though they were doe we still had the thought in our
mind that a trophy buck might just pass through here looking for a mate. We watched the deer walk
about 30 yards in front of us for about 20 miniutes but by that time i was ready for a buck to come
through here. It was hard to sit still in the blind because there is old about 5 feet of room in there and I

thibetanus. No studies are available as to the exact form of communication between Asiatic black
bears. However, extensive research has been conducted on other members of the family Ursidae that
have senses similar to those of the Asiatic black bear. Using evidence from these studies, it can be
inferred that Asiatic black bears communicate vocally and use their heightened sense of hearing to aid
in listening to these vocalizations. For example, when bear cubs are separated from their mothers, they
make crying calls. Low guttural noises can be indications of a bear being apprehensive, and clicking
the teeth together is an indication of aggressiveness. Bears often communicate visually with each other
by the way in which they move or behave in the presence of other bears; for example, the behavior of
a bear can convey either dominant or subordinate status to another. To indicate subordinate status, a
bear moves away, or sits or lies down. To convey dominance, a bear walks or runs towards a rival.
Bears use their acute sense of smell in order to communicate with other members of their species; they
do so by urinating, defecating, and by rubbing against trees to leave their scent for other bears to

Theory X and Theory Y
McGregor referred to the opposing motivational methods that he identified, as Theory X and Theory Y
management. Each assumes that the manager s role is to organize resources, including people, to best
benefit the company. However, beyond this commonality, they re quite dissimilar. While Theory X
represents the traditional view of management, Theory Y represents the newer attitudes in
organizational psychology.
This does not mean that all managers believe entirely in Theory X or Theory Y. Most managers
probably believe that people are a combination of both, with tendency to behave as one type.
Theory X and Theory Y tend to influence and get influenced by External and Internal Modifiers. This
can be understood better from the diagram given below.

Theory X Traditional View of Direction Control
Theory X is based on the assumptions that the average human beings dislike work, wishes to avoid
responsibility if at all possible. Therefore most people must be coerced, controlled to achievement of
organizational objectives. Theory X management style therefore requires close, firm supervision with
clearly specified tasks.
Essentially, Theory X assumes that the primary source of most employee motivation is monetary, with
security as a strong second. According to this theory employees will show little ambition without an

The Importance Of The Hardest Working Students In College
The issue that I am prevailing is that college students are some of the hardest working people in
todays society, we are dedicated to achieve our goals to have a great future ahead of us. When a
student says there are busy, that most likely means that they do indeed have a good amount of school
work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is Researchers have worked out which
majors work the hardest in college (The Tab). The hardest working major according to this article is
architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the classroom. The second is the
engineering major, while architect work 22 hours a week this major puts in about 20 hours a week out
of class. These majors all definitely include required studying, writing, reading, doing home work or
lab work. These majors have been decided through a national survey taken by students. For this
certain issue I feel that I am considered a centrist on the political spectrum. I feel like I am centrist
because I have times that I have a lot of work one week but another I have more free time to do with
my free time. Most of my friends feel like they are in the center, between a busy schedule and then a
more free schedule. Although my family is more far right in the political spectrum because they know
we have a lot going on and do not want to feel to intervene in their studying. When I read the text
from the article I picked out from The Tab I originally felt like I was more busy at times and

The World Is Too Much With Us Meaning
The Search for Happiness In the poem The World is Too Much With Us, Wordsworth implies that to
find true happiness one must disconnect himself from the corrupted world; in fact, Wordsworth goes
so far as to say true salvation lies in a reconnection to nature. Wordsworth speaks throughout the work
about the discontinuity of modern society with nature in it s never ending search for a distraction. An
analysis of the work allows the reader a reflection on themselves and their own happiness and
connection to nature, and what they would be willing to give up for that connection. An example of
Wordsworth s belief that modern society has become disconnected with nature and is corrupt, is in the
diction that he uses. Throughout the piece, the author states many of the ways in which the people
have become disconnected with true meaning such as, getting and spending, we lay waste our powers,
and we are out of tune [with nature], (Wordsworth 2,8). Wordsworth in these instances is explaining
the depth of our disconnection with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth was brought up in the Church of England and was a pious believer. However, in his
poem, Wordsworth states that he would, rather be a pagan suckled in a creed outworn, than be
disconnected with nature (9 10). This a further testament to Wordsworth s commitment to nature and
what he would be willing to give up in order to remain connected to it. In reference to Wordsworth s
statement that he would prefer paganism to disconnection Aubrey says, Wordsworth is saying,
presumably, that superstition is preferable to worldliness or apathy if it preserves the life of the
imagination and our sense of nature as a living presence with purposes akin to our own. In
Wordsworth s eyes, a life apart from the institution of belief he was raised in is much preferable to the
death of all that nature embodies for

The Importance Of Deep Ecology
Deep ecology is about always asking questions about human life, nature, and society.
Deep ecology is more meditative and goes beyond the factual scientific level, to the level of self and
Earth wisdom. It goes beyond a shallow approach to environmental problems. It articulates a
comprehensive religious and philosophical worldview, along with ecological consciousness.
Ecological consciousness and deep ecology contrast the technocratic industrial societies that isolate
humans from nature.
Over time Western culture has been obsessed with dominance. Humans over non humans, masculinity
over femininity, wealthy over poor, western over non western cultures. Deep ecological consciousness
allows us to see through the perception of this dangerous illusion. A dominant world view is centered
around maximizing and using natural resources for our destructive consumerist habits. Deep ecology
is about minimizing and finding harmony with nature.
Deep ecology means reflecting on ourselves. The search for deep ecological consciousness is the
search for an objective consciousness and state of active deep questioning and meditative process as a
way of life.
Arne Naess said that deep ecology is The shallow and the deep, long range ecology movement
This quote describes the deeper, spiritual approach to nature. This deeper approach allows us to be
more open and sensitive to ourselves and nonhuman life.
Arne Naess developed two ultimate norms which were brought by deep questioning and reveal

Northern Mesopotamia And. Cahokia And Monte Alban
Small communities in southern Mesopotamia evolved to one of the earliest states due to
environmental changes that occurred between the Ubaid and Uruk periods. These environmental
changes such as the creation of Arabo Persian Gulf increased population in certain regions, which in
turn increased competition, warfare, and optimal settings for trade. All this lead to some of the earliest
states being formed in Southern Mesopotamia.
Cahokia and Monte Alban are two examples of primary states that were formed in Mesoamerica due
to their competition level. Monte Alban used strategic warfare tactics to get control over regions that
were rich in resources in order to do create a sustainable state. On the other hand because of Cahokia s
lack of control over distant regions, their state destructed in a very short time period, concluding that
competition was the main reason for early state formation.
In the later years of Northern Mesopotamia civilization, the climate changed dramatically causing the
collapse of several states in the region. Volcano eruptions, increased degree of dryness, and other
changes in the climate destroyed the agriculture in the area causing people to relocate to other states.
This article solidifies the view that environmental changes are the only reason states formed in certain
regions in the first place.

Reflection Of The Book Of Revelation
The book of Revelation opens with an astonishing glimpse of future events that Jesus revealed to
John. God gave Jesus the revelation, and Jesus sent the revelation to His servant John by an angel. In
this opening scene of Revelation, John heard a mighty voice behind him speaking to him. When he
turned to see who was speaking he saw a graphic view of seven candlesticks with a man standing
amid them. The display of seven candlesticks and the One in the middle of them was significant to the
totality of the vision that John received to be written down for an everlasting record of the things that
must certainly come to pass for all believers. John, the servant of Jesus Christ, had been exiled on the
Isle of Patmos because of his witness and testimony of the word of God, and because of his all
embracing commitment to Jesus. He proclaimed that he was in the Spirit on the Lord s Day when he
heard a mighty, powerful voice speaking behind him. Upon hearing the voice, he immediately gave
heed to the direction of the voice and saw seven candlesticks and the One standing in the midst of
them. The significance of the candlesticks was that they were symbolic of the seven churches that
were in Asia. The Lord assigned John the task of writing to the seven churches and reporting the
revelation to them that was divulged to him by Jesus. Jesus analyzed each of the churches and
revealed to John a status report of His findings. The very candid reports, whether good or bad,

The Wisdom Of Whores-Bureaucrats Chapter Summary
Elizabeth Pisani s The Wisdom of Whores Bureaucrats, Brothels and the Business of AIDS is a great
book (along with a great website). Elizabeth Pisani is an epidemiologist with years of experience
working on HIV/AIDS (or sex and drugs, as she puts, which sounds a lot, well, sexier) at a variety of
agencies, including UNAIDS. The book is the story of her frustrations at the way the international
community, national governments, NGOS and AIDS activists have dealt with the epidemics, as well as
her hopes in some of the progress made. To me, precisely because the book is data driven, it was not
controversial. My reaction was more, well, if that s what the data show, so be it. But also, I think, the
book was billed as controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writer on the contrary points out that the initiatives have not achieved the required target because
some of them advocate for things which are not practical. Instead, she proposes that emphasis should
be laid on educating people about safe sex and not trying to restrict and control individual liberty
supposedly for the greater good. She believes the disease is not about poverty and gender related
issues, it is behavior change. Many people in African countries get the virus because of having unsafe
sex with multiple partners. This is why the rates of infection are not declining despite the billions
being spent. The honesty box tries to bring out hidden facts behind the myths told by various
researchers concerning HIV/AIDS. Some of these myths are based on the data presented which are
usually inflated to favor funding and to act as a precautionary measure that AIDS exists everywhere.
The book opens the honesty box on drawbacks of medical research within the tropics. Pisani tackles
highly contentious issues with zest, including the possible public health shortcoming of antiretroviral
treatment, in addition to the benefits of mandatory HIV/AIDS testing. The author also presents data to
show that if couples living in Thailand were to have further premarital sex, then their men would be
the least likely to use commercial sex workers and the

Plant Pollinators
Plants and Pollinators To begin, let me ask you something, what would it feel like not to have flowers
or colorful fruits surrounding you or if they were never there in the first place. Well we should thank
our amazing pollinators as such as the bee, hummingbird, e.t.c. We sometimes don t realize how
important they are to us and that we take them for granted. Pollinators play a hard working role in the
ecosystem and are extremely important. The reason they are such an important factor to this world is
because pollinators are the ones that create and maintain new habitats for our ecosystems. These
pollinators are also held responsible for helping the plants grow our amazing fruits that we have today.
Since from this help from pollinators, fruits and other flowers that are pollinated can turn into world
needs and help out the world in many ways. It is said that more than 1,200 types of plants are grown
around the world for food,, medicines, spices, or even condiments. Of these, about 75% are pollinated
by animals. More than one of every three bites of food we eat or beverages we drink are directly
because of pollinators. Indirectly, pollinators ultimately play a role in the majority of what we eat and
consume. You can also make a positive difference near or around your household. So next you think
of bees or hummingbirds just know that those animals are the ones that make this world better. Plant
pollinators are amazing to this world and help every plant out there.. But

Criticism Killed The Mockingbird When they called you crybaby or poor or fatty or crazy

Courage, written by Ann Sexton, depicts a person courageous enough to accept their own differences,
even when others don t accept them. The negative response the person in this poem faces reminds us
that differences are often criticized and leave us open to ridicule. Harper Lee elucidates a similar idea
through the stories of her characters in her novel To Kill A Mockingbird. Taking place in the Jim Crow
era, Lee s novel tells a devastating story of racial prejudice as well as other prejudices that prove to be
just as toxic. With the experiences of her characters, Lee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fear of being treated poorly causes Mr. Raymond and Mayella Ewell to hide what makes them

While enrolled in Existence and Reality, a course offered at Allan Hancock College, I was tasked to

is death, is there a God, is there life after death, why is there so much evil and suffering in the world,
and what is the good life? Due to my religious beliefs, I am certain that there is a God, but when
talking about the concept of life, I found myself questioning what my purpose was. I have always had

After sustaining a knee injury that required for surgical intervention while in high school, I struggled
with recurring ailments throughout my intercollegiate career. It was not until my father, who is an
Osteopathic physician, was performing manipulation on me did we begin to diagnose the potential
causes. The issue was muscle imbalance and limited flexibility in certain areas of my body that was
shifting majority of my weight onto my knees while performing certain movements. This went
unnoticed by physicians because while performing examinations the scope was concentrated on the
immediate areas around my knee. With the knowledge I obtained through manipulation I have been
able to treat my knee ailments by strengthening and lengthening muscles throughout my body. Having
this experience helped solidify that if I am to be the physician I aspire to be, it is imperative to be
trained in this form of medicine.

Compare And Contrast Napoleon Bonaparte And Sundiata
Napoleon and Sundiata
Two leaders, both prominent in their own respect, Napoleon Bonaparte, and the legendary Sundiata,
were important figures in their time. Napoleon, who helped restore France to a superpower, and
perhaps the only time in history France could be considered a world power, or at least a country that is
successful in war, led the French Army to many victories until the fateful and historic Battle of
Waterloo, in which he suffered a defeat that he never fully recovered from. Sundiata, born a cripple,
and deemed unfit for anything but a life of mediocrity by his peers, became a great warrior, a great
leader, through his determination and wit, and through his spite for those who shamed his weaknesses
and failed to see his potential. Both had a lasting impact in their ... Show more content on

He won the French many victories, reformed France economically and socially in ways that not only

Sundiata, although much of his achievements are uncertain, was, in theory and tale, very similar to
Napoleon in that he started from the bottom of the heap and fought his way up, as well as that they
were both well respected in their leadership. However, there are a few key differences that I will
mention further into this paper. Sundiata Keita, more often called Sundiata, was born in Niani, Guinea,
in 1190. He was born into the royal family, the rulers of Mandinka (present day Guinea), was labeled
as crippled by those around him because he could not walk, and was very physically inept until around
the age of ten. The only reason for Sundiata marrying a woman as unattractive as Sundiata s mother
was an apparent prophecy, in which Sundiata was

Maternal Mortality And Death Of A Pregnant Woman Essay
Introduction
Maternal mortality/death is defined as the death of a pregnant woman by causes related to the
pregnancy or its management, or death of a post partum mother within 42 days after pregnancy
termination (Requejo, Bryce, Victora, Deixel, 2013; Ronsmans, Graham, group, 2006; Say et al.,
2014). There are proposals to change this definition to make it include one year post partum death of
mothers, as the risk of death has been shown to remain high half a year post partum (Ronsmans et al.,
2006). Many maternal deaths that occur usually occur in low and middle income countries. In the year
2010, 287, 000 maternal deaths that were avoidable occurred, and most occurred in these developing
countries. Reduction of maternal deaths has been one of the outcomes that have been targeted in the
efforts to improve maternal health for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Say et al., 2014).
In developing countries, especially Sub Saharan Africa, where fertility levels remain high, maternal
deaths have continued to be high despite the general deaths reduction (Requejo et al., 2013). Many
argue that there is not enough information to confidently describe and quantify this problem, but
Requejo et al., 2013 reported that the available information is sufficient.
The social issues
The causes of maternal deaths are both direct and indirect. Majorly, the causes of maternal death are
usually the aftermath of childbirth and pregnancy, and are majorly contributed to by diseases and

Thesis: Although using the corporal punishment method in schools is intended to change the behavior
of the student, teachers should not be allowed to use this method to punish students because it s not
effective for the child s behavioral change, and it affects the child s behavior mentally and physically.
I.Hurts the child physically and abuses the child right
II. Destructive rather than constructive
A. Many people believe that corporal punishment is a method of encouraging students for better
academic performance with no cost.
B. Ineffective for the child s long term behavioral change
III. It affects the child s behavior psychologically
A. Makes the student violent
B. It lowers the child s self esteem
Corporal Punishment of Children
When I was in middle school at St. Mary s Catholic School, in Ethiopia, I used to see our teachers
using different techniques to punish my classmates. I remember an incident in middle school where a
friend of mine was punished in a harmful way because he failed to answer a question. Although the
use of corporal punishment in schools is intended to change the behavior of the student, teachers
should not be allowed to use this method to punish their students because it hurts the student
physically and abuses the child right, it is not effective for the child s behavioral change, and it affects
the student s behavior psychologically.

Carl Sandburg And The American Dream
The American Dream is a well known concept and idea that many immigrants and Americans strived
for in order to become successful. Unlike most countries where rising from rags to riches was highly
uncommon and a hopeless dream, America was a place for people to work hard and achieve their
dreams. Carl Sandburg was a very influential poet who came from very humble beginnings under
immigrant parents who had moved to America. He believed in an ordered society where people could
strive and accomplish what they chose without being influenced by the majority of the country. To
achieve the American Dream, Sandburg had to travel across the States, overcome challenging
experiences, such as searching for newspapers to work for, keeping a job, and dealing with the death
of his daughter Madeline. His American Dream of becoming a successful poet, journalist, and goal of
leaving a lasting legacy only became reality after many years of hard work and perseverance.
To begin, there are not many people who can say that their childhood started with joining the army,
later living on the streets, and working a variety of jobs. Due to these circumstances, Sandburg had
many goals and even more ideals he wished to share to the world. As a youth, he lived a difficult life,
as he quit school in 8th grade and was always busy working to help his family by delivering milk,
collecting ice, laying bricks, and more, before becoming a hobo in 1897 (Barr 1). Sandburg struggled

He demonstrates God s existence by the observation that each thing in the universe that moves, is
moved by something else. Nothing can be at once in both actuality and responsibility in the same way.
From a series of movers, it must have begun with a prime mover. Second way: Argument from
efficient cause. Every efficient cause must itself have an efficient cause and because there cannot be

Roe V. Wade Case Analysis
On a cold day in January of 1973, Roe V. Wade was passed by the Supreme Court. This nationwide
case made abortion fully legal in the United States. Supreme Court justices agreed that the
constitutions first, fourth, ninth, and fourteenth amendments protect an individual s rights of privacy
against state laws. Things such as marriage, contraception, and so forth fall under such laws. It was
found that abortion falls under these privacy laws, as well. This was a huge win for women s rights.
Not only did women gain the right to make a safe and legal decision about their own bodies, but it was
also an important win because at the time one in five maternal deaths were due to illegal abortions
(Abortion, Issues and Controversies). Now that abortion is legal, and has been for over forty years, the
maternal death rate is much lower and the number of abortions is actually declining (Rachel, Jones, et
al.). Women in the modern age now have access to safe abortions, which is good. However, they also

Pregnancy is not a walk in the park, and deciding to spend nine months carrying a baby should be a
nothing but a positive and healthy experience for a women; not something that she is forced against
her will to do because she simply has no other options. If abortions were to become illegal once again,
many women seeking to terminate their pregnancies would be forced to resort to unsafe and dangerous
underground procedures. These underground abortions, which would most likely be performed in an
unsanitary location and not by a medical professional, would lead to higher instances of infection and
death (Abortion, Issues and controversies). Politicians, state governments, and people that want to put
heavy restrictions and even outlaw all access to abortion are immensely damaging the fundamental
rights of women to make private decisions on what to do with their own

Scuba Snorkeling And Snorkeling Diving
The Extreme and Thrilling Dangers of Scuba Diving
Have you ever been scuba diving or perhaps seen pictures of it? It is an amazing opportunity that
should be on everyone s bucket list. When most people look out at the ocean, they think of how
beautiful it is. Although the ocean is marvelous on the outside, they re only looking at the outside. The
inside is when it really takes your breath away. When scuba diving, you are given the chance to swim
in one of the world s glories the ocean. The views of the majestic, unique, and extraordinary
landforms, ships, and animals are extremely amazing and breath taking.
A thing to consider is the difference between scuba diving and snorkeling. Snorkeling is out of a
snorkel (where the name comes from) and they skim the surface of the water. Scuba diving is deep
underwater exploring. You breath usually compressed air so you have longer endurance and don t have
to return to the surface until your air runs low. Going deep underwater where water is very pressurized
and air is limited makes scuba diving an extremely more dangerous activity. Although scuba diving
can be very dangerous, to some the danger gives extreme divers a thrill.
There are many diving spots throughout the world that are extremely dangerous. These are places
where people have lost their lives diving in. Extreme divers are waiting to conqueror spots like these
for the thrill where others won t step foot near, in fear of their life falling like some of the other

The Infamous Reputation of Drones
For many people, just the word drone sends a chill down their spine. The infamous reputation of these
unmanned flying objects comes from their heavy use in war zones where they are meant to track and
kill. The purpose of these drones is to complete a mission without risking the lives of soldiers.
Contrary to popular belief, most drones are used for purposes other than warfare. The public rarely
hears about the positive side of drones and thus their opinion on drones is simply biased because they
do not realize that there is another, much larger side to drones that is peaceful. Most drones are used
for surveillance along borders or simply for fun. The use of drones for recreation seems to slowly be
catching on and will offer amazing possibilities. Even though many people do not recognize the
positive side of drones, they have the power to revolutionize the way we see and understand the world,
protect the lives of the soldiers and allow for amazing private experiences through their wide range of
uses. Drones have long proven their superiority in warfare. They are capable to follow their target
without being noticed and can strike whenever needed without have a solder on the ground. It is not
even necessary for the drone pilot to be in the same country as the drone. A drone can fly in
Afghanistan but the pilot is safe in his own home country. The drone technology therefore saves the
lives of many soldiers who would otherwise be in harms way. Drones can prevent ambushes,

Analysis Of The Book Night By Elie Wiesel
McBride 1 Brandy McBride McAndrew ELAAugust 6, 2017 Night In the book Night by Elie Wiesel
there are many instances where his use of imagery helps establish tone and purpose. For example Elie
Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is serious and mature.
In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration camps or the Nazis. His use of
fire also helps show his purpose. Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my
life into one long night seven times scaled. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the
small faces of the children whose bodies I saw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However he then stated Where is he? This is where hanging here from this gallows... that night the
soup tasted like corpses (page 65). Here Wiesel had two very different opinions on the soup. The way
he described the soup in the first quote showed he was hungry and happy although once he realized
the truth everything changed. He soon found the soup to be repulsing and he wanted nothing to do
with it. For example when he says the soup tasted like corpses he means that they did not feel the
satisfaction of eating because they just witnessed a horrific occurrence. This helps with tone because
the reader can tell how quickly his tone went downhill. Last but not least is the sense of smell which
Wiesel used throughout the book by explaining the burners and crematories. In front of us, those
flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been around midnight. We had arrived. In
Birkenau (28, Wiesel). Along with the smell Wiesel had witnessed and heard awful events that took
place in the burners. Over there. Do you see the chimney over there? Do you see it? And the flames,
do you see them? (Yes, we saw the flames.) Over there, that s where they will take you. Over there
will be your grave. You still don t understand? You sons of bitches. Don t you understand anything?
You will be burned! Burned into a cinder! Turned to ashes (30 31, Wiesel). This shows a different
tone. It shows fear and worry because does anyone really

Essay on House of the Vettii House of the Vettii The House of the Vettii belonged to two freedmen, Aulus Vettius Conviva and Aulus Vettius Restitutus, who amassed a fortune through a flourishing business. The House of the Vettii is not unusually large for the time or social standing of its owners, but it is obvious that the Vettii were affluent Pompeian citizens and the house compares to the other large, lavish houses found in Pompeii. (Mau, 1899: 315) Excavated in the late 19th century, the house is most notable for its remarkably well preserved frescoes, beautiful garden and large triclinium. (Guzzo, 1998: 60) In all houses of a higher standing there was an altar dedicated to the Lares and each family was placed under the protection of its own Lares. Neighborhoods probably had Lares as well, which looked over all of the households. There were also those which presided over the aggregate destiny, no longer of such and such a financier or merchant, but of Pompeii as a whole; their temple was therefore situated at the hub of the city s activity, the Forum, between the Macellum and the Temple of Vespasian, wrote Marcel Brion, explaining the rising significance of the cult. Art Object s Historical Data Of Its Culture And Time Period Kevin Puca Professor Cheryl Knowles Harrigan Art Appreciation FORMAL ANALYSIS of Crucifixion of St. Peter by Michelangelo Buonarroti Part VI The Art Object s Historical Data of its Culture and Time Period I. Overview of politics, economics, religion and ideology in Italy at the time Botticelli was working: Introduction: After the end to the rough and challenging middle ages came a new era of literature art and culture. this period was known as the Renaissance. The Renaissance started in the early 14th century and would go on to the 16th century. The renaissance started a social change all through the entire of Europe and is seen as an extension between the medieval and cutting edge ages. Researchers educated in writing alongside artists, subjects and schoolmasters, all with a capable hunger for learning, got to be known as the scholarly development the humanists. They rediscovered Greek and Latin messages and started to show Latin writing. The artist, history specialist and savant, Francesco Petrarch (1304 1374) was one of the main lights of the development. The lessons of traditional vestige, Greek and Roman figure, design and writing did not surface again until the begin of the Renaissance in Italy. The beginnings of the Italian Renaissance fixated on Tuscany and on Florence specifically. The Italians of the period viewed themselves as to be living in a brilliant age, better than anything subsequent to the fall of the roman realm a thousand years prior, with ... • 5. Example Of Masculinity In Beowulf Beowulf is an Old English poem written somewhere between the eighth century and the tenth century; the culture of Germanic times is depicted through varying concepts of masculinity that not only describes their capability as a warrior, but also their aptitude as a leader. Beowulf shows of a demon named Grendel attacking Heorot, and the king, Hrothgar, calls Beowulf, a warrior, for help with the slaying of Grendel. Characteristics and qualities of leadership are directly linked to the masculinity of the characters within Beowulf. The leaders in the prologue are demonstrated with the aspects of masculinity through their strength and brutality. In Beowulf, a man demonstrates his essential worth through evidence of masculinity as seen in Unferth s cowardice, Beowulf s heroism, and Wiglaf s bravery. Unferth is considered less of a man because he is more intelligent than masculine. He may be intelligent, but he is neither a strong warrior nor a brave one. Beowulf recalls that fact that Unferth has been a warrior for Hrothgar the entire time that Grendel has been attacking, and he has done nothing towards defeating the monster. Beowulf states, Now I cannot recall / any fight you entered, Unferth, / that bears comparison. (lines 582 84) Unferth may have been an intelligent man, but his lack of a high degree of masculinity causes his worth to be lower than that of Beowulf or any other brave warrior. Unferth s inability to kill Grendel causes Hrothgar and the other warriors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Followers, Fans And Fever Pitch Looking at football from a perspective other than just the physical aspect of the game is such an interesting topic because you can truly begin to see how the game has changed socially and economically. The rules itself have stayed the same for many years, but the social aspect of the game has changed dramatically. As I will talk about, in my opinion, there are fewer fans that have a true connection with their club which relates to both of this weeks readings: Supporters, Followers, Fans and Fever Pitch. Connecting Supporters, Followers, Fans and Flaneurs by Richard Guilianotti and Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby, it is clear to understand what type of fan Hornby was according to Guilianotti. Hornby clearly displays a strong passion for his club, Arsenal, and based off the stories that he tells he would be classified as a supporter. A supporter has a long term personal and emotional investment in the club which results in a strong passion for anything involving their club (Guilianotti 33). I thought how the three pieces of writing connected were interesting because it seems to me today that in today s world you do not hear about people that are so strongly passionate about clubs and teams anymore like Hornby. But why? In my perspective there may be a multitude of reasons which include football not being as popular here in the United States and that football appears to be so socially based compared to what it used to be. Throughout Hornby s book Fever Pitch I constantly got ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Violence In Schools When it comes to violence in schools, it s nothing new. Every day, the news media covers a story over violence happening in school. My views over violence in school is there needs to be better protection. The safety in schools is important because the kids in school is our future. They are our future engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc., and if they don t have the protection they need, the kids in school can t learn. A couple suggestions to make the schools safer are practice the A.L.I.C.E. more than once, go over what to do when an intruder is in the building, and how to protect themselves and the people around them. A way for the schools to be safer is to practice the A.L.I.C.E. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate (Eells). It s effective to practice it because the kids and teachers have a chance to practice how to protect themselves during a real life events. School intruder situations can last anywhere between five to seven minutes (Eells). When the school is alerted that they are on lockdown, teachers are advised to use plain and simple language. They are advised to use plain and simple language because it won t confuse the children and they can escape quicker. If the class can t escape through the windows or through the doors, the school urges them to barricade and lockdown the classroom. • 9. Richard III Disappearance The fate of the Princes in the Tower has baffled historians and laymen alike for over half a millennium. Despite centuries of investigations, this deeply shrouded mystery continues to produce more questions than answers. Was the young boy king and his brother murdered on the orders of their nefarious uncle, Richard III? Or were the members of the rival house the Lancasters responsible for this heinous crime? In my paper, I will examine the facts and events leading up to the boys supposed disappearance. By reconstructing this chain of events, I intend to prove that the princes uncle, Richard III, had the boys killed to insure his own claim to the throne. Because of Richard s position as king, it is improbable that the princes could be murdered without his knowledge. In her book The Princes in the Tower (1992), Alison Weir wrote: When, on 8th September, he walked hand in hand with his son and his wife into York Minister for Edward s [his son] investiture as Prince of Wales, the King did so in belief that he had removed the last dynastic threat to his throne and to put an end once and for all to the conspiracies that had over shadowed his reign (pg. 162) Nevertheless, Richard s reign was plagued with rumors and allegations of nepoticide. We woke up early that morning to get ready for the exciting day ahead of us. We bundled up in many layers of clothes and made some cofee for my Dad. We then set off to the blind before the trophies come out. As I was walking to the blind I could see my breath. As the sun set over the leafless trees, we began to start hearing some life throughout the woods. Although the movement we have heard has not been the trophy we have been looking for it just keeps my heart pumping. We have probably been in the blind for about 5 hours so we decided to go grab something to eat from the truck when suddenly we heard heavy footsteps right behind our blind which is where the door is. I creeked the door open and what I saw made my heart go a million miles a second. 3 doe stood behind us creeping around. They seemed very sketchy so immediatly we closed the door and waited for them to come around to the front of the blind. The day got so much better knowing that there are deer in this area. Even though they were doe we still had the thought in our mind that a trophy buck might just pass through here looking for a mate. We watched the deer walk about 30 yards in front of us for about 20 miniutes but by that time i was ready for a buck to come through here. For example, when bear cubs are separated from their mothers, they make crying calls. Low guttural noises can be indications of a bear being apprehensive, and clicking the teeth together is an indication of aggressiveness. Bears often communicate visually with each other by the way in which they move or behave in the presence of other bears; for example, the behavior of a bear can convey either dominant or subordinate status to another. To indicate subordinate status, a bear moves away, or sits or lies down. To convey dominance, a bear walks or runs towards a rival. The Importance Of The Hardest Working Students In College The issue that I am prevailing is that college students are some of the hardest working people in todays society, we are dedicated to achieve our goals to have a great future ahead of us. When a student says there are busy, that most likely means that they do indeed have a good amount of school work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is Researchers have worked out which majors work the hardest in college (The Tab). The hardest working major according to this article is architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the classroom. The World Is Too Much With Us Meaning The Search for Happiness In the poem The World is Too Much With Us, Wordsworth implies that to find true happiness one must disconnect himself from the corrupted world; in fact, Wordsworth goes so far as to say true salvation lies in a reconnection to nature. Wordsworth speaks throughout the work about the discontinuity of modern society with nature in it s never ending search for a distraction. An analysis of the work allows the reader a reflection on themselves and their own happiness and connection to nature, and what they would be willing to give up for that connection. An example of Wordsworth s belief that modern society has become disconnected with nature and is corrupt, is in the diction that he uses. Throughout the piece, the author states many of the ways in which the people have become disconnected with true meaning such as, getting and spending, we lay waste our powers, and we are out of tune [with nature], (Wordsworth 2,8). Deep ecology is more meditative and goes beyond the factual scientific level, to the level of self and Earth wisdom. It goes beyond a shallow approach to environmental problems. Ecological consciousness and deep ecology contrast the technocratic industrial societies that isolate humans from nature. Over time Western culture has been obsessed with dominance. Humans over non humans, masculinity over femininity, wealthy over poor, western over non western cultures. Cahokia And Monte Alban Small communities in southern Mesopotamia evolved to one of the earliest states due to environmental changes that occurred between the Ubaid and Uruk periods. These environmental changes such as the creation of Arabo Persian Gulf increased population in certain regions, which in turn increased competition, warfare, and optimal settings for trade. All this lead to some of the earliest states being formed in Southern Mesopotamia. Cahokia and Monte Alban are two examples of primary states that were formed in Mesoamerica due to their competition level. Monte Alban used strategic warfare tactics to get control over regions that were rich in resources in order to do create a sustainable state. On the other hand because of Cahokia s lack of control over distant regions, their state destructed in a very short time period, concluding that competition was the main reason for early state formation. When he turned to see who was speaking he saw a graphic view of seven candlesticks with a man standing amid them. The display of seven candlesticks and the One in the middle of them was significant to the totality of the vision that John received to be written down for an everlasting record of the things that must certainly come to pass for all believers. While sitting outside of the courtroom on the day of Tom Robinson s trial, Mr. Raymond explains to Scout that, Secretly, Miss Finch, I m not much of a drinker, but you see they could never, never understand that I live like I do because that s the way I want to live (200 201). Mr. Raymond knows that the citizens could never accept that he has fallen in love with a black woman, and so he hides the true reason that he is married to her so that he won t be treated unfairly. Mr. Raymond does this because he is afraid, and so he conforms to the social norm even though he doesn t agree with it. Similarly to how Mr. Raymond lies about his life style, mayella Ewell lies about what truly happened between her and Tom Robinson in order to avoid being seen differently by the community. During Tom Robinson s testimony, it becomes apparent that Mayella lied during her testimony about what happened on the day that she claims she was raped. Describe The Top Three Reasons You Have Chosen 500 word Describe the top three reasons you have chosen osteopathic medicine as your professional choice in becoming a physician (Please use your own description and not one that widely describes the profession). While enrolled in Existence and Reality, a course offered at Allan Hancock College, I was tasked to reflect on my beliefs concerning the seven most prevailing philosophical questions; what is life, what is death, is there a God, is there life after death, why is there so much evil and suffering in the world, and what is the good life? Due to my religious beliefs, I am certain that there is a God, but when talking about the concept of life, I found myself questioning what my purpose was. I have always had a calling to help ... It was not until my father, who is an Osteopathic physician, was performing manipulation on me did we begin to diagnose the potential causes. The issue was muscle imbalance and limited flexibility in certain areas of my body that was shifting majority of my weight onto my knees while performing certain movements. This went unnoticed by physicians because while performing examinations the scope was concentrated on the immediate areas around my knee. With the knowledge I obtained through manipulation I have been able to treat my knee ailments by strengthening and lengthening muscles throughout my body. Having this experience helped solidify that if I am to be the physician I aspire to be, it is imperative to be trained in this form of medicine. Professionalism and the ability to gain respect in the community in which you live is of utmost importance as you embark upon a career as a physician. Compare And Contrast Napoleon Bonaparte And Sundiata Napoleon and Sundiata Two leaders, both prominent in their own respect, Napoleon Bonaparte, and the legendary Sundiata, were important figures in their time. Napoleon, who helped restore France to a superpower, and perhaps the only time in history France could be considered a world power, or at least a country that is successful in war, led the French Army to many victories until the fateful and historic Battle of Waterloo, in which he suffered a defeat that he never fully recovered from. Sundiata, born a cripple, and deemed unfit for anything but a life of mediocrity by his peers, became a great warrior, a great leader, through his determination and wit, and through his spite for those who shamed his weaknesses and failed to see his potential. However, there are a few key differences that I will mention further into this paper. Sundiata Keita, more often called Sundiata, was born in Niani, Guinea, in 1190. He was born into the royal family, the rulers of Mandinka (present day Guinea), was labeled as crippled by those around him because he could not walk, and was very physically inept until around the age of ten. • 34. Maternal Mortality And Death Of A Pregnant Woman Essay Introduction Maternal mortality/death is defined as the death of a pregnant woman by causes related to the pregnancy or its management, or death of a post partum mother within 42 days after pregnancy termination (Requejo, Bryce, Victora, Deixel, 2013; Ronsmans, Graham, group, 2006; Say et al., 2014). There are proposals to change this definition to make it include one year post partum death of mothers, as the risk of death has been shown to remain high half a year post partum (Ronsmans et al., 2006). Many maternal deaths that occur usually occur in low and middle income countries. In the year 2010, 287, 000 maternal deaths that were avoidable occurred, and most occurred in these developing countries. Reduction of maternal deaths has been one of the outcomes that have been targeted in the efforts to improve maternal health for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Say et al., 2014). In developing countries, especially Sub Saharan Africa, where fertility levels remain high, maternal deaths have continued to be high despite the general deaths reduction (Requejo et al., 2013). Many argue that there is not enough information to confidently describe and quantify this problem, but Requejo et al., 2013 reported that the available information is sufficient. • 37. Carl Sandburg And The American Dream The American Dream is a well known concept and idea that many immigrants and Americans strived for in order to become successful. Unlike most countries where rising from rags to riches was highly uncommon and a hopeless dream, America was a place for people to work hard and achieve their dreams. Carl Sandburg was a very influential poet who came from very humble beginnings under immigrant parents who had moved to America. He believed in an ordered society where people could strive and accomplish what they chose without being influenced by the majority of the country. To achieve the American Dream, Sandburg had to travel across the States, overcome challenging experiences, such as searching for newspapers to work for, keeping a job, and dealing with the death of his daughter Madeline. His American Dream of becoming a successful poet, journalist, and goal of leaving a lasting legacy only became reality after many years of hard work and perseverance. To begin, there are not many people who can say that their childhood started with joining the army, later living on the streets, and working a variety of jobs. Due to these circumstances, Sandburg had many goals and even more ideals he wished to share to the world. As a youth, he lived a difficult life, as he quit school in 8th grade and was always busy working to help his family by delivering milk, collecting ice, laying bricks, and more, before becoming a hobo in 1897 (Barr 1). He demonstrates God s existence by the observation that each thing in the universe that moves, is moved by something else. Nothing can be at once in both actuality and responsibility in the same way. From a series of movers, it must have begun with a prime mover. Second way: Argument from efficient cause. For example Elie Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is serious and mature. In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration camps or the Nazis. His use of fire also helps show his purpose. This is where hanging here from this gallows... that night the soup tasted like corpses (page 65). Here Wiesel had two very different opinions on the soup. The way he described the soup in the first quote showed he was hungry and happy although once he realized the truth everything changed. He soon found the soup to be repulsing and he wanted nothing to do with it. For example when he says the soup tasted like corpses he means that they did not feel the satisfaction of eating because they just witnessed a horrific occurrence. This helps with tone because the reader can tell how quickly his tone went downhill. Last but not least is the sense of smell which Wiesel used throughout the book by explaining the burners and crematories. In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been around midnight. We had arrived. In Birkenau (28, Wiesel). Along with the smell Wiesel had witnessed and heard awful events that took place in the burners. Over there. Do you see the chimney over there? Do you see it? And the flames, do you see them? (Yes, we saw the flames.) Over there, that s where they will take you. Over there will be your grave.
