New vs Old Yankees Stadium
The House that Ruth Built has seen many history making moments in its 85 years in the Bronx:
twenty six World Series titles, four Major League Baseball All Star games, two papal visits by John
Paul II and Benedict XVI. Now that the Bronx Bombers have ended their 2008 season 8 games out of
first place, finishing third behind the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays, the old Yankee
Stadium will shut its doors (M.L.B. Advanced Media, 2008 Regular Season Standings ). The start of
next season will bring extra attention to the Yankees due to the opening of their brand new stadium,
located across the street. Their new stadium is just one of many recent parks that have been built.
These new stadiums change the classic pastime of watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Yankees plan on opening a Metro North train stop right at the stadium so that fans from
neighboring states can easily arrive and depart the game without dealing with the subway or the street
traffic, which takes away from the hustle and bustle of the pregame street activities. This includes
souvenir shops, food vendors etc. And finally, the most un baseball related aspect of the new stadium
on the list is the fact that Yankee Stadium will be open year round with clubs, restaurants, banquet
rooms, conference rooms and business centers, and will host corporate outings, business meetings, bat
mitzvahs, seminars and weddings (M.L.B. Advanced Media, New Yankee Stadium Relocation Guide
). According to Brian Cashman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the New York
Yankees, the team has to be in a position to pursue excellence. He knows the potential of the Yankee
organization, and he feels that the new stadium is the best thing for it. Although many have
complained about the destruction of such a historical landmark, Cashman says that the new stadium is
just as good, if not better than the old one. He states that the move was necessary because of all the
improvements and new stadiums that other teams have made. The opponents all have better batting
cages and health recovery areas and other key advantages at their home fields, so the Yankees
obviously needed to keep up. Cashman feels that the new stadium will bring the community

Visual Analysis Of The Minoan
This piece of art was created sometime between 1500 1450 BCE during the New Palace Period of the
Minoan culture. The Minoans lived on Crete, which is the largest of the Greek islands. Although the
Minoan people lived during the Bronze Age, their works of art encompassed many different styles and
media.
The Minoan octopus flask is a ceramic flask or jug made in Palaikastro, Crete, and stands at 11 inches
high. It appears to be completely spherical with a foot on the bottom to keep it upright and two
handles, one on each side of the neck, going from the rim to the body. While there is solidity in the
vessel itself, there is fluidity in the movement and energy in the lines of the artwork that gives the
viewer the impression that the octopus is

Chickenpox and its Epidemiology
Chickenpox is a viral infection caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) transmitted via the
respiratory route that causes itchy, blisters like rashes usually lasting about 5 10 days. It is highly
contagious transmitted by person to person contact (direct) from respiratory secretions or indirectly
through contact with airborne respiratory droplets, via soiled inanimate objects infected by discharge
from skin lesions, vesicle discharges or nasopharyngeal secretions. The incubation period lasts about
10 21 days and the disease is communicable 1 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contributes to the development of chicken pox in individuals who don t have health insurance or
is an illegal immigrant, they will be less likely to participate in primary prevention and more likely to
delay obtaining medical treatment. Some barriers to health services that contributes to the
development of the disease includes high cost, lack of availability or in the case of vaccine shortage
mostly seen in developing countries and limited language access. These barriers can cause unmet
health needs and inability to receive preventative services. Individual behavior as a determinant of
health plays a major role in health outcomes. Individual behavior consists of diet, physical activity,
hand washing and compliance with vaccine preventable diseases. This factor contributes to the
development of chickenpox when individuals refused be vaccinated and do not have natural immunity
against the disease. Therefore in an epidemic of chickenpox these individuals have a higher risk of
contracting the disease. Biological and genetic factors affects specific populations more than others.
An example of a genetic determinant of health is Sickle Cell Disease which is a condition
characterized by the offspring inheriting the disease because both parents carry the sickle cell gene. In
the case of chickenpox there is no biological or genetic factors that contributes to a person developing
the disease as

Devices In The Oral Tradition In Homer s The Odyssey
Homer The Odyssey
Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, was originally performed as a song. The poem is full of devices and
compositional techniques that were used by the poet and which contributed to the oral tradition of the
poem. Other methods were used by the improvising poet in order to make the task easier as well as to
lyrically improve the story which was being narrated. The Odyssey is made up of 24 books,
representing the 24 letters of the greek alphabet. The poem was originally performed by a bard and the
poem would be performed partly, depending on the request of the audience.
According to Foley John Miles (2007), regardless of the versions which we have today of The Illiad or
The Odyssey, an ancient Greek oral storytelling tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the scene where Odysseus is taking revenge in the suitors is very violent, and the poet
does not spare us any part of it. As he spoke his strong hand reached for a sword that lay nearby a
sword Agelaus had dropped when he was killed. The soothsayer was struck full in the neck. His lips
were still forming words when his lopped head rolled in the dust. (Homer, The Odyssey, Book 22,
lines 348 352, translated by Stanley Lombardo) since the poem was an oral one, the performer had to
make sure that the audience understand fully the scenes being narrated, thus bringing to life those
actions, even though they are detailed and violent.
Therefore, we can clearly say that Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, strictly follows the oral tradition
as we know it and has reached us today in a physical format, as close as possible to the original poem.
The oral technique has not been disrupted in any way. Despite it being in a written form, the devices
and compositional techniques originally used by the poet has been respected and are vividly present
all throughout the poem. However, in no way does the fact that the poem is a transition from an oral
poetry to a written form affected its literary

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Literary Analysis
Author Information: Maya Angelou, both the writer and protagonist of I Know Why the Caged Bird
Sings, spent the majority of her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas in the wake of her parent s divorce at
the age of three. She, along with her older brother, lived with their grandmother (Annie Henderson),
whom they call Momma, at the only black store in the segregated town of Stamps. Annie later became
a big influence in her life and helped her develop self confidence and pride. Growing up, Maya had to
deal with her insecurities over her looks and the rejection and abandonment of her biological parents.
Southern racism is also a concern and appears throughout her life in the form of humiliation and lynch
mobs. From Momma s store, Maya watches the pitiful cotton pickers as they travel to and from work
every day. At the age of eight, Maya s father (Annie s son) unexpectedly shows up to take her and her
brother Bailey to live with Vivian, their mother, in St. Louis, Missouri. Vivian makes a living off of
gambling parlours. One morning Vivian s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the age of ten she takes a job for a white woman who calls her Mary because she cannot be
bothered to learn or say her full real name. In anger, Maya breaks the woman s fine china. At her
grade eight graduation, a white speaker from the prestigious white school informs the black students
that they are expected to become only athletes or servants. When Maya gets a tooth ache, Momma
drags her across town to the only dentist in Stamps (who happens to be white), and he proceeds to
insult her, saying he would rather place his hands in a dogs mouth than in hers. An example of indirect
racism would be when Bailey encounters the body of a dead, rotting black man and witnesses a white
man s satisfaction at seeing the body. Momma soon becomes concerned and fears for her children s
safety. She saves up money to take them to Vivian, who now lives in

Trying To Talk With A Man By Adrienne Rich Essay
Adrienne Rich on the Oppression of Women in 1950s Marriages Adrienne Rich is one of the most
well known female poets in the world. Rich is a female poet who is most recognized for her
progressive writing during the feminist movement (Fox). In the feminist movement, feminists
including Rich, expressed their ideas through their writing on important issues which were not openly
discussed, including women s roles in society, and the treatment and oppression of women, especially
within their marriages. (Napikoski). Rich s work continues to be studied today because of her endless
passion for her subject matter. Rich s use of metaphors and symbolism in the poems From a Survivor ,

Even after Aunt Jennifer is dead, she will continue to be emotionally scarred by the agony she was
tormented with during her marriage as described in line 10, Still ringed with the ordeals she was
mastered by . Ringed symbolizes the marriage that trapped her , the master or in this circumstance her
husband is the ordeals that she suffers (G 3). The constant and unhealthy praising and attending her
husband becomes a part of her and her suffering. According to Harris, Uncle s ring seems the only
artifact effecting a life s course (178). Nothing throughout Aunt Jennifer s life had such a horrendous
impact that would continue to influence her after her death than her tortuous and oppressive marriage.
In like manner, Rich s use of metaphors and similes in Trying to Talk with a Man display how 1950s
marriages severed due to their brutal nature, especially towards women.
Rich uses several metaphors throughout Trying to Talk with a Man to illustrate the cruelty women
faced in their marriages throughout the 1950s. Rich s use of metaphors and similes illustrate the
decline of the marriage, which occurs not only in the poem, but in many marriages of the 1950s
(McArdle 7). The wife of the marriage and the speaker of the poem, describes the cruel treatment she
receives from her husband that is leading to the fallout of their relationship.

What Does The Green Light Symbolize In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald incorporates many different symbols into his novel, The Great Gatsby, to add
meaning and depth to the story. Even the most subdued symbols can hold a very important meaning to
the overall storyline. Three symbols that are subtle, yet important include: the green light, the Valley
of Ashes, and the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg. Each of these symbols hold their own meaning and
significance to the story.
The first time the green light is introduced in the novel is also the first time Nick notices Gatsby. The
green light at the end of the dock represents Gatsby s hopes and dreams of being with Daisy, which
seem to be out of reach. His longing for Daisy is also a longing for the past. When Gatsby desires

The Nazi Regime
The rise of the Nazi regime in Germany in the early part of the 20th century was an impressive, and
nearly unforeseen incident that had long lasting implications on the rest of the Western world. While
the Nazi party was extreme in their ideologies, the circumstances in which they came to power were
dire; Germany had been crippled by a massive depression and was being forced to pay reparations
through the Young Plan which required Germany to pay the Allied forces a series of annual payments
extending until 1988 (Bullock, 160). The German people were left without any leadership in a time of
disparity, but naturally, a strong leader filled this vacuum. Even though the actions of the Nazi party
were extreme and unjustifiable, they needed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

greatest stupidity of my life; I have allied myself with the greatest demagogue in world history (Briggs

and how influential he would be as a leader to the German people. After the Nazi party gained control
of the government, there was no way to make them give up this power. The people were at the mercy
of the fascist government, and Hitler had no intention of returning to democracy. Hitler believed that
[Germany s] constitution only marks out the arena of battle, not the goal... once we possess the
constitutional power, we will mould the state into the shape we hold suitable (Briggs Clavin, 255). If
anyone should shoulder the blame for the rise of this extremist party, it should be the failed League of
Nations; who had put Germany at their mercy by strangling their economy, and Neville Chamberlin
who saw the increasing strength of the German nation under Adolf Hitler, but chose to ignore that

Scotland is a country which receives many tourists every year from all over the world. Especially
Scotland s business tourism sector is on the rise. There was a huge capital investment, approximately

MotelOne, Marriott in Scotland. Additionally, Scotland hosted many events this year e.g. the
Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Homecoming Scotland 2014 or the MTV European

profile among international markets has raised. The Visit Scotland Conference Bid Fund revealed
information that 46 international association conferences have been secured until 2021. Among them
are all types of conferences such as food/drinks trade shows, science/educational conferences or topics
like renewable energies. From this it follows that the year 2014 was only the start for a flourishing
business tourism sector in Scotland. In the first quarter this year there were 90.000 trips made by
international business travelers. Compared to the same period in 2013, there is an increase of about
4%. The number of domestic overnight business tourism trips is 493.000 which is again higher than in

Desertification Essay
It is widely recognized that desertification is a serious peril to dryland and semi dryland environments,
which cover approximately 40% of the global land surface and populate millions of humans. The
global drylands face an innumerable amount of problems that present tough and perplexing research,
management and policy challenges. Desertification is the degradation of grasslands, savannas, and
woodlands to a more desert like condition, with resulting decrease in plant production and the land s
ability to support livestock grazing or other human uses. (United Nations et al. 2006) The focus of this

Several potential solutions to combat against desertification may include initiatives such as a)
education in teaching sustainable practices helping farmers/residents to understand how to best use the
land, b) technology advancements using research and awareness in finding new and improved
methods towards prevention c) policy changes relating to how people can farm and how types of lands
are governed and d) rehabilitation efforts to restore the land that has already been affected. The focus
on global drylands is shifting from an emphasis on negative images of desertification to a more
forward looking perspective concerning human livelihoods, based on interactions between and among
human activities and natural world processes. (Reynolds et al. 2007) The Drylands Development

The Sandman Worlds End
The Sandman: Worlds End, written by Neil Gaiman in 1994, is a comic novel that explores the idea of
dreams. In the beginning of the novel, Gaiman starts the story with a man, Brant Tucker, and his
fellow friend, Charlene Mooney, travelling by car to Chicago in the month of June. A storm suddenly
appears, causing them to crash and get stranded in a mysterious guest house, known as Worlds End

dreams from different worlds and times, portraying a tale with artistic narrative styles. In his novel,

speech style in Sandman: Worlds End provides a chance to illustrate the fantastic and unreal much
more effectively (Castaldo 97). Gaiman adds three different types of carriers to guide the readers to
know when and what the characters are personally saying, thinking, or doing in an image. This creates
for the writing style and the dialog of direct speech to play a major part in the tone. For its word
choice leading to the ideas of misery, misunderstanding, and dreams, Worlds End holds an aggressive,
mysterious, yet hopeful tone to it. It appears that Gaiman desires for the novel to stimulate his readers
to read his piece of literature as a serious and peculiar manner by including his artistic comic dialog,
which adds a great sense of dusky yet expectant

Confidentiality In Military
This project will develop a strategy to help Unit Ministry Teams increase Soldier use of Army
Chaplain services by increasing Soldiers awareness of the absolute confidentiality of Chaplains.
Society generally understands confidentiality as keeping personal information secret or private.
However, this dissertation carries a more doctrinal understanding of the term confidentiality in the
context of privileged military communications.
In general, confidentiality refers to keeping personal information secret or private. However, there are
technical distinctions in the military when it comes to closely held communications, and military
Chaplains come across these in their ministry: privileged communication, confidential

Some of these Chaplains have communications that takes place as part of sacramental confession in
their denominations and endorsing agencies. Sacramental/confessional communications exist in a
religious relationship, where a confessing person communicates with a religious official. Generally,
the relationship and communication involve the confessing person finding solace or forgiveness for
sin. Oftentimes, the confessing person believes that the religious official mediates forgiveness. The
confidentiality of such communications is primarily governed by the clergy s religious group;
however, local and state laws have challenged the privileged nature of this penitent clergy or
sacramental/confessional communication. It should be noted that overlaying the licensing religious
group and state laws is the Army Regulation specifying that the confidentiality of
sacramental/confessional communication is to remain intact and cannot be waived by any authority
including the confessor. On the other hand, in non military chaplain contexts,
sacramental/confessional communication may not be fully protected as some mandatory reporting

Case, for example, having once been a talented console cowboy, is now a useless, washed up has

from him. He had become dependent on the trill of using the technology for his own advantages,
unable to utilize and benefit from it any more, he is now lost, miserable and feels imprisoned in his
own flesh. For Case, who d lived for the bodiless exultation of cyberspace, it was the Fall. In the bars
he d frequented as a cowboy hotshot, the elite stance involved a certain relaxed contempt for the flesh.
The body was meat. Case fell into the prison of his own flesh (Gibson, 1984, p. 3). Case would do
anything to get back the access of using the technology that he has become accustomed and extremely
dependent on, even if it meant giving up his own free will. Gibson foresaw this as a possibility in what
could happen in the future with technology and what is actually happening now. In the real 21st
century world we currently live in, technology has become more than just a tool, it has become a part
of us as we rely on it literally every day. For example, the mobile phone with GPS (Global Positioning

than ever before, through the use GPS coordinates. This little accessory has now become a part of the

Cause And Bad Effects Of Smoking
Smoking
We all know smoking is bad for us. But do you know exactly why? Smoking can lead to cancer and
cancer can lead to death. That can put a big effect on a loved one. For the people that don t smoke,
smoking affects them as well. Smoking is killing society. Smoking is killing people slowly the ones
who quick to light up a cigarette. Second hand smoke affect society more than the person that s
puffing the cigarette.
Smoking has people that don t smoke kick out money for the ones who smoke. It is proven that the
person who inhales the smoke coming out from the cigarette is more affected than the one who
smokes. Second hand smoke can cause you to get sick than you might have to go to the doctor. You
may not have Medicaid and hospital bills can be sky high. When someone smokes a cigarette, most of
the smoke doesn t go into their lungs. It goes into the air, where anyone nearby can breathe it. That s
why some restaurants smoking is prohibited. Do you have kids at home? Smoking around your kids
increases their risk of developing ear infections, asthma, and other breathing complications like
coughs, shortness of breath. Every family member in your household is at risk cause of second hand.
When working on a job even when you not puffing a cigarette your colleagues can still be impacted.

Executive Summary
From our DCF calculations, the value of Torrington as a stand alone entity is $1.181 billion. However,
the maximum purchase price for Torrington should only be $641 million. The optimum debt amount
for this transaction would be $301 million. This amount of debt would result in a total debt to capital
ratio for Torrington of 47%, within the range for a BBB investment grade debt rating. The combined
entities, Torrington Timken, would produce an interest coverage ratio of 3.2, and a debt ratio of 45%,
again within the range for a BBB debt rating. The purchase would likely be a cash transaction.

Reflection Paper For Teachers
During the month of November, I became our school s acting testing coordinator. Our testing
coordinator was in an accident and went out on medical leave. She was suddenly out for an
undetermined amount of time and with a severe concussion was unable to remember what she
completed and what she did not. During her absence, there were two assessments and a survey that
needed to me completed. These assessments included SAT 10, FFT (Teacher Survey) and MAP R.
This was a very demanding experience. The first thing that needed to be completed was the FFT
Teacher Survey. This is important to all teachers on cycle using the Framework for Teaching. The
Survey is a vital component to a teachers overall effectiveness. If left incomplete, the teacher receives
a score of zero for that portion. When I became the acting testing coordinator, only two weeks were
left in the window and no surveys were completed. Within two weeks, I needed to complete 167
surveys for 7 teachers. Unfortunately, the teachers could not assist in this endeavor. I tried to create a
schedule were I was able to conduct all 167 surveys. This was impossible if I was still going to meet
with my intervention students. Therefore, I rounded up a team of individuals that had opportunity and
the willingness to assist. This team consisted of the ESOL teacher and the Guidance Counselor. The
team and I then created a plan that incorporated the surveys into the Guidance Counselor s schedule.

Benefits Of Low Disclosure Of The Hedge Fund Industry
There is a certain air of secrecy surrounding the hedge fund industry that makes investing in these
vehicles a scary endeavor for some. As hedge funds are not regulated to the same extent as mutual
funds, many firms choose to limit the disclosure of their operations and holdings. Because of this lack
of transparency combined with media criticism, many myths and fallacies regarding the industry have
surfaced. Although this lack of transparency may leave investors less informed and more susceptible
to risk when investing in a hedge fund, it also allows for higher returns that cannot be achieved by
more traditional investment vehicles. The benefits of low disclosure may outweigh the costs for
certain investors, but the level of transparency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a diversified portfolio, in which risk is managed well, any losses that are incurred by certain assets
will be offset in part by the gains of other assets. When risk is managed appropriately, hedge funds can
be a robust addition to a portfolio. Hedge fund managers insist on confidentiality in order to allow for
such high returns that their funds deliver, however, some investors are skeptical that they seek
confidentiality of their holdings in order to hide past losers of their portfolio. Through a close
examination of confidential 13F filings, the returns and liquidity of confidential holdings can expose
the justification for withholding proprietary information from the public. The evidence found that
confidential holdings actually outperformed holdings that were disclosed to the public, and that many
of these confidential holdings are illiquid assets that have performed well in the past. This evidence
suggests that managers sought confidentiality in order to generate superior returns, rather than hide
poorly performing positions (Aragon, Hertzel, and Zhen). This protection of proprietary information
prevents competition from freeriding off of the fund s investment strategies as well as protects illiquid
positions from front runners attempting to trade against the fund. While low

Many people nowadays are practicing healthier lifestyles. This has affected the non alcoholic beverage
industry in that many are switching to bottled water and diet colas instead of beer and other alcoholic
beverages. The need for bottled water and other more convenient and healthy products are in
important in the average day to day life. Possible substitutes that continuously put pressure on Coke
include tea, coffee, juices, milk and hot chocolate.
Consumers from the ages of 37 to 55 are also increasingly concerned with nutrition. There is a large
population of the age range known as the baby boomers. Since many are reaching an older age in life
they are becoming more concerned with increasing their longevity. This will continue to affect the non
alcoholic beverage industry by increasing the demand overall and in the healthier beverages.
Increasing awareness among consumers, public health professionals and government agencies of the
potential health problems associated with obesity and inactive lifestyles represents a significant
challenge to the Coca Cola industry. The company has recognized that obesity is a complex public
health problem. Their commitment to consumers begins with the company s broad product line, which

Transference and Counterference
Transference and Countertransference by Lisa Marie Hilz
Introduction
Transference and countertransference are both normal phenomena that may arise during the course of
the therapeutic relationship. Understanding these phenomena in nursing is important because the
primary focus of nursing is the nurse patient relationship (Imura, 1991). This discussion will describe
how these phenomena occur, and how they may manifest in the nurse patient relationship.
Furthermore, this discussion will highlight nursing interventions in these situations, in order to provide
insight into how nurses can maintain and improve the therapeutic focus and environment.

The goal is to guide the patient to independence by teaching them to assume responsibility for their
own behaviors, feelings, and thoughts, and to assign the correct meanings to relationships based on
present circumstances instead of the past. Helping the patient work through the transference is
beneficial in two important ways: the therapeutic value of the relationship may be restored and even
improved, and the patient may also learn to identify this behavior in other relationships, thus
improving interpersonal skills.
Countertransference
Countertransference involves the same principles, except the direction of the transference is reversed.
Countertransference, a normal occurrence as well, involves the nurse s reactions, behaviors, thoughts,
and feelings toward the patient (Wilson amp; Kniesl, 1996). Unresolved conflicts from the nurse s past
may evolve as countertransference. For example, a patient who displays childlike dependency toward
a nurse may evoke a parental attitude from that nurse, depending on the meaning that he or she assigns
to the relationship with the patient, and if past conflicts are significant to the present situation. Nurses
may be completely unaware or only minimally aware of the countertransference as it is occurring.

The Size Of A Plant Versus The Depth
Title:The size of a plant versus the depth
Research Question:Does the size of common garden seeds affect the relation of their ideal burial
depths?
On my experiment I will planted different types of garden seeds ( which are different sizes ) at
different depths, and with this in mind I will determine how the grow of each seed is affected.
Background Information:
We all consider the amount of sun our plants need to grow healthy. We care about the amount of water
we put to our plants. We always have those subjects in mind but we sometimes forget that there are
other factors to help a plant grow at their fullest. For example, the depth can influence the plant s
growth ,but because of the different sizes of seeds it s difficult to determine how deep each seed needs
to be planted.
To further understand the relationship between the size of the seed and its proper planting depth you
would have to fully comprehend the term of seed germination process. In short terms seed
germination is the process in which the seed starts developing into what would be a plant .The process
starts off when the the seed starts adapting to its location, which would allow it to start growing. Later,
if the seed is well adapted its hard outer covering or seed coat will break. When water has been added
to the soil and reaches the seed then the seed observes the water, which is known as imbibition. The
water provides needed proteins to the seed allowing it to further continue its growing process.

Manliness In The Witch Of Blackbird Pond
The Art of Manliness
What does it mean to be a man? Is it some measurement of age or brain faculty? Perhaps, it s simply

for many years, thus it is no surprise that the meaning of the idea is not that simple. Manliness, must

As have discussed above, for Lego to produce quantity x its costs will be Costs Lego. However, for
the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in
the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly

competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the

effective as there is little to no room for profit. Lego can subsequently price anywhere due to its

American Prison System Essay
American Prison Systems
Introduction
In many countries national prisons are operated and supplemented by provinces and state counterparts.
Prisoners are held in prisons and jails throughout the country and globally convicted of various crimes

There are institutions that vary in level of security in both the state and federal prison system.
However, the majority of prisoners are sentenced and housed in state facilities in high security

Overcrowding in the state prison system is a continuing problem and is increasingly uncomfortable.
Capacity levels have risen in both operating and capacity in both state and federal prison systems. This
has caused local and state facilities to make inmates double up in prison cells. In other words, cells
that would normally hold to inmates at a time are now holding more convicts. This causes even more
tension and friction between inmates.
Types of Institutions
There are two types of institutions in the United States, that is private and government ran institutions.
The privately ran institutions are paid for from the states government and commonly a lower cost to

Essay on Using Fear to Control the Masses
Fear is an emotion brought on by danger, evil, or pain. Sometimes the threat is real and sometimes it
can be imagined. A person who is walking through a dark alley in the middle of the night may
experience fear because they do not know whether or not it is safe to continue on. The fear of the
unknown is also expressed in 1984, The Lottery, and Harrison Bergeron. The government in 1984 uses
fear to control the masses. They set strict rules but leave a level of life completely unknown. The Party
uses the people s easygoing, trusting personalities to their advantages. In Shirley Jackson s The

The people however are already scared of the Party and become even more fearful around a
telescreen. If they do anything wrong, there is a chance that the government will come in the night and
take them away to be vaporized. A similar thing occurs in Shirley Jackson s The Lottery. Tessie
Hutchinson, a woman of the small town, is chosen in the lottery. The lottery is an annual event that
occurs to take one person and stone them to death to keep the population to a minimum. Jackson
illustrates Tessi s final scene: Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she
held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her (Jackson 7). Being put in this kind of
position, the government was able to control Tessie because of her fear. At that point, Tessie would be
willing to do anything to save her life but the rules of the government force her to be stoned. Both
Orwell and Jackson used the fear of the unknown as a solid point in their government structures much
like Kurt Vonnegut did. In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery, and Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron,
people are stoned and handicapped to fill the people with fear of the government. Shirley Jackson
created a government in which people were afraid of the final choosing. In the annual lottery a single
person was chosen to be stoned to death by their fellow neighbors. Tessie Hutchinson speaks out near

Analysis of the Allegory of the Cave
Analysis of the Allegory of The Cave Plato s Allegory of the Cave presents a visualization of people
who are slaves that have been chained in front of a fire their whole lives. These people observe the
shadows of different things shown on the cave wall that is in front of them. The shadows are the only
reality the slaves know. This is because they have never seen anything else to compare them to. Plato
argues that there is a critical flaw in how people mistake their limited perceptions as reality, as truth,
and as what they believe to be what is good. The allegory reveals how the flaw affects our education,
our spirituality, and our politics. The flaw that Plato speaks about is how people trust what they see
and think it is real. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato says it is difficult to go back down into the darkness after somebody has seen the light, but they
must. They must educate the slaves about the world above, so the slaves understand that power is not
the greater good. Even though it will be about ten times harder to readjust to the darkness after
descending into the cave again they will see about ten times better, because now they know the
shadows are not real. They will govern with knowledge of good and truth. I believe that the Allegory
of the Cave simply states that we must question reality and we must not trust just what our eyes tell us.
We must know more than just what the eyes see. The slave in the allegory that makes the ascent and
eventually rejects the truth of the shadows comes to know a truer truth. But then they believe what
their eyes show them that is on this world. They have forgotten that they must question reality,
because how are they to know that this reality is realer than that of the caves ? Somebody may wonder
what if we are the shadows in the cave. And who knows. It corresponds to having an imaginary friend
when a person is younger. The imaginary friend is very real to whoever the befriended person is, but

Production And Downsizing Of The Organization
Production and Downsizing There are times when a business is faced with a sudden need increase its
productivity. This can be caused by a boost in popularity of one or more products, or an opening
within the market. The best way to bolster productivity is to assess the current structure of the
organization. The workforce, processes, supply, and goals must all be evaluated. Understanding where
cuts need to be made is often an important factor, as well as knowing if you will be able to
successfully satisfy the demands of the consumers that are awaiting the product. Changing the
structure of the organization into a functional structure would be propitious for the company given the
goals it wishes to achieve. Functional structures are excellent for creating employees with highly
specialized and specific skills, which could certainly be beneficial in a candy company. Having
employees with in depth knowledge of the product can push the company towards further success in
the future. These employees are often considered star employees, which are noted for being fast,
efficient and confident. Specialization leads to operational efficiencies and enhances productivity
levels (Davoren, n.d.). While functional structures have their strengths, the weaknesses are also
important factors to consider. Communication, an undeniably vital aspect of any organization, can

The zero tolerance policies call for students to receive automatic suspensions or expulsions as

cowboys and Indians like a normal young boy. However, due to the zero tolerance act, he was
suspended. I see no fairness. I would understand if he would have purposely hurt someone with his
paper gun, but he was just pretending. Also in another school, a school mascot wasn t allowed to carry
a cardboard sword around. It s not as if he wanted to attack someone with this fake sword; it is just
part of his costume.
Again, I don t think this is at all fair.
If I had it my way, I would tone down the zero tolerance act. It just punishes too harshly for some
things. I think that it needs to distinguish the difference between minor problems, like playing with a
toy gun, and major problems, like having drugs. I completely understand that schools just want to
make the environment violence free, but this just can t be done by punishing light offenders. The
world is a violent place, so until everyone can

The Animal Use Of Animals In The Colosseum
I don t think that animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum for gladiator fights. Some might
believe that animals were used to make the fights more entertaining. But I believe that it was very
unkind to the animals and inhumane. This is misguided because they could have use something else to
entertain themselves like plays or something other than killing thousands of animals and humans.
Many animals went extinct in the colosseum. The animals killed a lot of people at the colosseum.
They(people in the colosseum and the townspeople) would kill a lot of animals. The definition of a
gladiator is a person who was a professional fighter, and fought in front of people in the colosseum in
the Roman Empire. Some things about the colosseum are it was started to be built in 70 A.D and
finished 10 years later. The height of the colosseum was 157ft and the perimeter was 1788 ft. There
were 4 floors and it could hold 50,000 people. The arena was 180 ft wide and 287 ft long. One other
thing about the colosseum is over 1 million animals died there. The first reason that i don t think
animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum is because many animals went extinct in the
colosseum. The first example is elephants, lions, and tigers from Africa and Asia were hunted until
extinct by the townspeople. I m wondering why the townspeople liked to kill and make some extinct?
The second example is that sometimes whole species like European Wild horses, the Great Auk, the
Aurochs,

  • 2. New vs Old Yankees Stadium The House that Ruth Built has seen many history making moments in its 85 years in the Bronx: twenty six World Series titles, four Major League Baseball All Star games, two papal visits by John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Now that the Bronx Bombers have ended their 2008 season 8 games out of first place, finishing third behind the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays, the old Yankee Stadium will shut its doors (M.L.B. Advanced Media, 2008 Regular Season Standings ). The start of next season will bring extra attention to the Yankees due to the opening of their brand new stadium, located across the street. Their new stadium is just one of many recent parks that have been built. These new stadiums change the classic pastime of watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Yankees plan on opening a Metro North train stop right at the stadium so that fans from neighboring states can easily arrive and depart the game without dealing with the subway or the street traffic, which takes away from the hustle and bustle of the pregame street activities. This includes souvenir shops, food vendors etc. And finally, the most un baseball related aspect of the new stadium on the list is the fact that Yankee Stadium will be open year round with clubs, restaurants, banquet rooms, conference rooms and business centers, and will host corporate outings, business meetings, bat mitzvahs, seminars and weddings (M.L.B. Advanced Media, New Yankee Stadium Relocation Guide ). According to Brian Cashman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the New York Yankees, the team has to be in a position to pursue excellence. He knows the potential of the Yankee organization, and he feels that the new stadium is the best thing for it. Although many have complained about the destruction of such a historical landmark, Cashman says that the new stadium is just as good, if not better than the old one. He states that the move was necessary because of all the improvements and new stadiums that other teams have made. The opponents all have better batting cages and health recovery areas and other key advantages at their home fields, so the Yankees obviously needed to keep up. Cashman feels that the new stadium will bring the community ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Minoans lived on Crete, which is the largest of the Greek islands. Although the Minoan people lived during the Bronze Age, their works of art encompassed many different styles and media. The Minoan octopus flask is a ceramic flask or jug made in Palaikastro, Crete, and stands at 11 inches high. It appears to be completely spherical with a foot on the bottom to keep it upright and two handles, one on each side of the neck, going from the rim to the body. Chickenpox and Its Epidemiology Chickenpox and its Epidemiology Grand Canyon University Concepts in Community and Public Health Nursing NRS 427V February 20, 2014 Chickenpox and its Epidemiology Chickenpox is a viral infection caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) transmitted via the respiratory route that causes itchy, blisters like rashes usually lasting about 5 10 days. It is highly contagious transmitted by person to person contact (direct) from respiratory secretions or indirectly through contact with airborne respiratory droplets, via soiled inanimate objects infected by discharge from skin lesions, vesicle discharges or nasopharyngeal secretions. The incubation period lasts about 10 21 days and the disease is communicable 1 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contributes to the development of chicken pox in individuals who don t have health insurance or is an illegal immigrant, they will be less likely to participate in primary prevention and more likely to delay obtaining medical treatment. Some barriers to health services that contributes to the development of the disease includes high cost, lack of availability or in the case of vaccine shortage mostly seen in developing countries and limited language access. These barriers can cause unmet health needs and inability to receive preventative services. Individual behavior as a determinant of health plays a major role in health outcomes. Individual behavior consists of diet, physical activity, hand washing and compliance with vaccine preventable diseases. This factor contributes to the development of chickenpox when individuals refused be vaccinated and do not have natural immunity against the disease. Therefore in an epidemic of chickenpox these individuals have a higher risk of contracting the disease. Biological and genetic factors affects specific populations more than others. An example of a genetic determinant of health is Sickle Cell Disease which is a condition characterized by the offspring inheriting the disease because both parents carry the sickle cell gene. In the case of chickenpox there is no biological or genetic factors that contributes to a person developing the disease as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Devices In The Oral Tradition In Homer s The Odyssey Homer The Odyssey Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, was originally performed as a song. The poem is full of devices and compositional techniques that were used by the poet and which contributed to the oral tradition of the poem. Other methods were used by the improvising poet in order to make the task easier as well as to lyrically improve the story which was being narrated. The Odyssey is made up of 24 books, representing the 24 letters of the greek alphabet. The poem was originally performed by a bard and the poem would be performed partly, depending on the request of the audience. According to Foley John Miles (2007), regardless of the versions which we have today of The Illiad or The Odyssey, an ancient Greek oral storytelling tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the scene where Odysseus is taking revenge in the suitors is very violent, and the poet does not spare us any part of it. As he spoke his strong hand reached for a sword that lay nearby a sword Agelaus had dropped when he was killed. The soothsayer was struck full in the neck. His lips were still forming words when his lopped head rolled in the dust. (Homer, The Odyssey, Book 22, lines 348 352, translated by Stanley Lombardo) since the poem was an oral one, the performer had to make sure that the audience understand fully the scenes being narrated, thus bringing to life those actions, even though they are detailed and violent. Therefore, we can clearly say that Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, strictly follows the oral tradition as we know it and has reached us today in a physical format, as close as possible to the original poem. The oral technique has not been disrupted in any way. Despite it being in a written form, the devices and compositional techniques originally used by the poet has been respected and are vividly present all throughout the poem. However, in no way does the fact that the poem is a transition from an oral poetry to a written form affected its literary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Literary Analysis Author Information: Maya Angelou, both the writer and protagonist of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, spent the majority of her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas in the wake of her parent s divorce at the age of three. She, along with her older brother, lived with their grandmother (Annie Henderson), whom they call Momma, at the only black store in the segregated town of Stamps. Annie later became a big influence in her life and helped her develop self confidence and pride. Growing up, Maya had to deal with her insecurities over her looks and the rejection and abandonment of her biological parents. Southern racism is also a concern and appears throughout her life in the form of humiliation and lynch mobs. From Momma s store, Maya watches the pitiful cotton pickers as they travel to and from work every day. At the age of eight, Maya s father (Annie s son) unexpectedly shows up to take her and her brother Bailey to live with Vivian, their mother, in St. Louis, Missouri. Vivian makes a living off of gambling parlours. One morning Vivian s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At her grade eight graduation, a white speaker from the prestigious white school informs the black students that they are expected to become only athletes or servants. When Maya gets a tooth ache, Momma drags her across town to the only dentist in Stamps (who happens to be white), and he proceeds to insult her, saying he would rather place his hands in a dogs mouth than in hers. The constant and unhealthy praising and attending her husband becomes a part of her and her suffering. According to Harris, Uncle s ring seems the only artifact effecting a life s course (178). Nothing throughout Aunt Jennifer s life had such a horrendous impact that would continue to influence her after her death than her tortuous and oppressive marriage. In like manner, Rich s use of metaphors and similes in Trying to Talk with a Man display how 1950s marriages severed due to their brutal nature, especially towards women. Rich uses several metaphors throughout Trying to Talk with a Man to illustrate the cruelty women faced in their marriages throughout the 1950s. Rich s use of metaphors and similes illustrate the decline of the marriage, which occurs not only in the poem, but in many marriages of the 1950s (McArdle 7). The wife of the marriage and the speaker of the poem, describes the cruel treatment she receives from her husband that is leading to the fallout of their relationship. ... Scott Fitzgerald incorporates many different symbols into his novel, The Great Gatsby, to add meaning and depth to the story. Three symbols that are subtle, yet important include: the green light, the Valley of Ashes, and the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg. • 28. The Size Of A Plant Versus The Depth Title:The size of a plant versus the depth Research Question:Does the size of common garden seeds affect the relation of their ideal burial depths? On my experiment I will planted different types of garden seeds ( which are different sizes ) at different depths, and with this in mind I will determine how the grow of each seed is affected. Background Information: We all consider the amount of sun our plants need to grow healthy. We care about the amount of water we put to our plants. We always have those subjects in mind but we sometimes forget that there are other factors to help a plant grow at their fullest. For example, the depth can influence the plant s growth ,but because of the different sizes of seeds it s difficult to determine how deep each seed needs to be planted. To further understand the relationship between the size of the seed and its proper planting depth you would have to fully comprehend the term of seed germination process. In short terms seed germination is the process in which the seed starts developing into what would be a plant .The process starts off when the the seed starts adapting to its location, which would allow it to start growing. Later, if the seed is well adapted its hard outer covering or seed coat will break. When water has been added to the soil and reaches the seed then the seed observes the water, which is known as imbibition. The water provides needed proteins to the seed allowing it to further continue its growing process. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perhaps, it s simply being a male and having a fully developed body. The definition of manhood has been greatly debated for many years, thus it is no surprise that the meaning of the idea is not that simple. Manliness, must then be defined as a particular character trait or code of morals that a boy must adhere to, truly qualifying and graduating to the status of Man. This can be the case for Lego due to to its long term factory moulds, its specialisation in producing building brick and its unique history and brand concept. For a competitor to enter the market it would have a high Economies of Scale. To exemplify this if Lego wanted to produce x units it would cost $y. If a competitor wanted to produce the same amount of units (x) its cost would be $Ky with K being the constant. It would prove to be more costly for the competitor. Fig 1.5 In the diagram above (Fig1.5) it shows the average costs to the output of Lego and a new competitor. As have discussed above, for Lego to produce quantity x its costs will be Costs Lego. However, for the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly powerhouse due to the negativity in the cost benefit analysis of the higher starting costs. For a competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the long time it will take to reach Lego s position, thus increasing costs whilst decreasing revenue. This is effective as there is little to no room for profit. Lego can subsequently price anywhere due to its flexibility in obtaining profit, moreover it can and does price above the cost of Lego bricks but below the price a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A person who is walking through a dark alley in the middle of the night may experience fear because they do not know whether or not it is safe to continue on. The fear of the unknown is also expressed in 1984, The Lottery, and Harrison Bergeron. The government in 1984 uses fear to control the masses. They set strict rules but leave a level of life completely unknown. The Party uses the people s easygoing, trusting personalities to their advantages. If they do anything wrong, there is a chance that the government will come in the night and take them away to be vaporized. A similar thing occurs in Shirley Jackson s The Lottery. Tessie Hutchinson, a woman of the small town, is chosen in the lottery. The lottery is an annual event that occurs to take one person and stone them to death to keep the population to a minimum. Jackson illustrates Tessi s final scene: Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her (Jackson 7). Being put in this kind of position, the government was able to control Tessie because of her fear. At that point, Tessie would be willing to do anything to save her life but the rules of the government force her to be stoned. Both Orwell and Jackson used the fear of the unknown as a solid point in their government structures much like Kurt Vonnegut did. In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery, and Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron, people are stoned and handicapped to fill the people with fear of the government. Shirley Jackson created a government in which people were afraid of the final choosing. In the annual lottery a single person was chosen to be stoned to death by their fellow neighbors. • 38. Analysis of the Allegory of the Cave Analysis of the Allegory of The Cave Plato s Allegory of the Cave presents a visualization of people who are slaves that have been chained in front of a fire their whole lives. These people observe the shadows of different things shown on the cave wall that is in front of them. The shadows are the only reality the slaves know. This is because they have never seen anything else to compare them to. Plato argues that there is a critical flaw in how people mistake their limited perceptions as reality, as truth, and as what they believe to be what is good. The allegory reveals how the flaw affects our education, our spirituality, and our politics. The flaw that Plato speaks about is how people trust what they see and think it is real. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plato says it is difficult to go back down into the darkness after somebody has seen the light, but they must. They must educate the slaves about the world above, so the slaves understand that power is not the greater good. Even though it will be about ten times harder to readjust to the darkness after descending into the cave again they will see about ten times better, because now they know the shadows are not real. They will govern with knowledge of good and truth. I believe that the Allegory of the Cave simply states that we must question reality and we must not trust just what our eyes tell us. We must know more than just what the eyes see. The slave in the allegory that makes the ascent and eventually rejects the truth of the shadows comes to know a truer truth. But then they believe what their eyes show them that is on this world. They have forgotten that they must question reality, because how are they to know that this reality is realer than that of the caves ? Somebody may wonder what if we are the shadows in the cave. • 40. Production And Downsizing Of The Organization Production and Downsizing There are times when a business is faced with a sudden need increase its productivity. This can be caused by a boost in popularity of one or more products, or an opening within the market. The best way to bolster productivity is to assess the current structure of the organization. The workforce, processes, supply, and goals must all be evaluated. Understanding where cuts need to be made is often an important factor, as well as knowing if you will be able to successfully satisfy the demands of the consumers that are awaiting the product. Changing the structure of the organization into a functional structure would be propitious for the company given the goals it wishes to achieve. Functional structures are excellent for creating employees with highly specialized and specific skills, which could certainly be beneficial in a candy company. Having employees with in depth knowledge of the product can push the company towards further success in the future. These employees are often considered star employees, which are noted for being fast, efficient and confident. Specialization leads to operational efficiencies and enhances productivity levels (Davoren, n.d.). Some might believe that animals were used to make the fights more entertaining. But I believe that it was very unkind to the animals and inhumane. This is misguided because they could have use something else to entertain themselves like plays or something other than killing thousands of animals and humans. Many animals went extinct in the colosseum. The animals killed a lot of people at the colosseum. They(people in the colosseum and the townspeople) would kill a lot of animals. The definition of a gladiator is a person who was a professional fighter, and fought in front of people in the colosseum in the Roman Empire.
