New York City Draft Riots
On July 13, 1863, the streets of New York City were ablaze. People ran rampant without a care of the
well being of anyone else; mutilating bodies, robbing people, and setting buildings on fire. Children
were rushed to safety from the bloodthirsty mobs. These were the New York City Draft Riots of 1863,
and colored and rich people weren t safe from the protests that the poor and working class had against
the highly controversial draft (Bernstein 34). These violent riots had to be stopped, and someone had
to come up with an idea to put the crowds at rest. The New York City Draft Riots of 1863 were
stopped when the Union government decided to compromise by stopping the draft and not receiving
more troops for the civil war.
The Draft Riots began on July 13 of 1863 and lasted for five days (Amato and Meisel). The civil war
was taking place and the Battle of Gettysburg was ending. Hopes for a Union victory were
skyrocketing like never before and the brave soldiers were heading home. Slavery also seemed to only
be a temporary thing, with so many African Americans arriving free into the north (Lighthizer). Many
things had gone wrong in the past, including battles and race issues. The future seemed so bright for
nearly everyone in New York City, and something seemed so clear; things were finally getting better
for so many people. Unfortunately for the happy people, it wouldn t remain that way for long.
Racism, fuelled by anger, during that time was at a towering peak. African

Feminist Revolution Susan B Anthony
The word feminist can be though of in many ways. Some people can hear the word in a positive way,
and think of it as a woman standing up for her gender s rights. Other people can think of it in a
negative way, as a woman who is too high strung and opinionated. The word feminist is actually a
female who has opinions on the way her sex is treated. Modern feminism will be discussed, along with
using some examples such as Susan B. Anthony.
As to the history of feminism, the beginning will be with what is called the Feminist Revolution
(Rappaport 28). This revolution began in 1837 in New York. Women banded together for the first time
at an anti slavery convention. These women were considered abolitionists after being ... Show more

Abigail Adams, in March of 1776 (Weisberg, preface). Her statement was in a letter to her husband
about writing the Constitution. John Adams was then a delegate to the Continental Congress. Abigail
Adams statement was as follows:
Remember the ladies. Be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such
limited power in the hands of the husbands. If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we
are determined to foment a rebellion and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have
no voice or representation. This statement was the motto and main motive of what was to come in the
future.
Susan B. Anthony s influences came from her family, friends, and acquaintances. Starting with her
family, are her parents. Her father, a Quaker, courted Susan s mother, a Baptist (Weisberg 23). The
unorthodox match was opposed, but the two married anyway. Mrs. Anthony switched faith to become
a Quaker. She gave up all the worldly pleasures endowed to her like singing, dancing, and stylish
clothes. Susan s mother was Lucy Read, and her father was Daniel Anthony. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony
were married in 1817. Over the next sixteen years, the pair would bear eight children, of which six
lived. The children were Guelma, Susan, Hannah, Daniel, Mary, Eliza, and Merritt. Ann Eliza, born
between Mary and Merritt died in infancy in 1833.
Ms. Anthony moved several times. Some of these times were

How Cryptography Is Defined As A Major Factor During Wars,...
The Ignominious Tribe, the worlds second oldest profession, these are both describing the same thing,
the mysterious profession that lives in the shadows of history. Espionage. Governments fear it, yet it is
always a major factor during wars, and it isn t very well known by the general public. Men and
women throughout history who have fought in secret positions during wars, often placed into positions
of great danger. Why were they willing to risk so much for their countries? Profit? Honor?
Adrenaline? There are many aspects of the art of espionage, from the necessary grunt work of field
agents to the solid determination of cryptologists. Cryptography is defined as the art of writing and
solving codes, a necessary practice for all sides involved in any major battle or power struggle, an
example being World War II, where coding and cipher script were integral parts of the conflict, main
factors of every win or loss. Without cryptography, some estimate that the war would have lasted at
least two years longer than it did, thus proving the necessary function of cryptography. In the
following pages, the reader will learn a brief history of the evolution of cryptography, and how it was
important in such major recent struggles as WWII. This form of espionage has been an integral part of
history.
Espionage has been recognized as an important part of all military affairs since the beginnings of
recorded history. It began with, and still heavily relies upon, the various forms of

The Creation of Gods
The Creation of Gods
To every mythology, there has to be a beginning. Mythology is stories that can bring that hero look to
kids or even adults. The story of the gods, even the leader or the strongest god has a weakness, also
every god has a father and a mother that created them. Nobody, knows how they were created, but that
is why this essay, or story was created. Zeus was born by the titans Cronus and Rhea. Cronus was
evilly known for being a very jealous and greedy person. Cronus feared that one of his children could
take his crown and throne, Cronus had eaten every child born Rhea was giving birth to. However,
Rhea gave birth to her last boy, Zeus. Rhea managed to trick Cronus with the help of Uranus and
Gaea. She put together a fake baby with a rock in a pile of clothes to swallow, and sent Zeus away to
the Greek island of Crete. Curetes a special demon made noise by hitting his shields, so that Cronus
would to not hear the crying baby.
Zeus was raised secretly by Nymphs and was fed with honey and milk from the goat women
Amaltheia with the help of her broken horn. When Zeus was old enough to claim the Kingdom of the
World and he started a war against Cronus and the Titans. First, Zeus managed to rescue his older
brothers and sisters from his father s stomach by giving him a special medicine and making him throw
up his children. ( Greek Mythology. ).

Housekeeping Department Of The Hotel
Introduction
To begin with, primarily a guest s overall impression of the hotel is entirely dependent on the
cleanliness of the hotel and housekeeping department plays a vital role in providing an exceptional
experience to its guests. Therefore housekeeping department in the hotel is considered to be the heart
of the hotel. The house keeping department plays an important role in attracting the customers by
keeping the hotel clean, attractive, comfortable and welcoming surroundings which will help in
determining whether the guest is happy with the service provided to them.
Apart from cleaning the guest rooms, housekeeping department is also responsible for cleaning the
other areas of the hotel that are accessible to the guests especially when cleanliness and hygiene have
become an important criteria for the guests to make a selection of the hotel for their stay. In other
words finding a home away from home.
For the smooth functioning of the housekeeping department, housekeeping staff plays a very crucial
role as they are the ones who are face of the hotel for the customers. Housekeeping staff is not only
responsible for performing cleaning duties but having proper coordination with the other department
such as front office is very important to determine the required timeline the rooms need to be ready for
the guests. A good housekeeping staff is who is able to deal with customers expectations and at the

Nurture The Reason It Has The Most Influence On Humans
Nurture the reason it has the most influence on a humans up bringing Humans are programmed to
carry out physical, mental and emotional developments, but what has the most influence on a human
upbringing and what shapes humans behaviour? Is is nurture which is the environment that we are
raised/socialization and our culture. Nurture the positive encouragement, from a parent or caregiver
towards the physical, mental and behavioural development of a individual. Or is nature your
biological factor/genes that a human obtain from their mother and father. As we go through life we go
through different developmental stages from infancy, adolescence/teenager through to adulthood.
Humans depend on the nurturing from our caregivers, and social groups to help us achieve our
developmental stages successfully, and contributes to a human behaviour. This why i feel that
nurturing has the most influence on a humans upbringing. Humans depend on the nurturing from
parents/caregivers to teach them independence, confidence, to have good self esteem and positive
behaviour. Humans learn through experience by what we see, hear and are taught though our culture
and our environment. Not every human in the world are raised the same, this makes everyone develop
and behave in different ways.. Not one human is the same. Nurturing help influence humans and the
way they behave and act towards other. This contributes to how human behaviour is shaped. Erik

Introduction. How Alike Are Great Britain And France’S
Introduction
How alike are Great Britain and France s political systems to one another? The British system has had
a lot of gradual steady changes throughout the years. While, the French political model has had more
dramatic radical changes, until about 1958. In 1958 Charles de Gaulle changed the constitution and set
the precedent for the modern semi presidential system that we see today. In this paper, I will be
comparing both systems to one another and point out their huge similarities.
Great Britain
The United Kingdom has a Westminster Model which is a democratic constitutional monarchy. The
United Kingdom has a constitution that is unwritten that consists of having conventions along with
statutory law and common law, which make up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A vote of no confidence can be called if any government sponsored bill is defeated in the Commons. If
the vote of no confidence is passed, the Prime Minister must either resign, or ask the monarch to
dissolve parliament, and call a general election. Basically, since a government usually holds a majority
in the Commons, and party whips try to ensure that party members support the government,
governments are likely to win all but the most controversial votes. However, if a government doesn t
have a large majority, then it can bring backbench members of parliament into line, and call three line
whips; votes that are compulsory for members of parliaments to attend.
PARLIAMENT The Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the
supreme legislative institution in the United Kingdom and British Overseas Territories (it alone has
parliamentary sovereignty). It consists of a head of state (currently Queen Elizabeth II), a bicameral
system with an upper house; House of Lords and the lower house which is the House of Commons. It
also includes an Upper House, called the House of Lords, and a Lower House, called the House of
Commons. The House of Lords is an almost a fully appointed body. The House of Commons, on the
other hand, is a democratically elected chamber. The House of Lords and the House of Commons meet
in separate chambers in the Palace of Westminster (the Houses of Parliament), in central London. The

The Wilmington Race Riot
Currently, there has been a major event occurring in the town of Wilmington, North Carolina between
citizens of many races, and many political parties, including the Republican Party, Democratic Party,
and the Populist Party. These parties had different political and racial views on government policies,
and who should rule. Wilmington is a strong religious community, and is the center of African
American political and economic success.
After the end of the Civil War, laws allowed blacks to get an education and were able to manage their
own businesses. Since the government created laws that allowed blacks to vote, there has been some
controversy between whites and blacks. A major event occurred called the Fusion Coalition. When it
was time to vote, people fused their voters and hoped to defeat the Democratic Party by doing this.
Propaganda and media is put up all over town to intimidate people and make people believe certain
things, based on what type of propaganda it is. People have started to fall for these propaganda
posters, and it causes people to believe whatever they see. This sparked the current Race Riot because
it actually led people to believe that blacks are bad and that they should not have a say.

Individual Sense Of Coherence
The current study elaborates on the experiment conducted by Sansgiry and Kavita (2006) by seeking
to identify if an individuals sense of coherence and coping mechanisms are predictors of testing
anxiety amongst college students. Sense of coherence is considered to be a key faculty contained with
an individual s personality, which responds to a stressful event. Furthermore, an increased sense of
coherence allows an individual to effectively cope with negative events or outcomes. Participants for
this study were given questionnaires prior to the final exam of the school year, which measured their
anxiety levels. Researchers for the experiment compared their anxiety levels with their final test
scores. The outcome of the experiment indicates that students who utilize emotions to cope with
stressful situations had a lower sense of coherence. Alternatively, those with higher sense of ... Show

Results of the study indicated that individuals who had higher test anxiety prior to the start of the

anxiety levels who were given a traditional fixed item test faired similarly to their low test anxiety
counterparts. One potential limitation of the experiment is that the results did not take into account the

Buddha And Buddha Symbolism
These two seated Buddha represent the meaning and the embodiment of Buddha. Both of these
sculptures convey Buddha and represent key aspects of Buddhism, but these two sculpture do not
convey and represent the symbolism entirely of what Buddha is in other art pieces. Rock cut stone
sculpture of Buddha is represented in a peaceful nature as he gives the first sermon, the sun, the lotus
flower, the knot on his head, the elongated earlobes, the slightly closed eyes and cherubs up above are
common symbols that represent Buddha. Where the Grand Buddha at Ling Shan is an 88 metre tall

Compared to the Grand Buddha his clothing is more apparent and easier to tell he s wearing clothing.
His clothing appears to be draping over him like a curtain or expensive piece of fabric. Unlike the
Sermon Buddha clothing that appears wet and sticking to his skin of his body. Another noun common
similarities these two Buddha s have in common is that the Grand Buddha lack a lot of key aspects
and important symbols. The Grand Buddha lacks the hand gesture that represents him counting the
eightfold eight, the circular disc in the background representing the sun, the wheel of law, and lions to
represent the royalty of the Buddha. Where the Preaching Buddha showcases all those things and then
some. Another dis common similarities between these two would be that fact where these art works
are positioned and where they are held. The grand Buddha is placed in a park and purpose is intended
to draw people there for a tourist attraction versus being used as an idle to pray upon or leave
offerings. Where the Preaching Buddha is placed in a temple and intended purpose for this artwork is
to be gazed upon believer, be preyed upon and left offerings. Not to be used to attract tourist, but be

How Did Industrialization Affect The Lives Of Workers
Since the 19th century, industrialization has had positive and negative effects on the lives of workers.
Industrialization is defined as the large scale introduction of manufacturing, and other productive
economic activity into an area, society, country, etc. Industrialization changed the lives of workers in
the nation. The industrial revolution was a turning point in history as it gave new insights to many new
advancements. However, the improvements caused many negative occurrences to happen and it was
not until such came about that serious revision had to begin. During the industrial revolution
numerous technological, and cultural advancements took place. These positive outcomes come at the

The new revision to the class structure was positive because people started making more money. This
was because there were new laws that forced the owners of the factories to pay their workers
minimum wage. Although they were making a little bit more money there were many negative effects
on women and children. Women had gone from housewives to the hardworking woman who honestly
risked their lives in these horrible factories. The women were in danger more than men because while
working in the factory they had long skirts that could easily get stuck in the machinery. They also got
the same treatment and weren t allowed any breaks. Women were punished as well if they got tired
and weren t doing their work efficiently. The women were not with their families as often because
they had to work all day and by the time they got home it was too late at night. Unfortunately, children
work also as young of the age of six years old. Children were paid unfairly and usually were made to
do the dirty work. Working at these disgusting factories many children as well as adults caught
diseases and were malnourished.
In conclusion, the Industrial Revolution had a major impact on the society back then and had lead to
things we use today in the modern era. The industrial revolution was a time of progress. The
inventions being manufactured allowed people to prosper, while at the same time put people in
poverty. The chaos between

Solution For The Problem Solution
Problem Solution
The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the
toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine.
The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because
30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do!
Conclusion
Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to
the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental
floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there
was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly
removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from
going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we
could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some
possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be
extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the
floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having

Grass Roots Activism Analysis
According to an article title Grass Roots Activism by Garry Crystal, grass root activism is a group of
people who feel strongly enough about an issue to actively make a difference . These groups of people
are not involved in political parties; they just want change as a result of their contribution. According
to dictionary.com astroturfing is, a PR tactic used in politics and advertising in which actors are paid
to display overt and apparently spontaneous grassroots support for a particular product, policy, or

Barack Obama s The Audacity Of Hope
On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama arguably made his greatest speech, The Audacity of Hope , at the
Democratic National Convention Keynote Address. All the way through his piece, Obama focuses on
connecting himself to Americans. However, Barack Obama was a US Senate candidate for the United
States president, and in making this speech, uses this connection to raise his reputation rather than to
simply amuse the audience. Throughout The Audacity of Hope speech, Barack Obama implements
three main devices to raise his political popularity: abstract language, repetition, and structure. Part of
The Audacity of Hope is Obama s use of abstract words, which help to associate the piece to everyone
s individual view of these words. In other words, since abstract words have no explicit definitions, the
words fit to the person who defines them. Obama states, John Kerry believes in the Constitutional
freedoms that have made our country the envy of the world, and he will never sacrifice our basic
liberties, nor use faith as a wedge to divide us. In this sentence, Obama uses the words freedoms ,
sacrifice , liberties , and faith to describe John Kerry and what he does. By using these abstract words,
Obama creates a perfect American image, one that stands for everything America stands for. This is
powerful. By comparing a person to a highly symbolic figure, such as the United States, Obama
invokes high emotions among the audience, or the pathos of the piece, which he then puts onto

Analysis Of Doublespeak By William Lutz
language. Lutz begins the persuasive essay with a sarcastic tone. He distinguishes the use of
doublespeak with quotation marks. He starts off each sentence without the use of doublespeak and
ends with how doublespeak perceives the situation to be rather than the reality. Lutz states, The
Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s
fees. (Lutz line 1 3) He shows how taxes was changed to something different in order to mislead the
public. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different
situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz
continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He
states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its
real or purported meaning. (Lutz line10 11) This shows that it is at a whole other level that has to be
deciphered to be able to understand and also suggests that can be difficult to capture. Lutz also uses
repetition to give the definition. He states, It is the incongruity between the word and referent,
between seem and be, between the essential function of language... (Lutz line 15 16) This emphasizes
the length of the effect doublespeak can have. Lutz begins to structure his essay into subsections to
further explain doublespeak. The first subsection focuses on How to Spot Doublespeak. He

In the book, The Sound of Letting Go, Ward illustrates the average stress on a normal teenager s life

Presidents Of The United States
There have been forty four Presidents of the United States and most people can only name a few. One
of the lesser known presidents is known as John Quincy Adams who was President from March 4,
1825 to March 4, 1829. His fame may have been enriched by the fact that he was the first son of a
president to become president. Quincy as he was called to avoid any confusion with his father John
Adams, was one of the most qualified people to ever be elected into the White House. His six years
(one term) in office saw both success and failure. John Quincy Adams as Secretary of State had quite a
few successes, but also had several failures as President; however, his Presidency led to the most
successful post Presidency in the history of the United States.
Quincy was the second eldest child in the Quincy household and was the oldest son of John and
Abigail Adams, born on July 11, 1767 in Braintree, today known as Quincy, Massachusetts. When
John Quincy Adams was a young man he seemed to spend most of his time accompanying his father
everywhere he went, which included traveling overseas. Adams even accompanied his father through
his mission through Europe for most of his teenage years. During the time Quincy was in Europe he
had learned and become fluent in several different languages. He wasn t around often enough to go to
school but when he did he attended a school that was considered private, which was outside of Paris
called the Latin School of Amsterdam, and Leyden University.

The match that was able to ignite and unite the people of Egypt to act on their dislike of the regime

Gymnastics was a big part of my life and I was very excited when I got my first complicated skill it
had taken me about 2 years to get the skill. It was Saturday and my day started off by eating some
breakfast, my mom had made pancakes and bacon and they were delicious. I finished off my breakfast
and my dad told me to go get ready because we were going to run some errands and so I did, I picked
out this red shirt with free shoulder it was kind of big on me so, it looked like a dress but I liked it that
way, to go with the long red shirt. I picked out some black tights because they seemed comfy. On my
hair, I did a half up half down with a bun at the top and I got my favorite brown sandals and put them
on. Before my family left I had to do my bed, because my dad said, if I kept my room clean all year I
would be able to get a new phone, I cleaned my bed and rushed out the door. When my family and I

Capitalism for The Better, Socialism for The Worse...
Capitalism for The Better, Socialism for The Worse
Failing or profitable government? There are various types of economies in the the world, of the
various types they can be narrowed down to the two most common which are capitalist and socialist
economies. Capitalism is a way of organizing an economy so that the things that are used to make and
transport products are owned by individual people and companies rather than by the government
(Merriam Webster). Socialism is a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned
and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies (Merriam Webster).

In the state lead economy, the government owns the means of production, but the organization is ran
by capitalists methods. Capitalism promotes competition in the economy which has positive
outcomes. Competition generates higher quality products and more effective techniques in businesses.
Competition is the only reason the government plays a role in capitalism, and that role is protection
from fraud and force. The only purpose of government would be to protect its citizens from force or
fraud (Reisman, George).
Socialism is considered the weak; less effective form of economy. By failing to emphasize incentives,
socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail (Mark Perry,
1995). It is the type of organization that involves the government owning and controlling the major
industries and prosperous companies in the country. The fact that socialism disregards private property
rights in establishing incentives for economic development and growth is another reason why
socialism fails. Socialism robs citizens of their human rights to private property, but it does grant the
right to an education, to work, and free health care and transportation. Unlike capitalism that is based
on supply and demand, in a socialist economy, the government regulates the quantity of products
produced and distributed. The government also

Differences Between Troy And The Iliad
As the last scene of movie Troy fades, we see the words inspired by Homer s The Iliad . There is no
doubt that the Iliad is one of the greatest poems of all time and, therefore, it has inspired multiple
works of art over almost three thousand years of its existence. One of these works is the film Troy,
which attempts to make an adaptation that reflects the Greek culture and appeals to the modern
audience at the same time. In this essay Troy will be compared with the Iliad through examination of
time spans, intended audiences, portrayals of Helen, Achilles and Hector, main themes of both sources
and conveyed messages.
One significant difference between the Iliad and Troy is the timespan. The Iliad is not a story of a
Trojan war, but a story of a hero s wrath. The time span it covers is only a few weeks in the tenth year
of the siege of Troy. Homer chooses to focus on events that occurred during a quarrel of King
Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, and Achilles, the most powerful warrior of
the Achaean army. Homer doesn t go into detail about other events and battles, as the story of the
Trojan War was well known to the Greek society because it has been told and retold by bards for
numerous times and the general plot was still fresh in the minds of the Greeks. For his poem to stand
out, Homer had to be original, so he didn t tell his audience about the war as a whole, but rather
spotlighted the wrath of an individual hero, Achilles. Troy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Troy s Helen is depicted as a classically beautiful woman, extremely slender, with blonde hair and fair

Social Security a Challenge to Public Finance
The 1935 Franklin D. Roosevelt created the foundation for what today is Social Security. The bill
entitled the Economic Security Bill and was the starting point for Social security. (ssa.gov) Social
Security was enacted as part of the New Deal. Its purpose was to provide a safety net for the elderly
and their direct survivors, as well, temporary unemployment benefits. The funding was a compulsory
taxation of the employed workforce in shared responsibility with the employers (Hyman 2010 p. 312).
The legislation was clear on the system design during the time of creation. Pensions were funded
through tax payrolls, a separate tax for health insurance and finally the tax paid by the employers was
allocated to unemployment benefits.
The term public finance as defined is the spending by the government and methods required to pay for
spending (investorwords.com). Specifically, taxation and borrowing and the affect they have on the
overall budget. Social Security in the early years was considered a pension system of annuity monthly
payments. In1940, the ratio of workers to beneficiaries was 159.4. The average beneficiary had 159
individuals working to fund their annuity payments. In 2010 that number has depleted to 2.9 or for
every retiree, we have 2.9 employed individuals paying for 1 retiree or disabled individual (ssa.gov).
The social security system was not originally set up to be good deal for current and future workers
(Mariger, 1999). As shown by the current ratio, Social

I Should Start My Story At The End Of A Mystery
suppose I should start my story at the beginning. I mean, it wouldn t make sense to start it at the end or
in the middle, now would it? It s like if you turn the TV on right at the end of a mystery show and you
learn who the killer is. Well, you re not going to wait around till that episode plays again to see the
beginning. You already know who the killer is, so it s not a mystery anymore! No point at all.
Anyways, I ll just start at the beginning, which just happens to be when I was out in the woods one
day, looking for something to eat. I spotted a few lousy rabbits and squirrels, but I just didn t feel like
chasing them. You have to feel like chasing something to chase it, and I just didn t feel like it. I really
didn t. I was really hungry though. My stomach was growlin and all. It was about that time that I
caught a whiff of something in the air. Something like cinnamon. I followed it, using my incredible
sense of smell and all, until I came upon a girl wearing a red cloak, walking on a path through the
woods. She had stopped and was picking the small green flowers on the side of the path. Sitting
besides her was a basket that was practically overflowing with marvelous smells. My stomach
growled again. I patted down my grey fur and smelled my breath by breathing into my paw and
sniffing. I tied up the side flaps on my red hunting hat that had holes cut in it for my ears to poke
through. After picking a few more leaves from my fur, I deemed myself worthy to

Immigrants As A Better Life For Their Future
All people are diverse and come from many backgrounds. Most people settled here in America as an
immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came
here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they can
be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation there
was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status.
They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of their
backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar whether they want to admit
it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes and treated
differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it
or not, they ll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. Adapting to
lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always harder for immigrants to unite
with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they judge them as outcasts by what they
eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates. High culture/elites think they are higher
ranking so therefore there is always miscommunication. They think they are way better and wouldn t
want except one another because of status or flaws. In the reading Mother

The Dynamics of Brice Family
Brice Family Dynamics
Presenting Problems Overall, the Brice family has some clear issues that are causing stress for
everyone, including their adolescent daughter Claudia. The family did not believe in the power of
family therapy, yet they had little places to turn to in response to Claudia s growing anger problems.
They had tried therapy before, but to no avail. We are introduced to their problems both from a
description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on. Their son
Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall family
struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet this
explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange ideas, but
that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two seemed to feed off
one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a discrepancy between what
Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and expectations her family was imposing
on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of
view, but too caught up in their own emotional reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don
wasn t present just put more highlight on Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the
problem, not taking responsibility for it themselves. This was felt by

outrage and her voice sort of cracked. It made the whole audience burst into laughter and it was my
favorite part of the play. I remember the look on each of the faces of the characters. Everyone was so
connected and serious, but at the drop of the hat (or shall I say the line) all of the women had
delightful smiles on their faces and their heads were tilted back from laughing. Clairee s body was
uptight and straight as a board and she stomped her foot as she said the line. After, she still was stick
straight but laughing like the rest of them.
Which actor was compelling to you? And what was the name of the character the actor played? The

Describe 2 moments in the play (one from Act 1 and one from Act 2 or from earlier and later in the

Ashes In The Great Gatsby
The Roaring Twenties was a period in 20th century America in which major cities throughout the
nation would experience significant cultural extravagance and for some, decadence. New York, in
particular, would exemplify this term with its streets filled with people of startling diversity and class,
the bold emergence of the flapper lifestyle in young women, and the sensual swings of Jazz. However,
as a direct result of such excess, all the refuse would be funneled into places like the Corona Ash

John Rowe Townsend once argued that the only practical definition of a children s book is one that
appears on the children s list by a publisher. Contemporary publishers are not making that distinction
any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak s Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture book
for both children and adults, and J. K. Rowling s Harry Potter series is available in adult and children s
versions with the only difference being the book s cover art. While folk and Fairy Tales were not
originally intended for children, they have become a staple of children s literature since the early
nineteenth century. On the other hand, many books written for and widely read by children during the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are considered historical children s literature today and are read
almost exclusively by adult scholars of children s literature. Children s literature has been written,
illustrated, published, marketed, and purchased consistently by adults to be given to children for their
edification and entertainment. Generally speaking, it is the intended audience rather than the producers
of the texts who define the field. Children s texts written by child or adolescent authors, such as Daisy
Ashford s The Young Visiters(1919) or Anne Frank s Het Achterhuis (1947; The Diary of a Young

The Importance Of Performance Arts In Public Schools
After the 2017 campaign, the public school s performing arts programs was ordered to be defunded,

Samuel Popkin on Candidates Running for President and Vice...
During the Roosevelt and Kennedy administrations, political science and policymaking had a close
relationship. However, this has changed in recent years. However, Samuel Popkin argues that they can
still be one in the same. Popkin makes the case that qualities such as character or even a voting record
do not actually affect whether the candidate or not will win the Presidency election. In fact, the team
surrounding the candidate is a much larger, if not the most import variable in determining his fate in
the election. Popkin also speaks of the candidate himself as well as his team saying, Anyone audacious
enough to run must also be agile and resilient, and it is that candidate s assembled team that
determines the level of the candidate s agility and resilience. Popkin goes on to explain important
components of the team, one of them being the chief of staff. He writes that The single most important
part of a successful team is a chief of staff strong enough to be an honest broker, and to beware
because Weak chiefs of staff are the biggest reason campaigns flounder. The chief of staff s ideal,
major responsibility is to act as the gatekeeper to the presidential candidate and to make sure that the
rest of the team is not giving too much advice making it harder to make a decision. A candidate who

The Last Game vs. Reunion Contrast Essay
The Last Game And Reunion Stories of Contrast What is a father? A father is someone who is more
than just a person who created you. A father is a person who should be a mentor to you and helps
guide you through life. What isn t a father is one who simply puts their children aside to live their own
lives and have no part in their children s life and growth. The stories I will be contrasting are The Last
Game, by Jan Weiner and Reunion, by John Cheever. My first reason of contrast is that in Last Game,
the relationship between characters Jan Weiner and his father is that of mutual admiration in which the

I think this reason is important because it shows how a father should and should not present a view of
himself to his child. What this reason means to me is that the picture you paint of yourself makes a
drastic impact on what your child thinks of you. It might have a huge effect on what decisions the
child will make in the future whether positive or negative. Mostly this reason might be what helps the
child build a good morale and self esteem. To further prove my reason I these quotes, from Last
Game, Jan Weiner says, I would have liked to have begged my father no to leave me. But something
in my father s face made me not plead. I knew he was right (p.4) and from Reunion, when character
Charlie says, I felt he was my father, my flesh, my future, and my doom. (p.232) When a person is
aggressive and abusive they might be the one person who s holding their loved ones back while there
are also people that go out of their way to be the type of presence their loved ones need in their lives
to become better people. The second contrasting reason is in Last Game, the son s father is dealing
with political problems in that he s a Jew constantly being chased by Nazi s and had make an

Yucca Plants and Yucca Moths: A Coevolutionary Point of View

BIOL 3700: Evolution
Maxence Salomon
Introduction
According to Thompson (1994), coevolution is defined as the reciprocal evolutionary change in
interacting species . This occurs when one species has a significant effect on the survival or
reproductive success of another species and vice versa, leading to the gradual evolution of both
species. It is important to study this topic, as it is possible that the evolution of a majority of the world
s life forms was affected by the coevolution occurring between plants and insects (Smith et al., 2009).
It is generally accepted that there are three forms in which coevolution can take place ... Show more

Coevolution in this scenario occurs by selection for those organisms from both taxa which possess
trait which allow them to take the best advantage of this mutualism relative to their conspecifics. An
example of this relationship is the plant pollinator interaction between yucca plants and yucca moths.
While the relationship between yucca plants (Family Agavaceae) and yucca moths (Genus Tegeticula
and Parategeticula) can be defined as mutualistic, it is more than an ordinary mutualism (Sheppard
and Oliver, 2002). In a generic mutualistic relationship, both organisms gain fitness benefits from the
interaction, but are not dependent on each other for survival. In the yucca plant yucca moth
interaction, the yucca moth provides essential cross pollination services to the yucca plant, and the
yucca plant provides a predator free location for the yucca moth to lay its eggs, as well as providing
nutrition for the larvae in the form of some of its seeds (Moisett, n.d.). Since the interaction between
these two organisms is necessary for the survival of their species, it is called an obligate mutualism
(Lunau, 2004). The relationship between the yucca plants and yucca moths serves as the theme for the
remainder of this paper.

yucca moth relationship.

Winter Fog Causes And Disadvantages
During the cold winter of Delhi, the 5 year olds smokes on an average 2 packs of cigarettes per day.
This smoking problem is not confined to 5 year olds, but every Delhiite who is exposed to the
hazardous winter fog endures a damage equivalent to 2 packs of cigarettes. Delayed flights and trains,
school closures, black outs, accidents on highways has become a norm during winter in the past 20
years. Apart from the economical losses, a major health impact in the form of a decrease in lung
function and acute respiratory diseases is affecting the 18.6 million citizens of Delhi. Recently, the
Delhi government had declared a public health emergency owing to the poor air quality, which
features often in very poor and severe category, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) consistently
during these winters. The presence of fine particles, indicated by PM 10 and PM 2.5 in AQI,
contributes to the poor quality of the air and is the major cause for fogs. Sources of these fine particles
vary from the emissions from industrial and automobile emissions to the sand particles transported by
global winds. 2 Origins of the winter fog The beginning of winter in Northern India, marked by the
largest festival known as Diwali, is the end of the rice harvesting season. The residue stubble on the
fields at the end of the rice harvesting season doesn t hold any economic value, hence the farmers
resort to burning of 70 80 million tonnes of the stubble. Similarly as the temperatures approach
freezing temperatures, the general public rely more on bio mass burning for heating, warmth and
cooking purposes. Further, the industrial complexes draw more thermally generated electric power and
hence leading to an increase of coal emissions. These aerosols from outside the city gets transported
and adds into the fine particle sizes from the automobile emissions and road dust generated within the
city. And the fine particles serve as sites of condensation, forming misty droplets that doesn t settle.
2A 2020 vision for Delhi Subin Thomas Apart from the sites for condensation, the conditions for the
formation of fog are abundant supply of moisture and the increase of temperature with height. Both of

The Conversion Of Roman Emperor
Nathan Little
HY 103
11/7/2014
Research Paper
The conversion of Roman Emperor, Constantine, marked the start of a reform that would change
Rome forever. A once pagan society, Rome was one of the last to grasp the Christianity concept. The
start of Christianizing Rome began with two of Jesus disciples, Peter and James, as well as the apostle
Paul in the Roman province of Antioch during the first century ( New Women of Color Study Bible
1742). From this, Christianity spread all over the province, by the time it got to Rome it was not
widely practiced. It wasn t until the reign of Constantine that Christianity took its place as the empires
forefront religion. Since Rome was known for its worship and idolizing of gods, how and for what
reasons did Constantine transform his subjects beliefs? According to authors, Ramsay MacMullen,
John Curran, and A.H.M. Jones, a number of tactics were used to sway the masses minds. Use of
coercion, money, and campaigns aided Constantine s questionable Christian cleanse .
During the reign of Constantine, cash was quite a factor in conversion of the people. As described by
Ramsay MacMullen, There [was] also an element familiar only from the time of Constantine s reign
forward: imperial cash gifts, some of them quite gigantic (MacMullen 88). These particular cash gifts
were used mainly for church growth. In order to create a steady base of believers Constantine
permitted the enticement of followers by way of church officials. Just as

African American Human Rights Violations
Human history has been plagued by violations of human rights on the premise of superiority and
entitlement. From the earliest cases 10,000 years ago between Kenyan hunter gatherer tribes in
Nataruk resulting in mass murder to more recent cases involving the Rohingya and Myanmar
nationalists edging towards genocide, the continuing difficulty to resolve human rights violations
highlights its relevance and importance. Despite the atrocities that have filled human history records,
human rights have seen progress in even the most early of civilizations dating back to 539 BC when
Cyrus, King of Persia, outlawed slavery and vouchsafed freedom of religion. Granted that human
rights progress and restitution has pushed farther ever since, David Frum, ... Show more content on

Based on his calculations, an estimated 1,000,000 African Americans would be excluded from this
payment, as it would be unethical to grant imprisoned men and women money from the taxes of rape
and murder victims. Simply put, the reparation programs would be exclusive to those who are slave
descendants and are not rich, middle class or imprisoned which leaves a small sector of African
Americans: the poor, impoverished individuals in mostly urban areas. By placing restrictions and
filters on who receives the payments, people who need the money will actually receive it. The
argument that the providers of the reparations will benefit rather than the beneficiaries is simply not
true, since the poorest of families will be able to improve their standard of living and ultimately better
their children s education and surroundings which will cause success in the long run. In addition, after
the Civil War, the US created a reparations plan that promised former slave families forty acres of
tillable land and a mule from the Union Army. Unfortunately, Andrew Johnson reversed this plan and
returned all the land to plantation owners which left these families stranded and helpless. This led to
decades of black vulnerability which locked them into poverty and

Essay about Edward Witten s Work Led to a Revolution
Witten was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Lorraine (Wollach) Witten and Louis
Witten, a theoretical physicist specializing in gravitation and general relativity.[3]
Witten attended the Park School of Baltimore (class of 68), and received his Bachelor of Arts with a
major in history and minor in linguistics from Brandeis University in 1971. He published articles in
The New Republic and The Nation. In 1968, Witten published an article in The Nation arguing that the
New Left had no strategy.[4] He worked briefly for George McGovern s presidential campaign.
McGovern lost the 1972 election in a landslide to Richard Nixon.

In the late 1980s, Witten coined the term topological quantum field theory for a certain type of
physical theory in which the expectation values of observable quantities encode information about the
topology of spacetime.[5] In particular, Witten realized that a physical theory now called Chern
Simons theory could provide a framework for understanding the mathematical theory of knots and 3
manifolds.[6] Although Witten s work was based on the mathematically ill defined notion of a
Feynman path integral and was therefore not mathematically rigorous, mathematicians were able to
systematically develop Witten s ideas, leading to the theory of Reshetikhin Turaev invariants.[7]
Another result for which Witten was awarded the Fields Medal was his (nonrigorous) proof in 1981 of
the positive energy theorem in general relativity.[8] This theorem asserts that (under appropriate
assumptions) the total energy of a gravitating system is always positive and can be zero only if the
geometry of spacetime is that of flat Minkowski space. It establishes Minkowski space as a stable
ground state of the gravitational field. While the original proof of this result due to Richard Schoen
and Shing Tung Yau used variational methods,[9][10] Witten s proof used ideas from supergravity
theory to simplify the argument.

St. Louis, Missouri. She was a writer and civil rights activist best known for her 1969 memoir, I Know
Why the Caged Bird Sings. As a young child Angelou witnessed her parents divorce and she and her
brother were sent to live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. While in Arkansas, she
constantly experienced racism and discrimination, and she was able to translate the emotions that she
felt, into her works. Toni Morrison was on February 14, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio. She was a novelist and
a Professor at Princeton University. Her novels kept her audience s attention because of the vivid
dialogue and epic themes used in her stories. Some of her best known novels were Beloved, The
Bluest Eye, and Song of Solomon. In Morrison s and Angelou s novels, they showed similar styles of
writing, through the use of racism, symbols, and epic themes. Maya Angelou was a phenomenal
writer. In her novel, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings , she wrote about the situations that she
experienced from childhood to adulthood. In the novel, she expressed that she experienced racism at a
very young age. Maya talks about the fact that she had to live on one side of town with the black
people, and white people lived on the other side. As a child she had the idea that straight, blonde hair
was beautiful. In the story she says, Wouldn t they be surprised when one day I woke out of my black
ugly dream,

  • 2. New York City Draft Riots On July 13, 1863, the streets of New York City were ablaze. People ran rampant without a care of the well being of anyone else; mutilating bodies, robbing people, and setting buildings on fire. Children were rushed to safety from the bloodthirsty mobs. These were the New York City Draft Riots of 1863, and colored and rich people weren t safe from the protests that the poor and working class had against the highly controversial draft (Bernstein 34). These violent riots had to be stopped, and someone had to come up with an idea to put the crowds at rest. The New York City Draft Riots of 1863 were stopped when the Union government decided to compromise by stopping the draft and not receiving more troops for the civil war. The Draft Riots began on July 13 of 1863 and lasted for five days (Amato and Meisel). The civil war was taking place and the Battle of Gettysburg was ending. Hopes for a Union victory were skyrocketing like never before and the brave soldiers were heading home. Slavery also seemed to only be a temporary thing, with so many African Americans arriving free into the north (Lighthizer). Many things had gone wrong in the past, including battles and race issues. The future seemed so bright for nearly everyone in New York City, and something seemed so clear; things were finally getting better for so many people. Unfortunately for the happy people, it wouldn t remain that way for long. Racism, fuelled by anger, during that time was at a towering peak. African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Feminist Revolution Susan B Anthony The word feminist can be though of in many ways. Some people can hear the word in a positive way, and think of it as a woman standing up for her gender s rights. If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation. This statement was the motto and main motive of what was to come in the future. Susan B. Anthony s influences came from her family, friends, and acquaintances. Starting with her family, are her parents. Her father, a Quaker, courted Susan s mother, a Baptist (Weisberg 23). The unorthodox match was opposed, but the two married anyway. The Ignominious Tribe, the worlds second oldest profession, these are both describing the same thing, the mysterious profession that lives in the shadows of history. Espionage. Governments fear it, yet it is always a major factor during wars, and it isn t very well known by the general public. Men and women throughout history who have fought in secret positions during wars, often placed into positions of great danger. Why were they willing to risk so much for their countries? Profit? In the following pages, the reader will learn a brief history of the evolution of cryptography, and how it was important in such major recent struggles as WWII. • 13. Solution For The Problem Solution Problem Solution The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine. The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because 30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do! Conclusion Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having to ... • 15. Barack Obama s The Audacity Of Hope On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama arguably made his greatest speech, The Audacity of Hope , at the Democratic National Convention Keynote Address. All the way through his piece, Obama focuses on connecting himself to Americans. However, Barack Obama was a US Senate candidate for the United States president, and in making this speech, uses this connection to raise his reputation rather than to simply amuse the audience. Throughout The Audacity of Hope speech, Barack Obama implements three main devices to raise his political popularity: abstract language, repetition, and structure. Part of The Audacity of Hope is Obama s use of abstract words, which help to associate the piece to everyone s individual view of these words. In other words, since abstract words have no explicit definitions, the words fit to the person who defines them. Obama states, John Kerry believes in the Constitutional freedoms that have made our country the envy of the world, and he will never sacrifice our basic liberties, nor use faith as a wedge to divide us. In this sentence, Obama uses the words freedoms , sacrifice , liberties , and faith to describe John Kerry and what he does. By using these abstract words, Obama creates a perfect American image, one that stands for everything America stands for. This is powerful. By comparing a person to a highly symbolic figure, such as the United States, Obama invokes high emotions among the audience, or the pathos of the piece, which he then puts onto ... He starts off each sentence without the use of doublespeak and ends with how doublespeak perceives the situation to be rather than the reality. Lutz states, The Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s fees. (Lutz line 1 3) He shows how taxes was changed to something different in order to mislead the public. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its real or purported meaning. (Lutz line10 11) This shows that it is at a whole other level that has to be deciphered to be able to understand and also suggests that can be difficult to capture. Lutz also uses repetition to give the definition. He states, It is the incongruity between the word and referent, between seem and be, between the essential function of language... There are various types of economies in the the world, of the various types they can be narrowed down to the two most common which are capitalist and socialist economies. In the state lead economy, the government owns the means of production, but the organization is ran by capitalists methods. Capitalism promotes competition in the economy which has positive outcomes. Competition generates higher quality products and more effective techniques in businesses. Competition is the only reason the government plays a role in capitalism, and that role is protection from fraud and force. The only purpose of government would be to protect its citizens from force or fraud (Reisman, George). Socialism is considered the weak; less effective form of economy. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail (Mark Perry, 1995). It is the type of organization that involves the government owning and controlling the major industries and prosperous companies in the country. The fact that socialism disregards private property rights in establishing incentives for economic development and growth is another reason why socialism fails. Socialism robs citizens of their human rights to private property, but it does grant the right to an education, to work, and free health care and transportation. Unlike capitalism that is based on supply and demand, in a socialist economy, the government regulates the quantity of products produced and distributed. The government also ... • 24. Differences Between Troy And The Iliad As the last scene of movie Troy fades, we see the words inspired by Homer s The Iliad . There is no doubt that the Iliad is one of the greatest poems of all time and, therefore, it has inspired multiple works of art over almost three thousand years of its existence. One of these works is the film Troy, which attempts to make an adaptation that reflects the Greek culture and appeals to the modern audience at the same time. In this essay Troy will be compared with the Iliad through examination of time spans, intended audiences, portrayals of Helen, Achilles and Hector, main themes of both sources and conveyed messages. One significant difference between the Iliad and Troy is the timespan. The Iliad is not a story of a Trojan war, but a story of a hero s wrath. The time span it covers is only a few weeks in the tenth year of the siege of Troy. Homer chooses to focus on events that occurred during a quarrel of King Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, and Achilles, the most powerful warrior of the Achaean army. Homer doesn t go into detail about other events and battles, as the story of the Trojan War was well known to the Greek society because it has been told and retold by bards for numerous times and the general plot was still fresh in the minds of the Greeks. For his poem to stand out, Homer had to be original, so he didn t tell his audience about the war as a whole, but rather spotlighted the wrath of an individual hero, Achilles. Troy, ... In society, starting with the earlier generation there was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status. They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of their backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar whether they want to admit it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes and treated differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it or not, they ll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. We are introduced to their problems both from a description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on. Their son Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall family struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet this explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange ideas, but that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two seemed to feed off one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a discrepancy between what Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and expectations her family was imposing on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of view, but too caught up in their own emotional reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don wasn t present just put more highlight on Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the problem, not taking responsibility for it themselves. This was felt by ... Contemporary publishers are not making that distinction any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak s Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture book for both children and adults, and J. K. In fact, the team surrounding the candidate is a much larger, if not the most import variable in determining his fate in the election. Popkin also speaks of the candidate himself as well as his team saying, Anyone audacious enough to run must also be agile and resilient, and it is that candidate s assembled team that determines the level of the candidate s agility and resilience. This occurs when one species has a significant effect on the survival or reproductive success of another species and vice versa, leading to the gradual evolution of both species. It is important to study this topic, as it is possible that the evolution of a majority of the world s life forms was affected by the coevolution occurring between plants and insects (Smith et al., 2009). Coevolution in this scenario occurs by selection for those organisms from both taxa which possess trait which allow them to take the best advantage of this mutualism relative to their conspecifics. An example of this relationship is the plant pollinator interaction between yucca plants and yucca moths. While the relationship between yucca plants (Family Agavaceae) and yucca moths (Genus Tegeticula and Parategeticula) can be defined as mutualistic, it is more than an ordinary mutualism (Sheppard and Oliver, 2002). In a generic mutualistic relationship, both organisms gain fitness benefits from the interaction, but are not dependent on each other for survival. In the yucca plant yucca moth interaction, the yucca moth provides essential cross pollination services to the yucca plant, and the yucca plant provides a predator free location for the yucca moth to lay its eggs, as well as providing nutrition for the larvae in the form of some of its seeds (Moisett, n.d.). Since the interaction between these two organisms is necessary for the survival of their species, it is called an obligate mutualism (Lunau, 2004). The relationship between the yucca plants and yucca moths serves as the theme for the remainder of this paper. The start of Christianizing Rome began with two of Jesus disciples, Peter and James, as well as the apostle Paul in the Roman province of Antioch during the first century ( New Women of Color Study Bible 1742). From this, Christianity spread all over the province, by the time it got to Rome it was not widely practiced. It wasn t until the reign of Constantine that Christianity took its place as the empires forefront religion. Since Rome was known for its worship and idolizing of gods, how and for what reasons did Constantine transform his subjects beliefs? According to authors, Ramsay MacMullen, John Curran, and A.H.M. Jones, a number of tactics were used to sway the masses minds. Use of coercion, money, and campaigns aided Constantine s questionable Christian cleanse . During the reign of Constantine, cash was quite a factor in conversion of the people. As described by Ramsay MacMullen, There [was] also an element familiar only from the time of Constantine s reign forward: imperial cash gifts, some of them quite gigantic (MacMullen 88). These particular cash gifts were used mainly for church growth. In order to create a steady base of believers Constantine permitted the enticement of followers by way of church officials. Just as ... • 44. African American Human Rights Violations Human history has been plagued by violations of human rights on the premise of superiority and entitlement. From the earliest cases 10,000 years ago between Kenyan hunter gatherer tribes in Nataruk resulting in mass murder to more recent cases involving the Rohingya and Myanmar nationalists edging towards genocide, the continuing difficulty to resolve human rights violations highlights its relevance and importance. Despite the atrocities that have filled human history records, human rights have seen progress in even the most early of civilizations dating back to 539 BC when Cyrus, King of Persia, outlawed slavery and vouchsafed freedom of religion. Granted that human rights progress and restitution has pushed farther ever since, David Frum, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on his calculations, an estimated 1,000,000 African Americans would be excluded from this payment, as it would be unethical to grant imprisoned men and women money from the taxes of rape and murder victims. Simply put, the reparation programs would be exclusive to those who are slave descendants and are not rich, middle class or imprisoned which leaves a small sector of African Americans: the poor, impoverished individuals in mostly urban areas. By placing restrictions and filters on who receives the payments, people who need the money will actually receive it. The argument that the providers of the reparations will benefit rather than the beneficiaries is simply not true, since the poorest of families will be able to improve their standard of living and ultimately better their children s education and surroundings which will cause success in the long run. In addition, after the Civil War, the US created a reparations plan that promised former slave families forty acres of tillable land and a mule from the Union Army. Unfortunately, Andrew Johnson reversed this plan and returned all the land to plantation owners which left these families stranded and helpless. This led to decades of black vulnerability which locked them into poverty and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Essay about Edward Witten s Work Led to a Revolution Witten was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Lorraine (Wollach) Witten and Louis Witten, a theoretical physicist specializing in gravitation and general relativity.[3] Witten attended the Park School of Baltimore (class of 68), and received his Bachelor of Arts with a major in history and minor in linguistics from Brandeis University in 1971. He published articles in The New Republic and The Nation. In 1968, Witten published an article in The Nation arguing that the New Left had no strategy.[4] He worked briefly for George McGovern s presidential campaign. McGovern lost the 1972 election in a landslide to Richard Nixon. Witten attended the University of Wisconsin Madison for one semester as an economics graduate student before ... In the late 1980s, Witten coined the term topological quantum field theory for a certain type of physical theory in which the expectation values of observable quantities encode information about the topology of spacetime.[5] In particular, Witten realized that a physical theory now called Chern Simons theory could provide a framework for understanding the mathematical theory of knots and 3 manifolds.[6] Although Witten s work was based on the mathematically ill defined notion of a Feynman path integral and was therefore not mathematically rigorous, mathematicians were able to systematically develop Witten s ideas, leading to the theory of Reshetikhin Turaev invariants.[7] Another result for which Witten was awarded the Fields Medal was his (nonrigorous) proof in 1981 of the positive energy theorem in general relativity.[8] This theorem asserts that (under appropriate assumptions) the total energy of a gravitating system is always positive and can be zero only if the geometry of spacetime is that of flat Minkowski space. It establishes Minkowski space as a stable ground state of the gravitational field. While the original proof of this result due to Richard Schoen and Shing Tung Yau used variational methods,[9][10] Witten s proof used ideas from supergravity theory to simplify the argument. A third area mentioned in Atiyah s address is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
